a bunch of random headcanons for simpbur that i thought of !! (all under the cut because there is a lot...)

his birthday is december 11 and his height is 5'4 (this is actually canon but im including it anyways)

he goes by he/they/she (in order of preference). he's genderfluid, but more masc aligned. he is also bisexual and horribly closeted (the closet is as clear as glass)

he is neurodivergent, he also suffers from lots of anxiety. he is very anti-social

he and liliana (the e-girl) were both just not great for each other. it was not just simp being toxic to the e girl, but she was toxic to him as well to a certain extent. she isnt a bad person, and neither was simpbur, they were just a pair that wouldnt work out

part of the reason why simpbur is so insecure abt himself is bc liliana tends to be a judgemental person. she has standards that simp didnt meet, and that made him go into the mindset of changing himself to suit what she liked. however, this failed and they ended up breaking things off instead

his breakup with liliana destroyed simpbur's mental health, especially with him being a very fragile person to begin with. this is where his obsession began due to still having a very strong attachment with what he once had with her, along with having extreme jealousy over the thought of her being successful in life with someone other than him

his favorite vape flavor is bubblegum. he would smoke cigarettes, but he doesn't like the smell, and he just prefers vapes

he is horrible with being responsible with his money. even though he struggles to pay rent and works a minimum wage job, he usually spends his money on games and anime stuff

types with stuff like uwu, owo, :3, :<, XD, ^_^, (*≧з≦), etc.

used to live with his mom, but now he lives in a tiny apartment on his own. it's not very well kept or clean, and he often just throws his junk around everywhere since he never has the energy to clean the place up. the only place he bothers (kinda) decorating is his bedroom

cries over small things easily, like when he gets a paper cut, stubs his toe, when his food order is wrong, etc.

can't handle spicy foods whatsoever

he has a shoe box full of random stuff he stole from liliana, such as pens she used, her clothes, trash, hair, etc.

kicks ass at competitive games, such as first person shooter games. he is a chronically online gamer and he lowkey acts toxic sometimes while gaming

he sometimes just goes "gg :3" in the chat whenever he manages to dominate the game. he doesnt like using vc bc he doesnt really like his voice, so he usually sticks to typing, esp bc hes a pretty fast typer (100+ wpm)

he collects a ton of anime figures. usually leaves things in their packaging. he cringed whenever liliana took them out of the packaging, since she didn't understand why he left them in the box instead of taking them out

he blasts music at full volume, especially while gaming. he listens to a lot of vocaloid, breakcore, krushclub, hyperpop, indie rock, etc.

his diet consists of fast food, take out, ramen, microwaved food, soda, snacks, anything that's unhealthy

he usually hides his figure with thick, oversized clothing

he doesn't usually express his style much outside in public, but he likes experimenting a lot with outfits at home, especially ones that aren't typically masculine

he's secretly a furry and has a fursona. he usually acts as if he thinks furries or cringe, but he would have anon alt accounts where he'd look at furries online and talk about how cute they are

his feelings towards his body changes depending on his mood. although he doesn't completely mind being assigned amab, he does wish he looked more feminine, or at the very least androgynous

at a certain point in his life, he denied his femininity and attempted to retain a super masculine appearance and personality. it didn't make him happy, instead it made him more insecure

coming to terms with being not cishet was extremely difficult. he was in denial that he was bisexual, and even more in denial he wasn't a cisgender man. altho he's grown to slowly be more comfortable with his identity, he's still struggling to accept himself

he switches from being masculine and feminine a lot. other times he simply just does not want to be perceived and would avoid people

he loves the idea of romance and intimacy, but the actual act of doing romantic/intimate things freaks him out. he craves for love, but he's terrified to act on it, especially with his last relationship with liliana failing

he posts rants/vents about his thoughts anonymously online on places like reddit

he grew to be good at stalking, even learning strategies to keep himself hidden or quiet, along with learning how to unlock windows or doors. he thought he was insane for doing it at first, but he's grown more used to it being a routine

his eyes are actually dark brown. i just draw them pink because it's just an artistic choice i like in his design

he has sharp canine teeth

he says "im gonna kms :3" and makes all kinds of self-deprecating jokes very often

he often writes random songs in his diary and sings to himself/plays guitar in his room. it's very comforting for him, as its a form of coping

even tho he dislikes his voice, he's very good at singing (insert the entirety of the e-girl trilogy here)

And even tho all the characters in the group are obviously Main characters, if I had to point at just one and say "thats the Main one" it would probably be her. Since she is the one who went on a quest and just "adopted" these other idiots on the way. So she is kinda the driving force. And the only one who consistently has a brain cell. Personality: Kind-hearted and good-natured, always ready to help those who need it. But if you mess with her or her friends she wont hesitate to pay it back in kind.

Temperament: Most of the time she is very patient (just look at her babysitting a group of chaotic idiots) and tries to solve problems in a diplomatic manner. Very slow to really get angry, but if you do manage to piss her off, she can become quite aggressive and violent.

Hobbies: Between the quest given by her temple, her desire to help people, and her having to babysit the other five idiots, she doesnt really have much time for any hobbies. However she started writing a sort of journal, documenting her adventure, writing down new information especially about demons and such. So in what little free time she has, she works on that. Also often collaborates with Elari and in rare cases Kallista, to make her scribbled notes into something decent.

