Combined 2 current interests: Skyrim and Too Human.
Here's Heimdall's (mis)adventures in another viking-themed world. Considering how Too Human's cyberspace/virtual reality lore works, this might as well be canon.

here are my biggest gaming hot takes:
- no game actually needs to run faster than 30 FPS
- no texture needs to be bigger than 2k, and most don’t need to be bigger than 1k (save for megatextures). A good chunk should actually be smaller than 1k
- lower poly counts > high poly counts
Once you pass a certain threshold, it doesn’t even affect the style of the game that much, and you’re just using exponentially more power to get exponentially smaller results
Like, for example, the original Skyrim was 4 GB. The remaster is 22 GB. That’s five-and-a-half times more space for the exact same content! The graphical improvements are honestly negligible, especially when you consider the massive leap in storage and RAM used.
Tumblr media
These sorts of things just hit diminishing returns so quickly— My eyes can’t tell the difference between 1k and 4k textures.
Tumblr media
We have so many fun ways to get the maximum mileage out of every pixel and every polygon. It’s sad to see those techniques slowly trickle away from big-budget games!
Even as storage space becomes less and less of a concern, there’s something satisfying about keeping everything as small and tidy as possible
Edit: I get it, guys. You disagree with the framerate point. I can hear you

Recently released a Skyrim mod that at this point I have put a ridiculous amount of time and effort towards, Diverse Dragon Priests! It adds a huge amount of variation to Dragon Priests including 35 new custom made models, HQ 4K textures, and multiple options and compatibility patches to make sure it works in as many people's load orders as possible <3 https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/105519

Skyrim Mod Recs: RaceMenu Addons
Overlays
If you want a little more subtle details for your characters' faces or some additional sliders, or just QoL, these are my favorites.
Adds HQ textures for Vanilla warpaints and also adds them to RM as Makeup, so you can stack them / use them for other races. It also has refitted warpaints, so you can use Argonian/Khajiit paint on humans and vice versa!
Genuinely a must-have for me, adds a lot of options for freckles, moles, rosacea, birthmarks, and eyebags. Female only*
Really new, but adds Makeup options for eye bags, moles, freckles, pores, flush, and some light face hair options.
Like it says on the tin. Female only*
Adds a variety of undereye circles for males and females. Works really well as a mostly paired with Lamenthia's eyebags.
Adds some nice options for vitiligo.
Freckles, moles, birthmarks and more.
Covers a spectrum of makeup styles. Grab this fix while you're at it. Female only*
More of the above mod. Female only*
Awesome patches that add male support for several of the above mods and more.
Freckle Mania 2
Technically only an LE mod, but works fine for SE. Who doesn't want more freckles options?
Sliders
Expressive FaceGen Morphs (or High Poly Head with EFM)
Adds so many sliders, absolutely awesome for breaking out of the generic, limited Skyrim facial features without sculpting.
ECE Ear Shape Sliders for RaceMenu
More sliders for ears, helpful for making them more prominent.
LeeLooMinai's RaceMenu Sliders Addon
Adds a slider for female for some new ear shapes and nostril adjustments. Requires High Poly Head.
QoL
Stand Still in RaceMenu (OAR)
Stop your character from wiggling so much.
Another RaceMenu Rotation Mod
🎶You spin me round baby right round right round, like a record baby🎶
RaceMenu - Improved Character Light
Little less harsh, little more natural lighting

ey. ey you. person with skyrim installed on their pc. you got mod recommendations? mod guides even?
i don't want like 4k texture replacement things or complete mechanic overhauls or anything just things that would be fun/make your life easier or clothes or something. im looking at wabbajack stuff but i find the sheer amount of things that they also bundle in to be. not ideal.
i accept like giant overhauls if only for winterhold + college of winterhold MAYBE bard's college. i got se and i may be willing to shell out for ae cus steam card. idk. my first skyrim

genuinely what is the appeal of 4k/ultra HD textures in a game like skyrim or ts4. what could you possibly be doing that requires you to look at things that closely on a mid-poly mesh with a stylized texture. what is the point.
sometimes things that are higher resolution and sharper and more detailed. are worse.

how does the Oblivion Remake work?
HI YES SO this is all speculation. i haven't looked at anything online apart from confirmation that it's the gamebryo engine for the programming and unreal engine for the rendering/graphics so there's probably a better explanation out there maybe??
but yesyes the way the remake works is that the coding/programming is all done on the gamebryo engine,, and UE handles visuals, so it's basically gamebryo telling UE 'hi render this here' and UE does that. it looks like it's the original code with a big update (esp with levelling) from how the file structure is internally and the fact that the only console commands/cheats that work are from oblivion? like 'newer' cheats from skyrim/fallout 4/starfield don't work when put into the console. (unfortunately, any cheats related to visuals, like 'tm' for toggle menu or 'tlb' for ambient lighting don't work, since UE is the renderer)
also now i understand why virtuos always had offers for technical artists for a few years, it was to bridge the two engines together 😭 OH SPEAKING OF TECH ART. i'm pretty sure it's also the same map? most games' maps are generated/stored as a heightmap, like this one
Tumblr media
white = peaks, black = valleys/water
from how the terrain is extreme in game, it's very likely they kept the same height map from 2006, and refined what needed to be refined (navmesh, weird fucky spots, more rocks, more vegetation). i'm not sure how vegetation and terrain paint was handled in the original game, but in unreal engine, it's just a matter of loading a new texture or mesh over the previous one, and everything will be kept in the same place but just updated (eg: you place a temporary cube to see where the grass will be, then replace that mesh in three clicks with grass, and all the cubes will be updated to grass). my proof is uhhh this. taken from reddit (from u/numerouswishbone1758). the trees are in the same spot/formation which is neat :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think that this remake is a really smart way of going at it, because it's like updating a pc kind of? the internals are kept, given a little update and a clean-up, but in a fresh new case :)
the only gripe i have is the storage space BUT there is literally 16 times the detail (going from 1k textures to 4k, which are both extreme examples but present in the files) which takes a lot of space (dds files are already compressed) . back then storage space was limited to a disk, but now? it's all virtual baby who cares about physical storage limits. and i also dont like how dry humanoids look in this. either they didn't use a roughness map and set the roughness to 1, OR they used UE's skin material which would make sense i mean the thing is right there. might as well use it. ngl i think that starfield's graphics would've worked well for oblivion, since it's realistic but stylised enough to not be uncanny? and og oblivion is cartoony so it would've merged well but all is good and fine :)

