Slapface
Plot
Tom and Lucas lost their parents which leaves the adult Tom to take care of his little brother who keeps getting in trouble. On one of these trouble-causing excursions Lucas finds and befriends a mysterious witch-being who he connects with. Unfortunately this new connection has horrifying consequences for Lucas and the people he loves and hates.
Opinion
I'm a little torn because this is not a bad movie at all, i just personally didn't really dig where it was going and how it concluded. Which is a bit unfair because i was along for the ride, it had some pretty neat moments and i liked the witch! It's also well shot and the child actors are doing a great job. If you do like yourself a kinda monster movie with kids interacting with the creature you're certainly not doing anything wrong by giving this a watch! It's neat for sure.

The title Slapface suggests a dumb horror flick like Slender Man or The Bye Bye Man; fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. This atmospheric, intriguing film written and directed by Jeremiah Kipp is the antithesis of a Dead Teenager Movie.

Renegade by Devout Coffee, 37324 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536
Renegade just took over the Slapface Coffee space. It’s an interesting two-story building that used to be a bank. People in this area seem to really be looking for a place to camp. The place was packed even though they don’t have wi-fi and parking is a challenge. But the seating design also reduces the number of available spaces.
They have pastries (croissants, muffins, cinnamon roll, cookies) and a few made to order food options: toast, pastrami sandwich. For drinks, they have espresso drinks, cold brew, pour over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. They roast their own coffee beans.
Order at the counter and get a number. They’ll bring your food to you.
Crunchy avocado toast ($10): Small but thick piece of toast, lightly toasted, with avocado mash, salsa seca (seemed like a combo of chili crisp, nuts, seeds), cilantro, and lemon. Looks like they made the salsa seca themselves. The bread was high quality and they were generous with the toppings. The salsa seca is good but too salty.
Cappuccino ($5): nice foam art, good balance of milk foam and espresso, well made
I was pleasantly surprised by the upscale vibes. I like how you can hang out upstairs. They have smaller tables upstairs. The color scheme is black with natural wood accents. The seats are not padded.
However, the music is crazy loud and there are too many lights (very bright inside). I came early and could not find a space in the parking lot. There’s two hour street parking across the street and a parking lot that charges a $3 flat rate.
It might be tough to find a seat if you come after 10 AM. They close early too (2 PM).
The food is cooked in a trailer in the parking lot.
4 out of 5 stars

This atmospheric, intriguing film written and directed by Jeremiah Kipp is the antithesis of a Dead Teenager Movie, and while it revolves around a supernatural element, its true, underlying horror is sadly quotidian.
