ok ok so the idea of a camp au has been floating around in my head forever and at this point i just need to put pen to paper! now i’ve never been to camp so keep that in mind. and god only knows if this will become an actual fleshed out fic or a WIP that will collect dust in my drive forever-
anyways, it's called Camp Spruce Trails (get it, Spruce Trails, ST?) and I'm imagining this au is still set in the mid 80s, but none of the upside down stuff happens ya know? or maybe upside down stuff happens while they're at camp? but i'm kind of leaning towards letting these guys have a normal childhood-
the camp itself is your classic 6 week sleepaway camp, there’s canoeing, arts and crafts, knot tying, competitions, campfires, etc. going to camp is a borderline religious tradition for The Party and they will do everything in their power to make sure they attend. one of their favorite parts of camp, is the staff:
Argyle Franco: 17, Kitchen, he isn’t huge with the kids but Jonathan convinced him to apply for the job, fridays are always pizza nights, he keeps to himself usually but cheers on his favorite campers during their games
Robin Buckley: 18, Blue Cabin Counselor, frazzled 24/7 but trying her best, wears the handmade jewelry from her campers like it’s made of gold, knows all the camp songs by heart, cries when camp ends, no longer allowed in the kitchen after the incident of ‘84
Nancy Wheeler: 18, Yellow Cabin Counselor, by the books and her campers know that, but they still have fun, always excels in the art competitions (much to Billy’s dismay), she's the most strict counselor however she takes great pride in her ability to get all the campers in bed by lights out
Jonathan Byers: 18, Groundskeeper(?), no one really knows his exact job title, he just sort of shows up every summer and nobody says anything, he fixes leaky pipes, kitchen appliances, pulls weeds, whatever needs done, he helps out a lot in the art cabin though
Steve Harrington: 19, Green Cabin Counselor, mostly stable but the coffee rings stained into his clipboard are telling, tries to be the "cool counselor", and if you stay on his good side you’ll be fine, however he will not hesitate to drag your ass to the office and call your parents if you step out of line
Billy Hargrove: 19, Red Cabin Counselor, parents hate him, but his campers are loyal, they demolish every single athletic competition, stole Eddie’s whistle (now annoys everyone with it), also no longer allowed in the kitchen after the incident of '84
Eddie Munson: 20, Lifeguard, but he sort of pokes his head in wherever he pleases, was deemed unfit to be a camp counselor so they stuck him as lifeguard, plays guitar around the campfire at night, multiple writes up for smoking on the job
if i were to flesh this out more into a full au fic (or more realistically, a series of ficlets??) you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a giant love hexagon thing that will be going on as a subplot to the camp activities. i'm not even a huge multi-shipper or anything but picture it: Nancy asks Robin to watch her campers for a minute so she can go flirt with Jonathan? yeah sure why not. Nancy gets back and finds Robin sulking cause she's jealous? i'm sure Nancy would be happy to cheer Robin up with a kiss! Eddie and Argyle bump into each other smoking behind the shed? oh whoops my finger slipped and now they're shot gunning a joint. Steve find's Billy and Eddie chilling at Skull Rock? well shit now all three of 'em are making out a la Challengers.

Eduardo Franco Fan Project
Tumblr media
Hi, friends!
After watching Eduardo's reaction to people's concern about him not being in season 5, I realized just how important it is to show our favorites the love and appreciation they deserve.
I will be putting together a scrapbook of fan letters and art to give to Eduardo at his next US-based convention. While he does not currently have any convention appearances lined up, I want to start this project earlier rather than later so I can assemble the book once an appearance is announced.
Please send submissions to [email protected] as early as possible! If you have any questions, slide into the DMs.
Tagging interested people under the cut 💚

October 30 / 2023
Ross and Matt Duffer post a video of them preparing one of the scenes- Robin, Nancy, Joyce, El and Will are in it.
TRANSCRIPTION:
You probably have some sort of straight on with Joyce…we're seeing them kinda parading and then we'll probably have some rakes, you know? Yeah. But then we need to get to Will, though. Well, what, isn't it Joyce ???? Well, we'll start from Eleven and then, cause Eleven says ''There's not enough.''. Oh she says ''There's not enough.'' either ''too many'' what if we just pull back like, Eleven says '' There's too many'' and then we land on Will and he's looking nervous… and then we could zero-in on him like that… is that weird to pull and then move in. I don't think so.
November 26 / 2023