Morals/Virtues: She is compassionate and empathetic, always trying to help people and do what is right.

Phobias/Fears: Secretly is afraid, that she wont be able to live up to the expectations everyone (including herself) put on her.

Angered by: People being unjust or unecessary cruel. People messing with her friends.

Pet peeves: When people randomly touch her wings without asking permission first.

Bad habits: She has a habit of trying to fix peoples trauma or other mental health issues, even when those people tell her, they dont want her help.

Hoewever her mortal body isn't designed to hold that much godlike power for a long period of time. If she takes too much for too long she starts burning herself up from the inside out. The highest point of this ability lets her turn herself into a small Supernova, which would kill her but also incinerate everything around her in a good radius.

Short overview of backstory:

As mentioned above, she is a descendant of the goddess of light and fire Kaida (it runs on her fathers side), however through the years the divinity was "watered down" so her father and grandparent etc. Had so little of it, they were considered regular human

For whatever reason the divine spark flared up again with her, enough to cause her to be born as an Aasimar with wings (even tho thats quite rare)

Unfortunatley there were no magically gifted healers nearby to save her mother, so she died shortly after giving birth to her

Her father never blamed her for it and made Sure she didnt either, but her mothers family did

Growing up she had no control over her fire abilities and tended to sponaneously Set things on fire

This eventually escalated in a scenario that i will probably write a short story about so we are not getting much into it now

All you need to know is that thats when she got her scars and she and her father had to leave their village afterwards

Her father decided to bring her to a temple of Kaida, hoping they could help her to control her abilities

So from that time on she spent her time training and learning the rituals of the order, and to deepen her connection to Kaida to be able to fly, etc.

It was at this time, that she became friends with Lucina

At the age of 16 she Was sworn into the order as a priestess and made her vow of celibacy (she knew for years she wanted to do this, so she kinda "trained herself" to become aro/ace)

The order also tries to bring light into the World and fight of demonic or shadow creatures and due to her heritage the high priests decided, she Was the Most suited for the task and started an extensive training for that to later send her on the quest

And thats kinda what she is doing, why she is out in the world in these stories. Anything else that happens after is more "recent" and will be put in writing.

<3333!!!! ofc!!! if i make anything more for it ill @ you!!:D!! teehee.. i mostly made the au bc, at the time when i made it, rw and buddy sim were my two big interests, and Not putting buddy in rw felt like a crime ❤️i was thinking.. a lot about their potential in the game.. so im gonna talk about it under the cut, if you wanna see the insides of my sick and twisted mind (spoilers for rw)

i'm guessing buddy - boundless friendship/frustration (bff) as their iterator name - would be made with a purpose relating to friendship. i'm unsure how exactly - 'can friendship solve the great problem?' 'will friendship decrease the ammount of echoes?' 'would it be better for an iterator to be closer with their ancients' and such .. but..

a thing about buddy is that they were never meant to gain access to your computer! they were just supposed to play silly games with you. they already show signs of anxiety Before that, but there's no big glitches. i don't think anekom (the company that made buddy sim (in-universe)) Knew what they were doing when they made buddy, i don't think that they accounted for buddy gaining access to the Internet and such.. buddy was also only taught about 'the good side of friendship', as they say in one of their buddy button dialogues (they say 'so you have nothing to worry about' right after lol). that's kinda ancient-core, i think? only teaching buddy that a good buddy spends time with their friends, play games together, laugh together, etc etc. no concept of boundaries whatsoever, yea ! like "bff wont be taught about the 'bad sides of friendship' so that its a Good Friend and doesnt do Bad Friend things"... idk !!

i was thinking mostly that, during the campaign - still unsure if friendo would be a scav or slugcat? ohh owen could have been an ancient... omg... anyway the campaign would take place Ages after the ancients all ascended, and it'd take place in buddy's/bff's can. friendo would travel through it, guided by bff's overseers, maybe being talked to by bff? but it wouldnt understand ofc because no mark of communication. that would give buddy a one-sided sense of attachment to friendo!! talking to it chatting with it for cycles while friendo doesnt even know that buddy exists.

anyway some stuff would happen (maybe friendo would explore buddys ancient city? i was imagining they could construct friendo some kinds of gamerooms..) and buddy would gain this .. emotional dependance on this creature. nothing/nobody has visited their can/talked to them in so so long friendo is the first thing in so long to be near them. they cannot let this go- can't let friendo go! they'd be alone again. so they trap friendo in their can n stuff :3 and so on ...

u can enjoy this as it is, but just incase anyone’s up for a read, my journey with gender and how it ripped my soul out is under the cut 😋

so, at a kinda young age, i knew that i liked to be feminine, but i knew that i never really wanted to be a girl, if that made sense. id call myself a girl, and sometimes itd feel right, sometimes it wouldnt, but i never payed attention to why. i would wear dresses n be feminine and cutesy stuff but something felt weird whenever a relative said i was such a beautiful girl. i was eight.

then boom, pandemic happened. i personally think the pandemic was a gay awakening for a lot of people, since we all had to stay home and got access to the internet and shit. by then, i figured i was a lesbian, and went with that for a while. girls were pretty, and lil 2020 me wanted to kiss one (i did actually and didnt like it but thsts for another post). i vibed like that for a while; i had a couple of older friends (just by a year nothing much) who were also gay so i thank most of the first things i learned abt lgbt on them.

