Sorry for the sloppy picture (just ugh I can’t picture today lol), please click to enlarge it!
In Attack on Titan Junior High - I remember when it was airing - people were really excited about the notice board with the 104th’s faces being drawn by the other characters and wanted to know who drew what. So, if you’re still curious, here you go!

I'm pretty sick of seeing these "parallels" posts about snk and snkjh, because it's just not cool anymore. They aren't even parallels. They're rip offs of the original scene just in less quality. It's annoying and unoriginal and disapointing that the only way they thought they could make this anime a success is to put as many canon scenes into the chibi universe as possible. It could have been so beautiful... and I'm so disappointed, cause I looked soooo forward to this anime, since the manga was so nice!

Some Extra Attack On Titan: Junior High Thoughts
I said I wouldn’t write up on it more, but I thought AoTJH would be at least a cute distraction. It’s brand of humor really got to me with episode 2, though. It was really (unexpectedly) hard to sit through episode 2 for me. It really is literally, “Look, here’s this scene from the series!” every scene - it didn’t even get a small smile out of me, I was just annoyed how lazy the humor was. I’ll just drop it (I can always pick it up when I see it doing something interesting/crazy/unexpected). Even the preview annoyed me. Playing the same jokes straight or putting the same scenes in a different setting doesn’t really make them funnier to me.

First episode impressions
Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou: Okay, I enjoyed it. Probably will watch the rest for shits ‘n giggles
Kagewani Different than expected, but interesting. Looking forward to the rest of the series. The MC (?) seems like an interesting dude
One-Punch Man “Why is he called On-OHHHHH THAT’S WHY” Love it, the animation is nice, style is fun and exiting to look at.
Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I thought that it looked nice and I was really looking forward to the MC, but after a few minutes I completely lost interest. It felt like I watched 24 minutes of nothing, same thing happened with Rolling Girls. Shame, I really wanted this to be something good (it still might be). Probably dropping after a few eps.
I’m still waiting for Kowabon,  Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider and  Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru

