Gotham : Season 1 Episode 3

Earlier than I thought, here I am watching the third episode of the show.

Honestly, I can't wait to see what happens with Oswald because dude kidnapped a guy to ask for ransom... that he did not get. 🤣😭 I'm still not over the mother not believing it AT ALL.

My silly little crush wants to see Alfred so much! 🙄 I'm also all for having Brucey in his emo phase as I like to call it. I know that's not it, but just the 10 seconds frame of Bruce listening to metal-ish singers while doodling on a piece of paper was 🤌.

Selina is going to save her ass, but that sucks for the other kids though! She is one of the main characters, of course, but the other kids got their ass sent upstate! Don't you forget about that. 🥲

Anyway, here we go.

"There's a war coming..." Aaaaahhhhh! Honestly, starting the episode with Oswald's voice as a 'previously in Gotham' sort of thing, warms my heart. 😌

Gotham's streets... A bus... Oswald Cobblepot in a freaking pullover! Man is gonna be wearing a suit most of the time in the future. Let's enjoy these precious moments of him in casual clothing. 😌 The SMUDGE BLACK MAKEUP!! I know the man's got dark undereyes from exhaustion, but still.

Dude sees : Kids stealing a wallet from someone's back pocket. A cop taking money from an old asian guy. A man stealing a woman's bag. Prostitutes proposing their services to a person in a car... And all that Oswald is thinking is "home, sweet home". 🤣🤣😭😭

Okay, the story starting with a rich guy (Ronald Danzer) who did some shit. He's out on bail and plans on paying for his freedom and sneaking out to escape any problems. Like dude! That is sadly a great representation of how it works in real life too... 🙃

Balloons! And did you see that pig mask!? Foreshadowing I guess!? 😏

Oh MY! Cuffed to a balloon and being pulled up in the air!? That's so cool & terrifying at the same time. 😱

For once, agreeing with Harvey. The man kinda got "what he deserved". I mean... It's a bit strong... But he probably ruined lots of people's lives so...

"Can I have a tuna sandwich please?" Aw, he can be so soft... when he's been so violent ten seconds before. Bro! 🙃 I love the callback to episode 1. The first time he slits the throat of a stranger to steal his sandwich. The second time, he kills a bad guy, takes his money and actually buys the sandwich. 😌 Can someone draw Ozzie eating a tuna sandwich? 🥹 I just love seeing characters do every day activities. 😌

Waynes' manor! 😍 Okay, I might just like little Brucey ☺️ and crush hard on Alfred. 🙄

"En garde." Aaaahhhh! I know it's the actual term for the sport practice, but each time a character says a french word, I just melt! 🫠 I am french, so just hearing my language makes me somehow proud! And boy... I'm wet. 🤣🤣 Kidding, alright. But it's AWESOME!! Plus, that's Alfred who says it. 🙄🥰

And how is the actor so good at manipulating that cane (used as a replacement for the foil)!? I'm so impressed!

By the way, that scene must have been so much fun for Bruce's actor at the time. 😌

Imagine if killing that guy now would prevent a hundred innocent people to be killed. Killing is not something right to do, but in that context, you kill one to save the others, you know? What I mean is... It's a tough subject, but if killing one person saves a lot of others... And I mean one actual bad person against kind of good people... and I don't really mean "good people", just people who actually did not do terrible things, you know. I don't even know if I would be capable of doing something like that, but the self righteous belief that killing is bad in every context... I don't think it's true. Anyway.

