Had a real weird reading month, but here we go anyway
The fine The Blue Fox by Sjon: the epitome of "well! that was certainly a book!". Pretty sparse but for me personally the prose wasn't good enough to be sparse. Counted toward my Reading Around the World Challenge for Iceland
Sweet Days of Discipline by Fleur Jaeggy: not as messy as I wanted it to be, but still love that genre of book/film that's like obsessive girlhood friendships. RATW Challenge for Switzerland
You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian: look, this was cute and I generally really like Cat Sebastian books and I like the 1950s setting.
Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice: great concept but so-so execution. I don't think I would have liked it as much if I hadn't listened to the audiobook. RATW Challenge for Canada
No Word from Gurb by Eduardo Mendoza: I googled "books for fans of The X Files and this came up, specifically for fans of the episode "Jose Chung's From Outer Space". Very silly, very quick, this was pretty enjoyable. RATW Challenge for Spain
The good:
One Hundred Poems by Seamus Heaney: I am a #HeaneyHead for life
currently reading a Dan Brown book (whatever! it's summer!) and Ship Fever by Andrea Barrett which is beyond beautiful so I'm really savoring it

"Do You Remember That Night?" by Eugene O'Curry (read in English and in Irish by Aidan Gillen)
"Do You Remember That Night?" by Eugene O'Curry
Do you remember that night When you were at the window, With neither hat nor gloves Nor coat to shelter you? I reached out my hand to you, And you ardently grasped it; I remained in converse with you Until the lark began to sing.
Do you remember that night That you and I were At the foot of the rowan tree, And the night drifting snow? Your head on my breast, And your pipe sweetly playing? Little thought I that night That our love ties would loosen!
Beloved of my inmost heart, Come some night and soon, When my people are at rest, That we may talk together, My arms shall encircle you While I relate my sad tale, That your soft, pleasant converse Hath deprived me of heaven.
The fire is unraked, The light unextinguished, The key under the door, Do you softly draw it. My mother is asleep, But I am wide awake, My fortune in my hand, I am ready to go with you.
An Cuimhin Leat An Oíche Ud?
An cuimhin leat an oíche úd Do bhí tú ag an bhfuinneog Gan hata, gan laimhne Do do dhíon, gan chasóg?
Shín me mo lámh chugat Is rug tú uirthí barróg Is d'fhan mé i do chomhluadar Nó go labhair an fhuiseog.
An cuimhin leat an oíche úd Do bhí tú agus mise Ag bun an chrainn chaorthainn Is an oíche ag cur chuisne?
Do cheann ar mo chíochaibh Is do phíob gheal dhá seinm, Is beag a shíleas an oíche úd Go scaoilfeadh ár gcumann!
A chumainn mo chroí istigh! Tar oíche ghar éigin Nuair a luífidh mo mhuintir, Chun cainte le chéile.
Beidh mo dhá lámh i do thimpeall Is mé ag insint mo scéal duit Is gurb é do chómhra suairc mín tais Do bhain radharc Fhlaithis Dé dhíom!
Tá an tine gan choigilt, Tá an solas gan mhúchadh, Tá an eochar faoin doras Is tarraing go ciúin í.
Ta mo mháthair ina codladh Agus mise i mo dhúiseacht. Tá mo fhortún i mo dhorn Is mé ullamh chun siúl leat!
