Pairing: Cooper Howard/The Ghoul x Fem Reader [DARK FIC]

He knew youâd be a burden, he knew you couldnât survive in the wasteland, he was doing you a favor.
But he couldnât pull the fucking trigger...

Chapter 1 "The Savior"
Since the day you were born, there was something horribly wrong with you.
You had no immune system, your skin was paper-thin, you couldnât exercise without collapsing, and every nerve in your body was in constant pain. There was no use for you aside from being a measly archive keeper and book transcriber. Your father was a weak man, despite your disabilities and how costly it was for the rest of your Vault, he kept you alive, consumed by the idea of finally finding a cure for his little girl.
Every single moment since your birth, you had spent in this squeaky clean, insanity-inducing, paper-ridden medical room. Everything was plagued by the stench of medicine and spirit, disinfected down to the core. The floor and walls and even the ceiling were covered in a leather cushioned layer to prevent any injuries, sparkling white, of course. Who needed color when the stench of new paint might cause you a migraine?
In honesty, youâd give away half of your miserable life just to see color outside of the packaged book covers stacked neatly on the floor. You built a makeshift city out of them, following the pictures drawn in an old magazine youâd read ages ago and kept hidden under your pillow. With time, you learned how to make paper flowers out of some stray files that nobody would miss. You had to find some solace, something to keep you from crying your delicate heart out every night because this was no way for anyone to live.
You werenât just isolated from the world above, but from everything, only getting glimpses of the bright metal vault corridor and bustling dwellers whenever your father would open that wretched vacuum-sealed door to give you medicine. You knew peopleâs names and faces, everyone in your vault was memorized to the letter, but youâd never met them and probably never would.
You were never given your own Pip-boy, never assigned as a potential marriage candidate, and youâd never have children or any family once your parents passed away. A small part of you knew that you wouldnât even outlive them, frail and genetically inferior as you were. Youâd die within the next few years and youâd take the burden of your existence off the shoulders of everyone who worked tirelessly to find a solution to your illness.
You waited for that day with hope, dreaming of the end of the torture and solitude.
You had pleaded with your father that night with angry tears in your eyes to at least bring you coloring pencils or crayons or a radio to chat with the rest of the residents and make friends. But, as usual, he had refused gently while rocking you in his arms, cooing at you with a regretful tone and pain carving deep wrinkles in his features. Then heâd smiled at you, melting away your worry and frustration and misery, and heâd kissed your forehead tenderly. He still treated you like a little girl and to him, youâd always be one. He wiped your tears away and hope shone in his eyes, they looked exactly like yours, that was the only thing youâd taken from him. Everything else was a gift from your mother and you often looked in the mirror just to remember what she resembled.
Sheâd stopped visiting a long time ago, months, maybe even years, you werenât sure. The passing of time was a fickle matter when you were caged in a cushioned prison every single day.
Your father hummed softly, lulling you while he gently tucked you into the nursing bed and secured the oxygen mask over your mouth. He was your angel, your only salvation, your only source of conversation and comfort and interaction and love. He adjusted the catheter back into your vein before fluffing up your pillow.
âThis might be it, Sweetheart.â he whispered while watching you doze off slowly, his gaze held such affection for you. He placed a new IV bag to drain into your arm, one youâd not seen before, but you trusted him. This was nothing new. He came up with a new medicine recipe every month, without fail. âThis might just be the cure. Youâll tell me how you feel tomorrow.â
You can only sigh and give your best smile, unable to share his enthusiasm after so many failed attempts. He rubbed a thumb over your sickly-colored cheek, his skin like sandpaper against yours, worn and calloused from spending a lifetime in the vaultâs field.
âHave some faith in your old man.â
âI do, dadâŠIâm just so tired of thisâŠâyou bite into your tongue to keep more tears from spilling, and your bottom lip trembles despite your best efforts to tame it. Watching his face falter breaks your heart and you suck it up, push your tantrum down and pout instead. âAnd youâre not old.â
He laughs at your whiney remark, the first laugh heâd had in a long time, and he slicks back your hair, taking note that he needed to trim it soon before it got too long. Maybe when he had the energy, heâd sit down for more than a few minutes and braid it like he used to when you were just a child.
âI know you are, Baby girl, I know.â he shushes you with the utmost care and stands. âJust a little longer and youâll be strong enough to help your pop pick out the tatoes. Get your pretty hands all dirty and then have a big plate of spam for a job well done.â he gazed at you, masking his sorrow and bitterness at the cruelty life had forced upon you. His hand hovered over the lamp switch and he glanced one last time at the brand-new IV bag slowly emptying in your bloodstream. âNight, Sweetheart. Love you.â
Too stricken with grief over your miserable lifestyle, you didnât return his tender words, hoping he understood and knew that you loved him just as much if not more. When the lights went out, your eyelids closed, squeezing out a few lonely tears in the darkness before you begrudgingly drifted off to sleep. A dreamless slumber when you were gently rocked through the foggy confines of your subconsciousness.
Your one wish was to see the world outside, uncaring if it were a wasteland or a paradise, ignorant of the dangers and naĂŻve towards the people who potentially lived up there. You just wanted to be free, even if it would cost you your life, you wanted to see the sky just once, wanted to prove to yourself that no, it looked better than any picture your father had shown you. You wanted to swim in the ocean and see fishes and see a whale, a creature so big it was unfathomable to imagine, you wanted to taste the salty sea water and become sick and just be happy to be alive for once. You wanted to feel the grass beneath your feet, to touch snow and dance in the rain until you slipped and fell in a puddle only to splash in it because youâd never seen or felt any nature.
You just wanted to liveâŠ
The hours ticked by in a hazy blur as you lay lifelessly on your bed. Your room was partly sound-proof, you heard nothing of the ruckus slowly brewing beyond your medicinal prison. Sleepy soundly, you didnât hear the slaughter, the begging and pleading voice on the brink of crying before the sickening cracks of broken bones. You didnât hear the crazed ramblings of the raiders stalking your fellow vault dwellers like it was a game of cat and mouse. Your vault was slowly succumbing to chaos and rampage and it was only when the electricity went out and your door unlatched that you were startled awake.
You bolt up with wide eyes and in a panic, gaze averting to the door and heart skipping a beat when you realize itâs open. With a small grunt and a relieved inhale once the oxygen mask is ripped from your face and tossed on your pillow, you scramble to stand. The IV is disconnected from your arm with an expert touch, replaced by a cotton ball to obscure any heavy bleeding from the open puncture wound. Your bare feet shuffle over the soft floor, slippery against the white leather because youâd unknowingly started to sweat from anticipation.
Was this just another cruel dream?
You walked to the exit with timid footsteps before opening the door wide enough to stick your head out. An incessant voice kept repeating how disappointed your father would be if he saw you sticking your nose out and potentially catching an infection from the unsterile air. That voice was dismissed promptly, this was your first chance at seeing anything beyond the medical room and youâd rather die than miss it.
Had the power gone out? But that was impossible. The power never went out, there had always been a steady flow of electricity for as long as you could remember.
The lights flickered, most were broken, letting the eerie darkness overwhelm all corridors except for one.
âHello?â you call out hesitantly, shaky voice hoarse with sleep and anxiety both. Looking around, you couldnât see much, there wasnât a soul in sight and the silence was deafening. âDad?â
Nothing. Nothing and no one.
A hand clutched at the door to support your buckling knees and you breathed deeply, encouraging yourself to be brave, that this was your chance. After dutifully gnawing on the inside of your cheek you stepped forth into the crossroads of corridors, letting go of the door and leaving everything familiar and safe behind. Your head whirled so much your neck popped multiple times as you frantically looked around in the scarce light and as terrifying as all of this was, it was also heaven unknown. You had never seen so many things â plant pots, plants, all bright green and juicy, youâd stuck your nail in a particular one only to feel a strange gooey discharge on your finger. It was a succulent, youâd read about those somewhere, very sturdy indeed, very pretty, but had no smell. You liked them already.
The further you went, the more a nagging thought kept creeping up your spine like a chill.
Where was everybody?
You kept looking, following the corridor and under the guidance of blinking lamps. You knew the Vault like the back of your hand after spending countless hours studying its diagrams, having nothing better to do. Now you were experiencing it in person. No longer needing to strain your imagination to picture every nook and cranny, you could see it with your own eyes. The floor was so cold under your feet, but you didnât care, too high on adrenaline and pure joy to notice such a small inconvenience. A hand glided absentmindedly against the wall, tracing over pipes and posters and glass windows until you prickled your finger on a jagged edge and winced away.
You stuck the winger in your mouth with a pained scowl and glared up, searching for the source of your misfortune.
You froze.
Blood, everywhere, oozing down the wide hole in the window and silently gushing out of the disemboweled corpse of a human being, still warm. And even through the liters of blood and the sickening feeling of nausea that had your eyes dart to the floor, you immediately noticed the dark blue suit they were wearing. A dead vault dweller tossed through the window so hard theyâd broken through and gotten impaled on the glass.
A vault dweller.
DeadâŠ
DEAD!!!
You stumbled back and wretched, stuffing your mouth in the crook of your elbow and sputtering saliva as your stomach churned with bile. You bumped into a metal cabinet in your stupor, scraping for purchase as your legs lost all function, knocking over a clock and a radio that came to life as soon as it hit the floor. The sound echoed through the Vault, like a haunting melody to the arrival of a new victim, lured out and ready for slaughter. You.
Horror. A massacre, as the light flickered your eyes feasted on more marred flesh and ripped skin and so much blood. Crimson splatter and trails of handprints were strewn over the walls, the echoes of an dire struggle which ended in vein, trails of violence were etched into the hallway. You couldnât hold it in anymore, you threw up, clutching at your stomach as you let out the traumatizing sight the only way your body knew how. Doubled over and twitching as the shock was replaced by such a raw feeling that you nearly lost your mind.
Corpses littered the floor beyond, caked in their own entrails, skulls bashed in, unrecognizable and still andâŠ
âHi there, Princess.â
A chill went up your spine as you realized that the frilly white dress you wore wasnât enough to keep you warm beyond your room. Your skin littered with goosebumps, thin hairs standing up in fear as you stiffly craned your neck and looked back to the other end of the corridor. What little color was left in your face dissipated at the sight.
A man, disfigured and disgusting, with wild hair and wilder eyes and a grin that shook you to the bone stood there. He was shirtless, showing off a large hairy belly and covered in stick-poke tattoos, one of his legs was replaced by what you made out was a metal stick of sorts. He was three times your sizeâŠand he looked at you with such perverse intent that you nearly screamed. A vile creature, not even human anymore.
âDonât be scared, Pretty.â he leered, chapped lips and rotting teeth and a foul blackened tongue, and raised a large palm in front of him to halt you from moving. âItâs okayâŠCome here. Come to me.â
Instinct took over and you automatically stepped back, not daring to take your eyes off him.