It's when Emily was explaining to the Rydells what'd happened. Also, sorry for my inability to draw curls properly 😅 it's one of my pet peeves or whatever it's called. I love how Suzu's outfit turned out tho. But...now looking back I've realized I've forgotten a few things...like Emily's eyebrows...whoops

Anyways, this was an overall immensely intriguing and well-written episode, but I probably wouldn't have used it for the 1000th. In my personal opinion they should've done something like the five hundredth one, which was pretty cool. I guess One Grand Party was too much for them to make a special episode too🤷‍♀️

Oh, I forgot to mention, @missdrummond had some interesting ideas in her review, go check it out for yourselves, but I think the mind control and secret twin theories are pretty cool. If that's not what happens I might have to add these to my fanfic list

Making peace with it

As of recent I've been training myself to just learn to let stuff go. I've been challenging myself to stop resentment, quick judgements, holding onto grudges, holding onto pain, and just... Caring more about what's in front of me. This isn't any official stance I'm making on the situation. It's me making a peace offering to the community, and myself, saying "I'm over it. Here's to moving on." Art's always helped me just release stress, so it feels a little more personal to draw something in order to help myself relax. Meant to do this for a little while honestly. I feel better. Such a simple little doodle but it's helped.

LAST srb of this one I SWEAR I really like it and it's flopping so hard lmAO but uh also gonna include some concept doodles I had before making the final piece and....gonna talk about my choices in the final pieces bc I CANT HELP MYSELF.so yeah go below the cut for those

..anyway...talkinh time :3 (Lemony got mostly everything RAHH) (I know these really aren't difficult at all to figure out,, I know its pretty shallow, BUT IM HAVING FUN AND YOU!! CANT!! STOP!! ME!!!! ITS MY BLOG!!)

(tw for mentions/brief discussions of dehumanization, manipulation, blood, and death)

Chairs

-Charles is in a simple wooden chair(in the story, this is the chair he sits in by Aster's bed during her hermit arc) while Aster has been provided a larger, cushier chair (this is the blood-drawing chair (iykyk, I guess)). This represents how Charles puts Aster on a pedestal despite causing her so much harm. It's also representative of how Aster has all her basic needs; plenty of food, plenty of water, a comfortable bed; but that all means nothing when she's treated so horribly emotionally and physically.

Food

-It's sort of framed to look like Charles gave Aster the "food" (raw meat), representing how he forced her to participate in experiments. Because while technically, Aster doesn't have to eat, he won't leave her alone til she does. So she does, over and over again, puts herself into further and further harm for him, and for Beatrice.

-ALSO! This represents again how, even if she has her basic needs and good food, she might as well be eating raw meat because of how horrible she feels and how horribly she's treated. Also, the meat is vaguely mutton-shaped. Sheep jesus sacrifice self hate because she's eating it something something.

Clothes

-Aster is bare, representing how she's constantly forced to be vulnerable. Charles has his sleeves rolled down, even though he usually doesn't. Aster really doesn't know that much about Charles; Charles knows every inch of Aster's mind and body, and he likes to think her soul as well.

Flowers

-Aster wears a flower crown made of passion flowers, named after the passion/suffering of Christ. The crown itself is a reference to Jesus' crown of thorns. She wears a beautiful crown despite being otherwise bare and vulnerable; the crown mocks her. It may as well be made of thorns.

Flies

-Flies are drawn to/occupy Aster's body, yet not the ugly, rotting meat before her. This represents how Aster feels she's deader than a pile of meat, or may as well be, or desires to be. The flies mostly occupy her scars and wounds, the original sources of her suffering. There's also a small swarm at her head; representing Charles' own *actual* death via a strike to the head.

Blood

-There is blood on Aster's hand, while Charles is clean. This represents how Aster (at least partially) can feel like she's caused herself to suffer. If she would just leave, if she would just be stronger and say no, etc, then she'd be happier; she feels her suffering is her own fault, hence, the blood is in her hands. Meanwhile, Charles thinks that an apology and suddenly tending to Aster and caring about her well-being means he should be forgiven. He's wiped his hands clean of any blood.

Face

-Charles is smiling, Aster presumably is not. Pretty obvious, but yeah, Charles enjoys Aster being dependent on him, Aster does not. She just doesn't like him in general.

-Aster's face is hidden to dehumanize her even further; partially because Charles dehumanizes her (god isn't human) and partially because Aster dehumanizes herself (whatever she feels she is isn't human)

Bandages

-This isn't symbolism but something I like to think about: Aster also has a bandage around her elbow because her blood was being drawn too often from her wrists.

