Snatcher Week Day 7 The Prince
Tumblr media
A fire crackling in the old fire place. A clock ticking away on the wall. The night dark and bleak as a story unfolded. Being told through one's mind whom was wrong oh so long ago now.
"Her and I...We have a score to settle. You've think I've forgotten what she's done to me?"
A memory's sound turned up clear as day. Still ringing in the echoes of his former mind as he recalled it well. Still remembering the footsteps of his own mortal legs walking through the cold and mostly deserted halls until he found HER. The one who destroyed any and all happiness and even life itself.
"All on that cursed day! Look it's complicated but she didn't have to treat me that way. I was her prince and she was-....She was my princess. Everything was going so well...Or so I thought."
Flowers were thrown in the garbage by cold hands. Ignoring the struggling and screaming of a man who had been betrayed, heartbroken. Never seeing the true monster underneath until everything enveloped in blackened ice.
"Never left the house. Lonely and cold like the winters of Subcon. Paranoid and anxious, turned her back on others. I never understood."
The man never did. Until it all came together for him over years and years of the echoed memories replaying. She never cared for the emotions of the man. Only the fake role she desired him to become.
"It wasn't long before she turned against her people. On that day when I returned to Subcon, she broke down. What was supposed to be a joyous day had turned into a nightmare! Villigers ran and hid as her anger spread throughout the forest. She had gone completely and utterly crazy!"
Guilt. Ice grazing over everyone causing a massacre upon both empires. He never stopped her. Living among the many dead that was the collateral of his blindness to the real situation. He will never forgive himself for that.
"They say you shouldn't poke the sleeping bear, but honestly Kiddo-...These noodly arms of mine feel like poking. We're gonna poke her! Wake her up! Steal her riches! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Four new faces, reliable faces, smiled menacingly. Eager to help. Eager to get him revenge. Avenge him. He would always take back what she took from him.
"And I know just the thing to do to set her off. So are you ready? Let's go pay Vanessa a little visit."

A Hat In Time OC drawings part 4 the Angst the idea stems from snatcher doing anything he can to fuck with lurker bc of their issues with one another. Sai being made of paint means she's very sensitive to the cold, and gets hurt because of snatcher egging her on to mess around despite Lurkers protests this severely injures her and Snatcher hadn't intended for her to get hurt. Lurker refuses to let him see her. side note of this is snatcher is pathetically and madly in love with her, so its a lot help oUGH
Lurker belongs to @chocowhomps

Leave it to me to wait until basically the last minute to do something for Mermay...
But yeah, finally caved and drew what Hat Kid and Snatcher would be like as merpeople, based off that one post I made some time back: https://www.tumblr.com/ravensroleplays/750731002726514688/ravensroleplays-i-have-way-too-many-drawing?source=share
Featuring @hexsisters' OC Stella as a mer-jellyfish, because they're beautiful and elegant, but can be deadly :P
If you 'like' my art, I kindly request that you reblog it as well.

Snatcher Week Day 5 Your Contract Has Expired
Tumblr media
Subcon Forest was not a place for just anyone to enter and exit as they please. There was a reason these woods had such a feared reputation and was rumored to be haunted. Because it was. By the King Snatcher of Subcon(as he liked to refer to himself) and his ghastly assortment of minions and dwellers behind him as his undead army, anyone who went in NEVER came out which added to the entire frightfulness of it all!! The dark sky and dead trees twisted with dangerous vines as the sun dared not shine here. If that won't convince you to stay away then maybe the giant chunk of the forest that always so dangerously cold will? Or perhaps the section that's always burning bright with enchanted flames? Or maybe the ghostly king who claimed trespassers' souls as his own or the rumor of a powerful witch? Either way, whatever helps to keep trespassers out he was all for it. But there was two people in his forest he was anticipating. Two small children who were foolish enough to wonder into his forest and he took full advantage of the situation having a few of his pesky chores cleared out and still have some souls to add to his collection. Now all that had to be done now that the work was all done, was to collect his debt. And he knew JUST the way to do so. And all it would take would be one little itty bitty tiny sparkly hourglass-
This was bad.
