Maybe unpopular opinion: I didn't want to have another spin-off of levi despite loving him very much.
This is what I wanted to have:
• hange's, miche/mike's and nanaba's past
• how petra and co were chosen to be levi's squad
• training of the warrior cadets (reiner and co gen) and more of them (especially galliard brothers)
• the 5 year gap where reiner and co were in paradis but what happened in marley (more of gabi, zofia, udo and falco; pieck and porco; colt and zeke (as mentor); or more of the situation of the eldia in marley)
• veteran trio (hange, erwin, miche/mike) or also with moblit and nile in the training corps and their first expedition outside (except nile ofc)
Just little short stories, a few chapters about that

Fellow Hange fans we CAN heal. Just remember our bad mf is in Scout Heaven with the gang and they’re all playing a drinking game called “take a shot for each day Levi survives” they’re all cheering him on and getting absolutely plastered bc he refuses to die. he WILL live in the better world they gave their lives to help create. HE WILL

the original levi squad had to die because if they had met armin, they would have loved him so much more than eren fr and armin was not allowed to have a single ounce of self-esteem for plot reasons

Hi 🤎
I would love to read the long version of all those fake fics if I'm being honest! But: 🦮 for Campfire please dear and lovely Terra 🤎

Spindly branches grew to sharpened points like gnarled fingers, each clutching a thin fabric of leaves which wove into a threadbare canopy overhead. Pale light filtered between them; early evening sky turned grey by the rising smoke from the campfire. Bird calls pierced the quiet rustle of wind. Then, in the distance, a chorus of chirps echoed in response. Amongst the murmurings and stirrings of nature, the flames crackled.
Two squadrons of Survey Corps soldiers sat upon the fallen logs and leaf-strewn forest floor. The assembly had broken out into smaller groups, conversing intently as they suspended corn cobs over the flickering flames. The air was filled with the smell of roasted vegetables. Hange was terrifying Moblit with a report of Sawney’s cavities, following a dental examination they had personally carried out on the titan. Meanwhile, Oluo was outlining squad formations at painstaking length. Levi nodded as his squad member continued on and on and on… At first glance, it appeared as though the Captain was deep in thought. His eyes narrowed as though he was concentrating on visualising Oluo’s detailed descriptions.
...of course, it’s just my opinion that the Standby Squad should ride ahead of the Transport Squad,” Oluo drawled, “they are in the most protected position after all. Besides which, the Transport Squad carries our spare food, medical equipment, ODM gear…”
Levi’s eyelids fell shut as Oluo began to list off each item on his fingers. The Captain nodded again, his head falling to the side. Petra gasped as she felt his chin brush against her shoulder.
“Captain! Not here! I’m not read-”
It took her a moment to realise that he had not been consciously leaning towards her, but rather unconsciously. The young recruit froze, her shoulder bearing Levi’s head. Oluo stared at them before he gave a bitter sigh, dropping his hand upon his lap in disappointment.
“Well, that’s not what you want.”
“Oh my god…” Mutterings broke out around the circle amidst the nudging of elbows. Petra sat upright, her shoulders stiffened, not wanting to budge an inch lest she disturb Levi.
“Come on…” she tried in a placating tone, “we’ve had a long ride here. Let’s just let him sleep. I’ll be fine… as long as someone passes me some corn?” Petra was attempting to sound mildly amused - inconvenienced even - by the fact she was trapped, sitting on her heels and unable to turn her head. However, her face glowed in pleasure as her eyes continually drifted down to Levi’s face, resting so close to her own.
The conversation around the circle continued. Petra lifted her chin, her demeanour inflated as she sat eating and speaking with Eld. All the whilst she affected a casual lightness as though her senior officer was not huddled close to her, open and vulnerable in his slumber. Then, suddenly, Levi interrupted with a murmur.
Petra and Eld lapsed into silence, uncertain as to whether or not the Captain was stirring. He spoke again, only louder this time.
“Ah, Hange… take em off, baby… I don’t care if they’re small… wanna bury my face in them…..”
