What is Restimation and How to Become a Real Estate Pro
Have you ever wondered how real estate agents come up with those initial home value estimates? Or thought about pursuing a career in real estate yourself? Let’s peel back the curtain on home valuation technology, what is Restimation and how to join this rewarding industry.
Tumblr media
Restimation means making a new guess about something you already tried to estimate before. You do it when your first estimate turns out to be wrong or when something changes. For example, if you estimated how much a construction project would cost, but the prices went up. The goal is to get a better, more accurate estimate by looking at things again. You take into account new information that could affect timelines, budgets, resources, etc.
Getting Started as a Real Estate Agent
Many people consider real estate as a second career option but aren’t sure where to begin. At its core, work as a real estate agent is all about helping people buy and sell properties. If you’re a people person who loves homes and architecture, it may be the perfect field.
In most states, you need to take pre-licensing courses and pass an exam to work as a realtor. Many community colleges and real estate schools offer accredited courses online or in-person.
Look for brokerages that provide mentorship and training for new agents. Joining a team model can ease the transition by learning from experienced brokers before going fully solo.
As an agent, no two days are the same. You’ll meet with clients to understand their needs, research homes, host open houses, negotiate offers, and guide buyers and sellers through closings.
While rewarding, real estate also involves long hours and some uncertainty in commissions. Still, the flexibility and opportunity to run your own business appeals to many agents. It’s a job where no one day is ever the same.
How Agents Estimate Home Values
One of a real estate agent’s primary responsibilities is pricing homes accurately. This involves coming up with that initial estimated value range used when listing a home for sale.
To determine this, agents research recent comparable sales in the neighborhood. They factor in the home’s square footage, beds/baths, condition, and amenities. Local market conditions also come into play.
Driving by the home, the agent forms an initial opinion based on curb appeal. But they can’t account for renovations or unique interior finishes without an inside walkthrough.
This quick exterior valuation gives a ballpark figure to consult with the sellers on listing price. But it’s not an official appraisal. The final listing price may differ once the agent tours the inside.
The Next Stage in Home Valuation
New automated valuation models are revolutionizing this home pricing process for both agents and homeowners.
Powered by machine learning algorithms, these tools can generate an estimated home value range in seconds based solely on the property’s address. By crunching market data, public records and local trends, the technology produces a surprisingly accurate estimate without even seeing the home’s interior.
Agents can use these quick online tools to determine listing prices with sellers and provide buyers ballpark figures during home searches. Homeowners can get free estimates to gauge their home equity as well.
This emerging technology won’t replace appraisers or real estate agents entirely. But it does give instant preliminary pricing insight at your fingertips.
Whether you’re an aspiring real estate pro or already in the field, valuation technology is simplifying the home pricing process. So next time you’re curious about a home’s value, try out an automated estimate for a starting point!

How The FIRE Movement Leads To Early Retirement
Imagine waking up each day without the need to rush to work or being bound by the rigid schedule of a 9-to-5 job. Picture a life where you have the freedom to pursue your passions, travel the world, or simply relax without financial worries. It may sound like a distant dream, but it's a reality for many who have embraced the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement.
Tumblr media
The Path to Freedom

Mindful Saving and Investing
One of the pillars of FIRE is disciplined saving. FIRE enthusiasts are known for saving a significant portion of their income, often aiming for savings rates of 50% or more. They achieve this by cutting unnecessary expenses and prioritizing their financial goals.
Investing plays a crucial role in the FIRE journey. Rather than stashing all their savings in a bank account, FIRE adherents invest in stocks, bonds, real estate, and other income-generating assets. This allows their money to grow over time, compounding their wealth and accelerating their path to financial independence.
Frugal Living
Living frugally is a key component of the FIRE movement. FIRE practitioners are experts at distinguishing between needs and wants, prioritizing what truly adds value to their lives. They are not miserly but are thoughtful spenders who aim to maximize the utility of every dollar spent. This lifestyle shift not only helps them save more but also leads to a simpler and more intentional way of living.
Retirement, Not Inactivity
Retiring early does not mean a life of idleness. Many FIRE retirees continue to pursue their passions and even start new ventures or side projects. The difference is that they have the freedom to choose how they spend their time, unburdened by the necessity of a traditional job.
Achieving Financial Independence
So, how does the FIRE movement lead to early retirement? It all comes down to achieving financial independence, which means having enough savings and investments to cover your living expenses without the need for employment income. Once you reach this point, you are free to retire on your terms.

Conclusion
The FIRE movement is a proven pathway to financial independence and early retirement. By embracing mindful saving, strategic investing, and a frugal lifestyle, individuals can gain the freedom to shape their lives according to their aspirations and desires. Harare March 31 2023
Dear Friends,
It has been quite a long while now, and I thought that it would be important to update you on the latest, IMF is now urging us to plug the growing gap of a fund that provides interest free loans to the poorest countries
While it is a laudable initiative I have to say that it also provides not only the general shapes but indeed the full picture of the same now obsolete conception of world economy
It is not the poorest countries that need interest free loans, it is all of the countries including the developed countries,
While recession and inflation headlines litter the news both on newspapers and online and the media in general nobody seems to pay attention that the real issue is not recession, the real issue is not inflation either, the real issue is that most world currencies have lost their value, and so we have to put back value into currencies by strenghtening the economy
What is needed is a global investment fund, investing and not loans, through a Global Investment Initiative, that invests equally in countries, poor and rich, in real estate, infrastructures, and industry
How much of it would be needed, we have proposed a global envelope of 368TN USD through IIF in several rounds maybe 8 rounds of 46TN USD each over the next 8 decades, the goal being not to spend too much not to overheat the global economy, and not too little so that we see a real impact, conducive to achieving UN Millenium Goals
Cordially, etc, etc
And thank you
ps. Yes how, how did money lose its value, well in recent decades value has shifted from gold to things like consumer electronics, pricey smartphones which when you look at them they’re made of plastic and their real value is in their patents
Patents being intellectual property do not have by far the physical tangible wealth value of gold, or gold reserves, ie we have to go back to gold reserves and investment, not loans and smartphones
Also I think we should revise the term rich countries, these countries are not rich it is just a fraction of the population that is rich, and replace it by the more accurate notion of above and below poverty line
Poverty is a global phenomenon that requires a Global Investment Initiative, which funding should be straightforward we’ll see what we can propose through BPI within IIF, International Investment Fund
Cordially again
pps. It is one of those long letters, investments in real estate, infrastructures and industry, and globally, there’s many, many, large scale infrastructures projects that can dry the out of check liquidity in the global financial system, which too is an issue
I just hope that future generations will not look back on us and say, look they have been complaining about recession, inflation, and global warming rather than investing in things such as building the important global infrastructures that they lacked, and converting the global economy to renewables, creating value and jobs in the process meaning spending power
But it’s not too late things can still be fixed over the next 40 to 60 years with the right people

The NFT Ecosystem Is a Burnout Machine
When serial entrepreneur Wil Lee first heard about nonfungible tokens, after Mike Winkelmann (aka Beeple) sold one for more than $69 million at Christie’s in March 2021, he waved them off as a money-laundering scam. But after noticing that they were showing up on his radar again and again, he began to pay attention.
In June 2021, almost four years after he became involved in the crypto industry, Lee decided to buy his first NFT. Within a week, he had transferred his entire portfolio into the NFT ecosystem. Within a month, he had sold one of his real estate properties and moved all of the money from the sale into NFTs.
After spending a few months investing, Lee decided to launch his own NFT project, the littles. Like many other NFT creators, Lee was in charge of his entire project: the tech, the community, the art, and the marketing. “Every day I’m just on Discord, making sure that it has not been hacked and that everything is performing and okay and on schedule,” he said.
Despite taking as many precautions as possible, Lee found that it didn’t take long for his worst fears to become reality. During a giveaway, he realized that hackers had infiltrated his website: “I thought, is everything I’ve built for the past couple of months going to trash because of this exploit?” But the scariest part of this mishap wasn’t that he could lose everything—it was that it could hurt the people in his community who had put their faith and money in his project. “That was when I realized that this was going to be a rough ride,” Lee stated.
Although NFTs have been around since 2014, when artist Kevin McCoy minted the first-known NFT, Quantum, on the NameCoin blockchain, most people had no idea they existed until the high-profile sale by Beeple in 2021. Since then, multiple major brands from Taco Bell to Gucci have jumped on the bandwagon and released their own NFTs.
For many observers, the entire NFT industry is a pointless joke that has gone on for far too long. Activists have also heavily criticized NFTs because most are minted using the energy-intensive proof-of-work method. In February, the World Wildlife Fund U.K. ended its NFT sale following backlash from environmentalists.
For enthusiasts, though, the backlash is just noise—they believe NFTs offer major can’t-miss opportunities. The community, innovation, and investment market are seductive, but the space moves quickly, and watching other people rave about their success makes it easy to feel like time is running out and you’re being left behind. The pressure to move quickly (and the FOMO that comes with it), the way the ecosystem is set up, and the chance that the entire field of NFTs could all come crashing down at any moment is leading to collectors and creators pushing as hard as they can to succeed. But you can’t push yourself forever. Eventually, you begin to burn out.
Being in the NFT world, of course, means competing to buy NFTs. But to get even a chance of acquiring some of the most-sought-after ones, you have to get onto a project’s whitelist: a list of the people who get first dibs on NFTs, often for a cheaper price and sometimes even for free.
Getting onto a whitelist isn’t always easy, and every project has its own set of instructions users must follow in order to get whitelisted, like filling out a Google form, inviting people to a Discord community, or signing up to a lottery system that picks addresses at random.
Applying for a single whitelist can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to a few hours. While some people will only apply for projects they’re really excited about, other investors will apply for multiple whilelists per day. This process is referred to as “whitelist grinding,” and burnout often follows close behind.
Rita is an NFT collector and creator who is known online as __ritanevermind. During the worst stages of her lead-up to burnout, Rita stopped taking breaks so she could be more productive, and even began skipping meals. “Last time I had FOMO [that] led me to burnout, I was trying to get on the whitelist on one of the new NFT projects that are launching soon,” she told me. “I was logged in their Discord literally 24/7 for a week. I got whitelisted, but the [psychological] price was tremendous. My free time, my time for making art, my family time, everything was replaced with my phone. I slept on average four hours per night because I had to stay active there.”
