Surrounded by Ice - Kimi Raikkonen x FigureSkater! Reader
Plot: The Iceman just surrounds himself with Ice in every aspect of his life
A/N: Just a short little Kimi drabble, more exciting stuff coming soon, just been swamped with Uni!

"How does it feel to bring home a gold medal for your country, again?" the interviewer asks and a big grin appears on your face.
"I mean, i love the sport and I've worked hard to get where I am. I think this year there were many other contestants who also deserved gold and everyone who took part today were amazing!" you keep smiling, it had been a really amazing set for you today. You'd even broke some records while here.
"And now what is your plan?" they ask holding the mic closer to you.
"Well my husband is waiting for me, just over there. So i think he wants to give me his congratulations" you say pointing out our stoic looking husband who was waiting in the background, keeping to himself watching the world go past.
"Ah yes, Kimi Raikkonen! The Ice Man, who arguably married Queen of the Ice" he jokes making you laugh a little. You had heard similar jokes many times since you'd married Kimi.
"Yes, obviously being here in South Korea for the Winter Olympics has been amazing, and I'll be sure to train hard for 2022 but now I'm needed to go support my lovely lovely husband in his fast cars" you exclaim, knowing that the Australian Grand Prix was round the corner.
"Ah yes, it's looking like a good season for Ferrari! And we can tell from your outfit today they already have your support"
"My support is for whatever team my husband is in, so Ferrari have had my support since Kimi has raced with them!"
You left the interview thanking your team before finding Kimi waiting for you quietly.
"Home?" you ask and he nods silently grabbing your hand and pulling you out of the arena.
"You were fantastic today!" he smiles, holding you and pulling you into a kiss.
"Yeah? You liked the new twist i did?" you ask, your routine today being one of the hardest you'd ever done. You mascara had infact started to run, from the sweat building on your forehead throughout the day.
"I like everything you do"
You guys both went back to the hotel, packing up all of your gear that had been here for the past month you'd stayed in Korea for. Once you were sure you hadn't left anything behind you made your way to the airport.
Kimi now only had a month until Australia, his personal trainer had come with you to Korea to help him train while he was out there supporting you.
Now, you'd train while you were travelling with Kimi. Finding ice while on the road with him was always difficult, but finding places to just work out and keep your fitness up was never hard as you'd train alongside Kimi. It was one of the ways to spend extra time with him during the season when he was most busy.
In the free month before Australia you started your research on where you could go in Melbourne to skate, you found somewhere that Kimi was happy with you going too as it wasn't too far from the hotel you'd be staying in or the race track for if anything went wrong.
"Will you watch me on the Sunday though?" he'd asked you as you were both lying in bed the night before you were due to fly to Australia.
"When have I ever not?" you ask, turning over in bed to look at him.
"Hmmm, I can for sure think of one time..." he smirks looking over you.
"If your talking about China, almost 10 years ago that doesn't even count!" you laugh, poking his cheek a little.
Your husband never failed to amaze you, his striking blue eyes and his soft blonde hair was what initially drew you in. But it was your first interaction with him that made you fall for him fully.
It was the Autumn of 2008 and you were 22 and you had just won your second Gold Medal in China, you'd stayed there for the months after the games as they left the Beijing Olympic Park open and it seemed like a good place to stay and to train.
You managed to get tickets to other sporting events in the months you stayed there such as Snow Boarding, Golf but the best one was when the Chinese Grand Prix came about.
You were active on the socials you had back then, and so it wasn't hard for Sauber BMW to reach out to you and give you a guest pass.
You'd been walking round the paddock, just investigating when you'd bumped right into the Finnish Ferrari driver. He had just stared at you while holding a tight grip on your wrist so you didn't fall over.
You remember him asking if you were okay, and some other questions that you hadn't heard fully as your brain had gone foggy at the sound of his soft, yet deep voice.
It was a little embarrassing, when he'd tried to speak Finnish to you, and then decided on English, but with no reply he was left stumped and awkwardly standing there.
He'd soon left after that but you were on each other's minds for the whole day. You tried to keep up conversations with the BMW drivers Robert and Nick but your mind kept drifting the the Finnish Driver for Ferrari.
He found you after the race, and just stared at you for a while before you made the first move speaking to him. And the rest was history.
You spent the next 5 years together as partners, it was convenient for someone like Kimi who raced all through the year apart from summer and winter to end up with someone in a sport who only competed for a month in the summer and winter. It meant that they also still got a break with each other.
After 5 years, Kimi let the big question unload and now you'd been married for 5 years.
