Chapter 2: Bigmouth Strikes Again
𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐘 𝐁𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐒 wasn't in a good mood that day, to say the very least. His dad had dragged him early to school for some reason. He didn't know why, and he didn't care. What he did know is that it disturbed his routine.
He usually woke up by his dad's noisy way of getting ready for work – groaning from the living room, where he slept, and he'd demand his morning beer. If he even bothered, Henry would eat something as he waited for Belch to pass by his house to pick him up – a farm located at the outskirts of Derry. He'd get on his seat – which was of course, at the front, and they'd talk shit. Like they always did, although Henry chose most of the time to remain silent, always too moody in the morning. On the ride they would blast music, driving recklessly around town while the townsfolk would shout curses at them to turn the damn volume down.
But not today. And he was pissed. On the way to school he was resting on his seat with folded arms, looking out the window and refusing his eyes to meet his father's.
When he arrived he was about to wait at the parking lot for Belch and the others to arrive, but his old man shot him a glare, and he instantly knew what he meant. With his head low, he reluctantly walked up the stairs, turning his head around and seeing his oh-so great son-of-a-bitch dad watching him like a hawk, his stoic and hateful eyes hiden behind his round sunglasses.
How much he wanted to fucking punch him right then and there, but he knew he couldn't. He didn't want to admit it, but he was weak against him. He could never manage the courage to stand up for himself, proving his point in being a paper man.
To his utter luck, he was seen by the headmaster, not managing to sneak past his office. He was given a lecture about his attitude and lack of presence, as expected.
When he was finally let to go, his immediate next destination was back outside to meet up with the others. It was the time they usually arrived, anyway. Ten minutes before the first bell rang and they had to attend their homeroom class.
"What the fu"
Just as he was about to walk outside the building he felt someone collide with his chest. If the many and unnecessary nuisances until now wasn't enough, this instantly managed to form a vein on his temple as he clenched his fist. Today was his unlucky day it seemed. He stopped himself from punching whoever it was just as he met the girl's gaze.
They both shared the same look of surprise. He studied her from head to toe, from the way she styled her hair – which looked somewhat messy – to her slightly parted lips and unironed clothes.
For some reason he didn't know what to say. She seemed... familiar, but he quickly knew she was new. He'd never seen her at any of his classes before, or anywhere else at school. Was she even the same age as him? His eyes then looked behind her to the distance, seeing the all familiar blue Trans-am parked at the usual spot. Their spot, to be in fact.
He grounded his jaw, frowning his eyebrows, as he pushed past her, not caring a bit if he pushed her or something. He almost didn't notice Tozier hiding behind her, clinging on her jacket. He snorted at that. He'd mess with him later.
"Get outta my way," he threatened.
The others were resting their weight against the Trans-am, invested in their good ol' morning chit-chat, some smoking, some not. He approached them with his head low, staring at his shoes, his hands shoved inside his jean pockets.
"Someone's in a good mood," Belch was the first to acknowledge him, noting his already grumpy attitude mockingly as he elbowed Vic to the side, who grunted in response and rubbed his side.
Henry shot him a glare. "Shut your fucking mouth," he said and grabbed his pack, shoving a cigarette between his lips and searching for his lighter.
"Fucking hell," he grumbled.
Patrick handed him his significant zippo – which was probably stolen from his grandparents. Henry took it and lit his death stick, exhailing a satisfied cloud of smoke, happy for something to easy his nerves and tremendous headache.
"Thanks."
"Did your dad give you shit again?", Vic asked after a long pause.
He didn't respond, taking another drag. "The headmaster saw me and wouldn't shut up again about the same ol' shit. Be careful in case he sees you too."
"Well, I don't think he has a problem with me. My grades are decent enough."
"That's because you're not afraid to cheat, Vic," Belch remarked.
The bleach-blonde boy scoffed in response. "I don't cheat, asshole. I, for one, have a goal I want to pursue."
"So do I, smart-ass."
"What, you mean becoming an Olympic player or something?"
"Fuck you, man. You know damn well how much I want to make it to the American League."
"Whatever."
Patrick cleared his throat as he stared forward to nothing in particular, holding back a laugh, while Henry was about to start yelling at them to shut up from beside him. "Are ya done?"
"You're one to talk, Pat," Vic grumbled under his breath, folding his arms.
He looked at him for a moment, letting out a snort of laughter. The icy stare ignored by Vic who looked down as he kicked a stone with his boot. Patrick threw his finished cigarette and patted Henry on the shoulder as he eyed his watch, passing him and starting to make his way to the building's back entrance. He was always first one to separate their morning meeting, despite Henry being the self-proclaimed leader of the group.
