Okay, I just turned on MHA like six weeks ago, and just finished the manga yesterday. And while I have.....thoughts -.- about that ending, I also can't help think about:
Deku's Accidental Charm Offensive & Unintentional Rehabilitation of Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight's Image
Like:
On one of Deku's first patrols with Dynamight, they wrap up a villain with no injuries, no collateral, no casualties, and Dynamight lets rip his signature shout: "FLAWLESS VICTORY!"
The PR folks at his agency (and the internet) have told him that it's off-putting and unnerving
But Deku breaks out laughing behind him, Bakugo turns for the fist bump, aggressive, still pumped up from the adrenaline
Deku returns it automatically, smile bright, cheeks flushed, eyes nearly shut
The internet thinks it's adorable
And when:
They've responded to a request to back up heroes in an adjacent zone
Bakugo's been picking up more requests for backup now that Deku's in the field -- he knows the nerd gets a kick out of working in teams, and sometimes they run into their classmates, it makes Deku smile, whatever
There's a group of villains working in a team, and the biggest of them has a quirk it takes the the BakuBros way too long to figure out, but Deku, Chargebolt, and Red Riot manage to clear the extras from the field long enough for Bakugo to finally put the big bad down
It was a messy and exhausting fight, Bakugo's barely staying on his feet in the aftermath, but then he hears a shout from a nearby roof -- Deku:
"Great Explosion Murder God --"
"DYNAMIGHT" Kaminari and Kirishima join Deku's dumbass shout, and Bakugo is tossed up on the idiot's shoulders like an American frat boy.
They're so embarrassing.
The nearby newscaster filming from the police line laughs with the rest of the nearby civilians, says something about the atmosphere of joy as the villains have finally been subdued
But especially that time:
Some overexcitable brat almost got themselves killed on Deku and Bakugo's watch
There'd been some two-bit criminal, hardly enough of a threat to be called a villain, but Endeavor'd taught them to respond quickly, and they'd never been able to kick the muscle memory
The kid, no more than 8 or 9 had seen them passing by from her window and climbed out onto her fire escape, climbing up on the rails to try and record the interaction
Thank fuck the sensors on Deku's suit had picked up the anomaly of her sudden descent
Though they'd both rushed into action, Bakugo made the save snatching the kid from the air before she'd injured herself
When he got them both on solid ground, he'd been ready to light into her -- "Listen here, you --"
But Deku had been there, hand firm on Bakugo's elbow, "Kacchan, no!" Before hip-checking Bakugo out of the way and crouching down to get at eye level with the girl
"Hey, what my buddy, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight" (Deku always says it like Bakugo had dreamed it, like it's the name of someone trustworthy) "is trying to say is that your safety is way more important than a picture or video of us. Right?"
Here Deku had turned to look up at Bakugo. His midnight green eyes stern and expectant. Reminding Bakugo:
He'd made a promise to himself. If Deku gave becoming a hero a chance -- not just doing test work with the suit, not just moonlighting between class and grading papers, but really gave partnering with Bakugo his best effort -- Bakugo wouldn't let himself do anything to get in the way of Deku becoming the #1 hero. Anything.
"Yeah kid, it's not a flawless victory if you get hurt."
Deku beamed at him as if Bakugo just plucked the moon from the sky and personally gifted to him. Bakugo's cheeks had burned. But it didn't matter (he'd thought it wouldn't matter -- smartphones are the worst) Deku had already turned back to the girl.
"And if you want to come chat with us, we'll be at the Fall Festival at _____ Park around the corner in just a couple weeks! We'll be at the ______ Agency booth!"
Business kids had gotten the bright idea that heroes ought to be more accessible, feel more a part of the communities they helped protect.
A week later, Ashido sent a tweet to the Forever 1A group chat. A video of he and Deku with the kid. The caption: "Turns out Great Explosion Murder God just needed an anger interpreter."
The first comment under the tweet: "Anger interpreter? Do you mean husband?? Look at the blush!"
Bakugo is going to kill them!
But like, after 3 months of he and Deku partnering, they're neck and neck with Todoroki - the Big 3 back in competition.

