Would you be willing to design Snake from DOTC? His only memorable moment is after the One Eye debacle when Clear Sky was apologizing for leaving his camp Snake was pissed and tried to kick his ass. Clear Sky was like “Either accept the apology or leave!” And Snake left. Honestly one of the best cats just for that.

Snake Gets Done Dirtier
In The Blazing Star, Book 4 of DOTC, Snake turned against Clear Sky because he allowed One Eye into the camp against all warnings.
Clear Sky came to take his power and authority back after he massively fucked up, and Snake didn't want this. He didn't accept a bullshit apology, and attacked him.
Here is the passage again;
Tumblr media
He turned against him because CLEAR SKY allowed a cat into the Clan that CARVED A TATTOO INTO SNAKE'S FLESH.
NOTHING, NOTHING about this interaction implies that Snake was upset that One Eye got killed. He was NOT loyal to One Eye. He did not WANT the mark. He's angry that Clear Sky "LET THIS HAPPEN" because he got a permanent brand cut into his paw.
Snake is the ONLY character who didn't accept Clear Sky's return. When he hears "We're all family here :) I risked my life to get my dictatorship back which is totally atonement :)" Snake calls it for the bullshit that it is, gets dog-piled by his sycophants, and leaves after refusing Clear Sky's "MY way or the HIGHWAY" ultimatum.
This is incredibly meaningful for the character of Snake, actually, because he was an extremely loyal minion for Clear Sky.
Described as "ugly" and "stinky" for the first books of his appearance sell him as one of the most eager, violent cats in Proto-SkyClan (interesting that the erins immediately attack appearance and hygiene to show a character is 'savage'), Snake eventually carries out Clear Sky's orders to murder cats indiscriminately at The First Battle. Everything he does for his leader is done without question. So, standing up against Clear Sky here is a REAL rejection of what Snake used to be.
Snake's RIGHT. Clear Sky DID let this happen! He's WHY this entire Clan suffered under a bigger, badder tyrant. Clear Sky ignored all the warnings he was given, and even got SO offended to hear them that he threw a fit and called his disabled brother (no, the OTHER disabled brother) a broken cat!
But the writers can't let anyone have a point that Clear Sky is a horrible leader who shouldn't be trusted with a goldfish, let alone an entire Clan. So it's time to throw that out the window and say that, ackshually, Snake was loyal to One Eye the whole time and that's why he didn't immediately bow down to Clear Sky.
In Book 6, Snake is a different character.
Tumblr media
He's just evil now, serving the most evilestist character they can imagine.
Snake stood up against Clear Sky because of his BAD JUDGEMENT. He did not like One Eye. Snake was done with tyranny, and that IS a redemption moment. The start of a REAL redemption arc. Not whatever bullshit the Erins think a "redemption" arc is, where consequences are so mean because guilt is enough :(
Nope! Retcon two books later. Either intentional malice because they can't have a reasonable character STAY MAD at Clear Sky, or such utter incompetence that they can't keep the motivations of their characters consistent within their own arc.

I think my most controversial Warrior Cats opinion is that I actually really like the Cinderpelt-heart reincarnation plot. Or at least I would really love a version of it without all teh ableist implications. StarClan realizing that teh “no kits for medicine cats rule is hurtful, and also that disabled cats are often pushed into roles they don’t want and aren’t suited for, and they reincarnate Cinderpelt for those reasons, not because a disabled life isn’t a full one. Cinderheart feeling pressure from teh clan, maybe even her family or even Lionblaze, to be a medicine cat when she finds out. It has potential idk.
I liked it at first, because... Admittedly, I read Po3 before I read TNP and before I finished TPB.
So Cinderpelt was this mysterious, not quite known character to me. I went and read TNP and thought "hmm. I wish it had been more 'this is happening because your life is going to be cut short now due to the move to the lake and that isn't fair because you were supposed to live a long time so go become your niece, really sorry about the badgers, xoxo PS sorry about your mom slowly starving to death in the forest'"
Instead it hinges on her having had "not a full life", which.... When I went EVEN FURTHER back and finished TPB.... She did. She loved Medicine. It was HER choice. The Erin's forgot, made a weird retcon that has become her entire character: "I loved my teacher and didn't tell him", and had Lionblaze be the... Reward for that?
