Tw: I tried to translate as best as possible some Brazilian terms and things that in reality I think would not really have a translation, but that I still tried to make it understandable for everyone.

Natalie who loves you very, very much and is obsessed with your culture, like she thinks it's so amazing and loves hearing you talk about it <3

Natalie has never been interested in really learning other languages, I mean I think she would know a little bit of Italian but mostly the swear words, but Portuguese? She is really interested in it, mostly the swear words (of course), but she really thinks it beautiful so much when you speak it and she always says that you sound like you are "singing".

Natty would try to make Brazilian food when she saw you sad and missing Brazil. She's not really a great cook but what counts is the intention and hers were definitely the best.

Her first real trip abroad would probably be with you and obviously with the destination being Brazil :))) thinking about your family who travels during Christmas and New Year's time to celebrate with their relatives in your country and you beg your parents to take Natty along :3

Natty who is literally like this: 😲 and you're still just at the airport lol

Leaving the airport and taking an Uber to her grandparents' house and she spends the whole way glued to the window like a puppy, looking and pointing at everything she sees and thinks is cool.

Thinking about living near the Center/Copacabana and she can see Christ the Redeemer from inside the car and she's all bouncy like:

"I want to go there, can we go there? Please, come on, come on, please it looks so cool!!"

Natty really likes Brazilian architecture and the aesthetics of more traditional houses because it is so cozy and has a warm, comfortable vibe.

Natty who loves her family because well...people can say whatever they want about Brazil and Brazilians, but the fact that we are an extremely warm people is kind of undeniable.

You would probably serve as a translator to mediate conversations between her and her family members since few of them actually speak English, yet, despite the language difference I can easily imagine her having conversations with your grandmother without your help where neither of them can really understand what the other is saying, but somehow they understand each other (??) they are not speaking the same language or anything but you just catch them talking and agreeing and getting along really well while Natalia helps her peel potatoes in the kitchen.

Natalie would be 100% a fan of MPB, samba and funk (especially old funk).

I can really see her loving Rita Lee, Alcione, Claudinho e Bochecha, Mc Marcinho (and secretly Mc Carol and yes, I think she would probably know what Carol's songs are about because she asked, she would also find the lyrics the height of humor).

Natalie who totally loves and worships Brazilian bikinis and would look like a cartoon character, eyes popping out into big hearts and tongue drooling 😭😭 she just loves you so much and thinks you look so hot in one.

She loves how Brazilian barbecue is so different from American barbecue and I honestly think she would like Brazilian barbecue better.

Her love garlic bread.

She would love to go to museums and tourist spots and would want to take lots of pictures with you and she is not really a fan of taking pictures but she just wants to have memories of good times with the girl she loves so much :(( she is so sweet.

I would love to take out at night to enjoy Pedra do Sal and I know she would love.

Trying to teach her to samba but she is a bit clumsy, however she learned to shake it funk like a good Brazilian very quickly and you are in shock, because what the hell did they do to your sweet girl 😭😭😭 your cousins taught her and she thought it was super fun, she shows it to you like she just won an award, full of pride for having learned and it's cutie.

Imagine going to the beach with her and having to drench her from head to toe in sunscreen because she's so white and otherwise she'd be as red as a shrimp 🤏 so baby, I can't stop thinking about her with her cheeks and the tip of her nose covered in sunscreen because her face is the place that burns most easily.

Drinking caipirinha on the beach and eating corn with butter or fried fish with potatoes <33333

Playing ball with random people on the beach because a game between two or three people always ends up attracting strangers who end up joining in the game :)))

She would 100% buy a bracelet, earring or ring from some artisan seller on the beach.

Getting bikini tans on the beach with her and bleaching your hair on the roof of your house with her and your cousins ♡♡♡ imagene her sitting on the roof with your hair wrapped in aluminum foil and a towel over your shoulders with your cousins while you wait for it to be time to wash the product.

Again talking about the fact that Natalie likes swear words because she would really love them and would love the variety of swear words and expressions that Brazilians use to show anger or indignation because there are SO MANY options and they seem so much funnier.