Ghosts of Solid Air: Using AR to engage with contested monument debates | Rodney Harrison
Ghosts of Solid Air is an innovative augmented reality (AR) experience designed for smartphones and based in and around Trafalgar Square in London which launched in October 2023 as part of the BFI London Film Festival for Black History Month. Co-developed with a group of young people who identify as Londoners of colour, it responds to and engages with debates regarding colonial monuments and dominant historical narratives and how these might be contested and protested in the public sphere. In this talk, Rodney Harrison, one of two academic co-leads on the project (with Colin Sterling, UVA), which has been co-developed with the award-winning immersive design specialists We Are Anagram, reflects on the process of developing the app, and the potential for such immersive augmented reality experiences to transform engagements with contested heritages globally.

How to Develop Your Unique Style as a Filmmaker?
Tumblr media
Finding Your Voice: Developing Your Unique Style as a Filmmaker
Every filmmaker dreams of leaving their mark on the world. But in a sea of films vying for attention at film festivals and in the film industry, how do you make yours stand out? The answer lies in cultivating your unique style. This isn't just about fancy camerawork or trendy filters; it's about weaving your vision, themes, and storytelling techniques into a signature that screams "you."This journey isn't about blind innovation. Great style is built on a foundation of knowledge and exploration. Here's how you can embark on this path:
1. Deep Dive: Explore and Experiment
Immerse yourself in the world of films. Watch films from every genre and era, dissect their technical aspects, and analyze what resonates with you. Pay close attention to film directors whose work sparks a fire within. What recurring motifs do you see in their films? How do they use light, sound, and editing to convey emotions? But don't just be a passive observer. Grab your camera (even a smartphone will do!) and start experimenting. Make short films, documentaries, or even music videos. Play with different shooting styles, frame compositions, and editing techniques. Embrace the freedom to fail; every misstep is a stepping stone towards refining your voice.
2. Know Yourself: Themes and Stories
Your style isn't just about visuals; it's about the stories you tell and the themes that resonate with you. What are the issues that keep you up at night? What kind of message do you want to convey through your films? Think about the narratives that have moved you the most. Are you drawn to dark comedies that explore the human condition? Or perhaps you yearn to weave fantastical tales that transport viewers to another world?
3. Craft Your Visual Palette
Cinematography is the visual language of film. How you use light, color, and camera movement shapes the narrative and evokes emotions.  Do you find yourself drawn to stark black-and-white visuals or prefer the vibrancy of color palettes?
Experiment with lighting techniques and camera angles. Watch films known for their masterful cinematography and deconstruct how they achieve their signature look. This doesn't mean replicating them; rather, use them as inspiration to develop your visual vocabulary.
4. Sound Design: The Unsung Hero Sound design is often an overlooked element, but it has immense power to transport viewers and enhance the emotional impact of your film. Pay attention to how films use sound effects, music, and dialogue to create an atmosphere and tell a story. Do you prefer a soundscape rich with layered sound effects, or a minimalist approach that lets the silence speak volumes? Explore the power of music; does your style lean towards classical scores or contemporary beats?
5. Embrace Your Influences, But Don't Be a Copycat
Every filmmaker draws inspiration from those who came before them. But it's crucial to find a balance. While it's okay to admire the masters, don't simply mimic their style.
Instead, use their work as a springboard to launch yourself in your unique direction. Take what you love about their films and reinterpret it through your lens.
6. Refine Through Practice: Feedback is Your Friend
Developing your style is an ongoing process. The more films you make, the more you'll refine your voice. Don't be afraid to enter film festivals or share your work with trusted friends and mentors. Feedback, both positive and negative, can be invaluable in identifying your strengths and areas for improvement.
Remember, style isn't something you force; it's something that emerges organically as you hone your craft and explore your artistic vision. Embrace your individuality, experiment fearlessly, and eventually, your unique voice will shine through, captivating audiences and leaving a lasting impression on the world of cinema.

As Harrison Ford and Stallone Age, Where Are Their Replacements? – Variety
May 21, 2023 7:00am PT
‘We Used to Treat Movie Stars Like Gods’: Hollywood Grapples With Loss of Young Star Power
By Brent Lang, Tatiana Siegel
CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 18: Harrison Ford attends the "Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny" red carpet during the 76th annual Cannes film festival at Palais des Festivals on May 18, 2023 in Cannes, France. (Photo by Andreas Rentz/Getty Images)
The hottest package at this year’s Cannes Film Festival stars a 76-year old action star and is a reboot of a movie that first dazzled moviegoers in 1993. That’s a time, in case you forgot, before TikTok or smartphones, Facebook or Amazon, or any number of technological changes that have reshaped our world and the movie business along with them.
