Broke: arc of a child fearing to go in footsteps of their parent (repenting for the sins of your father even though you are a completely different person. )
Woke: arc of a clone fearing to turn out like the original person (real nature vs nurture, I am the same yet different because of my experiences)

The Danse Mechabre: White Elephant
AAR #01
Ran the first session in what is hopefully going to be a full Lancer campaign over the weekend. Gonna be posting these after-action reports from the GM perspective in case it's useful to anyone (and it turns out there are a couple of things I need to make sure I remember). No spoilers because at least half of the players are on the tumbles (eye see you).
Characters (LL 0):
Raiju (Hacker/Ace/Centimane) - GMS Everest - Delta
Sunshine (Grease Monkey/Technophile/Leader) - GMS Everest - Exchange of Affection
Rook (Walking Armory/Stormbringer/Brutal) - GMS Everest - Not Fun By Myself
Daylight (Technophile/Crack Shot/Infiltrator) - GMS Everest - Hits Different
Magpie (Hacker/Technophile/Centimane) - GMS Everest - General Protection Fault
You will notice right away that there are three - count 'em, three -characters with the Technophile talent. That means there are three bonus NHPs in the party. And the first thing I neglected to do is prompt for more interactions with the bonus NHPs. The only one that got characterization in this session was Molotov, Sunshine's little buddy. The reason I didn't prompt for more interaction is mostly because this group is used to 2.5-3 hour sessions and I am trying to hit one combat per session, which does not leave a lot of time for roleplay outside of combat. The schedule will need to be adjusted somewhat.
So in the year 4570u the PCs depart as crewmembers (and one stowaway) from the secret KRAKEN facility on the highly experimental blinkship Eye of the Tiger. The crew of the Eye of the Tiger had secretly been replaced with revolutionaries, planning to use its blink carver to quickly head towards the core worlds and help overthrow Union's Second Committee. They go into stasis, trigger the ship's blink carver and wake up to a variety of alarms blaring. It eventually turns out the year is now 5016u and the blink carver may have moved them in space as well as time. Or something. They fix up the ship a little and realize that they're near a planet that is putting out a distress call. When they also get the opposing force's broadcast about returning the planet to 'traditional Cradle values' they decide the situation requires mechanized intervention. Important note: I'm very happy with my players for not immediately deciding they need to intervene on the side of the people putting out the distress call and that maybe they need more information before getting stuck in. Keep hold of that instinct, just because you didn't need it this time doesn't mean you won't in the future.
So while the Eye of the Tiger engages the enemy fleet in orbit, the lancers drop right in to protect an urban area.
Combat 1.1: We get to be the Cavalry for Once
Sitrep: Control
OPFOR:
Pyro x2
Priest Vehicle x2
Hive x2
Grunt Breacher Vehicle x6
Outcome: PC victory, 11 - 8
No PC structure or stress damage, though Hits Different and Not Fun By Myself both used a Repair. The only mech to not get hit was Delta, which secured the lower left control zone and blasted away with its howitzer (whoever put the howitzer on the default Hacker loadout in COMP/CON is a real joker).
Here's the aftermath of the battle after I invoked the mercy rule when it became clear the NPCs couldn't take enough control zones some time around the middle of the last round (not pictured: the Hives' Razor Swarms that were still in 3/4 control zones).
Tumblr media
(Tokens by Retrograde Minis (on the basic blank 1-hex tokens that come with Lancer so they show up well), map by Interpoint Station's pixel art assets, they released their new mapmaking tool like the day before we played. VTT is Roll20)
Most of the civilians had already been evacuated from the area with two exceptions: the blue building just above the lower left control zone (some kind of cultural building maybe, there were a lot of civilians around it), and the orange building to the left of the lower right control zone (an IPS-N showroom/liaison office). Those were both intact at the end of the combat, which will be relevant next session.
The enemy comp is very short-ranged which ended up working because the PCs had to get at them to get into their control zones. It also features a lot of burn which I ended up not using correctly (see below). I maybe went a bit hard on Strikers with that many Breachers, but I knew it would be fine because Breachers can only hit something once in a blue moon (Hits Different was the only one to get tagged by a Breacher shotgun). A lot of vehicles because I like combined arms in my mecha (I think I get this from my exposure to Battletech). No optionals on any of the enemies to reduce cognitive load on me, and even then there was plenty I forgot (see below).
I was worried about cover and LoS going into this because it doesn't feel like the Lancer rules have enough detail on that but it was easy enough to adjudicate in practice. Also shout out to one of the best rules in Lancer: the PC that went last nominates the PC to go next. That helped speed things up a lot.
