"...I think you mean two," Octavius stated, smirking at the council member as his apprentices stepped into the doorway behind him, staring at the council member with grins similar to his own spells glowing at the ends of wands, fingertips, a couple knives, or staffs. "I didn't ask for or even want apprentices in the beginning. They just kept appearing and refused to leave even when I introduced them to fully available and capable wizards. I'm sure if you asked each of them individually, they'd all say the same, but at the moment, I'm afraid they've just perceived you as a threat. Children, spells out. He's just about to leave."
The council member stammered, caught off-guard by the array of apprentices, ranging from twelve to probably about nineteen in age, all prepared to defend their home and their mentor.
"Well- Well, you will have to register as an orphanage for the magically inclined if you're going to- to keep all of them as your apprentices." The councilor gulped loudly, stepping back. He almost fell down the stairs, caught by a well-timed spell from one of the children in the doorway.
"Thank you, Theron," Octavius thanked, offering the councilor a hand, which was awkwardly denied as the councilor fumbled to grab the handrail on Octavius' outdoor staircase in order to right himself. "Therein lies the issue. If I opened up an orphanage, it's highly likely that the housing conditions would only get worse with an influx of students and I am in no way equipped to be more of a teacher than I am now. I have my hands full with this bunch, and I'm about to graduate, what, four of you?"
"Five, dad," remarked one of the older teens.
"Right. Five. And two of you are already graduated and refuse to leave the house, ya gremlins. But thank you again for helping me teach the youguns." Octavius smiled in amusement, looking back to his horde of young magicians. He turned back to the councilor. "So, think I can't handle my flock? Or will you leave us to our devices?"
"Someone will be back here to ensure that your graduation tests are up to snuff," the councilor stated, righting his hat and fixing his robe. He picked up the discarded and broken pieces of his wand. "What date is your final test supposed to take place?"
"What date are we thinking, flock?" Octavius called, looking back at his kids.
There was a loud commotion as dates were discussed before they quieted again, and the youngest announced, "Summer solstice."
"Put that on the calendar and in my journal, someone," Octavius instructed, eyeing the councilor with a smirk. "Well, send whoever you want down by the solstice. That's when I'll be doing my tests and hopefully graduating five of the kiddos. Have a nice day, Phinneas."
With that, Octavius turned around and walked back inside his house, the door slamming shut behind him with a little more force than necessary.
"We have some work to do in order to impress the council and ensure they don't bother us ever again."
New idea engaged:
Octavius' House for Magically Advanced Children
"you know you are only supposed to have 1 apprentice maybe 2 not 15." said the wizard council member "well until people stop leaving surprisingly powerful orphans at my doorstep I'll be taking care of my 17 apprentices." The council member snapped their wand "WHERE DID YOU GET 3 MORE!"