"Meet ya after class."
Without waiting for a response he pushed the door, walking slowly inside. He placed one hand inside his pocket, while the other ran through his mid-length hair that hang around his face.
Henry's warning forgotten, he passed the principal's office with ease. Patrick rolled his eyes when he heard his name called just as he was out of view. He could just continue his way, pretending he didn't hear him, but allas, he walked into the office.
"What is it, Mr. Corbin?", his voice dramatically switched into a much innocent one than he intended. His eyebrows lightly raised as he held his hands together in front of him.
Mr. Corbin took off his eyeglasses, stopping his work on whatever papers he had held in front of him. "Your grades," he started, sighing as he captured his facade. "You've been held back one grade. Are you on your way to make that a yearly end goal? You need to step up, Hockstetter."
Patrick stared back at him, his eyes void of all emotion. He had had this conversation with his parents countless times before. It mostly began after 7th grade, when things got more serious. They would constantly nag about his future – especially his uptight and anxious mother. He didn't care really, only choosing to live in the present. He was mostly out of touch with reality, always going with the flow. If he would magically share a similar life like his parents, that'd be fine. If he ended up tossed aside and unsuccessful, then so be it.
"I've also been informed about your attitude outside school. These aren't news, I'm afraid. You and Bowers lack motivation, without a care what you'll be doing with your life in the future."
Patrick was always twisted from a very young age, despite him not seeing it that way. He would get that sort of thrilling feeling through his veins whenever he viewed any kind of discomfort on another, more so when he inflicted it himself. It was so intriguing for him, from the way that rabbit moved so rapid and swiftly, trying to get out of his grasp. When it's escape went unsuccessful it started to make noises. Patrick would study it with round eyes, which eventually were followed with a wide smile. At that age he didn't attempt to kill it yet, and let it go. He didn't see death as a real thing, until he stumbled upon a starved kitten, it's ribs visible and it's legs weak.
He tilted his head as he stood over it, the kitty meowed at him, it's high-pitched cries filling his ears. At first he found it terribly annoying, but then he came to enjoy it. It was suffering without the care of its mother. He kneeled on the concrete and the small cat saw this as a welcome to come closer. He tried petting it for a moment and it started purring in a weird way. His fingers run along it's dry fur and he gave more attention on its neck as he grew bored. He stopped and he felt a rush of adrenaline when the cat started meowing louder as he grabbed its neck, it's legs trying to scratch him to get back down.
The corners of his mouth quirked up in an eerily smile, his eyes shinning slightly. He felt the same feeling when he squeezed the rabbit long ago, but this time he didn't stop and increased the pressure. The kitty stopped moving and it's jaw hang open, it's yellow eyes wide – too wide. He had to compose himself for a moment, releasing his hands as it fell sharpy. He was a god. A chuckle left his lips but he stopped when he heard a hault of steps from behind him.
It was a young boy that seemed of close age range by his height. He expected him to turn back around and run away, but he didn't. Patrick held a cold gaze.
"What do you want?" he asked.
The boy – surprisingly approached him. "What you did was pretty cool."
Patrick didn't expect that. He smiled again. "I do it all the time," he lied but it was mostly the truth.
The boy looked at the dead cat, then at Patrick. "I'm Henry."
"I'm Patrick."
Henry grinned, revealing a missing tooth. "Cool, wanna join me and my friends? We're on our way to throw paper towels that old lady's house."
"The one with the crazy mole on her nose?"
Henry nodded. Patrick thought about it first. He didn't really have any friends, so this was certainly a change.
"Sure, why not?"
After that he became a member of the group, soon to be the Bowers Gang. At first he wasn't as welcome, being one year older, but they became so close, they were particularly like brothers.
Mr. Corbin dragged a hang over his features, a headache starting to form. He waved towards the door, finishing: "that's about it. If you and Bowers get send here one more time, I'll have to take drasting measures. You'll get a pass this time. Mainly because it's your first time, Hockstetter. Now get your ass to class."
Satisfied, Patrick fixed his slouched back and turned around. He instantly noticed the unfamiliar girl next to the doorframe, her curious round eyes watching their interaction with keen interest, like a show being presented for her. Only she didn't applaud, and instead stood there awkwardly. Though she didn't quite fear him, it seemed, but Patrick knew that he'd have to give a good first impression then. That'd change her image of him for sure, he mused.