"Of course, my love! You know that!" you smile, pulling him closer to you. You tuck yourself into his surprisingly warm embrace, considering his nickname was 'Iceman' he was the warmest person you'd ever had the privilege of meeting.
"I was thinking ..." he breathes, his voice a little higher and whiny than normal.
"Mmmmm, you don't do that often?" you tease, a hand running up and down his back.
"Well, I'm the ice man, your the Ice Queen... i was thinking maybe it's time we have an Ice Baby?" he whispers in the softest most unsure tone you'd ever heard.
"You think now's a good time?" you ask, and thinking about it... it was. You yourself had two years before the next Olympics in 2020, and Kimi was at a point in his career where he could leave and live comfortably if he needed and wanted to.
"I haven't told you this, but they want the Sauber kid in my spot. I'll be going to Alpha Romeo next year. I feel like I've done what i can and I've had my time in the sport... and we aren't getting any younger. Especially me..." he jokes, being 44 now.
"Mmmmmm I think now is the perfect time" you smile.
Flash forward to the Austin Grand Prix and you were 6 months pregnant. You'd already announced it and so many people were excited for you and Kimi, through the season he had loads of interviews. All against his will of course but people saw a different side to him when he talked about you and the soon to be baby.
It was a great race for Kimi in Austin, he pulled through with his first win of the season, valuable points that helped contribute towards his position in the drivers standings.
"So Kimi, first win of the season today! How are you feeling?" an interviewer asks, he was sat in a panel with some of the other drivers in a debrief.
"It was good to get a win, this season has been tough. We've had an interesting year with veteran drivers like myself, Seb, Fernando and Lewis being pushed by newer or younger drivers who are proving to be good competition like Charles, Max and Pierre" he answers.
"There have been rumors that you wont be here with us next season?" he pushes and Kimi roles his eyes.
"If I'm not it's not an issue... racing is my hobby that i get paid to do. I'll leave when i want to" he admits without letting anything slip that Ferrari wouldn't want to come public knowledge.
"Lets move on to you Lewis..."
And for the rest of the interview all he could think of was coming back to you.
Once your daughter was born in January before the start of the 2019 season and Kimi moving to Alfa Romeo everyone on the grid wanted to meet her. So of course, you were obligated to come to Australia for pre-season testing. Your 3 month old being so intrigued at the busy rush of everything around her.
She was a fan and driver fav around. Everyone had a picture with her and introduced themselves as her uncle and that they would look after her. People like Lewis, Seb and Charles all came with little gifts for her, Seb even had someone make her a custom team Ferrari top so she could fit in with her father and her Uncle Sebastian.
"Today was amazing!" you sighed as you leaned into your husband who currently held your daughter against his bare chest.
"Mmmm, I think you should both take a break though, at least until Summer break and join me afterwards" he smiles, knowing that the heavy time change from Monaco to Australia wasn't good for your or the baby.
"Well, I may as well come to Bahrain with you... its on the way back. But I will leave after that" you smile, pulling him in for a kiss.
"I love you, thank you for giving me this life" he smiles looking between you and his daughter.
"I wouldn't have it any of way" you grin.

what is your comfort media? like a book, show, movie, a race ect.
this is such a fun question! here's an extensive list of media i like:
comfort book: Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion for sure, though i have been non-stop reading and re-reading Elif Batuman's Either/Or since it was released in 2022.
comfort anime: Cowboy Bebop (cool and interesting wow) and Haikyuu!! (quarantine mental illness)
comfort video game: Night in the Woods forever and ever. i also am a Disco Elysium player so... if anyone wants to talk about that with me, let me know.
comfort show: POSE. there's no contest at all, this could be the only thing i ever watch for the rest of my life and i would never complain.
comfort movie: Almost Famous or Skate Kitchen are both my babygirls for different reasons. i always leave them feeling like i need to become more cool and go out and do things with my friends.
comfort song: 'Gossamer Thin' by Conor Oberst was THE song for me when i was a teenager for unknown reasons, but i think 'Cloudbusting' by Kate Bush has been my top track on Spotify for three years straight now. so that one.
comfort album: i first discovered Phoebe Bridgers through the Killer EP, and then Stranger in the Alps came out in 2017 and irreparably changed the chemical makeup of my brain. Melodrama by Lorde is also up there, and more recently Comfort to Me by Amyl and the Sniffers.
comfort race: Brazil 2012!!! i rewatch it like every week and pretty much have the commentary memorized at this point. if you subscribe to F1 TV just to get access to the grand prix archive and only stream this race it's worth it imo.
comfort f1 video: the 2008 grid lip synching to 'Welcome to the Black Parade' by My Chemical Romance during their year-end montage. i've posted about it here.

