Some thoughts on the latest clip. Not my first reaction as I've been checking the tag sporadically while waiting for the subs.

Fatou is quizzing Mailin on Biology over Zoom. As Fatou does that, Mailin is browsing insta. Some selfie, a poster at a protest because Mailin loves posters and protests, another selfie... Finn! His cuteness again throws Mailin off her game and she has trouble responding to Fatou's question about neurotransmitters. If Finn keeps being so goddamn cute, will Mailin manage to get into uni? Jury is still out!

Anyway Fatou has to go because some girl named Miri is doing the video about her. (I guess.) Mailin is free to resume ogling at Finn, but instead she checks Zoe's insta. She also finds the by now infamous video of Zoe dancing to I'm a Slave 4 U, just the kind of video that Zoe has been posting weekly since s5 as we all know.

Mailin seems kinda taken aback at finding such a video, but she keeps watching. Then she puts the phone aside with a face as if she's made a decision. Next thing we see, she too is in her bra trying to copy Zoe's dance moves. This is great! Physical exercise is a great way to relax during a stressful time such as exams.

Having exercised, Mailin goes downstairs and puts her face in a frozen bag of peas. She also almost trips on a roomba, just in case we somehow missed that her mom and mom's partner have disposable incomes.

She spies some trash sticking out of the trash can out of the corner of her eye, and goes to reorganize them in their proper recycling bags. While she's doing that, she finds a yoghurt in the trash and starts eating it sitting on the floor next to the trash can. I mean... I would've at least poured it onto a bowl rather than eat it from a cup that's been touching trash, but now that the EU has decided covid is over, we don't have to worry about microbes anymore.

Then Mailin texts Nora that she's feeling out of sorts. I was like, "yeah Mailin, that will happen if you're eating out of the trash on the reg." But nope! Mailin thinks she's going to flunk Bio because she can't concentrate. Wait, so... Dancing like Zoe didn't solve all of Mailin's problems then? :( But then why would Druck post that video to Zoe's ig? :(((

This storyline reminds me a lot of what Lik Meg did in their s4. Lik Meg is a Norwegian show in the style of Skam that is aimed at 12-14 year olds.

if you had a say in how the next eps play out then what would they look like and focus on?

whew. to be honest i wish i could have had a say in how the previous episodes played out instead 🥴 but okay, considering what we have got set up right now, i would:

1. set a focus on isi’s gender identity exploration, have them go to a queer youth group meeting, where it’s discussed openly so they can get some clarity on themselves in that aspect. include a conversation about it with their parents where they’re understanding and supportive (i wouldn’t want to expect any less from how they’ve been set up so far)

2. absolutely not have them make up with either lou or constantin by the end. cut constantin off from the instas, ideally have him mention thinking about or already going to therapy in the last episode cause everyone deserves a chance to get better. include a calm conversation with lou where isi cuts her off as well cause of all the shit she’s pulled him into in the past 2 months. and also cause she’s annoying. i’d have her move somewhere so we don’t have to see her in s8 if there is one

3. show closeness with kieu my, zoë and finn. girltalks, chill hangouts where we see what connects them and why they’re friends. have them discuss constantin and settle on the fact that he’s not unredeemable, but he needs to heal before he can be friends with anyone like that again

4. include a moment of realization clip with isi stalking sascha on instagram or going through their messages where we see that final shift from ‘i can’t lose my best friend’ to ‘i can’t lose my best friend and the person i’m in love with’

5. have sascha be present in almost every single of the remaining clips. not literally, but like, in spirit. isi’s parents mention him at the dinner table, umut asks about him, ava mentions him in a conversation. it would show how intertwined their lives actually are; wherever isi goes, there’s traces of sascha. i’d use this to compensate a bit for the lack of development we got with them.

6. similarly to the previous point, i’d throw in a lesson about proper treatment of other people in as many clips as possible. have ismail reflect and feel genuinely sorry, not for themselves, but for the way they’ve treated ava, nora and sascha. show how they’ve changed and bring out that kindness that they have inside them with full force

7. add at least two more isi singing clips. eren has a beautiful voice and i feel very connected to isi when they sing. i’d have them write a song and sing to sascha, whether as part of their final apology or as just a loving moment between them where ismail in their own way shows him that they care. sascha builds for isi, isi writes for sascha.