He walked out the office with long steps, slowing down only as their eyes met and he instinctively licked his lips when he saw that it worked.
He didn't care in hearing what the principal shouted at him just as he made his way to class, his mind only on the new victim he found and how he'd proceed next. The corners of his mouth quirked up into that same eerly smile.
Just as soon as lunch period came, [Name] went to take a seat at a table in the cafeteria, grabbing with her a weird looking sandwich and a soda. The school food definitely wasn't considered a five star meal, but she didn't have much of a choice, since she forgot to bring her own food from home.
She didn't really care much about not having anyone to sit with, although some company would be nice. She would go sit with her cousin and his friends but she couldn't really find them in this crowd. Despite the town being small, the school was pretty packed.
Just as she was about to take a bite of her sandwich, she felt someone being pushed against her back. She groaned in annoyance and turned around, ready to cuss whoever hit her.
She stopped when she noticed a boy trying to stand on both his legs, though unstable. In front of him was the large looking guy she saw with Victor in class before, who wore a hat and a sadistic grin. He was about to make another move on him but turned his head around when he heard his name from the other side of the room – Belch, [Name] heard and looked over at the origin of the call, who was an annoyed looking Henry Bowers. [Name] also noticed Victor and Hockstetter with him. As expected. She still couldn't believe that he was possibly one of Richie's bullies.
Belch glanced back at the guy who was pushed on [Name] with a piercing glare, though he didn't pay any mind on her. He then turned around and left, going back with his friends, who pushed the door opened and left the cafeteria.
[Name] looked around, wondering if anyone else saw the whole thing happened, but everyone just went on with their businesses, except maybe like three people, but they still said nothing. She raised a brow. Why didn't anyone do or say anything? Do they control the school or something? She couldn't believe it. People fucking sucked here. She looked back at him, who tried to wipe the dust off of him. His clothes were messy and hang around his body, but he quickly fixed them, along with his posture. He cleared his throat. It took a while for [Name] to notice they initiated contact, and she grew awkward knowing that she was looking at him the whole time.
She decided to break the silence. "You okay?"
He rose his eyebrows – almost surprised – and tried fixing his brown hair, which was not as easy without the use of a mirror. "Uh, yeah."
The awkward silence around them rose once again as he stood behind her while she had her head still turned around. It was growing sore by the second and she drew a leg over the seat, taking a more comfortable position.
"Who the hell was that?" she asked.
He seemed more surprised, as his mouth fell agape for a split second. "Hold up. You don't know him?"
"Um, no?"
He let out a laugh, almost not believing her words. "You're joking, right?"
She shook her head and shrugged. "Should I?"
"I mean, no but-", he continued to stare at her with a look of surprise. "You honestly don't know of the Bowers Gang?"
She didn't know how to respond, then she said, "Well, actually, I'm knew here."
Her words seemed to bring some sort of understanding as he let out an 'ohhh'. Without asking he sat next to her and stook out his arm. "I'm Aiden."
She shook it. "[Name]."
He leaned against his palm, the edge of his elbow just barely touching the table. "So you're new, huh? How come of all places you choose good-old Derry?"
"I used to live here a long time ago," she said. "For now I'm living with my relatives while we search for a house to rent or buy."
"Relatives? Who? I might know 'em.'"
"I don't know if you do, but I'm Richie's cousin and –"
Aiden's eyes widened again. It was pretty amusing how easily surprised he got.
"You're Tozier's cousin? As in Trashmouth Tozier?"
"Hey, I'd really appreciate you not talking bad about my cousin."
He ignored it, continuing, "No fucking way, dude. That guy doesn't know when to stop."
"So?", she asked as her eyes narrowed.
He waved his hands dismissively. "No – I'm just saying. He's just a pretty easy target amongst the Bowers Gang."
Just as [Name] was about to ask more, a voice called Aiden from the distance. Two girls waved at them and approached them.
"We've been looking everywhere for you," the blonde-haired girl said as she gave him a quick hug.
"Fucking Huggins thought it was funny to push me while I was about to leave," Aiden rolled his eyes. "But he immediately left. I don't care either way."
"Ugh, just ignore them. They're just dumb."
The brunette's focus was at [Name]. "Hey, you're the new girl, right? I think we share English together," she pointed out.
She titled her head, trying to recall seeing her. "Really? I didn't really notice you. Sorry."
"Oh, where are my manners?" Aiden said. "This is Jamie and Evelyn", he pointed first at the blonde then the brunette.
