[AD] Be Naturally You #NaturalIsGlamorous 💖@hellobody_usa is redefining the rules of the beauty industry, offering everyday essentials that combine glamour, natural ingredients, and a socially-aware lifestyle. • Founded in Berlin, Germany in 2016, Their lines of Natural Skincare are for anyone looking for affordable skincare with natural ingredients. They manufacture everything in Germany, adhering to EU standards for beauty and cosmetics, and source sustainable ingredients and packaging. They also never test on animals 😌 #bunnyfreebeauty 🐰💖🌱 • I received a COCO WOW pink clay mask (and brush), ALOÉ TONIC exfoliator, and CARA RELIEVE toner. The clay face leaves my skin feeling so fresh and mattified. As someone with combination-skin I love when products remove excess oils in my trouble areas without being too overly drying. I use the exfoliator at night before putting on a layer of sleep mask/night cream, and I use the toner in the morning with a cotton pad (just ordered reusable ones recently to be more sustainable and environmentally-friendly) after cleansing and before moisturizer. I’ve seen a lot of improvement for my redness and in hydration. • Coco Line💗normal to dry skin, nourishing and cleansing products that supports skin every day in its regeneration • Aloé Line 💚 normal or dehydrated skin, hydrating and plumping treatments help achieve a naturally radiant complexion • Cara Line 💛normal or sensitive skin, strengthens and protects skin from harmful environmental factors thanks to its caring, soothing and antioxidant ingredients • #Questionoftheday ✨Which of these product lines is most appealing to you? • Use HBxHB for 30% off all products, but or Click the #linkinbio to get 30% automatically applied to your cart! • • • #hbthellobodyaugust #hbtsponsored #skinisskin #hbthellobodyjuly #clayfacemask #hellobodyusa #facemaskselfie #crueltyfreebeautyproducts #crueltyfreebeautyblogger #ctbloggerbabes #jcmodelsct #myjcstyle #ctmodel #ctblogger #skincaregoals #skincareobsessed #selfloveclub #selfcarematters #naturalskincareproducts #skincareview #skincareregimen #complimentary #lifestylebloggers #beautyinfluencer #crueltyfreebeauty #hbtblog (at Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/CD_3W4hpyBM/?igshid=f4xpdnlri1qy

🌈 Pride to the People 🌈 . If you’re in the market for a new cleanser, consider picking up this special #pride edition of the Superfood Cleanser from @youthtothepeople. Not only is it a bomb ass cleanser, but they’re donating the profits to @glsen, an organization that helps to create safe spaces for lgbtq+ youth in schools. . I whole-heartedly love and support YTTP and this collaboration just reinforces why. Although this cleanser was gifted by the brand, it is one that I have purchased, and will continue to purchase with my own money. . #youthtothepeople #glsen #pridetothepeople #skinisskin #loveislove #skinhasnogender #superfoodcleanser #yttp #skincare (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzV8dWkHm_m/?igshid=blc6xctvkuru

Now This.
So.
A young woman has a blog post on xojane.com responding to a documentary about dark-skin women and the tweet that caught my eye read, " I am sick of seeing women cry because of their dark skin"-yawn.
Ok. I am a dark-skin woman, with a dark-skin mother and a brown daughter and a love for brown skin. Of course I sympathize with the assholes and ignorant people that think its ok to put someone down because of their complexion and using the excuse of it not being beautiful or attractive to them in order to belittle and taunt a brown woman, or even worse-little girl.
However...
It is even more upsetting to me that this is an issue. The strange part is that it's only an issue in the black community. White people don't give a shit about your complexion because if you're African American, you're all in the same boat- (I'm not speaking for all white people but I am speaking from what I've been around and experienced...I can only respond to the world I know) the nigger boat? I don't know. I even learned from my in laws that there is so much pride, strength and beauty in Africans and their close knit relationship that they don't see color, they just see family.
Although I may come across an ignorant comment here and there glorifying the light-skin woman and making fun of the darker women, I don't experience hate against my complexion. I of course sympathize and get upset at the fact that women grow up with a complex and feeling insecure, unattractive and inferior just because of the color of their skin, but I don't understand it on a personal level. I grew up hearing I was pretty, smart, funny, and actually getting compliments on my skin tone rather than being teased about it. I've even gotten compliments from those outside of my race. I assumed all brown girls did!
I also remember not going out of the house until after the sun went down, not wanting to go to the beach or pool in the summer and fearing blemishes since that all made you look darker than your actual complexion. I liked my complexion, I just didn't want to get any darker. I guess that's kind of fucked up as well. It wasn't a big deal, or was it? Anyway.
It has to be more than that. It has to be more than a couple of dark-skin jabs, light-skin comparisons and brown girl tirades to completely fuck someone's self-esteem up and make them dislike themselves so much that they want to change the way they look.
Ironically, I read this the day after my cousin (who is extra black) looks at me and goes "you're dark", in a negative undertone. I was confused because I was tired and already annoyed so all I did was tell him to shut up and point out that he too was dark, very dark. I should've simply replied with a "thank you".
It wasn't a big deal but it did make me think about other people who may feel insecure about their dark skin and comments like that help create complexes. I swear I tell my daughter how beautiful she is everyday and how I love her brown skin, and her kinky hair and all of her-because I do, and I want her to as well.
Anyway, I'll share more of my thoughts after I check this documentary out. I heard it's more of a "poor little black girl" message than an uplifting positive outlook on women being proud of who they are, so that's annoying. We'll see.