Feet

Charles' feet don't touch the ground because he's short as fuck. This isn't representative of anything he's just Small and I want to point that out.

this is a redraw (reimagining?) of one of my personal fave drawings, this one I made only four months ago!! wowie!! when I made the original I did consider compositions with Charles in it, but I wanted the piece to be focused on JUST Aster, buuuut I thought including Charles would be fun this time around :] not gonna point out every little detail and what it represents this time, not that it's impossible to figure out lol

A lot of the early doodles of my Sonic stuff, you can tell I’m still trying to figure out the style as well as the characters. Let’s see-

1: This was right around the time I saw the second movie and my eight-year old heart was so excited by the end credit scene that I thought I’d make a proper oc for my favorite boy. But I did also have an old ass oc from the eight-year-old brain that I wanted to bring back and give her more of a story. To be fair, she was just originally Hannah Montana the Hedgehog, because for whatever reason I wanted to be her (then again who at that time didn’t?). At the time of this drawing I hadn’t really begun to flesh her out. Now, Nex is not a fox. He LOOKS like a fox, but is much taller than normal mobians and darker shades on his fur - he is a Maned Wolf. And a total gay disaster! Clara there is a really early design I tried for my brother (it’s his oc) but she has a updated (and much better) look now, so look forward to that!

2: While the details of their meeting are still iffy as I write them, Nex and Shadow meet while Nex is still under Eggman’s “care”. Nex has known about Shadow and the events of the ARK thanks to all the files that Eggman had on them, and while he read every detail he could he couldn’t help but feel bad for those involved. He wonders what kind of person Maria would have been if not for her untimely death, if her disease could have been cured with the aid of Project SHADOW, and the ultimate life form himself! It must have been terrible to have your whole world ripped out from under you like some sort of circus act. Imagine his surprise when Eggman, his self-appointed new father, suddenly brings the very ultimate life form that Nex had spent many obsessive grief-filled nights over to their base! If only he wasn’t so socially inept perhaps he could… befriend him. (Or maybe date him or whateva lmao)

3: Hannah and Sonic are best buds. Hannah herself is a very famous singer, going all around Mobius preforming songs to breath hope and determination into the fearful citizens! She respects Sonic as the saviour of the world, but also knows just how fucking uncomfortable it is to be fawned over every waking minute - so she just treats him like a regular dude and in turn he does the same. Together they just get to be normal kids, doing whatever they feel like at the time, and if Robotnik comes out of nowhere to fuck them up their Speed-Power combo has most botniks out of commission in seconds! The purple one is Anti-Hannah, that’s right baby Anti-Mobius is a thing in my weird fucked up world because goddamn it I love the little fucked up versions (please no one tell Man Blenders (iykyk) about this). She’s Hannah’s opposite (duh) and is all in all a rude ass bitch. More on her later I suppose.

4: Nex is a genius. He was raised (if you can call it that) by Eggman, taken under his wing as a potential prodigy. The only problem, Nex hated Eggman. In his defense, Eggman had wiped out the entire Maned Wolf tribe Nex was apart of just because he was having a bad day - the only reason Nex was spared was because he showed great promise of ingenuity and brilliance at the young age of three - enough it reminded Eggman of himself and decided to spare the Maned Wolf and take him on as a son. Nex however never wanted to be his son, but knew that if he ever acted out, he would kill the young Nex without a second thought. Also Hannah has some real bad family trauma, more on that later as well.

5: Yin is one of two, and since her brother isn’t here I won’t go into to much detail about her just yet. But look forward to it ;-)

6: Hannah and Miley (Anti-Hannah) are both singers in their world, I imagine Hannah is more likely to sing songs like “Nobody’s Perfect” and uplifting shit like that whereas Miley is a total slut and will totally sing shit like “Gimme More” or “Radar”.