âAh, donât do that now.â he warned sweetly and slowly began walking towards you, creeping closer every time the lights flickered off. âYouâll just make this harder for you, yeah? Come to Eddie, Sweetheart. Iâll take care of you.â
Everything about him screamed evil. He looked deranged and capable of things youâd never even begin to imagine.
A surface dweller. A survivor. A killer. A monster.
The moment his boot sunk in a pool of blood and squeaked against the floor realization hit you like a speeding truck. The grim expression should have been his sign to catch you, but you were already leaping over corpses with a blood-curdling screech. Your mind raced as you tried to orientate yourself through the corridors, bolting over shattered glass and spoiled food and so many dead bodies.
You needed to get out. Leave. Escape.
OUT!
His hollars bellowed behind you, alerting the rest of his friends because of course there were more and now they were aware of you and hunting you down like a deer in the forest. You let the tears run down your cheeks, forced the questions of your parentsâ whereabouts and health because you already knew the answers, but you let them sink youâd end up like them or worse.
A horde of footsteps nipped at your bare heels and you sprinted and begged your weak little legs to go faster. Sucking in air as adrenaline pumped through your veins like poison, you jumped and ducked and whirled and assured yourself that you had the upper hand here, you knew the vault better than them. You stood a chance, youâd survive.
When the elevator came into view after you rounded a corner you nearly cried out in delirium. A roar nearly deafened you and you flinched, but your pace only increased as you pleaded and struggled not to trip over your feet. They were desperate, clawing at the air to try and reach you before it was too late. Your lungs burned with strain, your muscles felt like theyâd tear any moment, but you kept pushing, high on horror and anger and a newfound zest for self-preservation
Salvation. Your only chance to live.
Your shoulder screamed in pain when you slammed against the metal walls of the elevator and thrusted your fist against the button vigorously.
âCome on. Come on. COME ON!â
âGet back here you little whore!â
âPlease!â you wailed, screaming and stumbling back when a rusty axe collided with the shutting doors and made sparks fly with an ear-piercing screech. A hand flew up to cover your squinted eyes, sneering and sobbing as the raiders banged on the outside of the elevator and shot conniving curses at your crumbling form. You were slammed down on your arse by gravity as the elevator finally moved, taking you away from certain death as a slew of grim promises were expelled at you from below.
Theyâd find you, rip you apart, and make you wish youâd just died like the rest of your pathetic vault dwellers. You balled your eyes out, choking on spit and tears and gulping down air as your body shook violently. Clutching at your face, you stared down at your bloody feet with wide, unblinking eyes.
What was this nightmareâŠ
When the elevator came to a halt and the doors reopened you barely managed to stand, the numbness in your limbs proving too much to handle and your upset stomach only contributing. But you had to keep moving, you had to run.
âDaddyâŠâ
With ugly sobs and meek noises of strain and discomfort and utter distaste for your cruel fate, you tumbled towards the ajar vault entrance. Pressing down the button timidly before taking the discarded Pip-boy from the severed hand, you lock your tormentors into their grave and hurriedly tread towards the slowly closing vault exit.
The sun nearly blinds you and the hot desert sun knocks you to your knees as your hands sink to the wrists in sand. You gasp, squeezing your eyes shut before blinking rapidly and shielding your sensitive pupils from the blaring light.
ItâsâŠbarren.
A desert, stretching as far as your sight could reach, heated enough for the air to wiggle and dance in the distance, a decrepit city can be seen nestled not too far. A plethora of buildings crumbled to their bases hide away the sealed entrance to your vault, bones are scattered through the coarse sand, human shapes frozen in time, hinting towards a previous era of life on Earth, an era youâd only read about. Again, there wasnât a soul around no matter how many times you circled your vision.
A wasteland. Painted yellow and orange and contrasting so beautifully with the clear blue sky.
You wanted to marvel and swoon and you would have given any other circumstance, but now, after everything youâd seen, after your mind had been so brutally defiled with images of slaughter, you were incapable. You stood, resisting the harsh breeze and angry sun, clad in nothing but a Pip-boy and a thin summer dress that was everything but white.
You had to walk, seek help, doâŠsomething. Anything.
And so you did. Trudging through the sea of sand and stepping hastily as the heat beneath your delicate feet nipped uncomfortably at your skin. Sweat clung to you like a protective layer, washing away any trace of the sensitive lavender shampoo you had used the previous night. Strands of hair clung to your flushed face as you fought a silent and unfair battle against the burning sunrays, one step at a time, with the wind as your only companion. Your nostrils struggled to breathe in enough air, but you didnât dare open your mouth despite the temptation, fearing dehydration and death as it loomed over you like a shadow.
You walked for what felt like miles, accompanied by your thoughts and nothing else, until the Vault was hidden behind the golden dunes and your feet felt raw. The city was so close now, yet you were so tired, sucked dry by a heat youâd never experienced before, if it hadnât been for your Pip-boy crackling to life you would have collapsed, too burdened and weak to continue.
You raised your wrist and looked down and were met by a familiar meter.
Radiation.
Something around you was radioactive enough for the device to pick up easily, but there was nothing but waves of yellow hell and you doubted the ground itself was emitting it. Then you heard it. That strange, high-pitched chirping, an alien sound that made your skin crawl and scraped at the back of your head tauntingly.
A scream loud enough to shatter glass ripped through your throat as a sharp sting pierced your ankle. You hit the soft sand with a whimper and rushed to turn on your back before kicking blindly at your assaultant. An ambush from below. Blood trickled from the gash, painting your skin a deep ruby red and spilling over the ground, luring out your predators like moths to a flame.
Insects, roaches too big to be real and too much for your fickle mind to comprehend crawled out of the sand. Youâd fallen right into their trap, an unsuspecting victim, a banquet theyâd probably not seen since theyâd hatched.
Your heart pounded frantically, pulse thumping in the side of your neck as you flailed and screeched, chucking sand at them as they circled you. You wanted to run, every cell in your body fought for you to stand, but you couldnât, you had no fight left. Youâd die here, alone in this decrepit desert and eaten by giant cockroaches and this was going to be the story of your life. You sobbed so pitifully, so angry and bitter and bratty that after everything, this was to be your end. The world spun painfully fast and you wanted to vomit, but your stomach was empty and you only gagged.
With one last scream, you curled in a ball, covering your head with your arms and your legs protecting your belly, as one of the insects lunged forward.
When the gunshot rang in your ears you froze in place and time stopped. The roach flew back, slimy green entrails covering your form like a canvas. The other two hissed and you revolted at the noise, but they were shot a second later, blown to bits, dainty skittish legs twitching as the last few beats of life escaped them. The shadow of your savior dwarfed you completely, giving you respite from the cruel sun.
You roll over and sit up on your knees within a blink only to be met with the barrel of a gun too ratchet and rusted to belong to anyone but a wastelander. You recoil and blink through tear-heavy lashes before roughly adjusting your dress to try and cover your bare thighs from what you presumed was another man. The tip of the gun slid under your chin and guided your eyes up to feast upon your hero. You gulped and whimpered.
He was grotesque, like a man skinned alive and somehow survived, melted skin deformed his features and youâd bet your dinner there wasnât a strand of hair under that worn cowboy hat. He had no nose, no eyebrows or even lashes, not a spec of hair. He grinned something awful down at you, looking at you like you were a fresh piece of meat, a delicacy among a table covered with rotten food. His stance was wide, torn dark cloth swaying dangerously in the breeze, he seemed almost aetherial in his own twisted and rugged way. You mewled softly as he turned your head from side to side with his gun, gently, mockingly, drinking you in from every angle as if youâd disappear if he so much as blinked.
Your hands clutched at the edge of your dress when he finally spoke and his voice made you inhale sharply and clench your jaw in anticipation.
âWellâŠArenât you a pretty little thingâŠâ

â nightmares
pairing: jessie fleming x reader, jessie fleming x child {piperâs world}
synopsis: piper has a nightmare and calls out for jessie
warnings: mentions of nightmares, crying
a/n: combined 2 anons for this! iâm also trying new things w my fics to match my current theme hehe
ৠâ§âË âïž â
Ë àŒ àłâïœĄË
jessie wakes up in the middle of the night shivering. she rolls over and realises youâve managed to steal her side of the blanket, rolling her eyes as she pulls the cocoon youâve made for yourself apart. she doesnât know what time it is and canât be bothered to check once she buries herself back underneath the warm covers that smell like you.
she pulls them up over her nose and then blindly searches for you in the dark, putting her arm around your waist and burying her face in the dip where your neck curves into your back. the sound of your heartbeat and breathing is enough to almost lull her to sleep until she hears a small voice calling out her name.
âjessieâ itâs kind of quiet and a little distant so she thinks sheâs dreaming and ignores it until she hears it again, louder and more distressed this time.
the canadian lifts her head off the pillow to make sure sheâs not just hearing things, her whole body going rigid next to you.
âjessieâ the little voice calls out again, just as loud as before but more drawn out and desperate.
jessie recognises piperâs voice and tosses the covers off herself, making sure not to wake you as she slides out of bed and tip toes down the hall.
warm, muted light slightly flickers and dims from inside piperâs room as she approaches. she pushes open the cracked door to see a very distressed looking little girl sitting up in bed and clinging to her ninja turtle donatello plush toy.
âpip? what are you doing upâ she whispers, quietly stepping into the room and pushing the door slightly closed behind her
piper sniffles and reaches her arms up to signal she wants to be held. jessie obliges and cradles her protectively as piper folds into herself on the footballerâs chest. she continues to sniffle as jessie begins to rock her ever so slightly in hopes of putting her back to sleep. sheâs a little stunned in her half-awake state, not knowing exactly what do to. itâs the first time piper has actively sought jessie out for comfort without a single mention of you.
usually when piper awakes though the night she comes into your bedroom and wiggles her way in between you and jessie. other times sheâs stood at your side of the bed and stared at you until you woke up in fright before climbing over you and tucking herself in. a few times sheâs had to tug on jessieâs arm to be put in the big bed because you sleep like a rock, but thereâs never been anything like this.