I liked it, it was just done for a stupid reason. Another one of those "we wrote this plot point to make sure a character does xyz" instead of just... Writing it. Snowkit's death is the most egregious example of these writers pretending they have no control over these fictional cats.
I have some controversial opinions of my own.
The Lake territory is cool but also sucks. We need to either leave the Lake or start redoing things about it. It has no landmarks to hang out at or have what I call 'set pieces' whatsoever, and more importantly no threats (thunderpaths, snake rocks, gorge, the tree with a huge Owl, Carrionplace) and I'm pretty sure the writers feel this way too since we leave the Lake once an arc. I wouldn't mind moving territories again, to a more dangerous but still natural place.
Breezepelt should be a permanent Queen. I know it would mean seeing less of him (which I dislike) but him being a gentle parent and helping others raise their kits would be a PERFECT wrap up to his arc. As much as I desperately want Breezestar I think he would fit more as a perma-queen.
A trip to the distant future or past would be both good and bad. A whole new cast would be kinda cool but let's be honest, these writers suck. What is needed is a whole new writing team of people who actually LIKE the books.
I never really liked canon!Riverstar that much, we really didn't know anything about him because DOTC is less Dawn of The Clans and more "pwease like our power trip fantasy oc who knocks up a girl his son's age 🥺". I genuinely cannot remember anything River Ripple even does. He just... Isn't there. Maybe more prevalent in the last 2 books but I never got past the first 3 chapters of book 5 and never opened book 6 aside from looking at its last scene and rolling my eyes. Petal's death was where I drew the line, the narrative bending over backwards to make Clear Sky a poor sad baby crossed it.
• I've come around thanks to Bonefall but I genuinely hated Star Flower as a kid. The way she was described was uncomfortable, annoying and made it feel like the writers were trying to force you to think she's this gorgeous, perfect cat, it made her boring, bland, and anything with her in it a slog to get through because of the way Thunder spoke about her, going on and on about her beautiful she was, getting worse when Moth Flight's Vision described her with purple eyes to go with her star-shaped pupils... Also, I was really attached to Petal, who died suddenly when Star Flower entered the picture, and I was on the assumption Clear Sky and Petal were going to get together, while I didn't like Clear Sky, I just wanted my favorite to stay alive unlike every other female character. Starf also suddenly becoming a helples damsel in distress added to the annoyance so badly that I actually never finished DOTC, and it made me take a break from the series altogether. I really wanted her to be playing the long game. A sincere thank you to Bonefall for helping me reread who this character is, and while the way our 'Camera' describes hee is still annoying, I can at least look past that and see the roots of this character.
I love Leafpool, and Hollyleaf. Met a lot of Leafpool fans who seem to think Hollyleaf is this monster when she very much reads as someone who cannot handle their religious and emotional abuse based trauma and lashed out at the wrong person. What she did to Leafpool was awful but she was basically an irrational teenager. Just like apprentice does not always equal child, warrior does not always equal "grown ass adult who should get over it". Her own existence went against every single thing she believed in and was told by her own mentor to never ever question.
As sweet as the scene with Dandelionkit and Juniperkit in Starclan was... There was really 0 point in giving Squilf 2 dead kids, other than "the writers hate her". The only thing I can see a point for it is for a long-shot setup to Squirrelstar for some lives seeing as you just know they absolutely forgot about Squish's friends.
• I think Ivypool has somewhat of a right to be upset with Dovewing. HEAR ME OUT. She is allowed to be upset, NOT take it out on Dovewing. She also needs to learn that she helped drive her sister out, but the writers are allergic to that kind of thing in favour of "make character a background conservative. If female = mom. If mom = soft until politcal debate scenario." She is allowed to be sad and upset that her only sister is gone, she just needs to acknowledge she messed up, as well as lots of Thunderclan cats messed up.
It's time to kill Brightheart, Brackenfur, Thornclaw and Cloudtail. Enough is enough, start retiring cats who were full warriors when TNP started. Tawnypelt should be in the Elders den and Oakfur should be rotting in hell for what he let happen to Berrynose. On that same note, I hope Russetfur went on trial for that and her attempt on Firestar's life. I like her but good GOD, that was egregious, and looks even more pathetic when Yellowfang's Secret reveals she herself wasn't Clanborn.