"Alright, try some of this."
Ellie set down her spiked hot chocolate on your kitchen counter and stood to take the spoon from your hand. She blew on the soup before sampling a small taste and vigorously nodding her head.
"That's fucking amazing, we should make that a regular item."
You grinned and tossed the spoon in your sink before maneuvering around her to reach the spice rack. Your new house was just a two-bedroom ranch and the small kitchen took some getting used to, but you finally made the rented space feel like home. Although when you and Ellie occasionally found yourselves crammed in your kitchen to test some new products for the food truck, you couldn't help but long for the beautiful kitchen you used to have.
"I think I'll add this and take off the turkey chili, it doesn't do too well," you said before turning to your fridge and scribbling something on the white board. It was close to Christmas and you had already introduced your cold-weather menu for the food truck, but you were always actively looking to make tweaks where it was needed.
"Sarah really likes the chili," Ellie reminded you.
"I'll make her a big batch and divide it up so she can freeze it when she goes back to school."
"Is she helping out on the truck tomorrow?" Ellie asked before picking her hot chocolate back up, then she wandered over to your living room to examine some ornaments on your tree.
"Yeah, she's helping all day. Joel's gonna get a kick out of seeing her on the truck for the first time," you laughed. You checked the time and turned off the burners before lifting the huge pot of soup with a grunt and setting it on an unused side of the stove to cool. Joel and Tommy's crew were working on a retail storefront and you had promised to stop by with the truck for lunch the following day. You had figured it was in a busy part of town and you were hoping to also capitalize on all the holiday shoppers.
Chicks 'n Chicken specialized in, well, chicken, as the name implied, but when the weather turned colder, you realized sandwiches just wouldn't cut it for the winter, so you began to add soups and stews to pair with your signature sandwiches like The Ellie, The Sarah, and The Joel. It was the first big idea you had when you finally took the plunge and started a food truck: every sandwich was named after someone important to you, including sandwiches named after Mia and Daniel.
At first, it was hard. Really fucking hard. Harder than you expected. There was so much to do behind the scenes: bookkeeping, inspections, keeping the truck and your machines up to code just to name a few. Joel was a huge help with the business side of things and you were eternally grateful for his insight. In return, you let him be your taste-tester, a job he adored and took very seriously.
Once you got the boring stuff out of the way, things got much better. You hired Ellie to assist you, and even her girlfriend Dina worked part-time. The two of them painted the truck these gorgeous, vibrant colors and helped you design the menu, and before you knew it, you were up and running.
The first couple weeks were slow and steady. You didn't expect to make much right off the bat, but you would have been lying if you said you weren't slightly disappointed you didn't do more business.
But then Sarah and Ellie came to the rescue, and your entire world changed.
They had clued you in to the latest social media app and helped you create an account. They must have been avid users because they always knew what was trending, which is how you managed to create a video that went viral overnight. It was the three of you doing some silly dance to a song you had never heard before inside the truck. When you watched it, you cringed and begged them to delete it, but they promised it would be a hit. And boy, were they right.
Just a few months later, you were closing in on one million followers. The girls kept your page fresh and relevant and if you were a lesser person, you might have been a little put out that your marketing degree essentially became useless when competing with two girls in their twenties who were apparently chronically online.
But you absolutely loved it. You were beyond thrilled you had been so unexpectedly successful so quickly. It was the best gift you could ever have received, and you told them so every time they pestered you for Christmas gift ideas.
"Your parents coming up for Christmas?" Ellie asked when she spotted a framed picture you had of them next to your couch.
"Uh... my mom is, yeah," you said, dusting your hands on the sides of your jeans as you moved around your kitchen. Ellie picked up on the tone in your voice and swiveled around.
"But not your dad?"
You shook your head and pulled out the biggest Tupperware containers you could find.
"No. He's not thrilled with some of the choices I've made," you told her, keeping your gaze focused on your work so she wouldn't see the hurt in your eyes.
"The food truck or Joel?"
You cleared your throat and shrugged. "Both. He thinks I'm investing Daniel's money in something where I'll end up failing and he is not okay with Joel being a few years younger than him."
"Shit. I'm sorry," Ellie said softly, joining you back in the kitchen. "That's fucked. But at least your mom sounds cool, right?"
"Well, she's coming around to it. It'll be her first time meeting Joel and I'm really hoping once she sees us together and how great he is, she can report back to my dad and maybe change his mind."
"Ha, no pressure, right?" she laughed. You grinned and finally turned to face her.
"You know what? I'm starting to not even care. Is that bad?" you asked with a guilty look on your face. But before she could answer, you continued. "I mean, I'm happy. I'm successful. Joel and Sarah are amazing. Should I even care if they agree with my choices or not? I'm an adult. I don't want to ruin my relationship with my parents but I'm not willing to sacrifice my own happiness for it."
"Hell yeah, man," Ellie said while toasting you with her hot chocolate. "You got the right headspace. Therapy is doing you good."
"Yeah, surprisingly, it kind of is," you said with a chuckle. An alarm went off on your phone and you glanced at it curiously before your eyes widened in panic. "Shit! I promised Joel I'd be over for dinner, I gotta clean up and get the hell out of here." You snatched your apron off and then your eyes locked onto the huge vat of piping hot soup on your stove.
"I'll handle it. Go!" Ellie said, waving her hands. "I'll lock up before I leave."
"Are you sure?" you asked, but you were already backing out of the kitchen.
"Absolutely. I'll watch some movie or something while I wait. Dina's working at the bookstore til ten, anyway."
"You're the greatest, Ellie, thank you!" you called over your shoulder as you disappeared into your bedroom to change.
Tumblr media
"How is it you look prettier every time I see you?"
You giggled when Joel's scruffy beard scraped against the side of your neck, then melted into his arms when they circled around you from behind.
"Did you know you left the oven on? You're lucky you didn't burn the place down," you teased, tilting your head to give his lips better access.
"I was just takin' a quick shower, I knew there was plenty of time left."
He wasn't wrong. The lasagna he made still needed fifteen more minutes. Joel had actually gotten a lot better at cooking over the last few months. He liked to give you all the credit since he spent so much time watching you in the kitchen test new dishes for the food truck.
"And look at that," he murmured when he glanced at the timer. "Still got extra time. Any idea what we should do?"
"Are you looking to get dessert before dinner?" you asked, feigning shock. Joel chuckled against your throat before pressing himself against your ass and - shit, he wasn't joking.
"Been almost a week," he groaned against your ear. "Missed you so fuckin' much
"I missed you, too," you whispered before twisting around in his arms. You pressed your lips eagerly against his, getting lost in the familiar way you fit together. Whenever you were with Joel, your soul felt at peace. Everything seemed to make sense again and any stress faded away. But those things were difficult to explain to your parents without sounding insane, so you stopped trying, perfectly content with keeping the happiness he provided just between the two of you.
You blamed your weak resolve on the fact you had a stressful few days without him, craving the comfort only he could provide. That was why you found yourself less than five minutes later straddling his lap on the couch with your jeans abandoned somewhere on the floor behind you. Joel didn't even take his pants off all the way. He had shoved them down to his knees in a frenzy, desperate to feel you again after a long week.
The air stilled when you sunk down on his cock, the both of you too caught up in the feeling to remember to breathe.
"Oh, baby," he breathed, head tipping back to rest against the back of the couch. "Oh, that's it. That's my girl. There you go," he whispered, eyes glued to the way he disappeared inside you. You shifted and a small whimper slipped past your lips, pulling his gaze back up to you.
"How is that? Feel good?" he asked while circling his arms around your waist. You hummed and nodded before you started to move a little in his lap. You went slow at first while sharing deep, messy kisses. The hair from his beard burned your chin when he pried your mouth open wider, tongues swirling together amongst shared moans.
His big hands spread wide over your ribs, holding you against him to feel as close as possible while you slowly rocked your hips. He finally gave you a chance to breathe and broke the kiss, but then his mouth trailed down your throat and you held your breath anyway when his teeth grazed against the sensitive spot he made a mental note of last time.
"Missed you," he reminded you again as his lips ghosted over your collarbone. "Missed this. Missed feelin' this close to you."
"I know," you gasped, hands grabbing at his shoulders when he mouthed at your breast through your shirt. You started to move faster, encouraged by the delicious sting from his bite. "Fuck, Joel, do that again. Please," you whined.
He smirked and did the same playful bite to your other breast, cock twitching inside you when a low moan slipped past your lips.
"You like that?" he pressed. He loved it when you lost yourself in the moment, too engulfed with pleasure to hold yourself back. When he had you like that, you had no trouble asking for what you wanted. Your polite little filter vanished and you allow yourself to be selfish, to take what you want to make yourself feel good, and his chest puffed with pride every single time that you would choose him to be vulnerable with. You chose him to seek out everything you desired. You trusted him.
"Yes, Joel," you rasped. Your head was tipped backwards and your eyes had slid shut as you began to bounce faster on his lap. "Yes, Joel, I love it. I love it. Fuck, you feel so good. I can't - ah! - Christ, Joel, I love you-"
Time stood still with your words sitting heavy in the air. It took you a few seconds to realize what you said, then your eyes snapped open and you slapped a hand across your mouth in shock, hips freezing mid-air.
"I'm sorry," you mumbled, staring down at his surprised expression. "I didn't mean for that to be the first time-"
"But you did mean it?" he asked, stopping your muffled ramblings. Slowly, you nodded with watery eyes. He yanked your hand off your mouth and pulled you down for a searing kiss.
"I love you, too," he whispered happily against your mouth. His hips began to rock up into you, encouraging you to move with his hands firmly on your waist. "Keep going. Want you to come for me," he said with a grunt, lips still hovering centimeters away from yours. You nodded and began to move again, chasing the release you were moments away from tasting before you had panicked and stopped.
"C'mon, make yourself feel good. Take what you need, baby," he groaned when you bounced faster, breasts swaying underneath your shirt right in front of his face, teasing him. He lunged forward and pinched your nipple between his teeth right when his thumb began to work quick circles over your clit. You cried out his name, fingers clawing at his shoulders until he finally heard that content little broken moan and your release slowly trickled down his cock.
"Shit - gonna come," he growled. His hand left your clit so he could wrap both arms tightly around your middle, using you for leverage as he roughly fucked up into you. You had sagged forward, head resting on his shoulder while placing sweet kisses against his throat. You heard his harsh pants for air in your ear and smiled at the soft noises he made right before he stilled with a loud groan, pumping you full of his seed until his shoulders relaxed and he leaned back tiredly against the couch.
Your hand snaked around the back of his neck, turning his face towards you for a lazy kiss before whispering I love you one more time.
"I love you so goddamn much," he sighed, making you giggle. You pushed yourself up with a sigh, feeling groggy and satiated. You were in the middle of lovingly tracing the creases next to his eyes while he gazed up at you when the timer on the stove went off. You both groaned, neither of you ready to pull apart just yet, but the last thing you wanted was the smell of burnt lasagna permeating the house for the rest of the evening. With a gasp, you lifted yourself from his lap and turned to hunt for your panties on shaky legs.
"Go clean up, I got it," Joel said, standing and pulling his jeans up the rest of the way. You nodded and waddled towards the bathroom with your clothes while he tended to your dinner in the kitchen.
"So, you're comin' by the site tomorrow?" Joel confirmed around a mouthful of food. You nodded, only half listening to the television, your brain still blissfully quiet from earlier.
"Yep. Then after I'm meeting with this woman from the paper. They want to run a small piece on the truck, talk about the viral stuff, all that."
"My girl's gonna be in the paper?" Joel asked excitedly. You laughed, wanting to tease him for being one of the few people who still read an actual newspaper, but his support for you and your dream was so sweet that you didn't want to ruin it.
"Yep. Maybe even a picture, too."
"Well, damn. Look at you," Joel said softly, and you smiled at the tender look in his eye. "Gonna be famous. Can't wait to frame it. I'mma put one in my office at work and one here," he told you matter of factly. He pointed to the mantle, currently adorned with garland and christmas lights, where an old picture of him, Sarah and Mia sat, along with a picture of Tommy and Maria from their wedding day.
"I get to be on the mantle?" you asked excitedly.
"'Course you do. Woulda been up there sooner if we ever took a decent picture together."
"We take tons of pictures together," you began, but he quickly waved you off.
"And in all of 'em I look like shit."
"You do not! You look better than me most of the time with that goddamn smirk of yours," you teased, pinching his side when you added, "and you've lost almost twenty pounds."
Joel just laughed and wrapped his arm around your shoulders, taking your plate and stacking it with his before turning his attention towards the television. His thumb drew mindless circles over your arm and you listened to the peaceful, steady beat of his heart with your ear pressed against his chest.
Closing your eyes, you breathed deep and thought back on your life from the past several months. You had some curveballs thrown at you, sure, but given the circumstances, you were pretty damn happy with where you ended up: curled up next to the man you loved, listening to him mumble the wrong answers to Jeopardy amongst the twinkling lights from the Christmas tree.
Tumblr media
"Howdy, girls!"
"Hey, Uncle Tommy!" Sarah called down from the window of the food truck. He grinned at her crooked black cap stitched with your company's name and logo on the front. Wild little pieces of hair stuck out from underneath, framing her face which was dusted with flour.
"Looks like you're workin' hard," he said, waving when he spotted you hurrying by behind her.
"It's crazy busy! We've been moving non-stop since we parked!" she exclaimed.
"Well, get ready, 'cause I just brought twenty hungry construction workers," he replied while jutting his chin down the sidewalk where his crew had been carefully walking around piles of snow that had been packed down and pushed around by the feet of holiday shoppers.
"Good timing, 'cause we just got through the lunch rush," she said before straightening up and turning to you and Ellie. "Hey, guys - my dad and his crew are on their way! Want me to drop some chicken in the fryer?"
"Yeah, toss in a tray of breasts and a tray of tenders to get us started," you said, wiping your hands on your apron before turning to Ellie. "And-"
"Yeah, I know, I got the bread out of the oven already."
You grinned and turned to give the three soups of the day a quick stir and did a quick check on the stock of paper products, confirming you were in a good enough spot to take on another wave of business when you heard a woman's voice call your name from the sidewalk, stopping you in your tracks. When you saw it was the reporter you had promised to meet with for the write up she was going to put in the paper, you felt your heart sink.
"Carmen, hi! We're getting another rush, I'm so sorry!" you said while leaning through the window to shake her hand. "Can I get like, twenty minutes?"
"Of course!" Carmen replied. "I have some shopping to do anyway, take your time."
You were in the middle of expressing your thanks when the truck was suddenly bombarded with Joel and Tommy's crew, their deep voices laughing and talking over one another while Ellie began to take some orders at the register. Before you got back to work, you spotted Joel and excitedly waved him over.
"Hey," you grinned as you practically hung half your body out of the window to grab his face and pull him in. He chuckled and leaned up to kiss you, his cold lips pressing against yours and urging them apart so he could slip his tongue inside your mouth.
"Hey! People are tryin' to eat!" Tommy laughed while playfully swatting at Joel's shoulder. You both laughed and pulled apart, too giddy and love drunk on each other to care.
"You're cold," you said after you pulled yourself back inside the truck. "Do you want some coffee?"
"Yes, please," Joel replied, eyes glittering with pride as he watched you move around the truck. When you stretched forward to hand him the cup, you winked and said, "On the house."
"How's the job going?" you asked as you worked on slicing up the bread Ellie had pulled from the oven. Tickets fluttered in front of you and Sarah gave Joel a big smile and wave when she dropped off chicken fresh from the fryer.
"Alright. Glad we're workin' inside today but place ain't rigged for heat yet so we're makin' do," he replied, taking a sip from his cup. "How's business?" he asked, nodding towards the truck. His eyes drifted fondly over the front where you had printed out the menu in huge letters. Every time he saw his daughter's or his wife's names, his throat tightened. You didn't have to name dishes after them, but you did. Practically insisted on it. It made him emotional back then and it continued to make him emotional whenever he saw it.
"Great! I was hoping to capitalize on holiday foot traffic and boy, did I."
Your eyes were glued to your work, chopping and slicing, making sandwiches and wrapping them in paper while scooping out soup from the huge vats behind you and bagging everything with ease.
You were in your element. This was what you were meant to do.
"Joel! Did you order yet or what?" Ellie called from the register.
"He always gets the same thing," Sarah reminded her with a playful hip check. Ellie rolled her eyes and stifled her grin.
"Oh, yeah, duh. You," she said, narrowing her eyes in your direction. You felt your cheeks warm and you smiled but kept your focus on your work.
"You don't always have to order my sandwich, you know," you teased him.
"Now how can you blame me when you taste so damn good?" Joel smirked from the sidewalk, instantly eliciting a groan of disgust from each of the girls.
"He means the sandwich!" you laughed, feeling all flustered and praying your embarrassment didn't show.
"Do I?"
"Joel!" you hissed with wide eyes as Sarah called him gross and Ellie covered her ears. He threw back his head and laughed while you shook your head with a permanent smile stretched across your face.
This is true happiness, you thought. This feeling could never be topped.
Once Joel and his crew ate and slowly disappeared back down the street towards the storefront they were working on, you washed your hands and checked your reflection before stepping out of the truck with your coat draped over your arm. You glanced around the now mildly crowded street, searching for Carmen and smiling when you locked eyes with her a few doors down carrying a couple shopping bags.
"Perfect timing," you said when she was within hearing range. "Thanks again. My boyfriend is working around the corner and brought his entire crew."
"No apology necessary," she replied warmly, then glanced around with a shiver. "Mind if we pop into this coffee shop? Shouldn't take more than half an hour."
You happily agreed and followed her inside the warm café, breathing in deep the scent of cinnamon and smiling to yourself when you heard the faint sound of Christmas carols filtering through the speakers.
Carmen wasted no time. She dove right in, asking you how you came up with the idea for the food truck and then segueing right into the viral video Ellie and Sarah created that got you such a cult following. You explained that Ellie was a friend, leaving out how you met for her own privacy, and how Sarah was Joel's daughter.
"I'm noticing these names are familiar," Carmen said with a smile.
"Yeah, I named sandwiches after important people in my life. It felt like a sweet way to honor them and express my gratitude," you explained. Carmen hummed and reviewed her notes, phone recording quietly on the table between you.
"May I ask, then, who are Mia and Daniel?"
You cleared your throat and gave her a brave smile.
"They're no longer with us," you began. Softly, Carmen murmured, oh, I'm sorry, while scribbling something on her notepad. "It's okay. Daniel was my fiancé. He passed away over a year ago from a car accident. And Mia was Sarah's mom."
Carmen nodded thoughtfully as she continued to write.
"Oh, so you knew Sarah's mom, too?"
"Well, no," you said, "but based on how much Sarah and Joel have told me, it feels like I've met her."
"That's sweet," Carmen said, letting her pen drop on her notepad. "And these sandwiches - do they reflect anything significant about the people they're named after?"
"They do," you replied while straightening in your chair. "I tried to make the sandwiches based on each person's preference. For instance, Mia loved spice, so hers is a fried spicy chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo. Which I find hilarious because neither Joel or Sarah can handle any amount of spice," you said with a soft laugh.
Carmen nodded and laced her fingers together.
"And how about the sandwich named after you?"
"Well, that was the very first one we created and decided should be on the menu," you said. "I hadn't even thought about names yet but the girls convinced me I should name it after myself and I guess they've got a knack for persuasion."
Carmen laughed and you felt your shoulders relax a bit, not even realizing you were tense until that very moment.
"Well, it's incredible, I must say. I was sneaky last week and got one for myself when you were out on Brunswick."
You gasped, feigning dismay and making her laugh.
"Thank you, I'm so happy to hear that," you replied with a wide smile. "It happens to be my boyfriend's favorite, too."
"Joel doesn't order The Joel?" she asked, cocking her eyebrow.
You shook your head and tried to forget his earlier comment when you said, "Guess not. But he helped design The Joel. In fact, he also helped with The Mia. Sarah did, as well."
"That's so lovely to hear," Carmen said softly, pressing her lips together and leaning forward. "I think it's such a wonderful detail, by the way. How the two of you came from relationships that ended in tragedy and managed to find peace and happiness with one another. And to honor your partners in this way is incredible."
"Thank you," you answered. Your chest warmed at her compliment. "Even though I never met Mia, she was important to the people I love the most, and therefore, she's important to me. Joel and Sarah feel the same about Daniel. Grief is a complicated thing, but I like to think I've found a way to live beside it."
Carmen smiled and dropped her gaze to the table. "That's so comforting and reassuring to hear. And an incredible quote to leave me with because it looks like our time is up."
"Quote?" you asked with a tilt to your head.
"I usually like to run a quote from my subject as my byline," Carmen said while she packed up her things. She began to stand and you stopped her.
"Wait - could I give you something else to put as your byline instead?"
She grinned and sat back down before pulling out her phone and pressing a button.
"Of course."
Tumblr media
One Week Later
"You nervous 'bout your mama comin' up?" Joel asked, tugging you closer to his side as you walked up the snowy sidewalk.
"A little," you admitted. "But whatever she ends up thinking doesn't matter. I love you, Joel," you said, tilting your chin up to meet his eye. "I love you and nothing is ever going to change that."
He smiled and gave your lips a quick peck as you rounded the corner, closing in on the nearest grocery store.
"Well, back in my day, I used to be a big hit with a girl's parents."
"Oh, yeah?" you teased.
"Yep. They all loved me. I'm real respectful, you'll see."
You wanted to tell him to just be himself and to not stress about your mother's visit, but you knew there was no use. He was going to do everything possible to win your mother over and while you found it admirable he cared so much, you didn't want him to feel like he needed to make your parents come around. In your several talks with Ryan in therapy, you had come to the conclusion that nobody's approval was needed for you to be happy. It would be nice, sure. It would make holidays and special occasions easier. But nothing was going to change anything between you and Joel.
"Alright, now. Here we go," Joel said excitedly when the automatic doors slid open and you were met with a blast of warm air. You grinned and squeezed his arm while letting him drag you towards the newspapers and magazines. You both scanned the rows of periodicals before Joel spotted it first and grabbed the whole stack. He handed you the extras and eagerly flipped through the pages of the one on top before he paused with a slow smile.
"What? How does it look? What picture did she-"
You cut yourself short when you peered over his shoulder. Your breath hitched and you caught Joel's eye before looking back at the page.
Unbeknownst to you, Carmen and grabbed a quick shot of you leaning out of the food truck to kiss Joel. You were both smiling as snow lightly fell around you, the background highlighted by twinkling Christmas lights and laughing holiday shoppers. It looked like a photograph straight out of a movie: two people finding a quick moment for love in the midst of a busy street.
"You think that's a good enough picture of the two of us?" you asked, looking up at him adoringly, but his focus was on the byline. His eyes kept scanning the words over and over until you swore you saw tears begin to cloud his vision.
"You like it?" you found yourself whispering. He swallowed and nodded, bottom lip quivering before he let the paper drop to his side so he could cup your jaw and pull you in for a kiss.
"I love you," he murmured.
"I love you, too," you said softly against his lips. He gave you one more kiss before he sniffled and opened the paper again so he could reread the words:
This was all made possible because of Daniel, who taught me what true love is, and because of Joel, who showed me love during my darkest days - I owe you everything.