but, this aijt anout that, this is about gender. so, it was the summer of ‘21, and i was like- ‘hold on a stinkin minute.’ theh had my first ever real gender crisis💗 awh how time flies😽 anygays, i had a meltdown over that, and then came to the conclusion that i was non binary, sicne being a girl was so not me, and i shitting loved how it felt calling myself non binary! adn to add, part of me died a little whenever someone used she/her pronouns for me so i went with they/them; i was so scared of being misgendered back then:(

then, the internet started taking over and i got my grubby lil hands on gaytok (i just watched comps on yt bcus i didnt have tiktok) which was a blessing and a mistake at the same time. watching people like me just be themselves unapologetically was such a moment for me, and i was overjoyed. but unfortunately, some of the not so great caught up.

i saw a shiton of stereotypes abt what each person SHOULD feel, act, dress etc based on their sexuality and gender orientation. i, unfortunately got sucked into the ‘non-binary people have short fluffy hair and hoodies and frogs’ and me, being the dumbass i was, just tagged along with it. at first i thought it was cool, and i still do dont get me wrong! non binary with short fluffy hair who wears hoodies and frogs all day are swagger! my mistake was thinking that all non binary people were like that. and ‘all’ included me.

i thought that if i just had everything that nonbinary people were ‘supposed’ to have, then id finally be happy with my gender and could stop playing this stupid game, and it was like that for a while. 2022 me actually really vibed with that, though! i stocked up on all the oversized hoodies i could scour, stuffed all my hair in a beanie when i cojld and just tried to hide any feminine aspect as fucking much as i could. and it sorta kinda worked! this one time when i was in soccer, this kid asked me what gender i was cause he coukdnt tell and i just💥

that was kinda the end of that tho. 2023 was a school year with ups and downs lmao. i had to leave my kids behind; it was a whole thing. from what i can recall this was rhe year when i started to really get questioning. did i do anything tho? nah. i kept my title as non-binary and moved on, ignoring the confusion that welled up in my gut. by then, it was really hard for me to actually question my gender full-on because it made me super nervous.

some more time later, i finally start sucking it up and taking a good look at what the hell i was feeling. sometimes, i didnt feel like ripping my hair out and chokijg myself slowly whenever someone used she/her pronouns for me, but i still did feel like it sometimes- it confused the hell outta me. i kept thinking on, but made sure i didnt press on it too much because someone finally learned about taking their damn time !! good job me, one thing you can do right that isnt art /sarc

i kept my non binary title for a lil while more as i fugured things out befor my mind said ‘fuck it we ball’ and i just rid the thought entirely. i had a good time existing being unlabled with my gender, but it still felt weird inside. i tried out trans demiboy for a good second, before scrapping that idea as well. i looked into myself a lil more and realized that: hey, being feminine is fun!

all that time from 2020-23 i was deadset and focused on being as far away from being perceived as feminine for a while, from fear of bein misgendered. i had totally missed out how fun doing your hair is, and twirling sround in dresses and just being feminine was. so, i did that. im pretty sure i went back to my non binary title for a bit (this time being smart and taking into account that stereotypes were stupid as fuck) and continued on with being casual wit femininity.

then my head hit the wall- no.. gender? my head hit the gender and on one faithful day it hit me: genderfluid. i might be genderfluid. i thought about it for a while, trying to see how it would feel and oh my holy shit- it fit perfectly. i literally almost cried fr.

no, because i felt like ive been punched in the gut but in a good way- this is it! i finally figured it out!!! i always wanted to have one or the other, and no way i was ginna switch my identity every five seconds; genderfluid was a title that made me feel better. with how i present myself, with how i feel, with how i everything!

and- i shitting loved how free it felt, when i could proudly say im genderfluid. because its literalky me! im fluid with my gender! some days, i dont mind being called a girl- some days i even love it!! but other times its just not for me, and i when i realize that i can just feel like that without feeling like some sort of fraud, i just get all giddy its wonderful>_<

and thats it i guess. my story. huh. im not sure if there should be a moral, but i feel bad if i dont give something to the people, so,, never be afraid to figure out yourself. take your time, and who knows where you’ll end up? who knows, it might be somewhere you might have never thought about.

out of all of the sinners elpis would probably second nature snag clothes from rodya even though they would not fit them (theres like a solid 6 inches of height difference alone) but its honestly really cute to see elpis in the oversized uniform.

elpis will snag food from heathcliff, ishmael, and sinclair, but if they were to be like "hey >:(" [or in sinclair's case, "hey :'("], elpis would go "teehee i was joking :3" and return it. this is especially common at breakfast, and eating a bagel increases the odds of it being stolen.

it is also not uncommon to find elpis returning don's action figures from their room.

elpis steals shit from outis spitefully. they return it when confronted.

