one thing you don't note is that despite the figures being shot from a high angle, thus making them agnostic to the direction of the bodies, their shadows are parallel to the uniform patern of bodies, creating a sense of unease, the fact no shadows overlap also add to this eerieness. also worth noting that the visual information for what the man is holding is in the shadow, since the shadow clearly shows it's shape which is just MWAH good photography.

Yeah it is such good visual work by all parties involved! Something would definitely get lost if we had overlapping shadows.

I felt like my post was already too wordy but the shadow for the gas mask is one of my favorite parts.

...Oh god! I didn't consider the secret 3rd thing of "humanoid shaped objects or creatures are suspended in the air." Now that's uncanny.

Funnily enough that's very close to how they executed the props for the photo. No Photoshop involved!