Okay, so I just saw that Eduardo Franco didn't get a callback. Either he's fucking with us or it's actually true and the Duffers had to make a decision to bring back Eddie or bring back Argyle. That kind of makes sense because it's the last season, and they've only got like 8 episodes, so they could add so many people. Only having 8 episodes for the last season doesn't make sense to me, though, because it's the last fucking season, one would think you would add a couple of episodes to give the show a proper goodbye and add as much people as you can. I swear if they kill Argyle off screen, I'm going to be pissed. At least have him go back to California.

are you boycotting/pirating Stranger Things?
in case you don't know, long story short, they're keeping two racist/zionist actors but fired Eduardo Franco who plays Argyle and is Mexican, plus they don't use any Michael Jackson songs despite being VERY popular in the 80s
I mean, a lot has been coming out about shows and movies that like. No new content is being made for? So like was I actively boycotting Stranger Things? No because I wasn’t watching it right now and there’s not a new season coming out any time soon (right?). I know that OFMD just got canceled and people are mad because people are trying to crowdfund a renewal and there’s a lot coming out about the creators being zionists and firing actors/actresses for supporting Palestine. Honestly the amount of media that is firing people for being pro-Palestine is wild compared to like. Idk. Sexual assault allegations or something.

Hello I'm not sure if it's just me but I can't seem to get your Eduardo Franco - Argyle gifs to work so I wanted to let you know
Hello, there! Thanks for looking out. I am aware, and I have fixed the problem. Not that you asked or maybe even care, but an image hosting website went down, so it left a bunch of us scrambling. All my gifs should be visible and usable now! Thanks again.

Eddie's character, whatever you may feel about him, was absolutely pointless to the plot.
You know who was actually useful in this shit show? Argyle. He also happens to be alive.
The Duffers knew they were going to kill off Eddie, and yet they made more Eddie merch anyway.
Argyle has next to no merch. And let's not forget the mistreatment of Eduardo Franco by the fandom.
Eddie's death was predictable. Not only that, it was lazy. This is what the Duffers do. They add new characters to neglect their main characters, only to kill off the newbies.
They didn't want to kill off any main characters, so they decided to attempt a half-assed connection between the new character and the main characters. Which was pointless because Dustin was the only character who actually acknowledged Eddie's death besides Wayne Munson. Not Mike, not Nancy, not Robin, and not Steve.
The whole friendship with Dustin and Eddie serves to make up for the fact that Eddie was a new character and was going to die anyway.
They didn't want to kill off the main ocs so they decided to create a connection with a new character over a short period of time and kill that character so that Dustin's tears can make up for the void of the loss.
Did I cry for Eddie's death? If I did, I think it was more due to Joe's acting and Dustin's crying, but it was an unnecessary death.
I knew it was coming. The Duffers' love for shock value deaths didn't work this time.
Eddie just... died. He put himself directly in harm's way.
Billy's character made other characters more interesting. Not the Duffers- Billy, which we didn't get, but Dacre Montgomery's Billy. We know more about him than we do the main characters. He's one of the only characters who doesn't stand there like a fucking npc. He's actually complex. He's vibrant and constantly reacting to his environment. He doesn't need to depend solely on other characters and their relationships to make up for what isn't there, because on his own, he's already well-rounded.
Billy's death, whether you like his character or not, actually served a purpose to the plot. He sacrificed himself to protect El and Max.
He was already in danger, and he had no choice. Other people's choices led him to his demise.
His death hitting hard didn't just rely on his connection to a main character.
El has been saving the Party's asses since s1. She's one of the reasons the others haven't died yet. And let's face it, some of them should've died (or stayed dead).
She's always there to save the day, and she wouldn't even be in s4 apart from flashbacks without Billy fucking Hargrove.