And yet, “Cliffhanger,” with Sylvester Stallone bravely summiting the mountain again, is seen as one of the most commercial scripts out there for buyers hoping to make an adventure film that can traverse borders and bring crowds. With a nod to the younger audiences who will be needed to turn up if the movie is going to replicate the original’s blockbuster status, the producers teased that casting is currently underway for a (presumably younger?) actor to share the screen with Sly. But who will that be?
“Over the last 10 years, we’ve done a really shitty job of creating a new generation of movie stars,” groused one sales agent.
And a look at some of the projects on offer or premiering at Cannes seems to bolster that argument. There’s “Breakout,” an action-thriller featuring 75-year old Arnold Schwarzenegger that will be directed by “Expendables 4” filmmaker Scott Waugh; “Lords of War” with 59-year old Nicolas Cage returning to a role as an amoral arms dealer that he first played nearly two decades ago; “That’s Amore,” a rom-com with a 69-year old John Travolta; and “The Rivals of Amziah King,” a crime story featuring a 53-year old Matthew McConaughey. In most cases, these actors have been famous, globally so, since the 1970s or ’80s (McConaughey, a relatively newbie, had to wait until 1996’s “A Time to Kill” to make his mark).
On Thursday night, the increasingly geriatric nature of the star system was on full display at the Cannes Film Festival as an 80-year old Harrison Ford walked the red carpet for the premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” for which he donned the fedora he first wore in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and is still well-preserved enough to unabashedly doff his top (“I’ve been blessed with this body,” he said sheepishly when asked about his shirtless scene at a press conference). Ford does get an assist from some of those technological breakthroughs, appearing 35 years younger in key scenes thanks to the magic of de-aging CGI...."
Wow! First off, they forgot about Tom Cruise, Mr. Deepfake, who's over 60. I don't think this is so much they've neglected to make new stars, it's that that lane is being choked by some of the very actors mentioned, who want to stay in the limelight but don't really make big box offices. They're just known. THEN there are powerful, male led groups pushing ONLY actors that appeal to them, not really audiences and especially not female audiences. THEN, there's the talented actors we all know now are being blocked from big budget pictures by the former group mentioned. Honestly, I think the groups running Hollywood actually DON'T want movie stars anymore because then they can mistreat and abuse everybody, equally.
Shout-out to whomever wrote this crap Variety article, with a whole two digs at Marvel, as though it were the real problem. I'm glad Johnny Depp cussed your asses out at Cannes.

#im sorry. the Blogging for Dummies book is RECENT???
At first I thought it was from 2010 because that's when "Blogging for Dummies, 3rd Edition" was published, but then I noticed this smartphone ad:
Tumblr media
Which looks really out-of-place for that period of time, so I realized I must have been looking at the wrong edition.
Then I looked at those trending tags up at the top of the screen. Computer, enhance image.
Tumblr media
I didn't watch house of the dragon but I knew it was a more recent show, so I could have used that to narrow it down. More useful however was the dual venice film festival tags, and the fact that one of them had "don't worry darling" (which I surmised to be the name of a film) underneath it, so now I just had to find out when that film was shown at the venice film festival. Sure enough, it premiered on September 5th, 2022.
My next step was going to the post archive page for @important-animal-images, filtering the posts by "Photo" and tagged as "#cats," and then flipping through to September 2022. Sure enough, the post was there!
And as one final mystery to solve, I looked up blogging for dummies by Amy Lupold Bair and found out that "Blogging All-In-One for Dummies, 3rd Edition" was published in April of 2023 and has this cover:
Tumblr media
Which matches perfectly with the cover of the book that @dakotaqueen had in her original post!

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/27/movies/the-seed-of-the-sacred-fig-review.html
The ubiquity of smartphones capable of filming anything, anywhere, has been a blessing and a curse to autocratic governments. On the one hand, protests and nascent revolutions can be filmed and broadcast, seen around the world, making the authoritarian’s attempt to quash dissent much more onerous.