100% buy a blouse from Brazil or if you have one she just takes yours >—<

Imagine celebrating New Year's Eve with her on the sands of Copacabana and kissing her when the countdown ends, she would melt like butter in your arms and love the fireworks

Now let's talk about the religious part:

A little discretion and observation: Umbanda is an eminently spiritualist and spiritualizing religion. Therefore, the faith professed by its practitioners, most of whom are mediums, requires a strong belief in God and in the existence of the spiritual world that interacts with the material plane all the time. For those who are interested, I recommend that they research and study more about it, as it is a very beautiful and interesting religion; here I will not go into much depth on the subject because I am not a practitioner and I do not see myself having a great place to speak and understand it, despite finding it incredible.

She would be like a curious puppy honestly, asking questions all the time and being all curious about everything.

She would try to record the names of the Oxirás and Pombas Gira because she thinks they sound good and are cool to pronounce.

She would find the clothes and leashes so cute and I can see her asking if she can wear a leash too <3

If she went to a Terreiro during a party for one Oxirá she would literally look like this: 😲😲 like so amazed by everything.

She would love to interact with the entities.

If she had the opportunity to be in contact with the Erês at some point, I can really imagine her sitting on the floor playing with them and being so sweet <33 and they would really like her.

She would like to try to learn how to sing a point and try to understand the "difficult words" and she wants to learn so much because she knows that your religion is so important to you and if it is important to you, then it is important to her too.

I would be extremely angry if someone tried to offend your religion in any way.

you've been working with steven at the museum for quite a while now. him, still a gift shop-ist and you a new guide for the greek exhibit. at first steven was jealous how they easily gave away the position of tour guide but when he passed by your group during your first month when donna made him do inventory, he was hooked.

you were smart and passionate, fun and easygoing. plenty of the people you guided had questions to ask that you readily answered, both from adults and children. usually the former are quiet, uninterested in the old history but you had a way to charm people, steven was no exception.

so he made the effort to befriend you. approaching you more until it was you who would seek him out during lunch. on days you were able to leave early, you'd join steven doing inventory because donna got mad at him again for being late. as per usual.

"you don't have to stick around f'me love, i'm used to it." earthy browns would look at yours through curly bangs, sheepish at having held you back from going home early. "i know i don't... but i want to."

and that was when he had truly fallen in love with you. if you can even call that love. steven was obsessed, he was obsessed with your kindness, with your knowledge. he wanted that all to himself. how can he not when you readily give it when he comes by to ask for your time. you were so nice, so good, so beautiful... he hopes you like what he has planned for you.

he began following you in and out of work, uncaring he loses sleep. not that he gets that many hours in anyways. he followed you for months until he has learned your routine outside your house, after that he learned how to break into your place and get to know you even better in the comforts of your home. he steals a few things, a spoon you used that day, a shirt buried underneath your laundry, a pair of panties from your freshly folded ones... some he returns and others, well let's just say they became a permanent part of his collection of you.

he worships the things you own, treats them like fine china. most of the time that is. he uses them to his pleasure other times, unable to hold back. your smell would linger on the items he'd steal and he'd sniff it until it disappears, replaced by his own. then he'll clean them up (he bought the same laundry detergent just for this case) and return them. most of them.

nearly a year into your friendship, steven asked you out for a simple hang out at the park, saying he found a nice spot for a picnic just you and him. unaware of his true intentions, you had agreed.

at first it had gone well, you and steven chatted and chatted, eating the sandwiches you had prepared until he handed you a glass of lemonade did it start going downhill. half an hour after your brunch you started feeling sluggish, your mind hazy and muddled. you don't notice steven grinning in joy, knowing that his plans were finally coming into fruition. he had drugged your drink, enough to weaken your muscles for you to go down without a fight and then... light's out.

oh how long did he wait for this moment.

"oh love, i've wanted you for so long... ever since i passed by your first tour i've been madly in love with you d'you know that? of course you didn't silly me." he circles your weakening body, struggling to stay awake, struggling to hear him. "w-why?" was the only thing your lips were able to get out in your fight to stay conscious, alarm bells ringing in your head at steven's approaching figure.

he grins a cruel, wicked grin when you're finally unable to hold yourself up, lying limply on the blanket he had all but spread out and you looked like a masterpiece to him at that moment. like a fallen angel in your pretty white dress, hair spread out before you like a beautiful halo. like a painting, like art had come to life, you were so, so beautiful. you were gorgeous in his eyes and you always will be.

"why? well... i can't stop thinking how perfect we would be together."

🌈✨CRINGETOBER 2024✨🌈 DAY 9: CHILDHOOD VIDEO GAME

MySims folks, HI!!! I’ve been obsessed with the original MySims lately, so I made an introduction page for my player character!