She knew it was bad the moment she didn't see the ghost for a while. She had finished his last contract but now he was no where to be found, not even in his spooky treehouse. Then she had sensed it. The magic of one of her time pieces. Of course she had immediately followed it making Bow stay back at the ship as she ventured deep into the Subcon Forest to somewhere she's never been before until she came across it. Some kind of strange brick base, no doubt once some kind of giant structure but it looked so strange. Candles lit up the circle being her only source of light as she approached, random old furniture and other things also littered the base of the circle long forgotten by anyone who once lived there. From the tree branches above dangled cages that creaked and groaned under the slight wind promising a dangerous fate. But the strangest thing to her was the green algea infested pool of water that was just stuck in the middle of the circle. Very strange. But what got her attention the most was the shiny light. The light of a small tiny time piece that glowed in the dark sitting just on the other side of the circle. Just sitting there waiting for her to pick it up. It must've landed here when it fell from the sky. But something about this was-...Strange. Off even. She looked around and saw nothing and no one around here so what was this weird feeling. After a bit she decided to risk it, running a brisk pace right at the time piece and dove. Hands reaching out ready to grab onto it, before just at the last second it disappeared in a puff of purple smoke. With a thud she fumbled to the ground in a heap. What the pe-
"Wait up, Kid," a disembodied voice called out from no where raspy, deep, and full of malice," Remember how the old contractor had his head pop off?"
THAT VOICE!! She stumbled to sit up, hands flying to her giant top hat to push it off her head as she did so and blinked her big blue eyes open. And then gasped in fright as the water began to bubble and boil as if lit by a giant fire underneath the blackened dirt. It boiled faster and faster as bubbles popped and the water splashed about. Until something emerged. Two large hands slowly emerged from the pool to grab the edges and something pulled itself slowly out of the water. A large fanged grin and two yellow eyes smiled at her from it's dark black-purple body as it rose higher and higher until standing over her sixteen feet long was a ghost. And not just any ghost. SNATCHER!! He felt delight seeing the shock and fear plain as day on her face as water slowly dripped off his body- ...Hang on a minute. Where was the other one?? He was sure there was two of them! Oh well. There was plenty of time to nab the other one once he was done with this hat brat. No need to rush things.
"That wasn't a coincidence," he continued sinisterly smiling at her, "It popped off the moment he stopped being useful to me. And guess who else just became obsolete?" He had to commend her mind for figuring out quick what he meant when her eyes widened more. "That's right." A clawed hand pointed right at her. "You. Now that that possessed outhouse isn't bothering me anymore, and all those contracts of yours are tidied away, I don't need you around. Besides you didn't think I was gonna let you keep all these time pieces, did you? They fell in my forest, kid. They belong to ME."
And then he struck out at her. Claws outstretched to snatch her up, but she yelped and ducked just at the last moment feeling the breeze from his arm skim over her head, her hat snatched from her head. ...Hmm. Not what he wanted but he still add insult to injury by tainting her with this little thievery. So as she blinked up at him, he placed it on his own head before lifting his arms out channeling something from under the earth- She squealed in fright as the earth beneath them shook and rattled as if an earthquake was taking placed all around until with a clap of thunder they arrived. With the moaning of the wicked and lost, they came called by their master to his aid. Hundreds of moaning souls encasing and crawling over the sides of the weird brick base to the Snatcher, swirling around them and swallowing him whole in the rattling and moaning mess as she could only watch in horror. The light from the candles around them being snuffed out to bring black abyss except for two glowing yellow eyes and a fanged grin. Until black finally swallowed them both and at once the moans and rumbling stopped.
"Time you saw what I'm really capable of, Kid. Say good bye to that little head of yours!"