Just looking at the scores across Next Gen, Ontario Sectionals and the Quebec competition and Junior Dance might just turn out to be the toughest, least pre-determined contest at nationals! The Canadian junior field was looking like a wasteland until the rule change. But Veillon/Brandys can make up almost all of what they lost to Nyugen/Giang at Next Gen by sorting out their paso and ditching that choreo lift in the FD that’s getting zero or negative GOE. Then Gauthier/Thieren did well in Quebec but weren’t scored as comparatively highly as I thought they might be. Cincon-Debout/Celestino have hugely improved - her posture! Tessa would approve! - that FD is stunning and will go down a storm with a crowd, and they were barely behind G/T in the free, which rather set the cat among the pigeons. Suddenly it’s looking like a real four way fight for only two world spots, and no team will get away with a bobbled twizzle. I guess we should just enjoy them while they’re still getting assignments before they all go senior and Skate Canada never gives them another opportunity again.
ooh i'm really excited about Canadian junior dance this season - it's true, the age rule keeping Nguyen/Giang in the field and bringing Gauthier/Thieren back gives some unexpected depth to the field. N/G i haven't seen live, though obvs they're one of the top contenders
Cincon-Debout/Celestino - their Artist FD is totally delightful - i love it. the fact that it's Jean-Luc Baker's is ❤️ this team are lovely performers, and i agree with you about her carriage. (it seems like many of the Montreal juniors have dance training, with more of the female partners with the willowy arms and the ballet back) - seeing them live vs on a stream highlighted that they skate kind of small - the relative lack of power and ice coverage does make a difference in the impact of the program live. so i'm curious to see how they'll be scored at their JGPs
Layla/Alex have the most beautiful skating and unison of the 4, i think. i hope they can capitalize on that by getting the key points on their paso. the reversed steps have been challenging for them. the ending of their FD is losing some energy (and goe) but hopefully will come together with a little more time. someone called it rolling knees - there are moments when they're in a step sequence where they're matching so completely and the way they're curving into the ice is mesmerizing
Gauthier/Thieren - they have maturity to their presentation. they tend to be inconsistent technically on steps/patterns and had worked hard at that in their Junior Worlds season 2022/23. but going senior last year, they didn't have to skate a pattern, and maybe now have to really work on that again. this Robin Hood program at the moment felt like it used S/D's Zorro program as the template - this one has bows and arrows instead of sword fighting in the ChSt, but the Bryan Adams slow song doesn't feel like it fits with the rest. there are a lot of things in presentation and in spins and lifts that they do well. something though doesn't connect for me - they hear the rhythm in the music, but it often looks like they're using it to time what they're doing rather than feeling it and expressing it

DAY 6 REVEALS
*❄️*
I'll Weather Any Storm With You
[David/Patrick - E - 16,190]
David and Patrick meet by the fireplace at a ski lodge and meet for dinner. After a dinner mishap, things look bleak until a winter storm comes in and David finds himself cold and alone... can he find someone to keep him warm on this cold, stormy night?
*❄️*
(Literally) Falling For You
[David/Patrick - E - 6,393]
When Patrick finds out how much David adores ice skating, he takes it upon himself to sign them up for a couples' skate thinking it will be the perfect wintery date. Unfortunately, he forgot one minor detail: he doesn't exactly know how to skate and spends a great deal of their time falling on the ice rather than skating on it.
Luckily for Patrick, David is more than prepared to kiss it all better.
*❄️*
Cloudy with a Chance of Reindeer
[David/Patrick, Alexis & David, Stevie & David - T - 4,482]
In order to raise money for the Winter Festival and Ronnie Lee's Rec Centre, Schitt's Creek's Town Council offers plastic reindeer for sale to local businesses and individuals to decorate and enter into a contest judged by the town's residents. David is adamantly opposed to participating in such an incorrect contest, but Patrick and everyone around him get involved and show off their artistic sides.
*❄️*
[podfic] happy golden days of yore
[David/Patrick - M - 1h:56m:37s]
“What are you doing here?”
Patrick blinks beneath the toque shoved onto his head, steadily dripping melting snow from his coat onto the mat they once purchased together. “Um… it’s my weekend."
What? David is already shaking his head, but Patrick takes a step forward, eyes wide, skin pale despite his cold-flushed cheeks.
“I get Christmas. You get New Years. I thought..." Patrick trails off and licks his lips. Behind him, snow blows in through the still-open doorway. "I thought that's what we agreed."