8. cemevi clip!!!!! more exploration of isi’s religion, a discussion about gender identity in relation to it, ending on a positive note.

9. have another clear discussion with ava where ismail shows proper remorse and apologizes again, even though ava seems to be fully okay with them right now (which never should’ve happened after just that one clip; i had high hopes and was almost certain that discussion wasn’t genuinely over after one conversation…disappointment) & have them apologize to nora for the way they treated her in s5

10. give sascha and isi all the classic skam couple clips; first kiss, the morning after, hiding from everyone before announcing they’re a couple, dancing and singing together & a cute clip with isi’s family seeing them as a couple for the first time

11. sashisi new year’s kiss. as a treat

i genuinely don’t know how i would fit all of this into three weeks so lucky for us, it’s hypothetical.

nothing in this season is working??? This ep seems like it should have been episode 3 at least??

what is the reason for Lou/Sascha??? Like I actually like both of these characters but if you wanted someone outside of the instas you could have chosen Yara or made one other character - there is no reason for both of them?? Plus you have an entire cast already there (with a lot of them underdeveloped) and you chose to add 2 new white characters like??

So is the bullying plot over now? Are none of Ava’s friends even slightly protective over her? Is Nora ok with how Ismail behaved to her?

Why aren’t the clips progressing the plot? Why are half the clips this season a dance video?

everyone crediting Sascha for ‘influencing’ Ismail to be more confident with themselves are forgetting that the previous clip was literally Lou

How much of the summary are we actually seeing in the clips?:

What can a friendship endure  and how much are you willing to give up for it? - is this about the love triangle? Is it about their past bullying?  In the seventh season of the funk series Druck, everything is about Ismail.  In the last year before the Abi, he feels more lonely and misunderstood - they havent shown us this unless you count them masturbating? between all the couples - again they havent shown us this? and his moody friend Constantin - they did show us a ‘moody Constantin’ last season but this season their focus has been Lou??  When a new girl joins their year, the relationships change - Ismail has had one argument with C and everyone else is supportive?  Ismail starts wondering what he actually expects of himself - when have they wondered? When have they looked at who they are and questioned it apart from this episode? Apart from one really bad apology?

Last season actually gave the writers a good starting point. Ismail was getting frustrated with Constantin. So why didn’t they have a clip showing that Constantin was being moody when with them? Why didn’t they have a clip with Constantin ditching them? Why haven’t they shown the instas having that close bond? If they struggled writing it in the present then be the first SKAM remake to have a flashback? Why haven’t they shown that Zoe, Finn, Kieu My have their own priorities and therefore aren’t involved with the Constantin Ismail drama?

Hi,

Thank you for your latest post. It really resonated with me. I (a 26 year old woman) recently came out as bisexual, after years of suppressing my true feelings. (When I say “years”, I mean approximately 15 years.) And as weird/ creepy as it sounds, watching mlm shipping videos on YouTube was my first step into self discovery. (This was actually how I discovered Skam! 😂) Then, I started following shows that portrayed such relationships. And even though I am not male, something about them really resonated with me. At the time I had no idea what it was. But I remember feeling so incredibly guilty about doing it. My inner biphobia questioning my motives: was I not just “so heterosexual” that I just wanted to see as many dudes as possible? 💀 (spoiler alert: I wasn’t 😆)

That was roughly 3-4 years ago. Anyways, from there, I started exploring queer culture. Mainly because I “wanted to be an ally” and somehow felt really at home there. (I have many queer friends and am member of a very open minded sorority, with lots of people queer people. But again: nothing clicked in my repressed dumbass mind!) Reading articles and books, but most of all: listening to music! (Troye Sivan, thanks for your invaluable contribution! 💚) And slowly, my focused broadened itself (to all sorts of queer couples) and I realised my interest went further than just curiosity.

So, about 2 years ago, I started to realise that maybe I am queer. That the first person I ever fell in love with was actually a girl (it was at summer dancing camp -> we learned all sorts of dance from ballroom to hiphop and linedancing, she was fifteen and I was twelve, she openly proclaimed “I am bi” and I was smitten 🥰) and till this day I can’t forget about her. And that maybe all my “I appreciate this beautiful woman” was a little more than just “appreciation”.