Hey! I'm gonna take advantage of your charity and incredible talent and ask me some Silco stuff, and I will make it very personal.
Im just a sucker for angsty fluff, so I was thinking something in the lines of reader works either in some restaurant where Silco goes or actually works in the last drop. And she's just having a rough couple of days and Silco finds out about it and just wants to help (maybe he gets frustrated because of it all, and goes all Silco, you know what I mean? Damn I'm gonna shut up now). But we all know Silco is not the most affectionate man, or at least shows it in weird (?) ways. I feel like it would be better (?) if they didn't have a relationship yet. But I'll leave it to your brilliance to do as you please, I have complete trust in your skills.
But remember, you don't have to do this if you don't feel like it of course.
Anyway, to much information already. So good luck, love your work, that brain of yours and you in general ❤️💙💛🤍
PS- do not allow me to make more requests, I will make them long, weird and I'll keep remembering more stuff to add and the next thing you know it's a full blown fic 🤣
Take All Your Sins
A/N: Thank you so much for your request, love!!! I was excited to do this one!!! This is going to be a two parter or MORE for SURE. <3 ilysm thank you again for your trust in me!!!
Summary: You work in the Last Drop and very close to Vander. What happens if Silco comes along and ruins that?
Pairing: Silco x Reader
WC: 1.4k
Warnings: Angst, sweet Silco, protective Vander, alcohol

“If you have something else to do, I can finish those.” You come into the doorway of the kitchen, nodding toward the dishes that he’s doing.
“I got ‘em. Almost done.” The older man smiles at you.
A few years ago, Vander gave you a place to stay when he found you out on the streets and ever since then, you were basically inseparable. His kids were like your own.
“Rough night, huh?” Vander asks as you lean in the doorway, keeping an eye on the place in case more patrons came in.
The Last Drop is usually busy this time of night, especially on this day of the week. But it’s like a ghost town right now and you can’t seem to figure out why.
“Rough week.” You sigh, crossing your arms.
“Do you need a couple days off?” Vander asks, genuinely.
He always made sure you were taken care of, which you appreciate, but sometimes it feels like he does too much for others, and never lets anyone do anything for him. You’re bound to change that though. His birthday is coming up and you’ve been saving up for something special that will be from you and the kids.
“Nah, I’m-” You start but hear the door open.
“You got it?” Vander asks and you nod with a grin and turn around to greet the customer, letting the kitchen door swing shut.
“What can I get ya?” You smile at the older man, who makes you do a subtle double take.
“Whiskey. Neat, please.” He smiles.
He’s got dark hair, a partially scarred face, one blue eye and the other dark black with an orange iris that makes him look incredibly menacing. He’s wearing an open, fancy peacoat with a buttoned vest and tie. Who the hell is this guy?
His eyes rake over you as you approach the bar where he sits.
“Haven’t seen you before.” You smile, politely.
“I don’t get out much.” He takes his coat off and sits it down on the stool next to him. “I… work a lot.”
His voice is silky and you can’t help but want to hear him say more.
“What do you do?” You ask as you pour his drink.
“I own my own business.” He tells you and takes the drink when you slide it to him.
The way he says it, makes you think he doesn’t want to answer anymore questions about himself.
“What’s your name?” He asks softly.
You tell him and he takes a sip, keeping his blue eye on you. You smile softly, unsure of what to say.
“Pretty name.” He tells you, after he finishes off his drink.
You go to pour him another but he puts his hand over his drink and shakes his head.
“Thanks.” You put the bottle back down and then take the empty glass from him, sitting it in the sink. “What’s yours?”
“Silco. Do you like working here?” He asks, not missing a beat.
You nod. “Yeah, I do.”
“And you like Vander?”
You nod. “Who doesn’t?”
He chuckles, glancing around subtly. “Who doesn’t, indeed?”
“What are you doing after work?” He asks.
Oh… of course. He thinks you’re going to put out-
“I’m not trying to fuck you.” He tells you, as if he can read your mind while he stands up and puts his coat back on.
“You’re not?” You narrow your eyes at him.
“I mean, I wouldn’t say no if you wanted to, but that’s not why I asked.” He smirks.
You both stare at each other for a moment. His eyes fall to your lips before coming back up to your eyes.
“So… the real reason is?” You cross your arms.
“I think you’re beautiful and I’ve not been on a proper date in years.” Silco shrugs, placing a hand on the back of the barstool.
You go warm in the face before looking down at his slender fingers and immediately can’t help but wonder what they’d feel like inside-
“I’ll be by at 11.” He tells you, snapping your thoughts back to the present as he places a few cogs onto the bar.
“Um. Alright.” You nod, giving a kind smile.
He stares at you for another short moment before giving you a smile back and then leaving. Just as the door closes, Vander walks out and sees you staring at the door, breaking you out of the trance that Silco seemed to have put you in.
“Everything okay?” He asks, placing a hand on your shoulder.
You look up at him, smiling a little dreamily. It’s not something you’re used to. Normally, when customers ask you out, you brush them off and pay them no mind. But Silco… he managed to get you to pay attention.
“All good. Um… I have a date after work.” You go warm in the face at the word ‘date’.
It’s not like you don’t date… you do… just not consistently. The last date you went on was a year ago. It didn’t go well so you decided to just focus on work.
“With the customer that just came in? Who is he?” Vander’s eyebrows raise in surprise, knowing that you haven’t gone out with someone in a long time.
“Just… some guy.” You shrug, starting to wipe down the bar.
Vander chuckles. “Alright. Keep your secrets. I was young once, too.”
You laugh with him, your thoughts immediately going back to Silco’s unmatching eyes and the way they softened at the sight of you.
“You can go get ready if you want. I can finish here.” Vander smirks.
You roll your eyes. “Thanks. I owe you.”
“Nah. Get outta here.” He nods toward the door that leads to the upstairs.
You pat him on the shoulder as you walk past him, heading upstairs to go shower. You look at the clock and see that it reads 9:30. That should give you plenty of time to get ready. You don’t take particularly long showers.
As you turn on the water, you climb into the shower, letting the water flow over your body as you stand there for a moment before starting to wash your body and hair. You still can’t stop thinking about the older man. He had to be about Vander’s age, right? You wonder if they know each other. Perhaps after you get to know Silco a little more, you’ll introduce them.
After your shower, you dry your hair the best you can and then settle on a dress that you’d saved up forever to buy just because. What better excuse to wear it than on a date with an extremely attractive, slightly intimidating, man?
At ten til 11, you make your way back down to the bar. Vander and Benzo both let out a whistle at the sight of you.
“Don’t you clean up nice?” Vander grins.
You shrug, going warm in the face from the attention. “I guess.”
You sit up on the bar stool next to Benzo. You glance over at the door and then back at Vander.
“Do you want something to loosen your nerves?” Vander teases.
“I’m alright, thanks.” You roll your eyes, amused.
“Who’s this hot date with?” Benzo nudges you with his elbow.
You go warm in the face all over again, thinking about Silco. “Just some older guy… he’ll be here any minute.”
They accept that answer and continue their conversation from before about business stuff that you don’t really mind yourself with. You pretty much just show up and do your job and do exactly what Vander tells you to do and then go back upstairs and sleep. And then repeat.
The door opens moments later, and the three of you look up to find Silco walking in. You can’t help but give him a sweet smile. He smirks at you and pauses by the door.
“Are you ready-” He starts.
“Silco.” Vander growls.
“Hello, Vander.” Silco’s eyes fall past you to the man behind you. “Lovely establishment you have here.”
You turn to Vander, confused. “You know each other?”
“Oh yes, we do.” Silco walks toward you, wrapping an arm around your lower back, looking you up and down. “You look beautiful, darling.”
“She’s not going anywhere with you.” Vander comes around the bar and starts toward Silco but Benzo gets up quickly from the stool and stops him.
You look between Silco and Vander, still confused.
“I think that’s for her to decide.” Silco smirks up at Vander who stands almost a foot above him.
You turn to Vander, with furrowed brows. This man is the one who gave you life again, the man who is like a father to you. The man you owe your life to. If he says you shouldn’t go… then shouldn’t you listen to him?

"Yes, my mom is a witch. Yes, my birth parents sold me to her. No, I do not hate her. She treats me like I'm her own son. Does that answer all your questions?"
Tim asked with crossed arms. Batman and his family recently discovered you, his witch mum, and now refuse to let it go. They've been badgering him all day.
"How does that work? How did Bruce adopt you if you already have a family?"
Dick was so confused. How did Tim hide you for so long? How did he sneak out when he lives with a family of detectives? Tim merely sighed and explained,
"My mom told me it's okay. She said I'm magically hers, so a sheet of paper means nothing. She knew my path would always lead me here, so she didn't stop me. She trusts that I will make good decisions for myself."
You had kissed his forehead that day and gave him a hug before telling him he's always your baby and you want him to follow the path he forges for himself.
"Can we meet her?"
Dick asked. He wanted to know more about Tim's secret mother figure. Why did Tim keep you from them?
Tim paused. He didn't know how good of an idea that would be. He loved you dearly, but you are introverted like him. He wouldn't want to meet the family, especially with how huge it got over the years, so why would you want to meet them? Tim conceded,
"I'll ask her, but she would have to come here. Her home is impossible to break into with all the wards and all the magic she poured into our home -- that's irrelevant. I'll ask if she wants to come over. Don't be surprised if she popped in during dinner."
With all that said, Tim was out the door, leaving the family with millions of questions. They knew they wouldn't be able to trail Tim without him knowing. You seemed impossible to reach anyway.
You seemed to ponder Tim's request for what feels like forever. You love your solitude, but you decided that you love Tim more. You asked him seriously,
"Do you want me to go or are they forcing you to ask?"
Tim considered his feelings for a moment. Does he want to keep you selfishly to himself, or does he want to share? He's not sure. He's positive you would hit it off with Bruce, and that might lead to you joining the family and eventually tying him to them permanently. He admits,
"I'm not sure. You'd love them, but I don't trust that you'll be treated with the respect you deserve."
Your gaze softened and you lightly kissed his cheek. You told him,
"Little dove, you do not have to force me on the family if you don't want to. I love you and you are the only one to make this decision."
He didn't like that you turned the decision onto him, but he should have expected as much. You hated making decisions. He decided after a couple of minutes,
"I... I want you to meet them."
You took his hand in yours and teleported both of you into the manor. Tim hugged you tightly the entire time it took to teleport. He loved you, but teleporting sucks to experience. It feels like reality itself warped like one of the circus mirrors and suddenly poof.
You're standing in the middle of dinner, like he told them you would do. Tim's hand was still in yours as you looked through the room. Your eyes finally landed on Alfred, and you walked over to him.
"Well, it's lovely to meet you. You must be Bruce."
You took Alfred's hand in yours and shook it with a kind smile. The kids all snickered at the offended Bruce. It's partially true that Alfred is a father figure, but ouch.
"Miss, master Bruce is at the head of the table."
You didn't seem embarrassed at all as you walked to Bruce with Tim trailing behind you.
"I'm sorry about my abrupt entrance. It's good to meet the part-time father to my little dove."
Bruce watched you carefully. You seem like a nice person. No wonder Tim turned out so kind.
You sat down with Tim on one side and Dick on the other side. You took a deep breath before saying,
"Ask your questions."
Tim gave you a shocked look. You evaded questions like the plague. Why is it so different now?
Well, it's different because your Timmy cares about them, and they would obviously have a lot more personal questions than questions from a stranger.
"How did you meet Tim?"
Dick asked at your side. You smiled and looked at Tim with soft eyes. You delved into the story,
"He must have been two or three when his parents found me in the forest outside my house. Everybody knows about the witch in the woods who grants wishes for a price."
You sighed. You hate your reputation, but there's nothing you can do about it. You continued,
"A couple appeared with a toddler. I originally thought they would ask for an illness to go away in their child, but instead they offered the toddler holding his mother's hand in exchange for riches."
You frowned. Tim knew you always get upset by the story and wrapped an arm around you protectively.
"I thought to myself. 'Why would anyone offer me their child?' But, I ultimately decided he would be better off with me, so I accepted. I took tiny Tim in my arms, and he melted into my arms. It seemed like he had never been hugged before me, and it broke my heart. The magical contract was signed, and the couple walked off child-free and rich."
All eyes turned to Tim. He told them a different story of his childhood, but what did they expect? For him to disclose, his parents abandoned him to a witch and subsequently was raised by said witch? Sure, there are crazier backstories, but that would look terrible from any angle. It would look like a kidnapping when it was really more like saving. You saved Tim from the pain of growing up in a loveless home. You save him from the pain of cold isolation. You raised him, praised him, and adored him. He was your child, no matter the DNA.
You didn't even want kids until Tim was in your arms. You became the mother all children deserve to have regardless of your lack of desire for children.
The story seemed to satisfy most of their major questions. Jason eventually asked,
"Why did you let him join us?"
You smiled and ruffled Tim's hair affectionately, who grumbled in a very disgruntled tone.
"This one loved Batman, and he thought he needed a Robin. I told him to follow his own path. He'll always be my son, both magically and in our hearts."
Bruce was beginning to like you. However, they were all a bit salty about the fact that none of them have a mother. Dick grinned and elbowed Bruce.
"That just means you have to give us a mother to make it even. Tim can't be the only one with a mom."
You laughed, but Tim looked like he was contemplating bringing you into a relationship with Bruce. Bruce asked,
"Would the magic transfer if you got married?"
You shook your head. You decided to be kind and elaborated,
"Tim is strictly mine for as long as I live according to the signed contract I made with his original parents."
Bruce didn't like that Tim isn't his son and never will be. You gave a contemplating hum. Technically, there is a way, but it would never happen. You weren't very interested in the second option. Still, you told him,
"Unless we married magically. Then we are tied together, and that means Tim would be tied to my husband indirectly. He would still have no real authority, but he'd have a small claim over him."
That caught Bruce's attention. He has a chance to keep Tim more permanently. He asked,
"What does it mean to marry magically? What's the difference?"
You quirked an eyebrow at him. Why was he so curious? You didn't have plans to marry. Then again, you didn't plan to have a child either. Sure, you've helped a few people with their fertility issues, but it was a joke to ask for their firstborn.
"We sign a contract that would tie our souls together. We could sign a legal document as well, but the magical contract must be signed for the claim to settle."
Tim whispered in your ear soft enough for only you to hear,
"Mom, will you marry Bruce? I want to be his son."
You straightened in your chair. You were startled by the request and asked back equally quietly,
"Are you sure? This is your soul, Tim, not just some flimsy legal document."
Tim nodded. He already figured he'd be part of the family, but he wanted to make it more permanent.
"I'm sure, mom."
You sighed softly in your spot. You were so weak for your Tim. You'd give anything to make him happy. You frowned before conceding,
"If you can convince him."
Tim kissed your forehead gratefully and began negotiating with Bruce and feeling out the situation. Dick took your hand in his and said to you light-heartedly,
"I'm gaining a mom after all."
And that is how the Batfamily gained Batmom. What a mess.