[podfic of happy golden days of yore by blueink3]
*❄️*
[podfic] you’re here (where you should be)
[Ted/Alexis - M - 34m:58s ]
The sun is blinding in its brightness, and it’s only once she’s fumbled through her purse, found her sunglasses, and slipped them on, that she sees Ted standing several feet away, the smile on his face every bit as brilliant as the sun, a cardboard sign held above his head that reads, Alexis Rose, Publicist Extraordinaire.
Alexis takes a holiday trip to the Galapagos Islands.
[podfic of you’re here (where you should be) by singsongsung]

No but the first one to say Ukraine won out of something else but sheer perfection, you don't understand. There are rules. As stated by the rules, Ukraine checked a lot of boxes:
A powerful, majestic start, maybe battle horn of some kind? using an old traditional folklore instrument adding a DJ who pretends to scratch breakdancer (in real life of course, this is thirty years old but in Eurovision, it will give your number a contemporary feel) Costumes! You need to look memorable, something that the viewers will notice Something everyone can connect to (love works, or motherhood can) You can break the rules of fashion and your chance to win shall grow Make it unforgettable and you will be the best and win the Eurovision Song Contest!

SWAMP RABBITS BRING BACK COYLE, GET POISSON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BCHL teammates reunited: Coyle back for second season, Poisson set to make professional debut By: Mark Binetti, Greenville Swamp Rabbits GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, announced today that defenseman Max Coyle has re-signed with the team for the 2024-25 ECHL Season. Additionally, Ben Poisson signed his first professional contract with Greenville, seeking his professional debut. Coyle and Poisson join Austin Saint and Colton Young on the 2024-25 Swamp Rabbits roster, with Coyle serving as the lone defenseman announced. Coyle comes back for his second professional season with the Swamp Rabbits. The 6’1”, 195-pound blue-liner chipped in a pair of goals and 12 points in 54 regular season games and added three more Kelly Cup Playoff games to his ledger. Coyle notched his first professional point, an assist, in his Swamp Rabbits debut on November 1st at Atlanta. He rang his first professional goal off the crossbar and in to win in overtime against Florida on January 6th. “Coming in for my first pro season last year, Greenville always seemed like the right fit for me. It clearly met my expectations: our group was great and I was happy around the rink every day. That’s what brought me here in the first place and precisely what’s bringing me back,” Coyle said of his return to the Swamp Rabbits. “Last year, I experienced many highs and lows as a rookie, and had some great runs with great people throughout the season, one being Coach Mountain. We have insane respect for him as a coach and person, and I’m super happy to return and play for him. My ultimate goal is to play at the next level, whether this season or beyond. However, my expectation this season is to be the best player I can be on and off the ice. I’ve never been obsessed with stats, so consistency and being a 200-foot player every day is what I’m working on this year. Additionally, I want to contribute to a group that will grow throughout season so, when the time comes, we’re ready for playoffs in our pursuit of winning the Kelly Cup.” “Max grew tremendously over the course of last season, and I still believe he has great potential as a player. He possesses a solid and well-rounded skillset, and brings an edge to his game that makes him very difficult to play against,” Kyle Mountain, Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations of the Swamp Rabbits, said of Coyle’s return. “Max dedicated so much time to developing last season, and those hours tend to pay off. Depth is critical in this league, so when players like Max buy into the process of getting better, it instills confidence in the organization that, when called upon, a guy like Max can step up and contribute. This season, he’ll be relied upon for his steady presence on the ice, but beyond that, he brings a great energy to our room. With a full year under his belt, I expect he'll put himself into a position to help this team in countless ways, both on and off the ice.” From Tillsonburg, Ontario, Coyle, 26, began his professional career with the Indy Fuel after the 2022-23 campaign, appearing in three games. Before becoming professional, he skated four seasons of NCAA college hockey, playing with the University of Alabama-Huntsville as a freshman and Bowling Green State University for his final three seasons. During his collegiate career, Coyle notched 21 points in 127 contests between the Chargers and Falcons. He preceded his college years, winning a BCHL championship with the Prince George Spruce Kings in 2019. Poisson joins the Swamp Rabbits seeking his professional hockey debut following the conclusion of his NCAA college career, which he spent with the University of Maine. The 6’1”, 195-pound forward tallied six goals and 15 points in 37 games in his fifth season and helped lead the Black Bears to their first NCAA Tournament in 12 years. “Looking at the structure and beliefs of this team, and speaking to players and coaches, this is an organization that has foundations for winning and developing players to be best they can be. It’s a program with great character, and I’m excited to be a part of it for my first professional season,” Poisson said of signing his first contract with Greenville. “I pride myself on doing the little things right. I play hard as a power forward, strong on the walls and in the tough-to-play areas of the ice. I do my best to play responsible defense just as much as I try to put the puck in the back of the net, overall contributing a full 200-foot game. My expectation for my first season is to adjust to the professional level and find my identity to build around for the betterment of the team. Having won a championship in junior, I can say without a