âhad a bad dreamâ piper whispers into the dark, the only light coming from a string of star lights that are quickly dying. jessie makes a mental note to put new batteries in them tomorrow. âwas really scary. you were playing fooâball then a big monster with red eyes started chasing you but you didnât see him and he swallowed you up!â she continues on, shifting slightly in jessieâs hold before sniffling again. âno one else see him! i tried to get mummy but couldnâ find her. no one to helpâ
jessie hums and sits down on piperâs bed as she begins to rub circles with her thumb on her back âit wasnât real pip, iâm right hereâ she assures âwhy didnât you come get me or mummy?â
âsaw the monsterâs eyes anâ thought he was going to get meâ
âwhat do you mean?â jessie asks puzzled.
piper pulls herself off jessieâs chest, keeping one of her hands bunched in her hoodie as she turns and points out her door âthereâ she says before turning back to face jessie âheâs out thereâ
piperâs bottom lip quivers and tears begin to run down her chubby cheeks. jess wipes her tears with one hand whilst the other holds the girl tighter âsweetheart thereâs no monster i promiseâ
âb-but his eyes!â
jessieâs brows furrow. she wants nothing more than to go out into the living room and show piper that thereâs no monster thatâs going to gobble her up, but she knows that she needs to get piper back to sleep. instead, she lays down on the single bed and keeps piper cradled to her chest before pulling the covers up over the two of them. realistically she shouldnât be sleeping in a childâs bed the night before a game at the risk of waking up sore, but jessie has a feeling that if she attempts to take piper out of her room itâs only going to stress her out more.
she lays the two of them under the canopy hung a over piperâs bed âthe monsterâŠâ piper trails off
âweâre safe i promiseâ jessie whispers.
the little girls hand lets go of jessieâs jumper and lays flat over her heart, her little fingers spread out and tapping aimlessly âhe wonât eat you?â
âheâs not gonna eat meâ
seemingly satisfied with the answer she gets, piper goes boneless on top of the midfielder. her arms are tucked underneath her and her legs slightly fall around jessieâs waist, her donatello still held tightly in one hand. she nestles her head in the crook of jessieâs neck and soaks in her still sleep warm skin, the slight smell on you that somehow permanently lingers on jessie only providing more comfort to the three year old.
the feel of jessieâs chest rising and falling slowly puts her to sleep, the feel of the footballerâs body under her bringing her peace.
ââ
when you awake the next morning itâs to cold sheets and a blaring alarm. you expect jessie to be curled up against your back like she is most mornings but all youâre left with is an empty bed. you roll over to turn off your first alarm and realise the apartment is silent. no shower running, no tv going, no coffee machine being used. just you.
whatâs even more puzzling is the fact that you also canât hear piper. if jessie wakes up first piper isnât far behind, the pair of them usually up talking or giggling loud enough for you to hear it through your closed bedroom door. you swing your legs over the side of the bed and put your slippers on before making your way out to the kitchen and living room.
jessieâs spare pair of running shoes are still on the shoe rack by the door so you know sheâs not gone for a run and her keys are still sitting on the counter along with her wallet.
furrowing your brows, you turn back and go towards piperâs room. pushing the door open slightly youâre met with piper laying on jessieâs chest, the two of them tucked under the covers snugly as they continue to sleep peacefully.
you lean on the door frame and take in the scene in front of you. jessieâs got an arm raised above her head whilst the other is wrapped around piper over the covers, and your little girl is tucked into the crook of her neck. donatello has been discarded through the night and now finds himself next to jessieâs head on his shell with one leg poking your girlfriend in the cheek.
you smile and push yourself off the door frame before cracking piperâs door again and turning to head to the kitchen, preparing a coffee you know jessieâs gonna need from sleeping in that bed.

Chapter Nine: Wouldn't It Be Nice
Ch 1 - Ch 2 - Ch 3 - Ch 4 - Ch 5 - Ch 6 - Ch 7 - Ch 8 - Ch 9 - Ch 10 - More Coming Soon
Pairing: Cooper Howard/The Ghoul x Fem!Reader Summary: Tensions run high after the previous night's kiss and The Ghoul reveals a small part of his past. Tags: Slow burn (and I mean SLOWWW), angst, eventually more smut, language, canon-typical violence, chem/alcohol use, more tags will be added Posted on AO3: Smoothie and The Ghoul Word Count: 1.7k
The journey to the old associate is a lengthy one, likely spanning a few days at the very least. The landscape is mostly desolate, with sand dunes engulfing the remnants of old-world buildings. The memory of the previous night's kiss lingers heavily in your mind, leaving you curious about The Ghoul's thoughts on the matter. You resist the urge to ask. Instead you decide to keep your distance from him and look at your pip-boy to distract yourself. Focusing on the device, you navigate through its functions until you locate the radio feature, tuning in to some classic tunes from the past that fill the air.
As the familiar lyrics of âOrange Colored Skyïżœïżœïżœ by Nat King Cole fill the air, you find yourself lost in the nostalgic melody. The rhythmic beat of the song creates a sense of comfort amidst the desolation. The radio crackles and the signal fades momentarily, but you manage to catch the few lines of the song before it returns to full clarity.
Slowing his stride, The Ghoul positions himself next to you. You sneak a glance in his direction, but his expression remains an enigma, offering no insight into his thoughts. However, he begins to hum along with the tune, his voice blending with yours in a harmonious duet. You can't help but wonder what would it be like to sway to the music in his arms. A faint smile tugs at your lips at the thought.
The two of you continue like this for some time, singing softly to the old tunes that fill the air. After a while, he extends a piece of jerky from his bag to you. Gratefully, you accept and savor a big bite. The flavor is unfamiliar, yet surprisingly delicious.
"What type of jerky is this?" you ask.
"Ass jerky.â
"Alright," you giggle, "The ass of what? I don't think I've had this kind before."
"Ghoul," he states plainly.
You burst out laughing at what you assume is a joke, only to realize it's not when he stares back at you blankly, munching on his own piece of jerky.
"...What."
Staring at The Ghoul in disbelief, the realization hits you like a ton of bricks. His stoic expression adds to the surreal nature of the moment, and as the truth sinks in, a wave of nausea washes over you. You start gagging uncontrollably, unable to contain your revulsion at the thought of consuming human flesh. His reaction surprises you as he bursts into laughter at your discomfort, his amusement contrasting sharply with your horror.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?!" you shout, your voice filled with disgust as you dry heave. "Oh my god. It was that dead ghoul I came across, wasn't it?"
"Soundin' like that vaultie," The Ghoul chuckles.
"Not all us vault dwellers come out that naive," you mutter quietly, the words barely audible to him.
"What'd you say?" he questions, eyeing you suspiciously.
"Hm? Nothing," you quickly reply, trying to brush off the tension. The Ghoul's skeptical gaze lingers on you, and without a second thought, you fling the remaining jerky at his face. The dried meat slaps against his cheek with a thud, slowly sliding down his face and plopping onto the dusty ground. The silence that follows is heavy as âWouldnât It Be Niceâ by The Beach Boys suddenly starts blaring from your pip-boy.
âȘ Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong? âȘ
"Pick it up," he finally breaks the silence.
You raise an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"
"You heard me, Smoothie," he says, taking a step closer to you. "We ain't wastinâ good jerky just because you're too dainty. Pick⊠it⊠up."
Your eyes meet his in a fierce stare, both of you mirroring the intensity. Closing the distance between you, you stand almost nose to nose. As you gaze up at him, you notice the anger in his eyes, but you also catch a glimpse of Cooper Howard peeking through.
âȘ After having spent the day together, hold each other close the whole night through âȘ
"If you want to watch me bend over that badly, all you have to do is ask," you quip, a playful glint in your eye.
"Two choices, sweetheart,â The Ghoul's voice takes on a dark and gravelly tone. "Either you pick it up like a good girl, or I make you pick it up - and I won't be gentle."
Good girl. You muster all your strength to resist cracking under those words, a smug grin spreading across his face. In that moment, you can't help but wonder if he's being playful or if this is just his usual, asshole self shining through. After all, he has no shame when it comes to this shit.
âȘ I wish that every kiss was never-ending âȘ
Your mind races for a witty response, the lyrics of the song only adding to the awkward tension between you. His eyes bore into yours, a mix of challenge and arrogance that makes your skin crawl. With a defiant tilt of your chin, you sarcastically remark, "You better be prepared to catch me when I swoon from your overwhelming charm."
The Ghoul's smirk widens, a flash of malice glinting in his eyes as he replies, "Oh sweetie, I don't catch⊠I watch you fall.â
âȘ You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it âȘ
As you crouch down to retrieve the jerky, a mix of resentment and anger swirls inside you. The act of picking up the tainted piece of meat feels like a bitter concession, a silent acknowledgment of the power play he has initiated. Standing back up, you hold out the jerky towards him, your gaze hardened with a mix of defiance and humiliation.
The Ghoul plucks the jerky from your hand with a satisfied smirk, relishing the control he holds over the situation. The tension between you crackles with unspoken words and unspoken desires, each gesture and exchange charged with a potent mix of attraction and power dynamics.
The tension between you lingers like a heavy fog as you trudge forward in uncomfortable silence, the music from your pip-boy serving as a strange soundtrack to the awkwardness that envelops you. With the sun sinking towards the horizon, long shadows stretching across the landscape, a sense of unease settles in your chest like a heavy weight.
As darkness descends, a canopy of stars twinkling overhead, The Ghoul's voice breaks the silence, his tone devoid of the earlier hostility. "We'll set camp here for the night. Keep watch while I get a fire going," he instructs, his words cutting through like a knife. You nod stiffly, grateful for the chance to have some space between you.
Sitting by the crackling fire, you wrap your arms around your knees, staring into the flames. The Ghoul settles across from you, his eyes fixed on the fire as well. After a moment of comfortable silence, you finally speak, your voice soft in the night air. "What did you mean the other day when you said you remembered Moldaver differently?"
His gaze shifts from the fire to meet yours, taking a moment to consider your question before answering, âI knew her as Miss Williams.â
âMiss Williams?â Curiosity fills you.
âI met her. Before the war,â he continues, âWhich makes me curious as to how sheâs still around.â
You ponder for a moment, lost in thought. "Seems like prewar folks are more common than I thought..."
"Oh yeah?" The Ghoul laughs. "You know a lot of 'em or somethinâ?"
You chuckle softly at his question. "No, no," you reply, shaking your head slightly. "I just didn't think many people made it this far - ghoul or otherwise. Say... What's something you miss from before the Great War?"
âMy daughter.â He answers immediately. His voice is soft, almost a whisper, filled with sadness and longing. The firelight dances across his face, casting shadows that seem to echo the weight of his words. Youâre surprised heâs shared something so personal - he had a daughter?
"What is her name?" You ask gently, making sure to refer to her in the present tense, not wanting to add to the sting of her possible death.
He hesitates, his demeanor softening slightly as he considers your question. After a moment, he quietly responds, "Janey."
You rise from your spot and walk over to him, settling down next to him by the crackling fire. "Is that who Sorrel was referring to? Who you've been looking for?" you ask, your voice filled with genuine curiosity.
"Yes," he sighs, his voice heavy with weariness. Despite his usual guarded nature, there is a sense of trust that begins to form between you. "I've been lookin' for over 200 years and ain't found shit. No leads. Until now.â
"Moldaver," you whisper, your voice barely above a breath. "Do you think she knows something? Being prewar and all?"
He locks eyes with you, a subtle look of uncertainty in his eyes. "Thats what I aim to find out, Smoothie.â
"Well shit," you say, taking a deep breath before gently placing your hand on top of his. "We'll find your daughter. We'll find Janey, no matter what it takes."
He looks at you with soft eyes, as if no one ever truly wants to help him. Maybe it makes him question your intentions, wondering if you might be deceitful. After all, he knows nothing about you or your past. Will you ever tell him who you really are? Why do you even care so much about him? He flinches slightly at your touch and swats your hand away, a reflex you assume is born of decades upon decades of betrayal and disappointment.
