Chimkin update! :D

A new named fledgling! This is Olive; she's friends with Morgy and has started to follow my sister around like Morgy does :D She's still not quite as comfortable being held or petted like Morgoth is, though.

Morgy demands pets and attention.

Morgy and Olive together; Morgy's a bit smaller due to her scissor-beak making it more difficult for her to eat, but she's still growing well :3

Cinnamon is still putting herself in charge of watching the fledglings.

They tend to roost in pairs: Grub and Worm, Jeff and Bird, Snowflake and Pretty Boy. And then another friend that I can't see well enough to name lol

Yes, I have been given permission to name more chickens after transformers. The lavender girls are very majestic and beautiful, and I thought naming them after the Senator boys, Dai Atlas and Shockwave, was fitting >v>

The fledglings! They're getting so big!

The fledglings finally get to join their big sibs out in the coop! They're big enough that they won't get stepped on now.

One of the black-feathered fledglings is named Fortress Maximus, but I have yet to determine which one. I'm going to have to go visit again so I can figure out how to tell them apart.

Snowflake and his boyfriend/girlfriend (we're not sure yet), Pretty Boy. They're always running around together, and my sister's pretty sure Pretty Boy's a rooster too? Eh, regardless, happy pride, have some potentially gay chickens.

Huh. Well, Pretty Boy might not be a rooster, and Hennifer might be. Oh well; we're still gonna call her Hennifer. :P

The fledglings have been released.

Cinnamon panics because the fledglings have been released. "mother help, the children are escaping"

Meet our sweet crossed-beak baby, Morgoth the Destroyer. Due to her condition, my sister has to handfeed her most of the time and because of this, Morgy is very tame and loves to be held and cuddled. She'll come running when you approach the gate.

If you're unaware, crossed-beak (or scissor-beak) is a condition some chickens can be born with wherein their upper and lower jaws are misaligned. I believe it's mainly genetic, but it can be caused by injury as well. It's not always a fatal condition, but it does affect the chicken's ability to eat, which is why Morgy either eats from my sister's hand or is separated from the rest of the flock to eat by herself.

Regardless of her wonky beak though, Morgy is beloved by all of us and she will be cherished forever. <3

I am delighted to inform everyone that I have more chicken pictures. :D

Also just for further clarification, these are my sister's chickens, not mine, I just love them very much and want everyone to be able to receive serotonin from these delightful babies. My sister has given her consent to the chimkins being posted on my blog :D

Cinnamon has taken it upon herself to guard the fledglings, even though she's only about a fortnight or so older. She's a natural mother (✿◡‿◡)

The gang roosting last night. My sister's got bamboo poles up for perches and the chickens are loving it. The two white ones closest to the camera I believe are our lovely gays, Snowflake and Pretty Boy.

I am absolutely delighted to introduce you all to the newest named member of the family; Fortress Maximus. I have been waiting for the perfect chimkin to name after my baby boy, and this little friend with their white wings shall be given the honor. :3

For anyone who's curious (@devilchiara asked on my last chimkin post), we have, including the newest clutch, about seventy chickens. And yes, the number terrifies me as well. I'm hope my sister knows what she's doing. o-o

It's best to have a rooster to hen ratio of 1-10 -one rooster per every ten hens -so I think we're okay for now, but if they end up getting rowdy my sister plans to build them a "bachelor pen", since so long as there aren't hens to fight over, roosters are pretty chill with each other.

She follows her mother to the food bag so she gets to eat by herself >v>

My sister said a day or so ago that she pulled up to the house and Morgy had already escaped the pen and come running towards her. Very cute and sweet, but like, girl. There are foxes out here. Please be careful.

Morgy was briefly put in chicken jail to prevent her from escaping the pen, but my sister didn't have the strength to keep her in there because she just looked so sad :C

She wants to be close to mother and the house! Here she is in the garden and being held <3

My sister plans to get her a small coop to keep in the garden and have her and a sister or two in there, closer to the house so she doesn't try to run off.

Morgy is truly the sweetest lil chimkin ever and we all love her <3

I visited the other day and was allowed the honor of petting her. Before Nugget came over and tried to eat my fingers, that is. Goddammit, Nugget.
