“Oh hey... took you long enough, B,” Faith groaned, holding her tender side as she sat against the wall of an alleyway. Her knuckles were split and bleeding, and she had a bruise blossoming on her cheek. No way was she gonna die or anything, but it was definitely not her most reassuring look. “Sorry, I tried to save some of the fun for you. Definitely thought that demon was a one slayer job, but he got away and I’m not hot on chasing him.”

"Very  well.  I  do  understand,  though  I  hoped  it  would  not  reduce  to  that."  She  is  in  a  city  full  of  vampires  and  creatures  who  would  rather  have  a  Slayer  good  and  gone.  Most  of  them  are  in  the  dark,  but  there  is  a  certain  mystique  and  darkness  around  Slayers  that  he  had  learned  to  pick  through  the  centuries.  He  inevitably  brushes  off  the  commanding  tone  she  is  offering  in  the  moment,  simply  taking  on  what  she  is  saying,  hands  now  laying  on  his  lap,  holding  a  cup  delicately  on  his  fingers.  Whatever  it  is  of  blood  or  hot  tea,  he  wil  lsimply  not  vocalized  it  for  her  sake.  

"Matters  in  New  Orleans  have  to  be  resolved  discretely,  an  uprising  is  not  what  my  family  desires.  These  rogue  vampires  are  just  lackeys  of  a  higher  power.  My  sister  Freya  is  currently  searching  their  power  source.  She  is  a  witch."  Elijah  is  quick  to  add  up  as  not  a  lot  of  people  know  of  Freya  as  well,  or  that  unlike  the  rest  of  the  family,  she  is  not  immortal.  The  matter  of  his  niece  is  not  discussed  either,  for  his  sake  and  everyone  else's.  "New  Orleans  is  shaped  by  a  system  of  factions.  Some  above  others,  as  my  brother  would  have  you  see  it."  And  Elijah  would  rank  his  family  higher  on  the  hierarchy  but  that's  just  his  ego  getting  the  best  of  him.

 Hazel  gaze  settles  on  her  then,  a  smile  gracing  his  lips,  amused  at  best.  "Vampires,  Werewolves,  Witches  and  most  recently,  a  selective  faction  of  Humans.  Unfortuntely,  I  cannot  offer  you  a  tour  visit.  Most  creatures  here  are  wary  of  a  Slayer.  We  might  be  the  monsters  of  your  nightmares,  Miss.  Summers  but  I  assure  you,  Slayers  are  the  monsters  in  everyone  else  in  this  city."  Slayers.  Made  to  specifically  hunt  them  and  kill  them,  with  strength  and  skill  just  as  powerful  as  their  own,  she  was  the  stuff  of  nightmares.

ㅤㅤㅤWELL, THIS IS CERTAINLY MORE CIVIL THAN SHE'S USED TO, BEING INVITED TO A DISCUSSION INSTEAD OF ATTACKED IN THE STREETS. Despite her years as a Slayer, she can't say that she's had very many business meetings with vampires. But these don't seem like your run-of-the-mill, demon-possessed vampires, either; the kind that were typically less careful and more likely to cross paths with the Slayer. No, there's something different about this family. ❝ Better safe than sorry. I'm sure you understand, ❞ Buffy twists the stake in her hand, examining it as casually as she would a fresh manicure. Might not kill, but maybe it could still hurt, if needed. Of course, she doesn't voice that thought out loud.

ㅤㅤㅤBuffy takes the empty seat in front of her, legs crossing as her arms fold over her lap. She can't help but feel like a lion in a wolf's den; not powerless, but certainly not the one in control here. Her younger self would have been eager to get out of here as fast as she can, but experience has tempered that impulsiveness of hers. ( Well . . . most of it. ) ❝ If these rogue vampires have been active enough recently to get my attention, then maybe there's a flaw in your system. One that I highly recommend you and your family fix. ❞ A spike in activity is what drew her here, after all. NOLA has a reputation, but it was more neutral ground than anything. If the supernatural folks don't go around slaughtering people, the Slayer doesn't bother them. And if this family really is as old and powerful as he claims, then clearly they aren't the ones responsible for the abrupt change in status quo. ❝ Look. I'm a supporter of ethical vampirism as much as the next girl. But the fact is, I can't trust this ❛ system ❜ if you don't show me how it works. Not when there are fresh bodies in the morgue. ❞ // @dethtale @ealiyah

"I  can  assure  you,  Miss.  Summers,  we  pose  no  threath  to  you.  As  long  as  you  are  under  my  watchful  eye,  no  vampire  will  try  and  harm  you  or  your.  .  .gang."  A  Slayer.  In  a  thousand  years  he  has  not  crossed  many  of  them.  His  brother  had  managed  to  take  one  or  two  through  history  but  they  were  smarter  to  just  avoid  them  for  everyone's  sake.  "And  while  I  see  you  came  prepared,  a  stake  would  not  suffice  to  kill  me  or  my  family."  Only  one  type  of  weapon  could  do  such  thing  and  they  were  currently  in  the  possesion  of  it.  If  anything,  if  she  tried  to  take  him  down  and  ruin  his  suit,  then  perhaps  he  would  decide  a  fight  was  worth  their  time.

 "But  I'm  afraid  we  will  not  pack  out  things  or  leave.  We  helped  built  New  Orleans  and  even  a  Slayer  much  like  yourself  must  be  aware  that  it's  a  haven  for  supernatural  creatures."  Most  of  them  ignore  the  existence  of  the  Slayer.  Myths,  just  like  his  own  family  were.  So  there  they  were,  myth  to  myth.  Elijah  adjust  himself  on  his  chair,  lips  curving  into  a  knowing  smile.  "We  have  a  system  here  that  avoids  hurting  innocent  lives.  Sure,  we  have  a  few  rogue  vampires  but  I  can  assure  you,  they  are  punished  for  their  actions."

