Every so often, Threo took it upon herself to do a little patrolling around the city, the kind of thing Anre or Seofon would approve of. After all, barely anyone in the city knew who the Eternals were, and that was kind of a bummer, so she would spread their name and do some good deeds in the process! It was foolproof. Or Threo-proof, even.

The sound of a scuffle behind some buildings drew her attention as she walked. It sounded like an argument, could it turn violent? Maybe she should take a look just to be-

“Oof! What the- oh no, my ice cream!” 

Threo’s patrol treat leapt from her hand to the ground as she bounced off of the stranger’s backside. “Darn, my bad! I should’ve been paying more attention! Oh, I think I got some ice cream on your cape...” It wasn’t exactly behavior befitting an Eternal, but maybe they would be understanding? Actually, the more Threo looked at the cape, the more familiar it seemed...

“...Seox? Oh, Seox! Wow, what are the odds?” This was good news, it was someone who couldn’t be that mad at her, because they were crewmates. “Hi Seox! Good seeing you again! Oh, sorry about your cape! I was distracted ‘cause it sounded like some people might be fighting!”

The mystery of why he’d been brought to this island had yet to be solved, and Seofon didn’t have any leads. 

But he was trying not to worry about it much, not until he had a better grasp on the situation. Now that he’d found Threo here, as well as a few others from the Sky Realm, he was starting to feel a little more sure that this was something affecting their entire world, and if he was going to solve it, he needed more support. If two Eternals were here, then surely, there had to be more.

But Seofon’s noble quest of finding other Eternals had gotten sidetracked fairly quickly, especially since he’d been dropped onto the island in his beach gear, in the middle of a festival. It was where he was now, partaking of the food, a stick of grilled squid in one hand, and one of steak in the other, wielding them like he would wield his swords.

So imagine his surprise when his eyes fall on a very familiar figure from behind, one that he very clearly recognized as Seox. He couldn’t even hide his excitement as he ran up to the man, the first thought in his mind that they were on the beach at a festival much like he’d tried to drag all the Eternals to every year. He couldn’t escape him here. Surely it would be shocking to see Seofon not clad in his typical armor, but in a very small swimsuit and open shirt.

“Seox! Seox, my friend, I can’t believe this, you’re here as well!”

     the way six’s hand pushes hers away surprises her. though to be fair, even with her doting personality, perhaps pinching an eternal’s cheeks is not the wisest idea she’s had. she cannot help adorning a playful smile on her face, however, given how flushed his cheeks were. 

            ❝ Don’t be harsh, though. It’ll do some good to open up a little bit. ❞

          Was this bullying? Was he getting bullied? Doppo started to sweat, wringing his hands together in a fit of anxiety. He really hated the gaze being aimed towards him. His skin crawled, because this man looked dangerous and if he was gonna die he’d rather not go out this way. 

          “Y-Yes? Can I help you?”

47. — stars

Threo’s fellow Eternals are always easy to track down, at least for her. The way they smell is unmistakable, they exude a power that almost no one else in the skies can match. So even when they don’t want to be found, she can find them. “Seox!” she shouted, running up to him. “What’re you doing all the way out here?”

He made a strained sound before turning to face Threo. “I was enjoying a little bit of solitude.”

“Soli-what? W-what’s that mean? You know I don’t know words like that!”

“Nevermind,” he said, shaking his head. “What do you want?”

“Nothing, really. I just wanted to know what you were up to.”

“Hmm. Well, I’ve been thinking about something you said. You thought we still might be in another skydom, but look up there.”

She followed Seox’s outstretched hand, looking up to the sky and finding… Nothing. “What am I supposed to be looking at?” she said, squinting. “Is there something up there?”

He made that same sound again. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m talking about the stars, Threo. Look closely.”

The stars? She didn’t have the faintest idea of what he could mean. Stars were just stars, weren’t they? Every night, the stars came out, and while they were very pretty, they were just kind of… there. 

“What, is there a shape or something up there? Like connect the dots?”

“Oh come on-” He got to his feet this time. “Well, I know you’re not just playing with me, so I’ll tell you. They’re not the same stars, Threo. I don’t see anything that looks familiar. No matter where you go in the skies, you can always find the same stars, but now-”

“You can? Wow, I never knew that.”

“How can you know so little about the world you live in? I can’t imagine how you survive like that.” With a wave of his hand, Seox began to walk away. Threo, naturally, followed closely behind.

“You don’t need to be smart to survive!” she said, struggling to keep up with his long strides. “You just need to be stronger than whatever’s trying to kill you! Sometimes you need to be strong just to survive! You should know that, Seox.”

“I hate that you’re one of the only ones who understands that,” he grumbled.

“That’s what I mean! Me and you are almost the same, so it’s a good thing we ended up here together!”

He stopped short, and Threo almost ran into him. “I understand what you mean, but… Don’t say it like that. You can’t even sit still for five minutes to notice how these aren’t the skies we know.”

“Well, that’s good too! You noticed stuff I didn’t! That’s teamwork, Seox!”

His groan said he wanted to argue the point but couldn��t think of a way to refute it. “Fine. Whatever you say. Just don’t expect me to do all your thinking for you.”

“I won’t! But, Seox, there’s one more thing…”

The timidness in her voice actually made him turn around. Maybe he couldn’t imagine what could possibly make her act that way, maybe-

She was quicker than he’d given her credit for. “Hah! I got your mask!”

“H-hey! Y-you can’t say things about teamwork and then do that! Threo! Give it back!”

Seofon is taken aback for a moment, eyes widening at the words muttered from the Erune’s mouth. He replays them in his mind, a rare display of praise from Seox, almost like…the top prize at a festival, extremely difficult to get, but oh so rewarding once it was received. It wasn’t that he never received praise, but rather, he had never received praise from Seox.

To receive praise from one of the Eternals he had brought in himself, one that sometimes made him doubt if he had done the right thing…it meant more to him than Seox or anyone would ever know. Seofon dips his head a bit, a slow smile curling onto his lips, wide from ear to ear as a warmth fills his expression, and all he can really say in response is a simple, but humble–

“Thank you, my friend.”