Although Rita mostly enjoyed participating in the Discord channel and chatting with fellow community members, being on social media all day made her feel like she was missing out on real-life experiences. As a result, she ultimately decided to leave the channel: “I’m not there anymore because it’s not worth it. My life is not worth wasting on some Discord server to get a presale opportunity I’m not even sure I’ll buy.”
Many investors come into the space trying to flip NFTs for profit after reading success stories about other investors becoming “instant millionaires” by investing in the right projects. But while the stock market includes a blueprint of how to evaluate investments, NFT projects have no such thing. As a result, many investors resort to “going with their gut” when it comes to deciding which projects to invest in. This means that even for experienced investors, figuring out which project to invest in can be difficult.
Flur is a “whale investor” in the NFT space, which means he holds a large collection of NFTs. (“Whale investors” get their name because their movements within the NFT space can disturb the waters that smaller fish swim in.) Flur is well known within the community for having one of the best NFT collections; it currently includes more than 10,000 assets. His tweets have a reputation for driving people to new and upcoming projects.
However, despite his wealth of experience in the space, Flur still sometimes finds himself struggling with how quickly the space is moving. “The NFT community is experiencing exponential growth, which means nonstop new projects and information,” he said. “It’s very hard to keep up with, but the potential payout and the rewards are huge when it comes to catching the next big blue chip early.”
Many people decide to enter the NFT space when market confidence is high because they see others making a profit and want to get in on it. When Beeple made headlines in March 2021, the NFT market skyrocketed, and it has been volatile since then. Prices rose again in January of this year following an influx of celebrity collaborations, then slumped again sharply, reaching a low in March. Now, it looks like sales are on the up again—but how long this will last is anyone’s guess. That doesn’t stop people from making speculations: Last weekend, OpenSea—the largest NFT marketplace—set a new daily trading record of $476 million in Ethereum. A couple of days later, the Wall Street Journal reported that “the NFT market is collapsing.”
For founders bearing the weight of an entire community made up of thousands of new investors relying on their art to get rich, the responsibility can feel overwhelming. “The people and the investors within this space are very green, and they fall for anything and everything,” Lee said. “And once they buy into your project at a very high price and they don’t see action right away, or they see any type of misinformation, they panic and sell at a loss.”
Loopify is an NFT artist–turned-collector who founded Treeverse, an open-world fantasy in the metaverse. He also owns Interleave, an NFT production team. Thanks to NFTs, Loopify has become a millionaire. But that doesn’t mean he is immune to the stressors that come with being an NFT creator and investor. “Around a year ago, the market was stale for quite a bit,” he said. “This happens quite often when the price is down. Because the market slowed down, it means engagement slowed down. People stopped responding to my posts and less things were happening. My art wasn’t selling, nor were some of the things I collected.”
Loopify described this event as his “first burnout moment.” He began to question his involvement in the NFT community altogether. But just when he had begun to rethink his decisions, the market slowly began to recover, and engagement and sales returned.
Even when things are going well, it can be tricky to keep your investors and followers satisfied. Loopify said, “You have people that continuously ask questions on every social media [platform]. Even if you answer them a hundred times, they’ll keep coming.”
But not everyone chooses to return to the NFT space after taking some time away. For one anonymous NFT collector, it all became too much. “This space has become so toxic,” they told me. “People are saying WAGMI [“we are all gonna make it”—an acronym used widely within the crypto community] but that’s a baldfaced lie.”
They tell me that the NFT industry has changed significantly over the past year—and not in a good way: “So many devs mint then make promises and never deliver.” In the NFT world, “minting” digital assets is the process of uniquely publishing a token on the blockchain so others can publish it. This allows creators to monetize their work. “Or they take forever to do so, which in this space is a death sentence,” they continued, seemingly confirming the fears of many creators who told me they feel like they’re falling behind.
When I asked if they had any advice for newbies in the space trying not to burn out, they emphasized the highs and lows of the market and encouraged people not to panic and sell when prices are low.
But their final piece of advice fell along the same lines as the advice from everyone else that I spoke to: “Always put in real life first.”

Yoo, winky wink and I am here with a question, it’s not an ask per say…
So we know how baji's journey end and all but I wanna know your head canons in the au where he’s survive. Like, in the future where everyone is happy, will he go to university, or works after graduate from high school, What his job will be, his relationship with other toman founder and probably Takemittchi, etc.
You don’t have to write anything too detail. I am just curious how would you imagine it.
mmmm future baji good thoughts only i like this winky wink have some super quick hcs :)
Link to A Friend In Me
Masterlist
Baji's Future HCs: Yandere Platonic Toman AU
Tumblr media
in the Yandere Platonic Toman AU, I would say Baji's future would depend very heavily on what you decide to do long term
actually all of the founder's future would take your choice very heavily into consideration, but let's just focus on Baji
University
Baji's dream would be to open a vet clinic or a pet shop and run it with you and Kazutora, but of course where he eventually ends up depends on what he does in university
and university is almost a guarantee - both you and Baji's mum would definitely encourage him to further his education, so that is what he would most likely do
but if you want him to actually study hard and graduate, best if you make sure that you two attend the same university and the same course because he will spend on his time keeping a very close eye on you and whoever interacts with you
if you do attend the same university and course as him, tons and tons of study sessions, project work, and overall time spent together
would love if all the toman founders would choose to go to university together, but that may or may not be possible depending on your intervention and their high school grades
actually you might have to be the one to drag Baji over the graduation line because without you holding him back, he might have already been expelled for dragging one too many potential suitors behind the school's parking lot and beating them into a pulp
needless to say, almost everybody, professors included, give you and him a wide berth in the corridors
Job
in terms of job, would definitely prefer to have you somewhere close, or even better, by his side, so that he can continue to keep an eye on you on behalf of the Toman founders
being your boss had its perks as well - he could kick anyone who was making trouble for you, or at least seemed to be making trouble for you in his eyes
plus, if he does open his whole shop, Kazutora would be able to watch over you as well when he isn't free
two is better than one, and Baji would love to have one of the Toman founders watching his back and yours
if you ended up instead working for one of the other founders, maybe with Draken in his motorcycle workshop, or in Pah-chin's real estate company, Baji would breathe and sleep easier even if he does go through with his plans to open a vet clinic or pet shop
but if you want to try and make it on your own, and apply to various jobs, Baji will make sure that you, or your parents, pass him the list of every company you have applied to, and apply there himself
no way he would allow you to work in a foreign environment with strangers all by yourself
wouldn't hesitate to pull string and call in favors to either get him into the same company as you, or to get your acceptance revoked
you can cry it out on his shoulder for as long as you wanted, he'll be here for you
no problem climbing the corporate ladder quickly - this boy was extremely street smart, and knew how to get things done and people whipped
would use his authority to keep you near him and protected - colleagues beware
Relationship
Baji's relationship with the other Toman founders would be the best out of everyone - he's basically the one holding the gang together besides you
pops in to check up on them from time to time, no matter where they are or what they do for a living
he doesn't judge whatever path they've taken, as long as they still open the door for him when he comes knocking
helps you to deliver messages or even bento boxes if you request, and brings you to meet them whenever you want
make sure to make him a box as well - this poor boy just wants to eat your warm meals and be reminded of better, simpler times
definitely the one to obtain everybody's schedules, and organize get-togethers and dinners with your help
after all these years, none of the Toman founders still can say no to your pouty face or teary-eyed look
hmmm Takemitchi is a tough one actually - because depending on which future Takemitchi we are looking at, Baji may be on different relationship terms with him
will try to maintain a better relationship with him if he is loser-Takemitchi because he wouldn't be scared of losing you to him, plus he is still grateful that time when he intervened and save his life
but if Takemitchi becomes successful, expect a much colder reception, especially when you are around
even if he is already attached, Baji literally doesn't trust any other guy or girl around you
no one but the Toman founders
if you aren't, Baji relaxes a lot more, no issues with inviting Takemitchi in for food and a drink

Healthy Competition Transcript: 7/25/21
It's the entire thing so I hope this helps!
W: Hey.. Phil
P: Oh.. Hey
W: Hey, hey Phil how’s it going? How's It going man?
P: Oh, it's going, it's going alright.
W:I just thought I'd visit, Phil. I just thought you knew I would come and visit you. I haven’t seen you in awhile.
W: Phil I must confess I have come to you with a bit of a proposition. You into propositions Phil? Are you a proposition kind of guy?
P: Oh it depends depends, oh you, you’ve had some pretty lets just say not a great track record of propositions you’ve had in the past
W: I mean I’m trying to move past that. Listen Phil, I met Quackity after you kindly lent me your house, I went and met him, I met up with him, and I hadn't seen him in ages and it was nice, it felt good. He didn't seem afraid of me. Which is cool, not many people do. Phil, you don’t seem afraid of me?
P: No. No not at all
W: Good. Good because I’m not afraid of you. Uh.. Listen I met quackity and I hung out with him and I came to one conclusion about him and MY GOD the pricks resourceful aint he.
P: Yes.. he’s very.. he's one of the richest on the server at the minute. He's one of the richest people
W: What happened? What? You, you are telling me Quackity, the guy who made SWAG party, would be the richest man, geez I wouldn’t have believed you for a second but here we are.
But look, Phil, I am a bit of a propagator of the idea that capitalism shouldn’t be unchecked. You know the free market, maybe isn’t ever really that free you know. I am a bit into my interjection, you know the government interjection but there’s isn't a government anymore phi its anarchy it's pretty much what ah I see his name I see his name. (Ran boo)
P: Ha, Ha you see it
W: As much as I disagree with your opinions on anarchy. It's pretty harmless. I can’t hate you for it. I can’t hate you for literally living in a peaceful little village in the snow, I mean the server, it's never been this peaceful since the countries and nations and cities… So Phil I came to you with one question. Do you think quackity should be allowed to be left unchecked?
P: Uh no.
W: Do you think he should be allowed to grow? Oh you answered already. I agree with you Phil, I also don’t think quackity should be allowed to be left unchecked.
But you know what the problem is, there’s no Interpol, there’s no government, there’s no police force.. Technoblade spent this entire time taking down the establishment and what he's left with as predicted a POWER VACUUM for a new establishment to come in and this establishment is ahh ahh pretty unethical Phil its gambling, you a fan of gambling
P: Oh gods
W: This servers like 50% children Phil..
P: oh gods that's terrible.. yeah no that's awful.
W: ahh haha don’t sound too..
P: Gambling ruins peoples lives dude.
W: TRUE TRUE! And you know what He's getting away with , Phil. I have a proposition for you, I am glad you’re on my side and glad you agree with this Phil. I want to make a burger van.