doubt there’s no better feeling, so I want to help this team win a Kelly Cup title through fostering team chemistry and grinding for the crest on my chest and my teammates next to me. I look forward to meeting the fans and representing Greenville with the Swamp Rabbits.” “Ben’s character was one thing that immediately stood out to me in the recruiting process. He captained Prince George to a Fred Page Cup championship in the BCHL and was a two-year captain at the University of Maine. A makeup like that exemplifies what we’re continuing to build in Greenville, and I know he’ll contribute in a number of ways even as a first-year professional,” Mountain continued, elaborating on Poisson. “Ben plays a complete game, which will only serve to help him in his first professional season. He’s sound defensively, and really buys into that side of the puck. His wall play is very effective and is an aspect of his game that differentiates him from other professionals at this level. Ben also has size and plays into his big frame, which increases our physicality and provides him with an edge to create offense and produce. We look forward to growing his game at the professional level and developing him into a high-impact player.” A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Poisson, 24, enters the professional ranks with 31 goals, 41 assists, and 72 points in 155 NCAA games. Before college, he played parts of four seasons in the BCHL with the Prince George Spruce Kings, racking 114 points in 165 contests. He captained the Spruce Kings to the 2019 BCHL championship, with Coyle as his teammate, and was awarded the Bob Fenton Trophy in 2018 as the BCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. About the Greenville Swamp Rabbits … Acquired by Spire Sports + Entertainment (SS+E) in 2020, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey team has been providing family-friendly, live entertainment at Bon Secours Wellness Arena since 2010. The ultimate time an American lady took house the highest prize within the match used to be 1994. "I want I may describe how I think, it's superb," she advised the media after the race. "This medal approach such a lot. It's been a tricky couple of years and a tricky starting for this 12 months. For this to return round like this, I'm so glad." Erin Jackson celebrates her victory. Jackson took 3rd within the U.S. trials, the qualifying contest for the Olympics, and did not earn an opportunity to race in Beijing. However her teammate Brittany Bowe made up our minds to relinquish her spot within the 500 meter race to Jackson out of "the spirit of the Olympics." Bowe reportedly mentioned she had a greater probability to medal within the 1,000 meter and 1,500 meter occasions and that Jackson deserved to compete.
Anche No – Il video ufficiale

Nailers Begin Three-Game Weekend with 2-1 Win Over Norfolk
Tumblr media
Tommy Nappier and Tomas Vomacka put on a show between the pipes on Friday night, as both had excellent performances, while looking to outdo the other. In the end, it was Nappier who got to celebrate the victory, as he stopped 30 shots in the game and another three in the shootout. Brooklyn Kalmikov netted the lone shootout goal, as the Wheeling Nailers earned a key 2-1 triumph over the Norfolk Admirals to begin the three-game weekend set at WesBanco Arena. The Nailers and Admirals played a chess match for the majority of the first period, but with 22 seconds left until intermission, the home side got a timely opening marker. David Drake banked a pass from the defensive zone, off the bench wall, and ahead to a streaking Cédric Desruisseaux on the right side of the offensive zone. Desruisseaux flew past his defender, then roofed a wrist shot into the top-right corner of the cage. Norfolk battled back to tie the match with a 4-on-4 goal at the 4:55 mark of the middle stanza. Eric Williams floated a pass to the low slot for Stepan Timofeyev, who snuck in alone, made a bunch of stickhandles, and ultimately slid a forehand shot into the right side of the net. The two sides played cautiously in the third period, as only ten shots made their way onto the goals. That changed in overtime, as the seven-minute frame saw six attempts find their way on target, as each club had multiple chances to end the contest. Brooklyn Kalmikov started the shootout with a bang for Wheeling, as he drove a shot into the left side of the net. Tommy Nappier took over from there to shut the door. He forced Danny Katic wide in the first round, denied Ryan Foss with the blocker on the second try, and dove to deny Todd Burgess for the finisher in the 2-1 Nailers win. Tommy Nappier was tremendous in goal for Wheeling, as he thwarted 30 of the 31 shots he faced during the game, then went a perfect 3-for-3 in the shootout. Tomas Vomacka also had a strong showing for the Admirals, as he made 28 saves on 29 shots in the game, then went 2-of-3 in the shootout. The Nailers and Admirals have two more games at WesBanco Arena this weekend. Saturday night at 7:10 is First Responders Night, as the team honors its local heroes. Then, following Sunday's 4:10 tilt, fans will have the opportunity to skate with the odd-numbered players. The next Big 6 Promotional Night is Country Night on Saturday, March 11th, featuring a live post game concert by Jonathan Moody. Ticket packages and single game tickets are available for the 2022-23 season by visiting wheelingnailers.com or calling (304) 234-GOAL. The Wheeling Nailers, considered one of the top things to do in Wheeling, West Virginia, provide affordable family entertainment for fans throughout the Ohio Valley. Read the full article

Hello all. I wanted to start compiling some writing and photos here for you guys in more of a journalist style fashion. Instagram is a weird place these days. Sometimes it’s hard to get what I want to say across to an audience who is willing to digest it. So here we are, welcome to the blog space! Happy new year! What a wild ride 2022 was. But first, let me give a little self introduction for some context as to how I got to where I’m at.