i downloaded LE again just to like. sit and experience completely vanilla skyrim and i like to think my computer got scared when it was like seeing the skyrim.exe start to boot up. like it was just going oh christ not again. rev up the fans we’ve got some 4k textures and enb lighting to struggle to display. and then it just boots up instantly bc it’s unmodded base skyrim and the computer just looks around. head spinning like a cartoon character who thought a big metal bomb with a fuse was about to explode

Does anybody have all of Skyrim Realistic Dragon Texture Overhaul 2K-4K/4K-8K mod (uploaded by frozunswaidon) including the optional files for other mods such as Bellyaches New Dragon Species, Deadly Dragons, Dragon Lords v3, Jills of Akatosh, Wyrmstooth and possible other files? I didn’t get a chance to download them because the mod author was banned. I really like this mod so I really appreciate it if someone out there has all of the files including the optional ones.
The link to the mod was this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58461/?

I have like many questions, one what the fuck is texture streaming, I have seen hd texture packs and mods use not that much. Like Audio being the bulk of a game makes since, audio files with many options can get pretty big, But textures? like why should I be online for a single player campaign that is only 2 hours long? (lets be honest they are short)
This is worst than the massive gigs a FIGHTING GAME had.
like I have seen modders who do hd and 4k texture packs for skyrim be less than this...
again what the fuck is texture streaming

Serana's Vampiric Power
Plain pure black background. Serana from Skyrim wearing lore-accurate vampire armour, standing in a confident, powerful stance. Her arms are extended outward, each hand holding a glowing red blood-spell orb, with red sparks crackling around them. The pose is based on a confident, open posture, with her hands out to the sides, palms facing slightly upward, similar to a summoning or magical casting pose. Her long, flowing, layered black hair cascades naturally, with soft, face-framing bangs. A subtle braid or a small, elegant bun is woven into her hair, adding complexity without disrupting the flowing style. The hair has a dark, rich colour, subtly catching the red glow from the spell. Her face is an accurate and highly detailed representation of her in-game appearance, with sharp, defined features that are true to her game model. She has striking, deep purple eyes that are intense and captivating, but not glowing. Serana's head is tilted slightly upwards, her expression fierce and furious, with her lips parted wide to reveal sharp, elegant fangs. Her gaze is intense, filled with rage, and her fangs are clearly visible, adding to her vampiric and dangerous appearance. Her pale, flawless skin is softly illuminated by the warm, vivid red glow from the two blood-spell orbs, which cast dramatic highlights across her face, neck, and armour. The lighting enhances the natural contours of her face, highlighting the fury in her expression and the sharpness of her fangs. The vampire armour is form-fitting and elegant, with subtle, intricate silver patterns that add a touch of sophistication without being overly revealing. This refined design maintains a sense of gothic beauty, true to her vampire heritage. The glowing red blood-spell orbs in each hand are the primary light sources, casting a warm, vivid red glow on her face, hair, and armour, creating a realistic, dynamic contrast against the pure black background. The red light subtly reflects on her skin, creating a soft, warm hue on her cheeks, nose, and neck. Her purple eyes reflect the red light subtly, giving them a hint of depth and emotion without glowing. The sparks from the orbs are bright, dynamic, and clearly visible, with each spark maintaining a sense of energy and movement. The orbs and all sparks should be fully visible within the frame, without any cropping. Cinematic red rim-lighting outlines her entire figure, adding depth and drama, subtly interacting with the black background without harsh edges. The entire figure of Serana, including her outstretched arms, the glowing orbs, and all the sparks, is fully visible within the frame. The composition should maintain perfect proportions, avoiding any squashing or distortion. 3D digital art. Ultra-detailed, HD 4K image, with a focus on sharp textures, realistic hair physics, and lifelike lighting. 720p resolution, perfectly blending into a 1920x1080 black background without any visible edges or artefacts. The image should balance elegance, fury, and mystique, highlighting Serana's beauty while maintaining her characteristic intimidation, quiet, yet powerful presence, and her unmistakable vampire nature.

Her pale, flawless skin is softly illuminated by the warm, vivid red glow from the two blood-spell orbs, which cast gentle, natural highlights across her face, neck, and armour. The lighting enhances the natural contours of her face, highlighting her beauty and mystique. Gothic UI Design Elements: The frame should be enhanced with gothic UI design elements, featuring ornate, silver and black decorative borders in a gothic style, with intricate baroque patterns, twisting vines, and subtle arcane symbols. These elements should frame the top and bottom of the screen without obstructing Serana. The corners should have decorative silver accents, with small gothic spikes and filigree that wrap elegantly around the edges. Subtle, transparent gothic runes or arcane symbols should be faintly visible in the background, swirling gently around the frame without overpowering Serana's figure. A faint, dark, misty aura should hover around the edges, adding a sense of dark magic and mystery. 3D digital art.
