Pinky Promises (full)
Word count: 1,679 (I warned yall this one would be big)
Little! Reader
Cg! Chase, Cameron
Cw: fighting regression, pet names, involuntary regression
Plot: you and chase are a couple and when you slip while he's over seas, he helps you over the phone.
Tumblr media
You and Robert Chase have been a couple for about a year
A few months ago he had to travel to Australia to assist on a case for his little brother who was ill
On February 14, while in your clinic office, you sighed as you watched how all your friends and medical staff received gift when your cell phone vibrates, showing a message from Chase
"Hey, dear, how are you doing? ♡"
"Dr Chase, I haven't heard from you in a while?" You text back
"I'm sorry about that, I had to go offline for a bit for the case. I've got my phone back now so, so I just wanted to let you know that  I love you and I wish I could be there with you on Valentine's day." Chase's voice came through the phone on a voice note
"I'm on a case right this moment and House is... House. Can I call you in like 15?" You quickly reply
"Sure thing, dear. Take as much time as you need. I'll be waiting." Chase replies just as quickly.
"It's lovely to talk to you again" you text, before closing my phone.
You're not really on a case with House right now but you know that if you don't spend some time pulling yourself together before talking to Chase, you'll crash into littlespace as soon as you hear his voice.
After 15 minutes, you take a deep breath, then tap the call button.
The phone starts ringing and you fidget  with the ring he gave you. If he were here you know he'd pick up immediately that you're starting to slip. You haven't regressed since he left, almost 3 months ago and you're determined to keep it that way.
After a few rings, Chase picks up the phone. "Hello, beautiful. How are things going?"
"Hey baby" you say, fidgeting with your ring like mad but keeping your voice steady. "I miss you"
You hear him chuckle lightly before replying, "I miss you too. I wish I could be there holding you in my arms. It's so cold and lonely over here and I just can't wait to see you again."
"When are you coming home?" You ask suddenly, swallowing the lump in my throat.
"I know Australia's nice but surely now that it's winter down there you're starting to miss the states?" You joke, trying to lighten the mood.
"Soon baby soon...", he pauses for a moment, trying to work out if he should ask. "Is something on your mind, dear? You're being a little off... Is everything going alright with House and the team?"
You hum in agreement, trying to pull it together
"Actually, I have a question for you too." He says after a moments pause.
"What is it?" You ask a little too quick. Also a sign of you slipping.
He pauses for a moment, before hesitantly continuing, "I'm a little worried that... you could have regressed, you know, since I left. Are you sure you're all right?"
You let out a breath of relief. Thank God it's nothing more serious. "Yes baby I haven't regressed."
It's technically not a lie. You haven't regressed since he left. Even though you're absolutely fighting it right now, you haven't slipped in almost 4 months.
"Have you?" You ask gently, knowing that he tends to regress more then you do.
He's relieved to hear that you haven't regressed yet since he left, yet he was afraid you would at any moment. However, your question left him a little nervous. "Actually... I regressed a few times during these last two months... Usually when I was feeling overwhelmed or really stressed."
"Oh baby" you say sympathetically, your own urge to regress gone* "did it help?"
"Uh... yeah, actually it did. It helped me calm down a little and even find a solution to some problems I was having. But.. um... can I ask you for a favor?" He says, a little bit embarrassed.
"Yeah what's up?" You reply. Now that you know that he's alright, you're fighting the urge to just slip.
"I was just wondering... if you could let me know when you start to regress. I know you probably don't like doing that when you do, but I've always found its really helpful when you're not conscious about what you're doing at the moment." He says softly.
You frown at the phone, worried. You stay silent for a few moments trying to find the words. In your rapidly regressing state, it's getting harder and harder to act like an adult.
Chase notices the lack of response and realizes that you were slipping. He also realized that the regression was getting worse for you a while back. "Hey...  I think you're slipping a bit, honey. Can you try to focus on what I'm saying? I'm asking you something important."
You whimper, crashing hard into your regressed state. All it took was some slight concern from him to push you over the edge.
You lean over and turn the camera on, knowing that while regressed, you should always turn to him to help.
The moment Chase realizes you had regressed, his heartbeat starts beating faster and he can't help but worry.
"Hey... Hey sweetheart, it's going to be all right. Can you still hear me? Are you okay? Sweetie? Baby, please answer me..." His tone of voice now more concerned than before.