[ 🧸 ] — what's the best way to cheer them up ¿

each dynamic is so drastically different [esp. with sinners that we don't have much character development for *coughs* hong lu, meursault *coughs*] but.

for yi sang, elpis will chat about poetry shit. elpis is so into poetry, their whole thing is flower language and symbolism and i really do think yi sang would be into poetry :3 for don, elpis absolutely just hangs around her and lets her talk. theres a running bit w/ me and my roommate about how elpis will go from talking to faust & yi sang, turn around and ask don a question about fixers, and then return to the deep conversation. ryoshu is... elpis is afraid of her tbh (sorry). elpis cant stand the scent of cigarettes all that much, and elpis understands just a bit too much of ryoshu's acronym shit to comfortably hang around her. but if ryoshu was sad, elpis would give her little flowers (typically that are red or have red accents). the flowers are platonic. meursault... can he get sad??? i really dont know enough about him im sorry dude T_T hong lu also strikes me as the type who wouldn't get sad, or at least not let it show. elpis would probably enjoy braiding his hair though. elpis actually caught onto the fact heathcliff was mourning a someone post c6 because they wrote down flowers while going through, and all of them were for someone who was greiving, so... elpis lets heathcliff talk to them if he wants to, even if he’s vague and/or they don’t understand him. they'll give him space when he's sad since he seems like the type who would lash out when sad (and thats not self projecting at all ahahaaaaa...) elpis would 100% weave flowers into ishy's hair if she let them. elpis picks flowers with meaning though they might not explain if they felt it wouldnt help. rodya... rodya is sad. elpis can fucking tell, but rodya won't let elpis, or anyone, help. elpis would give rodya genuine reassurances but im not sure she'd believe them :( sinclair is so sad all the time. they'd be the one to approach him, and offer physical comfort (worlds most platonic cuddle) but if he's not really up for that, they'd just sit near them. theres a running joke of elpis not having a proper seat on the bus, and so they tend to sit on the floor somewhere, so if they felt sinclair needed some company, they'd sit on the floor near the threeseater. elpis cares so much about the manager its insane. like not on an outis bootlicker level but on a "this is a human person. they care about me. reciprocated (pointing at viewer emoji)." if dante were sad and were to actually let that show because god damn it manager you have feelings too, elpis would decorate their pda thingy with tiny flowers. they'd also try and avoid any form of infighting w/ any of the other sinners since that would just stress dante out more. also they’d make a flower crown that wraps around the face of the clock :3 outis... outis and elpis do not get along (as part of a greek mythology joke lmao). however elpis lets the mood of the entire bus effect them [thanks autism /hj] and so outis being genuinely sad would ACTUALLY effect them and they'd begrudgingly be kinder to her. it wouldn't really 'cheer her up' per-say, but it would be one less thing to bother her. bug dad!! elpis is content to give gregor space if thats truly what they think he needs, but they're just as likely to curl up next to him, whichever side he'd prefer them to be on, and simply be in the same space as him. id imagine a lot of his sorrow comes from self loathing re: the bug arm, so someone wanting to be in the same area as him would probably be very helpful.

[ 🪀 ] — how are y'all at parallel play ¿ what's a hobby of yours that both of you like to dabble into ¿

the majority of interactions w/ elpis will be parallel play, so when they truly engage in something w/ a sinner, it's actually really sweet.

despite how much they hate the woman, they do it frequently with outis, if you can count arguing as a hobby... /hj the two of them actually mesh well in combat weirdly enough. gameplay wise, burn and rupture don't make sense, but the glass shards?? thats rupture baby! so they build on each other in combat. i guess that wasnt really the question LMAO. i just think these two deserve to fight each other (elpis loses 100% of the time, they are NOT trained in combat) sorry for rambling about them here.

as for hobbies they share with sinners... afformentioned poetry with yi sang. they will listen to don talk about fixers and her action figures and stuff, which maybe isnt quite a shared hobby, but elpis likes dolls and so sometimes elpis will make little doll clothes that show that they were listening to don ramble. during c5 elpis probably tried to pick up some boating stuff from ishmael but there was A LOT going on in c5 so you cant really blame them for not remembering any of it up. elpis loves pachinko machines & pinball, and while they aren't great at actually managing to gamble, rodya tries to teach them how to get better at it. it does not work, they keep losing.

[ 💭 ] — alright enough wholesomeness , embarrass them NOW . tell a silly fact about them , or maybe even a funny story .

elpis does not trust heathcliff w/ glass vases after he FUCKING THREW IT AT SOMEONE. not even kintsugi would fix that one it was in tiny little pieces and ELPIS had to help clean it up since THEY were the one to bring it onto the bus in the first place. (he gets plastic vases now don't worry)

Faust is an Artificer or a Warlock; making things vs Forbidden Knowledge. As much as I love a good wild magic sorcerer, Elpis would probably be a Cleric considering how much their whole thing is being a support unit.

Faust would be the mastermind. Like, really? Possibly the Coordinator.

Elpis would either be the Distraction or the Partner-In-Crime.

It is Thursday 8th July and I have one day to get myself sorted for this weekend. I dont even wanna say my weight it's so bad 🙃 I definitely have muscle soreness but I feel huge in general so...gonna be a lot of water today and not much food and hopefully I wont feel quite so bad tomorrow.

It's also bugging me that I wont be able to weigh myself on saturday or sunday. I could take my scales with me but 1) the process of transport and finding somewhere even to put them etc could mess them up, and 2) then I'd have to explain why I've brought my scales with me. I already am gonna have to be seen eating normal food at normal times and not doing any exercise so it's not like I can expect any progress. But that's why it's so I infuriating that I weigh so much today. I dont know if itll all go away by tomorrow so I want to at least know if it's going down at all over the weekend. But I'm going to be stuck until Monday.