LOTS of reminiscing under the cut, SORRY Y'ALL.

I recently got a Wii, but I haven't gotten too many games for it yet! EXCEPT for MySims! MySims is one of those foundational game series for me that I just love so much. Kingdom was maybe the most fun I remember having, and then Agents literally changed my brain chemistry. I'm very glad two of the games are getting released on the Switch. I'm going to collect and play all of them in order, and no joke, that's probably going to take a long time, because I take Sims building SOOO seriously. Maybe I'll do introductions for all my protags though, who knows!

ANYWAYS, this is Cala Mint! Cala was NOT my original MySims character as a child, tbh I don't really remember the Sim I made at all. I do know every single one I did make back then was super edgy, super goth. And absolutely no hate for that, I may do that for another character, but I just didn’t feel it for the first MySims game! And an idea struck me while messing in the character creator!

A long time ago, I completed the Not So Berry Challenge for the Sims 4! All ten gens! I wish I still had my screenshots, but unfortunately they all got blasted into the ether when I transferred my files from a different computer. However, I did draw ONE of my characters. My founder, Cala DeBerry!

Her fashion wasn't...GREAT lol, but I LOVED her. She was a mad scientist, her best friend at the lab was Caleb Vatore, she married Eva Capricciosa from Partihaus because they were always at the club together, she was enemies with Vlad. It was just so fun, I loved that entire challenge so much even though it took me FOUR years to do.

Now, Cala lives on in MySims! I imagine she's still a scientist type, but definitely more chill compared to the other scientists in this series. She's absolutely judging the fact that so many people in the town love to decorate with red apples. My first best friend was Vincent Skullfinder, because the museum was so fun to build. It'll probably take me a bit to get to Five Stars and fill in all my lots, BUT, I'm sooo enjoying replaying the game despite how poorly it runs. Seriously, I don't know how they made it run so bad but my Wii is screaming whenever it first loads anything.

I based this sheet on the Relationship book, if I had more time I would definitely have doodled more, but the MySims style is actually really really hard for me for some reason. More studies in the future will be needed for sure.

At The Field Station...

The next afternoon, Félix and Belle returned to the field station. Davian was excited to see Félix.

Davian: I missed you.

Félix: I missed you too.

Davian: Did you uncover any good stuff?

Félix: We did, and Belle found something that might be significant. I’ll have to clean it up to know for certain, but it seems promising.

Davian: That’s awesome. Where is Belle, by the way? I thought she came in with you.

Félix: She was right behind me, but she noticed a butterfly and went back out.

Davian: That kid and her butterfly obsession… She might end up becoming a biologist instead of an archaeologist.

Félix: She can do whatever makes her happiest.

Davian: Exactly. Anyway, I’m gonna run outside and see what she’s up to.

Félix: While you’re doing that, I’m going to unpack her artifact, and then I’m going to hop into the shower.

Davian: If you’re showering, maybe you can wait for me. Nothing says ‘welcome back’ like the things I can do to you in the shower.

Félix: Ooh… Well, my original intention was to get clean, but I could see myself getting a bit dirty as well.

Davian: Hold that thought, ‘cause we’re absolutely coming back to it.

Félix: Can I get a preview?

Davian: Yeah… you do need a shower.

Félix: *laughing* You know what? I’m not even offended.

Davian: Get clean, then get dirty. That’s the plan.

Félix: I concur.

Davian: Hey, kid. I missed you. How was the expedition?

Belle: It was fun! Except for Félix's cooking. And the bees. That wasn’t fun.

Davian: What bees?

Belle: I got swarmed by bees, but it wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. None of them stung me.

Davian: How can you be so calm about it? I’d be freaking out.

Belle: Not freaking out is how to keep yourself from getting stung. I was a little scared, but I tried to stay still like Félix said.

Davian: Man, I’d be running for my life. You definitely take after Félix when it comes to bugs and stuff. So brave.

Belle: It's all part of being an explorer.

Davian: Want some lemonade?

Belle: Yes, please!

Davian: So, tell me more about the excavation site. Félix says he thinks you found something important.

Belle: He thinks it might be a temple icon, but we have to get all the dirt off it to be sure. It's kind of a mess. But, guess what? If it turns out to be something important, Félix said he's going to put my name in the report because I was the one who actually uncovered it. And maybe in the museum they'll even put a sign on it like, 'Discovered by Belle Blanchet and Félix Blanchet'.