Looking at the masc gf universe pics makes me wonder how the girls met their gfs, like we know how Sophia met hers but how did the rest meet their gfs
Like I’m actually really curious about Lara and Dani’s
I loved doing this anon.
Well, we already know how Sophia and Yn (fam out) met, now the other girls…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MANON
Yn and Manon met throught Dominick Fike, Yn is Dominick’s drummer and when she saw Manon in the studio for the first time, she was enchanted.
Yn was never a person who talked much, she liked to listen and observe more. But with Manon, it was as if she couldn't keep quiet.
On the same day they met, the two went on a date together. They went to a nice restaurant and then got high in the back seat of Yn's car.
They shared dreams, fears, thoughts and finally many kisses, in the back seat. The back seat of Yn's car quickly became very cozy for the couple ;)
Yn was calm and peaceful, but with Manon, Yn was completely out of her confort zone. It was as if the brunette gave Yn a new meaning in life, and she was ready to dive head first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DANIELA
Yn and Daniela hated each other at first. Better, Daniela hated Yn, while Yn had no idea.
Yn was a close friend of the Raj family, so she hung out with Lara and Rhea a lot.
When Lara introduced Daniela to Yn, the Latina swore she had never hated anyone like that.
She hated how perfect Yn's teeth were, she hated how pretty the girl's hair was, she hated how the girl's muscles looked so prominent in that shirt, and she DEFINITELY hated finding out that Yn worked as a firewoman.
After a week, Yn still didn't know what she had done to make Latina hate her, and when she got tired of Latina's attitude, she simply decided to clear things up.
"What's your problem with me?"  "Wow, you really are so conceited. What makes you think I have a problem with you?"  "If you don't have a problem with me, would you mind going out with me tonight?!"   "Okay, you better be at my door by nine."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LARA
actually, this Lara and Yn are from "crazy girls", but I'll give a background.
After the meeting it didn't take long for the two to start dating, Lara had been crazy about Yn for a long time, and Yn simply fell in love with everything about the red-haired girl.
I have a part two for "crazy girls" so I won't say much...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MEGAN
Megan and Yn met through Malia and Kylie, I like to think of them as the stories "sleepy head" and "nonsense"
Before Megan and Yn met, one of Yn's castmates ended up leaking the information that she had a crush on one of the Katseye girls.
"Yn has a crush..."  "Dude, what?"  "She's embarrassed, but I can't stand hearing her talk about the "Katseye girl" anymore!"
A week later, you and Megan were introduced. Needless to say, you were both awkward losers.

Summary: In which you get the best present of all this holiday season... even if it can't fit under the tree
Track 2 of fruitcake - buy me presents
A/N: missed writing for my babyyy
I never done secret Santa before so idrk how it's done- so I'm apologizing beforehand.
Tumblr media
Working for the devils was amazing as it always is well if you exclude the absolute chaos that happens when you're hanging out with the team.
Seeing Cap every day was definitely a plus. Did you have a crush on your co-worker who you definitely shouldn't have a crush on? Yes.
Did you tell one of his best friends about said crush on your fellow co-worker? Also yes.
Jack nudged your side, getting your attention.
"Did you hear Nico? We're doing secret Santa today." Jack told you. "I just hope I don't get Luke again."
You laughed beside him. "What a nightmare that was."
"Haha very funny." Jack rolled his eyes.
You put your hand in the bowl and picked up a piece of paper, Jack did the same as well.
Your eyes widened when you saw the name on yours, Nico.
"Shit," You cursed. "Hey Jack can we switch?" You whispered.
Jack only chucked. "Hm sorry dude, mine is actually a good one. Who did you get? Was it Nico?"
Jack laughed louder when you didn't reply. "Oh my god is it actually?"
You huffed. "Don't get too happy, only gonna make my feelings for him worse than it already is."
"Well we have two weeks till the Christmas party, I'm sure you'll find a gift and a way to tell him." He reassured you.
You shrugged. "Yeah yeah, whatever you say hughes."
"I mean I can help you... but only if you get good photos of me on the ice today." Jack looked at you, seriously.
You rolled your eyes. "So more girls can swoon over you? No way."
"Fine help me with mine, and I'll maybe set you up with Nico, I got Dawson." Jack confessed.
"See now we're getting somewhere, this can work." You grinned. "And hm I'll throw in the photos for free."
Jack hugged you tight. "You're the best!"
"I know, you never tell me enough."
The next two weeks have been a blur, suddenly you were about to go to the Christmas party in a couple of minutes, gift in hand.
When you first walked into the party you were heavily greeted by some of the wags and of course, Jack.
"Have you talked to Nico yet? Did you confess your undying love for him?" Jack immediately laughed.
You swatted your hand at him in embarrassment as the wags gave knowing looks, some smirking.
"He's... he's joking guys." You tried to tell them.
One of them chuckled. "Don't think I ever seen Jack joke about this." The wags began agreeing.
You groaned internally, it was one thing when Jack was saying it but the wags as well? You were doomed.
"Oh hey is that Nico over there? On the balcony." Jack pointed out.
You snapped your head immediately, ignoring the chuckles and saw that Jack was in fact right.
"I-I'll be right back." You begin to walk off, the wags and Jack(who is somehow the loudest) cheering you on.
You opened the door, signaling your arrival. Nico's shoulder relaxed when he saw it was you.
"Hey." He smiled softly.
You moved closer to him. "Hey. I got you a little something."
You gave him the gift which he immediately accepted. You awaited his reaction as he unwrapped the gift. A photo of the two of you in a photoframe(that you definitely didn't steal from Jack).
"Wow..." Nico was at a lost of words.
It was a silly photo really, Jack took it one night. You smiled big at the camera while Nico was too busy looking at you, trapped in a love sick gaze.
"This is amazing." Nico looked at you. "Thank you."
"Oh it's not a big deal, kinda had to get you something." You shrugged it off to ignore your racing heart.
Nico chuckled softly at your reaction, clearly amused.
"So what's with the bow?" You chuckled, gesturing to his hair where it was stuck... oddly.
"Jack made me do it." Nico mutters. "Said I would make a good present for you? I did get an actual present for you though, it's kinda big."
You are grinning, biting back a smile. "Well you still look cute if that means anything."
Nico pulled you closer in his embrace. "Oh yeah?"
You nodded. "Definitely."
You take the bow off his head. "I like you better without it though."
You looked back to see Nico with a slight flush appearing on his face.
"You truly think that?" Nico asked, vulnerability evident in his tone.
You nod slowly, smiling. "Of course, I would be a fool if I didn't."
"I love you Y/n." Nico's hand traces your hip lightly. "Just wanted you to know."
You sighed. "I love you too Nico, no need to worry about it."
You leaned into his touch, the two of you staying like that for a while as the night whisked you two away in your own little world.

It was a little nerve wracking, the idea of him reading through something she'd notated. Sure, it was a children's book, and the notations were nothing too interesting, but still - it was a look at the inside of her mind, and the idea of him seeing that side of her made her a little nervous. So she simply nodded and let it go.
"Yeah, to China." Maybe he could feel it - the way that Cora relaxed a little more in this moment. She loved it, the process of planning an adventure, going and immersing herself in the culture, losing herself a little in a new place. "I'm working for a few days - general stories about the Great Wall, the Forbidden City." Spending her time trying to find a new angle to old places. "Once work is done, I'll just let myself get a little lost for a couple of weeks." It was a careful balance - wanting to make sure she saw certain tourist hot spots, but also wanting to make sure she was fluid enough to let the experience guide her. "If you've got any suggestions, let me know."
"Ahh, apologies, I thought you meant she wanted to go to London and Orlando. But avoiding Orlando is always a good idea." Shrugging off what felt like an easy mistake, she looked back at him, giving him a small smile. "Hmmm." She didn't point out that it seemed like she and Lily shared some similarities, not wanting to a ruin a good thing. "What day in May? Her birthday, I mean." It could seem like none of her business, and he didn't have to tell her. "I wonder how many days apart we are. Mine is the 14th."
And then the ease was gone for a moment, Cora feeling the tension in him. Okay. A line had been hit. So she took a few beats, letting herself relax, not interested in both of them feeling uncomfortable. She let out a small, silent exhale, that surely he could feel with his arms around her.
"You're you. You're this very important man. You have your business, so you have your employees and that stress." She was speaking slowly, fingertips grazing over one of his arms lightly, trying to ease any tension that may still be in the room with them. "I'm sure there are plenty of people I can't even think about that you're responsible. Then there's your family." And a full circle moment, "And then there's you."
She wanted him to understand she didn't have ulterior motives, that she wasn't trying to angle for more from him. But she also didn't know how to express that the longer they did this thing together, the more she would inevitably care about him. She just didn't know how to untie those parts of herself. "So while you're busy making the world turn." This was not a joke, this was said with sincerity. "Who is making sure that you're getting whatever it is that you need - rest, fun, relaxation, food - who is making sure you're not going to crumble?"
"I'll think about it." His next kiss was just as gentle, a little higher, placed just beneath the lobe of her ear. "Bring it by, and I'll have a look." He wasn't exactly eager for Lily to know about Cora at this point, but he supposed he didn't have to tell his daughter who the book had come from. And if Cora was as smart as he thought she might be, her observations in the book might even be educational to Lily. And that, he would never deny her. So he'd look through it, peruse her annotations, and if he deemed them worthwhile, he actually, surprisingly enough, would let his daughter read Cora's copy.
"To China, you mean?" He smiled a little, imagining Cora's energetic personality among the Chinese. "It's an interesting country to travel, though a few weeks isn't long considering the size of it - how are you prioritising your time there?" He might have come off a little patronising, like the well-travelled older man that he was, but his tone was affected with enough genuine curiosity about her trip to avoid it.
"It's not a theme park," he corrected gently, "there are no rides or anything of that nature. The Harry Potter World you'll find just outside London is more like... a museum. It's a Warner Brothers studio tour of sets, props and costumes from the movies. It's supposed to be quite an interesting experience... if you're a Harry Potter enthusiast." His broad shoulders shrugged lightly. "My PA is planning a trip for us in May next year for her birthday."
Her next question took him by surprise, enough for his back to tense up momentarily. He straightened, automatically taking her with him as his arms were still locked securely around her. "Taking care of me?" He then questioned, his tone calm enough but without the easy energy it had possessed just moments earlier. "Taking care of me how?"

Imma post something, only cause my cat put her paw on my phone screen while I was reading about Sylus and she hit the little blue circle in the corner. She the love of my life ❤️
Anyway...time to write some ANGST angst.
Like... WARNING THIS MIGHT TRIGGER SOMEONE.
LADS boys when...they find your 'Diary'
--Sylus-- Part 1 of 4
(I don't have the mental energy to put all of them on one lol I'll try getting Xavier's out tonight-no promises)
Yeah um, going off some personal stuff here so it's probably gonna be a mess. MC has an emotionally abusive family. It's 'Diary' but I call mine a different name.
You have been warned btw.
Sylus-
•He knew your life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, even living in Linkon he knew there were shadows everywhere. Hell, when he met you, you would flinch at everything and hardly spoke so he knew something had happened to you at some point.
•He just didn't expect it to be...this bad.
•You both were having a normal day, you were smiling and laughing. Finally feeling safe enough around him to open up more. He was so excited to have seen your eyes light up that nothing else mattered in this moment.
•When it happened.
•Your eyes, still bright and happy, looked around the Mall you both were in when they fell on two people staring from across the walkway.
•He saw you freeze and your eyes glaze over slightly making his eyes snap to whatever was making you react like this.
•He saw an older couple, almost glaring in your direction.
•He acted fast as he moved to block yours and their view. He stood in front of you, gently lifting your chin to look at him.
•Your eyes were still glazed over with an unknown emotion to him.
•He gave you a soft worried smile and took your hand and led you away.
•But not before hearing some words from the couple as you walked.
•"I see she's whoring herself out." "I wonder if she has a kid yet?" "She'd make for a useless mother if so." "She's probably living under a bridge in a tent she can't afford while sleeping with crack heads." "I bet that's her pimp with her now."
•Sylus' eye shined red as he heard the exchange, his blood boiling in red hot anger.
•Who were these people to talk about you like that?? Especially while he was in earshot.
•The rest of the day he spent just trying, trying his hardest, to make you feel better. To bring you back to laughing and smiling again.
•But all you said was, "Can I go home please?" In the small voice you used to talk in.
•He obliged, not wanting to overwhelm or overstep.
•When he dropped you off at your apartment, he... didn't want to leave you alone.
•He didn't worry about finding the couple from earlier, he already had Mephisto on them the moment they left the Mall. He was more worried about the look in your eyes.
•And more than pissed that those people made you shut yourself away from life- from him- again. After he worked so hard to get you to feel safe.
•You barely registered his presence in your apartment before you locked yourself in your bedroom, wanting to be alone.
•He understood and sat in your living room to wait for you to feel at least a little better.
•In his waiting he saw your book shelf and decided to read something of yours.
•The Book Thief...no, The Hobbit series...no, oh what's this? A notebook?
•He opened the book in curiosity only to be met with pages and pages of words, emotions, and... things he wishes weren't true. He thought this was a diary of some sort, he felt he shouldn't be reading this but something inside him wanted answers to why you act the way you do.
•The more he read the more an uncomfortable weight started settling in his chest. How have you been through so much...
•He put it together that those people might be your Mother and Stepdad. He could feel the red hot coals of anger towards them as he read what they did.
•He flipped through the notebook to the front and saw the title you gave it. 'My Death Book'.
•...
•Before he can think about it anymore, he takes quick, long strides towards your closed bedroom door.
•He knocked on the door softly, not waiting for an answer as he opened the door slightly to peek in.
•You were laying, curled up in the bed asleep.
•He walked over to check on you, to make sure the words in that book weren't going to come true. Ever.
•He wants to make sure you have a chance to forget, and never be reminded of any of it.
•He was going to make sure that you would never have to write something like that again, that you'll never feel like that again.
•One way to make sure you never ran into them again...was to take care of the problem at the cause.
•He texted Luke and Kieran a few details, just a screenshot of Mephisto's surveillance of the older couple and an order to 'take care of it.'
•He immediately got replies, '🫡' 'On it boss!'
•They didn't even question it, used to how he works by now.
•Now with that taken care of he sat down on the end of your bed. He reached over to play with a strand of your hair, a soft, protective look in his eyes.
•He just wants to lay with you, cuddle you, shower you in his love and kisses, but you aren't that close yet. He doesn't want to overstep more than he already does.
•He just wishes that he could have been there from the beginning, to make sure you kept your adorable shine.
•No one messes with his Sweetie and gets away with it.
**IT HAS BEEN UPDATED lol just a few things here and there to pull it together and make some things make more sense. Sorry lol**