âSorry,â you mumble as you head back to your spot across from him. âIâm serious though. I will help you find her.â
The Ghoul grimaces and turns his back to you, his posture defensive and closed off. You sense a deep well of pain and longing within him, a father's desperate hope to be reunited with his daughter. Sitting in silence, you give him the space he seems to need to process your offer of help. After a few moments, he finally speaks, his voice rough with emotion.
"I appreciate the offer," he begins. "But this is somethin' I must do alone."
"We'll see about that," you respond, a steely determination in your voice. He gives you a look of annoyance, but you refuse to let him face this alone. This is no longer just a bounty to collect; it is so much more.

Mingi smiles in satisfaction as he just finished to cook galbijjim for the dinner. His heart is beating fast due to nerves while waiting for you to come home from work. Please, I hope you like my cooking, he whispers to himself. Lately Mingi has noticed that you have no appetite, so he's just trying his best to get you back to eating three meals a day and staying hydrated! Your busy work, lack of exercise, and your behavior that keeps skipping your meals made Mingi worried until he decided to cook dinner for you.
Mingi's eyes blink a few times as he heard the passcode being entered into the smartlock of your apartment door. His body stands rigid, but his lips curve a smile. He's hoping that you would praise him by making you dinner. Well, this big baby of yours always wants to be praised by you, he feels so loved when you say words of encouragement to him, as if to show how much you love him.
Pip!
"Baby!" Mingi runs into your hug as the door opened, smelling the scent of your perfume from the blouse you're wearing. His hands linger around your waist, and his actions make you smile in an instant. Your boyfriend is so lovely for being clingy like this.
"I'm home, baby. How was your day?" You ask softly and then give him a peck on the cheek. Mingi buries his face in the crook of your neck, giving a small bite out of his excitement for you.
"No, I should be the one asking that. How was your day, baby? And did you have dinner?"
Oh, please. Mingi hopes you haven't eaten yet. Please tell me you haven't eaten with your co-workers-
"Ah, I haven't eaten yet. My assignment got me nervous like I'm on a payment due."
Ah, thank goodness. Mingi smiles at your reply which always has a touch of humor in it. The you Mingi knows is used to being easy going, you don't take your work so seriously that it makes you stressed and sick. You're indeed busy and force yourself to do all the assignments, but you also limited your brain from thinking too much, you don't want to get sick. You don't want to give a hard time to Mingi, you understand your boyfriend is also busy and has a job besides devoting his attention to you.
"I made you dinner, baby. Welcome to Mingi's kitchen!" Mingi smiles cheerfully, his face beaming. Oh, look how beautiful that smile is! You bet even a bouquet of flowers can't beat its beauty.
"Let's go, have a dinner with me," Mingi's tone of voice is filled with excitement as he leads you to the dining table.
"Woah! ! You made this for me?" You stare at the dining table with two plates of galbijjim that are still warm from having just been made. You are once again amazed by Mingi's ability.
"Seriously Mingi, what can't you do?"
Mingi laughs amusedly, he rubs your back gently. "Thank you for saying that, baby. You just made my heart flutter, for real."
"Oh, Mingi." you chuckle along with him. Then you turn to face him with that sweet smile of yours, "Thank you for always taking care of me, Mingi. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Baby..." Mingi's eyes turned teary, both moved and saddened. "I don't know what I'd do without you by my side either. We support each other, okay? I'll always be by your side if you need me."
The atmosphere suddenly becomes emotional, and you move closer to embrace Mingi's body. Finally. You feel at home every time you're in his arms. Truly, Mingi's embrace feels very safe and comfortable as if you can be protected from all kinds of dangers in this world.
Mingi rests his chin on top of your head, lulling you softly to soothe you while whispering his feelings toward you, such as "I do really love you, tiny." he says. "So come on, eat with me. You're already smaller than me, so you should eat more."
"Excuse me?!" you chortle, punching his chest playfully. "Stop saying that, don't babying me. You're the baby here."
"I'm not a baby when I can make one," Mingi replies vulgarly, but his face looks overly relaxed. He just released that innocent laugh of him when you glare at him.
"That mouth of yours is filthy, Song."
Mingi doesn't reply again, but you can see his lips form a smile as he pulls out a chair for you to sit on. "Please take a seat, my dear."
But you shake your head. Mingi's expression changes, he's confused. "You don't want to eat my cooking?" oh really, his tone sounds so sad and hurting, you feel guilty. But you have something else in your mind, though.
"Mingi, you're the one I want right now."
He tilts his head to the side, unsure of what you've said to him. "Huh? What was that supposed to mean?"
"It means i want to eat you, baby."
Mingi instantly swallows hard his saliva down his throat. His ears turned red, but his expression changes again quickly, looking annoyed this time. "I made you dinner with a lot of effort but you're saying you wanna eat me?!" he sighs, "You should've said it."
He smiles, ruffling your hair. "Ah, you're really something else, my baby." he says before landing a soft kiss on your lips. "Of course you can eat the chef too, but you have to eat his cooking first because he has been worried about your health all day."

*thank you to everyone that reads <3 You all make the world go round. I've really fallen in love with this story
The next two outposts were the same burnt outside, body parts, and not much else. The third one left Cooper feeling frustrated as they went over the whole place trying to find something worthwhile. Food, water, and chems were low. They could probably go a few more days, but it was making his fingers itch. He didnât like to run low on anything, as it would mean withdrawals, withdrawals lead to going feral. He glances over at Jade, he was not going feral. No. Theyâd figure this out, or heâd off himself before that happened.Â
Jade had started lifting floorboards around a desk, the woman was convinced something was under the floor. Ghoul was less optimistic, it wasnât the first time sheâd torn into a wall or floor thinking there might be more behind it. Jade hadnât said much about whatever was happening, sheâd curl up against him at night, and while they walked sheâd occasionally hold his hand. Sheâd kissed him a couple of times too, it left him feeling slightly dizzy, the world didnât feel so dark with her in it. She was a vicious killing machine when it called for, but also full of ridiculous optimism. How? He didnât try to understand. The more he learned about her life the more he questioned why she kept going. Why did anyone keep going? Jade just wanted to live, she lived for each day, and each morning. Somehow grateful that she got to keep putting one foot in front of the other.Â
âYes!â He hears her call out, taking him out of his thoughts. She had dropped down below the floor, just her hand sticking up out of the hole she jumped into. âChems!â
The Ghoul moves over looking down into the dark hole. Jade had a big smile on her dirt-covered face shaking the case of chems above her head like sheâd struck gold. He reached down, grabbing the box before placing them on the old table. Opening it up, six bottles of his chem, he couldnât help the small smile tug on his lips. Â
âHell yah,â He says, turning to look back down at her, there were half a dozen or so crates scattered over the basement. She was going through each carefully, a small stack of cans beside her, some water purifying tablets. Â
âStart passing stuff upâer, Pip-Squeak.â Cooper leaning down, she turns face to him, now covered in more dust and dirt. She grabbed a few things wrapping them up in her coat to hand to the man.Â
âThink we should be good for a little while now,â Jade smiles at him, he couldnât help the way his heart twitches seeing her grinning. She looks at him like the sun revolves around him, eyes lit up like fire.Â
âGrab whatever else, then we should get you outta here, don't know what could be down there.â He states, squatting down to hand her the jacket again.Â
After one more load, he helps Jade out from under the floor, they are both covered in dirt. Jade was over the moon with her small find, âThis should keep us supplied until we get to the next town. God I hope we get to -â
A click of a gun had Cooper whirling his own gun up, as he turns to face the two men who stand in the doorway. He fires at them, his other hand pushing Jade down, he hears her drop as gunfire goes off. His gun blasts a hole in one of the men, the man falls as the other blasts scattershot. The shot hitting the Ghoul in the chest, but that didnât stop him, instead the Ghoul was already aiming his gun at the man. The blast coming out and blowing the man's hand clear off. Another shot from outside hit the Ghoul's side, Jade standing up beside him firing at the man. Her speed and accuracy were no match for the other man as he was hit by both of them. The one man was dead on the floor, the other screaming holding the stump of his hand up. The man outside had chunks out of him but was taking off. Cooper was already at the door grabbing the man and dragging him back to the door. Jade stood over the blood-covered man as he begged her to end it.Â
âWhy are you here!â She yells at him, Cooper slamming the other manâs blood body beside the door. The other man was coughing and sputtering blood all over the ground as he oozed.Â
âThereâs a bounty on you two,â The man sobs, his face starting to go pale as blood gushes out of him. He wouldnât be long for this world, not without them fixing up his stump, which isn't going to happen.Â
âA bounty huh,â The Ghoul said, crouching in front of him, watching him try to squirm away from his gaze.
âYou killed the wrong guy's brother, Ghoul,â The man beside the door choked out, blood foaming down his face. His eyes were going in and out of focus, words more a slur than speak.Â
âWhose brother!â Jade gritted, her hand grabbing stumpy's stump and pushing a finger in.Â
The man howled, âStop, please. Please no more.â He whimpered tears covering his dirt-smeared face. âJoel, Joel Pedro. Dom Pedroâs brother, you dumb cunt.â
Jade looked up at the Ghoul, the two immediately recognizing the name. The ghoul handed her a knife, she took the knife and cut his throat, blood squirting out as he sputtered and choked.Â
The Ghoul had a foot on the other man pressing it down into its chest, the man wailing as he pushed on it, âWho the fuck is Dom Predo?â
The man shrivels back, squirming in his own icker. âHeâs coming for yah Ghoul. Heâs going to take you and the experiment girl alive.â
Cooper shot him without hesitation, the splash of blood on the doorway dripping down. Jade stood there with a confused look on her face, before moving towards the bodies, digging around in pockets. She pulls out a sheet of paper, unfolds it, and holds it up to the Ghoul.Â
His face sans hat was on there, and beside him was a poorly done drawing of Jade. Both drawings were half-assed but it was clearly them. A large bounty for them both found alive, less if they were dead. A bit more info was below, they were to be brought to the southern west coast. Details were sparse but it was enough to give them a direction.Â
âWell fuck, looks like you got your first bounty on your head, Tinyâ The Ghoul states before he folds up the paper and puts it back into his pocket. Trying not to think too hard on the fact that Jade was now in danger because of him.Â
âFirst? Youâve had this happen before?â Jade pushes, Cooper shrugging as he starts to go over the dead men. He had lost track of how many times someone had wanted his head on a platter, it never ended well for the ones looking for him. You didnât stay alive for this long without killing a few fellas.Â
âWonât be doinâ good if I wasnât on the boards myself,â He said, grabbing a good bag of caps from one of the men, theyâd be well stocked now. The Ghoul pondering a change of course now that there was a bounty on their heads.Â
âHowâd they know it was us?â Jade asks, pulling out some ammo and pocketing it. Her pants and bag were already heavily weighed down by her findings.Â
âAlways someone watching, could have been someone in one of the towns or outposts that recognized you.â He replies, fishing out a couple vials of chem, as well as another inhaler. Never hurt to have a spare one or three. The old saying, âOne is none, and two is oneâ, came to mind. Â
Jade sitting back on her heels looking at the mess, âI wish I could remember their faces, at least we could avoid them then.â
The Ghoul watching her, he could see the wheels turning in her head, he got up and went to her. Crouching beside Jade to look at the body, really what was left of the body.Â
âLookâer, I can give you some bullshit 'bout how itâs gonna be okay. That theyâll never catch us dead or alive. But I know you Jade, youâve seen this world for what it is. It ainât gonna get better, you decided to follow me. You decided to jump down that creature's throat. We both know that chances of us makinâ it to the other side unscared, much less alive, is low.â He states, he didnât know why he needed a speech, but it felt right. âNow ya can try and dig those memories up, to make sense of itâll. But Iâve been wandering this bullshit for two hundred years, and most memories thatâre gone are best left gone.â
Jade looked at him, brown eyes watching him before she stands up and stretches, audible pops as she moves. âI think thatâs the most words youâve said to me.â
The Ghoul huffed, âYeah, you're welcome, Pip-Squeak. Good it gets me.â He rolls his shoulder under the duster grabbing his bag, hoping that maybe some of the words crept into that thick skull of hers.Â
Jade has a small smile as she goes back into the building rummaging through the last dead body. âWell, it does get you a bunch of Chems, and a good amount of caps. I am not a completely useless sidekickâ
She jingled the cap and held out the chems, the Ghoul took them. Letting his hand linger on her fingers a little longer. Watching as her cheeks go a little pink, the girl had just killed three people with him and was now blushing at the touch of his glove. Maybe he was still stuck in the forest somewhere living in a daydream.