[Name] shook their hands, while she revealed her name to the girls. "I'm new here," she added.
"And she's Tozier's cousin," Aiden interrupted with a grin.
[Name] sighed at that as she opened her soda. "I still wanna know about that Bowers guy."
The girls sat at the other side of the table, sharing a look and then looked back at her.
"Well, it's best to say to not mess with him or the rest of his gang. Unless you're unlucky then you're fucked. It's best to just not be an easy target," Everly said.
"It's almost like the whole town fears them," Jamie added.
[Name] raised a brow. "How come they target my cousin?", she looked at the boy next to her. "Or Aiden for that matter."
He sighed. "It's... a long story."
It would be a lie if she said she wasn't curious, but decided not to push it. "Okay, well," she said between bites, "They better not mess with Richie again."
Everlyn leaned close, "I don't think you're in control of that. I'd advice you to tell Richie to just avoid them as much as possible."
[Name] frowned at that, but she didn't say more. There was something she could do, right? She took a sip of her soda and licked her lips.
Jamie nudged her friend's shoulder next to her, "Hey, let's invite her to Frank's party," without waiting for a response she looked back at [Name]. "Wanna join us on Friday? It starts at 8 pm."
She stopped chewing as she glanced at the three reluctantly. She really wasn't in the mood for that, wanting to relax the first week.
"Come on! It'll be fun! We'll introduce you to other people. That way you'll make friends or something." She placed her hands together in a pleading manner, flickering her long lashes. "Pleaseee? Evelyn will give you a ride."
Evelyn shot a disapproving glare at her, mostly because she didn't bother asking first, but it went unnoticed by Jamie.
[Name] shrugged. "Sure, I guess?", she rubbed the back of her head. "But I'll leave as soon as I get bored. I'm not really in the mood these couple of days."
Jamie rose from her seat and walked over to her, squeezing her into a hug. "Yay! I swear you won't get bored. And if it makes you feel better I won't leave your side."
Evelyn was kind enough to give [Name] a ride back home, but she didn't really mind since she gave the other two a ride as well. She thanked her as she shut the door behind her, seeing Aiden wave at her while Jamie blew a kiss from behind the window.
She walked in the Tozier residence and called out if anyone was home. She heard no response and she shrugged. Richie would be with his friends while her dad, and uncle and aunt would be at work. She threw her backpack and shoes off, going to the kitched and opening the fridge. Groaning at the vague options and the rumbling sound from her empty stomach she opted with a bowl of cereal. She sat at the living room, the blanket embracing her comfortably as she wore her pajamas. She should probably have better done her homework or study for that history test, but she really needed some sort of peace. She wasn't really paying attention to the movie, or the random commercials but she was almost shaken up by the sound of her door opening.
It was her dad. He seemed to be in a really good mood – if the wise smile he had wasn't obvious he greeted her with enthusiasm.
She quirked a brow, muching on her cereal. "Why so happy? Not that I mind."
He took of his boots, "We're having a barbecue tomorrow!", he exclaimed simply.
"Huh?"
"Cancel any plans for tomorrow if you have any."

These two are full of shit but I love them anyway. Hope they’re happy, hope to see them happy more often.
Any deep thoughts on the baftas, mama?
Don’t say ‘deep.’ It’s a four letter word here in Snowville. So obscene that I missed the entire weekend because I was busy trying to get to my barn, digging out gates to and from important places, lugging water, and looking for my truck. Today we finally got our lane cleared and I was able to get to the grocery store. Just in the nick of time too. Papa-tumblz and I were not feeling the love. I have been updated though and I’m pleased to hear that the maestro stayed home, wherever that is, and Sam and Cait were their touchy-feely, heart eyeing, thigh rubbing selves. Same old thing. 🥱

We started our morning early again, but not as early as yesterday. We are alao spending over half of our drive time today on the interstate. It does have its purposes but its also super boring.
We made our dirst pit stop of the day in Snowville, UT. Jim and I have a history with this speck on the map. 23 years ago when moving from Seattle to TN we pulled into this tiny town at nearly midnight and found a motel with a flickering vacancy sign. It was as run down as you can imagine. Apparently that hotel is still in business but from the looks of it, its worse than 20 years ago.
As we crossed into Idaho we endured through sections of boring and beautifully green thanks to full rivers and lots of farmland. We also encountered interstates that have had mich better maintenance than I-15 did in Utah.
