Pacemaker
F/M Pairing: Y/N x Bang Chan (SKZ)
Warnings: Let me be clear: this is a very dark narrative. I have lots of warnings for my readers, including explicit smut, vulgar language, toxic relationships, voyeurism, choking, sadism, smoking, and drinking.
Word Count: 8.2K
Genre: Sugar Daddy AU; Established Relationship
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N had made a lot of bad decisions throughout her life, but signing up for that stupid Sugar Daddy website? The worst of them all.
A/N: The title makes more sense in the end, but I can tell you that pacemaker’s are used to control arrhythmia's - and Seungmin might just function that way for the reader! Also, I’m really sorry for making Chan such an asshole.
Tumblr media
Seungmin was a good best friend, even if he was determined to ruin his lungs with expensive cancer sticks.
I had once tried to help him break the bad habit - stealing the cigarette boxes that he bought from the store and tossing them into the trash. But Seungmin made it rather difficult to break his addiction, and when I found him digging through the trash one evening, trembling fingers bringing the lighter up to his lips, I stopped trying to help him. And it might seem like a shitty thing for a best friend to abandon, but I was really tired of seeing my efforts die in vain when Seungmin made it loud and clear that he wasn’t willing to relent.
However, I was probably the worst person in the world to preach against his vices, especially when mine were far more consequential. Ironically, if I was to compare our biggest slights, then I might find a lot of similarities between our horrible habits. For instance, we were both prisoners to something toxic, and it was hard to push out those dark shadows when they had already snuffed out most of the light.
But at least Seungmin still had some control over his autonomy whereas I had allowed a single man to dictate every aspect of my existence. He decided the clothes that I would wear to his fancy office, and the things that I was allowed to do to my own person. He enacted so many rules that I could barely keep up with them, and he frequently reminded me that I was supposed to comply with whatever he demanded because I signed a foolish contract.
In the end, it was my fault for becoming so involved, but I could always rely on Seungmin for companionship when I felt another bout of existential dread. Because Seungmin was a good listener, and he made an effort to understand my problems even when he didn’t agree with my decisions. It was one of the things that I liked most about him, and I watched him with indifferent eyes as he stomped out his cigarette against the sidewalk.
Thereafter, his breath vaporized against the frigid air, and it was the only reminder that it was cold because my body had already grown numb to the sensation. “What happened this time?” Seungmin asked, raising a brow in question.
It was a deceivingly simple question because there was no straightforward answer that I could offer him in response. Instead, I shrugged while trying to collect my thoughts. Because I still wasn’t really sure how I felt about my latest rendezvous with him, but I knew for certain that it had affected me more than the other times.
“It was different,” I replied, and Seungmin nodded.
“Did he hurt you?” Seungmin asked.
“Yes, but not the kind of hurt that you’re thinking about,” I said.
“Well, that’s still fucked up,” Seungmin said. “Tell me everything.”
Oh, but there was so much to tell him, and my mind instantly brought me back to the very beginning when I signed my name on a contract that promised so much only to deliver nothing but pain.

Six Months Ago
The worst decision of my life was predicated on my desperation for cash, and I was almost at the point where I would do anything to see another zero on my bank statement.
When I first moved to California, I had a lot of big dreams, and I was so excited to secure a scholarship to a highly-accredited University. It seemed that the world was finally on my side, and I left my home on the east coast to start a new life with more opportunities. Everything was going according to plan, and there was nothing preventing my success.
Except for me, of course.
And it happened during the events of a single evening when I decided to attend a fraternity party on campus that my roommate recommended. The music was loud, the alcohol was unlimited, and any prior inhibitions had been thrown out the window much to my own detriment. I forgot all about my responsibilities, and I made one careless decision after another until I ended up in bed with a stranger.
I don’t even remember his name, but he was just one of the students who got busted by the police that night. Apparently, someone next door ratted us out, and they discovered a bunch of under-age students drinking alcohol without any supervision, including myself. But when the University found out, my scholarship was taken away, and my parents refused to send me extra money for tuition because they were determined to bring me back home.
But I wasn’t about to let one night ruin everything, and it was my roommate’s idea to suggest the stupid website. “It’s like a Sugar Daddy thing,” my roommate giggled. “All you have to do is sign-up, and then they’ll email you if there’s any interest.”
“Interest?”
“Well, they’ll probably want something from you in exchange for money.”
“How much money?”
“I guess that’s up to you to decide.”
Tragically, I was too desperate to consider the consequences, and I signed up without even thinking about the potential for disaster. And within a week, I got several emails from old misers offering me loads of cash in exchange for services that ranged from a private escort request to more explicit favors. But none of them stood out to me, especially in comparison to the young CEO who claimed to only be 28-years-old, but I could hardly believe his profile.
Still, I decided to entertain him, and I organized a meeting at a neutral location just in case anything funny happened. But I was still shocked to see the same man from the pictures waiting for me inside the coffee shop. And he was just as handsome as he appeared online: long, curly blonde hair, deep brown eyes, and a broad smile that took my breath away.
“Y/N?” he asked when I cautiously approached the table.
“Mr. Bang Chan?” I returned, and he laughed while rolling up the sleeves of his shirt to reveal strong, muscular arms.
“That’s me,” he said. “You can sit down if you want.”
“Of course,” I said, feeling rather foolish after standing there for so long. “I’m sorry, but I was really surprised because I honestly thought you might by lying about your age.”
“Why would you think that?” he asked, and I easily detected an accent carrying his words.
“Uh, considering the circumstances,” I said with a wince. “I feel like you could have any woman you want.”
“Oh?” Chan asked while raising one brow suggestively. “Maybe I just want you.”
“R-really?” I stuttered while wondering if I had made a good decision when I wore a skirt that afternoon. “You can probably tell that I’ve never done this before.”
“That’s alright,” Chan reassured me. “I don’t have much experience either.”
It seemed too good to be true - like there wasn’t any logical explanation for why this incredibly sexy businessman had signed up for some Sugar Daddy website when all he had to do was blink in my direction and I was already falling for him hard. “So, I guess you expect something from me.”
“I like how you do business,” Chan remarked. “We can skip all the formalities, then?”
“If you want,” I said, still feeling a bit sheepish as I glanced down at the table.
“From you, Y/N,” Chan continued. “I want a partner.”
“In what sense?” I asked. “Are you talking about something...sexual?”
“I’d really like that,” Chan said with a seductive smile. “But only if you’re interested.”
“Definitely,” I quickly agreed, throwing all caution to the wind as I surrendered to his ridiculous charisma.
“In return, you can have whatever you want,” Chan said. “Money isn’t an issue for me.”
“I really just need money for my tuition.”
“Is that all?” Chan scoffed as if he was in disbelief. “There’s got to be something else.”
I hesitated for a moment, wondering why it was so hard to ask him for those extravagances when the entire premise of our meeting rested on the basis of one exchange for another. “My apartment,” I said. “I plan to get a job in the future, but I’m struggling with rent.”
“Fuck the job,” Chan said. “I don’t mind paying your rent.” He smirked as he leaned back against the booth with a sigh. “I used to be a college student, Y/N, and I had problems paying for those things too.”
His attitude was nothing but nonchalant, and our terms were settled without a single complaint. Eventually, the deal was finalized when I met him later that evening at his lavish penthouse apartment, signing my name at the bottom of an exclusive contract that I hadn’t even taken the time to read.
“It’s done,” Chan declared, and I watched his forearms bulge as he applied pressure to the official stamp. “We can have some fun together,” he added, and the look he gave me was nothing short of predatory. “Tell me, Y/N. Are you a virgin?”
“No, sir,” I said, watching him throw the contract aside onto the coffee table.
“Good,” he purred while slowly unbuttoning his shirt. “Do you take birth control? I hate fucking with condoms.”
“Yes,” I whispered, and there wasn’t an ounce of shame in my entire being when I studied the hard planes of his upper torso once his chest was exposed to the room.
Did I really just a sign a deal with a real-life Adonis?
“I’m gonna have a taste of that sweet cunt tonight,” Chan said, and one hand palmed himself over the front of his pants. “Bend over the couch for me, and keep your legs spread.”
“O-okay,” I agreed, hesitating because I wasn’t expecting him to move so fast, but I also knew that it was a foolish thought. What else should I have anticipated? There’s only one thing he wanted from me, and it’s not like it proceeded a romantic dinner or a long walk on the beach.
But it was still jarring to feel someone else’s hands on my hips - someone older and far more experienced. And his hands were proof of that confidence, perfectly assured in their motions as they drug my panties down my legs, fingers prodding against the folds of my labia. “You’re not wet enough,” Chan remarked, and I blushed because I was afraid that I had been doing something wrong. “We’ll just use lube.”
I flinched when I heard a loud POP! echo throughout the room when he opened a bottle from behind me. Then, I startled when something cold penetrated between my thighs because I wasn’t used to the overbearing sensation, and the flex of his fingers were incredibly thorough as they explored the private walls stretched around his intrusion. It felt nice, though, feeling him moving around, brushing against sensitive zones that had me moaning against the cushions.
“What a good slut,” Chan said, and I found myself whimpering at the derogatory term. “Let me use my cock instead.”
I gasped when his fingers disappeared in the middle of my approaching orgasm, leaving me clenching desperately for something to fill up the places that had left empty. But the sound of Chan shuffling out of his pants was reassuring, and he was nothing but teasing when he slid the head of his cock up and down my entrance. Spreading his pre-cum while prodding against me with the tip of his erection.
If I hadn’t been wet before, then I was positively drenching from the surprisingly playful foreplay. “Please,” I whined, and he must’ve been feeling merciful since it was our first meeting because he pushed himself the rest of the way inside between my walls with a grunt. Satisfying that persistent ache which demanded some sort of satisfaction from the fat cock splitting me with every aggressive plunge against my g-spot.