P: Oh….
W I know when you heard of the burger van, you walked away. I get it. It's a bit of deja vu, but the difference is the burger van isnt gonna sell drugs. We are against toxic money making schemes now. We GENUINELY, genuinely selling burgers, I want to make burgers, I want to make every stake so it has a name. And. And uh (Wilbur re reads the book “Project Nevadas” Quackity left for him)
P: It definitely sounds better than the drug van,
W: yeah yeah yeah that's what I’m going to do Phil, but you see you need to understand I need someone to help me, because I’m not doing this for any reason outside of “I have an aspiration.. a goal in life to be a culinary expert” I want to be chef now Phil. I’m done now with being a President, being a government, being an authority, I want to be a burger man. I wanna sell burgers. That's my calling. That's been my calling all along. There's no ulterior motive behind this plan. I’ve got the real-estate, I’ve got the know-how and I’ve got the chutzpah (it's a yiddish word for guts basically woooo). Phil are you in?
P:I mean, ahh. You know I don’t know much about making burgers and burger vans, but I want to know who does?
W: Who?
P: Ranboo. He could help out.
W: what the fuck does he know about burgers?
P: he's literally the richest most knowledgeable person on the server besides me -
W: Phil you called - that's literally the second person you called the richest on the server. How does being rich climate him know about burgers?
P: Well you said you needed bread, you said you needed resources.. he has everything you could need.
W: What do you mean?
P: And also, he kinda knows… Right i'll be honest i'll be honest will, he's a little bit lonely, um there’s not much going on out here we are in a wilderness, a snowy blizzard wilderness right? Nothing goes on, nothing really happens here.
W: ha haha, sorry sorry. I didn’t mean to laugh at him being lonely. That shouldn’t of tickled me.
P: He needs something to keep him busy, to keep him occupied. He's done everything on the server, he's literally done everything. Give him, give him something else to do. Have fun.
W: I don’t want to. I genuinely don't want to. He's weird Phil. he's the weird neighbor kid.
P: oh STOP no stop!
W: Look at him he's that weird neighbor kid who's got something going on, you know maybe in the basement or something there’s something going on right.
P: he's harmless he's harmless
W: he's harmless now, give him a burger van and he might spatula me. Phil looks at me. Can you imagine a spatula through my skull? Huh?
P: That's not gonna happen. He’s very nice. Go make friends. Alright
W: All I need is a fire aspect sword, a bunch of cows, an anvil and some levels and we can do this Phil.
P: And he (ranboo) can give you all of those.
W: Oh my gosh stop making me play with the neighbor kids.
P: Alright stop I’m putting my foot down. If you don’t go play with them right now, I’m kicking you out of the house.
W: What the fuck?! What do you mean? Kicking? You can’t just kick- ohhhhh
P: I can and will.
W: Phil I’m ah…
P: Be nice. Go say hi, he's great. He's a great guy
W: Look Phil I trust you, I'll trust you this much, and I'll trust you that he's fine and he can help me, BUT if he's shit, you gotta come help. You gotta be burger boy with me.
P: I’ll be around, I'll be around, he's fine, you'll be fine, you guys will get along so well.
W: Thanks Phil…
P: You got this Wil, bye mate.
W: I don’t really want… What is this, why is he treating me like a kid? Like a little baby? Oh shit he's got cows…. Ah aH oh god I wasn’t built for this (gets attacked by a spider which he then crits the spider) There we go.. My man got cows. This bread as well?? No,it's not that he can farm apparently. Wait, that is bread. Wait… was that fire aspect? Is this a set up? I guess I'll befriend him… Knock knock - oh
R: woah oh
W: Hi Ranboo
R: Woah hello
W: You remember me?
R: Yeah I remember you. How are you? Its been awhile
W: It's been a little while, I mean we only met once, I mean I was just coming through visiting me pa, in his little cottage in the snow, very cute in the snow isn't it?
R: Yeah it is very nice
W: I just happened to notice you have a lot of cows.
R: Yeah! yeah I have a nice little cow farm, it's been pretty good for food recently so its been kind of yeah.
W: Can you hit one of them with your sword again please?
R: You want me to kill one?
W: Yeah quickly
R: yeah okay
W: Ranboo, I have a proposition for you
R: Yeah what’s that?
W: I know we have not got off on the best of terms but I'd like to think bygones be bygones let's bury the hatchet, let's be..
R: Yeah
W: Ranboo I’m gonna go out on a limb here, do you want to be friends?
R: S- Sure. I don’t see why not. You seem alright.
W: Cool cool. Thank you, thank you, you seem alright too. Can I come inside?
R: Oh yeah sure sure
W: I have a proposition for you.
R: Do you like my live laugh love sign?
W: Why is life capitalized?
R: it's the most important one
W: Ha, living is the most important one, living Is above laughing and loving?
R: Yeah it's priority number one honestly I just look at it when I wanna know what to do.
W: ha, okay, look look my proposition to you, um (looking at the ranboo rug)
R: Yeah its um it's my nice little rug here
W: We, we will talk in the hallway, my promotion to you ranboo was, as I have a dream of being a culinary chef.
R: Oh really! Thats nice
W: I’ve been doing a lot of things on this server. You know? President, terrorist, dead.
R: yeah that's one of them
W: I feel like the next progression is chef. Every, you know the saying….
R: okay…
W: All musicians wanna be comedians, and all dead terrorist presidents wanna be chefs. So I decided I wanna be a chef.
R: Okay! Okay.
W: I want to be a chef for no other reason than I like cooking okay?
R: Cool!
W: All I need though, is I don’t have much to my name. I have a lot of stones, I have some TnT, I have some stone tools, and a rabbit's foot.
R: Oh okay.
W: But I don’t have the cows, I don’t have the fire aspect sword, and I thought if you wanted to we could um you could we could be business partners. I’ve got the real-estate. I’ve got a great location. It’s gonna be bustling, with people eventually, there’s gonna be people coming and going, hungry too! They’re gonna be coming and going, in and out and in and out and we’ll be here
R: Yeah…
W: And get the money! We will get the money Ranboo.
R: I mean yeah sure I’ve been needing something to do, I’m down for that. That would be cool.
W: Cool, cool come with me. I gotta show you the real-estate.
R: I’m actually really glad
W: I see this as the blooming of a brilliant business relationship or a business partnership. Have you heard of Las Nevadas?
R: ohhh… yeah, yeah I remember I had an old, old cookie stand there awhile back that we just decided to abandon because it was just.. it was more just trouble.
W: A cookie stand?
R: It was more trouble than it was honestly worth.
W: Wait, you tried? You had a cookie stand?
R: I mean yeah….
W: Outside of Las Nevadas? So you did the cooking?
R: Yeah it was a little, yeah
W: Outside of Las Nevadas?
R: Yeah but then, but then, he the guy Quackity, he got all up in arms about it and everything because we decided to expand a little bit and then we just decided it was, it was too much troubles so then we kinda just, we kinda just left it so
W: So he didn't like it? He didn't like your selling of a cookie stand?
R: Yeah he didn't like it all too much. I don’t, I don’t know what it was but like it was just eh it was just more dumb conflict but eh ti was whwatever.
W: Well that's fine, that's fine because we’re Ranboo we’re not gonna annoy quackity… we can’t annoy him because we are simply put, gonna be making, I got the real-estate and he gave me the area and we are going to be making a competing business.
R: okay…
W: Because competition makes business flourish, the consumer.. Do you like the consumer? You’re a bit- a big fan of the consumer ranboo?
R: Yeah yeah, I consume things from time to time
W: Look Ranboo the consumer, the consumer is the one who does well when there is um conflict and competition right?
R: Yeah that makes sense
W: So what I want to do is make competition right? So I want to make competition so when Las Nevadas fully opens up and you can go gambling and stuff I want to make it so that people have options so people don't just have to eat at las Nevadas grills and such. So if they want they can come to our grill,
R: Yeah that's good
W: and the difference is that is that we will make our grill better than theirs and we will make lots of money and then quackity will be able to you know maybe have to make a deal with us and to maybe be our friend and and
R: But we are gonna do this respectfully right? We are gonna do something smaller and everything right?
W: Yeah I have the land and we can make it small and honestly there’s no reason for us to go further out then we need to because you know we got the location. So have you ever been in Las Nevadas or gambling Ranboo?
R: Well no, no one has actually been there when I’ve been there.
W: It’s very fun, gambling is very fun.
R: Ah
W: Gambling is what I would argue like the only reason to go to this Las Nevadas place, I mean there’s nothing else to do there
R: Okay…
W: Its like its ll that happens you know
R: Yeah just gambling
W: There's a strip club there Ranboo
R: OH yeah! For logs
W: You- you into strippers?
R: Um I mean all it just does is make the wood look different so it doesn’t really do much
W: It does make the wood look different. You’re right, you’re right Ranboo. Would you say you like Quackity? Sorry I’m really bombing you with questions right now - eh I just wanna, I want to pick your brain. I wanna know how Ranboo works.
R: Hmm no its okay its okay. I’m completely okay with it, yeah. Um I think that I, hes, I mean the thing is I just haven't seen him in so like long you know the last interaction with him I had was before the stuff that happened with everything else it's just kind of been I don't know, we were part of the same cabinet with New Lmanburg or whatever it was.
W: Cabniet…
R: Yeah Canbiet it was like…
W: A canbiet? Was this with Tubbo…?
R: Yeah yeah he had like me, Fundy, I was the minutes man and I wrote stuff down well they never checked my notes so I don’t know how useful my job was honestly. I don't know if they actually needed me but I was there.
W: Yeah yeah I know that. I know that feeling.
R: Yeah
W: So you were part of the old Lmaburg government? I didn’t know that actually.
R: Yeah, yeah
W: I thought you were a bit of an independent. I thought you were you know… so you would say you are friends with Quackity?
R: I mean yeah.. I mean I’m not really TOO much against him, but I mean yeah
W: Do you dislike anyone Ranboo?
R: Not.. too much I dont think. I mean there are other people I don't agree with of course but I think everyones just a product of what they have gone through and everything so if you understand that then you understand that, then you understand the person.
W: But don’t you think there’s sometimes allying yourself with everyone you know, it can actually make your life more complicated, more complex, more difficult…. more…
R: Yeah….. which is why I’ve kinda just went to live with Techno and Phil kind of away from everything. And try not to involve myself in that much. But then I just have a terrible radar of what is involving myself and what isn't so.