"I'm sorry" you say quietly. "I was tryin not to slip"
"It's okay, babe. You don't need to apologize. Can you do me a favor and do something for me, please?" He says, breathing a small sigh of relief.
"Can you come home?" You ask quietly, clinging to the last bit of adult reasoning and functioning you have left.
"Baby, I'm trying to make an effort to get back home as soon as possible..." He pauses for a moment before continuing. "Now, the favor, can you show me what's in front of you? I want to make sure you're safe."
You turn the camera around to reveal your desk with a few pens, a case file, a cup of tea, a pair of scissors and a small container of toothpicks. When you turn the camera back onto yourself, you pick up a toothpick so you have something to put in your mouth other then a pen
"I already called cameron" you say before he can ask
Chase relaxes a little, relieved to see your desk was clear and you weren't around anything too dangerous "Good, thank you for following my instructions... Can I ask something more, baby?"
You nod, feeling non-verbal
"Can you stretch your arms alllll the way out?" Chase asks, testing how much movement you've got while regressed while also getting you to stretch, figuring that you haven't moved in a while.
You stretch your arms out and as he's about to speak again, Cameron comes in the door and he can see her in the camera.
Chase smiles at you, knowing that now that Cameron's on the scene, you'll be alright. "Sweetie, I think I'm done. Please take care of yourself, okay? You have Cameron with you. Call me if you need anything."
You hold my hands up expectantly and Cameron picks you up
"I've got her Chase. I thought she might slip soon. I've already got her nursery all set up. You still planning on coming back in a week?" Cameron asks him, bouncing you a little on her hip.
Chase is relieved to know that Cam had everything under control, but he also cant help but feel a little jealous that you were in her arms instead of his. "Uh... actually... I was planning on returning to the states sooner. I'll be back in three days from now."
Cameron let's out a surprised exhale. "You're brother's completely healed already?" She asks, disbelieving. As she talks, you relax into her arms and lay your head on her shoulder.
Chase is surprised with the question but he also can't help but notice you completely relaxed with Cam in her arms. But he pushs away his jealous feeling, knowing that it isn't Cam's fault nor yours that you regressed while talking to Chase and she was there for you now. For the time being.
"Yep pretty much. You wanna guess what it was?" He asked, momentarily switching into doctor mode. When Cameron doesn't respond, he continues. "He has lupus... and diabetes."
"Jeez unlucky kid" Cameron murmers quietly, not wanting to wake you up.
"Anyway, now that the doctor art is over, I can come home whenever" he finishes lamely.
"Dada comin home?" you ask Cameron, having fully sunken into your headspace
"Yes baby, he's coming home soon" Cam replies.
"I swear to God Chase if you've told them the wrong day again, I'll personally fly to down under myself and drag you here by the ear." She whisper threatens him.
Chase chuckles at her threat. "Cam, I promise this time I'm coming home. This whole Australian doctor thing is getting kind of boring anyway. I'll even bring some chocolate for you, deal?"
Cam's smile drops and she glare at him for a solid second
"I mean it Robert. The last time you told them the wrong day they were crying on my shoulder the whole night about how you don't want a little. I love you man but when they're regressed, I love them more"
Chase's expression went blank and he was shocked by Cam's words. He had expected her to be annoyed with him, but not that she would say that she loved you more when you regressed. He remained silent for a moment, not knowing how to respond
"I... I won't make the same mistake again. I swear I will come back as soon as I can."
You sleepily lift your head up long enough to ask "pinky promise?"
Chase smiled slightly when he heard your question and his heart ached that you were completely regressed. He was really starting to miss you and grabbed his suitcase to start packing.
"Pinky promise, sweetie."

A chapter in which catastrophe strikes the orphan camp on Mykonos.
~~~
Autumn on Mykonos. Warm days, heavy-scented with figs and apples. Chill nights, clear and sparkling. The olive harvest has the farmhands working from dawn to dusk, and the fine weather allows the construction work around the estate to keep up a fast pace. In the mornings, I conduct household business: reviewing carpentry and masonry plans for the day; listening to Sostratos, Melitta, and Echekleia make their reports; and signing off on purchases that pour drachmae into purses around Mykonos.
Drachmae buys furnishings for the household, clothing for the staff, and wine for the pantry. Drachmae brings a priestess of Artemis to the villa to bless its new altar, and pays for scrolls I've commissioned from scribes across Hellas. Travelogues written by Herodotos and the histories of Thukidides, treatises on geometry and medicine—even the complete works of Sophokles. My library is beginning to bloom.