For about 6 years now I have been a dedicated skateboarder, which became my greatest passion and the love of my life. Not getting the opportunity until after high school, it felt I had finally found a place in the world that I could experience my life in an adventurous and thrilling way. Starting in Boerne as a small town local, I quickly moved to the city (San Antonio) as soon as I found out about street skating, and the people who meet up and do it. The idea of it all possessed me. I was obsessed with skating every spot and meeting new rippers, going out everyday and pushing it to the limits, subsiding off of very little and experiencing the most because of it. Skateboarding made me fall in love with my life.
By 2020, a local shop in San Antonio opened up with a team and mission I was so stoked on. Carlos, Eddie, Will, Daniel, Jake, Brett, and Jared, founded by OG goodtimes shop guys James and Shorty, and his wife Kelly. A couple months before opening up, Carlos called me to let me know that since he been fucking with me so long and seen me go so hard, “Unfortunately, you have to ride for the shop.” Being apart of Deli gave me a family and a support system that truly, sincerely believes in me and my passion as well as a place to dedicate my own love and support to. These guys are some of the best to do it out of SA and it means the world to me to share space and community with them.
I started contesting before sponsorship, in 2019 with zumies best foot forward in San Antonio being my first, then Red Bull corner stone. Cornerstone was the first time I had traveled somewhere for an event. The contest was a 5 stop series through the Midwest at some really rad parks in some places I had a few online friends. My friend Dillon Lyon, who runs Studio Skate Supply, one of the series stops, had been supporting and encouraging my skating online for about a year when he reached out to me about coming out to KC to skate the contest, meet everyone at studio, and just have a fucking awesome time. After this first contest I traveled to, it became a whole vibe for me! Getting out there was my M.O.! I’d sleep on someone’s floor or in my car, pretty much lived off of protein bars and electrolyte drinks, and it was the best time of my life. Felt like 90% of it was in the parks or streets, and only 10% was sleeping and eating. I took only what I needed and ran till I was empty.
At this time the womens divisions would usually consist of about 3-5 local girls, and then maybe a few travelers like me. What got me really stoked on being a part of contests was showing up and representing for the ladies. I always saw many spectating, with stars in their eyes that told me how much it meant to them to see the individual girls and their skills, putting it down in such a masculine and intimidating space. These contests had some pretty legit cash prizes too, which helped out a lot in paying for the trip, or being able to go to the next one. What was really in it for me was meeting the other chicks and creating community, as well as being able to inspire people and represent the minority. And maybe sometimes getting in some tough guys way and watch him throw a fit. I mean, I never did that! Ha.. But really. Skateboarding became a thrilling way for me to dismantle patriarchy, which is important to my ideas of society. In the face of this hyper masculine environment, doing my thing defied the very way people think life is structured and what it depends on. Girls are eating shit, skating rails, and flipping sets, too, that’s sick. There are also girls with very creative and stylish runs despite years of experience or “advanced” skill, and they have confidence in doing it, and they’re successful and admired… that shit is really sick.
After a 2 years of Cornerstone and a few months traveling out of my car, I was ready to come home and try to focus on putting together a video part, and teaching lessons.
So here we are.