I love Stranger Things but HATE the fandom it dosent matter what social media platform you use most st fans are so far deluded with their own headcanons and annoying af. The way they treated Grace Van Dien, Eduardo Franco and their beloved Joseph Quinn is distusting. They harrased poor Grace over a ship that somehow threatned the golden child steddie sending the girl death threats and being evil bitches. They constantly ignore undermine and belittle Eduardo Franco who is hispanic. Making up lies about him trying to frame him as a racist and homophobe for no reason. They call him Argyle at fan events, tell him to get off the stage so they can see their fave, say he talks to much and treat him like shit calling him ugly when thats far from the truth. They love Joe Quinn yet they constantly invade his privacy dox him and harrass his family members treating him like a zoo animal for their entertainment. And dont even get me started on how they harrased Millie Bobby Brown for YEARS when she was a literal child! I know there are some great people in this fandom but ghe bad outweighs the good. At this point I dont even care about the show or fandom anymore I just stick to the jargyle side of the fandom where I have met some really cool people that arent total freaks.

ok as a latina this is really annoying me so listen to me for a second. argyle is mexican. eduardo franco is FULL mexican, as are both of his parents. stop saying "he's not mexican, he's native americ-" indigenous latinos exist, he is indigenous mexican. he's full mexican and therefore full latino. his name is literally eduardo, come on. don't erase his identity. i have had an ungodly amount of non latinos try and fight me on this on tiktok as if they're gonna know better than someone who is 100% latina. stop erasing latino representatio just because someone doesn't look like your stereotypical view of a latino. argyle is the ONLY latino rep we have on st, let us have him.

Let’s talk about Argyle.
Tumblr media
He’s one of the new characters introduced in S4 of Stranger Things. A lot, though not all, of his humor often revolves around pot, pot usage, and general stoner humor. That kind of humor isn’t really my thing, so a lot of the humor and jokes surrounding his character fall flat for me, personally, but his character still has some standout comedy moments (”Mopey Dick” will always get a chuckle out of me). I also think his character dynamic works well with Johnathan’s. They play off of each other well, and I appreciate that Argyle is able to, willingly, often tell Johnathan things he doesn’t want to hear, usually in regards to Nancy. His actor, Eduardo Franco, also does an excellent job portraying the character.
But I do wonder a bit about Argyle as a character. Currently, his character is still very one-note. He is basically just used for humor, as a character Johnathan can bounce off of, and as a plot device (he can drive and has a means to drive the California crew to places they need to go to, his character action is what allows Mike to figure out that Nina’s number was hidden inside the pen, etc.). But the series usually likes to use the characters as more than just plot devices and the characters often have something about their personalities or character development that is contrary to expectations (Steve the babysitter, Nancy being good with guns, etc.). We’ve seen this with Robin, and even with very new characters in S4 as well, like Eddie and even Chrissy (she doesn’t play into the “Mean Girl Cheerleader” stereotype and such).
So, I’m wondering if they have any plans to do more with Argyle’s character in this way. A thing that is pretty interesting to me is that we see his character actively listening to music this season. Characters that have been shown actively listening to music have all ended up as targets for Vecna or end up being connected to him in some way:
- Max always having her headphones on and being told to take them off in Episode 1 and, of course, everything else to do with “Running Up That Hill.”
- Fred and Nancy. They were listening to music in the car. It seemed like they just had the music playing for background noise. But Robin also points out Nancy’s music box when she is in Nancy’s room.
- Eleven, Mike, and Will all listen to music at the roller skating rink. Eleven has ties to Vecna, of course, and Will has experienced a lot of trauma in his past, while Mike seems to be struggling with some internal things as well this season. Many fans are expecting Mike and Will to have some kind of experience or encounter with Vecna when they return to Hawkins, as well (ST always has all of the different groups convene at the end, so I don’t think this season will be different).
- Eleven, during her time inside Nina, Brenner plays a classical sounding song in one scene when he talks to her directly within the memory she is experiencing.
And then, of course, we have Argyle, who is given a whole scene of very actively listening to a song as he drives the pizza van. It makes me wonder if Argyle is using pot as a way to self medicate. He seems very calm and cool, but that is likely because of the pot. In situations when he is more sobered up, he seems to be more anxious. It makes me wonder if there may be more going on with Argyle and if he may have some trauma he is trying to escape from as well.
There is a lot of potential for his character - a lot we still don’t really know about him, but not a lot of time left in this season. Especially when you think about all of the plot lines that still need to get wrapped up. From the brief Google search that I did, it seems like this season won’t be the last, so maybe it will just be touched upon this season, and explored more in the next?
Feel free to add more thoughts to this or anything you’ve noticed in particular about his character.