Tigerheart's Shadow is a good book (aside from that one 'territory' bit, you know the one) and this series could go FAR if they embraced the mysterious mystical elements they set up, people are far too harsh on the experimental things.
Moonkitti makes good points sometimes but I need younger fans to stop taking everything she says as gospel and start thinking for themselves; case in point the recent Mapleshade drama that REEKS of "if I was Orpheus I wouldn't have turned around". The writers call the Moonstone the Moonpool every time we revisit the forest, do you really think they remembered The Bridge? Did YOU remember the bridge or did Moonkitti point it out? Also, with how cosmically doomed from the start the story was, the water probably would have overtaken the bridge and STILL swept them away. For every one good take Moonkitti has they seem to have more than a few bad ones.
My silly one. FERNSONG SHOULD HAVE BEEN NAMED AFTER HONEYFERN AND BEEN A HONEYFERN CLONE APPEARANCE WISE. No problem with him being named for Ferncloud but could they PLEASE acknowledge that Cinderheart is Honeyfern's sister too? Poppyfrost named her baby boy after Molekit and Lilyheart named her daughter Honeykit despite never having met Honeyfern, and those don't feel like coincidences.
I dislike the Tribe as its concept, but I like some of the characters that came from it, know what I mean? I like OG Stoneteller (though I always pictured him very differently. I saw him as gray tabby with white paws!) I think he is an interesting character, and Outcast was a huge letdown with having him be wrong. It would be a nice change in story if the Clan cats had tried to push their way, only for it to NOT work, for there to be a different way to do things, or a trick the Tribe used in the past that they "could give another crack at", and for the Clan cats to learn that their way of life is not a golden standard. Could you imagine Hollypaw learning this? I also really like Brook. I dismantled her and I know she is a play on the stupid "Indian princess" trope. I love how sweet she is, though I hate how it was painted against the Tribe. I plan to keep that wisdom and kindness, while also making The Tribes just as good a place to live.
I don't think Tawnystar would've been a good idea, as good as a name like that sounds. She, like Bramble, is too old, and the writers can't stand killing off Arc 2 characters in favour of killing off Arc 3 and 4, we would have been stuck with her and the writing for leaders atm SUCKS. Tawnypelt also just... Isn't that great. While I like her, I don't think she would be a good leader. Same goes for Mothstar, though I feel like they could have it done better if they do have it happen by making her not want the 9 lives. After the absolute Christian slog ASC has been about "non believers" it would be cool to see her prove that wrong and put this shitty arc's hinge point in the ground once and for all.
I'm tired of Med Cat protags. We've had one since TNP barring Dawn of The Clans when arguably it would have been the most beneficial from Pebble Heart or Dappled Pelt. Leafpool was cool because she was the first, Jayfeather was kinda cool still because of blindness and being part of the Prophecy, and while his POV in OOTS was a necessary evil, we did not need Alderheart. There is no reason to have Alderheart be the POV when Sparkpelt has the objectively more interesting setup and Alderheart's "anxiety" works better when we can't see through his eyes, as the authors don't know what actual anxiety is. Shadowsight and Frostpaw are alright, through Frostpaw's pov suffers around Nightheart and she does suffer from Camera POV Syndrome at times... Not helped by her being a Female Warriors Character with all the lovely things that come with it. Shadowsight was cool until the writers completely fumbled the bag and made him rude, argumentative, and dropped his epilepsy for no reason. All this is NOT helped by the new retcon that you're just "born different" with some kind of inherit special connection to Starclan, like it wasn't some kind of learned thing, hence Cinderpelt struggling with it as a lot of the time she was on her own!
Let Daisy retire and let Sorrelstripe take over the nursery. These new characters are in desperate need of personality, let Sorrelstripe be a feisty, confident midwife who won't let Queens be bullied into things.