I have to figure out what to wear. That's one of the big issues. Actually I probably should run some laundry too. Just I dont really have anything that looks nice that I also feel okay in. What I normally do in these situations is wear a onesie and just be the group mascot. I mean if I dont feel cute I might as well wear something cute with novelty value. I know theres a point where I'd be able to wear a onesie over the weekend, hopefully more than once, and I'm guessing they wouldnt mind too much if I did more often... but I dont know for sure and I dont want to be an issue. If I ask they'll say it's fine, because they're nice. But idk if it really is.

So I kinda wanna go to the shops and see if I can find anything to buy. I dont know what though. I dont like going clothes shopping without a precise goal, when I have to have an outfit for something specific. Browsing is great but not if i HAVE to find something to wear in the next 24hrs. I just cant think of anything that wont make me look huge and I'll get self conscious. I always just wear sweats and oversize hoodies and stuff but I think it should be something at least slightly nicer for this.

Ugh idk. I also need to wait for hb to get up and see if he even wants to go to the shops. He might but idk and I really dont have the energy to deal with public transport if he doesnt. I should see what I have here first anyway. Theres one particular skirt I'm thinking of that I might want to wear but I dont even know where it is, I think hb tidied it away somewhere which means itll never be found unless I scour the entire house and garage etc. Which isnt happening in time. I could make something but that'll also take time I dont really have. I'm nervous.

How you met: You’re working part time as a bartender at a place where Semi regularly performs with his band. He probably does 2-3 shows per month, and you come in early before the night starts to set up the bar, so the two of you end up talking because it’s only the two of you in the bar until opening. You’re working on finishing up your college degree and Semi just graduated and started his job as a civil servant. The two of you strike up easy conversation whenever he’s setting up for the night, and by now you know his regular drink and have it ready for him after he and the band finish their set. Eventually, you find out that the two of you actually attended the same university, only that you were in different departments/colleges. 

Your first date: I feel like Semi is the kind of guy who will play things by ear for a while - and figure out if you’re interested or not. He probably just approaches you after his set and sits down at the bar until closing, sipping his favorite drink. He offers to help you clean up and the two of you enjoy companionable silence. Probably acts all chill/suave and is like “hey do you want to go out with me?” once you finish locking up the bar. For your first date, probably a nice dinner befor hand followed by a movie. I feel like Semi is a sucker for classic date ideas. Ooo but he’d probably take you to a drive in movie theatre - probably in a pickup truck. He packs several blankets, pillows + snacks so the two of you can lie in the bed of the truck watching the movie in peace. Lots and lots of cuddling during said movie.

Your first kiss: Ahhh it’s so romantic bc it also happens on your first date. The credits are rolling and people are slowly starting to pack up their stuff but you and Semi just sit there, kind of leaning on each other and enjoying each other’s presence. Slowly the lights + the projector turn off and it’s just the two of you and the stars. Mayhaps there is (coincidentally) a shooting star or meteor shower as you cup his cheek to bring his face closer to yours. I just imagine after the first time your lips touch Semi can’t get enough and pulls you closer, dragging you into his lab where the two of you continue to make out for quite a bit before packing things up and driving back to the city. When he drops you off at your place late at night he pulls you into another long and fierce kiss before you get out of the car. 

Anniversary: I feel like Semi would get you two matching/paired leather jackets - custom made/comissioned with some elaborate embroidery. They wouldn’t be identical, but the designs would be similar or centered around a similar theme - maybe the same flower/object embroidered but with slightly different designs that represent your individual quirks and personalities - your jacket might have symbols related to astrology, have some laces/ties whereas semi’s might have some references to his band + volleyball. I feel like you might get creative and maybe getting some custom jewelry for the two of you - some rings, studs, earrings, etc. For the day of the anniversary itself - the two of you have a lazy day at home - maybe a jam session or karaoke session where Semi plays the guitar + binge watching marvel movies or something. 

How they propose: Probably after you graduate from university. Semi still plays gigs at the bar you used to work at, except now that you have a full time job in a field you’re passionate about, you’re usually part of the audience, nursing some fruity version of a Long Island iced tea. As the band has grown, Semi has also grown as a songwriter (let’s be real he’s secretly a poet) so they’ve been performing more and more songs with Semi’s original lyrics/melodies. Towards the end of the night, when the bar isn’t as crowded, Semi steps up to the mic and dedicates the next song (I think he might call it “glowing eyes in the evening”) and it’s basically a song about your first date + other memories in your relationship. At the end he walks into the audience and kneels down in front of you, and says “Hey, can we get married?” 

What your wedding looks like: Definitely on the smaller side - Semi is a private person and invites a small group of people that he genuinely cares about + really values to the wedding. I feel like both of you have kind of a punk + modern aesthetic, so I feel like your wedding might also reflect that - I’m thinking you’ll probably find a gothic style chapel (architecture wise) to get married in bc it matches your aesthetic, but also the decorations would be super sleek + modern. As part of your reception Semi sings you a song + your first dance is to the recording of the song he sang when he proposed. I think Ushijima and Tendou tag team the best men toast and Semi probably yells at Tendou to stop calling him “semi semi” but also Tendou comes in clutch by providing desserts/chocolate for your wedding. 

Newlywed/domestic hc: You and Semi buy a house together, mainly because you convert one of the larger bedrooms into a creative studio/haven of sorts. It’s soundproof so Semi can jam inside and also has a bunch of production equipment but it’s also sort of cozy - with fairy lights, bean bags and a lot of throw pillows + blankets. Also there’s a lot of cupboards of stuff that you use for your artistic/creative projects. Also I feel like you and Semi would enjoy couple workouts - maybe every weekend on Saturday morning you’ll clear out your living room and lay out some yoga mats + weights and follow a workout video together.