PERFECTION IN INFIDELITY
Tumblr media
@giuliettaluce @ardenrosegarden
"If William Shakespeare had been born in the countryside of Minas Gerais its quite possible that his "Romeo and Juliet" would come out just as Grupo Galpão presented it this weekend in the Praça do Espaço Cultural dos Correios, in the show conceived and directed by Gabriel Villela, who himself overflows with Minas Gerais's excence.
Of course, this staging is not a purist reading of Shakespeare's text, but it's great to see a montage in which the -say- infidelities are not the result of presumption, of wanting to be better than Shakespeare, but just a loving game in which the music, colour, plastic ingenuity and even childhood games like the "pernas de pau" are summoned to present to the public (who may not have any preparation as a theater spectator) the tragic story of the lovers of Verona.
The atmosphere is reminiscent, in many ways, of the group of artisans who present their play at the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", because Villela managed, with his conception of the show and the line given to the actors, to make the Grupo Galpão, which has been in existence for ten years and has had several history shows, manage to suggest exactly what Shakespeare expected his actors to do with the tragicomedy of "Piramus and Thisbe": to give us, with their competence and talent, the image of a inexperienced and untalented group that fights heroically to do the best they can.
In the case of this Romeo and Juliet, the entrance and exit parades immediately create the impression of a traveling troupe.
The scenography by Gabriel Villela himself - a large circle within which, just above the center, a funeral limousine, which has beside it or attached to it several planes and access routes to the platform that is on the roof of the car, serves as the main "stage" (apart from the plaza floor, of course) - suggests that the group must not be tied to any single location.
A group of mummers is also suggested by Luciana Buarque's excellent but appallingly poor costumes, which go well with the modesty of artificial flowers in vases devoid of any aesthetic value...
A rich songbook from Minas Gerais is crucial to winning over the audience’s involvement: there are traditional songs for all kinds of feelings, and there is a clear impression of justice in the fact that Romeo dedicates to Juliet the very consecrated “É a ti flor do Céu, que me refiro” . But in addition to music, other ways are used to bring the show closer to the street audience, the circus ways, which speak deeply even those for whom the small, naive and poor countryside circus is just a legend and no longer (unfortunately) a lived experience.
Another fascinating solution in the show is the mixture made between the Parnassianism of the translation by Onestaldo de Pennafort (very cut) with the flowery language of the narrator, as well as that of some lyrics of the songs (where the imaginative "estrelejou" appears!!!) forming a whole that transports the audience to a world as arbitrary as it is enchanting. And for the child of this world, of course, there is the effort of Grupo Galpão, so integrated with the universe conceived by the director that it would not be fair to single out another one of its members: Antônio Edson, Beto Franco, Chico Pelucio, Eduardo Moreira, Inês Peixoto, Julio Cesar Maciel, Rodolfo Vaz, Teuda Bara, Wanda Fernandes.
Not only does the ensemble performs well, but they all play instruments and sing - in addition, of course, to acrobatics. I have no doubt that Shakespeare will have seen many more totally correct stagings of several of his texts, but on the other hand I think he would understand very well the purpose of this one and would like to feel so beloved and treated with such intimacy."

I'm trying not to take this whole Eduardo Franco is not coming back so seriously because I know they like to fuck with us because I know that the Duffer brothers can't possibly be that stupid not to at least give him a call. Argyle deserves to be just as popular as Eddie. And as much as I love Eddie, he's definitely overhyped a lot. (A lot of that's probably because some of us are hyperfixated like I am.) But then again, maybe the Duffers are that stupid. I'm trying not to stress about it because I do not want egg on my face if Argyle does return. (And people need to stop saying that they'd replace Vickie with Argyle. They both deserve their own slot. That girl gets enough unnecessary hate as it is. They're both sunshine, and I can see them both being friends.)