“There we go,” Chan hissed, and his fingernails dug into my skin while he rolled my hips back onto his cock - repeating the motion with a sensual rhythm that was slow but fulfilling. Deep and full. Pounding into my hips with every thrust and chanting obscenities into the air while the smell of sex hit me with as much force as his thighs knocking against mine. “Feels so good around me.”
I moaned at his husky tone, and slid further down the armrest of the couch because my clit was rubbing deliciously against the furniture that he had bent me over, and I focused on the addicting friction and the impression of his cock drilling inside my pussy until I came with a loud moan.
“Shit,” Chan cursed when I clenched even tighter around him, and the pleasure was like a dramatic rise - a climactic high - and I fell back into the moment with my heart pounding against my chest while Chan continued to plummet his cock into the stimulated entrance of my cunt before I felt his cum trickle down the inside of my legs.
“Good girl,” Chan said, and he landed a sharp slap to my ass before he was walking out of the room, stuffing his cock back into his pants while I looked down at my hands and wondered what I was supposed to do next.
And several long minutes passed before I realized that Chan wasn’t coming back, and I tried to ignore the sensation of his cum drying on my skin as I pulled my skirt back on over my sore hips.
Is this how it would be every time?
I grimaced at the thought, but I knew it was still a better alternative than returning home to my disappointed parents. Because Chan would at least help me stay in school, and he wasn’t really asking for that much in return.
Right?
But my heart was aching when I left his penthouse around midnight, returning to the shared apartment with my roommate and slinking into the shower while doing my best to remain quiet. Unfortunately, my thoughts were starting to become more rampant - louder than the prevailing silence - and I couldn’t stop thinking about the encounter with Chan. Because it was the second time that a random stranger had fucked me without consideration, and I would never forget how I felt in that moment, scalding my skin under hot water while scrubbing insistently with my fingernails scratching across my arms.
And I went to sleep that night thinking about the future for the first time since I lost my scholarship. For instance, how long would I have to keep doing this? Can it really end after my graduation?
Needless to say, I was unable to reacquaint myself with the familiar comforts of sleep, and I woke-up the next morning feeling like a much weaker version of myself. It was both a literal and metaphorical description for my current state of mind and physical being, and I forced myself to endure my regular routine so that I could leave for class on time.
But even as I was starting to feel better again, savoring the cool air of the morning as I walked through campus, everything was ruined when I received an unanticipated phone call from Chan around lunchtime:
“Can you come into my office today?” Chan asked, and I checked my watch.
“I can be there in twenty minutes.”
“Perfect,” Chan said, and I hung up the phone before jogging to the bus stop.

The Voyeur
Chan’s office building was extravagant, and I had trouble finding his company because it seemed like there was no end to the numerous corridors. Thankfully, a polite worker was willing to steer me in the right direction, and I greeted Chan’s secretary with a nervous exhale of my name.
“He’s waiting for you inside,” she said with a bright smile. “But make sure to lock the door behind you.”
“Oh, sure,” I said, puzzled by the strange request, but I entered the room with a dismissive shrug, glancing back to turn the lock before stumbling in my steps when I realized that someone who was not Chan stood in the middle of the room.
He was a younger associate, and his hair was slicked back with some kind of product as he observed me with the faintest hint of a smirk. “You must be Chan’s newest plaything.”
I gasped at the stranger’s words. “Chan-” I attempted to call for him, but cold fingers wrapped themselves around my throat in warning.
“Shhh,” Chan whispered into my ear, and I trembled when one of his hands went down to the waistband of my skirt. “You’re right on time, Y/N.”
“Sir,” I said, trembling when he found my clit through the fabric, applying rough circles with a growl.
“Go sit on top of the desk for me,” Chan said. “Take off your skit and panties.”
“But there’s someone else-”
“Did you not hear me?” Chan interrupted, and there was an intimidating warning in his eyes that I found myself unable to ignore.
“Yes, sir,” I said in compliance, and I tried not to think about the situation unfolding in front of me. Instead, I carefully walked around the unfamiliar man without making eye contact, even though his gaze was focused on me the entire time. “Is this what you wanted me to see?” the newcomer asked, and I startled at the sound of his voice as I slipped out of my clothes.
“I think she’s your type,” Chan said, and he nonchalantly strolled through the room with his hands tucked into his pockets. “This is what you like, Jisung? Sit back and relax.”
Jisung pursed his lips as he found a comfortable position on one of the futons, and I gasped when I realized that he had unzipped his pants, fishing out his cock while casually stroking the full length of his erection, gaze fixed on the place where Chan was standing in front of me.
“Bend over, whore,” Chan growled, and I turned around in an instant, shivering when he forced my legs to spread even further apart, applying pressure to my lower back as I arched even higher for him. “Have you ever seen a prettier cunt?”
“Finger her for me,” Jisung requested, and I closed my eyes when Chan penetrated three fingers inside at once. Because it was a distant shout from his treatment the previous night, and I found myself enduring the pain from being aggressively handled.
“Is this to your satisfaction?” Chan asked, and he was moving lightning fast, thrusting his fingers so fast that my body wasn’t sure how to process the rapidly growing pressure building with every curl of his wrist.
“Fuck her then,” Jisung said, and I could hear the slick sound of his hand moving on his cock to match the pace of Chan’s motions inside of me.
“No problem,” Chan said, and his cock replaced his fingers with one harsh plunge, forcing my hips to collide with the side of his desk as he started an unrelenting pace, hands holding tight to my waist as he treated me as nothing more than his personal cock-sleeve.
My pleasure wasn’t a concern, and I could tell because he never once asked me if I was feeling good. Instead, he panted like a dog into my ears, groping along my chest while rolling his hips up into mine - grinding his cock as deep as he could manage.
“Chan...” I trailed off at one point because there would surely be bruises once he was done with me.
“Is there a problem, Y/N?” he asked, and I quickly shook my head even as he started thrusting even harder, forcing his cock even deeper inside my gaping core - brushing against previously untouched places that awakened something almost feral.
“No, sir,” I managed, choking around a moan when his fingers tightened around my throat again.
“He likes to watch,” Chan whispered, slowing down to a sensual grind while he spoke to me. “It gets him off every time.”
“I didn’t know,” I said in return, even though no response was really warranted.
Especially when Chan leaned back once again, picking up from where he had left off from before, and there was a stuttered hiccup to the way he moved - like he was nearing his own breaking point. His fingers curled themselves into my hair, forcing my head to the side to meet Jisung’s unwavering gaze.
“Jisung,” Chan said, and the voyeur himself looked up at the two of us with lust reflecting in his eyes. “Is it everything you wanted?”
“Keep going,” Jisung simply said in return, and Chan was laughing in the moments preceding his orgasm, spilling his seed between my convulsing walls before pulling out with a groan.
“You did good, Y/N,” Chan said, and he reached down for my discarded skirt.
Meanwhile, I glanced around Chan to see Jisung reaching for the tissue box on the table. “Thank you for the show, Mr. Bang.” Jisung said, and he cleaned off his cock before tucking himself back into his jeans.

The Sadist
That unexpected situation should’ve been the first and only sign required for me to break off the engagement with Bang Chan, but I was starting to grow addicted to the ostentatious gifts that he sent me.
Because on that same afternoon, I returned to my apartment to find a brand new SUV waiting for me outside my complex. It was the newest model, and my roommate was hysterical with excitement as she jumped around the front lawn and told me all about how a random man had brought the car to our apartment asking for me.
“I don’t know who you’re seeing,” my roommate remarked. “But if he keeps doing this kind of thing...”
“Yeah,” I agreed with a faint smile, and there was still an active part of me that thought I could put up with Chan if it meant receiving things like this in return.
Plus, I somehow deluded myself into thinking that everything was fine, and I guess my lectures on argumentative writing must’ve worked too well because I convinced my stubborn brain to endure the arrangement for a little while longer.
It also helped that Chan hadn’t spoken to me much in the week following our little date in his office, and I was able to forget about the encounter with Jisung. Plus, my tuition was paid, my bank account was full, and there were always expensive things allowing me to take advantage of a lavish lifestyle.
It was hard to argue against the current trajectory of my situation, but there was still a painful reminder of its price when Chan eventually called me the following Friday with another request:
“I’m having a guest over tonight,” Chan said. “And you’re the entertainment.”
I swallowed hard at his brusque tone. “Entertainment?”
“It’s nothing to worry about,” Chan reassured me, and I could only process his words while the dial tone played in the background.
But maybe I could handle the addition of a guest, especially if it was just Jisung or someone watching again. That hadn’t been so bad, and the worst part was the initial shock of seeing another man in the same room.
Maybe I was just overreacting, and this would be a regular night where Chan would fuck me in his bed and I would limp home and sleep on the brand new satin comforter he had bought for me.
Unfortunately, my initial enthusiasm was dulled when I knocked on the door to Chan’s penthouse, and he answered my summons with another man lingering in the background. But the other man wasn’t Jisung, and a single chill rolled down my spine when Chan’s guest turned around to look at me for the very first time. “You’re early,” Chan said with a pleasant smile. “We were just pouring ourselves some drinks.”
“That sounds nice,” I said, allowing Chan to take my coat before he led me into the living room.
“This is my associate, Lee Minho,” Chan said, nodding in the direction of the freshly identified man who was unreasonably handsome as he sat down across the room.
“The pleasure is mine,” Minho said with a smirk, and I had no words to match his arrogance, but Chan pulled me into his lap and I took some strange comfort from his embrace.
“Minho and I have been friends for years.”
“What a tragedy,” Minho remarked, and the simple jest was met with a chuckle from Chan who wrapped an arm around my waist.
“He was really excited to meet you as well.”
“Especially after listening to Jisung run his mouth,” Minho said, and I froze at the mention of the other man because that was the moment when everything started to plummet, and I could see the change in Minho’s gaze as he lowered his eyes to my chest.
