DMC5 is definitely a cool and fun game but I feel like it really goes out of its way to make it harder to learn how to actually play it
I mentioned on stream last night the part where there's moves like Nero's Max Act that want you to time things but it doesn't actually give you any indication of the timing (so aside from learning the timing itself you also have to figure out when the appropriate time is through...trial and error? I guess?)
But with Dante in particular with all his different weapons it's got a thing where most of the various movesets have moves with similar functions that all have different inputs
Like. You start with Nero and he's got a gap-closer on forward + X and a launcher on back + X, then in the air you have your normal air combo and back + X becomes a ground slam, so you're like "ah, I see, this is my elevation-change input"
Then you get Dante with Devil Sword Sparda and on the ground it's the same, all well and good, but then in the air your only X input is a ground slam and your air combo is on Y (but only when you're in Swordmaster). Alright fair enough I suppose this is a different character let's try his other weapons.
His second weapon, Balrog, still has a gap-closer on forward + X, and back + X is - a mode change. Which then has a launcher on forward + X. And when you're in the air punch mode has the air combo on X and a ground slam on Y, but kick mode has the air combo on Y and a ground slam on X why are these different.
You unlock Cavaliere and it changes it up again where back + Y is a launcher, and back + X in midair actually goes further up instead of down... I haven't got the fourth weapon yet so we'll have to see what shenanigans that one pulls.
#technically I think when you first play Dante he has Rebellion instead of Sparda but the game doesn't actually swap back to that on replay#so I don't know what Rebellion's moveset is like. and then it becomes Devil Sword Dante.#which. the way it changes up your weapons and such on you in the first run is ALSO not helpful#my hotter take is that you could actually drop Dante's style system entirely#put weapon switching on the D-pad so you can swap in either direction#Swordmaster on Y. Royal Guard on RT. Gunslinger on LT. incorporate Trickster in his normal movements on A

Just beat Devil May Cry 5...
SPOILERS!
Now, this game was a trip! So, here's the story (At least up until a certain point, because I'm not gonna ruin the whole game for you):
You start off as Nero (suddenly less whiny by about 80%), who is now missing an arm because some demon steals it to get a very familiar sword,
doing a job with Dante (AKA the hottest old man we've seen yet) and his two best gals, Trish and Lady (just standing there, looking as hot as always)
and mysterious newcomer named "V" (Who looks like he should be lead singer of an emo-punk band), who has command over three demons: Griffon, the wise-cracking Iago rip-off; Shadow, the cuddliest weapanther (that's weapon-panther); and Nightmare, V's tar ghost impressionist.
The job? Stop the ressurection of a demon king. Why does this sound familiar?
Anyways, it turns out the baddie is no joke, as he's smacking around Dante and Nero like Goku did to Frieza. You know what I'm talking about.
Dante gets back up for round 2 and V and Nero escape. ...It doesn't go well.
1 month later, we got demons still smashing up the city; though, no human in sight. Nero, teaming up with a foul-mouthed hot-headed gunsmith named Nico, charges in and begins their assault on the demons, killing bug and reaper demons alike.
Nico is armed out with Devil Breakers, gauntlets with different abilities, including shocks, concussive blasts, ROCKET PUNCHES, and ZA WARUDO! He's also got six-gun revolver and a motor sword that revs up for flames, damage, and speed.
V uses his demons to fight, but only he can deal the killing blow. Griffon shoots magic bullets and lightning, Shadow swipes with literal blades, and Nightmare, which can only be summoned with V's Devil Trigger, smashes things hard. Slow, but hard.
Dante hasn't changed too much. He still has his Devil Trigger, Rebellion, Ebony and Ivory, Berial, and a shotgun that I don't remember him getting. He's also got Styles, such as Trickster (dash movements), Royal Guard (infinite block), Sword Master (increased sword damage), and Gunslinger (powered up pistol shots).
As you go through the levels, you learn the plot: The Demon King, Urizen, is growing Qlipoths, literal demon trees that are best watered with blood. Give one enough, it sprouts a fruit that grants the demon who eats it limitless power. Enter V, Nero, and Dante, each with their own backstories, weapons, and movesets.
Nero and V split up, with Nero choosing to storm the tree-castle of Urizen and V deciding it best to look for Dante's sword, Sparda, as it may be the only hope for them to slay the Demon King and cut down the Qlipoths. In doing so, V finds Dante and Nero gets saved by a mysterious new demon!

Is this demon a dark savior, or a usurper looking to become king?
Play to find out!
