yay, 2024 was the first year i can actually do this with since i watched quite a bunch of stuff!

in no particular order:

dog day afternoon (1975) — flawless

reservoir dogs (1992) — flawed and absolutely, deeply lovely, hilarious, suspenseful and moving

the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover (1989) — spectacular in the literal sence, a hard to enjoy but haunting hit to the gut. pivots around an absolutely phenomenal rendition of miserere

gilda (1946) — beautiful, rich and chilling. impeccably cast. in the words of greg davies, powerful homoeroticism, i really enjoyed it. also i'm gay and, well, rita hayworth

the prime of miss jean brodie (1969) — uncomfortable and unsubtle. maggie smith is astonishing

made in britain (1982) — bleak and captivating and very visually distinct, made me want to go through alan clarke's whole filmography

funny games (2007) — clever and to the point. the first ~25 minutes in particular are so excruciating they took a few tries to get through

rosencrantz & guildenstern are dead (1990) — wonderfully engaging and a smooth ride, eminently rewatchable

snowtown (2011) — sharp, revolting and gorgeous in arkapaw's precise fashion

you can clearly see a tendency in this list haha but let me go on record saying every tim roth movie on here i enjoyed for a whole list of other things than just his performances

Cross Country Skiing in Snowtown, USA

In my efforts to make the most of Winter, I set a goal to try out cross country skiing this year. I found out last week that Watertown Parks and Rec Department offers ski and snowshoe rentals on the weekends, and decided to check it out.
