Anyone wonder about a The Substance (2024) au for svsss?

I'm thinking it could work for either Shen Jiu and a quasi Shen Yuan, or with Bingge and a quasi Bingmei, but I think being able to birth via your spine and some green medicinal goop (created by an underground black market company called The System, perhaps?) an "ideal" version of yourself and inhabit it for 7 days, but having to then return to your original body for 7 days, and having to both vicariously live through your ideal self, and then being haunted by them when you can't be them anymore until you feel forced to artificially manufacture a way to stay in your ideal self because you hate your real self to the point of wanting to kill them, but that in turn killing you, so you end up injecting yourself with too much Substance goop until you're unrecognizable to even yourself all in the name of escaping a world you feel unloved by...

Idk anyone think of this au yet? Highly recommend the original movie if you like plenty of horror, gore, and dissections of body dysmorphia that more or less leave you feeling like a changed person by the end (do check out the trigger warnings tho, it is a horror movie)

Post ur review after ur 3rd watch!! I’m on my 2nd and I’m still thinking on some things but I really did love many scenes!

THIS IS GOING TO BE ALL OVER THE PLACE SMH 

i think the last jedi was a movie that was uninterested in fan theories, it didn’t care about the fan fiction/message board posts/articles that were written for 2 straight years about characters that had little to no time to be fleshed out, how can you say a character is “out of character” when they were introduced briefly in one film and rather than exploring a backstory, the characters had to become heroes almost automatically, the journey they were on outweighed everything beyond “this is a storm trooper turned good, this is a resistance pilot this is an orphan and this is a darth vader wannabe” 

the force awakens raised all these questions we thought we were supposed to care about “who is snoke?” “who are rey’s parents” “is finn force sensitive” and then the last jedi came out and went WHO FUCKIN CARES like ??? we all spent 2 years trying to answer these questions that didn’t seem to matter much in canon and if you look beyond how mad you are about wasting your time you’ll see that rey is not impressive bc of who her parents are she’s impressive bc of who she is, you see that snoke is a distraction and kylo ren is the real villain of this trilogy, you see that finn doesn’t need to be force sensitive to be a hero and it doesn’t really matter if he is or if he isn’t bc the force belongs to the universe not a single person or group of people.

the last jedi is about how you need to learn from not only your victories but also your failures, poe wasn’t acting out of character, his character arc was literally meant to show a rebirth of the resistance, which is why the camera pans to his face as luke says it, luke said “being a legend” caused nothing but pain for himself and the galaxy bc he was blinded by it and so was everyone else, he turned the ultimate bad guy good and everyone just assumed that was the end of it all which is literally why the first order has been able to rise from then until now 

poe starts off the movie just wanting to be a hero and it got people killed, by the end of the movie he was instructing finn to stay back, to not rush into things balls 2 the wall bc sometimes, there’s a different way to go about things, leia said “haldo cares more about protecting the light than she does about being a hero” bc it’s meant to show that poe is going from “hotheaded fly boy” to the literal leader of the resistance “why are you looking at me, follow him”

finn and rose’s arc was the point of the whole god damn movie, failure and weakness are the greatest teachers like……. yoda’s force ghost literally said it out loud, sometimes even if you fail, you can inspire hope to other people, like the force sensitive kids who have to live on the casino planet, there’s hope in not giving up, there’s beauty in vengeance and physically fighting your boss, everything you do is a choice, finn broke programming and has become a resistance hero, rose’s sister died fighting for something she believed in so instead of rose becoming bitter and closed off, she refuses to give up on the resistance or the people apart of it that she cares about

i don’t think this movie attempted to make kylo more relatable i think it was the nail in the coffin for people who act like kylo didn’t have a choice in all of this, he chose this, he literally had 500 chances to be like “no this isn’t what i want” maybe he is conflicted but by the end of the last jedi we know where he stands he screams out that he’s gonna kill rey, end the resistance, and whatever else, he wants power and that’s what makes him a fleshed out villain which is something the story NEEDS since like … it’s star wars.. if there wasn’t a villain there wouldn’t be a story and i think people need to like remember this, the original trilogy is literally about luke trying to save his dad who is fucking darth vader, idk why people are like “why would rey DO THIS” ummmmm?????? hello the whole star wars universe is based on the RETURN of the JEDI . .u know the JEDI WHO WAS also darth vader smh 

LISTEN im not gonna take away from the way people felt about this movie, if you felt like it was x,y,z you’re allowed to feel that way, you are VALID in feeling that way but i felt like this movie worked, was it flawed? yeah of course, were some scenes paced weirdly? for sure, do i wish certain things happened while other things didn’t (blue milk) YEP do i wish more time was spent on poe and finn falling in love .... :) yea 

but what i got from the last jedi is that ,,,,, it’s a story about letting go of the past, good bad or indifferent, it’s a story about embracing who you are and fighting for a future, it’s a story about writing your OWN story and it doesn’t matter where you come from or who you come from, it’s all a choice, it’s a story about how change is hard and people dont even fuckin communicate and sometimes it doesn’t matter how much love u throw at a person, sometimes they just cant be saved bc they dont WANNA be 

i think this movie has been so divisive bc it was MEANT to be divisive change is hard, acceptance is also hard, THIS IS NOT GONNA GO THE WAY U PLANNED!!!!!!!!