Every afternoon, I walk the hillsides above the villa to get to know my lands: its plants and trees, its predators and prey. Over there, the scarred, low-hanging branches of a pine are fringed with shreds of velvet scraped from the antlers of bucks. Dry leaves and acorn caps litter the ground under the oaks, the deer and boars having eaten their fill of mast, while squirrels, mice, and jays pick through the underbrush looking for leftovers. They're preparing for winter, and my house must do the same.
I enjoy these walks—the solitude gives me a chance to think—but on occasion, I'm joined by a ghost who moves as silently as an assassin while wearing the armor of a misthios. Sometimes, I find myself talking to her as if she's real.
This took half an hour at most, including sourcing and formatting the quotes. It's a combination of verses from both Old and New Testaments, and while the background was nothing like what I intended, as a hasty job I think it looks decent. I know there are a lot of things I could improve on, but for now I rather like it.
Today, Elissa reflected as she pulled her blade free from the abomination that lay dead at her feet, was turning out to be a really weird day.
Once upon a time, that would have meant very little. But given that the last few days had seen her stave off an army of the undead, thwart a demon possession (well, almost), and manage not to punch Lady Isolde in the face, all amongst numerous darkspawn attacks… She thought that her barometer for weird had been sufficiently recalibrated. So now when she called something weird, it was significant.
“This is such a weird day,” Alistair said.
She grinned. It had only been a matter of months since they’d first met, yet she felt like she’d known him for years.
And she’d never met anyone who thought so much like she did.
“I would have thought this was par for the course for a templar,” she teased, because, Maker, they could use some levity.
They’d come to the mages, seeking help for Connor and an alliance against the blight. Instead, they’d found that half their army had already been turned into abominations. To protect the other half, they’d had to slaughter their way through said abominations, before the templars just up and killed them all.
“Ex- templar,” Alistair corrected. Given the circumstances, she could well understand his emphasis on the ‘ex’ part. “And no… This is pretty much the worst case scenario for any Circle. Most of the time you just stand around and look intimidating.”
Elissa grinned but when she glanced over to share it with him, she caught sight of Wynne’s ever-so-slightly affronted expression and quickly wiped the smile off of her face.
“All right,” she said. “Let’s keep climbing. The longer we take, the less likely it is we find Irving alive.”
Wynne nodded. “The stairway is this way,” she said, leading them all through a nearby door…
To face the ugliest thing Elissa had ever seen.
“Oh… look,” the thing drawled, and it was definitely a drawl. She’d never heard a voice speak so slowly. It was almost melodic. “Visitors. I’d entertain you, but… Too much effort involved.”
“Good. That will make you easier to kill.”
Because this thing – whatever it was – was most certainly a demon of some kind. And a pretty powerful one, if the body on the floor was anything to go by.
“But why?” it said in that same drawling tone. “Aren’t you tired of all the violence in the world? I know I am.”
Now that it had been mentioned, she found that she was kind of tired of fighting every day. Of spending so much time amidst blood and gore.
“Wouldn’t you like to just lay down and… forget about all this? Leave it all behind?”
The weariness hit her like a bolt of lightning, an ache in her bones so deep and all-consuming that her knees almost buckled. Her eyelids were impossibly heavy, and, before she could even think, she’d closed them for a few seconds.
It was really hard to open them again. She only did so because – through the fog of exhaustion building in her brain – she realised that this was some sort of trick.
“Can’t… keep eyes open,” Alistair said from behind her. When she turned to look it was to see him swaying on his feet, blinking rapidly. “Someone… pinch me.”
“I’ll not listen to your lies, demon!” Leliana said, somehow managing to lift her arms in order to cover her ears. “You have no… power over… me…”
“Resist,” Wynne told them, surprisingly seeming more awake than anyone. “You must resist, else we are all lost.”
She took a step towards them, towards the door. If they could just get out of its influence maybe… maybe if she pinched Alistair and he could pinch her, and they could…
“Why do you fight?” the demon continued. “You deserve a rest. The world will go on without you.”
But it wouldn’t… She and Alistair… They were needed… They had to…
The sun shone through the window, waking her before she was really ready. Groaning, she rolled over, burying herself back under the blankets. Her bed was warm, comforting, and smelled of home.
