Treehouse of Horror XIII Season 14 - Episode 1 | November 3, 2002 GULP... Season 14. Season 14 is when the show officially went digital, but the first handful of episodes are still cel animated, and I expected this was one of them. NO! This was one of the few episodes they did digitally before they made the full switch. The first was Radioactive Man (The Movie) all the way back in season 7, there was also Tennis the Menace in season, let’s say 12? and I guess this, which I never realized, damn. So, I guess I’m just plain out of cel-animated Halloween episodes. Damn, that sucks. This is also one of the few posthumous appearances of Maude, who shows up in the intro during a seance. They’ve done variations of this gag; Ned encounters Maude’s spirit but it turns out she’s in hell or the void or whatever. First segment is the best one, but upon rewatching it tonight I was a little “eh” on it. Homer Clones himself, which has a couple of funny gags in it, like the one pictured above. It doesn’t really come off like a horror story, except for I guess one of the clones beheads Ned Flanders, one of many Ned beheads in the series. The second segment is basically the bit about Lisa wishing for world peace from TOH2 mixed with the Zombie segment from TOH3. Gun violence is eradicated and evil men from history rise from the dead so they can take over the town with guns. Flimsy premise, not many laughs. The last segment is The Island of Dr. Moreau but with Dr. Hibbert turning Springfield people into animals on his private resort island. The joke is everyone likes being animal. It just kinda peters out after that. They cram in Kang and Kodos because tradition, and that’s that. Aside from a couple gags in the first segment this is a really unremarkable Treehouse of Horror, and that’s a let down because I thought it might be one of the last decent ones. Oh well.
