She probably not the best person to cuddle with, definitely not the worst.

Cuddle time with you might as well be a mental stress reliever for her, basically her equivalent of heaven. She'll basically melt in your embrace if she had an extremely exhausting day of either having to deal with Cyn's tail antics or just having to deal with the fact she turned herself into God. 

She'll go out of her way to ask for affection. Typically, by (depending on who you want to be) using her solver to pick you up and bringing you over to her. Basically semi-possessive in some senses. 

Her 'cuddles' however consists of her wrapping her -smoll- arms around you and squeezing way harder than what's necessary. She probably won't notice she was being way too rough until you legitimately start yelling at her, only then will she realize that she bent some metal on your body. 

She still has that rejectful attitude, meaning that she'll pretend that she doesn't like it and only did it to make you 'shut up.' Ignoring the fact that more than likely she's the one who initiated it.

When the only company you have was two people who basically abused you to some extent, it can be pretty hard to know how to cuddle. Especially depending on who you are, because then it could get awkward. Not that he's against it or anything, just that awkward situations lead to awkward outcomes. 

He may need a book for this.

To be more clear, he is absolutely open to cuddles! I'd imagine that there are long days for N that are stressful, sure. The little cinnamon roll (Fandoms words not mine) would absolutely need some of that.

After reading the same book about a few hundred times about how to cuddle -assuming there is even a book for that and that he's not just winging it- he can assume he finally figured it out. 

All while having the stupid sunglasses on his visor, trying to act cool and calm he'll slowly wrap his tail around you (more out of safety) and put his arm around you all while he's trying not to panic that if you even wanted to cuddle.

She's... Someone! To cuddle with!

She's previously murdered drones before, brutally. The murder part was in the job description, the brutal part does. Occasionally she would be flirty to the drones she was killing to bring their guard down, only to kill them minutes after. 

My point with all of this? Depending on how early you met her, you may have been witness to one of these sessions, which could make trusting her cuddles hard. That doesn't stop you from trying for whatever reason!

I say you because she'll almost never initiate any of it unless she was feeling really icky. But when she does have one of those icky days, she's basically the same as with N, only softer with it and more prone to shutting off (sleeping) during it. Again, she does it when she's icky. It takes some effort to actually do it when she isn't feeling vulnerable to some extent. 

When that kind of thing happens, she's rougher with how she goes about it, usually reluctantly wrapping her arm around you if she's annoyed by you for some reason, or unnecessarily flirty with you, basically hugging you like a teddy bear.

As heartless as she may be regarding some previous employees, she isn't a complete asshole when it comes to your two's relationship. By that, I mean she'll actually at least put some effort into it. 

More than likely, like V you're probably the one who forced her to cuddle. I do mean forced, because unlike V, J won't go out of her way to cuddle with you if she's feeling Icky or depressed, rather trying to handle it on her own. But she won't lie that having physical contact with someone she lo-

The way she goes about the whole cuddling thing is just kind of... not? If that makes sense. She'll barely hug you, and even then, it's more of a side-hug than an actual hug. She's not repulsed by the idea of cuddling you, but she's still on the hinges about it.

To make up for this, she'll usually compliment you on your looks, effort you put into work, existing at all. 

"Good job on surviving against us for so long."

"...Is that meant as a compliment or...?"

"Did it not come off as a compliment?"

I will say outright that she's less prone for physical contact with you than any other drone purely because she's a more 'married to her work' kind of gal. But dammit, she values you barely more than her distraction- work. And she'll put some effort into cuddling you.

Idk if my previous posts were unclear but I don't remotely hate any Optimus version that isn't IDW or think they suck. Every Optimus is good and there's a fan (or multiple fans!) of every version of OP no matter how obscure or underrated (as well as all the other characters).

What's more questionable (or at least annoying) is when fandom ignores canon character personalities in favor of writing specific archetypes that are either out of character or repetitive/stereotyped to the point of annoyance. As an example of this, it would be a female character being called the Team Mom just because she's a woman existing in a group of (primarily male) characters even if she's not remotely motherly or nurturing. Or, as a more topical example, how often I've seen Transformers ships where even though both characters are canonically masculine (or gender neutral), fanartists love to turn one of the characters small and weak (or even outright feminine) to turn the ship into Strong Dominant Seme and Sweet Cute Uke to fit a specific kink or romantic fantasy, even if it's a disservice/OOC to portray those characters like that.