“Can I see her tits?” Minho asked, holding his glass of scotch in one hand while the other disappeared down the front of his pants.
“Of course,” Chan said, and he didn’t seem to care at all about his friend’s vulgar request, pulling me back against his chest as his fingers worked apart the buttons on my blouse. “She doesn’t mind. Isn’t that right, Y/N?”
I shook my head, paralyzed by Minho’s impenetrable gaze as he inhaled sharply when Chan removed the shirt from my arms. “Those are nice.”
“Aren’t they?” Chan agreed, and his fingers tweaked my nipples. But I shivered at the pressure, nearly jumping in his lap from the sudden stimulation as his thumbs rolled across the hardening buds.
“You ever fucked them before?” Minho asked, parting his lips around the rim of his glass.
“No,” Chan said, and his tone reflected his disappointment. “I guess I’ll have to try that in the future.”
“They’re a good size,” Minho remarked, and I couldn’t help but feel humiliated because they were talking about me in such a vulgar manner - like I was just a piece of meat on display for them.
“I like her tits,” Chan agreed. “But I think her ass is my favorite.”
Minho scoffed at that. “Isn’t that always your preference?”
“Why do you think I like fucking her from behind?” Chan laughed, and Minho smiled before draining the rest of his alcohol.
“Where did you get her?” Minho asked, and I watched as he removed his expensive suit jacket.
“Do you remember that website Jisung showed me?” Chan smirked. “It’s probably the best idea that he’s ever had.”
“Mhmm,” Minho agreed, and his lecherous eyes continued to openly stare at my breasts. “Has Changbin seen her yet?”
“No,” Chan said, and then he sighed. “I’m afraid to introduce them.”
“She’s exactly his type,” Minho remarked. “He’ll want to fuck her for sure, and I doubt you’ll tell him no.”
“He’s convincing,” Chan said, and he smirked while his lips pressed wet kisses against my neck and his hands massaged my breasts. “What would you want to do with her?”
“Me?” Minho chuckled, and his dark eyes were appraising. “I’d probably fuck her mouth, and then maybe cum on her tits.”
“That sounds reasonable,” Chan said, and then he was shoving against me from behind. “Get on your knees,” Chan growled into my ear, and I shivered at the guttural sound before falling from his lap and into the floor.
Meanwhile, Minho continued to watch me while stroking his cock, tongue darting out to wet his lower lip. “Is this an invitation?”
“Take her mouth,” Chan said, and he reached out for his discarded glass of brandy. “I don’t think she’ll mind.”
Minho smirked in response, and he pulled the occupied hand from his pants long enough to stand up from the couch, taking another step forward until his crotch was level with my face. “Is that true, little girl?” Minho asked, and I held my tongue when his fingers traced across my lips. “Do you want to suck my cock?”
I could feel Chan’s eyes on me, and I knew better than to disobey. “Yes,” I whispered, and Minho closed his eyes around a groan.
“Channie picked a good little cocksucker,” he said, and he quickly undid his pants, pulling them down his thighs along with his boxers. I inhaled when his cock was freed from the confines of his underwear, slapping against his stomach with a bead of pre-cum waiting on the tip. “Go ahead,” Minho said. “Let’s see what you can do for me.”
I swallowed hard, and I decided to start with a few strokes of his hardening erection - feeling the length of him under my hand because I knew that it would be painful to fit him inside my mouth. “Don’t tease,” Chan said, and I shivered at his harsh tone.
“I’m sorry,” I said, and I decided not to waste another moment before I was parting my lips around the head of Minho’s cock, tasting the gathered pre-cum on his tip. It was bitter because it was overwhelming, and my jaw was already aching as I hollowed my cheeks and tried to prevent my teeth from scraping across the sensitive underside of his erection.
“Harder,” Minho growled, and he reached down to grab fistfuls of my hair while forcing the remainder of his cock down my throat - triggering my gag reflex with the sudden motion.
“I guess she’s not used to it,” Chan remarked - like it wasn’t a big deal that I could barely breathe around the intrusion, and spit was dripping from my lips as he proceeded to use me like I was nothing more than a warm space to fill with his cock.
“I’ll teach her for you,” Minho said, but it wasn’t a kindness to feel the tip of his cock hit the soft palate of my mouth, dragging between my lips as he ground his hips while moaning around a curse.
But I still tried my best, sucking at the skin and using my tongue to trace against the ridges. I also kept my hands firmly behind my back, trying my best not to reach out for his thighs because I was afraid that he wouldn’t appreciate the feeling of my nails digging into my skin. Not that he seemed to be extending the same courtesy - fucking my mouth with loud grunts and tugging on my hair with enough force that my scalp was screaming for me to intervene.
“Does it feel good?” Chan asked.
“Oh, fuck yeah,” Minho said, and his eyes were glossy from the alcohol settling into his system and the approaching orgasm which I could taste as I tried my best to swallow around him.
And it was almost disorienting when he pulled himself free, keeping one hand in my hair while the other stared to stroke the length of his erection with rapid jerks. “Look at me,” Minho growled, and I forced my gaze to meet his own. “I’m gonna cum on your tits,” Minho snarled, twisting my hair as I did my best to nod around the impossible hold.
“Shit, that’s hot,” Chan whispered, and I closed my eyes when Minho finally came, spraying his hot cum across my chest as his thighs trembled from the effort.
“Damn,” Minho said, and he took a strategic step back to survey me from afar. “She looks better this way.”
“I definitely agree,” Chan said, but I only felt disgusting as I sat there on my knees with their eyes observing my wilted figure.

The Participant
For an entire week after my encounter with Minho, every time I spoke, or did something as simple as drink or eat with my friends, I was reminded of him.
It wasn’t necessarily the worst thing that had ever happened to me, and I couldn’t deny that there was a small part of me that had been aroused at the idea of Minho’s rough treatment. But the problem emerged from the lack of disclosure from Chan because he seemed to take impressive liberties with the contract. And I didn’t mind having sex with the older man since I gave him my full consent, but these surprises that he sprung on me when I wasn’t expecting them? I wasn’t entirely happy about those.
In fact, the more that I thought about the incident with both Minho and Jisung, the more infuriated I became, and I couldn’t help the brusque tone that I used to greet Chan over the phone when he randomly contacted me the following weekend.
“Someone’s having a bad day,” Chan said, and I didn’t appreciate his accompanying laughter.
“It’s just my classes,” I offered as a response, pinching the bridge of my nose to try and prevent an oncoming headache.
“I hope it’s not too bad because I’d like for you to meet me in the office,” Chan said, and I agreed without really thinking about the consequences. Because the last time I went to Chan’s office, I found myself being fucked on top of his desk with an executive watching in the background.
But I guess this was what I had literally signed up for, and Chan couldn’t possibly know that I hated our most recent encounters because I still wasn’t able to find the confidence to tell him. And maybe it was better this way since our arrangement was nothing but a superficial agreement between two consenting adults - we were both getting something out of it, and I didn’t want to risk losing the invaluable funding that he sent to my stunningly healthy bank account.
Instead, I put on my best smile for him when I walked into his office, greeting him at his Secretary’s desk as she offered me a courteous welcome. Does she know what’s going on? I wondered to myself when Chan took my hand and led me to the giant executive desk where he worked.
He chuckled when he patted his lap, and I dropped my bag onto the floor before dropping myself down between his strong thighs. “There you are,” Chan said with a smirk, tracing the pout of my lips with his thumb. “You look sexy today.”
“Thank you,” I said, and I hated to sound so timid in front of him, but he was still beyond intimidating, and I never knew what to expect from someone who continued to surprise me.
“I’ve missed you,” Chan said, and I hesitated when his hands found the hem of my t-shirt, crawling along the skin of my torso to hold me in place. “Last time was really fun.”
“Yeah,” I agreed, but it wasn’t very convincing. Thankfully, Chan didn’t seem to notice, and he brought me in for a sloppy kiss so that I could taste the mouth wash on his tongue.
“Let’s take a walk around the office,” Chan said, and I agreed because it seemed relatively normal in comparison to what he usually asked from me.
It was also startling domestic to hold his hand as he walked me through the maze of cubicles, talking about taxes and the stock market and whatever else he found interesting. In response to most of his conversation, I found myself nodding because I couldn’t comprehend his big text jargon or the complicated explanation when it involved his return on investment numbers.
“How about some lunch?” Chan suggested, and I agreed even though my stomach had twisted itself into knots during the ride over here.
However, when Chan reached out to hit the button to call for the elevator, he paused when he made eye-contact with someone walking out of the conference room. He sighed as he turned me around. “This is awkward,” Chan said, and I noticed that the tips of his ears were bright red. “I may have shown Changbin some pictures of you and....” Chan trailed off with a smile. “He really liked what I showed him.”
“Changbin?” I questioned, and Chan jerked his head to the side to indicate the exceedingly handsome gentleman who was lingering outside of the conference room with his eyes glued in our direction.
“Changbin really likes you,” Chan whispered, smiling as he allowed one hand to fall down and palm my ass.
I heard a sharp intake of breath, and I felt my entire face flush when I realized that it had come from Changbin. He was brazenly eye-fucking me from where he was standing, and I couldn’t even imagine the dirty thoughts running through his mind.
“He wants to fuck you,” Chan continued as if we were having a conversation about something as casual as the weather. “And I kinda want to see him pound this little pussy.”
He then audaciously cupped the heat between my legs and I squirmed around in his arms because we were in public. “What are you doing?” I asked, and there was every reason to panic when anyone could see us like this - when Changbin was already looking at us like we were incredibly interesting.
“He’s got a really big cock,” Chan added like that was supposed to convince me. “But I know that you’ll do it for me, right?”
I hesitated at his request, glancing back over my shoulder at Changbin who was still watching the two of us with a predatory gaze. “When?”
