I feel like Darrys soc-ier personality and just overall maturity was actually an asset speaking with lawyers and social workers but the fact of what their house looks like/lack of money is another part of why nothing else except being a greaser matters to opinion. idk but how do you think the social worker meetings and court went down?

yup totallyyy agree!!! darry’s very much whip smart and knows the ways of the world and how class differences exist in tulsa and society at large and knows if he doesn’t act as socy - for lack of a better word - as possible he had no hope in hell at keeping these kids in his custody. like had it been dally bio related or darry with dally’s personality somehow he’d be COOKED bc dally dgaf about socs and wants to navigate the world his way, no matter what others say, vs darry who cares so explicitly about what people think and has probably always had issues fitting in. he knows the things to say and wear and do and that i think would’ve been exactly what gave him an edge in a nearly hopeless scenario.

i think Realistically the meetings would’ve gone something like in family court where they honestly Probably would’ve gotten taken by the state and put in foster care for some x amount of time but darry could’ve had a way in by blood for like visitations and possibly getting them back under tight reigns (court and social worker visitations and etc) and IF and ONLY if he proves he has a stable income and a stable house and they’re getting stable education and he can feed them whatever etc. like he would’ve had to have fought HARD hard for these kids which is why it’s all the more devastating that pony doesn’t recognize how much darry cares about him and how hard he’s fighting for him day in and day out. darry, as a poor man with no real credits and no family to lean on now, would’ve fought tooth and nail to keep them and even THEN…. the justice system fucking sucks and part of it unfortunately probably was just pure luck i fear. and also darry being newly to the day 20 does Not help either like that is not a grown adult thats basically a mf child still

then again it was the 60s in oklahoma and i only know how court and foster care occurs Now in my canadian province lol. possibly was less strict? ive seen several cases including in my family where children have been put back with unfit bio families sooo. who knows.
