Why is everyone sleeping on the fact that Snowjanus is literally canon? Before you say anything, I have proof.

Like, one proof. Spoilers for Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes under the cut (just to be careful lol)!

Okay so. We all know that after Sejanus' death, when Coriolanus' gets back to the 'dorms' he completely breaks down. In the book the scene is obviously more descriptive as, while Coryo is searching through Sejanus' belongings he even pukes when he tries to eat Ma's biscuits. He's very much affected by Sejanus' death and he does say he feels extremely guilty, and even feels bad for Ma' Plinth.

Now. After five minutes of sobbing he calms down and understands he has to deal with the pain as a soldier, as a Snow. BUT HERE'S WHERE THINGS GETS INTERESTING. I invite you to read the following passage down here, taken from this part of the book I just described:

"The one and now only love of his life."

Don't know about you but I took it as "Sejanus was also the love of my life but now that he's dead I only have Lucy Gray". I mean, he's thinking about Sejanus just now, how guilty he feels about him. What else can this small yet fundamental line mean? Why the need to specify now if not to hint you had another lover? And, considering what just happened, I'd say it's clearly Sejanus.

I'm dead serious about this and won't hear anyone else about it 😊

I AM SO FUCKING TIRED of people commenting “read the books” on snowjanus content like bitch the fandom HAS read the book and we still ship them so where do we go from here?

The argument is always “Snow never actually cared about Sejanus and you would know that if you read the book”, which in my humble opinion, is debatable at best.

We can spend days arguing whether or not Snow really cared about Sejanus, but even IF that wasn’t true, that doesn’t mean there’s not a basis for a ship between them. And how can it not, really? With the way fandom works, if Snow saw Sejanus as a friend or not is irrelevant when Sejanus is canonically the closest male character to the protagonist. Obviously there’s going to be people interested in that relationship, real friendship or not be damned.

And again, who says people cannot ship them, even if Coriolanus never really cared about Sejanus? Have they never really heard of a toxic, unhealthy ship before?

On the other hand, I will ALWAYS defend snowjanus shippers who make fluffy content about them (and who are almost always the victims of those type of comments). The fans know the ship is toxic, just because they want to make silly edits or give them a happy ending in a fic doesn’t mean they don’t know that.

I’m just so tired of people invalidating the queer reading of this relationship simply because they cannot wrap their heads around other people seeing a toxic dynamic and still enjoying it.