Overall for a first combat with 5 PCs, getting through it in ~2.5 hours is pretty impressive! HOWEVER:
Things I Definitely Forgot About:
Tech attacks ignore cover!
Engagement gives +1 diff on ranged attacks!
Pyros deal double burn to anyone who already has burn!
Pyros can put out their FIREBREAK shield at the end of each of their turns!
Breacher's shotguns have a threat of 3!
All the PC talents!
Thankfully this can kind of be written off in fiction as the OPFOR being kind of bozos and the PCs not being fully familiar with their mechs (maybe some residual grogginess from stasis and the fact that mech warfare was still pretty new to them).
So definitely some things to keep in mind for next time - I'll have to come up with a format of NPC stat blocks that works for me because just using their stats in the core book clearly means some things get overlooked.
Next Time: Straight into the Wall?
INDULGE ME:
Campaign notebook is a Maruman Mnemosyne N195A, 7mm lined. A month ago I swore I would only use binders for campaigns going forward but Lancer seems constrained enough (note I did not say 'on rails') that I can get away with not doing that (as opposed to, say, a hexcrawling sandbox) that I can get away with it. Plus this notebook was only holding a half-done campaign idea that is unlikely to see the light of day so I figured I'd use the rest of the pages up. I've found the paper is very good at taking fountain pen ink, though I'm not using a fountain pen for these notes. I've settled on a Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.5mm gel pen as working best, and I do like that pen (it's what I used to finish out my #Dungeon23 notes).

Lady o' War Crew
I've done a little post for a lot of my parties, but realised I haven't done one for the Lady o' War's crew! Since that game just finished up the other day I'm thinking about it a lot, so gonna write a ramble piece about the team. <3
These characters are from a one-on-one Spelljammer campaign, starting with Spelljammer Academy and running into Light of Xaryxis.
Vale Hart (he/him): my PC, a man cobbled together from parts of different dead people. He still had flashes of their memories, and part of his motivation to go into space was to make memories that he knew were his very own, as they were from somewhere those other people had never been. Vale was held together with glowing golden stitches, and it was the energy from these that he manipulated to magical effect (class-wise, he was a rune knight fighter.)
Vale had a figurine of wondrous power, which could summon a sapphire star lancer he named Nebulain (he/him.)
Vale died in the final session of Light of Xaryxis, returning the light contained in his friend Xedalli's ring to the star Xaryxis, which destroyed the star and himself in the process.
Edwin (she/her): the team's spelljammer, a human who uses the Mage (Healer) sidekick class. Edwin is an astronomer and was very excited to take her first steps into space! After the party defeated a hostile reigar named Hastain, Edwin bonded with their esthetic (a giant space jellyfish with spelljamming capabilities), and this joined the team's slowly growing fleet. Edwin named the esthetic the Lady o' War.
Demetrius Ozmata (he/him): the third member of the original team. He uses the Expert sidekick class. Demetrius at first appeared to be a snobby, selfish elven nobleman, but when he saw how his behaviour annoyed Vale and Edwin he admitted that he hasn't really had friends before and asked them to help him. He became closer to the group after this moment of vulnerability, and they soon learned his poorly kept secret: he is a recently turned vampire. Demetrius' parents had sent him away when he tried to stop the nobility hoarding precious water on his asteroid home, and the man he was sent to work for turned out to be a powerful ancient bloodsucker.
V (she/her): a mechanical woman who had very few memories when the party met her, on a ship where she was slowly being taken apart by clockwork horrors. V uses the Warrior sidekick class. Although she couldn't remember her name, the letter 'V' was scratched into her chest, and she adopted that as her new name. During their travels, the party discovered that V was a courier robot with a precious cargo tucked away in her chest cavity: a solar dragon egg. Her previous owner allowed her to stay with the party in exchange for the egg.

Starcannon's game recommendations part 1
Sooooooo originally this was supposed to be something I'd put on a neocities website if I ever made one, but I'm lazy and forgot to work on that, so I'm just gonna make a trillion Tumblr posts instead. Theres a lot of games I feel like aren't well known enough, and it's bugged me to no end that so many game recommendation videos/sites/whatever usually just have the same 50 big popular games, or just a few semi hidden indie games. Some of the best games I've played have been found through the weirdest of places and I wanna make them at least slightly more findable, so this! Enjoy occasional posts of me rambling about less well known games I enjoy/think other people might like. I'll try my best to stick to more obscure stuff but a few more known picks might make it in anyway out of personal bias. These won't be in a particular order, so whenever I get the brain blast moment and write one of these, whatever I think of then is what you get.