Ficbits! Featuring 1968′s emotional disaster ocean!Paul. #1-3 are all part of same story as this #1 ficbit; this time focusing on the meeting Paul and John, together, had with Franco Zeffirelli in Apple in 1968 (i.e. after Romeo and Juliet had already been cast, shot, wrapped, and set for release). The whys and whats of this meeting are unknown, but it certainly makes for rich disastrous fodder for fanfiction.
#4 is just me being evil and having one of Paul’s dinners with Robert Fraser converge with one of Paul’s walks/drives to Abbey Road with John. For @ladyjaneasher, as all my Robert ficbits are.
1. “Well, I’m coming along,” John says. “It’s gonna affect the company and all of us if things go through and I should be there anyway. There should be somebody clear-minded in the room to see if he’s worth trusting, make sure he’s not taking advantage.”
He’s needling, really, but it’s the least Paul has coming for him, and at least it’s from someone who can be trusted. He’s almost hoping for the protest, the argument, hoping for Paul to ignite and sling them both into a barrage of hot words and insinuations, prove he cares, say some shit about Yoko for fuck’s sake, something. But Paul doesn’t even look at him, just stares up at the ceiling and hums a nothing song of assent, dissent, consent, nothing at all, a collapsible bloated thing in his armchair. And isn’t that the worst of it, the wisp of melody that rises even from the moors of Paul’s remoteness.
“Paul,” he calls.
“Oh, yeah,” Paul says absently. “Yeah, sure. Tell Derek to pencil it in.”
2. “You’ve grown your hair since we last saw each other,” Zeffirelli says to Paul, dripping approval, lusty with it. John hates him already. “It’s a shame we weren’t able to work it out together, for the film. Your hair would have been very fine for it.”
“What, is the film about warring salons now?” John asks.
“It is about love,” Zeffirelli says earnestly. “Captured love between young people. The long hair befits that youngness, that sun. Both of my actors are very much embodying of that.”
3. “He was never gonna give you any of that,” John says. “I’m telling you, General Franco, you really dodged a bullet. Have you seen our silver screen work? He can’t even play himself.”
4. He should be more surprised to see John’s Rolls parked outside the gate. For once, the fans scatter without fuss to let Paul’s mini through, allowing them to step out of the car no worse for wear. John is sitting on the front steps with an attaché case, a spectre in white, hair like a funeral veil, the last breaths of a cigarette wafting about him. He doesn’t know how long John’s been waiting; he doesn’t ask.
“Alright, Bob,” John says to him with no intonation, getting to his feet. He hands Paul some scattered sheets of looseleaf, a perfunctory intimacy. “Worked on something.”
“Yeah, great.” Paul tucks the papers under his arm and looks back at Robert. “Early night?”
“Phone calls,” Robert says. “A bit of business, a nightcap, then bed.”
“Heavenly.” Paul steps close to touch toes with Robert, a warm hand on Robert’s elbow, and kisses his cheek in the continental style: less a goodbye than a promise of future meeting. Paul’s way of things. John lingers somewhere off the point of Paul’s shoulder and watches it all, silent and radiating like a judgmental moon. “Thanks for dinner.”
“Until the next.”
Paul smiles and turns to look at John, then back at him, rubbing his eyes, overbright and weary. He looks intoxicated—with wine, with foreboding. “Well, to market, to market,” he says sleepily. “We’ll walk out with you. Fancy a walk, John?”
“Sure,” John says. He scratches his thigh with the butt of his case. “Got a toot on you by any chance, Bob?”
(As for something fic-related but not at all Beatles-related that I shill with some shame: this fic for The Social Network I wrote nearly ten years ago, which I recently read through again and didn’t entirely hate, which was both a surprise and a relief. I cleaned up the garbage HTML and shaved off the roughest edges, so - please read it if you’re at all interested in: barbed dialogue, scorned and passive-aggressive Eduardo Saverin, and insinuating asshole Sean Parker.)

Look who just woke up- is that EDUARDO FRANCO? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s ARGYLE from STRANGER THINGS. I heard he is 24 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, they still give off a HOTBOXED VAN, CHEECH & CHONG, PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA impression. They’re known to be quite LAID BACK, but have a tendency to be PANICKY on their bad days. (jas)
Welcome to 1925 – Argyle !! I hope you feel right at home here in Sydney. Before you get too comfortable and see what all our city has to offer, be sure to review our CHECKLIST. We’re so glad to have you with us, Jasper !!