Davian: That'd be cool, having your name on a sign in the museum.

Belle: Yeah! None of my friends have their names on a sign in the museum.

Davian: The only one of your friends I can imagine having their name on a sign some day is Junior. One of those signs you have to hold at the police station when they take your mugshot.

Belle: *giggling* Junior's not that bad, Davian. You know he only does bad stuff so all his parents and step-parents and whoever will pay attention to him. He told me he doesn't like going to the trailer park with Dylan, but ever since his grandma and grandpa arranged for his real dad to get married again, he doesn't feel like he fits in at home either.

Davian: I can relate to that. Having a deadbeat parent isn't much fun, and when your favourite parent gets remarried, that's a struggle too.

Belle: At least Grandma Charmian never had any more kids after she married Papa Langston. Junior says it's weird to have a stepmom, and he really doesn't like having a sibling.

Davian: Auntie Chloë and I wouldn't have liked that either. We were thirteen and fourteen when Mom married Langston though, and I don't think she wanted to raise any more babies anyway.

Belle: That was lucky for you. And I'm lucky that I don't have a sibling and that you and Félix are gonna be together forever and that you always give me lots of attention.

Davian: Having you wasn't easy. You're like one of those rare treasures that you have to work really hard to get, and it becomes so important to you that you pour all your heart and soul into protecting it and admiring it and showing it off. Y'know what I mean?

Belle: That's your way of saying you love me, right?

Davian: Yeah, but I can say it the traditional way too.

Belle: I know, 'cause you say it to me and Félix all the time. Personally, I think you should have a talk with Junior's family and teach them how to say it, 'cause he needs to hear it more.

Davian: Maybe if the opportunity ever comes up, I will.

Belle: Okay. I'm going to play for a while, and maybe see what Indie and the other students are doing. Indie said she'd do something cute with my hair, and Natsuki promised to teach me how to use chopsticks.

Davian: Okay, but don't bother them if they're busy. Think about how you'd feel if you were in the middle of something and somebody interrupted you.

Belle: I know not to bother them if they're busy. If they're doing something else, I'll just ask when would be a better time for them to play with me.

Davian: Good. And while we're on the subject of playtime...

Belle: You and Félix want to have playtime? Don't worry. I won't interrupt you either. But you should try to be quiet in case you interrupt everybody else.

Davian: *laughing* Anybody ever tell you that you know way too much?

Hii!! so 2024 is right around the corner, happy new year yayay. Actually, if I think too much about it I think I'll start crying cause like what do you mean we're less than 42 hours from staring a new year?!! 2023 doesn't feel real tbh time in general doesn't feel real but yeah anyways I'll save that convo for another time. I'm here today to reflect on all the gifsets I've made throughout this year, which let me add, has been A LOT. I'm going to start by sharing some fun stats (yes renee I'm copying you <33), and then I'll do a fun top 5 of my fave gifsets, and to finish it off I'd also like to use this to shout out some of my fave people and creators on this hellsite cause you all made my 2023 so much better and I love you all for that <333

that one dnp gifset: I think most people know that I was and still am a big dan and phil fan, and that I spent most of my teenage years obsessing over them and giffing them and only them. Well, they went on hiatus and they stopped having a big impact on my life util they decided to come back and ruin my life again (in a good way). This gifset was the first time I giffed them since like idk 2019/2020, and it does mean a lot to me :') it's not really about the concept and the coloring, I chose this one to be apart of my top 5 for sentimental reasons, and I think that's valid.

give your friendships the magic you would give a romance: once again, sentimental reasons. when I read this quote on loveless it just spoke to me in so many levels. One of the things I love the most about heartstopper is the importance they give to friendship and I just had to make something that highlighted that and I think it turned out super good.

I think nellie loves him: well, now I think I snapped with this one akdhjahak I just love it so much. the coloring.. the heartstopper tv scenes with the heartstopper comic scenes, like chef's kiss, just perfect. of course this is not an original idea so I'd love to thank @rose-nobles for inspiring this gifset <33

mr. ajayi loves museum dates with his grumpy bf: and just like that we are back to sentimental reasons ahdhkas. well, this was one of the first gifsets I made when season two came out and it blew up. I've never had that many notes on a gifset, and honestly I think it's well deserved cause the coloring is good and I had finally just figured out how to sharpen gifs, so yeah love that for me.

