why is this moth so underappreciated????

this is the pink belly moth, and they're ADORABLE

literally like rosy maple moths but their wing pattern is SOOOOO much prettier. Look at those colours??? That strip of yellow looks so pretty too. Show this boy some love :)

These are part of the geometridae family, one of my personal favourites :)

Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.

antler moths!! They get their name form the beautiful white pattern on their hindwings which looks like, you guessed it, antlers!

Somewhat unrelated but is it just me that ADORES brown/reddish brown + white colour scheme stuff, especially these kinds of bone/yellowish white tints <3

And as alwas with moths we get amazing antennae :)

Bug stickers!

They are like little sun sprites, motes of joy and determination made animate. I decorated their outworld like a magical desert. Here you see their annex nest (not their main home just an outpost) and the geode and branch they explore. I feed them on the jade dish, they neatly pile trash in the upper right corner for me to pick up. (Dorymyrmex bureni, the light brown cone ant)

Poor girl she bit the paint brush I use to help them to move and can’t seem to let go. I tried to help her by cutting the bristles off. But, I think her sisters should be able to help so I returned her, still clutching the bristles to the colony.

It seemed like a brave thing to do in the moment. Bite the evil paint brush and defend the colony! But it has gone all wrong.

A short video of the little brown ant holding the bristles in her mandibles. I gently lower her on to a sheet of graph paper and she runs away still holding the bristles.
