I was once again thinking about this post I made a couple chapters ago. Shima thinks mitsumi only sees him for his facade, but in chapter 41 mitsumi does in fact recognize his bad points and likes them too, she simply does not realize to what point shima is insecure and struggling, so she doesn't tell him this and prefers to highlight all those times he was genuinely saving her from his insecurities.

Whenever it comes to being vulnerable, Shima withdraws instead and "resolves" his feelings on his own . But as Mukai says, that attitude might come from a place of selflessness and insecurity and lack of self esteem, but it comes across to others as uncaring and cold hearted.

Shima has been led to believe through his abuse that he can't rely on others, or that that's a sign of his own weakness. But as we see on this chapter, if he is vulnerable with those who care about him, those people meet him where he's at and offer him the support he is asking for.

I just wish that Kodansha's K Manga service had an all-you-can-read subscription like Shonen Jump/VIZ and SquareEnix instead of pay-per-chapter 😔