got the badges for gone fission evp 400 + evp 600 yesterday! .52 gal, l-3 nozzlenose, dread wringer, and squiffer make for quite the synergistic team!
my peak was EVP 810 (appx 300-310% HL). my high score of 151 eggs was obtained somewhere in evp 300...? i'm pretty satisfied with how it went, even if i didn't get HLM or 9s.
some thoughts/reflections on good freelancing teams/traits to develop when trying to rank up in evp under the cut:
i think grinding this rotation was pretty fun- all of the weapons have excellent mobility and i think they cover for each other really well! the l-3 was not my favorite weapon going into it but i think i really enjoyed the accuracy and mobility of it, so it's a bit more favorable for me now :)
i ended up reaching a skill wall in EVP 760-780 where i could not get past wave 2 or 3 (usually for quota related reasons, the quota is BRUTAL! we'd miss it by like 4-5 ish... ofc this partially relates to how well bosses are handled).
the grind for evp was a mix of freelance and grouping up (freelance for 230 -> 440s, grouping up for 440 - 750~, and then testing myself in freelance for that last bit).
i enjoyed the bits of freelance i did, and from my playtime i think these were some of the key traits/practices that indicate "good salmon run skills" to me:
players that know their weapons role(s) and target the appropriate salmonid (but also being willing to break that when priority targets haven't been taken care of)
knowing when a teammate needs help (with a boss or being revived) or when the teammate has a situation under control (e.g. someone's already on the fishstick, you can do something else)
proactive use of specials when problem targets appear, preferably with no overlap (e.g. tri-strike and inkjet activated on the same flyfishes is not the best)
using specials like booyah bomb, triple splashdown, and reefslider to clear basket area in the last 30 seconds to help eggs get in (especially important past evp 600)
teams that paint the walls first thing (especially whoever had the dread wringer). all interior walls for fission can be painted within the first 10 seconds imo
forwarding eggs closer to the basket after splatting static bosses (throwing one egg, and then swimming up with one)
players with good judgment; knowing when to lure (mostly for initial boss spawns), and knowing when to leave the big shot cannon
being able to figure out which directions snatchers come from and what eggs they can help you collect
i think these practices all stem from having good awareness and being able to collect information about the shift. it helps with making snappy quick-fire decisions, and it just gets more important the higher up in EVP you go. camera positioning/control is essential for this (you can't figure out where bosses/teammates are if your back is turned to them).
for me, every 7-10 seconds, i like to rotate my camera around to the opposite side of where i'm currently looking to make sure there isn't any bosses i'm missing. i'm hardly in one place longer than 5-10 seconds and i try to always be on the move. the spawn direction where salmonids come from are always changing, so it's essential to rotate around the map proactively rather than reactively. i think this also helps a lot with shotcalling in groups too (since you can be someone else's pair of eyes).
other than boss spawns/teammate locations (for revives), i think it's also important to notice when certain bosses haven't been taken care of for prolonged periods of time too, so that a special can be popped. to me it's usually a sign that someone whose ill equipped to deal with that boss has been forced to deal with them because the people with the "right" weapon are focused on something else... (no fault to them, of course, everyone has different priorities and you can't always communicate clearly in freelance)
in situations where squiffers were chased by a pack of scrappers, perhaps a booyah bomb or splashdown can be popped to help if you don't have the time to stun and splat them manually. maybe the fish sticks were left unattended by the shooters, so a triple inkstrike or a crab/inkjet shot can help clear them out.
awareness also extends to meeting quota, which imo involves paying attention to the timer + where eggs are located. i find that it's nice to check in with the timer/quota at 50s and 30s respectively so that you can start forwarding eggs closer to basket. and when everyone's going crazy about quota not being met i try to make sure i'm not overstepping anyone else's egg pile so that no one goes "wait no thats the egg that i wanted to pick up fuck i have to go back and get a different one."
i think this is why sometimes playing in groups is easier. if you have more sets of eyes that you can communicate with, it alleviates the need to have awareness of "everything" (provided that you can comms effectively). someone can be attuned to different things (e.g. my friend always tells us where snatchers come from and if they're good, i'm personally attuned to where people need to be revived, etc.). you also know what specials you have access to, unlike in freelance where you're not sure what others have until they use them.