W: Right..
R: It's difficult sometimes.
W: It sounds like you set yourself up for a bit of a stressful, stressful life… So you don’t dislike anyone?
R: Yeah…
W: What about Dream?
R: Ummm yeah Well that's that. With Dream it's kind of like, all I’ve, all I’ve heard about Dream, all I’ve seen about Dream is just been the really bad things that he's done and everything so I would say I- I yeah I don’t really like Dream, but I mean he's also not really someone that it matters whether or not I like him because he's away in that prison for a very long time, so I mean, yeah.
W: With no trail.
R: Well I mean.. he… its
W: This is our competition Ranboo!
R: Oh!
W: Here's the competition
R: Okay. No ones really been here I dont think…
W: Can you even buy anything?
R: I don’t think they have half, half doors… they have
W: Smokers, Furnaces, they don't, it's just nothing
R: Huh.
W: It doesn't benefit the consumer Ranboo does it? Imagine you come here gambling.. First off the fucking door is shut
R: Mhm
W: Wait there’s a hole…
R: ohh… uh? that's interesting. I haven't been here in awhile, I just haven't been outside in awhile honestly.
W: Are we allowed… in?
R: I dont… I dont know.
W: It looks like crap Ranboo. Don't bother, it looks awful.
R: Oh, oh okay. Okay.
W: The point is this does not benefit the consumer right? This building does not benefit the consumer, it's just made to look pretty and make the consumer feel like.. lee do a test. I can promise you me ol, or should I say new pal, that this sign, I guarantee will not go. That will be here forever and that will never leave. (Signs that say “closed forever” “Quackity burger place is crap” “Go behind this building to better burgers'')
R: It's.. I don't know if abandoned is the right word, I don't know what you call it.
W: There we go, I guarantee these signs will stay there because they don’t care about the customer. They only care about looking cool and ooh ooh we got a restaurant, no they dont.
R: Yeah no one is really keeping it up.
W: Let me show you the real-estate. This is the best part, so come with me. Bah bum ba bum bum bum bum ba Oh ranboo, do you see the cock ranboo?
R: Oh that's what that is? I thought it was a clock actually
W: See that cock?
R: Yeah I see it.
W: That's our border. Well, technically, this wood is our border. This area.
R: Okay.
W: This area is ours. I’ve been trying to think of a name for it.
R: Hmm
W: I’m thinking about Paradise.
R: Paradice…
W: How’d you think about Paradise Ranboo?
R: Well I mean it could be good word play with the whole gambling thing.. pair of dice.
W: That is good.. you, you really are a smart cookie, a smart kind of guy.
R: Thank you!
W: Well, this is where I’ve been sort of working. So this is sort of where Tommy and I have been working. Tommy sadly couldn’t be here to help me, and um let me show you where I think we should make the burger van.
R: okay
W: Well I think it should be, it's to be close to the border so that people can access it and then get straight back to gambling. The customer, the customer, is happy, the customer gets their burgers and then goes straight back to gambling. How about we build it here, right here.
R: Right here? Okay that works. So what do you have in mind, you seem to have a vision.
W: 1950s… burger, retro. Red and white stripes.
R: Red and White okay, I have Blue?
W:Blue…
R: I have blue.
W: I’m not a big fan of Blue.
R: oh okay well I don’t really know where to get a lot of red.
W: Flowers… I can get you red. Ranboo you seem to be proficient, you can start building the van I’ll be back.
R: Alright..
W: Also, also give me your fire aspect, I’ll get the beef and then we can begin and we can get the bread.
R: okay uh here
W: Ran-orad, Ranaord? Ranord.
R: I name all my things with different puns. It's just Ran and sword
W: That's good, that's a good one, new friend, I like it. This isn't drawing any parallels to your cookie shop right? This is a completely different feeling?
R: yeah no the cookie shop I’m pretty sure, I don't even know if it was a cookie shop to begin with… because it was a little fortified if i'm entirely honest…
W: Fortified?
R: yeah did you not see like oh! That giant stone structure as you came in here and walked around
W: oH wait, that's a cookie shop?
R: Yeah
W: I thought it was like a, I thought it was like a palisade
R: no I mean tubbo told me it was for cookies but I’m thinking about it now..
W: oh tubbo.. tubbo.
R: I don’t think it was
W: See I like tubbo man, he's strong headed and he doesn't let people push him around.
R: Yeah yeah
W: Did you learn a lot? Did you learn a lot from him?
R: Maybe yeah, I also just, if people aren't willing to change their views or anything I find it unnecessary to mindlessly argue so.
W: So Ranboo you say this yet you show up in all the conflict. I’m not I’m not coming at you like judging you, I'm not one to talk about conflict.
R: Mhm mhm
W: But when I think of Ranboo I don't think of what a calm guy who’s neutral and stays out of everything, I don't think of Switzerland when I think of you ranboo, I think I think you're a bit more dynamic than that, why do you claim that you’re so peaceful and neutral and yet you appear in almost every conflict the server has had since I died.
R: I mean ah, that's because I’m bad at avoiding the thing that I don't like, which is, I don’t know it's it's weird. It's a weird situation that it's mostly my fault but I’ve been doing alright with it recently. I haven't been doing too much to anger people I don't think but I think it's just because I really want to help sometimes and sometimes I let my desire to help people get in the way of what I have previously said or previously claimed about myself.
W: Ranboo? Why did you come to help me?
R: Well because I think, well I need one I kind of need something to do and this is pretty fun, I like building little things and everything although they may not look too good and also I just think you can I think you are an alright person you know? So I kind of wanted to get off on a better foot from what happened before.
W: Why?
R: Just because I don't really like having the thought that people don't really like me.
W: No no not the bit about the right foot, why don’t you think I’m a bad person?
R: Well I mean I think you did bad things but you also went through things that made you that way and then I also think that you’re changed now. I mean if you ask me to talk to the older Wilbur before you died, for a little bit then yeah I would think you’re kind of not a good person.
But I think now you’ve apparently been away long enough, that I think if anyone goes away long enough for that long of a time that eventually they’ll have a thought of their morality, and everything and become a better person because of it. So, I'm hopeful. I’m hopeful. I like having a good amount of optimism.
W: Cool.. ah cool that's nice, thank you.
R: Yeah!
W: Uh, I think I needed to hear that, I’ve um, can I be real with you? Sorry Ranboo, you really got me. Fucking hell can I be real with you man?
R: Yeah sure.
W: I think I scare people.
R: I mean, yeah I do the same thing
W: No no, I mean I don't think I, I think a lot of people share your idea in trying to try… to keep me from hurting you know? They have seen what I can do and they don’t want me to do it again, so they adopt your emotion in order to do it.
Do you know I demolished his house and brutally ignored him? He fought for my country! And I ignored him. I didn't look at him. I didn't give him so much a medal, I didn't give him so much a rank, I gave him the lowest rank in the cabinet, and do you know what it took? Do you know what it took for him to forgive me? A “sorry” And I’ve, I’ve spoken to Tommy about Jack Manifold, and Jack Manifold is NOT the sort of person to forgive with a sorry.
Can you imagine if Dream said sorry to Jack Manifold? What has Dream done to Jack Manifold huh? Barely anything. I imagine if Dream said sorry to Jack Manifold, Jack Manifold would ignore him. Do you wanna know why? It’s because Dream is in prison, and I’m not. Dream! He's had his comeuppance and I’ve not! My comeuppance was apparently not good enough for these people, they are just waiting for the next thing, the next slip up and Ranboo I’m not gonna fucking slip up Ranboo. I’m different.
I’m not Dream, god I wish I was. Sometimes I wish I was. I wish I had that comeuppance. But Ranboo I’m not Dream and I’m not gonna be Dream and that's ahhh. I am living in eternal limbo again. I’ve been through limbo. I'm out of limbo and socially I’m still in limbo and man hearing you say those words that you said to me, do you remember what you said?
R: Yeah… I do?
W: You said “I think people can change” that's number one
R: Mhm
W: And number two you’re “scared if people don’t like you”
R: Yeah
W: I’ve been investing, I’ve been investing into the wrong areas Ranboo. I’ve been investing in the wrong people. Were kindred man, we get each other
R: Yeah, Yeah I’d say so.
W: We have SO much difference, but you know what the one thing we got incommon? Our strongest point? And you mustn't take offense to this, okay?
R:Okay..?
W: Neuroticism. Me and you are just as neurotic as each other. Just as nervous but the thing is it’s not our downfall you know? Anxiety isn't necessarily an evil trait to have. Anxiety is what kept our ancestors alive Ranboo.
R: Yeah
W: You? Me? Your Parents, whoever they may be, my parents, do you know how they’re alive? Because they were anxious. They didn't let another thing kill them, they didn't let another thing take them down. Our ancestors, the cavemen in the woods or the cave enderman, were anxious when they heard the lion roar; they were anxious when the wolf howled. And you know what they did? They went inside and they hid and that's what they did and that's why we are here today. Ranboo me and you are neurotic, and that's why we are alive..right now talking to each other and doing this.
R: Okay…… I really, I really do hope that's um a good thing.
W: Sorry, ha, that's uh that might have come across- I’m really sorry I meant um, I’ll go get you some more red.
R: No no I understand what you mean I think, we both are kind of thinkers I think well yeah, we tend to think about a lot of things. Think about a lot of situations and how people are affected by said situations. How we can make things better and although we may think in different ways the fact we both, I think we both think at the same level just in different ways sometimes.
W: I think you might be a bit braver than me and showing your true colors. I feel like, I feel like with you Ranboo I never have to guess your next move. I never have to guess your hand, you know?
R: Yeah
W: I feel like, I feel like life dealt us the same cards and the difference is you, you build your trust by showing people your cards whilst, I keep them close to my chest and I feel like that may be the difference. But I’m gonna stop psychoanalysing you so
R: heh
W: And let's… let's, Ranboo how’d you feel about thievery?
R: Oh uh ooh, what types? What do you-
W: I’m going to steal Las Nevadas cows to cook our burgers.
R: Oh oh okay?
W: And I’m not going to re-breed them. I am going to simply kill them.
R: Alright I mean, so you are? Are you gonna steal all of them? Or just
W: Nahh just enough so it's annoying ya know?
