OK you know that. Thing. When you’re watching a piece of visual media that’s been going on for a while, and it started with very simple, almost abstract, character designs, but as time went on and the artist skills/technology improved, and they could consistently make more elaborate character designs, new additions to the cast would be more consistently elaborate in their design and the characters who were grandfathered in from those earlier installments wind up looking a little goofy alongside them?
Is there a name for that? Is this a recognized phenomenon? I’ve been calling it character design creep in my head
#i’ve been watching sesame street with my niece#elmo and big bird and oscar have these dead simple almost abstract character designs#but the studio can now make consistently more elaborate muppets they’re alongside muppets that are just. people. in clothes. with hair#this is also the thing in kirby games and tredlocity’s val and isaac comics#all good pieces of media! this isn’t a bad thing! this is a perfectly neutral thing!#but in val and isaac you have things like zuri a beautiful antennaed humanoid alien in elaborate costumes#alongside isaac. who is a blue smock with a hat#and it’s very silly and i like it a lot

i have a post on trad folk wear in england brewing away in the drafts but i'm not strong enough to actually send it off into the world
#i tend to think twice posting content that could be used by nationalists or racists particularly in light of recent events#but the gist of what i was trying to say was how deranged it is how we (the english) live in exceptionalism and denial of our own -#working class and sneer at its associated diverse folk traditions. what makes things 'english' is a fraught topic & worthy of study#id even say its important to arm yourself with cultural literacy - when the concept of 'england' is consistently hijacked by racists#this was inspired by a costume blog that i like that did a series of posts on folk wear around the world and the post for england was suits#just...suits. but is that not the image of ourselves that that we've cultivated since the 1800s? a contrived one most definitely.#no blame on the poster they were covering literally every country which is a huge amount of work & it was an incredible project#and of course most places have clothing far more impressive than anything we could come up with. but still. i think. i think.#is the intricate farmer's smock not beautiful? is the boatmen's cobweb belt not worthy of study?#are we doomed to consign ourselves to drabness for the sake of status? we sold out our soul for supremacy i fear#anyway i am once again thinking of zakia sewell's my albion where she discusses this

a painting from last january (mixed media is an understatement)
#al:an own#al:an art#art: traditional#i used paint and three different types of glue#but i also used ink to tie dye some tissues i glued to it#theres a couple pieces of fabric i also tie died#theres newspaper and this weird paper table cloth that's like paper towel but also isnt#at some point i wanted to glue some smocked pieces of fabric#but I didn't want it to end up looking too bulky#anyway#the canvas i made this on was about 40x26 inches

Don't know why, but I decided to use these two DR bases to make some new outfits for some of those OC sprites I made a while back...plus one more! The full credit for Cherry's sash goes to this link; it's the coolest thing ever tbh
#cherry makes/repairs plushes specifically#but she'd be called the ultimate seamstress just cause it flows nicer#i mean she Can sew clothes too she just usually doesn't#man she looks weird without her ears LMAOOOOO#i don't entirely love the colour of peggy's overalls#plus there should really be more colour variation on her tools#but i was trying to keep the palette simple rip#and i didn't know what other colour to do for the overalls lmao#i did go v hard on her tho#i kinda forgot i was supposed to be doing rough sketches at that point and just went all out AKJSNVDFN#francine's outfit is unoriginal of course but it'd fit well in the setting#sanit's smock would ideally come down lower but i rly like the little manicure set on the belt and didn't wanna hide it lol#and then for alika i rly didn't want to change her fit too much#but i made it more clearly basketball themed#i'd like her to have some bracelets too but her sleeves would cover em so#anyway! i should have been sketching other things in the time it took to make these but i had fun!

just got new sandals and a really nice new dress for under fifty bucks!!!
#my old sandals are dingy white and cost like 12 bucks at Walmart a year and a half ago#and I was like... I should get some sturdier black ones that go with my clothes better#so I went to the store and lo and behold!! they were on sale!!!!#I also got a really nice smocked dress for summer bc I intend to start wearing stuff like that more#and a nice undershirt type thing for casual wear#I didn't even intend to get anything but possible shoes today akdjdkdbskfnakf#anyway it's the first really warm day of spring and I'm mourning winter but preparing for summer all the same#Lu rambles

#gala's ganders#it has to fit my parents' guidelines ofc :/ so when looking use the word “modest”#also NO MAXI DRESSES unless they sell them in petite sizes. i am 5'3" and a medium/sometimes a large#since petite is a hard thing to find for clothes midi dresses are the safest thing to look for.#nothing smocked or with buttons on the bodice please. i hate how it makes me feel#color doesn't matter too much just try to stick to a more fall/winter palette#oh and it can't be more than 80 usd