We were finally able to get off the interstate on the outskirts of Boise as we made our way to ID 55, a beautifully scenic road that take you North through McCall, ID. But, fate had other plana for us. About 10 miles north of Horseshoe Bend, ID we encountered a broken down converted school bus that was causing a 5 min slow down. The rest of the route looked clear on the GPS. About 5 miles later we were stopped and forced to make a U-turn. Well shit, now what? No cell service so relaying on basic google maps. Decided on a route plan and fingers are crossed the road is paved.
Success!! The road was paved and in good condition. Easily saved us over an hour and we finally made it over to US-95 to go north. We followed several rivers along the way including the fantastically scenic Salmon River. The road and the river to9k us between beautiful green mountains/hills that just kept on going. At one point, you cross a bridge, and the river, and gain back an hour as you are now in the Pacific Time Zone.
Our final assent north is on the White Bird Grade. This is a long 7 or 8 mile climb that takes you up several thousand feet. If you can, take a look over the edge and see the rolling green valley below you, along with the community of White Bird. When you get to the to0 9f the grade you burst out onto the Camas Prairie. The sun was starting to get low by this point and the colors were fantastic.
Tomorrow we move drom trucks to bikes and begin to make our way east. What will the road bring you ask? Adventure. Always an adventure.

Chapter 3: Everywhere
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑'𝐒 front windows were rolled down, filling it once again with a satisfying breeze. The tired girl resisted the urge to lay her legs on the dashboard, knowing her dad wouldn't let that slide. He had just finished his pack, holding his last cigarette while driving.
[Name]'s bored eyes stared at the road. "Whose idea was it to have a barbecue at fall?"
Her dad shook his head. "Come on. Why do you have to be so down in the dumps all the time?"
"What does that even mean?"
"Just try and act happy when we arrive. It's the least you can do."
She scratched above her eye, in an effort to calm herself. It was like he viewed her as a nuisance. "Why did you want me to come with you in the first place? Don't you want to catch up with your old friend alone?", she took off her shoes and wrapped her arms around her knees, before adding, "since I bother you so much."
He sighed irritably at the comment, glancing at her. "Now why do you have to do that? You know that's not what I meant."
She stayed silent for a moment, still looking out the window. "So who is this friend?"
He didn't answer at first, wanting to resolve the small argument that began since this morning but also not wanting to bother at the moment as well. "He's a colleague of mine and an old classmate."
She leaned forward and turned the music up from the radio but her dad turned it off right after.
"[Name]," he said sternly. "Please."
She forced herself to look at him, groaning under her breath.
"I don't want to argue with you. I just want to adjust here after what happened...", he sighed. "I know you need it too."
[Name]'s eyes softened when she noticed his expression. She didn't know exactly why she woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day. Maybe it was because of the new environment or maybe the sudden lack of direction.
"Yeah, I guess so..."
They didn't say much on the rest of the ride, only asking why Richie and her uncles didn't come with them, which was answered by a rather half-assed excuse from Richie that he'd hang out with his friends.
She noticed that whoever's house they were going to was just out of Derry, being more noticeable by the sudden switch to a dirt road. She looked confused behind her, seeing the town fade a little in the distance. Trees passed them as they drove towards a rather large house. What was more noticeable was the farm house and the variety of animals roaming around. She didn't question it however, and got out the car just as they came to a stop.
She held a plastic container with some homade brownies for a simple yet enjoyable gift. They couldn't go there empty handed, so last night instead of doing nothing she thought it'd be a great idea to make a good first impression.
She took her time looking around the place, seeing the chickens and cows eating the grass. As she looked over at the house she felt an unnerving aura from it, and she hoped she was just being stupidly paranoid. It wasn't at all inviting in a way she couldn't describe. She ran after her dad when she noticed she was left behind.
She hid slightly behind him as he knocked the door. It was opened after a few moments by a middle-aged man.
"[Father name]," he said enthusiastically, greeting the both inside as he moved to the side. "Come on in."
The house was rather... glum and dark, looking completely different from the white appearance it had from outside, but it still had that stange vibe. The wall's cracks somehow revealed a hidden story behind it, as well at the holes that weren't as apparent behind the ripped wallpaper. She didn't want to judge in any way, but by the looks of the way someone "tidied" the place made it seem that no woman lived there, or set foot in that building to be exact.
"Sir, we've bring you some brownies. I hope you like them," [Name] said.
It was as if he hadn't noticed her at first by the surprised look on his face. "That's kind of you. You must be [Name], right?"
She nodded. "That's me."
