Folks in the notes saying that bookmarks are private info and why are people looking at them: they are private if you SET them to be private (not viewable by others), but bookmarks' primary function on AO3 is to publicly save fics for later/to recommend them to others! It's not creepy to look at them at all. In fact, browsing the bookmarks of an author whose work I enjoyed is my #1 method of finding new things to read. :D

#so far the folks I've encountered who have had 3k+ bookmarks are bookmarking literally everything they've read #I do believe that there are people out there where all 3k are recommendations though #just haven't encountered them myself #so in my experience so far 3k+ bookmarks is usually an immediate about-face #after filtering by 'recs' and by 'has comment'#(not both at once)#because I wanna see what people have to say about what they've read #(the vast majority of my bookmarks are recs with comments because they're stuff I wanna share with others!)#but I usually filter by fandom (if applicable) and then just go down the list #maybe filter by excluding a few tags if they seem to bookmark a bunch of things I specifically avoid #poll #ao3