In other words, a fandom's popularity of certain characters, ships, headcanons, etc is often more informed by tropes and forcing canon to adhere to one's personal tastes, as opposed to approaching canon and trying to understand it on its own terms. I'm not talking about the quality of the source material, but rather the way that the fandom interprets the source materials in ways that don't make any sense, approach it in bad faith, or just generally don't care about canon at all. So I'm not saying one OP is better than another, my problem is when fandom consistently focuses on certain stereotypes or flanderizations of a character, and then any character that doesn't fit the popular (often stereotyped) mold is ignored or virulently rejected. In other words, I think popular fandom often does a DISSERVICE to characters whether they love them or hate them, it just takes different forms.

So, just as an example, I think one fandom caricature of Optimus that I see a lot (and heavily dislike) is making Optimus some sort of shrinking wallflower type who's innocent, sweet, and virginal, in contrast to an opposite caricature of Megatron that's big, strong, dominant, and rugged, and making ship art that forces the characters into some kind of seme/uke or borderline heteronormative romance. Despite the fact that canon Optimus (in, say, TFP for example) is tall, broadly built, deep voiced, dignified, assertive, and strong (physically and morally), completely incorrect interpretations of him as a shy feminized uke type are still pretty common to find. And it makes you ask yourself why it is so many people make MOP ship art of them of The Small One and The Large One or The Small, Cute One and The Big, Violent One when it's completely different from canon. It feels as if such fanart is made by people who just want to see seme/uke style slash ships, and if canon doesn't give them what they want, they'll simply trash it and replace it with their own version, even if it's completely OOC.

So when I said in my other post that people don't like IDW Optimus because he can't be fit into caricatures like happy dad or shy twink, I'm not saying it to say "other OPs who resemble that suck," I'm saying it to express "Fandom tends to simplify characters into easily palatable and comfortable tropes, and when they encounter a character they can't do that with, they respond by ignoring or even hating on that character."

Other versions of Optimus have the problem where fandom turns them into a stereotype instead of the actual character they are, e.g. portraying TFA OP as some poor abused damsel with no self confidence and crippling anxiety being abused by his superiors, and then they talk more about this fake uwu smoll bean cinnamon roll version of TFA OP than they do about actual canon TFA OP. And honestly I can't think of any prominent content/meta about G1 OP that isn't just "he plays basketball and does funny one liners and is Team Dad/Grandpa." (Hell, you even get that with non-Optimus characters that get simplified to just sexy twink, old grandpa, comedy relief, evil ex, Diversity Win-- She's A Lesbian, third wheel to the favored ship, etc even though there's way more depth to them than just their surface level stereotype.)

IDW OP's problem is that he can't be stereotyped like that so instead the fandom ignores him. He's not small, so they can't stereotype him as a skinny twink getting topped by a burly uke. He's not jovial or happy go lucky or extroverted, so they can't stereotype him as Team Dad or Comedy Relief. He's assertive, blunt, and has a temper, so they can't stereotype him as a shy wallflower in need of protecting. He makes catastrophic mistakes and is responsible for bad things happening, so they can't stereotype him into a sweet cinnamon roll who has never done anything wrong in his whole life or The Infinitely Wise and Kind Paragon. There's no Big Bad Authority Figure who was mean to IDW OP and traumatized him, so they can't excuse the bad things he did as "he's traumatized so he couldn't help it" and wave away his flaws as "it's his abuser's fault, they made him this way." IDW OP has the kind of depression where he's grumpy, shut off, and angry-- as opposed to the shy, sad kind of depression that just stares forlornly out of the window in a beautifully tragic way-- so they can't make him into a sad woobie kicked around unfairly by life.

Or I guess they just stereotype IDW OP as "evil bastard with no redeeming qualities that's mean to everyone for no reason, plus the writers forced everyone to like him just because he's Optimus Prime" even though that isn't accurate either.

Put bluntly, IDW OP forces fandom to contend with the idea that someone can be a good person with good intentions but still fuck up on a massive scale and maybe end up hurting more than they helped. IDW OP is messy, ugly, flawed, mean, stoic, closed off. When IDW OP has mental breakdowns or has his feelings hurt, he's loud and angry and harsh, and the consequences of what he did while he was unwell continue to haunt him long after. In other words, he actually experiences negative emotions the way a real person would, and sometimes when he's under the influence of negative emotions, he lashes out or does stupid things (like a real person might) instead of inoffensively crying in a corner somewhere. He isn't sanitized enough for a fandom that only wants Perfect Pure Good Optimus Who Never Hurts Anyone Even By Accident, so instead of IDW OP's mistakes and dark moments being treated as the logical end point of a person put in constant no-win situations until he breaks, he gets treated as if his mistakes and flaws make him an irredeemable bastard with no good qualities who should've fucked up less often to make fans actually like him.

