happy father’s day and a big fuck you to people who call hohenheim a bad dad for having the courage to want to live happily with his family and save them from an apocalyptic death. i know the cognitive thinking skills in fma fandom are puny but sometimes this phenomenon really takes the cake!
#van hohenheim#fullmetal alchemist#fma#mine:miscellanea#i love ed with my whole heart but people deliberately ignore the fact he had a biased view of hohenheim no matter how valid it was#in context of himself#like Yes his circumstances logically would build up to him hating his dad#but he didn’t know the truth behind hohenheim leaving to begin with#trisha did and would probably have told ed and al when they were older!#there was no predicting she would die and that everything else would happen#so yeah ed ends up rly bitter and it’s understandable but it also heavily skews his view of hohenheim#he projects indignance onto the way hohenheim looks at him when it’s actually sadness#and he projects negligence onto hohenheim bc it’s what his circumstances have lead him to believe of his situation#even tho it’s no true#like i’m not saying you shouldn’t sympathize with ed he’s a child after all#but you can sympathize with hohenheim too lmao?#it’s baffling people call what he did child neglect when he literally left Because he wanted to save his wife and children#there was no way he could predict what happened to his family and it’s weird that people act like he could#not to mention people blatantly ignore communication issues in the time period it’s set lmao? 😭#ed and al and winry didn’t have phones in their houses and there was no way to send letters to hohenheim if he was always moving#not to mention he didn’t want father to find His family so why would he send them letters either 😭#like there’s just so much willful obtuseness about the whole thing
