like …. this page almost made me cry. genuinely. i adore larue so much and it was so nice to see him again….. he’s definitely my favorite member of geto’s family (excluding geto himself ofc) and clearly the most heartfelt!!! there’s the scene in shibuya where he stops the rest of the family from harming each other because he knows that’s the last thing geto would want, he calls everyone by their first name…. it just feels like he understood geto the most. understood that what geto cared about above all else was his family, not his own plan (hot take maybe?? but i’ll die on that hill).

and goshhhh…… ”we all loved suguru-chan” :((( you don’t UNDERSTAND how emotional i feel rn. i mean we basically already knew this but it just feels so nice to get confirmation on how loved geto was!!! not just by a couple members of his family, but by all of them!!!! i think it’s so telling that even miguel, who acts a bit colder than someone like larue, was willing to help geto and grew to love him. geto is just such a sincere character at his core and i think that’s how he won them all over. but aaaa i’m just :((((( they loved him!!!!! and he loved them just as much!!!!!! i’ve said this before but i NEED a slice of life spinoff manga only featuring geto and his family.,, they mean so much to me.

the vampyre by 18th century author john polidori is a self insert vampiric yuri

ok fucking hear me out on this one.

general thesis: lord byron (you might know him as the guy who wrote don juan), infamous for being a queer little hedonistic slut, pioneered gothic romantic horror by permanently changing the brain chemistry of one mary shelly + john william polidori. part one of two.

so the story starts off when byron and his doctor (polidori) fucked off to some mansion for the summer. shelly (~19 at the time)? + her husband (percy shelly, also rlly prolific poet) was convinced by one of byron's fangirls to chase him there, and somehow ended up living at the mansion. they did cocaine and drank and probably fucked in that lovely summer house, but MOST IMPORTANTLY they wrote. a lot. they were all authors/poets to some extent, they ended up swapping ideas and bouncing criticism and basically doing the 1800s equivalent of livejamming on discord. this went on for a few weeks or so.

one fateful night, all these fuckers got locked into the mansion because of a huuuuuuuge storm that took place, and naturally byron started telling them horror stories (The Burial: A Fragment, probably) that he made up on the spot. this scared the living shit out of his audience, and byron gleefully challenged them to come up with a story just as good. polidori attempted, proceeded to get humiliated live in front of the other authors by byron, and years later, out of spite, wrote:

THE VAMPYRE, one of the very first written vampire novels.

byron's influence in this novel cannot be understated. as aforementioned, byron thought polidori couldnt write to save his life, and polidori therefore had this weird idolizing love/hate relationship with him. the vampyre was, in essence, a giant "fuck you" to his old employer that he too could write a good book—even if, at the same time, he took parts of the burial from earlier to write it. in fact, the villain of vampyre is simultaneously 1) modeled after byron 2) a ruthless heartless sadistic vampire who ends up killing several perfect young girls and eventually the main protagonist 3) the world's first vampiric sexyman.

later ruthven comes back (duh) and tries to marry aubrey's sister—aubrey attempts to tell everyone but ruthven reminds him of the oath;

aubrey has a nervous breakdown and ends up dying while ruthven marries his sister, sucks her blood, and flees to the night.

Personally if I had to rank those three, Zero/18 is the worst, then Restoration/19, and then Shisno Duology/16-17. Shisno Duology I think has more redeeming elements (like FINALLY getting a Donut arc and giving Sister depth and moments that showed of Wash and Carolina’s relationship) and even though it had writing elements I really didn’t like (Tucker being more of an asshole, Grif suddenly being a MAJOR asshole for no reason despite the arc he JUST went through in s15, trying to insert gds but actually they’re just AI but they’re the most advanced AI in the world to a stupid degree) it at least tried to give ALL of our main characters something to do, like it felt ooc and annoying at times but it was still THEM and they were still THERE.

The same canNOT be said for Restoration or Zero. Zero I hate the most because it stars an all new cast that they tell us is so cool and we should care about them and take them seriously, but they never show us anything worthy of that, and it also just feels like the creators of Zero watched the Freelancer Saga and took away that fans thought what was interesting was the cool action scenes and how badass these guys were and the emotional conflicts and how they sidelined our main characters. It’s like they didn’t realize that the Freelancers are supposed to be bad people and we were watching to see them eventually fall. As for how Zero treats the three (3) main characters from the og it DOES have, holy fuck is it terrible. Carolina is way undermined and sidelined for these people she should not care about, Wash’s disability was cured in a single throwaway line before he was put out of commission anyway, and Tucker, oh man Tucker. My blood is already boiling. They turned him back into a creep and an asshole, separated him from his team for no reason, KILLED HIM and gave his SUPER IMPORTANT SWORD to some random chick who STILL HAS THE SWORD AT THE END SO FUCK EVERYTHING THE SHOW SAID MADE TUCKER SPECIAL IG.