And this is all in a fandom where 90% of the characters are war criminals and a good half of them have massacred organic planets. But god forbid IDW Optimus ever make a bad decision in a stressful situation. Or be mean to someone. Or have a character arc about how blindly idolizing people as paragons ends badly for everyone involved because no one can be that perfect. He is simply The Worst Optimus Ever and there's absolutely nothing about him worth discussing.

And just to be clear, the problem isn't the fact that some people don't like IDW OP, or he's just not their thing and they don't care.

The problem is the fact that he's consistently and actively hated by the fanbase who makes a concentrated effort to say he sucks and make sure none of their fan works ever include him. It's literally at a level where I stopped looking in the Optimus tag on this website because I was tired of people randomly going "and btw IDW OP sucks and I want to drown him in a ditch" in posts that weren't even about IDW, and I stopped looking for MegOP fic on AO3 because most of it is IDW Megatron/clearly TFP or G1 inspired continuity soup Optimus. Places that are Optimus friendly for Optimus fans, where I could reasonably expect to find positive conversations, but instead get sucker punched by hate about the character The Space Is About. And I can't even have conversations asking about why they do, bc the way 90% of them talk, I can tell they literally just didn't read the comics or deliberately misinterpreted the story.

I find it bizarre and frankly, tragic, that the hate train for IDW OP is so pervasive that people actively erase and replace him from fan works IN THE IDW UNIVERSE in a way that no other character is targeted in. I have tried so hard to understand why IDW OP gets this sort of hate and erasure when other characters who were as bad or worse than him have perfectly normal takes about them that go "yeah he kinda sucks but he's cool and I like him" or "who cares if he's problematic IRL, it's a story." The only conclusion I can come to is that because Optimus Prime (TM) has a specific brand image and is locked into being a cultural icon, he's held to a standard of The Ideal Perfect Hero instead of the way better standard of "Is he an interesting, well written character?"

Shinya Voss/ (informant) Spacefarer [Starfield]

HEAR ME OUT! Let me paint a picture here:

Shinya Voss: The Evil Space Pirate’s ultimate money man. A man who committed a gruesome act of loyalty, who submitted to having a bomb implanted in his chest to keep him in line. He’s integral to the faction’s success—therefore, he can never slip up. Never show doubt. Never give anyone the impression that he’s got second thoughts. It would be a death sentence if someone questioned his loyalty. 

So when you meet him, he has this demeanor of fierce, steely devotion. 

(How much of it is real? How much of it is a survival mechanism?)(How much of his initial agreement was coercion? Or was it true loyalty, secretly lost over the years?) (The game never tells us.)

And then there’s the player character: caught and arrested while stealing for what is ultimately supposed to be a just cause. But while in custody, the player is forced into the informant role. 

Mission: take these pirates down from the inside. 

A suicide mission, as far as everyone around you is concerned. And yet, the player quickly becomes the rising star of the faction. And then, its ultimate downfall. 

The HQ is surrounded by authorities, and it’s all gone to shit. You can talk to Shinya in this final mission. He starts all calm and cool, his villainous monologue ready to go, but then he drops the act. He begs you to get him out. Find the remote controls of the bomb in his chest, and disable it, before he’s used to send them all to hell. 

It’s somewhat implied that this is the first time he’s been honest in a long, long time. 

Both he and the player are made violent tools of greater, conflicting interests. I find that dynamic compelling. I like to imagine after getting the bomb disabled, as the rest of the base is being secured, the Spacefarer and he just. Slip through everyone’s fingers. They fuck off and drop off everyone’s radar entirely :)

Nothing specific is coming to mind at the moment, so I’ll go broad. And….. Hah, you’re not going to like me for this, anon. No one’s gonna like me for this. Regardless: 

As your (un) local joyless fuck, for me, it’s gotta be anytime a character gets “smoll bean”-ified. You know, where:

“Character X…… he just. He cares so much????? He’s sweet???? He’s just a cinnamon roll actually???? Guys his nuance and unique situational experience has been flattened and generalized so I can relate to him and/or find him morally acceptable to like?????????🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰”

Like, sometimes…… a motherfucker just isn’t friend-shaped. You shouldn’t have to feel like you gotta reframe him as someone who is. Sometimes he’s jagged and angry and spiteful. Why sand those edges down? Sad!

Sorry. I know posts like that are probably from teenagers, so it really isn’t some great crime. I’m sure they fill everyone with warm, happy, wholesome emotions, or whatever. do you ship midam?

short answer: I like them a lot but no, I can't say I actively ship them. It's more of a fun ship-in-law.

long answer:

I'm not very invested in it. I kind of wish I was! I read fics that include them, but I don't go looking for stuff that focus exclusively on Michael/Adam romance (unless I randomly decide I want to read pwp, or if it's a fic rec/a fic written by someone I really like/trust with the characters).

