Discussing with Noro about the newest chapter and she wanted to precise exactly what is happening with the Helix:

The strength of the energy produced by people's helixes depends on how their fates lead them through through weal and woe. Innocence chooses those tossed the most by fate as "accommodators" and possesses them. They eat the "accommodators"' helixes and so have been turning them into offerings to the Heart." "Allen, if your helix and mine are mixed, it will generate a huge amount of energy. The Heart's body is still incomplete, so it should be too much for it to digest. It will probably vomit us back."

But yeah, beyond explaining So Much about how the story treats Innocence. The biggest points to me are how it's virtually the same idea as Dark Matter, but instead of forcing the Despair required and eating the dead soul away, it takes souls that naturally have the right degree of Fuckedness and eats juuuust enough to keep them alive and well, and two: that is until they disobey, Suman Dark not having a soul after becoming a Fallen One seems now simply the Innocence deciding to get all the energy out before discarding him