So, because the booklet from the Junior High limited edition bluray is so small (The “Eren Jaeger Year 1″ Journal shown above), it’s a bit hard to take quality pictures (at least for now, until I can figure out a good way to keep the pages apart without ruining the book). But the Directer’s notes in it are really enjoyable to read, so I thought I would transcribe them in the meantime. I typed the words up verbatim so excuse weird name spellings (yes, they’re in there lol). Hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did! The remaining episode comments are under the cut.
Episode 1: Starting School!
First, the opening song! I’m so very pleased with Revo’s incredible parody song and Mr. Nishio’s wonderful animation. My favorite parts in episode 1 are when Marla says “have a good day” and Marco says “nice to meet you.” I included these bits to show how tremendously different this world is from the world of the original show. Having Thomas get eaten and then spit out was another way of referencing the original show while taking things in a different direction.
Episode 2: Chasing!
Armin and Levi debut in this episode. It was a little greedy of me, but I wanted to introduce the characters sooner than they appear in the manga, so I set the stage for them here. The Levi Squad and the Scout Regiment also make their debut. After the horrible things that happened to them in the main series, we got to see all these members alive, well, and enjoying life. From this fact alone, I feel that this episode justifies the creation of this spinoff series. “Tiger says♪ that the bees ate the bagel ♪”
Episode 3: Dodgeball!
This is Annie’s episode. I feel the manga story is very funny on its own, but I decided to add some parodies to the main series to it. Annie’s reveal was scary before, so for this spinoff I asked for the kind of charming reveal that you’d never see in the main show. I was also amazed by the power of Mr. Sawano’s musical score from the main show. I never would’ve imagined the the power of music could turn a silly game of dodgeball into something so epic!
Episode 4: Cleanup!
A key piece of the “Attack on Titan” puzzle, the omni-directional mobility gear, makes its debut. As the head of the wall cleanup club, it’s quite possible that Rico will get more screen time here than in the main show. I included many other references to the main show, including the way Rico runs, the ODM gear training, and Hannes’ soulful cry. Around this point, I predict that many viewers will begin to see how Bertholdt is portrayed in the spinoff.
Episode 5: Studying Hard!
The papers on the notice board play a small part in this series. In the first five episodes, the board is covered in calligraphy sheets that answer the question, “what is your favorite food?” These are replaced with the students’ portraits in episode 6. Our staff members meticulously assumed each character’s role as they drew these pictures. Also, the school song is displayed next to the clock. It has three full parts to it, so I hope you’ll pause the video and check it out whenever there’s a good shot of it!
Episode 6: Love Letter!
Jean is true to his wants, so I made episode 6 with the idea that in this peaceful world, he’d probably be delusionally fixated on being popular with the girls. I definitely think Jean’s adolescence would be highlighted by thoughts of “does this girl like me? Does that girl like me?” Also, many junior high students these days have an extra circle of cram school friends outside of normal school. As an example of this, Annie studies Titanese at a cram school and even has titan friends. Cram school is really something!
Episode 7: Showdown!
I think every school has its own weird, unique rules concerning upper grades and lower grades that get passed down from one year to the next. These rules lead to confrontations, then reconciliations. I didn’t want to make anyone the “bad guy” in this episode, so I used the idea of those unwritten rules to give the upperclassmen a charming, childish bossiness instead. Oruo’s character fit the bill so incredibly well in this situation!
Episode 8: Spine-chiller!
It took a while, but Erwin finally makes his debut! I feel like this episode has the most successful jokes in this gag anime series. Between things like Frieda’s early introduction, Mr. Isayama’s face, Mikasa’s deadpan narration, and Levi’s -----, there are so many things that deserve a special mention. Personally, though, I really enjoy the role reversal in Ymir and Christa’s relationship. Thanks to her sobbing, Ymir comes across as very endearing and cute in this episode.
Episode 9: Sweet Summer!
I love this episode. All of the misfortune given to Bertholdt in this spinoff was meant for this episode. I’m charmed by Reiner’s misguided love coaching and Bertholdt’s earnest attitude. The fireworks part was an opportunity to add the kind of emotional moment not normally found in this series. I haven’t been told what happens after the current part of the main anime series, but I hope this group finds the love they want.
Episode 10: Recommendation!
Ilse and Marco never interact in the main series, so this episode really highlights what makes the spinoff so unique. I’m so glad that both characters get more to do in “Attack on Titan: Junior High.” Also, I feel that the way Marco never, ever abandons Jean shows that he’s a truly great friend.
Episode 11: Clear and Sunny!
The delightful school festival marks the start of the only two-part story in this series. The story centers on the chee-burg shop and shows all the fun of the school festival in an omnibus-like format.Through his class’ shop, Eren’s beloved chee-burgs become everyone’s beloved chee-burgs. Another key part of the episode was making sure Armin looked cute, but it was Hitch who wound up being far cuter than expected!
Episode 12: Attack!
This episode is a parody of the main anime’s climactic Trost Recovery Operation. I rewatched the main anime series many times to fill this episode with what made it so great. Doing this parody reminded me just how solid the main series was. Every character who’s appeared so far appears in this episode as well. For the band No Name, I of course asked Revo to lend a hand. I think this final episode was the perfect way to close the show.

Attack On Titan Junior High Anime Quick Thoughts
It’s pretty much the same stuff as the first few chapters of the manga, but it offers a even better example of what I meant by just putting things in a different context. They play the Jean having a crush on Mikasa and Sasha eating a riceball (instead of a potato) jokes completely straight. I’ve seen these before (and I think they’re funnier in the actual series). Give me something new stemming from the character interactions. The running gag of Eren running into everyone at the start and Connie’s butt made me smile, tho. (Never thought I’d say that).
For this kind of series, it’s well-animated and it made me smile a couple of times. It’s a cute distraction while waiting for season 2. I won’t be regularly writing up on this because there probably won’t be much to say, but it’s cute. Nothing terrible, nothing great, just kind of okay.