Comparing RWBY and YGO DM: The Handling and Evolution of Themes

Hey! Its been a hot minute since I last posted anything RWBY-related but Im laying in my bed right now and Im sick and bored so I guess we're doing this. Today I will do my best to analyze what I percieve to be the main themes and messages of both of these shows, or more specifically, how theyre handled narratively. Im mostly focusing on that part because, while these series do have similar themes and messaging, they are still a few things in which they are wildly different. And with that, lets start with this essay-post-thing!

1. Theres something we need to adress first

Okay so, before we can really talk about this, theres something I feel the need to clarify here: Neither of these stories was "planned from the beginning".

Now, I dont think a story being planned from the beginning or not nesscessarily makes the story any better or worse by default, however, it is still important to acknowledge because the way the story is planned is going to affect every facet of it. Things are not going to be foreshadowed properly, things are gonna be set up only for nothing to come of it, the story might drastically change directions, characters might act differently, etc, etc.

And, this is bit off-topic but, it's much better to just admit that the story was not planned than trying to pretend that it was. Like, there are a lot of reasons why I tend to be so forgiving towards YGO even though its not very good, but one of them is definitely the fact that, as far as Im aware atleast, the guy who wrote it isnt pretending to have had this big master plan all along and neither is the fandom. With RWBY on the other hand... yeaaaah, its kinda the opposite. From what Ive seen of RWBYs fandom, there seems to be this pretty popular narrative that everything was planned even though it clearly wasnt. Thats pretty bad and honestly lowers my opinion of the writers so much more than if they would just admit to not having a proper plan.

Like, I initially consumed YGO like this: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh (aka Season 0), like, a quarter of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga (I still havent finished it)

In all three of these we have the character of Yami Yuugi, or just Yami. Broadly speaking, he is an ancient egyptian gamer spirit who lives in a magical puzzle that has not been solved for 3000 years until this highschooler named Yuugi Mutou comes along and solves it, thus setting him free and allowing him to possess Yuugi and have access to the vague magical powers of the puzzle.

In Duel Monsters he's perfectly fine most of time, morally speaking. There is an instance of him almost murdering a guy and its a bit unclear what exactly happens to those he mindcrushes but overall he's very much a pretty good guy. In Season 0 most of what he does is set up these games for bad people, where they will go insane no matter what they do. From how I understand this whole Shadow Game, Penalty Game stuff, if you lose a Shadow Game, you get violent and intense hallucinations and you will always cuz yknow, gamer spirit. But if you try to cheat, which most of the bad people do in this show, you get violent and intense hallucinations as a punishment.

Since the two anime are generally considered two different continuities, its perfectly fine that Yamis characterization is wildly different in both of them. But in the manga both of these characterizations appear, basically one after the other with no real arc or consequences, for that matter. Why is that? Simply put, someone thought it was a good idea to try to turn an episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror manga into a more traditional, more plot-driven battle shounen. From what Ive heard, it was apparently largely because of network interference or something, but the point is, it changed directions incredibly drastically with little planning and everyone knows this and I can understand that for the most part.

In RWBY we have the character of Blake Belladonna, who, in the first 3 volumes/seasons atleast, was this aloof, more toned down loner-type character with a pretty strong sense of justice. She's an in-universe marginilized racial minority and she clearly cares about racial injustice. The way its initially framed makes it seem like she had a very hard life and no stable support system, which is what eventually pushed her to join a Civil Rights group/Terrorist organization (good god, the Faunus subplot is so awful, I could write a whole essay about it but Im already de-railing rn so I'll just save that for later).

Then, in volumes 4-5 it turns out her father is actually like, the mayor or chief of this island-place called Menagerie and she grew up in this big mansion with multiple guards/servants. Oh and also, apparently "space is a commodity" on there, so theres that. She still retains large parts of her personality but she's kinda like, worse somehow I think. I cant really describe it in a meaningful way but I hope you get what Im saying anyway. Then in Volume 6 she confronted her emotional abuser Adam (sorry for not mentioning him sooner but yeah, he was like, her abusive boyfriend, which is something that a lot of people disagree with but I wont really say anything about it either way because I dont really feel any specific way) with her friend, Yang, and ended up killing him.

After all that, she pretty much lost the rest of her personality, as well as her arc about all the Faunus stuff. She just kinda became the meek, generically nice, recovering abuse victim. Why? Well, the actual reason is that they didnt plan out shit and are just kinda flying by the seat of their oversized clown-pants and if they and the fandom just admitted it, I would have less of an issue. I still wouldnt be as forgiving towards RWBY as I am towards YGO because the crux of the issue, for me, is just that I dont particulary like RWBY but also like. Do you really expect me to take MKEK seriously as writers after admitting to not have a timeline because iT wOuLd CaUsE pLoThOlEs?

However, since they want us to believe that everything was planned out from the beginning, the explaination would be.... Idk, they deliberately butchered one of their main characters?? Because.. they hate her?? Maybe????

So yeah, that was quite a detour however, I would like you to keep this mind going forward.

2. Themes of the Early Series'

First, what do mean by 'Early Series' for both of these shows respectively? Well, for YGO that would have to be Season 0 or if youre reading the manga, everything pre-Duelist Kingdom. Basically, the part of the series thats a episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror series.