I'm bi actually: I had so much fun making this one. the amount of bi coded elements and colors I included on this, I WAS ON A MISSION. the fact I made the font wobbly hsjgdjaka, I love love this gifset.

Overthinking: The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb

Fell off reading for a bit there but I'm back, baybeeeeee

The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb is Goosebumps #5, and maybe my favorite of the series so far. It offers a perfect blend of fun and fear, and has some of the most interesting characters yet. It also breaks the mold by taking the story out of the suburbs and into an exotic locale -- the Egyptian pyramids.

Readers may be disappointed that the mummy's have remarkably little screentime in the story. If you're waiting on that bandaged fellow on the cover to show up and start causing mayhem, you'll be disappointed. But what happens instead is arguably more chilling...

First, the Plot:

Gabe's parents are small business owners in the air conditioning business, and their work takes them all over the world. This time, they're headed to Egypt and Alexandria, and Gabe gets to tag along. He's excited about it because he is obsessed with mummies. He even has a mummy hand he bought at a garage sale, that he carries in his pocket as a good luck charm.

When they're called away early to business in Alexandria, he doesn't want to go (and cut the Egypt trip short) so after some cajoling they finally agree to let him stay under the care of his Uncle Ben, an archaeologist who's working on an excavation of a pyramid.

Unfortunately for Gabe, hanging out with Uncle Ben also means hanging out with Sari, his cousin, who one-ups him at everything. She's constantly pranking him, teasing him, and bragging about how much braver she is.

Together, they visit the dig site Uncle Ben is working at, and meet a few of the other scientists working on the crew, including a guy named Ahmed. (We'll get back to him in a minute.)

A few workers at Ben's dig site come down with a mysterious ailment, so he has to leave the kids at the hotel to deal with it. Sari goads Gabe into leaving and exploring a little, so they head to a nearby museum. There they bump into Ahmed, who tells them Ben sent him to pick them up. But he insists on taking them to his car instead of walking back to the hotel -- and then starts driving the wrong direction.

The kids realize they're being kidnapped and jump out, running lost through the streets of Cairo before finally making it back to the hotel. Ben arrives soon after and they tell him what happened. He's confused but alarmed, and decides to bring them back with him to the pyramid so they can stay close.

Unfortunately, if not unexpectedly, they swiftly get separated and Gabe ends up lost down in the maze-like catacombs under the pyramid. There he falls into a chamber filled with mummies, a bubbling tar pit, and a bunch of mummy-making tools. But these mummies look strange. They're standing at attention, propped up against the wall, sitting upright. And they look fresh.

Sari and Ben do show up to save him but not before Ahmed arrives and we learn that Ahmed is responsible for the mystery ailment of the other workers. This chamber belonged to a priestess 4,000 years ago, you see, and ever since his family line has been responsible for enforcing a curse on any who trespass. These mummies are all victims of the curse, and now Ahmed is going to mummify the rest of them -- alive.

After some tense negotiations and attempts to escape, Gabe in desperation holds up his good-luck-charm mummy hand and something very strange happens. Ahmed recognizes it immediately as belonging to the very same priestess. And then the mummies in the chamber come alive and chase Ahmed down. He flees from them...and then they return back to exactly where they had been. Did they even move at all?

Well, no matter, because Gabe, Sari, and Ben high-tail it out of there and enjoy a celebratory breakfast, just in time for Gabe's parents to come home. Probably best we don't tell them what we've been up to...

Overthinking It:

It's not a secret that R.L. Stine draws inspiration from the film and television his childhood. In this case, he's even borrowed a title. The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb is a 1964 Hammer production about a mummy who comes alive to wreak vengeance on the London exhibitioners for stealing important artifacts.

The Hammer film is just one of many mummy films produced in over a century of filmmaking. Some you're probably most familiar with include The Mummy, a 1932 Boris Karloff feature, and its 1999 remake starring Brendan Fraser. (By my count there are at least five films with the title The Mummy, of which only half are remakes, so...that's not confusing at all).

The best-known mummy features follow roughly the same blueprint: A group of archaeologists or egyptologists unearth a mummy, who is brought back to life and unleashes vengeance. (Frequently reincarnation is also involved)

In many ways, Stine's book follows a similar framework, but it takes an interesting diversion in that the core villain here is not a reanimated mummy but rather a flesh-and-blood modern human fanatic. Ahmed believes that he is righteous, and that righteousness extends to committing violence against children.