“Tonight,” Chan said before pressing a surprisingly gentle kiss to my lips. “I’ll have something nice sent to your apartment. Wear it for us, won’t you?”
“Of course,” I agreed, and the response sounded robotic even to my own ears.
Tumblr media
True to his word, Chan had sent over a rather scandalous pair of lingerie to my apartment - a matching set of underwear that included a red thong and delicate bralette with lace elegantly lining the comfortable padding. There was also a very short black shirt in the package and a thin camisole which wasn’t meant to cover much of me. And I grimaced at my reflection in the mirror when I realized that I looked like someone out of Chan’s wet dream.
But instead of walking through campus with such an appearance, I had wrapped my scantily-clad form in a long coat when I greeted Chan that night outside of his apartment, hoping that he wouldn’t question my desire to ride the bus in something more appropriate for public viewing. But maybe he was too turned on to scold me, dragging me inside his apartment and closing the door before opening the front of my coat.
“Fuck,” he growled when he saw me in my outfit. “You look so good in this.”
“Thank you,” I whispered in return, and Chan tossed aside my coat while reaching down for my hand.
“There’s no reason to delay tonight’s fun,” he commented. “Changbin’s already waiting in the bedroom,” he said.
I swallowed hard the mention of the other man, trying to piece together my disorganized thoughts when Chan invited me inside the lavish bedroom that was the exact same size as my entire apartment. But I also wasn’t surprised by the ostentatious reminder of his tremendous wealth, especially when I realized that there was someone waiting inside just as Chan had promised. The same man from earlier at the office was sitting in a chair near the corner of the room, dressed in his work suit and looking at me from beneath a fringe of blonde hair while his fingers tightened around his whisky glass.
“You were so patient, Bin,” Chan remarked as he reached down to remove his shirt.
“I think she’s worth it,” Changbin replied, and I tried not to squirm too much under his impenetrable gaze.
“What do you think of her outfit?” Chan asked, and he smirked while squeezing my ass through the skit.
“I’d rather see what’s underneath,” Changbin said, and his attitude was so nonchalant that I couldn’t deny that a small part of me was attracted to his eagerness.
“That can be arranged,” Chan agreed, and I held perfectly still as he removed my tank top before jerking my skirt down my thighs.
He didn’t even need to tell me to step out of the offending piece of fabric, sliding it across the floor as I stood in front of Changbin in nothing more than the skimpy lingerie that Chan had chosen for me. “Damn,” Changbin grumbled, and one hand slid down his chest before settling on top of the obvious bulge in his pants.
“Shall we start?” Chan grinned, and I watched as he walked over to the bed to make himself more comfortable on top of the mattress before holding out his arms for me. “Come here, Y/N.”
I nodded, crawling over the silken sheets while Chan whispered compliments into the silent bedroom. “She’s so fucking hot,” Changbin remarked, and I held my breath when Chan used his raw strength to turn me around - bringing my back flush against his chest as one arm wrapped itself across my chest. I shivered in response to his impressive muscles, pressing myself even closer to him while his other hand crept down to remove my panties
“Look at this,” Chan whispered, ripping the fabric and exposing my bottom half for Changbin’s eyes. “Such a pretty cunt.”
Changbin inhaled sharply at the exposed skin, and he stood from the chair to walk over the edge of the bed. I closed my eyes because he was shameless, palming his erection over his pants while his eyes glued themselves between my thighs. “Spread her legs for me.”
Chan nodded, and I could feel the way his fingers parted the wet folds of my labia before he drug his thumb along my sensitive clitoris.
“Oh, fuck,” Changbin growled, and his eyes were bright with lust as Chan continued to tease my throbbing sex while mouthing kisses against my throat.
“Do you see something you like?” Chan asked his friend as if the question was even necessary.
“Let me fuck her, Chan,” Changbin snarled, and I watched as he unzipped his suit pants before dropping them to the floor along with his boxer shorts, fisting his cock in one hand while the other worked at the buttons on his shirt.
“I don’t know...” Chan trailed off with a teasing tone. “I’m not really in the mood to share.”
“We both know that's a lie,” Changbin said with a humorless laugh. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
I bit my tongue to hold back a moan when one of Chan’s fingers penetrated my tight walls, putting on a show for Changbin as he maintained eye contact with his business partner. It was like they were engaged in some sort of competition over me, and I was melting from Chan’s ministrations, feeling him move around with his fingers curling against all the right spots. He also started to scissor his fingers to stretch me out in preparation for whatever else might happen, and Changbin whimpered as he continued to stroke his hand up and down the impressive length of his throbbing cock.
“I guess you can have it,” Chan said, and I yelped when he shoved me off his lap, tossing his legs over the side of the bed. “Hands and knees,” Chan barked, slapping my ass for good measure before he walked over to the same chair in the corner of the room. “You’ll be a good slut for Changbin.”
I whimpered at the rough treatment, and I tried to avoid Changbin’s gaze as I positioned myself on the center of the bed, dropping down onto my forearms while I raised my ass high in the air. I was breathing hard against the sheets, feeling my pulse skyrocket when the bed dipped beneath Changbin’s weight as he mounted me from behind.
“Are you ready for me?” he asked, and I shook my head when he started to grope my ass, pulling apart my cheeks as his fingers prodded against the dripping entrance to my cunt. “Say my name, slut!”
I nearly screamed from the force of the slap he landed on my ass, and I took a deep breath to manage the pain. “Please, Changbin,” I sniffled, and there was nothing but blinding hot pleasure when he rubbed the tip of his cock up and down my slit.
However, he wasn’t nearly as patient as Chan, and I was shaking around the abrupt intrusion of his cock. He also wasn’t gentle, holding my hips with a bruising grip before he fucked his cock inside my wet heat, leaving me no room to breathe before he was driving his hips against mine like there wasn’t enough time in the world to split me open for him. “Shit,” Changbin hissed, and I was powerless when he shoved my face down into the pillows, forcing me back into an even deeper arch.
“Play nice, Bin,” Chan said, and I could barely spot him from the corner of my eye. “You know I don’t like it when you break my toys.”
“Can’t help it,” Changbin grunted, and I could feel the fat head of his cock brushing against my cervix.
“She feels good right?” Chan asked, and I finally located him, following his voice to see that he was rubbing his erection through the tented fabric of his pants.
“Her cunt is tight,” Changbin agreed, and he wasn’t even thrusting anymore; instead, he was manhandling me up and down his cock, slamming his hips against mine and filling the room with the sounds of wet slaps and crude moans as he chased his own pleasure.
He was fucking me like a madman, breath hot on the back of my neck. Everything was fast and hard, and the sound of the headboard hitting the wall was especially loud. “Fuck,” Changbin muttered, and I thought he might be slowing down, but he just adjusted his grip and set a brutal pace and fucked me even harder.
It was all too much, and I wasn’t expecting to come, but when he lifted one of my legs for a better angle, I felt a sudden wave of arousal drip around Changbin’s thick erection because he was scraping across my G-spot with every stroke. I moaned at the direct stimulation, and it felt like there was an impossible pressure building at the center of my abdomen, stretching and stretching until my vision nearly blacked out from the intensity of my orgasm.
“Yes!” Changbin groaned when I inadvertently squeezed around his cock even tighter, providing enough pressure to trigger his own orgasm. And I could feel his warm cum as it decorated the cavern of my pussy, escaping the place where we were connected with a squelching sound when he eventually pulled out.
“What a mess,” Chan groaned.
“Such a good little whore,” Changbin purred, reaching down to stuff his cum back inside where it belonged. I whined at the over-stimulation, but Changbin growled in response and slapped my ass hard. “I want one more round,” Changbin declared, leaving me lying on the bed as he rolled over to the side.
“Sure,” Chan agreed, and I felt his hand soothing along the side of my face as he wiped away my tears. “How long do you need to get it back up, old man?”
“Shut up,” Changbin muttered. “Give me ten minutes.”
‘Well, that’s all I need,” Chan remarked, and I whimpered when he took his turn to mount me from behind, twisting his fingers into my hair as he slid his cock inside with one hard thrust, grinding his hips in long, sensual circles while whispering the filthiest words into my ears.

Present
It wasn’t very much like me to reveal all those intimate secrets, but something about Seungmin’s presence was safe and comforting. “What an asshole,” Seungmin remarked, discarding a fresh cigarette that he hadn’t even bothered lighting before returning his attention to me. “You deserve so much better than him.”
“He pays for everything,” I said. “He pays for my tuition, and he sends checks for the rent...”
“So?” Seungmin scoffed. “I can help you get a job at the diner where I work. You can make enough money to pay for those things without him.”
“It’s just so hard...” I broke off with a sudden exclamation, and my emotions were spilling out despite my attempts to suppress them, holding Seungmin even closer by the collar of his jacket as I sobbed into his shoulder. “He owns me.”
“No, he doesn’t, Y/N,” Seungmin said with a firm tone. “Do you understand me?”
I shook my head. “I signed a contract!”
“Every contract has a loophole,” Seungmin said. “And I’m sure it expires at some point, or you can negotiate your way out of the terms!”
“He’s a businessman,” I argued. “There’s no way I can win.”
“Not with that attitude,” Seungmin said with a fierce look. “You’re not alone, Y/N. I’ll even help you figure out how to leave him, but that’s what you need to do because this relationship is not good for you!”
“I kept telling myself that I didn’t care,” I whispered, sighing when Seungmin carded his fingers through my hair. “I guess I cared too much.”
“It’s alright,” Seungmin said, holding me close as he spoke reassurances into my stubborn ears.
“I’m scared, Seungmin,” I told him, and he nodded.
“I’ll give you all my strength,” he promised, and the sincerity of his words triggered a fresh wave of tears, and I cried while thinking about the difficult situation that I found myself in.
The idea of Chan’s arrangement had once been enchanting because everything he promised seemed like a dream come true. But the reality was nothing short of a nightmare. And I was suddenly desperate to escape.