Petra’s corn on the cob rolled along the forest floor. All eyes were trained on Hange. The titan scientist feigned a perplexed expression as their eyes roved the tree tops.
“Did you guys hear something? Was that a lark? A great tit maybe…?”
“Sounds like Levi would know,” Eld cracked dryly, causing a ripple of laughter to break out amongst the recruits. The sound was followed swiftly by a nervous shushing as Levi raised his head, his eyes opening.
“… the hell are you all looking at?” he muttered. His glare immediately sought out Oluo. In his semi-conscious state, Levi tried to piece together the fragments of their earlier conversation. He remembered it had been something about squads and supplies…
“Well?” Levi growled.
“Sir… I… I was just suggesting an amendment to the riding formation,” Oluo answered anxiously, “not to say you don’t know breast - best!”
The swell of laughter bubbled up around the circle again. Hange fell to wiping their glasses on their yellow shirt, a deep flush creeping up the skin of their neck. Scowling, Levi climbed to his feet.
“If you’ve all got time to sit there snickering, then you’ve got time to help rebuild this fire.”
He scrutinised the dying embers. Most of the Survey Corps members had eaten by now. All that remained of the fire was a large charred stump, still smouldering in the centre. All of the smaller branches had collapsed to ash inside the middle of the pile. Levi looked up and caught Hange’s eye.
“Oi, Hange. Wanna give me a hand?”
Nervous titters broke out amongst the younger recruits. A few shoulders were shaking. Eld was grinning down at his lap. Oluo’s jaw was set. Gunther had crammed his fist into his mouth, tears pricking in the corner of his eyes.
“With what?” Hange asked, astonished.
Levi regarded her severely.
“Getting wood.”
The whole group burst out into a chorus of whoops and raucous laughter, Oluo hiccoughing loudly as he bit his tongue. @youre-ackermine

It would have been interesting if the Levi squad was a bigger group, seniors members with the newbies together. Such as cleaning for example. The dos and don'ts. Such as when they first joined the squad. Oluo and Eren teaching them how to clean.
That would be an interesting fic to read. If that interests you that is
thank you for requesting :)
welcome to squad levi
new squad levi. squad levi. canon divergent. 1799 words.
The newest recruits of the Special Operations Squad are gathered in the castle’s drawing room, most of them collapsed on the rug or couch after a long day of chores. When the young soldiers had been assigned to Captain Levi’s squad, they hadn’t expected this much cleaning even with the fair warning Eren had given them. Nobody was used to such intensive labor, and only Eren and Mikasa seem unaffected by it. The rest of their peers are moaning and groaning about how much their muscles ache.
“I thought it wouldn’t be anything compared to the training we endured under Shadis, but the Captain really works us to the bone,” Sasha complains. She sits on the floor, her back resting against the couch. Connie sits behind her with his hands massaging her shoulders, nodding sympathetically as she complains. “He banned me from the kitchen after seeing me snacking on a few bread crusts in the pantry. Can you believe it? I just needed a little something to sustain me after cleaning so hard.”
“Knowing you, it was more than just a little snack. You were probably going to clear out the entire pantry if the Captain hadn’t stopped you,” Jean scoffs. The tips of his ears turn red when hears Mikasa’s laughter mingling with everyone else’s.
“I guess that’s one way to clean it," Armin muses. He sits in a chair rubbing the muscles in his arm. Every few minutes he switches to the other arm. He had been given the task of dusting the library and had somehow miraculously resisted the urge to pull out every book and flip through their pages.
“At least the senior members are nice,” Historia says. She’s also sitting on the floor leaning against Mikasa. “Gunther helped me with dusting the shelves when he noticed I couldn’t reach the ones on the top.”
“I don’t know about nice. Eld told me if I left any streak marks on the window that the Captain would chop off my limbs and feed them to Titans on our next expedition,” Jean says with a shudder.
“He was just teasing you. Captain Levi would never do that. It’d be too messy to have to haul around your disembodied limbs,” Eren says earnestly, and Jean scowls at him.