the other part of completing shifts successfully (to me) is being mechanically sound with your movement, mostly in regards to how you use the terrain (walls) to get around the map and escape situations. the more you play a map the more you'll figure out how you can move around on it.
some examples, using the location callouts from salmonrun.ink: there were a few times i'd go on the harbor but i could escape any salmonids in the bridge area by climbing the walls there and squidrolling out as needed. sometimes on high tide i would swim from the perch to the left plat.
sub-strafing is also good to know too, especially when you want to rapidly collect the basket eggs at the end. i still need to integrate it into other parts of my gameplay, but it's helpful!
uh. this was way longer than intended because i have WAY too many thoughts about salmon run. TL;DR: The key to succeeding your shifts is having good awareness which comes from good information collecting practices, and having the mechanical skill to act on that awareness without hesitation.
there's definitely a lot that goes on in sensory overload the game™, so it will take time to build these muscles and reaction times. i think while at every rank of salmon run you may face a wall of "i'm overwhelmed by the bosses," the exact fix needed to get past it usually varies, so it's important to figure out what information you were missing or what actions you could've taken (more efficient movement or special usage, usually).
or if you're struggling with quota, try to practice forwarding eggs or take a look where snatchers come from (even if people splat them, it's still a good practice 2 develop for later evp. source: i don't fucking do it and it's biting me in the ass)
and most importantly, recognize when you're in the midst of a loss streak/skill wall, so that you can take a break and focus on other things that energize you! even if there's a certain goal you want to meet, grinding for higher levels of EVP and getting better at the game can be a very exhausting process. you can always come back to the grind later, whether if it's after a 30 minute break, or just a different rotation!
#splatoon 3#lizz.jpg#lizz.txt#i did like 93 jobs of this rotation if anyone is curious. average waves cleared 2.2. point card was 31315p#im so normal about salmon run this is my favorite mode in the game that even though i have 2x the hours of my friend she's higher leveled-#in the pvp multiplayer than i am (but also she uses exp tickets and i dont because im a money enjoyer)#honestly i do wonder what i could've done differently with evp 740ish bc i could NOT stick around with a group WHICH IS SO FAIR#though it is a little disorienting to go between 300 to 320 HL with every new group of people HAHA#i do think it's the snatchers i gotta pay more attention to but damn idk when they spawn lol#and maybe my specials could get more value for them. i never go a shift without using them but idk#i think there's also been a lot of dying in general. like 3-5 deaths for everyone so it's def a movement/not keeping up with boss issue#in some form...? so maybe if i get to the point where my specials are back to proactive use and not 'for surviving this first wave'#i'll be golden and good to go for 9s... still very valuable learning experience though!#it would have definitely been easier to get to 9s if i reached certain evp ranks earlier to play with more experienced people but#where is the learning in that? LOL. i just feel like you're really forced 2 confront what you suck at when all the 'good people' are-#already at 9s or some higher VP y'know. and then when you get booted down to a lower VP for the next roto. it feels so much easier#and its like wait! maybe i'm okay at this game actually#anyway i don't think i'll be playing salmon for extended period of time for the next week otherwise im gonna be tetris effect'd LOL

I love the ambiguity of the final sequence - are "Gray's" movements the uncoordinated flailing of a dead body being jostled, or a deliberate attempt to hinder MacFarlane and take the reins of the speeding coach? (And then of course, Gray was only in MacFarlane's head at the last - who knows?)
It's really an excellent film, marred only by a timeline that doesn't seem to comport with reality and the presence of Fettes, who remains completely boring to the last. (Thank god he didn't have a romance plot!) Both Karloff and Daniell are fantastic, creating complex and fascinating characters. Edith Atwater is so interesting in her few scenes as Meg and plays wonderfully off both men. Lugosi, sadly, doesn't get a lot to do, but he did give us that one gorgeous sequence, so I'm glad he was here.