Ahmed, like his ancestral forebears, is responsible for "upholding" the curse. Now, I don't think that's generally how curses work. I feel like generally speaking curses are supposed to activate automatically and deliver karmic justice. But Ahmed takes an active, murderous role -- he has admitted to mummifying people while they're still alive and boiling them in hot tar, which is horrific. I'm pretty sure that's just vigilantism, not a curse. Which makes him actually a very interesting villain. Here for a change we have a Goosebumps villain with a clear motive (punish these kids for goofing off in the pyramid) and a coherent worldview (he is the descendant of a priestess and responsible for carrying out her will) and he's simultaneously sympathetic and terrible! You love to see it.

In the end, Gabe -- backed into a corner and desperate -- invokes the power of "the summoner," an inconspicuous mummy hand. Ahmed's instant recognition of the hand as a relic of his people might be a convenient plot point, or it could be a symbol of the depth of his fanatical delusion. When the mummies come to life to attack Ahmed, Gabe shuts his eyes against the violence...and when he opens them again, Ahmed has fled and the mummies are back where they started. It's clear that Gabe perceived this as real, and equally clear that Ahmed witnessed...something. It's not explicitly clear whether Sari and Ben witnessed the event the same way.

Did Gabe actually bring the mummies to life? Was it a spectral/ghostly resurrection that did not actually affect their bodies? Was the entire thing a vision? It's entirely plausible -- and I would say, supported by the text -- that the entire thing was an illusion, and Ahmed ultimately is defeated by the power of his own fanatical imagination. And that is actually...a pretty interesting twist.

I am not qualified to say how well or sensitively Stine handles the cultural aspects of this book. It's interesting that Gabe has Egyptian grandparents, and that his uncle is an archaeologist. This entire aspect of "relationship to heritage" is glossed over in this spooky kid's book, but it is interesting. Ahmed's "exact vengeance against colonizers" shtick is less interesting, because we've seen it before (see: every TV show with a Native American character, ever).

For me, what makes The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb such an enjoyable read is the strength of its characters. Invoking the competitive cousin as a character trope is a fun change of pace, and Gabe feels real and relatable. (he's a bit whiny at the beginning but I warmed up to him). He and Sari have a fun dynamic, and she's a pretty fun character with a bit of depth as well -- simultaneously good at everything but also deeply insecure.

Ben is a refreshingly good grown-up, maybe one of the best parental figures in a Goosebumps book yet. He drops the ball a few times, but he's doing his best for having an extra kid sprung on him unexpectedly in the middle of his work week. Most importantly, despite his skepticism, he believes the kids when they tell him about Ahmed, he tries multiple times to protect and defend them, and he knows when to get serious and stop joking around.

Mummy fiction is frequently about interrogating colonialism. They often do this clumsily and imperfectly, but they make an attempt. Stine's book pays only the most cursory lip service to that concept. We're not learning any deep lessons here about injustice, and the problematic aspects of delving for mummies are glossed over. But in this context, I don't mind so much.

Like I said, there have been a lot of mummy films. They vary in tone, with a lot of them being pretty comedic.

A lot of the most successful horror in The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb comes from being an outsider lost in a strange city where no one speaks your language and at least some of the locals would like to kidnap and murder you. If that's your jam, I'd direct you to Eli Roth's Hostel (with full acknowledgment of the absurdity of recommending Hostel on a Goosebumps post).

If it's wandering around lost in underground chambers filled with the dead and history that gets under your skin, visit the Paris catacombs in As Above, So Below.

For a fresh twist on the Ancient Egypt angle, try Stargate, which combines Ancient Egyptians with space and/or time travel. It's a trip.

I love knave verse, but I feel incredibly clueless when it comes to art. So, where would you recommend starting for someone that would just like to appreciate art more? Do you have a favourite artist? Are they the same?

Firstly, thank you so much. I'm so flattered you love knave-verse.

Secondly - art.

Okay, so first thing I'll say is don't get hung up on who or what you're supposed to like. The only thing that's important is if the art makes you feel something. Hi, yes, a lot of the things TK says are things that I think. (shocking! I know ;)

Second thing, art isn't just a thing that hangs on a wall - it's photography, and sculpture, and graffiti, and comics, and fans, and tea cups, and the things people wore, and the buildings they built. Art is everywhere around you. You don't have to go to a museum to see it or appreciate it.