Game 1: Vernal Edge
Platforms: Everything
A vibe as hell metroidvania with character action inspired combat. It's very slightly jank at times, some bits of the combat feel a bit slower than they should be, and getting lost isn't a super rare occurrence, but the varied and vibrant locations, tons of secrets/cool achievements, banger music, and fun bosses keep it enjoyable throughout. Probably won't take you too long to finish, and the story isn't the most groundbreaking thing in the world, but it's cool and that's what matters. Hard mode semi-reccomended for first playthrough.
Game 2: Jet Lancer
Platforms: PC, Switch
Ace Combat but in 2d (kinda)! A semi-bullet hell arena-ish shmup thingy and the first game that made me wish something like these posts existed. Jet lancer randomly jumpscared me on my phone's news tab one day and instantly became one of the most memorable games of all time. Its arcady gameplay, over the top story, varied mission design, and big vibe energy creates the feeling of an old action anime in the best way possible. If you want something deep and introspective, go away, but shmup fans and plane enjoyers will find a lot to love about this game. Also please play new game plus all the way to the end trust me.
Game 3: CrossCode
Platforms: Everything
Probably my favorite game ever. A fantastic action RPG that takes place within a fictional MMO, crosscode’s fluid and satisfying combat drew me in, but the story
Mmmmmmmmmmmm the STORY
It doesn't seem like much at first but the character writing is unbelievably well done, and the way the story's stakes end up both unbelievably massive in scale yet still very personal just hits in a certain way. It even has a not boring elemental weakness system! Just go play it please. Post game story dlc highly recommended even though it does have some flaws.
Game 4: Echo Point Nova
Platforms: PC
Shmovement at its finest. Echo point nova is an open world movement shooter with nearly unrestrained freedom. You've got tons of ways to move around the world, no space is wasted, and the things it does to reinvent its combat over time are very cool. Area specific gimmicks, tons of enemy types, and giant shadow of the colossus boss fights tie everything together into a nonsense explosion filled adventure. It's no immersive world like breath of the wild, and the story is basically nothing, but the fun combat and efficient world design makes this one of the best open world games I've played ever. Also the ENTIRE THING WORKS SEAMLESSLY IN ONLINE COOP, I beat the whole game with a friend and it was a fantastic time.
Game 5: Virtua Unlimited Project
Platforms: PC
The unofficial mega man zero 5, at least in some ways. Despite a VERY rough English translation, virtua unlimited project absolutely nails the feeling of the zero games to an impressive degree for how jank the rest of it is. Everything feels just as expected, plus a few new movement options that slot right into the established formula. If you liked any of the zero games, this is for you, provided you're alright with a very nothing story with strange translation issues. Hard mode very recommended if you're familiar with the zero games.
That's all for now, I'll try and make this 5 games per post but don't expect any kind of schedule.

Do you have a set of fav Servants? And do you have a background/story for your PC, like the ones you've made for the various MM MCs?
✿ I tend to run with Heracles as my leader, since he’s a powerhouse, and I also really love Emiya (UBW represent!) Arturia/Altria and Altera are top waifus and are also monsters, so I’ll grab them for my support depending on who’s available, and Alexander/Mash/Caster Cu/Lancer Cu fill up my back line depending on typing. I just got Nero tho, so I’m levelling her up because she’s one of my favorites (I’ve loved her since Fate/Extra.)
I. OK IT’S EMBARRASSING BUT I SORTA DO. My Master is from a branch family associated with the Clock Tower, and she was born with relatively weak magic circuits so she was deemed fairly worthless by her parents. For all of her life, she’s served as a “secretary” of sorts to her older siblings - she’s focused all of her attentions on gaining a wide berth of historical and practical knowledge, making her an excellent consultant and adviser. Her manner was cold and terse, and everyone joked about her complete lack of humor, treating her more like a walking encyclopedia than a person. In reality, she’s actually pretty pleasant and highly competitive, spending a lot of her free time playing board games with servants and reading countless novels in her room, but her family never really saw that side of her.
She became aware of Chaldea due to their research ties with the Clock Tower, and - in the interests of making a name for herself - she joined up with them as a Master candidate. After all, they were desperate, and willing to grab anyone to pad their numbers. After the disaster, she proved herself to be capable and quick witted - though naturally talentless at magic - and she mainly got by through her insight into tactics (honed by her long hours playing strategy games for fun.)