Love Me Tinder - @doubleredweek Day 5
Read on AO3
Roy doesn’t know why, but he’s fairly certain that Jason Todd is trying to kill him. There’s no other explanation for the scene before him. Firefighters don’t actually do this; he should know he’s been one since he decided to drop the sidekick gig at eighteen and never once before has he seen a firefighter actually wear nothing but tight-fitting jeans and suspenders while washing one of the firetrucks.
It’s just not something they actually do except maybe for the annual charity calendar which it’s nowhere near being the time for that photoshoot and no one has a camera. Well no one except those two girls he saw across the street about twenty minutes ago that were definitely not being subtle as they took a few shots he’s sure will make their way onto Instagram and then from there turn up in some tabloid later.
He can see the headline now: Bruce Wayne’s sexy ward gets wet. It’s like a bad porn he kind of wishes he was starring in.
For a brief only slightly insane moment he contemplated chasing after the two women and asking them to forward him whatever videos and photos they took for his own personal use. Luckily his logical brain took over for his horny brain before he could do anything so absurd.
Roy lets out a literal groan when Jason pauses in his work and runs a soapy wet hand through his hair the little white streak near the front being pushed all the way back.
“Go to your bunk if your gonna start making noises like that,” Dick says as he leaps up beside him twisting himself into an impossible sitting position on the picnic table out in front of the station that Roy’s been happily planted at for forty-five minutes now pretending he’s reading the book in his hand.
Haley, their own personal little firehouse mascot comes trotting out. She pushes up with her three strong legs and settles on the bench beside him.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Roy says indignantly looking down at his book that he realizes now is definitely upside down. Dick chuckles clearly seeing the realization cross his face. Roy hastily flips the book right side up ignoring his best friend.
“If you’re gonna ogle at least make your decoy convincing,” Dick says reaching down and picking up Haley cradling her in his arms like a baby.
“I am not ogling your brother,” Roy huffs casting his eyes down to his book. He starts reading and realizes he has no clue what’s going on, he’s pretty sure he just kept turning pages to seem like he was accomplishing anything but daydreaming about Jason’s six pack.
“You are totally ogling my brother,” Dick says as he starts literally rocking Haley to sleep. “You should just ask him out already, I’m like 99% certain he’d say yes.”
Roy gives up on his book tossing it off to the side. The thud of it against the table disturbs Haley from her drifting slumber the small grey pup giving him a warning look. He scratches behind her left ear the way she loves in apology before looking up at Dick.
“You want me to ask out your little brother?” he says in disbelief. He always assumed Dick would be very much against the concept of his best friend and his little brother.
Dick just shrugs. “Yeah, why not? Little Wing’s been a hell of lot better off since he finally quit the whole Outlaw gig and if it weren’t for him randomly running into you that never would have happened. Your good for him and considering how lovesick you look all the time when he’s around I’d say he could be pretty good for you too.”
Three years ago on a random chilly Gotham night Roy walked his way into a hostage situation by accident, the infamous Red Hood had broken it up, but not without a little help from the former Speedy.
Jason had been grateful for the help, but behind those eyes he could also see a hell of a lot else going on. He looked tired, worn down by life. Roy knew the look well; it had hit him before he could even legally rent a car. Mostly Jason looked like he could use a friend, so Roy decided then and there to be one.
Within the year Roy knew more about Jason’s life since being brought back from the dead than even his own brother and six months after that he’d convinced Jason he didn’t have to hit the streets anymore if he didn’t want to.
Getting him the training and into the vacancy in their firehouse had been easy with Dick vouching for him as well.
“Batman might beat me up though,” Roy says leaning back and finally letting his eyes stray back to Jason who it seems has sadly finished his job. A dry t-shirt now covering his Adonis like chest, suspenders hanging at his sides.
Dick whacks him on the shoulder with a huff. “Batman will not beat you up, I’ll beat up Batman if he even thinks about it.”
Roy chuckles at that his eyes still following Jason as he talks to a few of the other guys.
“Okay, since you’re willing to protect me from the big bad bat I’ll ask him to have dinner or something sometime,” Roy concedes looking at Dick with a ‘does that make you happy’ face.
“Fantastic,” he says with a big grin slapping Roy on the shoulder once before tumbling gracefully off the picnic table to stand in front Roy, Haley still perfectly held in his arms. “I got a shift with the other job,” he says with a wink lifting his shirt to reveal the Kevlar of his Nightwing costume. Roy gives him a playful salute that Dick returns as he wanders over past Jason.
“Hey Jay!” he shouts as he passes him by. “Roy wants to ask you something!” And then he’s off blowing Roy a condescending kiss before he disappears into the firehouse.
Jason turns his attention to Roy those perfectly white teeth showing as he makes his way over to the bench. He sits down straddling the same side of the table where Roy sits those tight pants stretching perfectly over Jason’s thick thighs that have been the star of some of Roy’s most pleasant dreams of late.
“What’s up?” he says ruffling out his rapidly drying hair. He’s so bright, so much happier than the fatigued anti-hero Roy met all that time ago.
He’s also annoyingly handsome with his hair sticking up in an array of directions from drying in the hot summer sun. Roy thought being best friends with an absolute smoke show for years was frustrating, this is so much worse. One day he wants to ask Bruce if there’s some sort of pre-requisite that Robin’s needed to look like they’d grow up insanely handsome to get the job.
For a moment Roy pauses and considers chickening out, Dick ran off so it’s not like he can force this to happen.
The thing is Roy really wants this to happen, plus Dick will continue to stick him in situations like this if he doesn’t just bite the bullet so he takes a deep breath and the biggest leap he’s taken since he was literally jumping across rooftops.
“You want to get dinner with me some time?” he asks holding his gaze with Jason those blue green eyes of his shimmering in the slowly waning evening sun.
Jason squints one eye at him the start of a smile on his lips. “Dinner as in a date or dinner as in two friendly firefighting friends?”
Roy smiles. “While I find your alliteration fun I was thinking of it more as a date.”
Jason’s half smile grows full and he swings one leg over the bench. “Sounds great, it’s about time you asked.”
He stands and starts walking backwards eyes still on Roy’s.
“Well you could have asked me,” Roy says holding his hands up in a why not gesture.
“Pfft,” Jason says still cautiously walking backwards. “I’m way too emotionally stunted for that and you know it.”
Roy huffs out a little laugh kind of in awe that Jason had ever considered asking him out first.
“You still off shift Friday?” he asks just as Jason has one leg in firehouse the other out.
“Yep.”
“Good, I’ll pick you at seven,” Roy says catching Jason’s bright smile and nod of agreement before he disappears inside the firehouse. Roy opens back up his book with a smile starting it from the beginning knowing good and well he won’t comprehend a single word of it once again. Just this time his distraction won’t be watching Jason, it’ll be thinking about Friday.

haikyuu!! third gym squad taking the ib diploma programme
Tumblr media
ok... my friend and i got rlly stressed the other day and made headcanons for these guys if they were to take classes in the ib... it’s like a levels but like... a bit more death!
for my ib diploma folks you can just hop on over and read what i’ve hc’d but for my non-ib folks, lemme give you a bit of an introduction to the ib diploma programme.
characters included: bokuto koutarou, kuroo tetsurou, akaashi keiji, tsukishima kei, haiba lev, hinata shouyou
Tumblr media
THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME is a rigorous two-year pre-college program in your last two years of high school. a full programme consists of one class from each of the six required groups (totalling to 6 classes), which are G1 - first language; G2 - second language; G3 - social sciences; G4 - natural sciences; G5 - mathematics; and G6 - arts (though, arts is optional, and can be switched out with another subject from G3 or G4).
within these six courses, students are required to take at least three high-level (HL) courses and three standard level courses (SL), but some students may take four HL courses and have two SL courses (kind of a rough one tho).
just to note: there’s two types of math courses - applications and interpretations (Math AI) and analysis and approaches (Math AA). MAA courses are known to be harder than MAI courses because students do more theory work and have non-calculator sections in exams, unlike MAI courses where calculators are required for every exam. also, it is possible for a person to take IB courses instead of the full diploma programme, but i’m not very well acquainted with that variation of the IB programme so we’re just going to assume all the boys got 6 courses.
okay. i am so sorry i just lectured you on a whole school curriculum. anyways. back to haikyuu!!
Tumblr media
BOKUTO KOUTAROU : Japanese Language and Literature HL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Geography HL, SEHS (Sports, Exercise, and Health Science) HL, Math AI SL, Economics SL
ok so it’s canon that this dude is not doing very well in math but his parents made him do higher level math at first poor boy >:(
he started the year off in higher level and thought he was gonna be fine
no. he was not fine.
so he ended up switching his math hl to sl and his japanese sl to hl
IT IS CANON (special chapter in volume 19 titled “i just forgot” where bokuto has a wholeass crisis about words) that bokuto’s really one to actually really like to think about how words work and function as systems in the same way ib language courses do!!
actually having him do japanese ll hl is just an excuse for me to keep him in math sl sorry
i mean koutarou may be my fav tax evader but he really did sit through two years worth of econ classes... smh
mans is Not listening and has to rely on yukie for notes but he just memorises case studies for exams and does not do anything else
i feel like he just takes mandarin because he thought it was the easiest one... he also thinks the words sound similar so it’s easy to memorise
he’s a pretty good communicator so he practices his mandarin quite a lot. as in, he’s made friends to talk to in mandarin. we love to see it!!!