"This is my daughter I told you about," her dad said proudly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "[Name], this is Butch. We were inseparable during our school years."
Butch laughed. "I have to tell you stories during that time. That reminds me, I think I remember you," he told her.
"You do?"
"Yeah, when you were about this tall," he said laughing, depicting a much shorter [Name] with his palm. "I can't believe you've grown so much. You're like a flower that has just bloomed. So beautifully too."
The smile he had when he said that ran a chill down her spine and she chuckled nervously. "Thank you."
His smile faded suddenly. "[Father name]. The thing is that I don't believe today is a good day for barbecue."
The said man rose a brow. "Oh? Why's that?"
He groaned in annoyance as he recalled something. "My stupid son forgot we have guests today and didn't prepare the meat. I should've known. He never does anything right."
"It's alright, I don't mind. We could just go out and eat somewhere in town. I'm sure your son must have been busy."
"Thanks for being understanding," he turned his attention back at [Name]. "Could you go call my son from upstairs? I don't know what's taking him so damn long."
"Sure. Um, where do I put this?", she asked and motioned at the brownies still in her hands.
"I'll take that," he did just as he said, "now go and tell him if he doesn't get down right now I'll have to drag him myself."
She didn't question it and made her way to the second floor. She felt kind of bad for the guy, but she didn't want to jump into any conclusions. As she passed the living room – which was full of empty beer bottles that weren't hidden well – she held back the need to gag at the terrible smell of nicotine.
Upstairs, she passed the bathroom and stopped at what she assumed was the guy's bedroom. She knocked the door, "hey, your dad said to come downstairs."
No answer. A few seconds passed and she knocked again.
"We're going out to eat. I don't know where but I hope somewhere good," she added jokingly. Still no answer. She hesitantly turned the handle, opening it and stepping inside. "Are you sleeping or something?"
It didn't take her long to realize the room was empty. Well, except the countless thrown clothes on the floor. The bed was unmade, but no one was laying on it. She rubbed the back of her head, confused.
She peeked her head out the door and yelled out: "He's not here!"
"What? Where the hell is that–", Butch's yell came from downstairs, continuing with a murmur while [Name] took a look around.
She approached the room, which had posters of Metallica, Megadeath and other metal bands she didn't know of, and some of women wearing inappropriate clothes in various poses, making anyone question the limit of the flexibility of the common person. There were some pictures on the selves, and upon inspection, as she grabbed one, was a group of young boys – four to be exact, having toothy grins on their faces. All except one, who instead showed the smallest smile, but not in a shy way as one might believe. She was about to look at another picture but another sound make her stop.
A loud snarky voice came from downstairs after the snap of someone shoving the door open, though not a yell but still loud. Quickly and loudly the person walked upstairs, which made [Name] almost jump by the speed when he barreled towards the room, only stopping when she was seen standing in the center. They were clearly hot happy with their visitors.
The boy's surprised expression lasted for a split second when his brows furrowed deeply, and he grabbed the picture frame from her.
"What the hell are you doing here?", he snapped.
Her legs froze on the wooden floor. She knew all well those blue eyes and stupid ashy hair. That goddamn ugly mullet.
It was Henry.
Henry-motherfucking-Bowers.
He was covered in sweat and a brown gooey substance that she hoped in God was only mud. He wore overalls this time that were tucked inside his muddy boots. Underneath he wore a tight black shirt. His sleeves were tucked above his elbows once again, but something told [Name] that this time it wasn't because of his usual fashion choice.
She crossed her arms, in a way not to show her also shocked reaction on how things turned up, "turns out my dad knows yours."
"Great, fucking great," his nostrils flared. "Another new piece of shit in this town."
She scoffed. That was uncalled for. "Oh, poor you. Like I wanted this. I would prefer to stay home rather than spend the day with you."
His anger increased, but instead he held a snakry grin. "Oh? So you already know of me?"
"Word travels fast it seems, Bowers."
She couldn't lie that she didn't keep asking her cousin and Jamie and Evelyn – and slightly Aiden, but he didn't reveal much – about him and the rest of the gang. She found out pretty quick about their acts around town and that her bleach blonde classmate wasn't how he seemed when they first met. During school he didn't dare get in trouble, but later in the afternoon he was a completely different person. The larger guy from the rest was considered the most chill of the group, despite the incident that happened the day before in the cafeteria. She was told that the other two were the most feared, Bowers and Hockstetter, even though she didn't know much about the dark heared member.
Henry's grin widened at the use of his name. He was about to say something when another shout came from downstairs.