Adderfang 🐍
Went a bit crazy with the markings on this guy. He's Spottedleaf, Redtail, Leopardfoot, Willowpelt, and Patchpelt's dad. Did you know all those characters are siblings, bc I didn't. He mentored Thistleclaw and was mates with Swiftbreeze, also he was temporary deputy if the wiki is right.
I don't really remember this guy, like at all even though he's apparently in Tallstars's Revenge and Crookedstar's Promise, the only Pre-Arc 1 Post Dotc SE I have read. I'm guessing he's just a name in the allegiances, I might see him more if I read Bluestar's Prophecy or some of the Novellas set in Thunderclan at the time he was alive?
Trigger Warning for a Snake photo!
Just thought I might add the references I used for Adder's design. Here you go.

ITS SNAKE O' CLOCK!!! yay yippee wahoo! have you decided what you're doing with him or are you just thinking abt him :O?
Rotating him in my mind for my own sanity because I got to the part in Path of Stars where they've just. Completely retconned everything about him for the sake of forcefully making everyone of value forgive Clear Sky. The only person who stays mad at Clear Sky forever actually just liked One Eye better
Even though we saw him, on screen, looking at the camera and being like, "I Do Not Like Clear Sky Because His Bad Judgement Caused Us To Be Permanently Branded By A Tyrant Like We Were A Herd Of Texas Steers."
They did him SO dirty, man!! SO SO dirty!!!!!
On that note though, I HAVE decided on a few things!
So, on the note of defectors, Snake is going to be one of the very last ones. While I absolutely adore him, I think it's very important and meaningful that he is one of his most loyal cats.
Snake is a Mountain cat, and it's looking like he is going to be part of the Claw Family.
The Claw Family consists of Fox Claw and Petal Claw to begin with. I have an inkling of an idea that Petal Claw actually leaves while pregnant-- possibly escaping someone unsavory back at home.
I feel like she doesn't really enjoy romance. She's ambitious and ferocious, and whoever her lover was, was quite controlling.
Unfortunately it's a big reason why she's so committed to Clear Sky. She has that sort of unaddressed mindset that abuse often leaves you with.
"No, I know what an awful person is because of what I went through, and I'm telling you, Clear Sky is not that. YOU'Re actually the problem."
And, in turn, Clear Sky rewards her a lot. She is one of his favorite cats, she gets a TON of benefits for her loyalty. Tyrannical, terrible two of them.
Besties (threat)
Snake Claw and Red Claw would have been the first births in the forest, but Bright Storm gave birth early because of the stress and thus Thunder Storm came first.
So Snake and Red were brought up by Petal Claw and Fox Claw, in early Sky's Clan.
Fox and Petal were ADAMANTLY loyal to Clear Sky. They remained behind in the Shadow/Sky split, hissing and spitting at those who chose to follow Tall Shadow.
I feel like Fox was actually their primary parent. They call him Uncle, but he acted a lot more like a dad. It gave Petal more time to go do bad bitch things.
When Clear Sky murders Misty, much much later, Petal is given the kittens as a reward for her loyalty. Having more kits is a point of status, and she's very happy to accept the reward.
So, the Claw family becomes "huge" in a short period of time on this evil action. Petal Claw, Fox Claw, Snake Claw, Red Claw, Alder Claw, Birch Claw.
For Snake, he's raised accepting all this as good and normal. At some point, Fox Claw is killed in some kind of frighteningly violent, unnecessary, bloodthirsty skirmish that Clear Sky aggrieves, and Snake Claw doubles down right along with Petal.
He also does a lot of the WORST things on behalf of Clear Sky. He IS going to have a body count-- though he will no longer be killing BB!Frost (now Sunlit Frost), he does bite him on the good paw during The First Battle.
This bite goes septic, after Sunlit REFUSES to sit out gravedigging, helping to bury his friends and family with an open wound. He already has nerve damage in the other arm from his severe burn.
This choice, because he wouldn't take a break when he was told to, ends up MASSIVELY disabling him. Once a master builder and inventor, he loses his dominant paw and has chronic pain in the other one. He can't build anymore after this.
After Snake Claw defects, I actually really want them to struggle with this. Snake doesn't feel like it's fair to blame him for what Sunlit did to himself, but he's also NEW to Thunder's Clan later, and there's not a lot of people on his side.