R: Okay um
W: Unless, how about this if this makes you feel a bit less uncomfortable about it how about if I steal all the cows unless they have a sign on them that says “these cows are property of las Nevadas” then I’ll leave them alone so unless they have an expressed sign that says “do not steal please” I’ll leave them alone. But if not… it seems like a good idea
R: Okay yeah
W: You’re really good a building vans
R: Oh thank you
W: I’m pretty good at building vans too.
R: Okay.
W: Okay I’ve got the steak.
R: Oh, nice
W: Pretty good, is that enough red for you?
R: I just need something to put the red on
W: Oh cool yeah, I can go find you some wool.
R: There could be some chests around. You know I found a full netherite block in one the other day?
W: Wait what?
R: There was just another netherite block in one of the chests, it was very interesting.
W: I’ve just restocked for us.
R: Ohh, nice I’ll put some of our building materials here. Oh wow, wait did you get, did you get all of them?
W: Yeah heh, pretty good yeah?
R: Oh geez.
….. [Talk about Minecraft mechanics]
W: So this is your cookie factory, your cookie shop, your giant fortress
R: Yeah you realize a lot now that it’s a giant fortress. Sometimes, sometimes I don’t realize things until they’re an afterthought.
W: How is Tubbo?
R: He's um, alright. I think he's doing pretty well.
W: What is he up to right now?
R: He's um he's just building around Snowchester you know? Not really doing-
W: Snowchester?
R: Oh you- don't know about snowchester? It’s basically just like this little- it used to have some people but then everyone just kind of went off on their own ways. It’s just like this little arctic area, a village he created.
W: A town?
R: Yeah basically!
W: So, Las Nevadas, Snowchester, - I thought Techno and Phil told me they were successful? Well just Phil I haven't spoken to Techno since, since, it happened.
R: Mhm Well it
W: Phil told me they were successful and there's no more nations and that there’s anarchy here.
R: Well it's not a nation it's literally just- it's literally just him.
W: What about this Kinoko Kingdom I keep reading about?
R: I have no idea. All they put down there was just signs and I havent heard anything about that honestly.
W: So there’s, there’s a lot going on Ranboo. What part do you play? Go on, You can't be THAT neutral, if you’re not a part of Kinoko Kingdom, then you must be a part of something.
R: I mean I guess you could say I’m a part of.. Snowchester a little bit? I think I’m mainly just um with Phil and Techno I’m pretty sure. It’s mainly, it's mainly just them and everything. Because that's pretty much where I’ve been living for awhile and all so.
W: And now the Paradise Burger Van.
R: And now the Burger Van I guess yeah.
W: Good, good! I’m coming back. Do you need more red or?
R: No, we got enough.
W: Then the final step is to name the burger and name the beef!
R: Name, name the beef?
W: Oh so another thing I wanted to do is to legitimize our burgers so it's not just stake right is to make a uh name for all our stakes so when they've had it you know our stake shop that they know this is our stake shop, and only the high grade beef. So we are all gonna name the burgers with an anvil and I wanted, I wanted to give them like versions and wanted to use an alt code so that no one could copy it. So it's like “hey you’ve got a volume one steak, burger steak” so people would come and it's sort of an NFT value to it. A bit of a you know, once you’ve had volume one of burgers then that's gone forever like versions, is this making sense? Are you following?
R: Yeah this is making sense, I’m following I think
W: Cool cool
R: Yeah
W: What do you think of calling the burger shop?
R: Hmm
W: I’m thinking of either Paradise or Wilburger?
R: Well Wilburger is funny
W: Wilburger is funny but it doesn't take into account the work you put in.
R: Hmm maybe paradise burgers might be good
W: What about Wilbooger?
R: Will- Wait a minute but then that means we have booger in it, and then they will make fun of it.
W: Yeah yeah, paradise burger has a meaning behind it. So like, you know paradise next to Las Nevadas. Have a think
R: Paradise…
W: Weeeeeeeeeeee, ding dong we got everything we need. Right, let me go to an anvil and think of a name. This has been good, this has been chill.
R: This has been nice
W: I feel like we are good business partners. I’m excited to show Tommy. What's your opinion on Tommy?
R: Oh he's great. Tommys awesome.
W: Agreed
R: Yeah. Definitely gone through a lot but I definitely think that has made him a good person.
W: Mmm yeah well you seem to think everyone going through something at least gives them some merit you said
R: Well I mean yeah. I mean if- if no one, the only really bad people are the ones who are just evil because, just because then they don't really have any reason why you know? Those are in my opinion the bad people.
W: Right
R: I don’t really think there’s that many bad people like that so yeah.
W: Let me find an alt code, I want to find a cool alt code for the Wilburger, let's go for a sunbeam
R: ooooh
W: This is sexy, what I've done. Here we go here we go The beef! The bread doesn't have to be named
R: yeah
W: It’s gonna be good. Here we go, here we go. Look at this!
R: Oooohhh thats cool
W: No ones copying that
R: Yeah especially the thing in the eye as well.
W: It's a watermark no one, no one can copy it now so we can sell those with one slice of bread on either side and that's our thing. That's our shtick.
R: Yeah I think thats good thats good
W: I think we are getting to the point Ranboo where we are almost done I mean I do have a question to ask you though
R: Yeah of course ask away.
W: Just gonna put the bread back. This is gonna be a make or break
R: Okay.
W: Come with me
R: Yeah
W: This really could be, could be a make or break. And what about the Wilburger Ran Van?
R: Oh thats good thats good
W: Cool cool, then we’ll have your name on as the co creator I won’t be ceo, I will be vice chairman of the wilburger ran-van corporation
R: Cool, awesome.
W: So here’s our completion ranboo you remember the signs?
R: Yeah? They are still there.
W: Yeah it's good innit? Ranboo I want you to smash the windows.
R: Smash the windows? Like how? How do you want me to do it?
W: Take this (gave ranboo a cobblestone block) hold it in your hand
R: Okay
W: Now break the window.
R: okay
W: More
R: Do more? Okay
W: A lot more
R: keep going? Oh uh oh
[Wilbur places down TNT in a corner of the competition restaurant]
R: Are you sure about that one?
W: Come here
R: Oh? Okay
W: You trust me alright?
R: Yeah?
W: Detonate that, its only in the corner to prove we are not fucking around
R: I mean it's just in the corner right and then it will, it will drop all the blocks
W: Yep
R: And then we can put it somewhere
W: We can put it in a chest next to it.
R: Okay.. ohh Careful! [Wilbur stood really close to the TNT so he took damage]
W: It’s alright
R: That was a little bit more than I thought
W: Picking up those blocks
R: Yep, I think we can just put them in the chests here I think.
W: Okay I’ll fill this in, you passed the test, good job man. You can go back to the van, I’ll be back there soon. Ranboo
R: Yeah?
W: I’m proud of you man. You, you’ve taken a side, you’ve proven you can choose a side and I’m proud of you.
R: Thank- Thank, thank you. I haven't-
W: You’ve got something to work for.
R: Yeah, yeah
W: I’ll see you around. I’m gonna head off after I fix this but you get to work on the Ranvan. See you soon.
R: Yeah I’ll get to work, see you soon, buh bye
W: see you soon man.
[Wilbur breaks one of the signs placed down from earlier then goes to the explosion site and writes a sign with the NFT symbol saying Wilbur + Ranboo Did this together and places a chest to put the exploded materials in a chest along with two diamonds]
W: ahh, I love that guy.

Searching for a home to share with your partner is one of the most fulfilling yet extremely stressful experiences. To prior discussion and awareness of the reciprocity of feelings you have for one another, a mutual agreement is conformed in the idea of wanting to invest in a space where you both can start anew, and begin a segment in your lives which in hope can progress until the very last breath. From being in a relationship with Damon for quite a significant amount of time - and having him inhabit my apartment for many a year - it was quite transparent that we had both worn out the flat, to the point that it was wearing us down. To be able to start fresh, in a new space, grants the ability of us to create the life that we had always manifested together - notwithstanding the fact that we had loved where we had lived at the time, it was simply the element of growth and the need for a change between our relationship. As you get older, mature more into your thirties, simple doings like getting drunk every friday night after a long, dragging day of work and intoxicating your body with countless shots of pure ethanol, losing all ability of processing any cognitive skill, becomes more of an impediment than going out to release the burden placed on your shoulders from the entire week of pure hindrance - and not to mention the hangovers. If we had perpetuated ourselves in the same routine that had been occupied as long as the decade induced in our twenties lasted, not only would it morph a lifestyle of monotonous sadness, but it leaves no ground for the chance to mature, the chance to experience all else that this world, this life can provide. It defeats the purpose of life, as existence is never steady; it is a continuous development between life stages, and an inevitability. To not accept the philosophy of life, proves a lack of purpose in your existence. Life is fleeting from the moment a baby opens its mouth for its first cry, and to distract one’s self from the thought of the end, we comply with life as it blossoms.
Me and Damon were visiting the second home that the real estate agent had been showing us. It was beautiful; a much larger space in comparison to the apartment we had in the heart of Camden - a place where the life of the party never comes to a halt, so getting to sleep was quite a challenge some nights, as well as it being an actual house. We decided upon the fact that we should search for houses instead of another apartment as we had endured living in a one-floor apartment for years on end, and to be able to have more space where you could rest your feet, not have clutter at every corner of the room, would be a dream. As I wandered around the upstairs floor, I walked into the master room, where I had found Damon standing, gazing out of the window which conveyed the most picturesque landscape of freshly cut grass, accompanied with the sun’s glisten to allow the richness of the green pigment to blossom even more. It felt like a stupor admiring the beauty that was portrayed forth, like an over emphasised memory from your childhood, in which every little thing seemed to be so enticing, full of pure feelings of euphoria, where there had been not a care in the world for anything except your own - merely just that significant moment that had been playing out. From the repetitive reminiscence towards those specific memories, things seem to feel a little more bright, full, happy, than it had been before, as if it was your mind toying with the fact that you may not feel as elated as you were when everything had been handed to you from unconditional love and care. “What do you think of it?” I asked Damon, as I sat myself on the mattress laid on the bed frame.
His figure didn’t move from his admiration of the nature. “It’s alright,” he mumbled, just audible, before stepping away from the window and turning to face me, his back now resting against the warm glass surface. He seemed quite uninterested with the house itself, which had happened with the house we visited beforehand. All he seemed to do was pull faces or rest on the couch after looking around a couple times. “Let’s go visit the last place, see if we get anything better.” A hint of annoyance had been laced in his words, confusing me slightly. I had the urge to question him, see if there was anything bothering him, or if he had begun to doubt wanting to get a house together. The simple thought had shattered my heart a little, as if it had been trodden on by accident, though accidental pain seems to hurt the most. Attempting to brush the everlasting thought away from my mind, I nodded slightly, getting up from the mattress and walking out of the room with him.