Sorry. Got heated there. Anyway Restoration is between those two in terms of quality, but it’s still bad. The character writing jumped all over the place, the pacing was atrocious, it felt like they didn’t have enough time to execute the story they were trying to do, while at the same time they wasted so much time. They tried to make Simmons the main character, which doesn’t come across AT ALL, they sideline basically everyone but Simmons, Caboose, Grif, and Sarge, and still don’t really give any satisfying narrative conclusion to any of them. Sarge’s death is stupid, Simmons staying in the army is stupid, Grif retiring and therefore being away from Simmons is stupid, and Caboose doesn’t really get an arc or honestly anything that gives him character, he’s just a plot device. They make Tucker the Meta and framed it as a big important thing in the marketing and then had all the characters act blasé about it, didn’t let anyone who WOULD be impacted by Meta!Tucker, actually get impacted by it, he got 23 total lines in the story, they tortured Tucker for months that felt like YEARS and then didn’t allow him to process any of that HORRIFIC TRAUMA and sent him out of the series with a SEX JOKE. Wash’s B plot was TOTALLY pointless and doesn’t make sense narratively given the end of s13. Donut was given a cameo that was just one more offensive gay joke. I swear the only good thing was the Chex reunion at the very end. It was also poorly made, with the animation looking rlly bad at times, stuff like Caboose’s double knees and the mouse cursor on screen the most notable (but also there was just a lot of the action that looked rough) and as a series ending finale it was a major fucking letdown on pretty much all fronts, but despite all that, it still isn’t worse than Zero. Imagine that.

i clearly wanna see some resolution or 'get together' scene ONSCREEN (cuz i have argued previously that they HAVE already banged offscreen in Dennis Gets Divorced) but I'd like to see, at the very least, going from writing Macdennis as subtext to making that the overt text. Which, in their defense, they've started doing since s12 ... but I just hope they execute the culmination of the storyline they started in s12/s13 in a way that.. does not suck ass. and i'm usually willing to give rcg a lot of leeway about this particular thing cuz like. theyre str8 they dont know any better LOL. but yeah i wanna see mac and dennis kiss, fuck, date, idc! something!

shit... good question.... yknow i'll just use this as an opportunity to say i hate the way they wrote fat mac. it just felt like they squandered his potential. the way they executed the joke itself was just reeking of rcg's own body image issues which makes it just uncomfortable/not funny if you dont ALSO have rcg's body issues LOL. like i think if they'd done a slower progression over time where the characters just Look Their Age as they age would be a good subversion and probably not too difficult to maintain LMAO. and if Rob wanted Mac's part in that to be gaining some weight for a season/a couple seasons that could've been subversive in itself and done well. But I think bc they made it a seasonal gimmick it suffered for that. So I'm not really answering the question i Know but KJDFGNKDJ tbh i loooove the cast of characters we've become familiar with I think they're all great

- i like to imagine cassandra and rapunzel had like….kind of a confession in peev but it wasnt really discussed in depth nor did they actually untangle their feelings for each other so i dont think they actually get together until cass comes back after being gone for a few years. honestly at this point rapunzel still thinks her feelings for cass are platonic so like💀💀💀

this means when cass DOES leave we cue rapunzels Gay Longing (tm) as she does things that she swears are totally platonic like wearing the tunics she left behind and spending hours reading each letter she sends because she has to take in every word and appreciate every last bit of her essence. she sniffs the envelopes because they still have cassandra’s scent on them and. yeah she’s down bad

and eugene can obviously TELL theres something Not Platonic here. but he can also tell rapunzel doesn’t realize it herself and its not his place to just Tell Her so he has to do his best to urge her in the right direction. he’s incredibly open to discussing it and tells her its ok to process those feelings and figure them out. i think rapunzel having a close female friend would rlly help her understand those feelings and she’s like “OHHH so girls DONT just want to kiss each other on the lips as like a friend thing….huh”. i’m only half joking btw.

- rapunzel LOVES having little trinkets that remind her of her loved ones and her partners are no exception. before cass left the two of them swapped bracelets because it reminded them of each other and they basically wear them forever… if they ever break or get too worn or anything they’ll make new ones together. rapunzel also has a three banded wedding ring for both cass and eugene. she puts them all on her right hand along with her bracelet from varian, because she’s right handed and likes to see them while shes working and be reminded of her favorite people in the world <33

- cass coming to rapunzel and eugene’s wedding and instead of throwing the bouquet into the air rapunzel throws it right into cass’ arms and winks at her. eugene’s giving her a smug look like “you’re stuck with us now”

- rapunzel’s bed is big enough that sleeping arrangements are easy, though they dont really have anything consistent. they all take turns sleeping in the middle and sometimes some of them end up sleeping separately, like when rapunzel and varian pass out on the couch and eugene and cass don’t have the heart to wake them up

- rapunzel and cass going out to the lagoon together since it’s “their place” but quickly realizing it doesn’t feel the same without eugene there, so they bring him out to join them and now it’s all of their’s <3 they have quiet picnics there for anniversaries and stuff