Third thing, most major cities have an art museum (and so do most large universities), and most of them offer free entrance to the public either once a week or once a month - and if they don't try your local library to see if they have museum passes you can check out. Then - just go to a museum. Don't go with anything in particular in mind, just wander. Walk past the things that don't do anything for you, stop and read the placard on the things that snag your attention. Turn left when you see a color that grabs you.

Wander through all the different galleries. What turns me on isn't necessarily going to be be what turns you on - my parents like seascapes and 17th C Japanese screens a lot more than I do. I like Sargent and Islamic calligraphy more than they do. Rothko leaves me cold, but one of my best friends can spend hours looking at his work.

Google what museums are in your area. The big art museums will be survey museums - a little bit of everything. But, smaller museums will be specific. There's a museum to the history of the shoe in Toronto (it's amazing - if you're in Toronto you should go - the whole building is shaped like a shoe box!).

Fourth thing, try just scrolling through tags on tumblr marked for art, and follow people who post things you like.

I found the Urban lego thing on tumblr and Georgie Seccull was also a tumblr discovery, and I have never wanted to get on a plane to Australia more. I found Anila Quayyum Agha when I saw some of her art on display at a mall in Chicago and was immediately obsessed.

And, I think, lastly - if you're still reading - just have fun with it. Don't pressure yourself about it, just kind of relax into it. Art is personal, and there's no right or wrong answer.

We've spent a lot of time in a few different spots in CA, so hopefully, I mention one location near you! The obvious to all of this is beach and book. We are two beach bums when we can be, but I'll hit a few of the cities we've stayed at!

Oceanside is our go to. We like the location, due to military relations so its kind of the perfect spot for us because ✨️family✨️ If you are near that area, the beach at night is so quiet and perfect if you love seashell hunting. Oceanside also has street food/fair events, several cute metaphysical shops, and a few really good restaurants. One of them is a rooftop/desktop outdoor situation, it overlooks the docking area there, and at sunset is stunning.

In the San Diego area, I love going to Balboa Park. There's several gardens that are cheap or free to go to. During November to December, one of them is filled with gorgeous variations of poinsettias. There's also a ton of museums there, cultural houses to peep at, and gorgeous architecture. There's also a shopping area that's cute for giggles to just walk around. It's called Seaport Village. They used to have a shop just FILLED with coffee mugs. I loved it 😅

Heading north a little bit to LA where my partner is from. He grew up near skid row and has pretty vivid nightmares still about his kidhood there, so we tend to avoid the downtown area. When we do go, he always takes me to The Last Bookstore (some of you may recognize the name, it is the one you're thinking), it is just an experience. They sell antique books, collector's editions, and rare first editions along with new books. They have MAGICAL displays made from books. Griffith Park is also very beautiful with lots of things to go to. I'm a fan of anywhere with a botanic and butterfly garden 😅 and that brings me to our favorite spot in LA (minus the beach and hiking in Griffith Park) The Huntington Library. It's a library, botanic garden, and art museum all in one. It is 100% for me and not for him. He loves me dearly, and I am spoiled. There's obviously a lot of other things to do in LA (Disney, Orlando studios, ect), but we've been waiting to explore and experience those things until we had Littles to enjoy them with.

Popping between LA and San Fran is Sequoia National Park. If you are going to go and have never been, plan for a few days. It's... almost like breathtaking how small you realize you really are there.

San Francisco is kind of just... I wish I could describe it as something other than home feeling, considering I'm a midwest farm girl, but it has this magical home calling. We have a main thing we really like to do, and it's a little pricy (but not as pricy as the next location ive been treated to). He loves to see Alcatraz. 😅 he's obsessed. Otherwise it is a LOT of hiking and just trying new food places there. I just really love the vibes there for some reason.