As we reached the last property, it had only seemed as if things had gotten progressively worse in Damon’s demeanour. He walked around the building alongside me, leaving snide comments here and there about specific things that didn’t appeal to him from the interior. However, the home that had been presented to us seemed almost perfect for the both of us, a place that was created out of the utmost creativity and affection for the right couple to walk in and begin their lives together. This home was illustrated to have your heart sink into the ground, seep into the mud underneath as if it were quick sand and completely engulf your mind with it, a hypnosis so intense that regardless of the pricing you would sign any form sent your way. By having been with Damon for the past couple years, I knew him more than a reasonable amount to understand that there had been something else causing him to project such a detest towards our property-searching the entire day. There was not a single flaw in the architecture, as if the residence had been created as a welcome to Eden’s garden subsequent to your soul’s departure, except it had been built in the wrong heaven. A single step in the building had your jaw cascading to the wooden flooring, your mouth empty yet so brimmed with compliments, mesmerisation aching to escape your throat, though you could not muster any form of ability since it had been utterly hushed by the constructions elegance that you didn’t want to damage any part from speaking, even in a mere whisper.
“What do you think of it?” I asked, my mind gaining déjà vu from the question I had repeated at every residence we had stepped forth into. We were wandering around the kitchen, which had an island separating it to the living room. It was a very large, open space, and the thought of not dividing rooms with brick walls, like the kitchen and living room, having them conjoined except separated with a countertop was very thoughtful. It removed the feeling of being trapped into such a small room, needing to wander through many doors twisting knobs and pushing the wooden frames in order to get into another corner of the premises, and made living much more free and easy. It's extremely draining by living in a space for many a year that it begins to close in on you, as if every single time you walked in it had gotten tighter, more smaller.
Turning my gaze to watch Damon wander around the living side of the room, I placed my hands on the countertop, sucking my cheek in as I attempted to think of something that may be bothering him, minus the stress of the entire house hunt we were doing today. Stress from work? Perhaps he got into an argument with a friend? Got up on the wrong side of bed? It was a pure mystery. My gaze was fixed on him until he connected eyes with me, a hand placed on his neck as his fingers grazed the back of it lightly, an attempt to relax himself. “It’s the nicest one we’ve visited,” he replied, walking over to me slowly, also scanning the large room as he did. “The amount of detail that went into designing this is mad.”
A small smile crept up on my lips as he stopped by the countertop, that now being the only thing in which dividing us at that point. “It’s perfect for us, don’t you think?” I asked quietly, admiring the craftwork that had been delicately carved into the ceiling.
“I think we should think over what we want before we make that decision,” he replied as our gazes matched once again. Looking up at him, a confused expression spread out on my face, but before I was able to speak up he had carried on. “Don’t take that the wrong way, but I don’t want us to rush into things and have us regretting something we could’ve easily thought of if we gave ourselves time.”
“We have spoken it out, haven’t we?” I questioned him, now taking a step back and folding my arms together. Everything about Damon today felt so off, the thought of him not wanting to share a place with me sinking into my thoughts again as I tried my hardest to battle it out of my mind. “You agreed that it was time for us to search for something new, together, and that’s what we’re doing, is it not?”
An exasperated sigh left his lips as he stared at the ground. At this point I had begun to get frustrated with his overall mood - this was supposed to be a fun experience together, but the feeling of him weighing the cons was more visible than his thought of the pros. “I don’t want to argue here, let’s just keep looking around.”
The build-up to the argument had seemingly debunked itself, at Damon’s command. Indeed, we carried on looking around, though this time I had decided to admire the place alone, which had been made very clear when I had pushed past him, not with much strength to cause damage, but enough to cause a point once I left the room. The upstairs floor was no different in beauty and elegance as the ground floor embodied. It would be a simple wonder to think how much time, dedication would be taken into creating such a masterpiece; it was so magnificent that you’d practically feel guilty for stepping foot inside. Glad I took my shoes off once I walked in, then.
After spending what seemed like all eternity having my eyes fixated on the embellishment surfaced all around, picturing what furniture would suit in far right corner, the middle of the room, what would hang on the wall, I headed to the ground floor, refreshing my memory of the delicacy that had been portrayed everywhere. My pace was slow, as if my mind was taking mental pictures of the palace to be able to look back in my memories for later, when me and Damon would discuss which place suited us the most. The market was quite tight at the minute, seemingly every person in the industry and in our lives growing up and deciding upon starting new chapters of their lives, which is why we were extremely lucky to be able to have such a place offered to us at the minute, surprising as it had not been taken by some conservative wanting to waste their money on a place where they probably wouldn’t walk inside. I saw the estate agent in the living room, who immediately made eye contact with me as I stepped into the room, a grin spreading out across her cheeks almost instantaneously. “Nice, right?”
“Oh, it’s absolutely beautiful,” I replied back, engaging myself in the ceiling’s artwork once again, thinking for a moment before choosing the right thing to reply. My thoughts had then been distracted from Damon’s footsteps heading towards the pair of us. He stood beside me as I gazed up at him, swallowing lightly before I knew what to say. “I think we’re going to head home and think about everything first, before we make any big decisions.” I added, my gaze never leaving Damon’s side profile.
“That’s completely alright, you have until the end of the week to make your decision, I’ll put this place on a reserve.” She replied, followed by our thanks as we walked out of the elegant building and headed home.
~~~
Me and Damon hardly spoke after we got home as I needed to finish up some work that was overdue from my job. Damon had nothing else planned for the rest of the night, so he stayed in the living room, providing no extra distraction for me to prevent any extra pressure or stress so I could be able to complete everything as quickly as possible. I overheard the television in the background, and the occasional phone ring, every call being for Damon it seemed as his deep voice followed after the repetitive rings of the phone line had come to an end. Oftentimes I envied his freedom due to his occupation being a musician, however a lot of the time his job seemed quite enclosing and tiring. Having to constantly be away from home, not being able to have an easy way of stability from the constant movement to a different country every couple of days, sometimes even every single day. Though, arriving in a new country every morning does seem quite fun.
After I had finished up all my work, I changed into my pyjamas and headed to the living room, welcoming me to the sight of Damon, who had now dozed off on the couch, his hair quite messy from shuffling around in the same spot, his skin illuminating a golden glow, courtesy to the warm light being omitted from the lampshade beside him. Part of me didn’t want to wake him due to how relaxed he looked, though I knew he would be more comfortable waking up on a mattress rather than an old leather couch. I turned the television off, quietly tiptoeing around his sleepy body, then crouched down slightly to shake Damon so he would wake up. “Come to bed, love.” I whispered, causing his eyelids to flutter open softly as he stretched his arms out unintentionally, conveying his exhaustion, a small smile spread out across his lips once he was greeted by me in his sight. Helping him get up, I allowed him to walk into our bedroom in front of me, turning the light off after we both left the room. There was no light on in the bedroom, except the shine of the moon seeping onto the bed covers due to the curtains never being shut. Once we both made ourselves comfortable under the duvet, we turned our bodies to look at one another's, Damon’s tired eyes evident due to the eyebags surrounding them, though he was more awake now after moving around a little. “I know you’re tired, but what was wrong with you today?” I asked quietly, regretting speaking as soon as the sentence had rolled off my tongue.
A large sigh escaped his throat before mustering a response towards my asking. “I’ll be honest, the houses were very nice, but I didn’t like any of them.”
“None of them? How come?” I replied, attempting not to raise my voice out of shock.
“Because I want to start this part of our lives with a house big enough for us to raise children,” he admitted, staring deeply into my eyes. “I want the perfect house for us, but I haven’t been able to find it at all, and it’s so frustrating.”
A grin spread across my face as I reached to embrace his face with both my hands. "Damon, it doesn't matter the style of the doors, how big the living room is, or whether there's two or three bathrooms," I began, allowing my thumbs to lightly graze over his cheeks. “What matters is enjoying our time together, and the lives that we'll lead together as parents, raising our children,” A large beam spread across his face from my reassurance, compelling me to give him a soft peck on the lips before carrying on. "If you can picture the house of your dreams, it isn't your dream house. Your dream house is something that you shouldn't be able to picture, something that you can't fixate upon in specific, because it carries such beauty that you will only know you have achieved, once you've got it."
“Does that apply to everything?” he asked, mumbling, his voice now soft as if the love of the moment had been seeping out of his mouth.
“I’d say so, yeah.”
“Then that means I’ve got the girl of my dreams.”
“Oh shut it you softie.”
“What? It’s true, love.”
“I can’t wait to start a family with you.” I mumbled absentmindedly, a light sigh leaving my mouth, repeating all that had just happened these past couple minutes.
“Likewise, darling,” he replied, bringing his lips to my face to kiss my temples gently, the feeling of his kiss lingering on the skin, my heart filled with pure elation and adoration for the man in front of me. “Spoke to your mum today.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, she called whilst you were doing your work so I just told her you were busy, then she decided on having a conversation with me instead,” he replied, taking a hold of my hand and playing with my fingers, his gaze focused on the action. “I love your mum.”
A laugh rumbled out of my throat. “You say that every time you speak to her.”
“Wow, I can’t believe I love your mum more than you do.” he jokingly replied.
“What?” I scoffed, a smile spread on my lips. “I never said that!”
“Well you certainly implied it.” he joked, raising his eyebrows as he awaited a response.
“Shut up, go to sleep.” I laughed, partly serious as the fatigue from all the walking we had done began to kick in my body.
“Only if you give me a kiss.”
“I just did!” I answered back, shifting my body so my back was to him.
“You’re the worst.” he replied, annoyance laced between his words, causing my smile to widen.
“Thanks, lovely.”
A Guide to the Best Arcades in the New York Metropolitan Area
I've lived in NYC my whole life and have been a gamer for about as long, unfortunately. I love going to arcades because you can have a great time alone, with friends, or with the intention of making a friend once you get there.
Some arcades are a transparent method of legalized gambling where the house always wins and you can only cash out in fun dip and finger traps. Some, however, are a tier above. This list is in no particular order, but all are excellent places to spend an hour or two.