Anyways, after peeling of layers of biphobia during 2020 (first I doubted whether I really was bi -> “am I not just seeking attention/ making a fuss?”; then I started resisting it “I don’t want this -> I don’t want yet another reason for standing out in a crowd”; then I wondered if it was just a phase -> I wasn’t doing well so maybe that influenced how I was feeling; then I just felt completely desperate -> “what the hell am I going to do with this.!”), I finally came to a point of acceptance early this year. Throughout this year, I have informed all important people about me being bi. And I couldn’t be happier now.

Although it still feels like a struggle; accepting that my future plans have changed (enriched but still changed), but also accepting that I sort of lived a “lie” in the past. And idk, just accepting the whole idea of being bisexual and exploring what that means to me. I consider my bisexuality as a holistic identity (it’s not just being attracted to guys and gals, but influences all aspects of me). How I view myself (even my gender), how I see the world (more shades of grey it seems), how I experience my body, what I am to others, but also how this relates to religion and spirituality. Unrelated, but I would’ve liked if previous “Evak” seasons had paid more attention to this stage of exploration. Instead of just offering a love interest and proceeding to create drama around said love interest.

But what I wanted to say: the external gaze of seeing myself (a woman) but in a parallel universe (mlm) helped me so much to be reintroduced to myself. To get to know “me” again and who I am and who I love. And yes, every time I read people dismissing that as “fetishisation”, I get triggered again and feel really dirty somehow. I am sure there are women (or people who feel that), but in my mind that’s just a fraction of responses. And for all I care, these people can just…slip on a banana peel.

So thank you for your post. I do like Sascha and Isi together. Maybe not as a ride-or-die ship (even queer people can have fragile relationships that they need to figure out right? another perspective I missed a little bit in Skam), but that’s mainly because there are a lot of complicating factors here. First and foremost Ava, and then Isi figuring out who they are and the distorted power balance between them and Sascha. Yet, my lovely Discord community is of a different opinion. (Mainly bc Sascha is “another white cis male love interest.) And that often makes me feel inaccurate. But your post provided great comfort.

First of all, congratulations on coming out, it took me an eternity as well so I feel you there!! 🎉

I genuinely fail to see why people use the fetishisation argument as their first attack when it's in most of the cases not just wrong but also paints gay relationships as inherently sexual and something to wank over instead of a means to self discovery and just wanting positive queer representation in media. Especially when skam/its remakes (but also other queer friendly media) has helped so many people to understand themselves and find acceptance.

Unfortunately there's a lot of gatekeeping in the queer community and misogyny is deeply ingrained everywhere. So when women actually like something there MUST be something wrong with it.

So yeah that argument is nothing but harmful.

That said I hope there will be a little more calm in the tag, as a nb person I was so excited to see myself represented for the first time and all the fighting just makes it hard to enjoy.

rating the evak pool scenes by the song they chose and just the scenes in general, because yes.

evak: it’s a nice and beautiful song. the soft piano gives the pool scene a nice and cozy vibe, and it’s the original so it’s obviously the best. 7/10, never fails to disappoint. the thing i absolutely adore about this scene is the little girl at the end. she just looks at them with such a face and then yells: MAMMAAAAAAA. the original is always the best so ignore the 7/10 i gave the song.

Skate Canada 2022 - impressions

The second GP of this season is over. While SkAm felt like a scam from start to finish, SC was on another level of scam for me (especially the women competition).

Pairs - this time I did watch pairs for Riku and Ryuichi. They are both so endearing as people and lovely to watch on the ice. I absolutely loved both their programs and they reminded me why pairs can be my favorite part of figure skating. Again, I didn't care much about the other teams, but I'm so happy M/K made history at Skate Canada being the first Japanese pair skaters to win a GP event. I can't wait to see them at NHK.

Ice Dance - this time I really didn't care about the ice dance pairs, I just watched for the vibes since this is the only discipline that I have close to 0 technical knowledge about.

