I am going back through my father’s slides again. Trying to make sense of all of them since there are thousands. And mainly because I found a great app that will easily scan them.

I ran across this one which I love. My mother made me and my older sister these hats to protect our hair from when we painted the house. I love my sister’s cockiness with her hand on her hip and her clashing plaids.

Ancient Wood, This well known friend stands at 10,000 (ish) feet, and lived through tens of hundreds of years. Hard, gnarled, and eroded by wind and time - it will stand for years more. Continuing with my slide scanning project - I am finding some gems. I shot this in 2004 with Fuji Velvia iso 50 - some folks called it "Disney chrome" because it was highly saturated, high contrast, with beautiful deep color. Una miniera di ricordi

Questa estate avrei tanto voluto tornare in Abruzzo per sviluppare lì - in una settimana o poco più di tempo - tutti quegli spunti e conoscenze acquisite in un anno di studi fotografici. Al Parco della Majella, vicino a Sulmona ove nacqui. Il Parco Lupo, che tanto mi sta a cuore. Purtroppo la famiglia e le ristrettezza economiche, più qualche altro colpo di sfortuna aggiunto mi tarparono le ali. Da settembre, però, mi è emersa dentro un desiderio di tornare a scattare a pellicola, oggi in questi digitali tempi. Ciò con un certo programma e obiettivo da raggiungere in mente (che vi racconterò con maggiore dettaglio più avanti), uno che richiederà acquisto di materiale e nuovi studi, nonché sperimentazioni.

Nel frattempo, però, che ritrovo un po’ di risorse per cominciare l’avvicinamento alla realizzazione di un tale Piano, mi sono ricordato di avere con me un bel po’ di diapositive che avevo fatto negli anni 90, quando scattavo con la mia Vivitar V2000, un parco ottiche che andava dal Vivitar 24mm f 2,8 MC, al Vivitar 50mm f 1,9 Kit, a un vecchio SEIMAR Tamron 80-200mm f 4-5,6. Non ricordo esattamente la pellicola usata. A naso, usavo quella più diffusa al tempo: una kodak a colori 100 ASA.

Così, già che la cosa principale che mi premeva era cominciare a sperimentare con la scansione di pellicole e dia con la mia K3, in un assetto controllato, beh, mi sono detto, perché non comincio ora a farmi la mano?

E poi, buona parte di quei vecchi scatti vengono da un viaggio preciso. Un viaggio epico: la mia vacanza per i 18 anni: svoltasi in due settimane nel luglio del 1992 - diverse vite orsono. Il luogo era il Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo Lazio e Molise ove abbiamo camminato, camminato, camminato, asceso, disceso, siamo sopravvissuti a una compagnia di scout molto poco simpatici, abbiamo fatto la fame, e a un certo punto ci siamo satollati come veri lupi appenninici.

Una fatica improba. Una Meraviglia Incalcolabile.

Meritava la digitalizzazione e la divulgazione questa storia, e ora è cominciata.

Certo, la tecnica di scansione con DSLR è certamente migliorabile, ma vedremo come e quanto riusciremo a migliorarci.

Now falsely painted as Reconnaissance aircraft type 31 (= S 31) in Swedish Air Force with fake markings 31051 / F11-51. In Flygvapenmuseum - Swedish Air Force Museum in Malmslätt outside Linköping, Sweden 19. July 1992. Slidescan. The aircraft is now moved to the new hangar.