Chinatown Fair
Famously the birthplace of the fighting game scene in New York, Chinatown Fair can be seen as a far cry from its days as featured in the 2015 documentary The Lost Arcade. Still, this is one of the best spots in the area for Dance Dance Revolution, as well as a rotating cast of machines that includes Pump It Up, Sound Voltex, JuBeat, and regular crowd pleasers like Guitar Hero, Crossy Road, and Mario Kart Arcade GP DX. I once saw a machine in there that had an actual water gun that you'd spray at a TV with zombies coming toward you and it smelled terrible, but I wish they still had it. A little cramped, very loud, and seemingly never as cool as it was when you were first there, it's always a fun time.
Yestercades
A chain of three free play arcades across New Jersey, Yestercades feels like the comfy game room of an eccentric millionaire child. It includes multiple stations with a wide selection of games and consoles to choose from, arcade machines kept in pristine condition (some retrofitted with modern displays, some retaining their original CRTs), and a wide selection of pinball machines. Plenty of the games are hard to come by (I'd never seen Sopranos pinball before!) and you could easily spend half the day trying them all out without getting tired of the place.
Round 1
The selections at Round 1 arcades are very samey from one location to another, and there's more chaff to be had than wheat, but where Round 1 excels is in its selection of imported rhythm games. For smaller arcades, it's simply impractical to have a Beatmania or Dancerush Stardom machine, but the real estate taken up by Round 1 is on a boggling scale compared to all the other locations listed, so they can afford to make the space. Other highlights at the Long Island location include Groove Coaster, Wacca, Project Diva, Chunithm, and most astonishingly, a Rhythm Tengoku arcade machine. Never thought I'd see one in person before visiting!
Barcade
All the machines in any Barcade feel especially precarious, but the wear put on them must be exceptional when they're placed in the middle of a series of busy bars. Despite this, the games feel less broken and more broken in. The selections at locations, by and large, remain identical and filled with the classics (you'll find Ms. Pac Man, Dig Dug, Crazy Taxi, and Q-Bert at virtually every location) but these are all games you'll be hard pressed to find at a Dave and Buster's or Chuck E Cheese, let alone all in the same establishment. There are locations in Jersey City, New Haven, and Philadelphia, but while I've spent many nights at the New Haven spot, I have a special liking for the Barcades across New York City. Highlights include The Simpsons at the St. Marks location, Bishi Bashi at the Chelsea location, and Rampage at the original Williamsburg location.
Brooklyn Games & Arcade
Of all the arcades listed, none feel more like a labor of love than Brooklyn Games & Arcade. A hybrid game store and free play arcade, you'll find rows of modded hardware and flash carts loaded with hundreds of games across multiple consoles, as well as OG arcade cabinets. Every time I visit, their selection widens vastly, and while the location draws in many looking specifically for fighting games, there is definitely something for everybody here.
Wonderville
If Barcade is rock and roll, Wonderville is harsh noise. Located in Bushwick, Wonderville has an entirely unique selection of one-off indie arcade cabinets you will not find anywhere else, with their crown jewel being the massive eight-player Killer Queen machine (practice a bit by playing Killer Queen Black at home). All the games feel exceptionally unique, both from each other and from any other game you may find in an arcade, thanks to the wide array of inputs you'll find on machines, be they dials, wheels, paddles, springs, or motion controls. The arcade is just one fraction of the fun at Wonderville, as the location is also a bar, music venue, and workshop house.
Dave and Buster's
Dave and Buster's has Dance Dance Revolution and a bar, and there is nothing else redeeming about it. The newly opened Brooklyn location tends to have shorter lines on the DDR machine, but half the fun is in hanging out with like-minded players just trying to grind out to get a little better. The machines may have two players, but to play DDR with another person is to play parallel to them, not against them. You are both playing against the same opponent, which is the brick wall of physical limitation. Go with the mentality that you bring to the gym, but be nice to the normies when they play in heels and miniskirts.
8 On The Break
A small and unassuming arcade and pool hall in Dunellen, NJ, 8 On The Break has a healthy dose of fighting and pinball games, as well as a treasure trove of imported rhythm games. The charm factor is multiplied by the fact that the machines take quarters, not cards, and there's a dining counter where they serve all sorts of fried goodies (try the mushrooms)! Standout machines include Step Maniax, Pop'n Music, and ReRave.
SSM21 Day 17: a gentle man
In which some titles are more accurate than others. Samurai-esque AU
It is common knowledge that for a noble title and a swath of land, her mother was sold to a warlord.
Haruno Sakura had the great misfortune of being born as the daughter of a destitute samurai family. Their master had long been vanquished and their lands long sold to make ends meet. And yet still longed for days yonder.
But her mother also had the great fortune of being born a beauty, so when the opportunity arose; a passing hegemon looking for a bride, Sakura’s parents took a chance.
They say that the young warlord was so mesmerized by her mother that he immediately accepted the terms of the expensive bride price and took her as his wife.
On their wedding day, mother was dressed in her finest robes while her father arrived late in a full suit of blood soaked armor.
The ceremony itself was a soleum affair. Her parents pledged themselves before the gods and swear to their union.
And so Haruno Sakura becomes Lady Uchiha no Sakura, the wife of Lord Uchiha no Madara.
----
Sarada has faint memories of her father; more often than not her father is sent to the battlefield and only returns a few days to weeks at a time between campaigns.
The Uchiha clan is one of the important noble families of the Konoha and known for its long history of bloodthirsty warriors. Her father is no exception.
Whenever he returns home, Sarada hides behind her mother’s skirt. Her father is an imposing demon-like man, larger than life, and taller than a mountain. Someone more suited for stories and legends than real life.
They call him a man more fearsome than Susanoo-no-Mikoto itself. So violent, so blood crazed, it is a wonder that Sakura lived as long as she did when a male heir had yet to be born.
Thankfully, it seems that as a daughter, her father pays very little attention to her. Whenever he returns from the borderlands between here and Oto, he barely spares her a glance.
However, whenever his eyes meet her mother’s through his helmet, he beckons her over.
“Sakura,” he commands, voice deep and low, “bring some tea to my quarters.”
Sarada always remembers her mother looking angry but determined then. Sakura dutifully follows her husband into the inner chambers. She doesn’t emerge until late morning.
Sarada is usually having lessons during this time, but one day she sneaks out of her etiquette classes to find her mother.
She searches almost the entire unusually empty manor before finding Sakura in the kitchen brewing tea. Her mother’s clothes are covered in blood and her hands are covering her tears.
Sarada has never seen her mother sob so terribly before.
From then on, she decides that her father must be an especially cruel man.
----
Whenever her father returns from war, her Papa also comes home.
Today she finds him on the engawa overlooking the gardens. He is sipping some tea while looking over some scrolls. He appears injured, bandages wrapped around his torso, but otherwise in good health.
If her father is the devil incarnate, then Sarada’s papa is a handsome devil.
No wonder her Mama is so taken with him. Sometimes when she is supposed to be asleep, she can hear her Mama fuss over Papa. They hold hands when no one is looking and share secrets no other soul knows.
Despite the cold manor they reside in, Mama is an affectionate woman at her core and her Papa is receptive to all she has to give.
And Papa must be someone important too; after all he is allowed to leave and enter from the inner quarters that a normal Uchiha foot soldier could not.
Sarada pads over to him, he looks up and beckons her closer.
“Have you been a good girl, little peanut?”
Sarada scoffs. “ I’m not a nut.” But she holds out her hands anyways.
Her Papa chuckles and pulls out some dried persimmons from his sleeves. “Don’t tell Sakura.”
Sarada smiles at their little secret before taking a bite. “What are you reading?” Her Papa allows her to climb onto his lap and drapes the scroll over her. Sarada squints, only understanding a fraction of the words on the paper. She points and reads aloud the characters she recognizes.
“Good girl.” He slips her another dried persimmon.
That is when her mother finds them.
“Sasuke-kun!” her mama enters the scene in a huff, “I told you to stop that, you’ll ruin her dinner.”
Sarada quickly shoves both persimmons into her mouth. Her papa has the decency to look sheepish.
“You can’t keep spoiling her like that! She is going to get an upset stomach!” Sakura continues.
“Do you want me to spoil you too?”
Her mama sputters, all red and flustered. Her hands move to cover her flaming cheeks.
Sarada meanwhile uses the distraction to hold out her hands for another treat. Her gentle papa instead leans down and kisses her forehead.
---
For the past year, her father and his retainers had been defending the borders between Oto and Konoha. After the dissenters were finally defeated, a grand celebration is held in her father’s honor.
She remembers that her father was hailed as the second coming of Madara, the legendary clan head from the distant past. The comparison is uncanny, both bloodthirsty and merciless but dauntless in the face of adversary. Soon it becomes her father’s mantle; Lord Uchiha no Madara, the slayer of the Orochi.
Sarada hadn't been invited to the banquet due to her age but that night she is much too excited to sleep. She has never seen so many people gathered in one place in her life. And even though her father’s presence makes her nervous, she loves the tales about his exploits.
The banquet hall is rowdy and the envoy’s drunken singing could be heard from down the halls. The fuzzy silhouettes of her father’s soldiers line the banquet hall, she has a hard time making out who is who. Everything is quite blurry even with the multiple lanterns.
The only one Sarada could identify for sure is her mother. Sakura’s features are distinct, like a lone flower against the night sky. Her mother sits obediently at the head of the table beside the man that is her father.
He has forsaken armor this time, but there is still a sword at his side. From the distance, her father doesn’t look particularly like he was enjoying the festivities.
He appears bored. Perhaps his blood is not used to peace, after all a beast belonged in the wild and a warrior to the battlefield.
Sakura every once and a while would refill her father’s sake cup or serve him more of the feast in front of him. Occasionally, when her mother would lean over and her father would whisper something into her ear.
Her mama would stiffen and her face would become strained. At first Sarada can’t make out the expression, until a small smile blooms on her mama’s visage.
Sarada goes to bed soon after, not quite understanding their interactions.
---
Her earliest memory of Papa is halfway past her fourth year.
Father had been back for a few days now, not that she had really seen him. And to be perfectly honest, her father is a scary man and she would rather not run into him.
But Sarada is also curious so she puts on a brave face and finds herself outside her mother’s quarters.
Peering through the crack in the paper screen door, Sarada spots her mother’s figure and a man she doesn’t recognize.
Her mama is leaning on the man’s shoulder while he serves her sake with his free hand. Back then, Sarada found it a strange role reversal that a man dressed in such luxurious robes was pouring her mama a drink.
Sarada has seen some men in her father’s army throw a tantrum when a pretty lady wouldn’t attend to them. Even Sakura during official functions knows to serve her father first before anyone else can even eat.