also. um. i hc that he’s pretty decent at memorisation so geography!! this goes for memorising all the kanji and mandarin characters too
i think SEHS is pretty self-explanatory. mans already known he wanna be a pro athlete might as learn about being healthy as an athlete
Tumblr media
KUROO TESTUROU : Japanese Language and Literature SL, English B SL, Business Management HL, Chemistry HL, Math AI HL, Biology HL
now... we all know this mf been taking chemistry hl. it is CANON
and as per his career path... DEFINITELY business management hl
i feel like he’s so analytical in the way he sees things that he likes to explore many areas of knowledge where there are different ways of thinking
takes english as a second language because... whew.. aint it sexy when mans wanna be multifaceted in business
also takes higher level biology because he’d rather not with the languages... but later on i believe he ends up in a higher level language class because he might as well
i feel like kuroo’s classes just give me a vibe i know too too well...
mans takes math ai. he does not wanna fuck around with a pencil proving a theorem he just wants the answer bro
like in volleyball, he’s a quick thinker. so he’s pretty g with math and business stuff
i literally know someone with this class combo ... it’s not very chill but it screams “you never see me do any course work but i always get at least a B+ in every subject”
Tumblr media
AKAASHI KEIJI :  Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AA SL, Visual Arts HL
now... this subject combo radiates such pretty energy
pretty subjects for a pretty boy
he was originally going to do biology sl but then found out there is chemistry in biology so he just decided with chemistry. plain and simple.
we all know akaashi is both emotionally and academically intelligent
he’s logical and analytical, and when faced with a tough time he works through it well albeit going through a little bit of struggle
this automatically puts him in math aa... i just see him actually liking proving theorems???
but maybe he just thinks his calculator is a nuisance sometimes and would rather solve everything by hand
also art boy! this dude likes graphic design more but when it comes to traditional art he does Not Hold Back
i like to think that he’s into painting backgrounds and mixed media
if he didn’t take VA, i’m pretty sure he would take economics. because. it’s quite systematic and i think akaashi would take a liking to it
as for japanese ll hl... we all know this dude was supposed to be a part of the literary section in a magazine/manga company but was moved to editor
goes hand-in-hand with psychology, likes to know how words convey meaning and how they affect people
he also thinks french is kind of a cool language. i feel like this guy just wants to do it because it sounds cool and novel for him
all in all, pretty solid subject combo!
Tumblr media
TSUKISHIMA KEI : Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, History HL, Biology SL, Math AA HL, Instrumental Music HL
4 hl’s... here we are folks
honestly does it for colleges to go like “holy shit this dude is kinda crazy”
but does suffer... coursework tings :)
first of all this dude takes french (even though it’s a beginner’s class) because he just loves to sound cool huh
the summer before his courses started he would have had the basics down after looking through free ib textbooks
plus, being the guy that’s super good at a new language in the class is a huge ass flex and a big ass ego boost. and anyways, with language, he thinks it’s just a lot of simple patterns working together.
this also applies to japanese ll hl... finds writing essays and making arguments ez (at least that’s what he tells himself - he’s kinda nervous when it comes to japanese but he holds on anyway)
practices extra hard on pronunciation. sounds hot tho
math aa hl??? there we go. another crazy one. thought he could ace the class at first.... no. no he couldn’t
thinks about moving down to sl. probably does. (at least it’s not math ai)
history and biology go hand in hand for him. he has significant interests in prehistoric times, and likes to learn about the origins of life - that’s a given
but he does get tired of the politics talk in history like... goddamn all these people making so many mistakes? just stop making them smh
and instrumental music was just something he got onto because he really would like to just have a course where he could enjoy himself while also learning about the stuff he likes
nobody knows what music he listens to... but i think he’s willing to listen to anything as long as it’s music and it has the kinds of vibes he digs
Tumblr media
HAIBA LEV: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AI HL, Theatre HL
i don’t know how to explain it but lev has such strong psych and chem energy
yes haiba lev’s classes are the ones i picked via roulette wheel
jk not really
here’s the thing though, lev takes psychology because he thinks econ, business management, history, ess, all that jazz is just... absolutely boring. like. super. mf-ing. boring.
so he’s like ooh cognitive processes!
kinda hates that he has to study research methods and research methods ONLY at first but when he gets the hang of it he really finds it one of his fav subs
i actually have no explanation for mandarin ab initio sl... he just seemed like the kind of guy who would wanna do the class solely because he thinks mandarin sounds cool with their intonations and everything
plus he heard that the teacher gives mooncakes every lunar new year ad he. loves. them.
okay now hear me out.
lev is good at math.
maybe not lightning speed analysis or calculations like akaashi, but he finds solving problems fun! except for when they’re without a calculator bc he HATES doing calculations by hand
he can get a bit clumsy with his hand calculations too so it’s nice to just have a calculator on hand
literally only does math ai for the sake of using a calculator at all times (a/n: i take this class, and this was the reason i took it too. COMPLETELY VALID)
and then does theatre for the fun of it!!! confidence levels high for presentations and performances... good fit
kinda thought that ib theatre would be his easy A but oh how he was wrong... hates the research tasks at first but he gets used to it
Tumblr media
HINATA SHOUYOU: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Portuguese Ab Initio SL, SEHS HL, Geography HL, Math AI SL, Theatre HL
his classes are bokuto energy but with theatre and portuguese
MANGA SPOILERS! we all know he started thinking abt going to brazil in his second year of high school, and the ib diploma programme starts in the last two years of high school so it fits PERFECTLY
lowkey most of the boys take japanese ll sl because they just. have to.
this is also hinata’s case <3
SEHS HL!!! he has a vision for the future and it definitely involves him understanding health and sports and everything like that, especially after nationals in his first year :(((( still sad abt that
but he’s motivated for this higher level class because he’s really just gonna go all out with the research
math ai sl because... he prolly don’t give a fuck about numbers!!! (it hasn’t been made clear already, but math ai sl is the lowest level math course)
he also took theatre hl because even though he does get scared at first, he’s a natural when it comes to learning new cultures
he’s just so curious about it all and it makes him quite engaged in the class as well!!!!
also kinda took theatre because the other subjects were just not it for him
about geography... he hates memorisation but he also hates everything else in the social studies group so
he just gets by by trying to find the little details of the things he’s studying interesting because really... geography class is just the base of all the places on his bucket list
hinata’s def one of those dudes who picks his subs purely off of liking because we all know he’s going. any subject that isn’t based off of liking is usually a mandatory subject anyways

Ethan + MC: “I Do” P1
Summary: Dr. Valentine’s residency comes to an end along with a loveless relationship. An encounter at the bar leads to a heavy discussion with Ethan Ramsey, practically a stranger to her once again.
Inspired by I Do by Jessie Reyez
“Would you give me your heart again Or at least let me borrow it? If I could just see you / we don't even have to talk I'll take an argument”
Warnings: Is angst a warning? This is a lot of dialogue, but with purpose!
Word Count: 3350
Dr. Valentine; it was a title and though quite worn out, it was also the only thing anyone called her. It hardly felt like a name anymore, but her work was her life, and it was the one she had chosen for herself. She knew who that made her sound like, and part of her felt bitter for it.
For a really long time, her optimism stuck and she believed it was possible to find some balance with work and following her dreams. But each year she forgot more of those dreams, and every thought in her head was about medicine and how much sleep she could get on her days off. Of course she had her friends, but there were so many other distractions.
It was almost laughable that she had found a relationship with someone so quickly in the beginning of her residency. She never spoke about it aloud, but when Emmanuel had found her in the midst of pursuing Ethan Ramsey, she knew he would be temporary. It was strange how temporary turned into two years and then one day he was leaving and Valentine was... relieved?
She didn’t like that about herself, that all of her emotions had become surface level. Emmanuel tried searching for something deeper, but she was too exhausted to find it within herself. What if her story was always so passionless? It kept her up at night, and that was how she kept a semblance of a spark that she used to call hope. If she could fear the disconnect to her own emotions, then those emotions still existed.
Fear was better than nothing.
“How are you still so beautiful when you frown that much?” Jackie lamented, staring at her reflection in her phone screen, searching for imaginary wrinkles.
Valentine laughed, an honest one, and pushed the rest of her drink towards Jackie. “How are you the only resident who still looks sexy in scrubs?”
Jackie rolled her eyes but set her phone, slumping in the booth with the drink in her hand. “Point taken. But I suppose we’re not here to talk about me, even though we barely ever talk about me.”
Valentine smiled apologetically and tried not to let the comment get to her. Jackie meant well, and wasn’t truly bothered by the lack of time together lately. They were all busy. But she had heard similar comments from most of her friends and it was just another reminder that she was failing people who cared about her.
“I didn’t think this was where I would be, three years ago. I’m scared of ending residency because none of it felt real, like I just... floated on through it.” It was hard to admit those things because once they left her lips, they sounded so trivial. Most people wanted out of residency; they wanted something more.
“You need something new, so do I. We weren’t supposed to be the same people by the end of this, and you should just be thankful this didn’t last longer. Bryce still has three years, feel bad for him.”
At least Bryce staying meant that she still had a friend at Edenbrook, considering that Jackie’s fellowship meant she was leaving the state in July. But that was hard to talk about, especially after a drink.
“Do you think Dr. Ramsey still thinks about you?”
It was an unexpected question, but the timing aligned perfectly with Jackie’s eyes finding a focal point across the room. Valentine didn’t turn her head, she didn’t have to. Her pulse immediately quickened but she kept her expression stoic, frustrated that her body dared to react.
“Jackie, stop staring,” she warned.
“I can’t help it, he keeps looking over here and it’s freaking me out. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; you did something to break that man.”
She had said it before, many times, but not for some time. They worked in a large hospital, and once Valentine left diagnostics, they spoke a lot less. How long had it been since they’d spoke? Six months? She hadn’t seen him in a bar in over a year, not that she went out often herself. She didn’t dare assume, but she figured his life had been just as stagnant as hers was.
“I didn’t break him. He’s Ethan Ramsey, he’s always brooding for some reason or another.” Jackie ignored her and looked back over at Ethan, a small smirk on her lips.