And Sunlit is a person who holds grudges... but it's also true that it's kinda not fair, since Snake Claw is trying to apologize for it.
Somehow it's unsatisfying and frustrating, knowing that Snake Claw is only apologizing because everyone wants him to. But how can you expect him to be sincere about something the BOTH of you feel is not entirely his fault?
It's like Sunlit wanted to have him to blame, but that's hard when he's not Clear Sky's Minion anymore.
In the past, I'd gone back and forth on if Red Claw or Snake Claw defected, and now I'm realizing.... por que no los dos? Por que no los TRES?
Since I've committed to adding a third group and expanding on the Forest cats, this is going to mean that Snake's younger "adopted" siblings NEED to have full arcs with this.
While one of them will remain with Clear Sky, becoming a cultural "justification" for the practice of Kitten Stealing, which will plague Clan culture for generations, I think something is fascinating in the idea that they're the ONLY Claw to remain with SkyClan.
Petal Claw and Fox Claw die in battle, "honored" for their sacrifice.
Red Claw defects for ThunderClan first, after falling for the charms of Acorn Swoop
Alder Claw likely follows later... reconnecting with Misty's mate, Milkweed, who has been fighting for MOONS for this very moment
And, lastly, Snake will follow.
(It is also bitterly funny to me that it means Milkweed loses Misty, but then ends up gaining all of Petal's biokids. Never speak to me or my daughter or my son or my son or my daughter or my daughter or my daughter-in-law ever again)
Because Snake Claw will be the very last of the Claw family to defect, I'm thinking it's after the end of BB!DOTC, and over in Thunderstar's Justice.
KEEP the fact that Snake Claw leaves because of Skystar bringing One Eye into the Clan. Even keep the fact that most of SkyClan is loyal to their tyrant-- Snake Claw has woken up to the truth, and realizes he has family elsewhere who loves and misses him.
Well.... hopefully they still do. After everything.
Snake Claw should have a ton of fights with Red Claw and Alder Claw, I think, before the First Battle. Have them all be covered in scars
Because the whole family defects, it's easy for it to become a sensational story about Nepotism/Scabforming. Other Clans probably don't hold Snake, Red, and Alder in high esteem in their myths-- but until Darkstar's Commandment which bans Kitten Stealing, Birch Claw was easily the most venerated.
Aaaand that's it so far! I know for a fact now that Snake Claw is going to be a member of the Claw family, and that he is going to be a MAJOR antagonist through BB!DOTC. In Thunderstar's Justice, he's going to join his living family after finally being able to realize that Skystar is not worth following.
I want to keep that he is a villain for most of the story, because that's what I like best about the way he turns on Clear Sky from canon. He was everything Skystar ever wanted, he did every awful command, the blood is already dried under his claws forever and he was rewarded only with a permanent scarring.
Then, told it's "MY way or the HIGH way," he chooses the high way.

The Erins trying desperately to convince me they wrote an interesting morally gray character with Clear Sky, but they just gave us a fucking bully who everyone has to "ohh he's changed <:(" one billion times over, despite them completely missing the fact that Clear Sky doesn't deserve forgiveness because he was never truly sorry for the things he did and didn't actually grow from them. Also the damage was so extreme! So many victims of this man's behaviour and actions. C'mon man.
One Eye from DOTC is such a funny villain because like, I'm already so fucking angry with all the disgusting bullshit the "heros" have been doing or excusing in the past few books. Then BOOM, this evil orange man shows up to either murder or bully them all for one book like some locust plague, as if I'm supposed to give a shit.

Snake Gets Done Dirty
Remember, Clear Sky can NEVER have a consequence for his actions. Ever. If you're ever mad at him for any reason, YOU will be punished for being upset. Clear Sky is allowed to do anything he wants to you but if you don't start slurping you're the Real Bad Guy.
Tumblr media
Snake: "FUCK YOU! YOU'RE THE REASON WHY THIS HAPPENED"
Clear Sky: "uhhh... well..... oopsie uwu"
Snake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But don't worry, Snake is punished for the high crime of embarrassing Clear Sky by being dogpiled by the Clap At Baby Crowd.
