this website is really good at twisting arguments around and obfuscating their original point and it always does so by centering personal feelings on the matter and they do this the most to people expressing grievances on how fanworks are engaged with

this extends a Great deal into what EOTWR covers and the fearmongering around it, but surprisingly that's not what brought this up this time (but it always remains relevant). im talking about people pushing back against artists talking about the "please reblog art" stuff.

because the argument is: if you like my work, then please reblog it because that is the best way to do bare minimum support for artists. especially if said artist does commissions and is struggling to reach an audience

but you've all twisted it into: it you see my art, you are obligated to reblog it otherwise you're horrible

the first is "if you like the work of someone, you should do the bare minimum to support them"

it is not "reblog my work now or i take away all fanworks"

ofc the usual modifying factors apply - like subjects in the art, the artist themselves - but it really feels like you understand what people are saying but trying to twist it into them being full of themselves and demanding

"if you like what i do and want to support it, please extend the bare minimum effort to show it" is not "you are obligated to reblog all art you see otherwise you hate artists"

this applies to writers as well. because fandom folks Love to consume fanfiction and treat it as a consumerist product, but you ignore the person behind the fic and expect them to keep producing for you while you do nothing to support them. then you wonder why your fav author stopped updating when you've been treating it as a product and all they've gotten was silence.

it's literally just, if you want to see something continue or see an artist do more of the thing you like, support them!! that's it!

it's not guilt tripping. you've just decided that it is and forced a reading upon it while arguing your meaning elsewhere.

Get yourself a boyfriend who likes to play-bite, that way you can hold him by his jaw afterwards if he's feeling a little too bitey like a bad dog. He knows you're not gonna hurt him, but god, it's cute to see him go wide-eyed in that moment.
