Today I discovered my Smokey Oaks have babies!!
Best photos I could get through the side of their bin, I'll try putting some cucumber in there in the next few days to see if I can get them up to the surface!

wonderful millipede day today!!
i went up to yamato scrub natural area, where a couple years ago an inaturalist user (jaykeller) posted some millipedes that as best as we could tell are Narceus gordanus, also known as the smokey oak millipede, at their most southern range.
i love those chunky things so ive been desperate to go see them since. today i finally made time in decent temperature to go look for them. at first i was only finding florida ivory millipedes (last four pictured, havent seen those since 2019 in miami) but after walking some distance away, my mom found a dead dried up millipede that i was certain was the kind i was looking for. we started digging in the dirt and dried plant debris and started to find just one after the other after the other in an area smaller than a coffee table
i love them. im so glad we found them. its so cool, its over an hour drive to see them but thats much closer than i thought id have to go to see them, theyre mostly in central and north florida

I'm so happy I got some baby Smokey Ghost/Oak millipedes yesterday. I love my weird little critters they've been munching on the carrots all night. I love seeing the little bites taken out of the carrots in the morning.

I’m getting a pet millipede soon. This is my first arthropod pet—I’ve always loved creepy critters. I would love some tips or facts about caring for a millipede so I’m more well-equipped (I have done some research already, but I would appreciate some tips from people who know how to care for one). I was thinking I would get a smokey oak millipede because I think they’re very pretty. Also, I would love name suggestions.

Ok Purgatory does have a problem
I was going to roll my eyes at that callout post. But I did some digging and unfortunately I agree that purgatory needs help. sshe keeps getting more animals and I noticed that she carelessly trades them around like collectibles. A lot of her posts paint an alarming picture of the care these animals recieve
for example, one of her geckos died today the 10th, and she only had that skunk gecko since December 1st 2022. She had it for less than a month and a half before it died. Other animals have also died pretty early in her care. She wants to become a snake breeder and its obvious shes getting her information from other bad caretakers and breeders
She admitted to having all of these animals. She lives in a 1 bedroom house and most things are kept in tiny containers.
3 Ball Pythons - Snibbles, Helena, Spoticus
1 Hognose - Sir Edgar Spicy Noodle
1 Rat - Willard
5 Crested Geckos - Syrax, Ceraxes, Pretzel, Loki, Nuggie
2 Leopard Geckos - Delta, Sonic
1 Skunk Gecko - Zippo
1 Dwarf Armadillo Lizard - Khaleesi
1 Pink Bellied Swift - Nameless atm
2 Corn Snakes - Diamond, Mini Spot
2 Cuban Tree Frogs - Frick and Frack
3 Cats - Biscuit, Mouse, and Panther
2 Kenyan Sand Boas - Worm and Silver
3 Smokey Oak Millipedes - Nameless 30+ Ish Isopods - Not naming them all
2 Hermit Crabs - Archimedes and Purple People Eater
1 Gargoyle Gecko - Nameless atm
1 African Fat Tailed Gecko - Alita
1 Colony of mealworms

Majin Buu just went into hibernation, so I made a little PSA using a video of him I managed to get from bribing him with squash. He is very sweet and gentle and they can geup HARD. You have to pull to get them off!
But yes, if you can, please leave some leaf cover in your yard so that some bug friends can stay warm over winter!
#bug stuff#entomology#my bugs#buu#originally wanted to be a millipede but didn't want to draw oodles of legs.#smokey oak millipede#he is a pale morph#isually his species are grey brown#my tiktoks#my videos#my pets#i named him buu because hes thiccc

Guess what... I managed to find some more millipedes at a reptile expo
This time some Smokey Oaks 👀
The one in my hand started nibbling me right as I took them out of the container. was very hungry I take it, it was the only one that went to town on the cucumber slice I gave them.
Yay :3