For RWBY that would be the first three Volumes, also known as the Poser-Era. Back then it was just kinda an action series that took place at Anime Warrior Academy (also known as Beacon) with some pretty bare minimum worldbuilding, character-driven plots and developments but now its more of an epic high-fantasy story with more of an emphasis on plot as opposed to just action.

The themes and messages in Early YGO are kinda vague, very confusing to me and if you were to follow any of it literally that would be pretty bad. For now Im just gonna say the main themes are Friendship and Identity and mostly focus on the Identity aspect.

Now, it took me a little while to figure out RWBYs deal but I think the main themes for Volumes 1-3 are also Friendship and Heroism. Once again, I'll mostly focus on Heroism and touch on Friendship more briefly later.

I dont have much more to add to YGOs themes right now, so I'll briefly go over Heroism in RWBY.

In RWBYs setting there are these man-eating monsters called Grimm that have basically infected the planet. In order to deal with that, they have people called huntsmen and huntresses that kill them and protect people. Theyre trained at special academies like Beacon and go on missions there and stuff like that. Our four main characters, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang, are training to become huntresses and one day they go on this mission to clean up a grimm infested city block with one of their teachers. Obviously, that takes a long time so they have to camp out in one of the empty houses. Weiss, Blake and Yang cant sleep because theyve been thinking about this question that their teacher asked them when they were fighting grimm: "Why do you want to become a huntress?"

They have a heart to heart and we find out about their motivations; Weiss wants to bring honour back to her family, Blake want to distance herself from the White Fang (that terrorist organization I mentioned earlier) and as an extension from Adam, Yang wants to have a life of adventure. They also talk about why Ruby wants to be a huntress and it turns out that she judt wants to help people. Unlike the others, she has no motivation besides that. We're meant to listen to that and look at her as a sort-of personification of Heroism: kind, but not naive, strong and most of all, selfless. The others on her team are not portayed as bad for not being like Ruby by any means but we are clearly meant to admire her the most out of all of them.

Okay, now comes the part Ive been looking forward to the most:

3. How did these themes evolve in the Modern Series'?

Alright, before we can really delve into the way they evolved in YGO I'll have to give you a brief summary of the character progression. At the start of DM, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Yami Yuugi is just that; A darker Yuugi. Hes more confident, bolder, his voice is deeper, hes somehow taller, more ruthless, all that good stuff. Notably, he doesnt actually seem more skilled than Yuugi even at the start of this story, but he's still dependent on Yami. Yami on the other hand, has no identity of his own or even hints at one at this point. He's just The Other Yuugi.

Then during the Battle City arc, they find out that Yami was actually a pharao prior to being sealed in the puzzle, he just didnt know because of amnesia, I guess. So now they need to find out his real name and then send him to the afterlife because hes meant to be dead, but not before saving the world from being swallowed by darkness, which is also a thing they have to do now.

Then we finally get to the Memory World arc, where Yami, Yuugi and the rest of the gang astralproject to ancient egypt via puzzle magic. Yami is trying to figure out what the hell is going on and who all these familiar people are, while Yuugi & Co are trying their best to help him. Then some weird shit happens and it turns out that all of that is not just Yamis sealed away memories, but also a giant D&D Shadow Game that will destroy the world if Yami loses. So now theres Pharao!Yami who is still clueless on the metaphorical and literal playing field and Player!Yami, who is kinda controlling himself now? I guess?? Yamis opponent, The Spirit of The Ring, has something similar to that going on where hes both controlling and properly participating in the game. So Player!Yami is now fighting against Player!TSoTR, Pharao!Yami is now fighting against Thief King Bakura (who is like, the human, ancient egyptian version of the Ring Spirit) and Yuugi is now fighting against Yami Bakura (who is like, the human, modern japanese version of the Ring Spirit). Yuugi gets Yamis real name, he and the gang go over to Pharao!Yami and tell him his name, meanwhile Player!Yami is also somehow helping as well and they defeat the Ring Spirit, thus saving the world. Then they travel to modern Egypt, the Ceremonial Duel happens and Yuugi wins, sending Yami to the Afterlife where he can finally rest and that was the series!

I originally wanted to recount the stuff that was going on with the Ring Spirit and his host as well because they parallel eachother, but this summary is already far too long and I think youll get the point without me needing to explain any more.

My point here is, that the story went from being vaguely about Identity, maybe? to being very clearly about Self-Discovery and Learning to Be Independent. I think this is a very good way to evolve the messaging of your story. How does RWBY track on that?

Well, uh... its not great. I will acknowledge that they have tried to introduce new themes and ideas since, even though I wont really be talking about them in this post. But yeah, the whole Heroism thing really regressed.

Like, I didnt explicitly say it when I was explaining grimm earlier, but theyre not going away. The grimm have always been there and people who sign up to become huntsmen and huntresses are effectively signing up for a job that will never truly be done, no matter what they do. Characters like Ruby and even more minor ones like Phyrrah have shown us that that doesnt matter when youre a hero. No life isnt worth saving, no grimm isnt worth killing, no criminal isnt worth arresting. Then, in volume 6 they find out about Salem. Salem is the Big Bad of the show, shes immortal, controls the grimm and is supposed to be very powerful.