In January, I was at moms. I was feeling antsy for new adventure and was still going hard for skating. I had been teaching a few lessons on and off for the last 9 months. The previous summer, I had spent a bunch of time in Austin skating, hiking, and making some really cool friends that I loved being around. It had been an obvious idea for a while to move out there, so when my friend Paola reached out to me about needing a roommate, I jumped on it and was living in ATX March 1st. I was able to transfer from Summermoon in San Antonio to the O.G. location on south 1st. The money was even better than back home, which was great, accept for everything in Austin was more expensive, and inflation was skyrocketing, so at the end if every month I was down to barely 100 bucks and sometimes not even that. So I was strugglin’. But who wasn’t! Still, every night the park was poppin with everyone else who worked the day away and dedicated their last waking hours to skating. I was still extremely stoked to get into the busy scene.
I made a lot of good friends in Austin. I also learned a lot about what friendship looks like to different people.
Skateboarding is more popular than ever. Everyday there is a new trend, a new board company, a new video part that will blow your mind. Shit is COOLER than cool, if you got it. The biggest and baddest dudes achieve god-like skater status through professional videos, sponsorships, and travel opportunities. All of these things were the conventionally universal Way to being successful as a skateboarder. I met a lot of people who had no concept of skating beyond these ideals. Having such a unique and beautiful experience with community and diversity up north really made skating important to me as a way to express myself, inspire others, and create opportunity. It felt like a lot of that was missing from the scene in Austin. On top of that, (TW sexual assault) there were so many rumors coming out about popular, well liked guys in the scene being r*pists and/or abusers. And most times, their friends did absolutely nothing, or worse, defended and sympathized them. Many women I knew who enjoyed skating simply didn’t, or would go across town, as they didn’t feel safe at house park, in fear they’d see someone who had harmed them. And he’s still the cool guy, still a sick filmer bro, still sponsored, nobody cares. This created intoxicating fury in me. Suddenly, a place I loved and was supposed to express myself freely in became a place I felt angry all of the time. I didn’t give a fuck about getting sponsored anymore, filming a video, trying to get on any team, or trying to prove myself in anyway. I was so over the hype, but I couldn’t get away from it, skateboarding was my whole life and passion. I almost felt like I needed to take my skating and run away so that I didn’t accidentally start hating it.
Somewhere between making coffees 40 hours a week and losing interest in proving myself to people who had no value for my experience, my fire dimmed, I stopped trying to seek community, and fell very deep into myself. I had anxiety every day. I was barely able to scrape by, making that sacrifice to be in a place that I didn’t feel happy in.
There are many lovely, memorable things I still hold closely about Austin. My friends were (and still are) extremely supportive, talented and independent. They inspire me deeply. Living among them kept me alive and well.
I loved visiting the public libraries and spending time reading in them. I read a lot of books this year that helped me get through the hard times.
I got to take a really bad ass trip to New York City for my first time in July. My older brother paid for my plane tickets and I promised I’d pay him back, but barely sent him $100. (Sorry Eli, love you) Deli paid for me to skate the Boadr open. My friend Kava hosted me, fed me, took me out to events and places I was actually stoked to be in, and gave me a beautiful, peaceful, safe place to sleep. I am immensely blessed! The trip really inspired me. (You can read my post about NYC here :) ~linkkk ) It was a week of complete freedom and the sickest community within skateboarding I had ever seen. Being there and meeting those people put me into worlds that felt like I had dreamed them into existence. I came back to Austin and found out we would have to move. It was nearly impossible to find a place that summer, so, I packed my shit and went home.