âThink we should head south at the next intersection.â He said as he stashes the bottles in his bag, Jade doing the same thing, making sure all their loot was tucked away.
âWhy south?â Jade asks, closing up her own bag. The Ghoul was grateful to see her not wincing when she shifted it onto her back. He had taken out the stitches at the second outpost. Most of her bruises and cuts are now gone, but he'd catch her every now and again wincing in pain. âThought we would be heading west?â
The Ghoul pulls out the paper that had their bounty on it. Rereading the words.âWant to know more about this fella. Dom Pedro. So we know what we are walking into.â
âWalking into?â Jade pries, as she walks over to him. âAre we planning on going after him?â
âWon't be who I was if I ran from every slimsnake that wanted my head.â He clicked his tongue, standing up and taking a hit of chem, the numbness easing his mind. âI know of a small town that should be able to get us some information. If you're game?â
Jade shrugs, looking around the place, before back at him. âDon't got any other plans.â
They continued west until they hit a crossroads, the beat-to-hell pavement more sand and gravel than the once black tarmac. Jade stands beside her companion watching him look at the different directions. His eyes squinting, head tipping as he listens. His senses were much sharper than hers, he often stop to do just this. Listen, look, smell, and take stock of what is around them. Since the forest incident, he had been extra cautious about anywhere they went. Constantly making her stay somewhere so he could scope it out. Jade would have called it annoying, but really she knew he was just trying to keep her safe.Â
As he turns she saw the wreckage of the scattershot he had taken. Grimacing a little at the wounds, she hopes heâd let her dig them out. It had to be painful, right? He finally faces south, squirting down the way.
âWhat is it?â Jade finally asks, trying to see what he could. She moves to stand right behind him, shifting the weight of her bag on her shoulders. Regretting having taken those extra cans of cram, the bag's weight pressing down on her tender joints.Â
The Ghoul huffs, rolling his shoulders, âI am not sure, something feels wrong.â Jade tried to let her senses feel out, when she had been in the forest she had felt the strangest, the wrongness of the place. Here though, it didnât feel any different than any of the other trails theyâd been on.Â
Jade shifts her weight onto her other foot. The thought that they could be going down another fucked up forest trail was not high on her to-do list. âCan we not go that way?â She gestures towards the western trail.Â
He turns to her, looking to where she is pointing. âYou scared now pip-squeak? Thought you went on instinct.â
Jade rolls her eyes at him, at the moment her instincts are dull. She had blamed it on the many stimpaks and med-x shots sheâd taken, but standing there she wondered if it was something else. âInstinct would like me to live, not go through another monster-being-dropped-on-my-head forest walk,â Jade replies sarcastically, trying not to let the fear creep into her voice.Â
The Ghoul let out a wheezing cough of laughter, a crooked smile on his face, âYeah, I would rather not carry your dead weight around.â Jade gives him a dirty look at the comment, âWe should keep going West then, it will be a bit roundabout.â
âRoundabout, but alive sounds better than, straightforward and dead.â Jade sighs, turning towards the western path. She is about ten steps down the road before realizing he hasnât moved yet, âYou losin' it, old man.âÂ
The Ghoul turns towards her, eyes covered by the shade of his hat. âDotcha think itâs a little odd, how everytime we try to go in a directions somethin is standin in our way?â
Jade shrugs again, she hadnât really thought about it that much. Really she hadnât thought further than the next place they slept. Was it weird? Maybe, but this was the Wastes, and it wasnât uncommon to run into issues.Â
âItâs really only the one time?â Jade said, walking back over to him. âNot like weâve been traveling for months here.âÂ
âFifteen days,â The Ghoul said, still staring down the southern path. Jade standing beside him, wondering why he had kept track of how many days. Maybe it was an old-world way she didnât understand.Â
âIf you really want to go south, we can,â Jade states, yeah she was not really up for another battle, but she wasnât going anywhere without him either. Sense dulled or not, she couldnât imagine being alone out here. The realization that she is heavily relying on him, made her heart clench. Did he even feel the same way? Was this a hint that they would be splitting?
The Ghoul turns to her, his hazel eyes looking over her face. Jade held his eye contact, wishing he would just tell her what he was thinking instead of staring at her. The silence was always so much worse than the arguing.Â
âWell, letâs go,â He said, moving past her down the western trail, in a flurry of material swishing behind him.
Jadeâs shoulders slump as she follows him, working hard to keep up with his long-legged pace. Wondering why he had decided to move at the speed of sound all of sudden. She thought about his comment, about how there always seemed to be something in their way.Â
âWhat did you mean back there,â She finally asks, âAbout something being in our way?â
The Ghoul was quiet, Jadeâs boots echoing around them as they moved. Jade stops, waiting for the Ghoul to do the same. He turns back looking at her, she still couldnât make out the expression on his face. Maybe this was it, he had finally decided he was done carrying her dead weight.
âWhat?â He asks, throwing his hands up. âWe're going West, will go around. Save us the headache of finding another critter.â
âWhat do you mean what?â Jade asks, âYou were standing there like you were contemplating the meaning of life instead of which direction we should go."
âJust doesnât feel right is all.â Ghoul huffs, making as if he is going to leave but doesnât move much. Instead pacing back and forth. âWe should.â He swallows, looking away towards the trees. âI canât,â
Jade is moving towards him, but he is still staring off face covered in shadow. âWhat is it? Is this âcause of the bounty? Thought you said this wasnât uncommon?â
âItâs not safe traveling with me. Yah got a bounty on your head, you almost got killed. Cause you are following me.â The last words are so quiet she almost doesnât hear them, his shoulders drawn up like he was trying to hide himself away from her.Â
Jade stands in front of him, seeing the pain in his eyes makes her heartache. The holes in his chest had mostly stopped bleeding, but would need to be tended to. At the moment his mind was what needed tending. She reaches up to touch his face, but he moves away from her touch.
âStop it.â He says, the words holding no venom, he takes a step back from her. Jade wasnât having it, moving backward with him.
âMe? Stop it?â Jade cusses, âYou think I canât make my own choices?â This time when she reaches for him she pushes him backwards. He barely moves, head tipped down, not looking at her. âTreating me like a child.â Jade is now raising her voice, âI am here, following you. Cause I want to be here.â She shoves him again, âMy life has been a living hell for years, and the last however many fuckin days, have been some of the best ones. Even if the monster almost killed me.â
She goes to shove him again, the Ghoul is grabbing both her wrists holding them in iron-like vices. He pushes her back, she stumbles until her back hits a tree with a thump. Thankful that her backpack cushions it. Jadeâs hands are pinned against the branch, the Ghoul is right in her face, eyes lit like fire as he glares down at her. Jade's Heart pounding in her chest as his eyes flow over her face.Â
âYou are so frustrating,â He growls at her, Jade staring right back at him with just as much venom, âI canât keep you safe forever.â
Jade grits her teeth, struggling against his grip, knowing she most likely wonât break free. But there was no way in hell she was going down easily. âI am not asking you to. You vacuum-sealed raisin.â
A small smile twitches his lips at her insult, âLook who's talking, smooth skin.âÂ
Then he leaned down and pressing his lips against hers. Jade froze for a moment, brain trying to figure out how they went from arguing to kissing. Pushing that out of her mind, she pushes back, the bridge of his nose bumping against hers, the warm brush of air as he breathes out. Her whole body reacts when he opens his mouth and sucks her lip into his, keening as she pushes her body against his. Feeling her wrists being let go, his hands traveled down her body, pulling her close. She reached down and held his face, his rough skin under her hands, feeling each scar and mark. Trying to remember the way they felt and how he tastes, all of it.Â
As suddenly as it started it stopped, the Ghoul pulling away, resting his forehead against hers, hat shading both of them. Their breath mixes as they try and catch it, hearts thundering under their clothes.Â
âI donât need you to save me,â Jade whispers, opening her eyes so she can see him. Feeling how his brow furrows at the words. âI just need you with me. For however long we get.â His breath is evening out, eyes still closed, Jade wishing he would look at her. âPlease, I donât know how long I will get. But Iâd rather spend it with you.â
She hears him swallowing, his hand coming to cover the sides of her face. âI donât know if I can lose someone again.â
The hurt in his voice had Jade wrapping her arms around him, hugging him close to her body. Feeling him tremble a little as she held on, refusing to let go of him. She didnât care about anything else but holding onto him. Holding onto a man, who had seen every part of his world destroyed. Lost family, friends, and more to this horrid wasteland.Â
âI will follow you, wherever you go. Until this world of ours ends,â Jade whispers, holding him tight for a moment more.

Fallout London First Impressions/Semi-Organized Thoughts
Things I'm not a fan of;
The female player character combat sounds, while not the worst I've ever heard, are bad to the point of distraction at times. I was streaming it for some friends and we broke out in laughter at various points because of how unnatural they sound. Don't know what the male sounds are like yet.
Biggest complaint though, the choice to freeze the player in place during important 'cut scenes.' At two points early in the game, a mysterious agent talks to you and does your basic mysterious exposition talk stuff. I assume it's to prevent you missing these moments, but by the level design I kind of already can't.
In both cases you can't proceed anyways because the agent has to unlock doors for you. It felt less egregious in the hallway because I wasn't sure what was about to happen and it was a small space with nothing to see anyways. The second time in the atrium got on my nerves though. Here's this huge space I could be exploring while the agent talks at me through some big tv screens, but instead I am stuck waiting.