But this man sat with her mama so nonchalantly and closely, breaking tradition as if it was nothing!
Her shock was audible to where her mother and the man turned to see her crouched by the entryway.
Sarada felt as if she interrupted a private moment, but man’s expression morphed into something soft and Sakura giddily rushes over to pick her up.
“Sarada! Come, come! Papa is here, see?” Sakura hands her over the stranger’s awaiting arms. She doesn’t want to leave her mama’s embrace but the man’s is just as warm.
“Hello little peanut, have you been good while I was away?”
How is she supposed to answer him? She opts for a nod and reaches for the familiarity of her mother.
“Sasuke-kun…”
“It’s alright, she probably isn’t used to my face.” He leans over regardless and kisses her mother’s forehead. Then he looks Sarada straight in the eye. “I am you papa.”
Sarada thinks she likes this ‘Sasuke-kun,’ this Papa. Someone so kind to her mother can’t be a bad man.
----
As she gets older, Sarada becomes privy to the rumors about the current acting head of the Yamanaka clan. How her son looks nothing like her deceased husband but has the same eyes as the court painter.
And Sarada has her own theories about her mama and the man that is her papa.
She just hopes that her father never finds out.
---
Even though her mother is essentially the lady of the house, Sarada still hears whispers of her lineage. Even more so now that Sarada begins wearing glasses.
Before her father leaves for his next campaign, he gives Sakura his inkan.
As the wife of the lord, Sakura officially acts as his surrogate in any official business even if some of the family retainers aren’t happy about it.
Fortunately, many would rather swallow their pride that incur her father’s wrath.
All except one.
Uchiha no Shin, a rather minor branch clan member, always disapproved of her father and even more so now that he left his wife in charge of the estate in his absence.
It all comes to a head when Sakura denies him funding for a rather ill thought out building project.
“You dirty wench! ”
Sarada can hear the screams from her room. She rushes to the scene. Sakura is still standing her ground when she arrives.
“I don’t see any benefit in this strategy and I doubt my dear lord husband would either.”
“What do you know?! You are nothing but a plaything you stupid bitch, I’ll teach you some manners!” Shin chooses that moment to raise his hand at her mother.
Sarada feels the anger seep into her bones but her mother chooses that moment to retaliate and punch Shin square in the face herself.
Shin falls back unceremoniously. Sarada is slack jawed.
“How dare you!” he seethes. Shin tries to get up only for another person to rush to her mother’s aid.
Shin’s screams are agonizing and it takes Sarada a moment to realize that not only had her father returned, but he had drawn his sword and stabbed it clean through Shin’s arm, effectively pinning it to the tatami.
“Sasuke-kun!”
Sarada blinks once. Twice.
“Are you alright Sakura?” Her father, her papa asks, completely ignoring their screaming relative.
Sakura nods and he turns to her as well “Are you okay Sarada?” his voice deep and low but the same kind cadence up close as her beloved papa.
Suddenly her father’s mysterious and distant features that were always hazy to her meld with the papa in front of her now.
Sarada adjusts her glasses. She feels really stupid in that moment.
---
This time, Sarada is invited to the banquet.
It’s an annual harvest festival and her father is the guest of honor. The local leaders once again announce him as ‘Lord Uchiha no Madara’ much to his chagrin.
“I really hate when they call me that.” Sasuke tells them later when the food is being served and drinks are flowing freely. Sakura is on one side while Sarada is on the other. Habitually he is discreetly putting any sweets that make it his way and the tenderest pieces of meat onto their plates.
“Anata,” with time Sarada notices that her mother only ever uses this term in public when her father needed more placating than usual, “they are just just in awe of how great you are!”
“I wish they had chosen something different, Madara was such a pain in the ass.”
“Sasuke-kun!” Her mother tries to be scandalized but can’t help but devolve into a fit of giggles.
As her father continues to look on adoringly at his wife, Sarada can’t help but agree with him.
A name like that is unfitting of her gentle papa.
A/N: Happy Sasusaku month 2021! My brain is mush right now so excuse the multitude of grammatical errors. Thank you for reading!
And just to note in historical Japan, men tended to change their names depending on significant life events. For example, Minamoto no Yoshitsune's childhood name was Ushiwakamaru.
Hey I can't come up with something more coherent right now but: I think you're really cool! Thank you for sharing so much art and writing, I'm consistently impressed and often inspired by what you make.
Also! Do you have a post anywhere talking in detail about your day job? I don't know if I have the chops to get a spot making museum-quality replicas, but I'd really like to build on my sculpting skills and make more accurate replicas (starting with non-fossilized remains I have, since I can't very well mold/cast something I don't have access to of course). Do you have advice on materials or tools or techniques for making skeletal replicas? And/or any resources you know for learning such things? I don't mean to burden you with large requests, mostly I don't know where to start.
Hm. If that makes sense? I also ask because I'd love to hear about sort of what your trajectory looked like to get to your current job, or any recommendations you may have for people looking to get into similar fields (quite vague, sorry :/ ) and of course, how you like it! Hope you're enjoying life right now!
Sorry for such a long ask! And of course don't feel like you have to address everything (or anything hah), mostly wanted to send in some positivity! Thank you!
Second ask: Oh and of course the weird real estate posts are always funny, so thanks for those as well
Awww, thank you so much! I'm so glad you like my work.
So, everything about my day job is under the tag "Makin' Bones." I've done a few minor things about what it entails, but I'm happy to go into more detail! How I got into it, though, was that I saw a facebook post that they were hiring about a year and a half ago and thought "that sure sounds neat even if this is a kinda sketchy facebook post, I shall apply!" And I did. And I got the job. And now I make replica bones. Do I have a background in Paleontology? No! Do I have a background in molding and casting? No! I literally just followed a weird facebook post into the woods and HERE WE ARE.
Anyways.
Firstly, my business trains from scratch! I can't speak to other fossil replication places, but we're the top fossil replicators in the US so if we can train from scratch I don't see why anyone else couldn't. With that said, there's really not that many places in the US that JUST do fossil replicas. A lot of museums have a department for it, or a few people that happen to know how to do it on top of their main job, but very very few JUST do replicas like we do.
When it comes to physical sculpting we really don't do much except when we get the RARE life model commission (usually of fish, for whatever reason). What we DO do a lot of, however, is digital sculpting. Digital reconstruction is a rapidly growing part of our business. For example, here is a diagram of a mosasaur skull we recently did a digital reconstruction of to remove it from the surrounding stone and reconstruct it into its original shape since it got squished over time:
Tumblr media
The original skull was scanned using photogrametry and then the skull was extracted from the matrix and restored using Zbrush. So, if you want to get into the nitty gritty side of reconstructing fossils my advice is: learn Zbrush, learn photogrametry, and learn 3D printing.
Now, onto molding and casting. This is the biggest part of what we do. This process involves taking the original fossil (or a high quality 3D print of it made using the aforementioned techniques) and using high resolution silicone to create a cast of it. This cast is then filled using a two part liquid plastic (some large bones are rotated during this process, creating a plastic shell that is then filled with foam to cut down on weight). One the plastic sets the silicone mold is removed and a dremmel is used to trim off any excess plastic around the seams of the mold. From there the replica is assembled into its final pose on a custom welded metal support structure. Once this structure is complete the fossil is broken back down and painted. Once painting is complete the job is done and it is packed off and shipped to its new home!
So! If you want to get into this part of things I recommend looking into how silicone molding works. It takes a very good eye for forms and how liquids move to be able to make a good mold that fills properly, comes apart easily, and can be easily reuseable. Silicone molding isn't really the best "at home" project, though, as it is SUPER messy, hard to clean up, and you have to wear a respirator to be safe with it. I recommend looking for a local maker space in your area, or a local art group of some sort, just something that has an official space set up for that sort of thing. Barring that, you can also just use play-dough while you're first starting out. Find a bone, get some playdough and some quick set plaster, and just start pressing the playdough into bones, then pouring plaster into the cavity to see how your copies come out.
Other stuff that would be useful to learn: how to use a dremmel, general anatomy/how to recognize different bones, basic paleontology, and basic painting techniques like dry brushing and washes.
Hope this helps! Feel free to send me more asks if you have more questions.
Alternative districts for your fantasy RPG city:
Dragon Hill - This exclusive, gated community was constructed on what was thought to be a hill bearing an uncanny resemblance to a vast, sleeping dragon. Decades later, its name proved less poetic than intended when the dragon woke up. Now alert, the Dragon of the Hill -- having napped long enough for geography to accrete around it -- seems disinclined to move and accepts its situation with good humour, though it’s able to wield considerable influence over the city’s wealthiest citizens simply by threatening to stand up.
The Dungeon Quarter - When “adventurer” first became recognised as a legitimate profession, a few enterprising souls tried to cash in on the ensuing fad by constructing scale versions of various famous dungeons as tourist attractions. The project failed, as most humans found the faux-dungeons unpleasant to visit, but a new clientele soon emerged: actual monsters, keen on combining the conveniences of urban living with the comforts of home. Today the district’s centerpiece is a fully active volcano just thirty feet tall, inhabited by a family of ifrits.
The Hive - In spite of its disconcerting name, the Hive is a model neighbourhood, with perfectly clean streets and no poverty or crime. The trick, of course, is that it has only one true inhabitant, a sorcerous hive mind with bodies of all shapes and sizes. Strict population control and an ironclad policy of accepting new members only after rigorous vetting allows it to co-exist peaceably with the rest of the city; the total loss of individuality that residency entails notwithstanding, the waiting list to move into the Hive is over ten years long.
Old Twist Street - Owing to a magical accident some centuries past, this street is several times longer when measured from end to end than it appears on a map, and travelling far enough down it eventually brings one back to one’s starting point. Its relationship with the side-streets that connect to it is complex, to the point that using it as a shortcut is a good way to become hopelessly lost. Even so, its ample real estate has made it one of the city’s main commercial districts -- though most shoppers are careful to exit Old Twist Street the same way they entered it!
The Tombs - Named both for its graveyards and mausoleums and for its unusual infrastructure, each street in the Tombs has a vaulted tunnel running precisely parallel to it, creating a two-level street map: one level above the ground, and another below. Buildings in the Tombs thus have two front doors, one for each street level. Many dwellings are co-owned, with the lower storeys occupied mainly by those constitutionally averse to sunlight; this has given rise to the phrase “downstairs neighbour” as a polite euphemism for the free-willed undead.