"Don't take your sweet fucking time, Henry! We have to go!"
He flinched just meekly that it would take someone to pay close attention to notice it. He grabbed her wrist and forcefully shoved her out of his room, obviously not too happy with her in his property.
"Ow! Hey!", she yelled.
He didn't care about her almost tripping and slammed the door at her face.
In the end it was agreed they'd drive in one car instead of two, which happened to be the one [Name]'s dad was driving, resulting in a rather awkward ride between the duo of teens in the back seat. The fathers didn't seem to notice the hostility around them, chatting and laughing loudly.
She couldn't help but glance at the angsty blonde on her right every now and then, who was glued to the door, looking out the window with crossed arms. He had changed into a pair of jeans and he wore the same denim jacket. He still had that angry look on his face, as if it was set on default while his mullet was way messier than yesterday.
She was humming alongside the lyrics of Fleetwood Mac from the radio when she heard someone call her name.
"Don't be rude. Butch is talking to you," her dad said.
"Oh, sorry... Could you repeat that?", she swore she caught a glimpse of Henry rolling his eyes.
"I was just telling you about the day I met this piece of treasure here," he let out a laugh and patted her dad on the shoulder, who also laughed in response. "One time I was driving home, you know on the dirt road after Witcham Street. Yeah well, I was driving home – I was about twenty-four or five at that time – and I saw a fallen motorcycle – it was a BSA Gold Star I think. Shame, it was a beauty! Well anyway, there was a unconscious man laying next to in, and, of course, I had to check on 'im. How do you know! – it was none other than [Father name] over here!"
The girl's eyes widened, "What?!"
He laughed, smacking his knee, "I will never forget that day. This peace of shit almost gave me a heart attack,"
the other man cleared his throat, interrupting him.
"Sorry, sorry... so anyway, I rushed to the nearest hospital – and as you know we didn't have a hospital back then in Derry, so I had to drive for twenty minutes. In the end he survived with only a broken leg and he was out after five days. Your father here is made out of steel!"
She leaned from her seat, grabbing both front seats to get a closer look at her dad. "Dad, is that true?"
"Yeah, well...", he chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his nose with his thumb. "That's why you're never getting a motorcycle."
She pouted her cheeks. "Why? That's not fair."
He laughed again, this time in a teasing way. "We'll see. That all depends on your grades, missy."
"You wan' a bike? Not really ladylike," Butch informed. As if reminded of his existence [Name] sat back in her seat, her knee accidentally brushing the guy's next to her.
"I'm sure she would be fine, Butch."
The man shrugged, forgetting the subject. "Anyway, good times, good times... Nothing can rewind time unfortunately," he sighed loudly. "Enough about that, I'm sure you remember living in Derry, right? This town is anything but unmemorable."
"Uhm, hmm," she placed her forefinger on her bottom lip. "I guess a little. Maybe middle school... and me playing in the backyard..." A core memory suddenly popped into her mind. Of her mom. But she didn't want to think about her at the moment. "I also remember riding my bike, that was fun."
"That's it? I swear you used to hang with Henry over here," he revealed, looking at his son with a neutral look she couldn't describe. "Don't you remember, son?"
There was a pause of silence that lasted longer than expected. Too long, that she couldn't make out what he was thinking. Now that she thought about it more, she recalled vague memories playing in a large yard. No... it was a farm. She also remembered the animals. She chased after them too. The thing she didn't remember, though, was playing with Henry. She would surely remember a cruel bratty little devil bothering or bullying her. The other thing she remembered was a woman living there with her child that had long blonde hair and a big toothy smile, while the dad was usually absent.
"No," he finally answered, bringing her out of her thoughts.
"Huh," Butch turned his head back forward, "Maybe it was another girl."
The diner was pretty small, but also chill and welcome, not at all fancy. Perfect for hangout between dads, but not so suited for two kids that didn't get on a good start. It wasn't because of the way he bumped onto [Name], but because of what she heard. She wasn't the type of person to believe in rumors, but there must have been a reason everyone fucking hated their guts. They even bullied her cousin. That's a good and reasonable reason. Also his attitude was really getting on her nerves. He could at least act nice, especially in front of his dad.
He was behaving like a bratty kid, seating in the same way he sat in the car: crossed arms and leaned back, manspreading. He was opposite from them and next to his dad.
[Name] leaned her head on her palm, playing with her food, or in better words, her leftover crumbles. The two fathers kept talking and talking, making her zone out on most of it. They kept saying old stories and whatever new stuff happened in Derry.