Men's - So happy for Kao winning the SP and I had such high hopes he'd win the gold... alas... I think had he landed the 4S, he should've been in first. Shoma's skate, I actually liked the program, but I believe his PCS was inflated a little bit and Kao's a bit under. Anyway, it sort of makes sense that Shoma won. And Matteo - I didn't like him last season, but his skating seems to have improved now, so I'm curious where he's going to stand at the Europeans. During the FS, though, I was mostly sleeping (I attentively watched Deniss - poor guy, please, redemption at Sheffield) while waiting for the show off between Shoma and Kao.

Women's - what was that?! The SP scores were so low (for men, too, come to think of it) and the ranking was so weird. During the FS, the women channeled the "menning" energy and the results changed drastically. I'm so happy for Rinka, Young and Rika. I know that Young won bronze because the Canadian girls flopped, but she should've had higher pcs! She should've podiumed regardless of how the Canadians did. Anyway, I'm happy with the Rinka, Starr, Young podium and with Rika coming in 3rd for the FS. That just tells you so much about the quality of Rika's skating if with relatively low TES she managed to be in 3rd.

What’s the story about? 

Sometimes people in love can become like strangers. Matteo’s sure it can’t happen to him and David. Until the shimmer happens. Suddenly David doesn’t even recognize his name, Sara’s his girlfriend again, and no one knows he’s gay. Matteo needs to figure it out but he isn’t scared this time. He’s a different person now with a new confidence. If he can’t get back to his own life, maybe he can recreate it (preferably with less angst this time).

🇦🇲 Armenia: Rosa Linn – Snap It has that good old pop music vibe – plus that flying house reminds me of UP the movie – angelic voice but I guess its something that we have heard a lot – nothing extraordinary

i'm 5'3, i have pale skin and i'm a bit chubby; i have shoulder-lenght wavy auburn hair with two bright red hair strands on the side of my face. i have almond/green eyes and my cheeks are covered in freckels (i also wear big golden square glasses)

I thought about this one for a bit, as I like to do 1/2 matchups per fandom, and well, I feel like you and Narancia would get along super well. Nara needs someone who can keep up with him, and someone who's like him. He needs someone who's just as loud and talkative as he is. If you can also make him laugh, which isn't that hard to do, that'd be an added plus! He also loves shopping, whether it's for a new manga, or just to pick something out for you. Just because he has an interesting fashion style, it doesn't mean that he doesn't have a good one, because he does, and he'll help pick out things that he thinks you'd like. Although I’m convinced SKAM and every single of the remakes fucked up big time in at least one of the topics/issues they explored, I don’t think none of them did it like wtFOCK is doing now. I was reflecting the other day and I realized they filled S4 with a myriads of topics/issues and fucked up every single one of them. How is this possible!? How it’s possible they were unable to do at least something positive?  Instead of educating the audience and spreading awareness, they are spreading ignorance and extremely harmful messages:

They brushed aside racism and homophobia as “dumb things”. 

They tried to justify racism with bad experiences with drugs and narrow-minded parents. 

They compared racism and homophobia.

They compared supposedly “strict” parents with homophobic parents.

They completely forgot about the islamophobia portrayed in first eps. 

They reinforced the stereotypes that conventional pretty, skinny, white, blonde girls are models and influencers.

They made the two conventional pretty, white girls in the series, rivals for no reason or purpose.

They made white, blonde, pretty girls display bitchy, petty attitudes. 

They’re pushing forward a toxic, harmful and manipulative romantic relationship. 

They’re reinforcing and supporting the idea that, white, beautiful females, have the privilege to do whatever they want with no real consequences. Kato had to provoke a freaking car accident to finally face some “consequences” (If we can call them that). 

They created a character that we’re supposed to like, but: 1)She mocked the people that called her out for her stupid actions, showing not even a bit of regret; 2)bossed her boyfriend around; 3)tried to manipulate her boyfriend through his friends; 4)worried more about her dancing footage than Moyo’s wellbeing and family, legal issues; 5)wished her supposedly “strict” parents were dead and more. 

This makes me realize how much wtFOCK depended on SKAM to deliver serious, responsible and smart messages to their young audiences, because it’s clear the people behind the team don’t have the awareness and sensibility to tackle issues with an actual, fresh, positive vision. These guys are completely stuck in the past and it’s old, toxic ways, and it’s really showing.