(Tangentially, as a person who enjoys a good murder ballad, I'd love to learn the song about Burke and Hare Gray sings during that sequence.)

there's a lot of (extremely good and hilarious) prompts where Danny has to leave his home dimension and finds his way into the dcu. What I'd like to see is the reverse though. Like, the goth furries who don't care for magic and have a lot of aliens friends being tossed into 'only ghosts are real and everything works on comedy rules' universe.
Batman: So these 'ghosts', they come through a portal and attack people and you, a 14 are the only person stopping them? Danny: I mean, it's kind of my fault? I did turn the thing on when I died death. Batman: -concerned grunting- Danny: I'm fine! Really! Being half dead isn't as weird as you'd think. It'd be easier if I could finish high school without being attacked but it's a living. Batman: Why not contact your world's justice league? Danny: What's a justice league? Batman: -distressed grunting-
-
Nightwing: So how do you handle normal criminals? Danny: What d'ya mean? Nightwing: You know, people who commit crimes? Danny: You mean like a purse snatcher or something? Nightwing: Not exact- You know what? Sure. How do you handle purse snatchers? Danny: -shrugs while making a I dunno noise- I guess the police handle that kind of stuff? I'm usually fighting the personification of sleep or my arch nemesis Plasmius. Which would be less annoying if he stopped trying to adopt me. But yeah, no. I don't usually see a lot of 'crime-crime' stuff outside of the 6 o'clock news every other week or so. There's just not that much of it I guess. Nightwing: Okay. So. Follow up questions-

Game of the Week
Fresh ideas or solid execution? How do you choose?
Tumblr media
Sorry, 1993: Space Machine. You are an excellent space shooter, but I've played a lot of good space shooters. I have not played a shooter that is also a Roguelike tennis game. Sure, the difficulty and controls could use some fine tuning, but the fact that such an unlikely combination of genres could work at all is cause for excitement, and 10s goes beyond mere functionality and competence. This is a thoughtful, inventive oddity that I expect to stick with me for some time. But you? You should play them both. They're great!
Tumblr media
My most anticipated game of the week—of this entire project to date—was 2064: Read Only Memories, and while I gave it a decent score and was invested enough to complete it in a ridiculous seven-hour marathon session, I never got an answer to my biggest question: Why is this a game?
Eugene Ionesco said, "Theatre is not literature... It is simply what cannot be expressed by any other means." I think bout that every time I make anything. Can this be expressed by any other means? Could I tell this story as a book? A movie? A radio play? A bi-monthly curated box of snacks? The script of 2064 would not work as a book. Characters standing in one place and delivering uninterrupted, pages-long monologues wouldn't fly. Same with a movie. I can't even picture actors standing still, delivering all these lines at this pace. They wouldn't stand for it. Literally, it would go against every actor's training to simply stand and deliver. They would find some business to occupy their hands. They would react to one another. Cinematographers would walk off the set. Is that why 2064 is a game? Because we, as game players, have been conditioned to understand the discrete text box? Give us a character portrait and just a few sentences at a time, and we're good? I like text boxes. I want games to reach outside of our expectations. I don't hold any conventions sacred. I want that which simply can't be expressed by any other means. It's not that 2064's plot, characters, and tone couldn't be a movie or a book; it's that they would need to be adapted to suit their medium. This morning, I skimmed videos of a few of the games I think might have inspired 2064. Perhaps the most obvious comparison is Snatcher, a cyber-punk visual novel with light adventure elements and occasional shooting galleries.
youtube
Hideo Kojima's Snatcher is a blatant Blade Runner knock off, with a few scoops of Terminator and an anime veneer. (If you think that particular mélange sounds unique, I'll direct your attention to Bubblegum Crisis, which premiered a year before the first release of Snatcher and could be described exactly the same way, only with killer '80s tunes.) It's an unoriginal story, and in broad terms, the only thing that sets it apart is that it's a video game—a video game that, I would argue, is at odds with its medium in the same ways as 2064. Like most of Kojima's work, it desperately envies Hollywood. It's not at all my cup of tea, but I can't help but admire the audacity of trying to recreate movies on hardware as primitive as the PC-8801 or Sega CD. It's an impossible, misguided task, but look at the way Snatcher really goes for it. The motion might be stilted, but the drawings are dynamic and vibrant, and the cuts are frequent.