But there’s a shadow side. Autocrats can compel obedience by means of overt force, but it’s much more canny — and more insidious — to turn everyone into individual agents of surveillance. Thinking your office might be wiretapped is bad enough, but knowing whatever you do might be filmed by your snitch neighbor, or sibling, is a powerful motivator to fall into line even in the private sphere. And those phones? They’re perfect little monitoring machines.
This possibility is a basic fact of 21st-century life, and Mohammad Rasoulof makes powerful use of it in his drama “The Seed of the Sacred Fig.” Titles before the film begins announce that it was made in secret, because “when there is no way, a way must be made.” In the past, Rasoulof’s films have resulted in travel bans and prison sentences in his native country of Iran, where he’s run afoul of strict censorship laws. When “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” was announced as a selection at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the Iranian government interrogated the cast and crew, subjecting them to travel bans. On May 8, less than a week before the start of the festival, Rasoulof was sentenced to flogging and eight years in prison. He and several of the film’s crew fled their country for Europe, and he remains in exile.
It’s not hard to see why the film seemed so dangerous. It puts a frame around inconvenient truths. The main drama concerns a family of four: Iman (Missagh Zareh), his wife, Najmeh (Soheila Golestani), and their two daughters, 21-year-old Rezvan (Mahsa Rostami) and her teenage sister, Sana (Setareh Maleki). Iman has recently been made an investigating judge in Tehran’s revolutionary court, a position of prestige, and Najmeh is overjoyed. Iman aspires to do his job justly.
But almost as soon as he arrives, he discovers that among his duties is a morally dubious one: rubber-stamping severe sentences as requested by the regime’s prosecutors, instead of doing the work of investigating them first. He’s also given a gun to protect himself and his family. Torn at first, he tells his wife about what he’s been asked to do. He and Najmeh reason that the country’s laws are God’s laws, and that it is not his moral responsibility to cross the prosecutors’ recommendations. Besides, what they wish for most is safety, stability and prosperity for their family. That is what the state provides.
Their daughters take a different view. They’re observing protests against the government through many windows — the ones in their bedroom, but also the ones into the world their phones provide. Often what they see on state TV conflicts sharply with the evidence of their own eyes. After Rezvan’s friend Sadaf (Niousha Akhshi) is shot in the face during a protest against compulsory hijab wearing, Iman tells his daughters they’re believing lies planted by the enemy. And then, his gun goes missing.
This story unfolds slowly and methodically, mostly contained in the family’s apartment — no wonder, given the film was shot in secret. But the small-scale family drama feels like a model of the full country in miniature. As the members of the family become more suspicious, they turn on one another. Home begins to feel like a prison of its own.
“The Seed of the Sacred Fig” — the title refers to a tree in which the young shoots choke out the older trunk — is a slow burn, sometimes a tad too slow. Occasionally languid, close-cropped shots that seem intended to produce visual poetry go on a bit too long.
But those sequences are a minor distraction, and the rest of the film’s methodical pace, its deliberate unfolding of the family’s growing rifts, feels almost classical, as if we’re watching an old legend fitted to a new age. Each of the main cast ably portrays internal conflict, both in the things they say and the things they don’t.
There’s a clear divide between the public and private realms in their world (each woman wears a hijab outside the house, a visual separation). The film dwells occasionally on the simple moments of home life: cooking dinner, sitting together in the living room, listening to music. So as the family’s phones become key players in the story, it’s clear what kind of intrusion they represent — the outside world entering the contained indoor one, and the possibility of the opposite occurring.
Rasoulof brilliantly takes this a step further. As his characters wrestle increasingly with the turmoil outside their doors, and the implications this might have for the order within, the film cuts away from this drama and takes us to another drama. Suddenly, what we’re seeing is real: vertically shot documentary footage of protests on the streets, presumably captured by citizens. Those protests followed the death of a woman named Mahsa Amini while she was in police custody in Tehran in September 2022. The footage involves authorities cracking down on protesters, brutal beatings and worse.
It’s an extraordinarily brave addition on Rasoulof’s part, and an effective way to break the film’s fourth wall. That’s footage you, too, could have seen on your phone. “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” asks us to enter a family’s story, but also to acknowledge that we are part of it. We’re extras in the background, no matter how far away we are. For Rasoulof, the world he’s created is far from theoretical. The consequences have been, too.