Because, AGAIN, god forbid Clear Sky ever suffer a consequence of his actions.
Tumblr media
WHY ARE YOU BOOING HIM, HE'S RIGHT
Clear Sky poses this dumb speech about fighting One Eye like it's some big, beautiful, selfless act of service. He was ALWAYS going to do this-- HE WANTS HIS AUTHORITY BACK. He's ALWAYS been an ambitious asshole who hates taking orders from other people, and will clobber anyone who embarrasses him or offends his massive ego.
He's been like this since SUN TRAIL. He's ALWAYS been controlling and fragile with a hunger for power. There has NEVER been a version of Clear Sky that wouldn't have wanted to kill One Eye for taking his toys away, humiliating him publicly.
His piss-poor judgement has gotten DOZENS of people killed in pointless border skirmishes, in the First Battle, and now AGAIN to this tyrant. He had a fit like a child when people tried to warn him it was a bad idea, and he didn't listen!
Snake is the first cat who's done anything about it at this point. The only one who doesn't immediately cave and forgive him after Clear Sky puts on a display of crocodile tears. It's LONG overdue!
And yet, all these cats still gather around to come to his aid. They have NO reason to do this. Clear Sky has proven, OVER AND OVER, that he should NOT HAVE ANY AUTHORITY OVER PEOPLE. These cats have NO reason to trust him, they've all been screamed at, smacked around, and buried mauled loved ones because of him.
They've seen, at most, a month of two of peace under him following the greatest massacre in history, broken by yet ANOTHER bad call.
Writer's pet! Some guy on the writing team ABSOLUTELY projects themselves onto Clear Sky as some kind of power fantasy. There's no other explanation for this level of utter ineptitude.

Something very fucked up I noticed that includes Frecklewish like you brought up regarding her torture-porn-ish death:
Her AND Willow Tail, two female characters who have to suffer VERY terrible eye trauma (Frecklewish getting venom in her eyes from a snake, with Willow Tail getting her eyes fucking gouged out (not simply scratched like Brokenstar, mind y'all! Poor girl literally lost her eyes!)... they're given paragraphs or even pages of their suffering and of their physical state deteriorating right after, whereas like stated, compared to those like Brokenstar who also suffered eye trauma, his injuries are not described on the gorey level as the others.
Like I GET that Mapleshade was watching Frecklewish suffer, so ofc we're gonna SEE it, but that in of itself wouldn't be a problem if one of her other victims got similar treatment! Ravenwing for instance, you'd think she'd enjoy his suffering for ex. But he's given a VERY quick death. Just a simple bite to the neck, no claws ACTUALLY digging in to watch him bleed out, no tossing him around hearing him wail from her shaking him like a baby, or anything that could fit for Mapleshade's sadistic side of her she had by that point. Only Frecklewish is given a scene where she "properly" suffers. While it would apparently fit for how "dark" Mapleshade's book was apparently meant to be, It also got me asking...
Why is it that when mollies suffer eye trauma they get these descriptions on how terrible their pain is? Why is it not just limited to "I can't see!" like those like Brokenstar and left at that? Why is it always the women? Why do we NEED to read in-depth levels of molly eye trauma? I know Bonefall brought up how pointlessly gruesome Willow Tail's death is, something I didn't realize when I read Moth Flight's SE a long time ago so I had no idea it wasn't just another Brokenstar thing, so I'm not surprised Frecklewish has that same curse. And Vicky didn't even write past the first book of DOTC! How the fuck do these writers keep THAT shit going???
Oh Bonefall's post is what made me pick up on this actually! How the female characters get a lot more gore and miserable deaths compared to male characters with similar death scenes. This isn't a one off thing, it's a trend. Like other kinds of misogyny in the series, this keeps happening!
I don't wanna go and boldly say that every female death is drawn out torture porn while every male death is like two seconds but it's certainly a pattern with the series and that's why I thought it was notable to bring up. Cause there's a history of this, of making things so much worse and more miserable for the female characters than their male counterparts.
I think what makes it worse is that we're supposed to see these deaths as "earned" in some way? Like yes, Frecklewish is a victim in the narrative, but she's still demonized to some extent like how they harp on the kitten thing and have her attack Mapleshade.
