i. accidentally did a leyendecker-ish study? i promise i started this just meaning to do a warm up doodle but alas. whole entire painting feat. the actual albany windows.

okay! so the new John Robb book goes into quite a lot of detail about the music scene in Manchester and about Oasis (the Rain) even before the Gallaghers joined. I'm barely halfway through the book and it reads like this (note this is the band the Rain BEFORE Liam and long before Noel. The band is Chris Hutton, Bonehead, Tony McCarroll and Guigsy at this point):

Needing a manager, they [the Rain] asked the former Smith [Andy Rourke, bassist for The Smiths] if there was anything he could do, and he said he was willing to help. Calling the band round to his house for a meeting, he said he had spoken to the late Mike Hinc who was the Smiths' gig agent and he was interested in having a listen. Andy said he was really keen to record a new demo of the band in his home studio. Thrilled, the band elected to record a song called 'Black', a darker piece, with music from Bonehead and lyrics from Guigsy reflecting on his melancholic side. The demo was recorded in 1991 on DAT (Digital Audio Tape) but with drum loops and samples because they could not fit Tony's [McCarroll] drum kit into the cellar of Andy's small house. During the session there was loose talk of extending the band's line-up to add some firepower to the sound. Apparently, Chris Hutton had suggested getting Noel Gallagher in on lead guitar. The band had a listen to the 1989 demos of his solo songs and didn't feel there was a fit and nixed the idea.