What do our heroes do? They give up. Sike! They were just mindcontrolled by monsters or some shit, of course they didnt give up their mission (which is to bring an Important Macguffin to a city called Atlas, sorry I didnt mention it)!

But then they arrive in Atlas (which is llike, a city thats floating over another city called Mantle) and yknow, they do some plot stuff thats not really important right now until the city gets invaded by Salem and this big grimm army she has.

What do our heroes do? Well, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and some side characters are chilling, drinking tea in a mansion and Yang and the B Team were actually trying to do something, but even those efforts seem incredibly minimal.

Oh wait, I also forgot to mention that Ironwood (a fairly minor, vaguely antagonistic character up until now) wanted to lift Atlas even higher to save Atleasian civilians from danger while leaving Mantle vulnerable to Salems invasion.

What would be the most heroic thing to do?

A) Let Ironwood lift Atlas, get as much support as they can down to Mantle and save as many Mantle civilians as they can from the invasion

B) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas but then split up in order to protect both Atlas and Mantle civilians

C) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas and then dont do anything else

Congrats! If you choose C, you think exactly like the writers!

And I just

This is so mindboggling to me, I feel like I shouldnt even have explain how this is bad. And like, it wouldve been so easy to actually make them seem herokc through their actions, to make it seem like they did try but no.

I have never seen a central theme be this botched, how in the world did they do that? Why did they think it was a good idea for Ruby "The Embodiment of Heroism" Rose to sit in a mansion doing nothing, no planning, no organizing just ..... God, how are they this bad? Like, this doesnt even have anything to do with it being planned in any way, this is just straight up incompetence

4. Very briefly touching on friendship

The friendship is awful and its not solely because they all have the same opinions. They barely interact with eachother outside their designated pairs which leads to it all feeling incredibly hollow. Theyre also practically indistingushable from one another now, which is a shame because it wasnt always like that. Like, I dont think the characters were that well-developed in earlier volumes but they were very well-characterized. But now we've gotten to a point where you can literally copy and paste one characters dialogue onto another and literally nothing changes, it really sucks.

5. Some closing words

Damn, this took way longer than I thought it would and now Im pretty exhausted. I have no idea how yall always write these but props to you! I feel like this ended up a bit rambly but overall, Im pretty proud.

Please let me know what you think of the points I brought up! Id also really appreciate some tips on how to get better at these longer posts because I am planning on writing more in the future (not the near future, probably but yknow).

I’ve been spoken about??? :o I am honoured T^T Kayura-chan said I should do headcanons but i got them almost finished when you informed me you wanted scenarios, so, SURPRISE YOU CAN HAVE BOTH. It’s my fault for making assumptions plus scenarios are going slow at the moment, sorry, so I hope these tide you over a little until then :) I used a generator and it came up with gender swap, so I hope that’s okay! Shiki: -He probably wouldnt notice until it’s pointed out. -I feel like he wouldn’t wear make-up either, it’s too much time he could utilise elsewhere. -He would actually be a really cute girl and definitely look younger than his age -He’d wear casual and comfy clothes but with an element of formal: jeans, half sleeved blazer and a cute bowed blouse~ Something in that area -Shiki would be the first one to touch his own chest, strictly out of curiosity. He’d be intrigued that woman walk around with such heavy and inconvenient fat deposits attached to their chests without batting an eyelid. Of course they would, they’ve had them for a long time, they don’t just wake-up with a full sized chest, but he still finds it impressive

Tsubasa: -You would hear him screaming everyones names the second he wakes -He would be bursting with confidence, admiring himself in the mirror frequently -Tsubasa would try ANYTHING: make-up, nails, hair etc. He’d be the most likely to get intimate with a male -He would be the type to wear stuff that would compliment his new figure, I feel he’d have AMAZING legs so he’d go for a fairly short dress that hugged his waist nicely -He wastes no time getting into heals and doing his own make-up, he’s enjoying every second of it. After he’s got himself ready, he’d strut around the dorms and fish for compliments from the others. I’ll give credit where it’s due, he didn’t do the best make-up but it was still pretty decent

Rikka: -It’s not much of a surprise but he’d be the prettiest, “You don’t look that different yet you look stunning” -He’d also have a talent for these womanly things: hair, make-up, nails, what clothes fit what shape, colour matching, bras. You name it, this boy will have the answer. -He’d be asked for help with any minor, unfamiliar task by Shiki and Dai -Rikka would definitely be the type to wear long, elegant dresses with fancy hairdos to match and no doubt he’d wear the biggest heels -Rikka would really enjoy his time as a woman, he’s perfectly content with being a man but I think he’d miss it from time to time, though probably more for the experience with the group and being able to take part in different forms of mothering, such a sweet pea~

Dai: -He would be super embarrassed, honestly I don’t think he’d even be able to look at himself properly. -He’d be the type to wear cute, oversized jumpers, solely to hide himself though. -Somebody help this angel with his bra before he hurts himself. He doesn’t want to look down but he really wants to get this contraption on. Mother Rikka would have to come help him. “These are so uncomfortable, how do women wear them?” -honestly though, I think Dai would have the biggest chest, and it would indeed be a big chest -He would be CLUMSY, he knows how to navigate his own body but he greatly underestimates his new chest, he knocks EVERYTHING. This man is a disaster, between his embarrassment, lack of knowledge in womanly things and his body. Out of everyone, he learns the most from this experience.