I slowly entered Joe's room while he’s still fully asleep, laid down at his left. I carefully light on the candle trying to make any sound, emphasis in trying because the lighter makes so much noise that Joe opens his eyes slowly.
“No.” I whisper but it’s useless. Joe is awake. “No, sleep, please.” I try to cover his eyes, making him giggle.
Joe grabs my hand over his eyes with a smirk on his face. “Ok, I can do that.”
He pretends to fall asleep but inevitably laughs one second later. “Enough?”
I roll my eyes. “We can say that.”
He opens his eyes, blinking, realizing on my other hand I had a small cake with a candle of Ness, his character from Super Mario.
“Happy birthday.” Joe laughs sitting on the bed.
“What is this?” It’s a small cake I made earlier in the morning trying to mute any sound of the kitchen, without counting the sound of the lighter. “This is great.”
He points to the candle. “Well, blow it up or it melted completely.”
Joe closes his eyes blowing the candle, making a wish.
“A good wish?” Joe nods, taking a small bite of his cake.
“Sorry, but if I tell you, it won't make it true.” Joe observes narrowing his eyes. “You have something on your face.”
“Where?” Joe approaches, catching my upper lip in a kiss.
“Butter cream.” He licks his lips. “Yeah, it tastes really good.”
I blink speechless as I grab my heated face with my free hand, hot like a bonfire.
“Let me try again.” He tries to kiss me one more time, my useless attempt to avoid it, ends in him grabbing the cake quickly, putting on the night table beside him with me under him on his bed.
Take a little bit of the buttercream putting on my lips, kissing me as he grabs my neck.
“Yeah, really good.” I giggle, giving him a small peck.
The sound of his alarm distracts us; Joe knows he must get ready for training.
“Save it for the bell.” He stands taking another bite of his cake.
I sit watching him with dazzling eyes, as he goes to his closet.
“Guys are preparing a small dinner for my birthday, would you like to come?” I hissed. I met a few of his friends in casual conversation, this is another step.
“I have to travel home tonight.” Joe smiles leaning to me, grabbing his pink hoodie for don't fall over my face.
“I know, I know, it's my last attempt.” He kissed my forehead.
“Sorry.” I stand giving him a hug. “Happy birthday Joe.”
Although it is Joe's birthday; tomorrow it's my grandmother's birthday too, all the family are gathering to celebrate her. 85 years old is a big number.
“Are you planning to come back before Christmas?” Joe starts to put all he could need inside of his bag. “You work for a place here, you know, it will be…”
“I'll try, I'm not promising anything, besides I've always been working remotely.” He laughs going to change his clothes.
“Before I forget.” He takes a paper bag. “Let's consider it as a previous Christmas gift.”
I opened the bag, a Bengal shirt with the number 9 on it.
I roll my eyes. “You don't have to look for it anymore, failing in the attempt.”
However, in the corner I notice something unusual next to his number.
“Wait, wait, what is this?” I lift the shirt, pointing to the tiny orange heart, next to the big white 9.
Joe pretends looking at his phone. “I'm going late, let's go for breakfast.”
He pulls me from my hand going downstairs, giggling as a kid.
Before Christmas I had a special present for Joe.
I got to be in Cincinnati a couple of days ago, however it is the second week they’re in a game out of home. Right now they're in Seattle after a bad loss, with a defense that has been imperceptible.
Joe seems disturbed in the press conference, still he texts me, hoping to arrive on time before I take my flight home.
He thinks I'll leave tonight to be on time and help my family before travelling to spend Christmas with my mother's mother.
“This is the last one.” Jason brings the last tray of food.
As Lilian sits on a chair. “I feel I could be arrested in any minute.”
I chuckle as I set in their place the last mistletoe.
“Ready!” I smile seeing around all the arrangements, happy with how everything is settled. “Now let's go, that I don't have so much time.”
I push them to the door not before taking the last look, it's perfect.
After a quick shower and changing my clothes, I just left myself enough time to drive back before Joe arrives from Seattle.
All should be according to the plan with my “little” helpers.
And it was, as I kept waiting for a couple well-known voices, that I heard at the entrance.
“Come on guys, this could wait.” Joe complains. “Y/N leaves tonight, I haven't seen her in weeks, and I really want to say goodbye to her.”
“Joe, this mustn't wait, it's urgent.” Tee said, even though he sounds tired, his voice is cheerful.
I heard them opening the crystal door of the training camp, but I know they just make sure Joe gets inside before leaving.
“The lights aren't even turned on!” Joe screams as I light on.
“Merry Christmas Eve Eve!” Joe blinks, getting used to the lights.
When he does he smiles brightly tilting his head when he sees me in a green velvet dress and an elf hat..
“What is this?” He walks to me to hug me. “This is pretty amazing!”
I smile as I surround him with my arms. “And I make dinner.” I think for a second. “Sorry, we made dinner.”
“We?” Joe split, noticing the dinner set in a small table behind me.
“Lilian, Jason and me.” Joe grabs my hand as we walk close to the table.
“How did you get in?” Joe looks around seeing the Christmas lights hanging around a small area.
I pretend thinking. “You have good friends willing to help.”
Tee, Ja’Marr and BJ helped me to convince Zac to intercede for me and get a special permission.
“Should we?” Joe says with a bloated eyes but a side to side smile.
“Yeah of course.” I give him a small peek in his cheek.
The dinner is delicious, you can see it for the way Joe barely speaks until we finished.
“Delicious.” He cleaned the corner of his mouth.
“Big thanks to my mom.” She guided us through all the cooking processes.
Joe put his elbows over the table. “Why here?”
I scoff rolling my eyes. “Joe, do you know how many security cameras you have in your house?”
He laughs. “A few.”
“A few, yeah, a few.” I take out a box under my chair. “Here.”
Joe giggles, his hands on his hair.
“What is this?” I smile seeing his cheek in a soft pink.
I tremble with fingers on the top of the box. “Don't get too excited, ok? It’s not a fancy thing.”
Joe clicks his tongue. “Damn.” For after, wink at me.
“Open it.” I smirk as he takes the upper part, tiling his head confused.
“I'm lost.” He takes another small box with twelve candles, small white candles.
I point to the box with the candles. “One candle, one wish. Simple as that.”
Joe and his rich laugh is music to my ears.
“Can I begin?” Joe opened the box taking out one.
“Now?” I cough for the surprise.
“Yeah now.” He digs in the big box and finds the matches. “I'm supposed to write on this.”
He takes the small piece of paper tied to the candle and the pen, I nod. “If there is something I can help, let me know.”
Joe smiles. “One more time, how many candles are there?” He keeps writing.
“Twelve.” He folded the small paper and carefully burned it.
“Then you owe me eleven wishes.” He winks at me, but I just point the ashes on the table. “Don’t worry, this is for me, to myself.”
I lean on the table giving him a small peck on his lips.
“Merry Christmas and happy new year Joe.” He has that naughty smile on his lips.
He caresses my cheek. “Merry Christmas.”
On Christmas Day Joe made sure to send me a photo of the second candle with his wish written on it.
 >Eat well and keep healthy.
Like every year we spend Christmas in Buffalo, this year the cold and the snow are at their top.
Streets are covered in white, you need 3 minutes outside to be covered in a white cold veil.
“So, darling, your mother and Collin said you've been quite happy, these months.” Grandma said as she took out the special cake that Collin loved from the oven. “A special reason?”
I finished cutting the last strawberries she will use for decorating. “It’s not a reason, grandma, it’s a person.”
Bad time to eat a strawberry that almost killed me. “A QB.”
Grandma softly patted my back giggling. “There is a reason why Colin must be far away from wine, he tends to speak way too much.”
I take a sip of water thinking of a way to punish him as soon as he appears at the door.
“Ye…Yes. But, we’re just hanging around, dating, seeing how things work, it could be just a…” Grandma tilts her head as he takes out all the things she will need.
“Darling, darling, how many times have I told you about your Grandfather and me?” She has that face of utter love.
They met in middle school, after grandpa helped her to hide from her friends in what seemed like a cringe double date; breaking his glasses on the way, for crashing with him as she covered her face walking outside the school.
“It’s not the same.” Grandma raises her hand so she can keep talking.
“I fell in love with that guy with clear vision problems in less than 3 months, now look at us, happily married after 47 years.” She smiles proudly with a voice full of adoration.
The loud hit on the door with laughs from grandpa and Collin, makes her roll her eyes.
“Sorry! We bought it!” Collin appears in the kitchen sweating covered in snow as dad and mom carry the boxes inside of the house.
“You didn’t go for a box of chocolate bars?” I asked Collin as he drank all my water.
“It's supposed to be! But Grandpa saw the discounts and said we’ll buy a few.” He makes quotation marks with his hands. “He bought one box; for you, one for me and one for mom and dad.”
“Collin!” Mom shouted for him from the door.
He leans his head on my shoulder. “Did I mention their friends?.” He takes a deep breath. “Walking a meter on the snow it's like walking three miles.”
His breathing is fast even you can see a big smile on his face. “I’m coming!”
He runs to the door leaving a trace of snow from the kitchen to the main door.
“See, how not falling in love with him?” Grandma smiles and grabs my hand. “What I am saying is, when the feelings are real time it doesn't matter; what you feel here.” She pointed to my heart. “And here.” Then to my head. “It’s the most important.”
I see Grandpa entering with three chocolates bars, one for grandma, one for me and one for him, kissing her head.
“For you.” Grandpa takes out a dahlia from his coat.
We came back just in time for I could see the last game of the year from the Bengals, a wonderful defense even though the offense was a little bit imprecise, work for getting them to keep the win in their home.
But for Joe that wasn’t enough, you can see for the twisted lips at the end of the press conference.
“You’ll have a full week to make an adjustment. Don’t be so hard on you.” I called Joe when he texts me he’s in his home.
Joe nods and as he leans on the couch, nodding avoiding my eyes through the video call.
“Joe?” He sighs and sees the camera nod one more time. “Now, please, stop pulling your fingers.”
He giggles. “I’m tired, sorry.” He put his hand on his neck moving around his head.
“It’s ok, go and rest, I’ll call you tomorrow, ok?” I stand on my bed wanting so badly to be with him but he needs a little bit of space.
“What a way of ending the year with me, huh?” I scoff as he gets down his head, pulling his finger one more time.
“It couldn’t be better.” He saw the camera with a surprise expression. “I mean it.”
The knock on my door as Collin stays in the door distracted me.
He scrunched his face when he noticed I’m on a call. “Sorry Y/N, but it’s time.”
I nod, tonight one of my father's best friends invited us for a last dinner before New year.
I smile at Collin before he goes out of my room. “Well, time to go, too.”
I stand on the bed, ready to hang out the video call, searching for my coat.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on a second, let me see you.” Joe takes his phone like he could see it more in detail.
Switching the camera in front of my mirror Joe can see me; wearing a cute black dress, a Christmas present of Lilian.
“No way.” I can see Joe hiding his face on a pillow. “You look… whoa.”
Feeling shy and adored, that’s all I can say.
“Y/N! We’re going late!” Dad passed in front of my room screaming.
Joe mumbled a couple of things that I couldn’t hear. “Sorry, text you later, bye.”
As we get in the car Joe sends a photo with the third candle and the note.
 >See you in person. ❤️
Even though both of us knew we couldn't see each other before new year, it was still a little bittersweet situation. We have to settle with a quick call at midnight, under the mischievous eyes of my family observing me through the crystal door of the backyard.
Next morning all of us wake up really late, with the appearance we just sleep one hour; by the time I get down to the kitchen dad is making coffee with his PJs on.
“Mom?” I take four cups from the counter regretting leaving my sweater on my bed.
“Trying to stay awake.” Both of us laugh, that laugh increases when Collin enters, messy hair closing his eyes as he hits the door of the kitchen.
He put his hand over his forehead. “We should change that for a normal door, let’s get rid of the crystal door.”
Dad served three cups of coffee observing us sitting on the stool, with a smirk on his face. “Serving coffee, years ago, milk and cereal.”
“Dad!” Collin rolls his eyes. “It’s the first day of the new year, let’s not be sentimental.”
I push his arm. “Speak to the big, not sentimental boy.”
Collin cried yesterday, probably drunk as he remembered in a few months he will be far away from home.
“Whatever, Y/N, do you mind going to your grandparents' greenhouse?” Dad asked to take things for breakfast.
“Sure.”
My grandparents have a greenhouse in the boundary of the city. We spent a lot of time during our childhood; they had an amazing place where Collin and I passed such beautiful moments.
He was learning and helping, I was just observing and paying attention to the details, notebooks on my lap, taking notes.
I arrived around 7 pm, all the lights, most of them turned off.
I knocked before getting in, just the lights of the main office turned on, they left a small note.
 >We're in the one next to the big three.
I perk through the window seeing all the lights there on, I smirk, they love that place for sure.
As I walk the cold wind makes me shiver, but I notice something weird; the cold lights of always now are in warm lights.
“What are you do…” My words stuck in my mouth when I saw the lights coming from the back of the greenhouse.
As I walk in, small bouquets of flowers are situated along the main corridor, I narrow my eyes taking in one, it took me a couple of seconds realizing the bouquets are conformed of heartseases, opium poppies, bignonias and marigolds.
As I keep walking, I realize the back curtain is slightly open; the warm light coming from that spot, so I removed it carefully.
He is there.
Joe is standing surrounded by flowers and Christmas lights.
“Happy new year.” He smirks, extending his arms.
Raising my hands full of bouquets he rolls his eyes.
“I don't think about that.” Both of us laughed as I gave him an attempt to hug.
“That's why you've been so quiet these days, huh?” Joe barely replay one text, my eyes seeing lights all over the place, I understand why.
“Such nice people are your grandparents” I see a small table where I can leave all the bouquets. “And Collin that helps a lot too.”
That explains why my grandparents didn't call right away as they saw or heard Joe Burrow. “I couldn't make the dinner, I owe you that.”
“I feel lucky enough, I imagine you have been locked in the building since the very first hours of the day.” I put all my bouquets so I can have my arms free.
“Ha ha ha, so funny.” Joe clicks his tongue. “Come here please, I need your help.”
“Another wish? I can do that.” Joe narrows his eyes. “I'm in a row, 2 of 2.”
“That confident?” Joe nods.
I touch my jacket. “I'm healthy and warm and you already saw me.”
“I mean wearing that black dress.” Tilting my head Joe bit his lips.
“Believe me Joe, you have to work a little bit harder to see that dress.” I know I pinch his pride for the way he pouts.
“Sounds like a bet. I like that.” He shakes his head and focuses one more time.
Turning around he takes a small box. “You should light one candle, you know?”
“Omg, could you just open it?” I laughed, enjoying seeing him so exasperated.
I take the lid and see a small crystal ball, I scoff, imagine another flower, to my surprise it's just the small paper of the candle inside of it.
“What is this? Should I break it?” Joe chuckles, twisting around the ball to open it.
I unfold it, the number five in the corner.
 >Please say yes.
“Do you want to be my girlfriend?” Joe asked, making my eyes focus on his face.
My heart is beating fast enough to cloud any coherent answer.
“I know you probably think this isn't a serious thing, but for me this is so real, we just met for a short time, and… you have been a breath of fresh air every time I see you.” Joe scratches his chin. “I love flowers isn't a secret… you know what Ja’Marr asked me when a month passed since I met you?”
I shake my head. “Joe, how many flowers do you need?” Joe takes my hands one more. “My house was full of flowers, a bouquet in every corner, still, it takes me a lot to reach this point.”
“Joe… I… It's…” Dammit I can't form a phrase.
Joe squeezed my hand smiling at me. “Tak..”
“Where are the fourth and fifth candles?” I hit my temple on my mind. Really that's my answer?
Joe looks to his right at a small table, two candles are burning slowly with a gold glow.
“My fourth wish is please that I don’t shutter so much as I speak.” I cover my face with the crystal ball as I whisper. “What? I don't understand you.”
“Oh my. Yes!” Joe takes the ball off my face. “Yes, yes, yes! A thousand times yes.”
I jumped to hug him, he quickly lifted me from the ground, kissing me.
“No, no, put me down.” He raised his eyebrows. “I want to have a healthy QB to hug when you win the championship.”
“You're so...” I shut him down, kissing him tenderly.
“I guess I have to rush all my preparations” My useless attempt to go down failed one more time.
“Rush?” I side eye to him as I notice dahlia between the small lights, so accurate, after all we are making a compromise.
I surround his neck with my arms. “I was thinking of moving to Cincinnati after summer.”
His eyes move from my lips to my eyes. “Now probably, just probably think of doing it sooner.”
Joe cleared his throat. “You know if you need a place to stay, I can make you a space in my house.”
I give him a small peck, feeling his grip on my thighs trembling, not for the lack of strength just because he's trembling.
“Mhm, what about for quite a long time? I don't want to be the third wheel with Lilian.” Joe laughs, his rich laugh.
“Right, that will be awkward.” He fakes thinking. “Are you a good roommate?”
I hit his chest softly. “You won't have any complaints.”
One more kiss, this time more saccharine and consuming; I understand now what Lilian said, it's like we built a world just for us.
“I love to have you with me.” Joe smiles right to my lips.
I kiss his forehead. “Deal.”
What a way of beginning the year, after all Mr. McNeil has right after all, love comes right through our door
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: Omg, I just took a more detailed view to the full series and I’m blown away by the response. Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed from the very first flower until the last. 🌸

