1. favorite fic you wrote this year

man… i will always always love of linked arms and bruised hearts :’)) i know that the writing style may be just average but i have such a personal connection to that story. maybe its because i definitely self projected but i will always love friendships!!! i feel that its become such an important and recurring theme in my fics, if i’ll be honest <3

another favorite of mine is familiarity (it’s all sticky) <3 definitely an idea ive had for a long time and i had lovely @wuahae betaread it :’)) its very personal to me… idk i like to think of it as a fic that commemorates not only how much i do l*ve that loser but also how much i love cat <3

idk if this is cheating but of guitar strings and peeled tangerines earns its spot too!! the outline i made since the second half of the year and ive really been hyped and happy writing it <3 i feel like its a reflection of the nooks and crannys of moni imo </3 so its crazy that it’ll be even more personal than of linked arms and bruised hearts

OH I DEFINITELY HAVE SO MUCH FAVORITE ONES 😭😭 and alot of them will be from of linked arms and bruised hearts im afraid… i have a bad habit of rereading my works to see what i can improve on or what couldve been changed but also its a way to reflect on my growth as a writer

first, we have the scenes where reader and jichang come back to cheongju for the holidays :’) i think its just sooo domestic imo and it really does have u reflect on what reader and jichang have <3 i personally love the scene where reader finds out jichang has been keeping clippings of their articles <3 it does smth to my lil heart <3

another one is of course the train ride back home… idk to me its just a very sentimental scene about the idea of home and how they find it in each other :’))) particularly these passages always do smth to me

another scene in particularly loved writing is the scene between kevin and reader where they talked about reader’s life… they were discussing editorship and possible topics for the opinion piece and i just thought that the whole reflection of it was beautiful :’)

now for of guitar strings and peeled tangerines… ugh so much to say… first off i loved writing the scene where reader comes back to town… its the whole progression of them getting off the station, meeting juhak again, arriving at their father’s restaurant, u know the vibes :’)) in between every passage, u really see how much grief and resentment they hold towards this town.

The waves are strong enough to tip your balance. You do everything to stand on your own feet. The image of Jacob you drew on the sand has been washed off—it’s your fault for drawing it too close to the shore.

another one i loved writing is the flashback… the first time we see how much peeled tangerines mean between the two… just so much astonishment joy and love <3

12. favorite character to write about this year

rah i think my favorite charas to write abt were definitely the friendgroup in of linked arms and bruised hearts! i also really loved writing moonbae and reader :’))) to me, they just have so much love for each other!!! it was just so nice to see them grow in my eyes as well

if were talking abt members tho, i did love writing about eric :’))) i know i couldnt give justice to the plot with my whack writing style but it was a treat to write abt that lil guy!

im currently getting lost in thought over how much i love storytelling and specifically the stories of bloodborne and firewatch

nonsensical word vomit ahead

i think in firewatch ive seen a lot of discontent over the final twist and lack of connection between the main storylines, or just some stuff that isnt directly connected to eachother

and smth i feel like ppl need to accept that things can exist without being connected directly in a story

sure theres reasons but theres never a genuine need for it

i dont even remember exactly why im saying this actually

anyways, bloodborne

i dont think a game will ever top how well it achieved its own flavour of lovecraftian horror, a slowly changing environment that shows the passage of time. seeing the hunt progress as the night gets darker, the horrible secrets that are finallt revealed once you slay mergos wetnurse and that poor poor child is put to rest. the vaguness of the story where it refuses to spoonfeed you its story, where item descriptions are no longer a way to easily learn whats happening around you. instead you discover the story from the environment and watching as the townspeople that scorned you slowly turn into beasts, as the townscape slowly disfigures and the amygdalas previously hidden are now seen through insight, and as they say, eyes on the inside.

i think my favourite video essay analysis ive seen of bloodborne is called vicseral feminimity. it discusses the sheer amount of childbirth and period imagery and themes within the game, how women are rarely seen on the streets transformed into beasts, and the women we do see are barely transformed yet are extrodinarily harder to fight then the male coded beasts. the old ones inenvitably lose their children and seek a surrogate, the one reborn being birthed from the moon from a horrid experiment.

ive legitmitaly lost where i was going with this but i will say bloodbornes game design is also phenomenal, it forces you to play agressively and in turn, it codes you to play agressively in other souls games. which arguably make the games more fun rather than hiding behind a shield the entire time. which in all fairness is smth i would absolutely do

I kinda… maybe wanna play a Final Fantasy game? Maybe? I know it’s probably weird for me to say as a JRPG buff, but my relationship with the series is very complicated.