Napa Valley I consider its own place, and it holds the most special place in my heart. He took me there for my 25th birthday. It is pricy, but wine country is so just relaxing. We stayed at this hotel, and we literally just walked out of our rooms patio door and into the vineyard. Im not 100% sure how much our week there was, but he told me not to expect anything for Christmas or valentines that year 😅

If you want really hot and in land Cali, my brothers and baby daddy went to Death Valley for a few days. They started the trip there, then went to Vegas (youngest brother's 21st birthday). My older brother said it was unbelievably hot (literally duh my sweet summer child), but he said the 4 days the 3 of them were there was a lot of fun. They did a lot of trail hiking and drank a lot of water. They all do not regret the choice to check it out. I was not invited on the boys' trip, so I didn't get to go 😑 I'm not salty AT ALL I didn't plan the trip for them or anything 🤣

If you're looking to get out of California, Colorado. Find your soul in Colorado. I highly recommend Georgetown. Not too far from Denver, not so high up in the mountains you have to anxious about snowfall and getting trapped, and I'll just attach the view from the hike into the mountains we went on.

I will push Colorado to anyone needing to get away and get into nature if it is in their budget ❤️ I've never found a town in Colorado I didn't think was stunning.

If you want to stay on the West Coast, Oregon. We went to Crater Lake National Park. One word, Ethereal. A little busy, but so so worth it.

No matter where you go, if you're getting into nature and needing to re-center your soul, find a creek with running water and just put your hands or feet in it, or get into the ocean (to where you're comfortable) and just let yourself have a moment of silence. Water is purifying and healing. It's one of the most powerful elements in our world, and it is where I find the strongest connection to Mother Nature ❤️

I love all the prep for the holidays the most—I am 100% a Christmas girlie, and some of my favorite holiday memories are playing Christmas music or a wonderfully terrible Netflix Christmas movie and goofily dancing around while decorating the house. I also love making Christmas cookies; growing up, my mom would make 20+ kinds, and it doesn’t feel like Christmas now if I haven’t made at least one kind. What about you, Santa?? What are your favorite parts of the holiday season?

And oh my god, I adore museums!! My best friend and I take each other on museum dates a few times a year, and I’ve seen so much incredible art this way. I always gravitate to either Impressionist and Expressionist paintings or to sculpture exhibits—I grew up running around a sculpture garden that was near our home and definitely credit that with my interest in sculpture now.

With the History of Egypt wing, it'd been all too easy to figure out what to do for it. Spending practically her whole live in Egypt, visiting every museum it had to offer, visiting other museums and their Egypt exhibits around the world, she's had her dream wing envisioned for so long. However, this was more or less something new for her, yet there were similar exhibits that she's witnessed in the past that helped her with her inspirations for the wing. He’s very good at it!! Just a little scary about it, like the entire rule book and schedule scary

You better be home by eight

Strict and takes being a househusband very seriously, everything will be tidy and exact

Sometimes he’ll ask Trey for a sweet recipe to surprise you with

Enjoys going grocery shopping with you because he can get work done while also spending time with you

Doing domestic things with you is a must, quick picnics, long walks, and visiting museums are some of his favorite things.

NOT the greatest choice considering he’s been living in a palace and is extremely lazy

Very much bare minimum

He likes to convince you to stay in bed and sleep with him instead of actually working

Sometimes he’ll just follow you around sticking his nose in whatever you’re doing just to be with you a little while

Occasionally he’ll be forced to babysit Cheka which he Isn’t all happy about, but he does like how you come home early so you can say hello

He gets quite bored at home when you leave and will nuzzle into your neck when you finally come back.

He’s used to working at a desk so he likes the new change of pace, when he finds out that household chores can’t be solved with a calculator he’s a little nervous, gets the hang of it pretty quickly though

He loves writing you little notes with his best ink and slipping them in your bag before you leave

Occasionally will invite Jade or Floyd for tea

And if you need any help with work he’ll be very good at that

Probably has one of those huge fish tanks and loves tending to the different types of fish obsessively

Gets way too excited about paying taxes

He’s spent so much time cleaning up Kalim’s messes he’s pretty much an expert

First aid, spells to repair broken china, unclogging toilets, he really knows it all

He’s very good at everything so he often picks up random hobbies to pursue, knitting, basketball, dancing and fun things like that to keep busy

He feels immensely grateful when you offer to help him though he probably won’t accept it he’s still glad you're there

Really enjoy's brushing and braiding your hair to look like his, it makes you matching!

He’s great at making sure your makeup looks perfect before you leave, and setting you a warm rose bath

He’s not great at cooking and cleaning though, whether it’s because he thinks he’s too good for it or that he accidentally set the kitchen on fire you’ll never know

He’ll drag you shopping on the weekends because that’s his favorite thing to do!

And if you're too busy he’ll take Epel or Rook