Bugs I've encountered;
Churchill the dog companion. Nice guy. His footsteps are absurdly loud. It's like there's a small horse stomping around near my head. I assume this is not intended hence filing it under bugs, but I was forced to leave him behind because of it.
Beware ye who try to fast travel. Seems prone to causing crashes so always save before you try. I also crashed twice when taking the train out of the starting area into the main world.
There's a sequence on a boat. It seemed like the boat got stuck for a moment and then I fell through it into highly radioactive water and died.
Things I'm enjoying
Honestly, pretty much all of it.
I can't really help but compare it to New Vegas' relationship to Fallout 3. Where 3 and 4 have their drawn out intros, in New Vegas and London you wake up in front of some doctors. Pick your face, states, and traits, and bing bang boom you're on the move soon after trying to figure out who you are and who did this to you. Oh yeah, much like New Vegas, they brought back traits again. The perk system also got reworked/reskinned to be closer to how it was before 4 as well.
The world building especially though. After spending so much time being frustrated at Bethesda for not seeming to think very deeply about the ways the East Coast might be different from the West Coast, it's so nice to see all the thought put into how things would be different in Britain. Using tickets from the Underground as currency. Ion Brew as the local soda of choice. London Ghouls I believe prefer to go by the term Commuter? Viewing the term ghoul much the same way US Ghouls view zombie it seems. Though I've only heard that from one ghoul so far.
The ATTA-Boy is especially cute. A handheld version of the Pip-Boy that was reverse engineered off of scavenged/stolen Roboco Pip-Boys.
I've gotten myself involved in some kind of gang turf war. Can't wait to see where that goes.
Also the array of local creatures they've made is great. The giant leeches are awful, good job guys. Radshrews, giant ladybugs, mangy foxes. The Fish People. Can't wait to see what else is out there.
Last thought, Greenwich Footbridge was a horrifying experience (positive). Nothing like being trapped in a flooded tunnel full of ghouls.

South Park Filler Guide - Season 3
Link for Season 1 Link for Season 2
I find the existence of filler guides quite amusing, since for some shows it makes sense (like Naruto), but for others (like Pokemon) it absolutely doesn't and they still exist. So here is an attempt to do an absolutely unnecessary one just for fun. đ
The classifications are CANON (an episode with major storylines present), LOREÂ (in which we get significant backstory or world building, but could be skippable)Â and FILLER (completely skippable episodic storytelling, not connected to overarching story arcs)
PLS my analysis will have spoilers, if you're a first time viewer, just scroll to the bottom and read the list and only read full text if you are familiar with the content of the show already!
S3E1 Rainforest Shmainforest is LORE
It's a great episode for developing the characters to be written more consistent, which will be a general trend in this season compared to the last one, however Kelly disappearing after this episode really doesn't help this one cement itself in the long run, however Craig's small scene and character introduction gives some context why Eric considers him the baddest boy in school a few episodes later, but that isn't needed.
S3E2 Spontaneous Combustion is FILLER
Randy's early spotlight episode, it's fun and great, again, but nothing carries over from this one.
S3E3 The Succubus is FILLER
So Eric now has Kenny's eyes? Anyway, that conflict wasn't introduced until now, and any other conflict introduced here gets an instant resolution.
S3E4 Jakovasaurs is FILLER
It's a fine spotlight episode for Mayor McDaniels and a largely unimpressive episode for a lot of other reasons, that doesn't ever influence anything.
S3E5 Tweek vs. Craig is CANON
Of course this one is canon! We learn more about how Kenny is aware of his deaths, fan-favorite ship Richard Adler and Pam Brady is introduced and Eric Cartman learns sumo from a grand master which all will be important later! And also some background kids get into a conflict or something.
South Park the Movie 1: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is CANON
And not only is it canon, I hereby present you it in its true placement for anyone who didn't know when to watch it. Stan character development and romance with Saddam, more on Kenny and death, Sheila starts M.A.C., overall big events that will be influental to a lot of later episodes.
S3E6 Sexual Harrassment Panda is FILLER
Matt and Trey have no memory of making this episode. Neither do we have any memory of it minutes after watching it.
S3E7 Cat Orgy is CANON
Because of course, the Meteor Shower arc is a big thing, Shelley's boyfriend Skyler will go on to form a band called Lords of the Underworld. This one also explains where Shelley and Eric were while...
S3E8 Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub is CANON
Stan had to befriend Butters. Also we learn of Dougie and that he is on friendly term with Butters. Pip is also here, but that one hardly helps this episode to count as canon, so I just won't mention it. Look, Kyle returns! We just need an explanation from where
S3E9 Jewbilee is CANON
he was. Also Kenny was there with him it seems. This one's super canon because of Moses of course. That's enough. And it also pairs up with Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub. TBH I could easily say these two are canon and Cat Orgy is but lore, but it's intended to be a trilogy and I respect that.
S3E10 Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery is FILLER
It's a strange episode with a Chewbacca ending. Kyle's grandma's body is here, but nothing else is consequential.
S3E11 Chinpokomon is LORE
While the plot of the episode itself doesn't leave much of an impact, the Chinpokomon franchise still exists within South Park. S3E12 Hooked on Monkey Fonics is FILLER
The Cotswolds' never reappear. Mark does in background roles. Butters gets a kiss that later gets retconned. I looove this episode, but this is a filler. S3E13 Starvin' Marvin in Space is FILLER
This is a sequel to one earlier episode and nothing else. (It's a good time though) S3E14 The Red Badge of Gayness is FILLER
The boys learn that the north won and slavery is now illegal. They have a bet which is also moot by the end. S3E15 Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classic is FILLER
It doesn't seem fair to classify this one, since it's more of a company EP than an episode by design. S3E16 Are You There God? It's me Jesus is CANON
God appears in this one. We learn more on his relationship with Jesus. S3E17 World Wide Recorder Concert is LORE
Herbert's relationship with his father add to understanding his character.
SPOILER-FREEÂ RUNDOWN
Again, CANON means you should watch it, FILLER means you can skip it, LORE is somewhere in-between, any episode with the LORE label will have an explanation that helps you decide if you should include it or not.
S3E1 Rainforest Shmainforest is LORE* S3E2 Spontaneous Combustion is FILLER S3E3 The Succubus is FILLER S3E4 Jakovasaurs is FILLER S3E5 Tweek vs. Craig is CANON South Park MOV 1: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is CANON S3E6 Sexual Harrassment Panda is FILLER S3E7 Cat Orgy is CANON S3E8 Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub is CANON S3E9 Jewbilee is CANON S3E10 Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery is FILLER S3E11 Chinpokomon is LORE** S3E12 Hooked on Monkey Fonics is FILLER S3E13 Starvin' Marvin in Space is FILLER S3E14 The Red Badge of Gayness is FILLER S3E15 Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classic is FILLER S3E16 Are You There God? It's me Jesus is CANON S3E17 World Wide Recorder Concert is LORE*** *If you want to see a scene of Craig Tucker to understand his status **If you want to know what Chinpokomon is, but it's pretty obviously a Pokemon parody every time it appears. ***If you want to know Herbert Garrison's complicated childhood traumas. CANON counter:
S1: 9 out of 13 S2: 3 out of 18 S3: 6 out of 17 Overall: 18 out of 48

YOUR HONOR!
EHEM EHEM *REMOVING THE CAPTIONS*
I've been starving to see more side/background characters in madness combat đ
Please! Could you do anything for Jorge and church?
Or the Fanatics Or the Bandits?
Anything you're comfortable with!!
Not sure if it should be romantic or platonic though
OK, JORGE AND CHURCH!! MY DUMB BELOVED IDITOTS!!! GET OVER HERE!!!
This one is going to be romantic ;]
Your honor, are you prepared. . .
Jorge And Church, The G03LM Duo!!!!
Romance~:
Oh boy, these guys, were confident as fuck when they confessed to you, because they believe you 100% say yes.... and you did(if you said no, church would be hurt as fuck and in denial)
Anyway, basically, church and jorge are your bodyguards, but chaotic, making you the most sane person in the world... sort of.
Now, I think jorge and church would always show of their skills. Yes, even their muscles. If you compliment them or praise them a little, they're confidence boost up ALOT.
Being in a relationship with them, you gotta be affectionate. These guys not only love the compliments, but they LOVE hugs you give them even if church denies it. Jorge won't. He knows he's deserves it.
Everyone can tell they're in a relationship with you. Why? Because they always keep showing off their lover, aka you.(sanford and deimos were unamused).
For church, his nicknames for you are mostly pip squeak or mouse, sometimes shortie. Meanwhile, for jorge, it's similar but may call you by your nickname that your parents or family member came up( sorry if your nickname is to embarrassing for you).
Despite being stubborn, they would sometimes listen to you, but the moment your not around, CHAOS!! which is why everyone in the MERC always call you. Your basically like an owner.
Forgot to mention that they get jealous, especially if you happen to know sanford or deimos.
You have to reassure them that you love them and no one else. Why? Because Church and Jorge may or may not try to kill that poor grunt.
The dates are mostly the cafeteria, them taking you to fast food places, even if alotvfucked up shit is going on and most importantly playfights, don't worry they go easy on you and maybe bully you a little.
Oh boy, if a random idiot hurts you, they better start running and trying to hide because good lord, they don't let shit slide. I kid you not, if they can track sanford and deimos. They can find that poor fool instant.
Now jorge and church have the same love language. For both physical touch, both would love to feel your arms trying to wrap around them, they find it funny and they like to have you close to them, it makes them feel better than your safe with them.
If they had a second love language, I think it would be quality time, I can imagine them trying to get your attention while you watch to listen to them either rant or show off, maybe even playfights.
Despite being rude and cocky, they both love you even if you are small or big. They love you... plus, they give a shirt that says, "Size matters." :D
I hope you like this one, I might do bandits or fanatics, but I have other requests to finish, so I hope you have a good day and night
#madness combat#madness project nexus#madcom#madness combat x reader#madcom x reader#jorge and church x reader#madness combat side characters?? is that right?#honestly#i actually tried my best here

â jessie and piper headcanons
from piperâs world !
back on the writing grind after taking a small break post blurb night :) iâve still got some lil blurbs that i want to complete so look out for them!