I’ve never really been that interested in it, and I’ve tried to get into it multiple times just bc I feel like FF is that franchise every JRPG enthusiast needs to play as a right of passage or smth, but every time, I just couldn’t get invested at all.

… that is, until my old boss badgered me to play Final Fantasy VII Remake, and I loved it. I’d never had that much fun with a Real-Time Action RPG before.

So… I kinda want to give the franchise another shot, but I don’t know where to start, bc I’ve played several of them, and couldn’t get into them for specific reasons.

I’d heard from numerous sources that 10 was the best entry for beginners to the franchise, so I picked it up on PS3 forever ago, and the story pacing was just way too slow and confusing for me, and while I liked the combat well enough, it felt pretty vanilla to me as far as turn-based combat is concerned, and didn’t really motivate me to keep playing.

I’ve tried the original FF7, and I kind of liked what I played, but overall, the game just really didn’t age well, and I got really annoyed with the clunky UI, how difficult it was to navigate all the low-resolution maps where doors and pathways are often too LQ to discern, and the lack of direction on where I’m supposed to be going ( I hope Ever Crisis comes to Switch eventually, bc I think I’d really enjoy that ).

I tried 15 as well, and I actually quite enjoyed what I played. I think I just got interested in other titles and never went back to 15, but I don’t generally have any major complaints on my experience with that.

For what it’s worth, I’ve tried Kingdom Hearts too, and just… really didn’t enjoy it. I played through the entirely of the first game, which was a thoroughly unpleasant slog the entire way through, mostly bc of how clunky and stilted the combat was. Then I moved on to Re: Chain of Memories, and hated that even more. I’ve heard it gets better as the series progresses, but given what I know about KH’s story and how important it is to consume all the games to understand what’s going on in later entries, I really don’t want to go back to Chain of Memories. That game is like “Hey! What if we took all the worst qualities of the first game, and made them much, much worse. Also, we’re adding card game mechanics to a real-time combat system, bc fuck you”.

I think… I need new RPG to play

IDK what’s wrong w/ me lately, but I’ve been so uninterested and burnt out on a lot of the RPG franchises I usually obsess about ( Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Persona/SMT, Octopath Traveler, Pokemon, Megaman Battle Network, among others ), but I’ve been trying to play them and I’m just so uninvested in them lately. It feels like nothing new that I’m interested in has come out lately, and I could really use a fresh new RPG title.

And I don’t mean just any title. I need something I can just chew the hell out of. Something I can go absolutely feral for. Not just any cookie-cutter fantasy plot, but characters, stories, and gameplay that will have me frothing at the mouth as I play.

Y’all got any suggestions? Particularly any for the Switch?

I generally mostly enjoy turn-based RPG’s. I’m not opposed to real-time action ( like Nier: Automata ) or a hybrid ( Xenoblade ), but I really prefer turn-based RPG’s. Tactical RPG’s are good too ( Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles, Shining Force ).

man the more i think abt what to write for this tweet the more im thinking abt the 2 books b4. when the companions get together in the under city, bruneor was absolutely out for the count he was just ,, but now he’s vengeance driven and ready to take on all these darn drow— but now that he’s taken revenge, he can continue to heal. eradicating all the drow a hundred times over won’t bring wulfgar back, he has to heal further still, but it’s progress :)

ill say for the record, i enjoyed khazidheas bod control ;; hEAR ME OUT. so drizzt knows that catti brie loves him ever since halflings gem, and after their duel in the clearing they have an official talk. when i read the ‘we need to talk’ i had to take a step away from this book for a little bit cos like, im thinking too hard abt it, but iirc that was the last sentence wulfgar said to her. during their talk catti brie reflects abt that the words khazidhea said through her, also reflected statements that she wanted. let’s ignore that like a billion things were already happening, like guen couldn’t return to the astral plane, or there was a war coming soon, drizzt turned her down and that was for the best, because if he didn’t they probably wouldn’t be having this talk. but deep down a piece of her did want to have sex with drizzt, but if they did that night, they wouldn’t be this close. UGH i swear im not trying to be psuedointellect, im just having a hard time explaining i hope you understand wut im saying :,) they love each other and admit it, but they both know now isn’t a good time with wounds still so fresh.

