I did do both colors. Felt like someone would be disappointed if I didn't. But I did really want to explore the idea of the purified SkullKnightmon becoming DarkKnightmon again, and what that would look like. Weirdly, because of how predominant SkullKnightmon is to the combination, the colors work surprisingly well.

Next we move onto some new designs. I've got some ideas for how the next partner is going to look, but it definitely needs some ironing out.

So SkullKnightmon had a Black Purple card before this but we finally get DeadlyAxemon and DarkKnightmon. This also mean every major Digimon in the Twilight faction has a Black & Purple card:

And to preemptively correct any misunderstanding, Mervamon isn't considered a member Twilight despite being recognized as Nene's secondary partner due to her debut occurring after Twilight as a faction split and was effectively dissolved & absorbed into Xros Heart and the Bagra Empire

A pretty evil Digimon that values winning above all else, even if it is achieved through nefarious means. The only Digimon SkullKnightmon could call a “friend” is Deadly Axemon (Axemon in the dub), but it’s more of a master and servant type of relationship.

I 3d printed this skullknightmon deck box for digimon tcg!

I originally tried to use the model with the window in the front introduced to me by @senpai-tankard but it acted funky in the slicer, so I settled for this model and pasted a picture I made by coloring black and white vpet sprites on the front.

I'm happy with how it turned out 😁

On top of the Appmon mentioned above and since the Headless Horseman was mentioned: While they aren’t outright confirmed to be so; SkullKnightmon and DeadlyAxemon, specifically their Fusion Cavalier Mode, and to a lesser degree their DNA Digivolution DarkKnightmon might be drawing from the Dullahan, specifically the Japanese depiction of it as a knight:

halloween digimon

listing off all the digimon i can think of that would fit in a halloween themed piece, feel free to comment suggestions if i'm missing any. (tho note i'm trying to stick to classics, of course anything could be appropriate as a costume) digimon names are in the alt text of their images, if you're curious and i didn't type it out elsewhere. all images are straight from wikimon.net, not my own art.

first, the classic trio from digimon world next order; boltmon (frankenstein's monster), black weregarurumon (the wolfman), and vamdemon/myotismon (dracula)

kind of sad mummymon was left out of their group! and pharaohmon also sort of fits the mummy vibe but i ran out of image slots.

ghosts are another classic but if you aren't restricting yourself to the sheet look, there's some options; bakemon (the classic sheet ghost), ghostmon (a slightly more serious eastern take), aaand...

phantomon kind of fits, being a 'phantom' and all, tho is also a grim reaper-esque figure (especially metal phantomon)

of course there's quite a few demons/devils, but devimon, boogiemon (the boogie man? but he looks very classic devil), and demon (yes it's literally just demon/daemon except for the dub where it's creepymon) are the most obvious picks for the role imo.

some skeletal dudes that don't fit well anywhere else but are very spooky, skull satamon and zanbamon (the closest thing we have to a headless horseman digimon)

of course jack-o-lanterns are also very appropriate, so pumpkinmon and its evolved form, noble pumpkinmon, are a necessity;

pumpkins bring to mind scarecrows and scarecrows bring to mind crows, which all also fit, so;

black cats and witches are another classic, and i would love to include wizardmon, who is technically also a witch from witchelny, but wizards aren't really halloweeny and i ran out of image slots.

another spooky creature that halloween wouldn't be the same without is the spider, so dokugumon and arachnemon should be here.

those are all the most 'halloween' characters i can think of, but there's some others that fit some common costume picks but aren't exactly spooky normally-

pirates for one;

and i can't exactly mention 'captain hookmon' without mentioning petermon (peter pan)

and of course i can't mention pirates without mentioning their arch rival, the ninja

little red riding hood and the big bad wolf are another classic costume combo;

and some people think clowns are pretty horrific so

aaand i ran out of image slots :'D i would probably have also added literal satan (lucemon falldown and satan mode), some cowboys (deputymon), and some gargoyles (gargoylemon/gargomon and devidramon) if i had space. maybe also skull meramon (ghost rider) and dragomon (cthulhu) or even puppetmon (pinochio)

I feel like there isn't a ton to say about this design at the moment? It's an armored knight bird to match SkullKnightmon and DeadlyAxemon. Like, the wings are weird because of transformation stuff. That's about it. Onto the weird Lv4.5 form.

It’s important to keep in mind two things:

1) Digimon has historically had two major designs aesthetics: The first is what I call the Gwar style:

Heavily detailed, deliberately grotesque regardless of moral alignment and rooted in 90s comic design and then you have the Tokusatsu style:

Potentially as detailed as the Gwar style but much cleaner, more modern looking, toyetic and, as the name implies, looks like it could appear in live action as a costume like you see in Kamen Rider or Super Sentai/Power Rangers

These two aesthetics exist on a spectrum which leads to my second point:

2) Which of the aforementioned aesthetics a Digimon design leans toward is dependent on the nature of the Digimon and the media they are appearing in. For example DarkKnightmon, the Digimon I used as an example for the Toku style, as well as Shoutmon X7 above are both fusions with DarkKnightmon's components being SkullKnightmon and DeadlyAxemon:

And Shoutmon X7 being composed of OmegaShoutmon, ZeigGreymon, Ballistamon, Dorulumon and Starmons:

Now X7 is the more visibly chimeric of the two due to the fact that DarkKnightmon's nature as a Fusion was written as a surprise reveal thus his components are super complimentary designs compared to the almost haphazard design of X7

In general do not be afraid to go detailed: belts, veins, spikes, stitches, accessories and mechanical elements like cables are an easy way to add such detail

@sabedilemon is a wonderful designer for fan-made Digimon, especially Gwar style designs.

Design Issues

The thing with designing Digimon is that the art that I've studied the closest and know the most design philosophy of is usually basic, clean, and simple. Designs that are good for dynamic posing, a blank slate to modify when needed. (Sonic, MMBN, kinda Pokemon).

Then Digimon is, well, stuff like this.