It's been years since Leopold found himself in modern day New York. An unbelievable story that sounded absolutely ridiculous when he really thought about it. I mean, falling through a time rift? It was outlandish to even think of something like that. But somehow it happened.
He was Alice coming to wonderland, except this time it was all real. He was greatly unhappy back in his time. An Uncle who only cared for money and a looming loveless marriage. He wasn't exactly eager to get back. Kate and Charlie had helped him become acquainted with this world but it wasn't for another couple months that everything really clicked.
It was a random chance, he just happened to have wandered into the library, found himself in a random aisle, and bumped into you. Literally bumped. He was so engrossed in reading that he ran right into you. Making the stack of books in your hand go tumbling to the ground. He apologized profusely, bending down to help you clean when he looked up.
Call it cliché but when he met your eyes something changed. His heart leaped, seeing your adorable smile and kind eyes. You were incredibly kind, telling him that it was alright. He looked like a fool. Not being able to utter a single word as he was taken back by your beauty.
He spotted the name tag, you worked here. He introduced himself and took your hand, kissing your knuckles as he did so. You clamed up, at first he thought he had done something wrong as you squeaked out a thank you and practically ran away from him. He'd learn later that he had just flustered you until you couldn't think.
He kept going back and each time he'd find you there. Flirting with you until the day he finally asked you out. One date turned in to another which turned in to more and more.
In a blink of an eye Leopold life had been forever changed. Instead of the life his uncle wanted he's here. Married to the love of his life and working in a small antique shop. He loves it. He really does. Getting to tinker with oddities and finding homes for trinkets. Coming home to you every night. It was a dream.
"Leo? Are you alright?" He looks up from a book he had found at some shop, an old first edition. Though he really hadn't been reading anything. He must have spent too much time reminiscing. Your apartment was right above his shop so you must have been waiting for him.
"Apologies my darling, I was just thinking." He hums as you walk over and kiss him.
"What were you thinking about?" You ask as you brush his hair back, staring into the gorgeous eyes of your husband.
"It's just, I never thought I’d be so lucky, especially not in this lifetime.” He confesses.
When his parents passed he believed he was doomed to a life that was governed by others. His own happiness was an afterthought. But then he found this time, he found you. Now everything is changed and he sees himself growing old with you. Every day is better than the last.
"You're such a romantic Leo." You say with a smile. He stands up and kisses you gently.
"It's late my love, go to bed I'll be there soon." He hums.
He steals one last kiss before shooing you off. He takes a look around his shop before turning off the light. Ready to spend another night with you in his arms.
He really is the luckiest man alive.

{ 19.12.24 } · { 50 days of routine } · { day 50 }
Hey guys, sorry it's been a while since I did a proper challenge update! I don't really see the use of doing a to-done list when I already have a to-do list I cross things off of. But my finals are now over and I can finally rest! I know I haven't been very consistent about posting, but thank you all for the support during my worst moments this semester, especially @academicfever and @lazar-codes for your encouraging comments and @zzzzzestforlife for knocking sense into me when I'm going insane 😅🥺💗
And, um, I also kind of have a big-ish life update...
I've decided to not transfer to health sciences anymore (which means i get to return to a lighter course load and catch up on the rest of my life woohoo), and I also won't jump straight into grad school after life sciences. There's a bunch of reasons for it. Most of them are just practical, from finances to "I just don't feel like I understand enough about how the real world (outside of formal education) works" and since the only way to learn is to live (that's another quote from the midnight library hehe), I've decided to do just that. And so if I ever do grad school (which I, right now, still hope is in future me's cards...if I can by that point actually, finally exercise the agency to do it and my surrounding life circumstances and my mental/emotional state make more sense), I will be doing it as a mature/non-traditional student a couple years down the line. The idea that you should have done xyz by certain ages is just...not very useful at some point. In a way, it's useful for planning ahead, but ultimately, it's completely arbitrary. It's something I've been slowly coming to terms with this year and will no doubt have to come to terms with again and again throughout my life.
In the meantime, I'll still be moving forward, just not in the way I expected, and it doesn't mean I'm falling behind while my peers go on to complete various higher degrees straight out of undergrad. It's going to be okay. I will make the most out of every opportunity I have so that I still end up with the fulfilling life I seek.
Anyways, I'm signing off for the year now. Wishing you the happiest of holidays! 🎄💗
See you some time in 2025! 🙂

Another request! I'm thinking about not posting updates to anonymous requests, and instead just pasting said request in here? I'll tag you if you didn't ask anonymously. It's easier and more neat.
🍋‍🟩 Hear me out, Josh becoming a temporary teacher for film with his own office, he often let you study in there seeing as the campus didn’t have enough study space to accommodate everyone and you become quite overstimulated on a normal day (@b3rryb3t)
This is therefore maybe a teacher x student thing, but you're roughly the same age anyway (maybe 2 years difference), since he graduated before you and has already come out with his debut movie. You're still hanging out with the friend group as well.