ৠâ§âË đș â
Ë àŒ àłâïœĄË
- before piper called jessie mama, she called her âmy jessieâ
- the two of them love to draw and read together. jessie keeps piperâs bookshelf stacked and theyâve read every single one
- piper looooooves it when jessie cooks. thereâs never a fuss at dinner time if jessieâs making the meal
- if the two of them nap together
- jessie got piper a little ladybug onsie. itâs got wings and antenna and is the cutest little thing
- when jess heard that pip was missing only one ninja turtle soft toy from her collection, she immediately started looking around for it.
jessie remembered a big toy outlet near her hometown and asked elysse if she could take a look for her. elysse ended up finding the turtle toy and jessie sent her money to pay for it as well as the shipping to london
- since she grew up around jessie, piper picked up some of her little habits and quirks
- jessie and piper went on runs together when piper was growing up, much like jessie did with her family
- the two of them would practice taking penalties for hours on end and piper grows up to credit that practice to her penalty taking abilities
when she scores a winning penalty in the world cup with the matildas, she points jessie out in the crowd and mouths the words âbecause of youâ. the moment goes viral and itâs a fan favourite
- jessieâs the one that got piper to like broccoli, because she cooks it better than you do
- if piper sneaks into you and jessieâs bed through the night she almost always ends up on top of jessie or curled into her so far that sheâs almost pushing jessie off the bed
- jessie likes to hang up piperâs artwork in her cubby in the changerooms
- when piper gets older and taller than jessie, she drapes herself over jessieâs back and drags her feet so that jessie is forced to carry her
- they watch documentaries together
- the two of them can talk for hours on end about seemingly anything and everything
- when your team found out that you and jessie were together, piper started randomly telling katie and leah about all the things her and jessie do together so that theyâd approve of you dating a chelsea player
- piper likes to help jessie cook
- if canada and australia play eachother, jessie will often wear piperâs matildas jersey and a canada scarf
- whenever the arsenal and chelsea girls would debate which team piper would grow up and play for jessie never got involved. she knows that piper is arsenal through and through.
- after the first time piper and jessie met, piper asked if she could see jessie again
- when piper finds out youâre pregnant with a second baby she becomes worried that she wonât be jessieâs anymore
she goes through a pretty rough patch with this but you and jessie figure it out relatively easy.
it happens again when piperâs a teenager, and itâs pretty hurtful for jessie to hear a second time around
- if you and jessie have a big argument piper will suggest baking you something sweet
- jessie and piper create many little traditions over the years that the two of them try to stick to well into piperâs adult life

this is my advice to anyone entering the corporate world. there are a lot of issues with working at fortune 500s but one thing i love about them is that because theyre huge and faceless, no one has any loyalty to the company and we're all smart enough to know we're expendable.
in the case of my former employer that meant my managers were loyal to US, the team, not the company. so they used the wide berth of the company scope to cultivate our skills while also giving us a lot of leeway to have a good work-life balance as long as the work got done (leaving early, taking longer lunch breaks etc). as a result i dont give a shit about my company but i have a fierce loyalty to them as my mentors
but when you work at startups and small companies where the mission is distilled to one to three people -- who are often present in meetings -- you are really subject to the egos of those people. ive had brain farts while speaking to these guys that have ended up being listed as reasons for being put on a PIP (and by brain fart i mean blanking for a second when asked a question bc i was basically transcribing the very important meeting at like 110 wpm). ive fucked up entire assignments at my f500 job and my manager was justifiably frustrated but gave me grace based on my broader performance and didnt penalize me for it
ive worked for SO many startups and one fuckhuge corporation and i have to say the fuckhuge corporation gave me more money, more room to breathe, more stability, and more benefits. like as long as the company is not building drones or teslas or whatever i'd take that shit any day sorry. prioritize jobs at big faceless companies/brands (within reason) over startups and "families." you're expendable to all of them, but one of them is big enough to be structured and much less likely to subject you to cliquey power dynamics that cannot be simply brought to HR

Bing Crosby's voice warbles from a portable stereo propped up near the sink, singing about a white Christmas; red-ribboned garland lines the windows and door frame; small wreathes bedeck the cabinet doors; and Steve Harrington stands at the kitchen island.
He turns when he hears the slip of Eddie's socks on the tile, grin already blossoming across his face, and they're hugging before he really processes it happening. Steve mumbles, "it's good to see you, Ed," in his ear.
The hug is too tight and too long for what they are to each other now.
They break apart, Steve immediately turning back to the baked sugar cookies spread out on the island.
"Wanna help?" He asks.
Eddie sticks his hands in his back pocket, walks to stand next to his ex, his best friend, his--everything in the world that matters. "What are we making, Stevie?"
"Frosting sugar cookies. Think you can handle it?" He wiggles a pipping bag in Eddie's face.
"No way," Eddie says.
"Yeah, c'mon, you're a good artist."
"With like, pencils and shit. Not icing."
"You'll do great."
"You sure about that? Remember when--"
Steve snorts. "Oh, you mean the last time you tried to bake, and I had to mop chocolate batter off my ceiling? And I found dried splatters of it for months? Yeah. I remember."
Eddie hides his laugh in a cough. "Sorry?"
He wanted to bake a cake for Steve's birthday, back when they were together, made a mess instead. Steve had just laughed and kissed him, started cleaning.
Their relationship started out hot and heavy in the months after Vecna. They got caught up in it, threw themselves headfirst into the kind of love that sucks you under, turns you inside out, leaves you with nothing. It ended, like it was always going to, when Eddie couldn't get out from under the shadow of his own self-loathing. Terrified he was fucking everything up, he packed his bags and left in the dead of night.
They're older now, though. More settled. The trauma softened by time.
"Coffee?" Steve asks.
"Please."
Steve gets it brewing, pours a couple mugs, adds the cream and sugar just like Eddie likes. Of course.
They ice cookies--and okay, Eddie's not so bad at it--and they chat and it's good. Nice. Two old friends catching up.
"Hey," Steve says.
Eddie looks over, would never not when it's Steve asking. The man in questions smiles at him, big and guileless, which is all the warning Eddie needs. He doesn't quite manage to duck in time, and Steve swipes frosting covered fingers across his face. He makes a pained noise, an injured little squeak, that has Steve in hysterics.
"Steve!" He shrieks.
The culprit is doubled-over, clinging to the countertop to stay on his feet, shaking with laughter.
"You--you," Steve half-sobs. "The look on your face!"
Eddie grabs a mostly fully piping bag. "You're gonna get it, Harrington."
"No--no," Steve darts sideways. "This sweater is dry clean only!"
"Should have thought of that." Eddie manages to smear frosting across Steve's wrist. "No one actually uses the dry cleaner, anyway."
They tussle around the island, giggling and shouting. He finally manages to catch Steve, drawing lines of icing over his face to the sounds of spasming giggles.
"Okay, okay," Steve says. His chest visibly heaves from exertion. "We should clean up."
Eddie shrugs. "You brought it on yourself."
"Yeah, yeah. Here." Steve hands him a wet towel and they spend the next few minutes smearing frosting off their faces.
He tosses his red and green smeared towel into the sink. "Happy with yourself?"
"Uh-huh, yeah--Oh, you've got a little--" Steve points towards Eddie's chin.
"Here?" Eddie wipes haphazardly at his face.
"No, it's--Can I?"
Eddie nods and then Steve is pressing his index finger to the corner of Eddie's bottom lip, gently swiping. Their eyes lock and there's nothing else in the room.
"Got it," Steve whispers. He doesn't pull his finger away.
"Thank you." Eddie's not sure anything but air comes out.
Steve's eyes dip down, fixing on Eddie's mouth and the spot his own fingers rest.
Eddie thinks he might die.
On the other side of the house, there's the sound of a door closing, the thud of approaching feet.
Steve pushes away, grabs a cookie and a piping bag.
Eddie has a few seconds to settle himself, figure out how to breathe. He's barely calm when Mark's deep voice rumbles through the kitchen, "Hey, babe. How's the baking?"
"Good," Steve says. "Work okay?"
He can't be rude, has toacknowledge that Mark is here, in the room, co-owner of the house.
"The usual." Steve and Mark smile at each other, soft and intimate.
When they kiss, Eddie drops his eyes.
"Eddie! Good to see you, my man!" Mark says, wrapping him in a loose hug.
Eddie pats his back, says, "Been awhile."
"Yeah, you should come around more often. Know Steve here would love to see you. Guess LA is keeping you busy."
"Guess so," Eddie agrees.
He's desperate to get out of here, dying for a break, to blot their easy intimacy out of his brain. "I--uh, think I need a cigarette break. I'll be back in a minute."
"Don't take too long," Steve says. He doesn't look away from Mark, so Eddie doesn't bother answering.
He steps out the back, cigarette and Bic already in his hands, lights it before the door is back in the frame.
--
Hours later, he slips out to the front porch, this time for a second to breathe. Even outside, he can hear Mike and Dustin yelling, the girls chiming in, Joyce and Hopper and Wayne laughing, "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" blasting.
He walks to the side of the house, steps stuttering in the snow when he sees the glowing ember of a lit cigarette.
"Eddie?" Steve asks. "Need a smoke?"
"Nope, just wanted to clear my head." His heart thuds loud enough he's sure Steve can hear.
There's a beat, only a second or two, before the cigarette falls to the snow with a soft sizzle and Steve's hands are bunched in his shirt.
The kiss is hot, hard, desperate. His fingers dig into Steve's hair, pulling tight.
"Baby, baby," Steve murmurs, their mouths not even parted. "I missed you so much."
Eddie whimpers, clings tighter. "I know, sweetheart. I know, but we promised--"
"Fuck, I'm sorry. I just--"
"Stevie." His thumbs caress the planes of Steve's face. "I can't do this anymore. We said--"
"I know, I know. But I can't stop thinking about you. It's all the time. I miss you so bad that it hurts. Right here in my chest. And fuck--I lo--"
"You don't," Eddie says. Vision obscured with tears.
"I do," Steve's fingers grip around him tighter. "I always have. I never stopped. I thought you--I thought--"
"Steve?" Robin's voice calls into the night.
They let their hands drop away from each other, step apart so they're no longer entwined.
"Be right there, Rob," Steve says.
Eddie lights another cigarette. "You should go in," he says.
"Yeah." Steve nods, won't look in Eddie's direction. "Merry Christmas," he says, walks back toward the house.
He thunks his head against the red-brick of the house, staring up at the gleaming white lights lining the edge of the roof, finally letting the tears fall.
"Merry-fucking-Christmas," he echoes.

This doesnât follow any storylines from the books or show, just pip and reader being sweet together (sorry Ravi, we love you) I had written this a while back, for future reference I donât plan on doing much more Pip x reader
Pip Fitz-Amobi x Reader sickfic
Saturday Sick-day
Pip groaned as she woke up. Something felt wrong, off. She rolled over in bed to check the time on her phone and saw a text from you. She smiled, but when she moved to grab her phone to text back, her arm didnât seem to cooperate, the limb feeling heavy like a bag of sand.
She frowned as she attempted to sit up but was immediately hit with a pounding headache and a runny, itchy nose that made her sneeze suddenly into her duvet. She sighed a lay back down in defeat. Today was going to suck, apparently.
***
Your brows furrowed as you glanced down at your phone, the âgood morning :)â text youâd sent to her a couple hours ago was still on delivered, not even read. A small pit of worry settled in your stomach. Your girlfriend always answered your texts, especially the morning ones.
The only reason she wouldnât was if she was busy with schoolwork or with another one of her obsession projects and she had her headphones in and didnât notice the text. Your leg bounced a few moments against the kitchen floor before you grabbed your phone and called her.