“Auruo talks too much,” Mikasa says. “He kept telling me I was doing everything wrong and tried to do everything for me.”
“Petra is nice,” Armin says. He curls up in the armchair, his legs pulled up underneath him and his arms wrapped around his legs. He rests his chin on his knees. He closes his eyes, feeling the warmth of the fireplace on his skin as the flames flicker in the hearth. “She kept giving me pointers. I barely got scolded by the Captain when he came by to inspect our work.”
Connie waves off Armin’s words with a dismissive hand. “No, the Captain just likes small, cute people. If you and Petra were working in the same room, of course he’d go easy on the both of you.”
“He’s not nice to me,” Historia sniffs. “He kept telling me I missed the cobwebs in the corner. At least Gunther was nice enough to take the blame and say it was his fault for not teaching me how to clean properly.”
“Maybe you’re just not cute enough,” Mikasa suggests, and she smirks when Historia whips her head around to give Mikasa a scandalized look for even suggesting such a thing.
“It’s not that bad. The Captain is just really difficult to please,” Eren says. He reaches up to tug at a lock of his hair nervously. He knows it’s not his job to make his friends’ time in the Special Operations Squad enjoyable — it’s not like they can leave if they want to — but he does want to make this as painless for them as possible.
“What’s that guy’s deal anyway? I don’t think I’ve seen him smile once,” Jean says with a scowl. Like Historia, he had also been scolded by the Captain for his poor cleaning skills and was made to redo all his work on cleaning the windows. He had been one of the last to be relieved of his duties for the night and he’s still sour about it.
They aren’t thoughts that Eren hadn’t had himself regarding the Captain, but it makes Eren antsy to hear it from the mouths of his peers. Eren stammers, “It’s not so bad. He just values cleanliness. You guys will get used to it soon enough.”
“I guess his height isn’t the only thing about him that’s short,” Connie snickers. “He’s got a short fuse, too.”
“It’s not like you’re very tall yourself, so who are you to talk about height?” Sasha grins, poking a pouting Connie in the thigh.
“Maybe he’s just old and grumpy,” Mikasa says, which elicits some grins and surprised giggles from her peers who aren’t used to her badmouthing their superiors. Then again, she’s never been fond of the Captain to begin with.
Historia sits up straight, a strange expression on her face. It’s oddly stern, brow furrowed slightly, and her mouth is set in a thin line. In a deep voice that’s clearly meant to be a mockery of the Captain’s, Historia says, “Ackerman, if you don’t get the dust underneath the rug, you’ll be cleaning the stable tomorrow as well.”
“You guys,” Eren begins. His gaze flickers towards the hallway nervously as his friends burst into laughter around him. It’s no use warning them because his words are being drowned out by their laughter.
“Pretty good, but his expression is more pinched,” Connie says, abandoning his task of rubbing Sasha’s shoulders so that he can give his own impression of the Captain. His grin disappears as his expression sobers before being replaced by one that looks just like the Captain’s. Like Historia, he also mimic’s the Captain’s low tone as he says, “You little shits better clean every speck of dust in this castle or else I’ll feed you to the Titans.”
“That’s not -” Eren begins, but Armin interrupts him.
“The Captain’s vocabulary is vulgar, but he doesn’t throw curses around so frivolously,” Armin says.
“You should try it then,” Sasha grins.
“Try it, try it!” Connie chants while the rest of their friends goad Armin on.
“Ah, I really shouldn’t,” Armin begins.
“Yeah, you really shouldn’t,” Eren  chimes, but his timid warning is drowned out by his friends’ cheers when Armin assumes his own imitation of the Captain’s typical stern expression.
Armin tilts his head ever so slightly so that he’s looking down at his friends from the bridge of his nose. “Pipe down, brats, or I’ll have you scraping shit from the stables all day tomorrow.”
Everyone bursts into laughter after Armin’s impression — even Eren can’t help cracking a smile — until a voice suddenly says, “That’s not how Captain Levi sounds like at all.”
The startled friends turn their heads towards the doorframe where the senior members of Squad Levi are standing  with amused expressions on their faces.
