241013 • Frauki („The Frog“)

I‘m in a bit of a hyperfixation relating to Norse/Viking artworks. I recently bought a book about the topic and I can‘t stop looking at it. The animals typically depicted are dragons, wolves, horses and similar, but I‘m currently trying to design some other animals that I think would be cool in this style.

These are four versions Frauki, The Frog. Or actually two different designs and one comes in three versions.

White on Green is a different design, but only slightly. The hips, chest and the feet are a bit different.

The other three are the same design, only different outline/colour combinations.

Tbh I‘m such a fan.. I hope the hyperfixation doesn‘t fade too quickly, because I wanna try insects and more complex designs.

I do already have one more, it‘s a bit more complex but it‘s frogs again. I love frogs and toads, that‘s why :D

✨ sewing project of the weekend

i bought the pattern on etsy and the fabric in my local fabric shop. unfortunately they didn‘t have them in black so i sewed the piece and then dyed it. The bodice part ended up charcoal and the whole dress looks charcoal in the photos but it‘s a bit darker irl.

the main fabric is a nice linen and cotton blend, really soft and i think it‘s gonna be cozy for the autumn and winter.

i really like how it turned out 🍂🪨✨

New Version of „Arwen of Rivendell“ ♡

It was so amazing to make this. I like the process of getting to know the mediums. When I started I didn‘t really know how to paint the rivendell part, but when it came to that I just went for it and it kind of worked out. Physical mediums are so fun to work with. And I find myself embracing the imperfections ♡

And it always comes out a little differently than you think because the colours, the brush strokes thar can‘t be redone, the color blends and bleeds and the pencil strokes always have a little bit of an unexpected uniqueness to them. Love it, it makes a picture look more alive imo. Much more than a digital brush of calculated pixels where, if it‘s not *perfect* you can tap and redo it within seconds.

it seems i‘ve entered another art slump! i‘m being kind to myself about it (i used to feel like a talent- and energyless failure when that happened in the past, also I have adhd) and i notice that instead i read books and sew clothes and stuff like that. always creating, always doing stuff ♡ ♡

so instead, please enjoy a piece i drew last year.

arwen undomiel and rivendell. i‘d love to draw a similar piece for Eowyn this year, but maybe a bit different as well. we‘ll see.

recent digital drawing that i did. i‘ve had the idea for a long time and actually started with rowena. it‘s been sitting in my sketches for months until i rediscovered it and thought it would actually make for a really cute little portrait series. i‘m going to post the other founders soon as well. when i reopen my etsy shop i think i will offer these as prints or post cards.

Totoro Fanart ♡

“Trees and people used to be good friends“ - india ink and watercolor on bristol paper.

I spent almost the whole day painting in the sunshine outside in our garden ♡ Didn‘t know how it would turn out but absolutely love the result.

I recently stopped using my iPad for creative purposes and instead got a bunch of traditional art mediums. I got Holbein watercolors, Caran d‘Ache crayons and pen + ink. Every time I create something I do it in a different way - I feel like I still have to find the best and most fitting approach, thus experimenting is the best way.

When I began this drawing I planned on painting it entirely in pen & ink, to get to know the medium a bit better. But when the lines were done it felt wrong, it felt like the image needed all kinds of green. Digitally, I could‘ve gone both ways without any loss. I could use premade brushes to achieve desired effects and undo everything I didn‘t like. Here, I had to decide: color or no color? There‘s only one or the other. I also couldn‘t undo it when I ended up not loving the middle part of the tree foliage. I‘m living with it, I think it turned out fine. Love the rest, though! Traditional art and the feeling it leaves me with is next level.

I‘ve stopped redrawing my digital designs of the tarot cards but I want to continue soon, and also draw more new ones. This is only the third of them and if I want to haw a whole deck I obviously need 78 xD oh well, we‘ll see.

But I love love love how watercolor paint looks. Why did I never realize that before?? It‘s so vibrant and kind of translucent and soo pretty. This dark blue…love it.

Skyggsja Lenormand Tarot

some kind souls in this platform have been asking me for years whether this tarot deck is finally finished, and unfortunately it isn‘t. Yesterday I drew The Snake, today I was really inspired and drew The Heart, The Mice and The Key. I still love the aesthetic, and honestly, they look so much cooler drawn in traditional media than digitally. I left the titles away because they are more simply added digitally, plus if I ever end up finishing and selling the deck I could offer it in more than one language.

i really hope that i will be able to overcome this frustrating creative block and just create as I used to a couple of years ago.

🪶 painting over a stain that i couldn‘t wash out of my shoe. we‘ve got a swallow‘s nest above our living room window and i always see them soaring through the sky. absolutely love that view and it inspired me to fix my shoe with a blob of paint.