She glanced over at Henry, who didn't touch his fries one bit. He was glaring at her, which she couldn't take seriously and found honestly pretty funny. She rose a brow, in a way asking him, *what are you looking at?*
This made his breathing quickler, as if trying to calm himself down. Before she did anything to make him any more mad, his dad spoke.
"Eat your food. I didn't pay this for nothing," he said, his tone completely shifted from the one previously.
Henry froze again, not daring to look at him. Instead looking down. After what felt like hours, he said, "I'm going out."
He got up and left quickly, while also not making any eyecontact with anyone. Butch's head followed after him, until he had completely gone out of the diner. The sound of the bell above, then the shut of the door followed. Butch's eyes made chills run down [Name]'s spine.
Butch parted his lips in order to grumble another snarky remark, but [Name] got up suddenly.
"Uh, I, um, gotta go out too," she stumpered out before thinking. "Gotta hang out with some friends from school."
"You made friends already? Who?", her dad asked.
"Uh, Aiden." She said, whoever came to her mind at the moment. "Yeah, sorry. I totally forgot about that."
He sighed, "Okay, fine. You can go."
"Okay, talk to you later," she said and was about to leave, before turning back around. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Butch."
Just as she departed the diner her dad thought out loud, "wait, I thought I told you to cancel any- Ah, what the heck."
She didn't realize it before but it was literally freezing outside. October came like bitch. It was obvious it'd snow any minute now.
She immediately looked around, looking for Henry, which she did, since he kicked a dumpster over, sending all the trash flying. That made her regret her decision instantly.
She stayed outside of the diner, hugging herself and shivering, staring at his back, not knowing what to do.
Then he started leaving.
Fuck.
She quickly followed after, her fast but short legs trying to catch up after him.
What the hell was she doing?
Whatever she thought before clearly didn't really matter to her anymore, but she had to find somewhere warm to go. It'd be super embarrassing to go back at the diner. The two men would probably think she was a loser and got stood up or something.
But what was happening right now would probably also be considered embarrassing, if not more.
Maybe she should just follow him secretly and learn more about his secret wicked ways? Find some sort of secret to blackmail him into not bullying Richie anymore.
Or just go home. Which was kinda far, so she'd probably freeze until then.
Her breathing became heavier from both the cold and her lazy body suddenly having to walk so quickly. Just then Henry stopped. She also stopped. She quickly realized he was at a bus stop and he took out a cigarette, lightning it up and inhaling it. He shifted on one leg and placed a hand inside his denim jacket, shivering ever so lightly. He wasn't dressed properly for the weather, yet he refused to feel any cold. He looked to the right as he exhaled a cloud of smoke.
It took her a minute to realize he had noticed her.
Shit.
"The fuck you lookin' at?"
She didn't know what else to do but to walk up to him, awkwardly sitting down at the wooden seat.
"Oh, hi," she tried to act casual, but obviously failing. "Cold weather we're having, huh."
"Are you fucked, Trashmouth no. 2?"
"Jeez, why are you always so fucking angry?"
"None of your fucking business, Missy," he snapped, using the nickname her father gave her, but sounding it way differently. "Why the hell did you follow me, you weirdo. Are you that pathetic you follow random people around just so they would talk to you?"
"No... I was just bored," she shrugged, her leg bouncing nervously. "Are you that egotistical, Bowers?"
And she used his name again.
If it were another day he'd definitely mess with her in a more fucked up way, she wouldn't dare approach him ever again, but now he wasn't really feeling it.
"Then why not just ask your old man to give you a ride home? Would make this shit all easier for me"
"Huh? Why?"
He threw his cigarette at the concrete, stepping on it with his heel.
"'Cuz I'm bored out my fuckin' mind, that's why. I wanna go back at the farm."
"Why not ask your dad for a ride then?", she placed her hands inside her pockets as a wind went past them.
He shot her a glare, yet said nothing. After a few minutes she thought to say something. Unfortunately, whatever she chose upon was too late as a bus had stopped.
Henry got on in without saying a word. Moments later she sat the alone, shivering, confused and with regret. She shouldn't have left the stupid diner.
She walked back home. Fortunately, she had brought her keys with her.

You can move. You know that, right? Right?! You can move if you hate snow. You don't have to live in snowville. Just because you hate snow doesn't mean there shouldn't be snow in snowville. Is it crack you smoke
"maybe global warming isn't all bad, at least we haven't had any snow!" Are you stupid. Are you fucking stupid.