Tumblr media
I lived through the '90s. I lived through the early days of polygons, and the sudden dismissal of anything that was still drawn in two dimensions. I am delighted that we came out on the other side, ready to embrace both the old an the new. I'm glad chunky pixels and restricted palettes can now be an artistic choice, but it's worth keeping in mind that old games didn't look that way to cut costs and up the kitsch value. The old games weren't looking backwards. Most of today's game developers grew up playing video games. They liked games, they took on the "gamer" identity (barf), and now they are game developers who make games, and that's their whole thing. And I just want to tell them... You don't have to make games, you know? Shigeru Miyamoto grew up reading comics, watching Popeye, and exploring fields and caves. He's the greatest game developer who ever lived. Lately, he's spent a lot of time working on a movie and a theme park. Obviously not everyone is privileged enough to do all of that, but skills it takes to make a game are applicable to a lot more than games. You don't have to be a game person, making games about games for people who like games. You can. It's valid and good. But it doesn't need to be all you are. Make games because you want to make games; because what you're making couldn't be anything else. Don't default to a medium. Choose it. Embrace it. Find the limits, and then keep pushing.

How the brothers react to you scolding them pt2
Part 1 is linked at the bottom
Satan-
We all know he likes to pull pranks on Lucifer, well this particular time it back fired. Satan put a curse on a stack of student council work intending for Lucifer to pick it up and turn into a cat, unfortunately you were sent to retrieve the papers from the council room and upon picking the papers up you were suddenly a small fur ball. Satan came running into the room with a camera hoping to get a picture to humiliate Lucifer with but instead saw a feline version of MC. Upon realizing the error he made he was much happier and tried to pet you which left him needing several band-aids and a sour expression on his face as Solomon reverted you back to normal.
Asmo-
Asmo is a notorious flirt in the Devildom, he commonly would flirt with others and ghost the leaving them nothing but a broken heart. The latest person he pulled this stunt on came crying to you begging you to ask Asmo why he left, when you got back to the HOL you asked Asmo about what he did and he proceeded to talk about how it was all a game which made you mad. You yelled at him telling him that people's feelings shouldn't be toyed with and how what he was doing was wrong, he stopped playing his "games" after but was a little bitter about the lack entertainment he was having.
Beel-
You came home one day after a long conference with Lucifer excited to eat your left overs after a day of not having time to eat, you open the fridge and their gone not even a smudge of its existence where you left it, no problem you'll just find something else. Imagine your horror when your grumbling stomach is beginning for food and everything had been cleaned out. There was only one person in all 3 world that could do that and you were ready to fight them, you open the door to see been in his bed eating a bag of chips, you quickly grabbed the bag away from him and started to question him about the missing food and he proceeded to tell you how sorry he was and that he thought he was gonna starve to death. Beel is supper sorry and takes you to Hells Kitchen to make up for it.(he steals that food too, but only a few fries)
Belphigor-
He's a blanket snatcher with no shame, you two will be in bed all warm one second and the second Belphie comes you'll be freezing in the middle of the night, when you try to reclaim your blanket he shoves you out of the bed, eventually you give up a d move to the attic but he follows you, he tries to lay down but you kick him out telling him that he can't sleep with you until he fixes his blanket snatching issues. He was displeased with this and as petty revenge he stole all your blankets for a couple weeks.(enjoy sleeping in the cold)
(OH wow, I didn't expect as many likes in part 1 as I did I'm so glad you guys like it, I'll post side characters tomorrow. Please let me know if you want to see other work I'd be happy to obliged. )