“How did you ever stop chasing after that man? Aside from his terrible personality, obviously.” Jackie liked to say things like that, partially because his personality was a bit jaded, but also because she thought it made her friend feel better.
“It was his turn to chase me for a change, and someone else beat him to it. Not that I can vouch for that logic, because two years later, I’m alone again. maybe I was better off chasing a fantasy,” she grumbled.
“Fuck,” Jackie whispered, her gaze flicking back to her friend.
“Sorry, I know I’m being all dark and--” Jackie placed a hand on top of hers and made a shushing sound.
“I’m on call, I just felt my pager,” she said apologetically.
“You just drank four vodka cranberries and you didn’t bring your wallet, let alone a pager.” But Jackie was already slipping out of the booth, chugging the rest of her drink before kissing Valentine’s cheek goodbye.
“See you at home,” she said with a wink. And then she was gone.
She felt his presence before even looking up from the table, but she still pretended not to notice anyways. She wasn’t ready, every time Ethan found her in the bar always led to something complex. It almost felt unreal, as though she were reliving a memory, or many.
“Dr. Valentine,” he said smoothly, so formal and yet she still suppressed a shiver.
“Ethan, it’s good to see you.”
It wasn’t as though she’d forgotten his face, he did still work in the same building as her. There was just something different about seeing him outside of work, in the midst of her life changing in so many ways. She used to mourn their time together outside of work, even if things as small as seeing him smile for no one else but her. She was the one that stepped back, and yet her biggest fear used to be of being replaced.
Watching him slide into the booth across her felt somewhat unnatural. When had they become strangers? She flinched, unnoticeably subtle, when his leg bumped into herself under the table. If he noticed he didn’t react to it.
She was embarrassed at her body’s natural reaction to his presence, but pushed back the misery that threatened to overwhelm her thoughts. Two years ago she would have been destroyed to know how their ease with each other would one day be severed.
“I can leave if Dr. Varma is coming back, I just wanted to check on you I suppose.” He sounded more tentative than normal, maybe conscious of the turmoil in her head.
“She’s heading home,” she replied plainly. The more she spoke, the more her anxiety would overtake her voice. She wouldn’t let him see her falter, not until he gave her a reason to.
“Were you two celebrating? I’m sure you were accepted for whatever fellowship you wanted.”
He either figured she was a fool, or he had no shame in knowing she could see past his lame attempt at small talk. Of course he knew what she had chosen, everyone in the hospital knew. She basically had dibs on whoever she wanted to work with. Except perhaps, with him.
“Not celebrating, just adapting I guess. I’m sure you remember how daunting the future is. I’m worried about messing up all over again, even though I know I’m better than that.”
Of course he understood, he was maybe even amused that she still had the same thought pattern as she always did.
“I’m sure the changes are a lot easier this time around, no trial in your way. That has to count for something, right? You survived a lot more than most of your peers.”
“That was a different time. We all worked just as hard to get this far this time around.” She wasn’t sure why she suddenly sounded so defensive, but it bothered her how easily he presumed the past had prepared her for the future. Wasn’t she allowed to just be stressed and afraid?
“You’re right, you all put in the time and most of you put forward the dedication. I just know what you can do.”
Do you? There was a brief flicker, a passing moment, where her lips curled and if Ethan were normal, he would have been blushing. She could see it so clearly in his eyes, and if she hadn’t become a realist, she would have sworn nothing had changed. Just for a second.
“What brings you here then?”
He watched her carefully as she leaned back in the booth and crossed her arms, attempting to find some comfort. She didn’t know how to look, there was no hiding when he was sat so close to her.
“We lost a very young patient today, I needed somewhere to pull away for a few hours.” He was being honest without a push, it was almost unexpected.
“I’m sorry, we don’t have to talk about it. It never completely gets easier, does it?”
He gave a tight smile and shook his head, saying nothing for a moment. Finally, “You can’t mourn every single one, you couldn’t do your job if you did.”
“I know what you’re trying to say,” she took a breath and searched for the right words. “I think you have to acknowledge that losing each one can be hard though. It’s allowed to be hard, they had a story.”
“You always felt so deeply, Dr. Valentine. Sometimes it’s not your story to mourn.” He spoke of the subject like it was matter of fact, no hesitation in his hypothesis.
How many days since the last time Ethan Ramsey had frustrated her? It could have been a game in her head, once upon a time.
“Was I allowed to grieve you?” She held his gaze, unable to break through the veil of uncertainty that separated them from reality. Was it truly grief in his eyes as well, or was she staring into a reflection of her own pain?
“I don’t think you need an answer to that, my thoughts wouldn’t matter,” he tried, swallowing uncomfortably. Good. She wanted him to be just as uncomfortable with his pain as she was. It was exhausting to feel isolated by feelings that he pretended to not return.
“You never had any answers, I suppose that’s why we don’t talk anymore.” Someone had to say it, maybe not like that. But she couldn’t take it back.
Radio silence. But there was that look, the one that dared her to continue, as if he didn’t believe she would go a bit further. It was thrilling. She didn’t enjoy getting a rise out of him, but she didn’t forget how often she used to thrive on stretching his patience. It made her feel like an equal; he wasn’t allowed all of the power. Especially not then, after all of that time.
“Did you miss me? Or did you drink me away like the rest of them? I should have tried that, if it comes highly recommended by Ethan Ramsey.” She doubted he had come to the bar to be caged in a booth with the most emotion she had felt in two years. But he had approached her, after all.
If he was so brave, he could prove it. Or he could just leave.
“It was easier before you, I at least know that. Change is harder to adapt to the older you get. Sacrifices have a different weight and meaning.”  She wanted to challenge him in so many ways, but it felt unfair. As much as she wanted proof that she had mattered to him back then, she wouldn’t find satisfaction in making him suffer.
“I used to pray for change, I didn’t know the only change would be in my innocent optimism. A rite of passage, I suppose?”
He didn’t acknowledge what she had said, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. When he spoke he sounded a bit disconnected, as if he were remembering something.
“I was going to transfer, to dive into a newer part of my life. I won’t pretend you were the only reason, but of course I dreamt about what it meant.”
“We can’t speculate,” she lied, a softness reaching her voice that replaced her defensive nature. “Everything is uncertain, we’re doctors. We know that is a fact.”
“I would have married you,” he professed in a tone so removed from sensitivity that she almost didn’t comprehend what had been said. She could have sworn he would use the same voice to give a diagnosis or ask for charts.
Did those words really come from his mouth? Her whole body stilled, her heartbeat slowed down and her throat went dry.
“You couldn’t let yourself look at me too long while working in case anybody noticed. In the few times we were truly alone, you avoided talking about the future, especially not ours. Every part of our time together was calculated and your pride was always in the equation. You were going to go from that to marrying me?”
“Rookie, please.” She pressed her lips together and focused on the rise and fall of her chest until her mind began to clear. “I’m not asking you to believe me, and I’m not telling you to upset you either. But never ask me if I missed you, because your absence has haunted me longer than anything ever has.”
Her hands were rested on the table, shaking considerably not from anxiety or rage, but something unexplainable. It had been a long time since she had wanted to hear something along those lines from him. She had imagined similar scenarios in her head, confronting him and demanding him to admit he had loved her. Over time it had just become easier to convince herself that he hadn’t felt as strongly about her and vice versa.
Nothing was easy anymore, not even the truth from his own mouth.
“Why didn’t you stop me? I get it, in the beginning stages even I was fooled into believing I was doing the right thing for myself. After wanting you to be jealous, I just wanted some peace. But Ethan, it’s been two years, why didn’t you even try?”
“You have to know that’s not how real life works.” It was stated so gently and all she could do was nod. “I didn’t own you, I couldn’t ask you to continuously sacrifice the things you wanted to spend time with me.” His voice hardly wavered but for the first time, he didn’t look her in the eye when he spoke.
“I wanted you. I know you read what I sent you on your birthday, but you never responded. I begged you to give me a reason to make those sacrifices and all you did was give me a reason to lose faith in us.”
He reached out for her hand, and there was no recoil, she was only grateful for a hand to ground her. As it always did, her hand fit perfectly in his and she was already afraid of him letting go.
“I will never have the words to express how sorry I am. I saw how hard you fought for me. I thought I was waiting for the right time and instead we both suffered because of that.”
Had he known along that it was all she ever wanted to hear, perhaps their conversation would have gone differently. But she hadn’t known herself that one apology reminded her of why she had loved him so deeply.
“I made so many mistakes,” she whispered. She was trying to stay composed but once the tears began brimming in her eyes, she knew she didn’t have long until she broke down in public. “I’m sorry, Ethan. I have to go home.”
Valentine pulled her hand from his and pushed herself out of the booth. She left a few bills on the table to cover their drinks, Ethan’s as well. She looked down at Ethan and held her breath, trying to force a smile. It was no surprise that she failed miserably, especially because of the melancholy expression on his face. His day had been long enough, and she knew she had only made it harder.
“I don’t know what to say,” he said quietly, pressing his lips together in a frown that was once quite familiar.
Valentine shook her head, “Neither do I. Goodnight.”
And just as quickly as Jackie had left, she turned on her heel and walked out of the bar with a small facade of dignity. Don’t look back, and for once she took her own advice, stepping outside in the night without turning back.
“Fuck everything,” she cried out into the (almost) empty street, positive that she wasn’t the first person to yell that outside of the bar. She heard the doors open behind her and she stumbled forward to move out of the way. Her heel caught on the sidewalk and she began falling backwards.
Instead of falling straight onto her ass like she was bracing herself for, arms hooked under hers and held her up. She quickly fumbled for her footing and steadied herself. She knew it was him before she turned around, his distinct scent giving him away. She liked to think she knew the feeling of his body against her but she didn’t know anymore.
“Rookie,” he stated simply.
“I’m sorry, I’m not drunk, just disoriented.” It was the truth, and despite her embarrassment, she knew he would understand. He was the last person who was going to judge her, that was a certainty she didn’t question.