“I guess, in a way, you’re asking me to shut your mouth, huh?” Faith smirked, plastering a wicked grin across Buffy’s typically demure features. Her eyes were ringed with dark liner and her lips were a deep red- yeah, it usually looked better on the brunette slayer’s complexion, but it was a small sacrifice to make to be in Buffy’s body. “Why? Is it hard to take a good, long look at yourself from across the aisle? You don’t like being awful little Faith Lehane?”

"THE  FORCES  OF  DARKNESS  COULD  GIVE  US  A  LITTLE  BREAK  ONCE  IN  A  WHILE."  But  he  knows  better  than  most  that  those  never  really  quit,  or  take  a  vacation.  So  he  learned  to  enjoy  the  little  times  they  get  in  between  apocalypses  and  end  of  the  world  events.  "We  are  in  LA,  i'm  sure  we  could  find  both  in  a  very  trendy  but  hipster  bar."  Angel  allows  himself  to  smile  more  when  she  is  around,  simply  because  she  doesn't  let  him  dwell  too  much  on  his  gloomy  self.  He  can  be  all  the  gloom  he  wants  once  she  leaves.  "Hopefully  they  won't  interrupt  another  date.  It's  very  rude."

ㅤㅤㅤ❝ IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE IT'S BEEN JUST US. ❞ She's sure that both of them spend more time working alone these days. Well, when it comes to the dirty work, at least. They have their helpers, but they tend to be a little on the fragile side in the more physical situations. Unlike them. Being in LA, staying in Angel's apartment so she could be closer to her mini slayer, it's the most comfortable Buffy has felt in a long time. ❝ It's makin' me a little nostalgic. All we're missing is some evil overlord threatening a hostile takeover and some indie music. ❞

eventually,   it   was   bound   to   happen,   one   way   or   another.   they   can   be   professional,   they   can   keep   distance   and   keep   it   to   work   only.   but   there   are   moment,   fleeting   ones   in   which   the   mask   falls   down   and   the   adrenaline   kicks   in,   that   feeling   he   has   only   with   her.   the   voice   inside   his   brain   telling   him   to   forget   about   the   consequences,   soul   be   damned.   i   want   to   take   comfort   in   you   and   i   know   it   would   cost   me   my   soul,   and   a   part   of   me   doesn't   care.   and   it   didn't.  

after   a   fight,   after   all   it's   said   and   done   and   they   would   have   to   take   their   own   parts   away,   the   rational   part   of   his   brain   tells   him   to   leave   now,   no   goodbyes,   like   the   first   time.   but   he   can't,   because   her   eyes   are   looking   at   him   and   the   mixture   of   her   stare   and   the   scent   of   blood   (   she   cut   herself,   and   he   can   smell   it   in   the   air,   remember   the   taste   of   her   ),   angel   is   too   weak   to   pull   away.   instead,   he   dives   deeper   into   the   moment,   crashing   his   lips   into   her   own   in   a   soaring   kiss.   hands   wrapping   around   her   body,   pulling   her   close,   missing   the   pressure   of   her.

SHE   ISN'T   SURE   IF   HER   DAD   WAS   ABLE   TO   SEE   PAST   HER   AS   HIS   LITTLE   KID.   Sam   isn't   sure   she   wants   him   to   though,   even   if   she   does   want   that   distance   all   teenagers   want.   She   likes   being   Daniel   LaRusso's   daughter,   the   one   who   chops   prices   and   does   karate   and   the   Valley   seems   to   adore,   but   there   was   a   weight   to   it   that   she   didn't   realize   until   the   tournaments   became   part   of   her   life.   Being   a   Slayer   could   be   her   own   thing,   because   they   taught   her   about   it,   but   it   was   something   they   could   never   understand   fully.   "But   you   have   gotten   hurt   before.   I   heard   about   it."   Stories   of   Buffy   Summers   are   known   around.   So   are   Faith   Lehane.   Sam   isn't   sure   if   she   can   repeat   this   cycle   with   Tory   Nichols   again   now   that   both   of   them   are   Slayers.   "How   did   you   knew   it   was   worth   it?   The   fight?"

ㅤㅤ❝ OH, GILES? I'M PRETTY SURE I KICK-STARTED HIS MID-LIFE CRISIS. ❞ He did seem a little more lost at first when she graduated. He had no job, no library to tend to, and he wasn't technically her watcher anymore. College put somewhat of a wall there. A lot of things she had to deal with on her own, especially at first, because seeing him at school every day wasn't an option anymore. But he was still there. Always ready to help if she asked. At first she'd thought that growing up meant doing things alone, but part of actually growing up was realizing that's not exactly the case. Not entirely. ❝ But he got used to it, and he was still there for me. Once he accepted that I wasn't the same little girl anymore, it got easier, and him giving me that room to grow up made us stronger instead of pushing us apart. ❞ It was good that her father and grandfather had spent so much time preparing her for this. But those duties can get oh so strenuous. Over time, it wears on you. Buffy never had the option to put it all down, neither did Faith, but that doesn't mean that this next generation can't have a better future and decide for themselves. It's not like they're lacking in numbers anymore, albeit talent is a different story. ❝ If you decide you don't want to be a Slayer, then you just don't. And you tell your parents that Buffy Summers personally gave you a permanent hall pass so you never have to pick up a weapon again. Let someone else choose the fight; someone that wants it. If your heart's not really in it, then that's just going to get you hurt. ❞
