On the flipside, I don't think Kaveh understands Alhaitham's angst at all. Alhaitham emotionally shuts off for days, responding to Kaveh's repeated "hey are you alright?"s with a curt nod. Kaveh gets increasingly agitated bc it is Not Normal for Alhaitham to be this quiet. Eventually he gently pulls Alhaitham down to sit with him and stares into his eyes, "hey. I love you, ok? You can tell me if something's wrong. Or if you need anything. I love you, Alhaitham. Can I give you a hug?" And Alhaitham doesn't care either way (he feels pretty numb at the moment) but accepts the hug. Feels Kaveh's grip tighten and then relax as Kaveh sighs. And somehow that's what helps? This desperate, ineffective comfort? It's sweet. Maybe not so ineffective after all.