Auruo strolls forward, arms outstretched in a shrug. “Mocking our captain, I see. A pathetic attempt to capture any of his aura. It’s laughably bad. It’s a good thing the Captain wasn’t here to see how awful it was.”
“Yeah, it’s not enough to copy his expression. You need to copy his entire demeanor,” Eld says with a lopsided grin. He  gestures for Petra to enter the room. “Come on, Petra. Show these kids how it’s done.”
“I don’t know,” Petra begins, her voice trailing off uncertainly even as the corners of her mouth curve upward in a helpless smile. She coughs when she notices all the eyes on her and then says, “Alright, just once then.”
Petra gestures for Eld and Gunther to stand in front of her. She whispers a few things to them and seems to get something from Gunther. The younger members of the Special Operations Squad crane their necks to see what’s happening, but it’s impossible to see what Petra’s up to when Eld and Gunther are in the way. Eventually, Petra clears her throat and Eld and Gunther part for her to walk through. There’s a handkerchief tucked into the front of her collar that’s made to look like the Captain’s cravat.
The new squad members watch, eyes widening, as Petra walks across the floor, her boots clomping against the hardwood. Her gait is exactly the same as the Captain’s — the same powerful, confident stride — and she stops only once she approaches the empty armchair across from Armin. When she sits down, her right ankle rests on her left knee and her body is twisted slightly so that her arm rests across the back of the armchair. The disinterested gaze in her amber eyes and the slight frown on her lips is unmistakably the same as the Captain’s. Her brows lower disapprovingly as she gazes down at the amazed teenagers.
“What are you brats staring at?” Petra says and even her tone sounds like the Captain. She doesn’t even crack a smile when she speaks. “Do you have to take a shit or something?”
“That’s exactly like him!” Sasha says in amazement.
“It’s like he’s sitting in front of us right now,” Connie gasps as Petra’s companions laugh behind them.
“Well, he’s standing behind you right now,” another voice says, one that belongs to their real captain.
“C-captain!” Gunther stammers. “We were just ...”
“- showing the new recruits -” Eld continues before looking at Auruo to finish making up an excuse.
“- how to do a good impression of you!” Auruo blurts and everyone glares at him. He throws up his hands. “You guys try to think of something on the spot!”
The Captain seems unimpressed. “Why are you all still sitting there gawking? It’s late. Everyone is getting up early tomorrow for an extra round of training.”
There’s a little grumbling and mumbling, but everyone gets up and shuffles out of the room. Before Petra leaves, the Captain says, “And, Ral?”
“Y-yes, Captain?” Petra stammers, freezing just before she’s able to escape through the door. She swears underneath her breath, cursing her luck, and the Captain smirks.
“I’d never wear my cravat that sloppily,” Levi says, reaching out to fix it.  He reaches out slowly, his fingertips brushing against Petra’s neck as he tucks the cravat in properly. His smirk grows when he sees the hitch in her breath, and he takes his time fluffing out the handkerchief so that it looks like a presentable make-shift cravat. He smooths out a corner, his eyes flickering up at Petra’s face as his hand finally leaves her handkerchief. “Dismissed.”
“Yes, sir,” Petra breathes before scampering away, cheeks still flushed from the thought of her captain’s fingertips grazing her skin.

I'm rewatching Attack on Titan with my cousin, who has never seen it, and boy, is it a tripping experience.
I first watched Attack on Titan when it first came out, back in 2013, and now in season 1, there are moments that just physically kick me back in time, back when we knew nothing.
My cousin said, "Are Levi and Mikasa related? They have the same last name," and I was struggling to remember why it wasn't obvious to us back then that there was a connection–
And then it hit me that we didn't know Levi's last name for a while. He does, but we didn't.
I remember the tumblr posts the most; I remember the horse face jokes, and the memes like "dead mom hairstyle" and eren joining the "did nothing wrong squad." I remember the fics with the Levi squad and the huge shipping between Levi and Eren– how Levi always called them gaki/brats and the "characters watch the show" fics. I remember the discourse between people who shipped eremika and those saying "they're siblings," and I remember the live action movie.