It’s hard to find good reading spots on campus. My messy room could be an option, but I can’t get inspired there. I need different surroundings than what I’m used to. Booked rooms are a no-go, especially now that exams are coming closer. They’re always booked, and everyone uses them. I’ve tried going to the library, but if there’s room, the place is never quiet. The librarians don't care. I get it though, everyone is stressed, and the only place you can work on a group assignment is the library. You have to talk, you have to discuss. This means that I’m still left without a spot to study. I’ve tried other libraries, other cafes and even at my friends place. Nothing works. Maybe there’s something in the other buildings? Somewhere quiet where I’ll feel content.
The first building that comes to mind is the Teachers house. A large building with some group rooms and many small study sofas. Many of the teachers have offices there, but if I'm quiet, they won’t mind. These spots are usually also taken, but maybe I’ll have a chance if I’m quick.
I walk down the hall, stopping when I see the old abandoned office. This room is usually always empty, waiting for someone to inhabit it. But it’s not empty anymore. The previously collected dust is cleaned away, the wood door has a new furnish and a brand new slide-on plate reads a familiar name. Joshua Washington.
I widen my eyes in surprise, it cannot be. Why is he here? Didn’t he already finish his degree? He just finished his debut movie, which was excellent. I saw him at one of Emily’s parties too, which was not long ago. About three weeks. He looked good then, very good. Like he felt fulfilled and accomplished. He should feel good about himself. Not many people do that on their first big project. He did talk about a new job he got, but I assumed it was another film-related gig. Was this the job?
My curiosity gets the better of me, and I carefully knock three times. The sound is beautiful, hard and dark wood which doesn’t vibrate as I hit it. I wait, hearing shuffling and metal clinking inside.
“Um, yeah, come in!”
I open the door, holding the handle hard. If I was wrong, then this would be an awfully awkward encounter. The door glides easily without making any sound. They have really improved this place. He lifts his head, meeting my stare as he does. A smile creeps on his face, eyes lighting up by the sight. I stand still, mouth agape and furrowed brows. He’s really here.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite student”
“You teach here?”
“As of this Monday, yes”
I close the door behind me, looking around the room. It’s cozy, filled with family pictures and a couple of movie posters. His diploma is also on the wall. On one surface are many small film trophies from his childhood, and in front of all of them, the price he got last year for his first debut Hollywood movie. I look around in awe, the yellow light making everything feel so professional and real.
“And by the way, I’m not your student, I take another course”
“That can’t stop me from stating that you’re in a superior’s office”
“How did you get this job?”
“They offered it to me”
“Just out of nowhere? You don’t have experience in teaching. You’re not even a professor”
“I guess my talent shines through”
I look at him and his smug face. He’s leaning back in the roller chair, feet upon his desk. Everything here is so neat, so unlike him. He also loves being able to joke like this, but honestly, I’m still surprised by the circumstances. He made one movie, and now, the university wanted him to teach a course?
“If I know you correctly, you’ll probably be fired by the next month”
“And why’s that?”
I take a seat in front of him, not surprised that the chair is lower than him. Oh, how he loves his power trips. The chair is comfortable, and suits the surroundings, but I feel small.
“Because you can’t keep your hands to yourself”
“That’s true”
“There’s only a question about time, when will you fuck one of your students, and when will you get caught”
He laughs, shaking his head as he fiddles with an expensive ball pen. He looks at me in disbelief, maybe a little surprised that I said exactly what I thought.
“Who’s to say I haven’t done it already?”
“One week into the job?”
“Maybe”
“You’re disgusting, Washington”
“That’s Mr. Washington to you” he corrects, pointing at me with the same pen. I smile at him, almost unable to hide my laughter.
“I’m not gonna start calling you that”
“Ugh, damn you”
A slight silence follows, and analyse his desk. Many, many pens, his laptop, a stack of papers and a couple of memory sticks. Again, everything is so neat. It makes me feel weird.
“By the way, I actually haven’t had a teacher-student relationship”
“You shouldn’t” I quickly shoot back. It would not be a good idea. Being in the filming industry is hard in itself, but he also has a shot of doing something more. This was not something to take lightly.
“At least not gonna with my own students”
“Jesus Chris Josh”
He laughs again, loving my overdramatic reactions. He knows what gets me to tip over, how to make me irritated and upset. Of course he’ll use it to his advantage.
“Anyways, what are you doing here? Isn’t your building on the other side of campus?”
I sigh loudly, leaning back in the chair and letting my head fall back. I’m tired, exhausted even. But just two more weeks, and I’ll be finished with the exams. My diploma isn’t far away.
“Trying to find a study spot, but everywhere is taken”
“Why don’t you just use your dorm?”
“Easy for you to say, you never lived in one”
He leans back, furrowing his brows and being deep in thought.
“You could sit here?”
I look up, surprised by the offer. Is that even okay, am I, as a student, allowed to do that? I think about it, the place is quiet, cozy and a completely different atmosphere than usual. It could work.
“Can I?”
“Of course, it wouldn't be the first time you’ve been in my quarters” he teases, leaning back over the desk.
“Haha, very funny, but are you serious?”
“Yeah, I mean, my students usually don’t come here, too busy actually understanding the material, compared to some” he points at me and my backpack. I roll my eyes.
“Well, if getting my degree consisted of knowing the on and off button of a camera, I would excel at it”
“Careful, or you might not get to study here”
“Okay, okay, sorry. You’re an accomplished producer and teacher who’s totally awesome”
“And you have to call me Mr. Washington”
I scoff at his request, shaking my head. He’s still smiling, biting casually into his lower lip.
“I draw the line there”
“Fine”
I take up my laptop, immediately starting to type. This was gonna be great. Might have some negative effects though. We’ve got a history. Too much time spent together has usually led to more uncivilised activities, but that’s not something I have to worry about now.
***
The weeks pass, and I truly enjoy his company, even if it’s in silence. He’s busy grading papers and making schedules. I’m prepping for my exams, writing, reading, and memorising. Everything was going great, and the day of the exam finally came.
I took one look over the questions, and my heart fell. What the hell was this? I did my best, drawing out a mind map to help me refresh my memory. It actually went quite well, if I do say so myself. Not the best, but I’m definitely not failing.
I walk down the hall yet again, not bothering to knock on Josh’s door. His head rises, noticing my presence, and he smiles. God I love how he smiles.
“So, how did it go?”
I close the door, biting my lip as I turn to face him again. He looks up expectantly, eyes big and round. He rises, walking around the desk to face me.
“It went great!” I blurt out excitedly, arms going out. He smiles, meeting me in a hug as I throw my arms around him. His hands go to my waist, pulling me closer against him. I bury my face in his neck, warm skin against mine, smelling his expensive cologne.
“See, you just needed a place to study”
“I indeed did”
We break apart a little, arms still holding tight so none of us leaves. He leans in, eyes lowering to my lips. I know what’s about to happen, it has happened a million times before. In his bedroom, a couple of random bathrooms, the mountain lodge, but never in an office. My finger finds its way to his lips, stopping him in his tracks.
“Mr. Washington, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Just celebrating” he whispers against my finger, hand going up to take it away. He finds his way to the back of my head, tangling in my hair as he pulls me closer.
“You can get in trouble”
“Never stopped us before”
His breath feels hot against my skin, head getting dizzy and body warmer. How long were we going to keep this thing alive?
“Fuck it” I whisper against him, capturing his lips on mine.

Joppa Stew
A commission for the lovely @the-elusive-libbin! Their commission was for 2 characters in T//he B//ad B//atch and their self-insert OC Lily! I did go over the required wordcount for what they paid lol, I just got so excited for it haha! I hope you all like it!
CW: hunger (LOTS), mild stuffing, and a couple of very embarrassed clones lol. Also this is S//tar W//ars, and I'm not SUPER familiar with it so I tried my best with the descriptions, and I'll have you know Joppa Stew IS an actual food in that universe. I did the googles its there
Hunter and Crosshair trudged into the base after a particularly long day. The mission itself had gone… fine, ish, but complications had made it go on for far longer than Hunter had anticipated. As such they hadn’t been given proper rations and well… Crosshair’s stomach has been rumbling for hours now. Not loud enough for a normal person to hear really, but he knew Crosshair was hungry.
Hunter was hungry too, if he was honest with himself. But that was rare, so he wasn’t hungry, not the slightest bit. His stomach wasn’t even growling. Or… not loud enough for anyone to hear, which is what was most important. Technically now that they were back home at the base they could eat… but Hunter had a feeling that wouldn’t be happening. He had far too much work to do, and Crosshair himself looked bone-tired. Neither of them had the energy to cook, even if they wanted to. Needed to, with the way Crosshair’s stomach was beginning to sound.
Hunter smiled at Lily as he entered the living area, and headed to his workspace against the wall. Inside, the base was a mix of military efficiency and scrappy improvisation. The main room was a large, cavernous space with rusted durasteel walls and exposed wiring, dimly lit by flickering overhead lights. On one side, a long, makeshift table made up Hunter’s workspace, and it was littered with datapads, empty ration wrappers, and scattered gear. On the other side was a more comfortable space, complete with a couch, coffee table, and Lily herself.
She was sitting on the couch there, a drawing pad in her lap, and when she looked up she blew a strand of grey hair out of her eyes as she waved at them. Crosshair was silent as usual, but waved back, then flopped down on the couch next to her, laying down so his legs hung over the armrest and his head was right next to her legs.
“Good mission?” she asked cheerfully.
“Mhm,” Crosshair grunted.
“You two were gone a long time.”
“Mhm.”
“Did you get the bad guys?”
“Mhm.”
“Did you have fun?”
“Mmmm… mm-mm,” Crosshair said with a slight shake of his head.
“No? I’m sorry,” Lily said, running her hand through his short cropped hair. “Well you’re home now, you can relax.” Crosshair grunted a laugh.
“Knowin’ Hunter he’s just gonna keep working. Reports ‘n mission logs, all that,” he said, cracking open an eye to look at Hunter. Hunter looked back at Crosshair with a tired smile.
“Someone’s gotta do it,” he said. “You rest.”
Crosshair laughed. “You know him,” he muttered to Lily, though Hunter could still hear. “Always gotta be a big damn hero.”
Crosshair fell silent after that, except for the hungry rumbling in his stomach that Hunter could still hear. It didn’t seem to be quite loud enough for anyone else to yet though, and neither was Hunter’s stomach yet, despite how hungry he was.
That’s how it went for about an hour. Crosshair dozing on the couch, Lily drawing next to him, Hunter working on mission logs and reports. The hum of a nearby generator provided a low, constant background noise, blending with the occasional drip of water from the cavernous ceiling. That, and of course all the while he can hear his and Crosshair’s stomach giving soft, hungry little gurgles. Every once in a while he felt his stomach clench particularly hard and he’d hold his breath, desperately trying to hide his hunger, and hoping his stomach wouldn’t rumble too loud. He tried to concentrate, but his mind just kept drifting to food…
Warm juicy meat, steaming thick stews, dense aromatic bread, visions of these filled Hunter’s head as he tried to work, and made his mouth water. His stomach clenched, shifting and gurgling with hunger as the images worked into his mind outside his will. It all looked so good, so filling. He took a few drinks of water, hoping it would keep his stomach quiet, but it only made his hunger sharper.
But as it turns out, he didn’t exactly need to worry about his stomach deciding to make itself known, as a loud, desperate rumbling noise came from behind him.
Crosshair grimaced as his stomach gave a plaintive growl, his face turning red. His eyes were already closed but he somehow wished he could close them more, like it would help with the embarrassment.
“Crosshair?” Lily’s voice came from above him. “Are you hungry?”
“Mm-mm,” Crosshair said immediately, shaking his head again. Maybe she would think it’s just a noise from the base. Usually the walls settling didn’t sound like a stomach, but she might believe it if–
Grooooooowwwwwlll
…If his stomach didn’t decide to do it again.
“It’s no use lying, Crosshair,” Hunter said. “I’ve been listening to your stomach rumbling for hours anyways. You’re starved.”
“Oh and you’re doing so much better, are you?” Crosshair snapped, looking up at Hunter. Hunter opened his mouth to speak, but it seems his stomach decided to fill in for him, as it too gave a starved rumble, forcing him to place a hand on his belly. He grimaced as well, and if it weren’t for his slightly darker skin then he would be just as red as Crosshair was now.
“Hours??” Lily asked, looking down at Crosshair in surprise. Crosshair laid a hand protectively over his middle and spoke, not meeting her eyes. If he had though, he would’ve seen what Hunter did, which was a small blush coloring her cheeks, and a sparkle of interest in her eyes.
“We didn’t have enough rations for this mission, it took longer than we thought,” Crosshair said. “They only give us so many for each mission, so… we ran out.”
Lily’s eyes followed as she heard Crosshair’s stomach rumble again, and he rubbed his hand over it. He could feel the vibration under his hand, his stomach was really begging now…
“When was the last time you ate?” she asked, looking up at Hunter this time. Again, that spark of interest was in her eye, but Hunter couldn’t tell if it was concern or… something else.
“Lily really, don’t worry, it’s not–” Hunter’s stomach cut him off with a deep groan, and his flush got deeper. “...Yesterday. At lunch, that was when the ration packs ran out.”
Lily’s blush deepened as her eyes immediately jumped to his belly, and it confirmed Hunter’s suspicions. She was enjoying this. She did seem concerned, a bit, but there was some part of her that seemed to enjoy their hunger. He smirked a little, and watched as her eyes grew a little wider when he placed his hand on his stomach, and started rubbing it.
“Wow, you must be starving,” Lily said, her eyes still trained on Hunter’s stomach. Crosshair pulled a face however, and shook his head again.
“It’s really not bad, I’m not that hungry,” he said. His stomach gave a low moan however, rumbling out its displeasure plainly. He sighed and punched a fist into his stomach, swearing under his breath.
“Well don’t do that!” Lily exclaimed, and she quickly pulled Crosshair’s arm away and put her hand on his belly, giving it soft, gentle rubs. She could feel his stomach growling under her hand, starved rumbles making his way through his abdomen even though not all of them were audible. He felt just as hungry as he sounded, and her face flushed even harder as she stared at his belly.
Crosshair himself however stared up at her in confusion, looking from his stomach to her face and back again. It felt… good, to have her rub his belly. He hated it, in a way, his stomach growling was just so embarrassing, but her rubbing his abdomen… that might not be so bad. It certainly helped with the feeling of hunger at least. It didn’t exactly ease his hunger, but the pressure felt rather nice.
At least, until it caused a deep, starved growl to erupt from his stomach, so loud that she could surely feel it in her fingers, and he could feel it reverberate in his ribcage. He pressed his hand over hers, pushing her hand deeper into his stomach as he gave a small groan alongside his stomach. Hunter was right, there wasn’t much use in denying it anymore. She could feel it just as much as he could.
“I’m starving,” Crosshair mumbled.
Lily herself felt like she could barely conceal her excitement. The feeling of Crosshair’s stomach against her hand–was she gonna pass out? Fainting from hunger that’s not even her own, how silly that would be! How red was her face? It felt like it was on fire. She was going to combust, right here on the couch. Maybe the smell of the smoke would make their bellies growl louder…
Lily shook herself and snapped back to reality, looking down at Crosshair’s belly rumbling against her hand.
“Y-You poor things!” Lily exclaimed, putting a hand to her cheek in an attempt to get it to cool down. “I should make you something to eat! Y-You both must be too tired to make anything–I-I can make whatever you want!”
“Joppa stew,” Hunter said immediately. Crosshair and Lily looked back up at him in time to see him clutch his belly as it growled at the mention of the food. He kept his eyes on Lily though, an analytical look in them.
“J-Joppa stew?” she asked.
“Doesn’t that take an hour or two to make?” Crosshair spoke up. “Couldn’t we–”
“No, no I think what we really need is some Joppa stew,” Hunter said, giving Crosshair a look. Crosshair frowned at him, but nodded.
“Yeah, uh, actually that does sound pretty good right about now Lily,” he says. His stomach rumbles again, clearly disagreeing and definitely wanting something at more of the NOW time, but Lily jumped up anyways.
“I-I’ll go get started!” she said, and she scurried into the kitchen area. Crosshair swung his legs off the armrest and sat up, glaring at Hunter.
“What the hell? I’m damn near starving over here and you go and tell her to make something that will take until midnight to get done?” he says. His middle gives another growl and he gives it another punch, snapping at it under his breath as his face turns a brighter red.
“She told ya not to do that,” Hunter said, gesturing at the fist in Crosshair’s stomach. “And if you hadn’t noticed,” he said, leaning down to speak in a lower tone to him, “our Lily seems to be enjoying this.”
Crosshair frowns and looks up at him.
“Enjoying what?”
“This,” Hunter says, pressing a couple fingers into his stomach and causing it to growl deeply. Crosshair’s eyes widened, but he looked at Hunter like he was crazy.
“I–What? No, she’s not–” he looked in the direction that Lily left, then back at Hunter. “Is… is that why she put her hand…?”
“Don’t act like you didn’t enjoy that too,” Hunter said with a laugh. “I saw your face. You liked that just as much as she did.” He gave Crosshair’s belly a poke, earning a distressed gurgle in return. “Who knew the tough guy here liked belly rubs?”
“Shut–I do not!” Crosshair snapped, but his face turned a brighter red than it had all day. Another growl erupted from his abdomen at that moment, and he quickly clutched his middle and stood up. “I’m going to the kitchen.”
Hunter laughed and followed him in.
The kitchen corner of the base was a modest but functional setup, tucked away in an alcove near the common area. It had clearly been pieced together from salvaged parts and repurposed equipment. The centerpiece was a battered but sturdy cooking unit, its surface blackened from years of use. The controls were a mix of original knobs and makeshift replacements—some patched with tape, others replaced with scavenged components from droid panels.
A few shelves lined the walls. They were stocked with an eclectic mix of supplies: ration packs, jars of pickled alien fruits, vacuum-sealed grains, and an assortment of spices in mismatched containers. Hanging from hooks along the wall were an array of cooking utensils, from long-handled ladles to a thin knife for precision cutting.
A small, round dining table sat nearby, its surface scratched but clean, surrounded by mismatched chairs scavenged from across the galaxy. The air carried a permanent medley of scents—burnt spices, roasted meat, and old ration packs.
Just the faint smell of food was enough to make Hunter and Crosshair’s stomachs growl loudly, reverberating around the kitchen. Both raised a hand to rub at their bellies, not that it helped much. Hunter actually knew for a fact that it only made a person hungrier, rubbing their stomach. He’d spent plenty of time nursing a starved middle when he wasn’t given enough rations for a mission, like on this one.
Lily looked up from her spot at the counter at the sound of their hunger, and she grinned widely. “I’m almost done cutting up the vegetables for the stew! And I’ll get to work on cooking the meat soon–You guys are going to love it, it’ll taste so much better than those dry ration packs. No ‘nutritional cubes’ in this, this is real food!”
Hunter’s stomach moaned desperately at this, and by this point he’d learned not to take his hand away from his middle. Not only did it help just for rubbing it, but Lily seemed to be particularly entranced when he did so. He pressed his fingers into his belly, causing the growl to be drawn out for longer, crying out so desperately for food.
“Damn, you really are hungry, huh Hunter?” Crosshair teased. He was sitting at a stool by the counter, directly across from where Lily was cutting up the food. Hunter sighed and sat next to him.
“Starved,” he said, unwilling to deny or avoid it any longer. “My stomach’s been growling non-stop all day. Even last night, when I was trying to sleep. I’m surprised it didn’t wake up Crosshair in the middle of the night with how loud it was.”
“It was loud?” Lily asked, dumping the vegetables in a pot of water. Hunter smiled.
“Not as loud as it is now, but it was rumbling so much it felt like my stomach was shaking,” he said. “I bet if you touched it now, you’d feel it shaking.”
Lily nearly dropped her cutting board trying to set it down, squeaking a little in surprise.
“I-If I touched it!?” she squeaked. “O-Oh my–you–I–um–”
“You know I think you’re right, Hunter,” Crosshair said, laughing a little. “I think she does like this! You like this don’t you?”
“Wh–I don’t know what you’re talking about!!” Lily stammered, and she quickly turned back to the pot on the stove and stirred the broth, letting steam fill the air. The smell caused Crosshair’s belly to growl deeply, making him press his fist into it rather hard. He seems to have compromised punching his stomach with simply being rough with it. Still, Lily didn’t seem to think that was enough.
“I-I told you to stop that!” she said, her voice somehow still nervous but stern at the same time. Crosshair rolled his eyes at her.
“If you want someone to be gentle with it, you’re gonna have to find a gentle person to do that instead, I’m too hungry to be patient with it right now!” he snapped. Hunter raised an eyebrow.
“Crosshair, you can just tell her what you want, you know,” Hunter said. “She clearly likes rubbing your stomach already, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind doing it again.”
Both Crosshair and Lily went so red in their faces Hunter was sure they’d both combust into fire right in the kitchen.
“WHAT–No, no I do not need any more–I’m perfectly fine!” Crosshair stammered quickly, but his stomach gave another desperate growl at that moment, so loud that it echoed around the room. In that moment Crosshair sighed and rubbed his brow, still red in the face but also still unwilling to admit what he wanted. Hunter laughed and addressed Lily.
“He did like what you did back there. He won’t admit it, but if you rubbed his belly after you were done with the food, I’m sure he’d be happier than ever. Or, as happy as Crosshair can get,” Hunter said, nudging his friend in the shoulder. Crosshair looked at Hunter with a glare, as he so often did, but his eyes softened when they fell on Lily.
He shrugged, as if to say “he’s not wrong.”
And Lily grinned widely, her face still flushed, and started again on their food. They teased each other over how loud their stomachs were beginning to be as the cooking process went on, Crosshair and Hunter both swallowing hard as their mouths watered, desperate growls filling in any space not occupied by words. Just when they thought it couldn’t get worse though, Lily started cooking the meat.
The sound that their stomachs made was so loud that Hunter was certain he could feel it in the chair he was sitting on, and he was only barely keeping himself from drooling. He was so hungry, all he could think about was how desperately he wanted that food. His stomach whined and pleaded for it, growling like a starved animal in a cave.
And when the food was finally placed in front of him… you’d think those two hadn’t eaten in days. Especially Crosshair, who’s stomach was now being rubbed by Lily, only coaxing more and more famished growls from his belly.
“Fuck, I’m so hungry,” Crosshair moaned as he ate his stew quickly. His stomach grumbled heavily under Lily’s fingers, growling loudly even though he was eating, like it was digesting so fast he couldn’t keep up. They had second helpings. Thirds. Fourths. Crosshair himself needed a fifth, with how desperate his stomach had become from Lily’s gentle rubbing.
By the end their bellies had swelled out so much they stuck out tight against their uniforms, gurgling happily with all the food packed inside. Hunter felt Lily reach out and give his swollen middle a soft rub, and he smiled at the quiet gurgles it emitted. Lily led them back to the couch with a smile, and she had them lay down next to her, rubbing their swollen bellies until they finally got the rest they deserved.