- before rapunzel started dating cassandra, every year on rapunzel’s birthday (or just sporadically for the fun of it) eugene would her out on boat just like they did when they first met. when cass came along, they realize those boats aren’t really made to comfortably sit three adults, so they sit out on rapunzel’s balcony for their little lantern dates instead

lance, the girls and varian + the 7k kids eventually take note of this and band together to build a big enough boat for all three of them as a surprise, which they’re all thrilled about. when they’re finally able to go out together its super cozy….they all just sit there with raps snuggled warmly between cass and eugene, they’re cuddling and playing with each others hair and eugene has his arm loosely around both rapunzel and cass’ shoulders which is enough for them….augh they’re so soft

- on that note one of my favorite things abt uknighted dream is like just how comfortable they are with one another. eugene and cass may not be romantically involved but they still trust and care abt each other deeply. the combination of platonic and romantic love and just that feeling of being safe with Your People. that’s just what the whole dynamic is abt to me

uknighted dream is abt cass and rapunzel making out on the bed and then eugene walks in wearing only a towel and hes like “where’s my GOOD moisturizer. like u know the one” and cass and rapunzel both pause and look up at him completely unfazed and cass is like “i think lance had it” and eugene just yells “FUCK” and leaves the room and then they casually go back to what they were doing

- cass and eugene spar together often and rapunzel likes to sit and watch while she sketches them… partially for figure sketching and partially just to….enjoy the view

ofc cass and eugene are still to this day amazed with her art and always admire it after the fact while rapunzel’s like “^^; this isn’t even that detailed or like. Good” “WHAT DO YOU MEANNNN THIS IS INCREDIBLE”

- going waaaay back to post movie here, but kind of relating to that, i think gothel never complimented rapunzel’s art. unless it caused a mess it never mattered to her so it wasn’t worth mentioning…because of this rapunzel kind of just assumed this was something Everyone could do and it wasn’t anything important, so when eugene saw her paintings for the first time and was completely blown away rapunzel was so confused. like can you not??? do that??? and eugene’s like NO WHAT?????

rapunzel’s still a bit awkward about receiving compliments relating to her artistic skills but shes learning to appreciate it and her talents a lot more. especially with both her partners constantly showering her in praise and affection

- MATCHING TATTOOS!!!! raps designed this one to get on her thigh and eventually eugene and cass both got one to match <33 it’s forever her favorite of all her designs

- the three of them having tonsssss of visual signals and cues that they send each other during royal events or through big crowds to easily spot each other without having to say anything. rapunzel especially needs these cues a lot of the time since she’s autistic and can easily get overwhelmed or suddenly need to leave the room and eugene is really good at making up bullshit excuses for it if anyone asks

Just so yk backstory isn’t 100% done and it’s changed a bit over the last year.

His full legal name is Edgar Rosemary Marigold II but he was given the nickname Rose by one of his besties so he just says that now mostly cuz he hates the name Edgar and he’s also legally dead so… anyways basically he was found as a young child in the woods by the head knight of the time the og Edgar and Edgar’s friend Tomas who was also a knight. Rose says that he hit his head but all he remembers is that a vampire attacked him and his family travelling and killed his parents so the adults are like “yeah we Finna take you to the king aight?” And rose was like “oh type shit” so like they go to the kingdom and rose meets Tomas’ kid John and they become besties. The king is like “yo Edgar imma give u this kid.” And Edgar was like “BITCH TF????” And the king was like “yeah bitch u fucking my wife.” So time skip like 20yrs later John and rose are training to be knights and like rose is told to go kill a rat so he follows the rat into the woods cuz rose is a dumbass and gets attacked by the vampire that murdered his parents and rose becomes a vampire. Rose passes out and is found by John (they are so gay for each other Istg) and John is like “bro you good?” While rose is having a fucking break down because he became the thing he hates like “TF U THINK BRO IM A STINKY ANKLE BITING BLOOD SUCKER!!” And then they have their gay moment of comfort and then they go to Edgar and he is fucking raging cuz he’s like “YOU IDIOT HOW COULD YOU LET SOMEONE AMBUSH U TURN U INTO A VAMPIRE” so rose and John run away and Tomas is distraught he lost his son while Edgar was like “thank fuck those dipshits are gone, let’s go kill em” so anyways back to our gay bois rose and John, they hide away in a cave for like a few days, rose drinks rats blood to survive and John eats berries and leftover rat meat, but eventually… roses instincts kick in, actually good writing part now.

Rose lunges for John, his eyes red as blood, blood he wanted, he needed. His bit into his screaming friends neck draining him of all the blood he had in him. By the time rose snapped back John was gone… rose sobbed harder then he ever had before apologising, pleading for John to wake up, but he didn’t.

Now anyways back to the funny writing section, rose being a bich baby alerts the knights nearby looking for him including Edgar and Tomas, Edgar tries to kill him but rose, still crying like a little bich, turns Edgar to mince meat and all the other knights except Tomas, and Tomas is like “dude… sorry” and rose crying less by like there are still tears is like “me too bro, u wanna live? I’m chill with u” and Tomas is like “type shit man” so like they go bury John and Tomas goes somewhere else while rose goes back to the kingdom and murders everyone and burns the kingdom cuz “tee hee fire go BOOM!” And then he goes on to his own adventures.