During an episode, I saw Levi's name spelled as "Rivaille" and could almost smell the summer air in my childhood bedroom where I watched AoT.
It's so bizarre watching the first season now that everything is over, because at the time, genuinely nobody could have seen it going the way it did. We never thought we'd end up here. All we wanted to know was what was in that goddamn basement.
Even as I have read and watched everything, when I'm back in season one, I just keep quietly wondering to myself...
How did we end up here?

Bauklötze is such an amazing song. It can be interpreted as if it’s about Eren, everything he lost when the wall fell and what he became because of it.
But recently, when looking at both contexts in which it was used, I think it can also be interpreted as a giant metaphor for the true Survey Corps but especially Levi and his heart. The first time it was used was when the original Squad Levi, especially Petra from what I can remember, was begging Eren to trust in them. Eren does and it all goes tragically wrong and Levi’s looses some of his most beloved companions.
The next time we hear it, it’s Hange’s outro song. She wants Levi and co. to trust her decision to buy them enough time and this time, it goes tragically right. She succeeds but she dies in the process - and she’s the last of Levi’s most beloved companions from a time the rest of them can’t remember.
“I like playing with blocks, I build carefully with bricks. Take a look at my empty box of bricks.” A wall has been built, slowly, purposefully, around someone’s heart. “You innocently break my wall down with dirty hands.” Despite how distant Levi tries to be because of previous loss, he can’t help letting people in and he cares deeply despite the inevitable pain. The dirty hands bit - the lyric also really fits with Bert being an innocent kid with blood on his hands, but there’s also Levi with his comrades, soldiers covered in dirt and blood and grim and Hange is known to neglect her personal hygiene without Levi’s intervention.
“And that day was a fiery sunset.” In contrast to the breaking of the wall, the day Levi lost Hange in the Anime was a fiery sunrise. “I hide the blocks from you. A sad memory of my childhood.” The loss of his mother, his first loss from what we know, what caused his first wall. He’s hiding the blocks from the broken wall, hiding how much it hurts to lose someone, Isabel, Farlan, his first squad, Erwin, now Hange.
“Is that the destroyer or the creator?” Eren with all manner of things he could do with access to the founder, he’s using it to destroy the world and create a new one for loved ones who don’t want him to commit such a massive atrocity in their names. “With the fervour of hate, we weild our swords. Is that our fate or our will? We’ll fight until the hot wind takes our wings away.” Don’t even get me started on that final line. That’s Hange, through and through. She’s the only one who wears the classic Survey Corps cape in that episode, wings of freedom on the back. It’s the first thing to catch fire from the heat of the wall colossal titans. It’s so damn literal. I can’t help but wonder if Isayama based her outro around this line or if Isayama had any say in what kind of lyrics he wanted in certain songs.
“I don't put anything into the box of bricks. I don't want to lose anything. I hide the toy blocks from you. I carefully build walls of bricks again” he doesn’t want to lose Hange but he’s hiding how much her decision is hurting him so as not to disrupt her bravery or interfere with her choice. He’s so used to rebuilding the walls that keep being broken around his heart. To love is painful and it’s as Hange says when she hugs Mikasa on that rooftop in Shinganshina:

A Sunrise Without You Is Coming
Ch3: No World Without Walls (on AO3) “I don’t think you’re going to kill me, Levi…” Hange observed, chin resting against clasped hands, “I can tell you’re undecided about what to do. However, now that you know my name, it’s going to be harder for you to get rid of me.”
“Is that so?”
“Giving the bug a name is decisive because then it’s no longer an ‘it.’ Rather, it becomes something familiar. Through understanding it a little better, you learn to fear it less.”
Tumblr media
Series recap: Marleyan scientist Hange Zoe receives a hostile welcome from Levi and his regiment when they inadvertently wash ashore on the coastal border near Wall Maria. Levi is suspicious of the Military Police’s involvement with a group of defectors caught fleeing the island.
