cherik thought of the month; their relationship is a constant exercise in trust. in first class, charles must trust that erik will pull himself back, erik must trust that charles will allow him his agency. erik fails charles in killing shaw and charles holds steady in his belief in erik by letting raven go with him [and we can talk about how his letting raven go was charles realizing that in trying to control the people around him—not even necessarily telepathically, but even just influencing them with the weight of his expectations—he only stifles their true nature but that's a post for another day]. and when he loses this trust that erik will know to pull himself back through his mishandling of the jfk situation, charles unravels, as shown in dofp: tired and angry and alone and blaming erik for it. saying he's a murderer and disbelieving of the fact that logan needed him there to save raven because he trusted erik with raven once already and look where that got her? ready to kill the president when she used to be his dear baby sister. charles' trust in erik is broken because charles trusted erik with a person so dear to him and erik responded by abandoning both of them and [in charles' eyes] twisting her into this killer charles never knew her to be. tldr i think raven and the way she changed after charles silently entrusted erik with her is a veryyyy important aspect in why charles and erik in the movieverse have this constant tension between them

Since my AU takes place a few years after the events in the actual game, I like to portray certain characters’ endings in character design rather than saying all the endings are canon.