remember how i said i HATED and was absolutely DISGUSTED with Catti Brie and Drizzt ? ive been thinking it over and come to some conclusions. they rly weren’t as close as i thought they were, maybe some time after wulfgar arrived (idk how close sojourn is to the crystal shard but it must be pretty darn close) and maybe bruenor would want catti brie closer cos he has so much 2 manage so that’s why they’re semi close but not like that close. like after they get back from settlestone and catti brie says smth like ‘fighting him sober is as crazy as walking into a sleeping bear den’ and Drizzt goes ‘hey! I did that!’, wouldn’t a story like that be like, one of the things you’d tell a child,, cos it’s so ebic and cool. so it gets a pass from me

speaking of catti brie, independence and being her own person has been big now that im realizing. ofc it’s pretty obv in the legacy, and in starless night she runs off on pretty much her own, and in this one she has to overcome khazidhea on her own and by the end of the book she rides alone out into the world (well drizzt follows her, she’s stubborn but id imagine she was also secretly aching for that too)

ill b honest,, most if not all of the battle on fourth peak (except for the parts w alustriel <3) i was not following. like i read it, but combat and war rly just isn’t smth im good @ sowwy

1) of the fic you’ve written, which are you most proud of?Hmm… probably all my colors? Like, there’s a lot I’d like to go back and change, but at the end of the day it was my baby for a good two plus years and there’s a lot of personal stuff sprinkled in there. It kinda shows my emotional progression throughout high school in the story, and while that’s def not why I wrote it, it’s cool to go back and look at it sometimes to see the things I used to say/think about. Plus it’s one of the only massive projects of mine that I’ve actually completed, lol.

Also I have a lot of love for amc just bc it’s so… different, I guess? Like, I’ve never really seen something like it fleshed out into a full-length story, especially not with silver and blaze. And the fact that it rlly touched several ppl and got them rlly into it… that makes me feel kinda accomplished when I’m not being a self-deprecating prick lmao. I rlly rlly wanted it to be my first fic to get to 100 reviews for a reason!

2) favorite tense (past/present/future)Definitely past, I tried present with the unforgiven and it just made it frustrating to write, lmao.

3) favorite POV (first/second/third/etc)I prefer writing in first person, actually. I think it simplifies things for both the writer and reader, and I’ve always found a lot more freedom to be creative when I write in first person.

4) what are some themes you love writing about?Lmao well, obviously romance is priority one for me, so most of my themes stem from that. I rlly love writing about class struggle tho, whether it’s someone low who’s aiming high or a noble who isn’t satisfied with such a high class. Morality also comes up a lot in my writing, I guess; tryna figure out what the right thing to do is, tryna figure out if this character actually did the best thing, all that good stuff!

5) what inspires you to write?Definitely music… sometimes I’ll stray from it and pick up some inspo from movies/stories/etc, but 99% of the time I’ll be listening to a song and suddenly come up w a fic idea from it lmao.

6) thoughts on critiqueI encourage it!! bc I think it’s the only real way to improve. Sometimes it can make me feel bad if I’m in one of those rlly shitty self-deprecation ruts, but still I usually get over it soon even when I’m like that. I know it’s for the better, and I appreciate everyone who’s ever been kind enough, and cared enough abt my writing to give me critique!

7) create a character on the spot…. NOW!UMMMM OKIE,,, what abt a snow leopard named Kyra… she likes to sit around n read n eat noodles… her main hobby other than reading is dancing. she’s v shy but she loves her close friends n BAM I just made her gay. She’s a lesbian, harold.