It wasnât that either of you were clingy, (though you both didnât mind that), it was that you were just protective of her. She was your person after all, your best friend, your girlfriend, and the girl you love more than anything.
You waited as the call went to voicemail then you shoved your phone in your pocket and threw on your favorite soft blue hoodie which was also Pipâs favorite. Then you put on your shoes and left your house. Just a couple minutes and a short walk later and you were knocking on the Fitz-Amobiâs door, your signature tap-tap-tap ta-tap. Shoving your hands in your pocket, you waited until you heard footsteps approaching. A big smile came across your face when Pipâs little brother Josh opened the door, his hair messy from sleep, still wearing his dino pjs which he only wore on Saturdays.
âY/n!â He greeted, his smile showing a few missing teeth. âHey bud!â You held out a hand so you could do the special handshake the two of you had created together. It made you happy that Josh liked you. He was so important to Pip and so it meant the world to her that you both go along so well. Though what wasnât there to like? Josh was a sweet, silly, adorable little boy, so caring about him was easy.
âHippo Pippoâs in her roomâ He said like heâd read your mind. You smiled at the silly nickname he had for his older sister. âHowâd you know I was going to ask that?â You feigned confusion and Josh giggled before his face turned into a small frown.
âMum said sheâs not feeling well and that I have to give her space today while mum and dad are out.â He explained and you frowned along with him as he finally opened the door all the way and let you in. You closed the door behind you.
âPipâs sick?â You clarified and the boy nodded as you followed him into the kitchen where he sat down at the counter and continued eating a bowl of cereal heâd already started on. âMum said itâs just a cold. You can go up if you want, but sheâs cranky when sheâs sick.â He warned through a mouthful of food.
âAw I think I can handle our little Pip-Zillaâ You sat down next to him for a minute. âAre your parents out all day?â You asked and he nodded again. âOkay, how âbout you go watch some tv and Iâll go check on her huh?â You offered. With a sick girlfriend and a 10 year old boy, there was no way you were leaving them by themselves. Josh smiled and grabbed his bowl and ran carefully towards the living room.
âIâll stick around today, k, Joshy? Let me know if you need anything.â You called after him and you got a muffled âOkay!â In response as you heard the tv click on. Now that he was settled, you immediately rushed upstairs. Youâd been dating Pip a while but neither of you had really gotten sick yet besides the occasional period cramps and study headaches.
You knocked softly on her closed door, hopefully as to not startle her. You slowly opened the door and walked into the dark, cool room, your eyes immediately drifting to her bed whereyou saw a Pip-sized lump curled up under the duvet.
She let out a soft groan at the light from the hallway and you quickly shut the door, filling the room once again with darkness. âPip?â You called out softly as you walked over to her bed.
She shifted a little and turned towards you, though her eyes stayed closed. âPips, hey. Itâs me.â You murmured softly, a gentle hand reaching down to cup her face which you found shockingly warm. She shivered feverishly and nuzzled into your comforting touch. Her eyes were still closed and you werenât entirely sure she was lucid, more likely trapped in a fevered daze.
âBabe, can you hear me?â You asked as gently as possible as you crouched down to be closer to her. She let out a congested groan so you assumed that was a yes. You let your thumb graze lightly along her blazing skin and the two of you fell into a silent moment.
Even in the dimly lit room you could see the paleness of her face contrasting with the deep red flush of her fever. Her nose was pink and her hairline was coated in a thin line of sweat. Damn she really was sick. The worried furrow of your brow faded and was replaced with a soft smile when Pipâs eyes slowly fluttered open.
âHey, hi.â You murmured, continuing to stroke her cheek. She let out a deep sigh, eyes blinking rapidly to try and focus her blurry vision. ây/n?â She rasped, her voice sounding gravelly and exhausted. You nodded and smiled at her.
âYeah, yeah Iâm here babes. Josh said you werenât feeling too good, huh?â The smallest ghost of a smile appeared in the corner of her lips as she gazed at you with tired, hazy eyes. âWell thaâs n understatement.â She slurred then turned her face into her pillow, letting out a rough sounding cough. Your heart ached at how miserable she sounded. Her eyes fluttered then, threatening to close.
âHey, no, stay awake for me babe.â You spoke softly but with enough seriousness for her to comply. She let out a small whimper and you sighed. âI know, Pip. I know youâre tired, but have you had any medicine yet today?â You asked, brushing a few sweaty strands of brown locks from her face.
âmno.â She mumbled. âThatâs okay, Iâm going to find some for you alright? You feel too warm, we should really get your fever down.â You explained gently. You took her silence as agreement and stood up, watching as she closed her heavy eyes.
âCheck âth bathroomâ she murmured a few beats later when you looked around her room and found nothing useful. âBe right back.â You bent down and kissed her hair before heading to the bathroom in the hall.
Having been to her house so many times, it was easy to find what you needed and in no time you were back standing by Pipâs bedside, measuring out a small cup, filling it with the honey colored Dayquill. You also popped a fever reducing pill out of its bottle, setting both the small cup and pill on her bedside table.
Pipâs eyes opened again, watching you tiredly as you turned to her with a thermometer. She silently opened her mouth so you could set it under her tongue. âIâm going to grab you some water.â You said, noticing the lack of important liquid. âKeep that in your mouth until I get back, okay?â You half asked, half ordered. Pip nodded and you smiled before leaving the room which now glowed with the soft yellow light from her desk lamp. Youâd figured that would be far enough from her bed to not be too harsh on her eyes while also giving you the light you needed to help her.
Moving swiftly, you made your way downstairs to the kitchen and filled up Pipâs favorite water bottle with fresh, cool water. You also grabbed an ice pack from the freezer and wrapped it in a thin cloth. The squishy, easily manipulated patch would be perfect to cool her fever down a bit. You quickly stopped by the living room to check on Josh and he gave you a bright smile and a thumbs up when you asked if he was good.
Then you rushed back upstairs just in time to hear the soft beeping of the thermometer. You set your new things down and gently took it out of Pipâs mouth, frowning at the number, your stomach immediately twisting with worry.
You sighed at the glowing red light. âYou really do like doing things to the extreme huh? Go big or go home?â You joked lightly, trying to settle your own beating heart. Pip just shrugged and smiled sheepishly at you, her fevered flush deepening to a harsher pink.
You knew she hated to worry you. She also hated being sick, being incapable. âWell, letâs work on getting you back to normal.â You smiled, handing her both medicines which she took without protest. Another sign she really did feel bad. Your girlfriend did not like taking any kind of medicine, too stubborn to recognize when she needed a little help.
You handed her her water even though sheâd just set it down. âYou need to stay as hydrated at possible and as your girlfriend, Iâm making it my job to make sure you do so.â You said when she sulked at you. She rolled her eyes but took a few more long sips anyway. It did soothe her throbbing throat.
Smiling, you took it back, setting it down before picking up the cool pack and making a move towards the bed. Pip looked up at you, an adorably confused look on her face. âWhatâre doin?â She questioned and it was your turn to roll your eyes at her playfully.
âGetting in bed so I can hold you.â You explained though you thought it was obvious. Germs didnât often bother you, you were never one to pass up cuddles with your girlfriend, and she was incredibly miserable, of course you were going to give her every ounce of comfort you could and you knew how much she loved physical touch.
âNo.â Her sad pout did not match her reply. You could see how badly she wanted this too. âYouâll get sick and trust me, you donât want this.â She sniffed and coughed into her elbow. You smiled at her thoughtfulness.
âOkay two things: first, you know how amazing my immune system is. Second, donât you remember what occurred in this very spot literally two days ago? If you were contagious then and I havenât gotten it then I probably wont...â You paused with a small smirk and you could tell by the look on her face that she was definitely revisiting the hot make out session youâd had the other day in her mind too. You were too.
ââŠaaannddd, youâre my girlfriend and I love you and thereâs no way Iâm not doing this so Iâd just give in now and surrender to the ultimate healing powers of cuddles.â You finished and your smile grew triumphant when you knew you had won her over. She sighed and you kissed her cheek. You jumped into bed beside her and snuggled under the too-hot covers.
âThat was three things.â She pointed out as she immediately cuddled up to you and you wrapped your arms around her. âWhatever.â You chuckled, pulling the blanket closer around her as she got comfortable and rested her head to your chest.
âSee? Donât you feel better already?â You mused a couple minutes later when youâd felt Pipâs tense body finally relax in your hold and her eyes fluttered closed as she listened to the familiar beating of your heart. It was one of her favorite sounds, never failing to calm her down.
âMaybe a little.â She grumbled into your soft hoodie, but she said it with a small smile as she nuzzled her cheek against the familiar fabric. âMmm I love this sweatshirt.â Her words were muffled by it. You smiled down at her âI know.â A comfortable silence fell between the two of you as you continued to hold your girlfriend close.
At one point you found yourself running your fingers through her slightly damp hair, gently massaging her head in the way you knew she liked. A bit later, there was a soft knock at Pipâs door before Josh crept in quietly, a worried look on his face.
âHey bud, whatâs up?â You asked in a hushed tone, trying not to disturb the sleepy girl in your arms even though sheâd already shifted a little with a small groan when the door creaked open. Josh just looked at Pip, a tired, miserable bundle under the blankets.
âIs she okay?â He whispered back, shifting his focus from her to you. You smiled softly and his worry visibly eased a little. âYeah she is. Well, she doesnât really feel great right now, but you know our girl. Sheâll be better in no time.â You reassured the young boy.
A beat passed as he stood awkwardly, not sure what to do next. âHey, how about you go give your mum a call. Tell her Iâm here with you guys, then maybe you can make a card or something for Pip. I bet sheâd love it.â You suggested.
Josh beamed at you as he quickly nodded and excitedly but quietly ran out of the room, making sure to close the door again on his way out. You chuckled softly. He was a good kid, and you loved how easy it was to keep him busy. You loved that he cared so much about his sister but you knew the best thing for Pip right now would probably be rest and sleep which would be tricky with a hyperactive kid in the room.
You looked down at Pip. Her eyes were still closed but her body still too tense to be asleep. With one hand still in her hair, you moved the other to rub her back when she shivered slightly and you also pulled the duvet a bit more snug around her.
âHowâre doing babe?â You murmured softly. Her response was a tired, miserable sounding groan as she buried her face further into your hoodie. You kissed her head. âIâm sorry, love. Is there anything I can do for you?â You asked but she shook her head right before her breath suddenly caught.
You felt her chest rapidly rise and fall against yours. âHuhhghâShchhuu! HhehShhhoo!â She quickly muffled two adorably sleepy sneezes against you before rubbing her nose with her hand and settling back down. âBless you.â You hummed, amused since it seemed like she hadnât noticed sheâs sneezed on youânot that you cared one bit.
Suddenly, you remembered the cold pack you had gotten earlier. Thankfully it was still ice cold so you placed it gently on her forehead. Pip let out a sigh of relief as she finally fell asleep. âJust rest now, baby. Iâll be here when you wake up.â You kissed her hair.