I AM interested in their dynamic, but mostly the non-romantic themes (friendship, vesselhood, etc) and most of the time I'm much more invested in Michael (= what it means in terms of character development for Michael in general) than Adam... If I had to choose a Michael/human ship I would probably pick Michean or Michael/Sam because I'm much more interested in these human characters and the character development that would need to occur for them to end up with Michael.

One big turnoff for me is that a lot of fanon Midam dynamics are based on late season canon (which makes total sense since their only real interactions take place in S15), and I dislike most post-Kripke era characterizations, especially Buckleming!Lucifer, meaning Cagefics/Cage hcs are a bit annoying to me in the context of Midam in a corner + Buckleming!Lucifer who is mostly ignored or used as a plot device for Midam angst (trying to torture Adam or whatever); I also dislike how Buckleming!Lucifer's unidimensionality leads to a less complex interpretation of his dynamic with Michael, which flattens Michael's character as a consequence (e.g saying S5 Michael was lying when he told Dean he didn't want to kill Lucifer, etc.) that's a big nope for me - not matter the pairing/story, if your version of S5 Michael is completely indifferent to the idea of killing Lucifer then it's not Michael to me (and the swan song script agrees with me!) - and I'm not interested in him.

Speaking of flattening, that's another aspect that turns me off... there's nothing wrong with liking that, but the "pure, healthy unproblematic cinnamon rolls" interpretation of the ship does not appeal to me at all. I do like fun normalcore domestic aus, but only with some spice you know? Not necessarily angst, drama and heavy codependency, but at least something that addresses that the characters are more than y/n + y/n-with-wings in a coffeshop. (The same could be said for Michifer ofc, there are some popular fics/hcs about Lucifer being a smoll bean who did nothing wrong/etc.)

I don't think the "100% unproblematic" interpretation I just mentioned is the most common though, I've read great fics/hcs/metas that explore their characters in much more compelling ways... and in general I think Midam is fun and has a lot of potential for all types of interesting dynamics!!

However, looking for Midam 'content' is like a dodgeball game to me because of the headcanon incompatibilities I just mentioned (and the ones I kept to myself djfkjd), and at the moment the ship's potential doesn't motivate me enough to fuel me with the energy I would need to actively, regularly thread my way through this part of the fandom to look for things that tick all my boxes. Add Lucifer to the mix and it changes everything though; Midafer ftw 👑!!

One of my fave things in fiction is when a pairing is like "character A: big, tall and strong" and "character B: smoll, *supposedly weak* and sensitive" and later on we see character A crumbling down because they're a big cinnamon roll and character B comforting their big ass self, that is curled up on their lap like a huge ass cat, with pats to the head bc they don't know how to comfort people.

1. Hhouuughh. I could say a lot of things here. But I’ll stick to my routes and go with misinterpretations that piss me off th most. Minecraft story mode villains. Specifically the latter half of season 1, ones [aiden, Cassie, PAMA, Hadrien]. Understand that that’s probably an underwhelming answer seeing as you aren’t into Minecraft: story mode (understandable, most people arnt) but my god.

The number of rancid Takes I’ve seen ppl have for these characters. The number of blatant misinterpretations I’ve seen. There are maybe two people I know (outside of the friends I infected) who have takes I like. If that’s anything. And it makes me sooo upset as a villain enjoyer. Like! I won’t get into it but ahh. Aiden gets done dirty, Cassie gets ignored, PAMA gets brushed aside and used as a background character to push shipping agenda Constantly. There’s little enough mcsm fic as in, and out of the few PAMA fics theres only One I enjoy.

7. Oh god. Okay. This is where my own horrors are gonna show. 👍.

Vanessa (ahit), Belos, Pale King, ect. Big villains in fandoms that people tend to latch onto and either woobify, or demand you write paragraphs defending yourself if you like them. I used to LOVE Vanessa and now that love has faded because every time I wanted to talk about her immediately I had people going like. Ohh Vanessa. I like her as a character, but I can’t excuse her actions… on and on and on the same thing Over and Over. Which made me just. It’s tiring. And I still feel the compulsive need to justify fucking. Liking a character who does awful shit. It feels wrong to say just I like a morally reprehensible villain now. It’s compulsively I enjoy [villain]’s character and it pisses me off. And now I just tend to. Avoid talking villains in bigger fandom spaces. And liking them.

And that doesn’t even get into the misinterpretations for either shipping agenda or just UwU smoll perfect cinnamon rolls