snippets from Rookie II
Viago teaches Rook to make some poisons. Rook notices his shiny new dagger.
Rookie set down the vials at the workstation Viago gestured at, before going to retrieve the box of clean spare gloves he kept at the end of the table. "So who else did you meet at the party? Were all the other Talons there?"
Viago sighed but answered her. "About half of them. We try not to turn up all at once if we can help it. The last time that happened, that rogue assassin from House Arainai took out half the Talons."
"I've never heard of that!"
"Yes well, it was before your time," he said absently, changing his own gloves for a clean pair, "And I was just a novice then too."
"Did they ever catch him?"
"No. They never did. He was picking off prominent Crow leaders one by one, and then one day, he simply stopped. The Talons were his last target. And then he seemingly vanished into obscurity." Viago waved his hand dismissively. "It's all very dramatic, as Crow stories usually are. I wouldn't pay it any mind. You are not important enough to be on his hit list."
Rookie chewed her lip. "But you are, now."
"It appeared to be motivated by revenge. He was taking out the crueller leaders of the Crows. As I said, you and I have done nothing to him. I wouldn't worry."
"But you do worry about someone poisoning the pot of eye shadow Teia sent to me."
"That's a different story, Rookie. House de Riva has no shortage of enemies looking to test me by poisoning my most mouthy Fledgeling."
Rookie grumbled as Viago handed her a tiny spoon. "I milked some adder venom this morning. You'll need to strain it like I showed you last time, and then add exactly two spoonfuls into each vial."
"Yes, Viago."
She dutifully found the equipment and began the process of decanting the venom while Viago took out a chopping board to start preparing the other ingredients.
They worked in companionable silence for a while, each focused on their own work, when Rookie noticed an ornate knife laying on the side table near the doorway of the room. It was half wrapped in a silk handkerchief, with an unfamiliar emblem on it.
"Is that new?" she jerked her chin in its direction.
"Hm?"
"The dagger?"
Viago barely spared it a glance. "Oh, that. The Dellamorte boy gave it to me at the party."
"... As a gift?" Rookie looked at him askance.
"I don't know. I suppose so. He cornered me in the gardens and pushed it into my hands, barely stammered a couple words and then ran off."
Rookie mouth opened in silence. She took a few moments to think of the right words. "Are you close with him?"
"Hardly. But he's one of Caterina's grandsons, and she parades them around any chance she gets, so he's difficult to avoid."
Rookie leaned against the table. "You know that sounds like a courting gift. A confession."
He looked at her then. "Don't be ridiculous. I think it was some sort of apology Caterina set him up to do. Maker knows there's been enough drama in the past between Houses that there's probably one due."
Rookie shook her head in amusement but didn't press the subject. She refocused on her work, tongue poking out as she squinted at the tiny spoon. It was much more difficult to work with the tiny instrument with gloves on, but Viago always insisted for safety. Still, it would have helped if he'd gotten some smaller sized gloves. There was an embarrassing amount of extra fabric flopping loose at the end of her fingers.
"What do you plan on doing with it then?" she asked, carefully measuring spoonfuls of the venom.
"I was just going to add it to the treasury."
"Well… if you're not going to use it, can I have it?" she said cheekily.
Viago paused. And then to her surprise answered with a "I don't see why not." He waved his hand at it. "You can take it with you when we've finished brewing. Can't say House de Riva isn't using the gift then," he muttered under his breath.
"Thanks Viago!" she beamed, "I'll consider it an apology for you never taking me with you to these parties!"
He snorted and shook his head. "Ask me again when you're older and maybe I can start sending you in my stead. Now hurry up and finish measuring, silly girl, or we'll be here all day."

YOU WHAT ...!!!
A few hours later, Bruce and his faithful butler, Alfred Pennyworth, returned to the mansion. First they went to see Grayson in the prison, first to find out his current situation and then to tell him about the state of health of his two younger brothers. After taking more than twenty minutes to calm him down, he promised him that he would do everything possible to get him out of there with his name cleared, and that he would keep him up to date on the health of his brothers.
Fortunately, both Jason and Tim Drake would only be under observation at Gotham General Hospital for one night. Jason only had a few scrapes and a mild concussion from jumping off the motorcycle he was riding to avoid being crushed. And Tim had been accidentally pushed off the stairs by a pair of students who were running, only managing to get a fracture in his right ankle. Which he could have avoided if he wasn't walking in his sleep.
So the only thing Bruce Wayne wanted at that moment was to have a comfortable dinner and sleep until the next morning, without any worries...
- Father.-
Oh no. He looked up surprised. He had forgotten about his youngest son. Damian.
- Damian.-
From the posture of his biological son, Bruce knew that a catastrophe was coming, which he did not want to deal with. He was tired, worried about the situation of the rest of his boys, he just wanted to eat and sleep.
*PAS*
A recently closed door made him realize that there was one more person.
- Good afternoon, Mr. Wayne! - The newcomer greeted very cheerfully.
- Jon.- He smiled very barely, while trying to remember if his son had mentioned anything about his visit.- Good afternoon.-
- Ahem, now that they've exchanged pleasantries.- Damian took out a folder and handed it to his father, while taking his best friend's hand.- Instead of getting into a useless conversation, I'll make it clear that approximately an hour and a half ago.- He looked at the watch on his wrist.- Jonathan and I have formalized and consummated our marriage through civil means.-
To say that his jaw dropped to the floor was an understatement. He looked at his 16-year-old son, whose stage of rebellion began since his childhood, then he reviewed the documents, finding them in order (and therefore, legal and legitimate), to finally look in disbelief at the friend of his headache, of barely 13 years old.
Who took a couple of steps back from that look, and got nervous to play with his index fingers.
- Dami told me that he would give me a box of instant noodle soup if I said yes.- The youngest Kent justified himself.- Am I in trouble? -
There was only one question running through the man's head.
Why?
- Father, given your insistent reminder about the limits of my actions in this your house, I have chosen to comply with one of the clauses that you imposed: be of legal age, or change my marital status from single to married.- The newlywed then responded, to the silent question.
- We brought you some cake! - Jonathan spoke out of nowhere, who didn't seem to be reading the mood of the room.- Dami wanted coconut, but the lemon one was delicious.- He let go of Damian's hand to head to the kitchen.- In fact, I'm going to eat a little more.-
Once they were alone, Bruce could only say one thing, which expressed everything he had inside.
- DAMIAAAAAAAAAAN!-
Moments later, an ambulance pulled away from Wayne Manor.
- Do you think your dad will be okay, Damian?- Kent asked, somewhat worried.
- Yes, don't worry, Habibi.- He took his hand and kissed it.- Now go back to your house and go to sleep. See you tomorrow.-
- Okay.- He took flight and waved goodbye.- See you tomorrow, Dami!-
- Don't forget to brush your teeth.-

~*~BONUS~*~
The next day both families met to discuss the current situation of their minor children. Of course, if that's what you can call the cat-and-dog fight between Bruce Wayne and Lois Lane.
- Lois, Bruce. Wouldn't it be better to calm down?-
- SHUT UP CLARK/SMALLVILLE!- The two yelled at him.
The aforementioned just shrunk in his seat, watching as they continued to yell at each other. While Alfred stood next to where Damian was sitting, with a tray of tea.
- Are you enjoying the show, young master Damian?-
- It's a family reunion, Pennyworth.- He responded while bringing a cup of tea to his lips.- The first of many more.-
Jonathan, who was devouring some cookies, turned around and whispered quietly to his husband.
- What show are you talking about?-