8) is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why?Most - probably silver… his personality is always one I’ve gotten a lot of joy out of writing. He’s basically a walking contradiction, lmfao. He’s also pretty easy for me to self-project onto, idk why. Least - I’m gonna say amy for this one, just because it’s been hard for me to focus on more than one aspect of her personality and flesh all of it out. Plus amy is a somewhat overused character lol, I get a lot more fun out of writing blaze/tikal/others when I need a female role, even if it’s something simple

It was nearly a fortnight before any word was received from King Pyrus. It came in the form of a small parcel addressed to Blaze, which held a note inside for her. The young princess jumped at the feet of the servant who had brought it in, and once it was lowered into her hands, she hurried to her chamber. Once there, she closed the door behind her and jumped on her bed, unable to contain her excitement. With a careful claw and an eager expression, she tore the parcel’s paper away. Before looking at what it contained, she snatched the note from her father, and brought it to her face. It read:

My Little Flame,

I am sorry I could not write to you sooner. I remain busy, but I finally began exploring, and I found something I think you will simply adore. It is a traditional robe (I believe it is called a kimono) from here in the Eastern Isles. It is just as beautiful as the land, and just as special as you are to I, my dear. We must make plans to bring you here one day, it astounds me each time.

Do not fret about the ongoings in the world, how ever much you have heard. Kiniti watches over us at all times, and she will ensure peace among all kinetics. Hopefully, I will depart in the coming few days, and we will see one another soon.

Blaze, of course, merely skimmed over the second half of the note as a formality. She laid the message aside, and her jaw dropped once she held the kimono out. It was a beautiful shade of dark purple, with an equally enchanting design. Trails of dainty cherry blossoms sat on rugged branches, which climbed up either side of the robe. The silk seemed to melt between Blaze’s fingers; it was the softest material she had ever felt. She rubbed one of the sleeves against her cheek, and purred into it. When she turned the robe over, she gasped. A large, pink bow was already tied at the back, as if it had been made just for her. She slipped the kimono over her shoulders, and although the sleeves hung low over her arms, the length was just right. Blaze tied the pieces of ribbon at her waist, just as Pyrus had taught her, and words could never express how delighted she was with the gift. She could not wait to show her father once he returned.

As Blaze was fitting her tail through the bow on her back, Baxton entered the room. Whenever Pyrus was absent, it was usually Baxton who took up the king’s general duties. He signed letters, addressed the people, attended court; it kept him quite busy. The only responsibility he didn’t inherit was any control of he army - the sole post he would be familiar with. Quite the chore it was, but Baxton was always fond of his temporary sovereign role. At least in terms of the power he held, that is. In fact, Blaze assumed that he had been yelling at some servants not too long ago, judging by his flushed face.

The elder cat scratched his head. “Princess, did the king leave a letter?”

Blaze pointed to the note on her bed. Baxton scurried to it, and frowned as he glanced over the elegant handwriting. “Is this it?” he quizzed.

The princess nodded, and held her arms out with a smile. “Look, Baxi! Look at what father sent me!”

Blaze couldn’t quite tell what Baxton’s expression conveyed, but it was something between a smile and a scowl. The note crumpled in a quick motion from Baxton’s fist, and was thrown back onto the bed cover. Blaze didn’t think much of this as Baxton hurried out, and she walked to her mirror to admire the kimono again.

10) what are your strengths wrt writing?Hmm… I get a lot of ppl saying that I’m pretty eloquent when it comes to phrasing/word choices? I’m constantly tinkering with how things are said, even up until like 30 seconds before I publish smth lmao. I also like to think I never just string sentences together and leave it at that when I’m narrating, I pay a lot of attention to how different sentences/phrases flow together.

11) what are your weaknesses wrt writing?My main weakness would probably be going overboard on all the little things, like how a sentence sounds or flows and stuff like that. I end up being a perfectionist with it, and sometimes when I’m crafting/changing phrases around, I end up with a sentence that kinda drags on or tries to do too much.

12) what’s your favorite place for writing resources?Tumblr’s pretty good for me, actually. I rarely ever seek out resources, but I do reblog a lot of them that come to me here and they’ve been very useful to me in the past.
