Put On Your Raincoats | Smoker (Rocket, 1983)

The easiest way to describe this would be that it’s like Olga’s House of Shame, if everybody who worked for Olga was a moron. You get Sharon Mitchell giving a great performance as a politically radical dominatrix, who at one point wears a leather Cobra Commander hood and a thong, who wants to retrieve a bomb disguised as a dildo. That synopsis automatically makes this a good movie, but there are other things going for this movie too. Like the great visual style. There’s a lot of nice, chiaroscuro type lighting, and blinking neon lights through blinds. The shot compositions are rigidly geometric, which gives an added charge to some of the kinkier activity, like the shot of the woman tied up in the villains’ lair in the middle of the frame, or the shot through a two-way mirror where we watch two lesbian lovers have sex while our hero David Christopher watches along with us and masturbates while partaking in some gender play. And on that note, this is ostensibly a roughie as a lot of the sex is nonconsensual, but I found it less noxious than a lot of the other entries I’ve seen, as the energy here is very different. This feels less like a quick and dirty effort made by and for scumbags, and more like a midnight movie or an art punk manifesto that just happens to be a porno. Part of me wants to believe that the director really was a politically radical dominatrix, just like Mitchell’s character.

So this is very much worth a look, and going back to its qualities as a porno, there are some pretty good bondage-assisted or otherwise kink-flavoured sex scenes if you’re into that sort of thing. (Which ones I found hot is none of your damn business, and let me once again tap the sign that says this a judgment-free zone.) But I think it falls short of greatness, as it doesn’t have the greatest sense of narrative momentum, and also has a weirdly passive protagonist. On paper, I find the choice to make the hero kinky and submissive-coded pretty novel, and it allows for some interesting variety in the sexual proceedings. Aside from the gender play, he also has a scene where he watches federal agent John Leslie fuck his wife Joanna Storm and have her recite the contents of their fridge while he watches and eats his dinner. But he really seems along for the ride, and in fact it’s Leslie who cracks the case, without too much help from him. I think it would have been better if Christopher were the one to save the day, and even better if he’d been able to somehow use his fetishes to do so. So it’s not a perfect movie, but still well worth checking out.

I tried the Tillamook Country Smoker Teriyaki Zero Sugar Beef Jerky and it was pretty good.

This beefy jerky was firm, soft and chewy in texture while having a faint sweet soy sauce like teriyaki sauce taste.

This beef jerky was a little dry in texture but had some chewy bits of beef like chewing gum in texture that I had to spit out which is a first besides those rare pieces I can still eat it.

This beef jerky was lightly salty.

I would eat this again.