While my time in Austin was challenging and exhausting, I learned so many valuable lessons about myself. What I like and don’t like, about how good friends can empower you, and how liberating it is to not give a fuck what anyone thinks you should do and just find your own way to happiness. That was probably the hardest pill to swallow. Even though I loved my friends and being a part of their lives, maybe happiness in my life did not look the same to me. And that’s ok. I moved home to San Antonio August 1st. I had two months of recuperating from my massive failure to pursue what was sought out to be a successful, fun skate life. A couple good Deli sessions, local events and teaching lessons revived my love and passion for community in skateboarding. But still, my hyper independence and lust for adventure was pushing me to expand my horizons. I was tired of living at home, and I wanted to do something adventurous. Since living/traveling in Oregon, I had fallen in love with hiking and exploring wild areas. There is a part of me that longs for wide open spaces. After a bit of Tik Tok research about seasonal work, I found a job in Big Bend National Park as a waitress at the Chisos Mountain Lodge on coolworks.com. Affordable housing and remote wilderness gave me the opportunity to save money, which I needed to do more than anything. I would also be living in a place where I could spend more time outdoors on the trail and in the back country. So I took the job and head out here October 28. While I am making and saving quite a bit of money, as well as hiking and backpacking some epic trails, the job and work environment is hectic. The lodge is run by Aramark, a massive corporation with little respect for their service workers. We have no restaurant manager, we're severely understaffed, and we often work 10+ hour shifts without breaks. The holidays had me ready to run home to my mama and never work another park job again, but I got through it. The housing situation is a big problem out here, too. We live in some of the most run down mobile homes I've ever seen in my life, many are 2-3 people to a small bedroom, sleeping in bunk beds with very little space to keep any possessions. Luckily, I was placed in a room that is so small it would be impossible to put another bed in there, so I got my own space, which has worked out great for me, except for the light fixture in my bedroom falling and breaking on my face, cutting open my chin and leaving a scar. Oh, and the mice that live in the walls. I guess if it ain't one thing, it's another. So, things are less than perfect, but what's new! It is still an enchanting experience to live in the national park. I've made friends from all over the world, hiked distances I previously would have never dared, and been able to unplug from busy city life and dependence on it. It's been a good step back and given me a lot of perspective. It's also been refreshing to enjoy other activities besides skating, as I was feeling a little burnt out from my experience in Austin. What I love about skateboarding personally is that it is challenging, mentally and physically, and therefore empowering. I get the same stoke out of hiking and backpacking. It's kept me active and happy with life.
So here we are! Rolling into the new year with new perspective and experiences. I am so grateful for every piece of this journey, as all of it has brought me here safely to where I am today. Going forward, I am ready to come home and get back to teaching lessons and skating with my team. I really needed a breather and my time out here has sincerely helped me process my passion and where I want it to take me. I'm definitely crazy stoked on travel and adventure so i'm learning to balance that with my skate life and commitments to it in San Antonio. One thing for sure, I'm not going to stop either. My passion drives me to experience life in the most exciting and enriching ways.
Hope you've enjoyed this novella of a 2022 recap. It means a lot that you've read it. Please share with friends if you feel so inclined and check back for more content as I continue to live my adventurous and non traditional lifestyle.

European Challenge Cup: Glasgow Warriors 26-18 Perpignan
Glasgow Warriors survived a Perpignan comeback to win their European Challenge Cup tie at Murrayfield. Glasgow capitalized on their numerical advantage in the closing stages, Sebastian Cancelliere scoring the crucial fourth try to earn the bonus point
Franco Smith’s team had moved into a deserved lead thanks to converted tries by Rufus McLean and Huw Jones. The French Top 14 team replied before the break through Jake McIntyre’s try, but a penalty and a Lucas Dubois score then put the visitors a point in front.
However, a penalty try and a Sebastian Cancelliere score earned a bonus-point win as yellow cards cost the French. Glasgow led 14-5 at the break but it was the most ludicrously one-sided 14-5 in the long and glorious history of 40-minute Challenge Cup 14-5.
In other words, Glasgow should have been home-free halfway through. On five separate occasions while it was still scoreless they exploded into Perpignan’s 22, threatened and then got turned over. It was as if the game was happening on a loop. European Challenge Cup Perpignan only existed as a defensive unit. Their wingers may as well have taken a stroll into town to look at the Christmas lights.

Grey College vs Hamilton Boys – The World Schools Festival Cup Final will take place on Saturday 17th December at 4:35pm local time in Thailand. The final of the Shield competition will see Sedbergh School from England take on St Michael’s College from Ireland. This contest will take place at 1:45pm local time. All fans
Eventually, the home team – if you can call Glasgow that while playing in the emergency venue of Murrayfield – made their possession pay. They were mad keen to get hands on ball, utterly determined to play at a rapid tempo but exuberance brought a lack of accuracy and it dogged them. When they became clinical they got the job done at last, McLean being put away in the right corner.
Weir converted. The smattering of Glasgow fans raised as much noise as they could and then raised it again soon after when more pressure culminated with Sione Tuipulotu grubbering for Jones to touch down.

A healthy lead now, 14 points being the least they deserved. European Challenge Cup Perpignan gave away eight penalties in the opening 25 minutes, coughed up some line-outs and never gave the slightest impression of a team that could do damage. Sitting second from bottom in the Top 14 and having lost their opening game in this competition last week, you expected Glasgow to skate away.
The French top-14 team responded with a try from Jake McIntyre before half-time, but a penalty and a goal from Lucas Dubois then put the visitors a point ahead.
However, a penalty attempt and a goal from Sebastian Cancelliere earned a bonus point as the French cost yellow cards.