With her servants, she’s still learning that she doesn’t have to be a robotic doll that spouts out information, and it’s a total learning process for her. Once she grasps that, oh, she can be as much of a sarcastic shit as she wants, she starts sassing people like crazy, and she also teaches her Servants how to play all of the tabletop games that she loves. Mash is frequently interested in her stories about playing politics at the Clock Tower, and she’s teaching her how to be a Monopoly Demon.
i don’t actually have a name for her since my FGO username is Glitter, but I kinda like the name Garnet.
hanamayhem said to anyway-i-love-vanderwood:NOW THAT BEGS THE QUESTION; if Vanderwood was a Servant, who would they be.
✿ oh shit
Off the cuff answer? Archer, due to their independent action ability. Vanderwood is pretty self-sufficient, so that seems like a good class for them, and I can totally see them surviving and duking it out without their master watching their every move. My secondary inclination is Assassin, but I consider Vanderwood to be more proficient at combat tbh.

20 Best Tweets of All Time About About Fishing Strike Free GEMS
Fishing Strike Free GEMS
Following my all the time meeting and a night dish with my youngest I boarded the Caledonian Sleeper. A lot of the rest are rather wacky or concerns that it would be out-of-character for Duane to even recognize. That very same year, Sega released Jet Rocket, a combat trip simulator including cockpit controls that might relocate the gamer aircraft around a landscape presented on a screen and shoot missiles onto targets that take off when struck.1. Throughout the 1. Pong in 1. 97. 2.1. In 1. 97. 2, Sega released an electro- mechanical game called Awesome Shark, an initial- individual light gun shooter recognized for appearing in the 1.
I suggest, I have actually played a great deal of negative jRPGs in my day yet there is an unique sort of silly when it pertains to most of Squeenix's writing. There aren't a lot of globes she 'd work in. I believe in a lot of places she had actually mouth off to the incorrect person and have her face imploded by a collection of iron knuckles or perhaps an elephant gun, depending on the regional tech level. My all-time favourite game is Vagrant Story. Duane has even more boobs than Sette, and that's frightening.
Fetched 2. 01. 0- 0. Video Games PC Xbox 3. PS3 Wii PSP DS PS2 Play. Duane and Sette had always had a wonderful dynamic in RP yet I had not explored it much 'cause it's About Fishing Strike Cheats sort of negative manners to have fun with yourself overly in roleplay. I think Sette might need to insult him by calling him Jellyfish in the future. On one hand there are a lot of various fish, a range of fishing settings, and no scarcity of content. Duane is Sette's "attack zombie and flesh guard." It's his task to keep protecting her:-RRB- Glad you dig it.
In phase 3, initially the waystation girl finds out Sette's robbed the idea container and sends out the brute squad after her, so Sette and Duane leave the waystation in a slightly even more hurried way. Players may play their solitary- gamer personalities on open realms; characters in shut worlds are stored on Blizzard's servers, as a procedure versus dishonesty, where they must be played every 9. Initially these shut realms offered their purpose of protecting against disloyalty, as open games underwent many abuses as the characters were stored on gamers' very own hard drives.
My favourite kind of video games these days are easy, adjustable ones like Minecraft and Terraria. A handy thing to do when creating a badass character is to observe them from the POV of a less badass personality, and to leave big swaths of their life, history, emotions, and expectation a mystery. 20 Up-and-Comers to Watch in the Fishing Strike App Industry
I recognize Sette has actually garnered huge hate - and truly so - but there are some people who insist she is their waifu. Kitase was much more concerned with making his shitty shooter (that no one suched as, also people that don't offer a spunk concerning the story), and the characters were simply improperly devised devices to connect the degrees together. I must start allowing Sette response them in-character. With Fishing Strike hacking guide, with any luck, you will be hacking Fishing Strike games quickly and have a more outstanding and enjoyable video game experience.
Leaving genuine this time around we left them going after the Wall surface and headed back down the hill adding Peacock and Comma to the days tally. Sette doesn't understand her birthday celebration. I really did not enter an organized setting up until after university however, when I was looking at some recommendation logs and saw a person on a site called Smashed Worlds was hotlinking some old art of mine for a character profile page. It's got the amazing intro of the god mythologies and the scene with Duane and Sette at the picnic table is lovely as heck. Even a damaged clock gets the moment best twice a day, as they say, and that can apply to Nomura's character design abilities.