“Can we share a cab, so you get home safe?”
Her eyes searched his, then analyzed his body language to decipher his intentions. Was this offer out of pity for how she reacted inside, or for a few more moments of her company? She wasn’t sure if either made a difference, but she didn’t want to be pitied.
She had no excuses, so she nodded and watched him hail a cab that sat nearby. Ethan wordlessly opened the door for her and she slid into the middle of the backseat. When he got inside the car, they were both hyper aware of how close they sat. Space between their thighs, shoulders, and their hands did not exist. When she looked down to see him holding her hand she could not recall the exact second it was no longer empty.
Ethan had already given the address, there was no reason to speak. Valentine listened to the fraction of a second between when she inhaled and he exhaled. They had been running opposite for two years, and whatever beat that her heart hummed to was not quite familiar to her anymore. The way he made her feel wasn’t new, but it was different.
Perhaps more than she had ever felt, he seemed equally in tune with the moment. He released her hand and wrapped his arm around her, his hand resting against her waist. Valentine laid her head on his shoulder and breathed in shakily, holding her breath for a beat. When she breathed out, her entire body relaxed into his. This was a state of being that her body had ached for; peacefulness.
“I didn’t break you, did I?” She was surprised to hear the sound of her own voice, for once.
“You’d have to show me what breaking me means, Dr. Valentine.” She could hear the smile in his voice and it softened her concern.
“Only if you give me the time,” she replied in a low enough voice that the driver wouldn’t hear. His hand tightened around her waist and she snuggled closer into him. Who knew when the moment would end?
Valentine and Ethan both felt somewhat unlucky, but alas, after much time apart perhaps they could be unlucky together.
“I’m yours.”

15x15: Gimme Shelter
Alright guys! It’s time!
Just a heads up, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, these posts usually come out later in the day, because even if I watch it live, I tend to do my reactions live, but then write up the full review later. In case you were wondering why the posts don’t usually come right away.
Anyways! Let’s get down to it!
Oof. Yep. We’re definitely on the serious track now, with a then like this.
Also, I didn’t say this before, but I really love the “then” and “now” openings for this season. It’s beautiful with the Impala like that. <3
Oof. Interesting flashback to Jack breaking out of the Ma’lak Box.
...ew. Maybe it doesn’t taste as gross as it looks, but it looks gross.
Jesus girls, chill.
Okay, I already like the pastor.
I’m watching live this week, and I’m in a FB group that’s commenting as we watch, and someone just pointed out that the pastor is Dr. Sexy MD!! Man I love when actors return like that.
Ope. Connor’s gonna die. Poor kid. He seemed nice.
...that teddy bear definitely wasn’t there when he was walking over before, but okay.
UMMMMM...TALKING TEDDY!
NO THANK YOU!!!
I HAVE A DOLL THING!!! NOT COOL!!!
Hmmm...gotta be honest, I’m not sure how I’m feeling about Cohen’s directing on this one. :/
It had a talking teddy bear. I bet it is.
Darkness. Nice pun.
“He’s not that funny.” XD XD
Dean you just want to go to Atlantic City whether Amara’s there or not don’t even deny it. XD
Cas’s confused face will always be one of the cutest things ever. <3
I love the way they’re all walking down the hallway together. It’s such a simple thing, but I like the way they’re positioned and everything. Point: Matt Cohen.
SCENE FROM THE PROMO!
Sure they can.
“She and I used to have a thing” DEAN!! XD XD
HIIIII JACK!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Dude, let me tell you, I am so ready for some quality Cas and Jack content.
I love all the different reactions here. Dean is trying to get Cas and Jack out of the house, which Jack is super excited about, and Cas is very not into. XD
...wait, did they not tell him about Mrs. Butters? Or did they just not mention her name?
Cas looking at Sam like “help me out here” and Sam being like “sorry but no”. XD
Oh come on Cas. Look how excited Jack is! I love how enthusiastic he gets over every hunt. It’s adorable and I love him. (Yeah you’re gonna be hearing that a lot. XD)
Cas is like “you’re kidding me right?”
“Highway to Heaven” XD XD
THE SCENE!!
MY BABY IS SO EXCITED I LOVE HIS LITTLE SMILE AHHHH!!!!
No matter how Cas is against going to deal with something so small fry when they’re in the middle of something so huge, he will still smile affectionately at his son, because he loves him. <3 <3 <3
“Blue’s a good color on you.” XD XD <3 <3
“Agent Swift.” XD XD XD XD
“Agent Lovato.” I’M DEAD THESE TWO ARE THE BEST!!! XD XD XD XD
HE’S HOLDING HIS BADGE UPSIDE DOWN JUST LIKE CAS DID ON HIS FIRST HUNT I’M DEAD!! XD XD XD <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
A BABY YODA REFERENCE?! This show oh my god. XD XD XD
“I just graduated from CSI.” JACK OH MY GOD YOU ADORABLE LITTLE BEAN!!! XD XD <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Okay, I love watching Cas and Jack together, and I love watching them go on a hunt, but guys, could you at least TRY to be subtle? “Did you find tiny bags with chicken bones? Smell any sulfur? Feel cold?” Like, NO you two. XD XD
The cop lady is just like “what the heck is wrong with these two?”
Oh. “Liar” isn’t a seven deadly sin thing. Maybe I was wrong about that.
“For my stepson, Ronald.” JACK!! XD XD XD <3 <3 <3 I love him so much oh my god.
For someone who’s new to hunting, that was actually an awesome cover. <3 <3
Wait...speakers? Maybe it isn’t something supernatural after all?
“Almost demonic.” Okay so that was a little more subtle.
Okay Cohen, I take back what I said about your directing. That was a good shot of the stop sign.
I love the way Jack’s sitting in the back of the truck. <3 <3
Learning from Sam. <3 <3 <3
Cas, there is no such thing as too many cats. His face when he says that though. XD
THAT ENTIRE SEQUENCE ABOUT PARENT/GUARDIAN PERMISSION I’M DYING HOLY FRICK!!! XD XD XD XD <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
That was both the cutest and funniest thing ever and I just...I LOVE THEM AHHHH!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I feel like Cas is upset though. Like, he’s extra frustrated with the whole Amara and God thing. Not that I blame him of course. He’s just got a certain...coldness to him in this episode. But I like how it disappears whenever he’s talking to Jack. <3 <3 Good acting on Misha’s part.
For example, that little soft smile when he looks over at Jack logging in to the social media account is so sweet and so cute and so undeniably fatherly. <3 <3
Okay, gotta be honest: British demon? Totally hot.
"Why is he talking like that?” he whispers, very loudly in a way that the party he is speaking of can definitely hear him. XD XD <3 <3
“Because Zack has style.”
WAIT!!!
He’s not ACTUALLY British??!!
Oh my god that shouldn’t have made me laugh, but it TOTALLY did.
AND he made the “Highway to Heaven” reference just like Dean did!
I love this demon holy frick. XD XD
Cas’s and Jack’s confused expressions at his sudden change. XD
“I would watch that show.” XD XD
How this show manages to introduce a new character, however brief, and give him so much personality when we’re six episodes from the end is beyond my understanding, but man, it is one of the many reasons I love this show. <3
Ha! “Demons are get, humans are just crazy” ring a bell?
Ha! Of course Rowena has that philosophy. God I miss her.
“You’re a deviant soul corrupted by Hell.” Ah, Cas, ever quick with the logical wit. XD
Cas’s “and we’re done”. XD
Zack is so desperate.
And now, Zack is all of us during COVID. XD
I love Zack. Take him with you. XD <3
Oof. Too true, Cas. Too true.
Awww...Jack.
AWWW! Cas!!! Knowing his son wanted to be busy and help people. I LOVE THEM!!!
THOSE SMILES AT EACH OTHER OH MY GOD SO CUTE!!! <3 <3 <3
She’s gonna steal the money.
Yep. Classy lady. *eye roll*
Ope. And now she’s gonna die.
AHHHH!!
OKAY I TAKE THAT BACK!! BRING THE TEDDY BEAR BACK!! SCARY MASK IS WORSE!!!
My mom and I both screamed jesus christ.
“Focused.” Interesting phrasing, but okay.
I like the way this phone call is happening. The back and forth is cool, and I like their easy talk with each other.
Dean can’t just give straight advice. Ever. “Drink the Kool-Aid and sign up.” XD
Oof. Jesus.
Clearly Dean wasn’t talk about the Amara thing.
Wait, this was over a two-day timeline? Huh. Okay then.
Dean that doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect you stop.
“Messengers of God’s Destruction”.
No, but did any of us?
“Least this time it’s not you or me.” Yeah, yet.
That look Sam gives him means he had the same thought I did.
Okay sorry, I am super not religious, and the God speak makes me want to barf.
HA! JACK! XD
See, this is why you have to give straight advice, Dean. I know that’s hard for you, being your chaotic bi self and all, but angels tend to take things literally, bud. XD
Jack you dork. XD <3
Geez girl. Be nice.
Jack whispering again to try to be sneaky I love him. <3
So that’s a yes then.
Jesus. She’s a b***h. I don’t like her.
That little head nod OMG!! <3 <3
I LOVE THE CAS AND JACK TEAM UP THEY’RE SO CUTE!! <3 <3
Oh. That was a sweet hug.
My Mom: It’s him. It’s the pastor. He’s the bad guy.
Oh! Greed! So this is a seven deadly sins thing!
Ummm....that’s a little weird. Maybe this is as monster after all, with the tech working like that?
But if it was a monster, why is she set up like that?
Okay no, I take that back. I watch Criminal Minds, and this totally looks like something a serial killer would do. Especially the timer thing.
“The new guy’s hot.” MEEEEE. That girl is me. XD <3 <3 <3
EVERY. SINGLE. THING. JACK. DOES. IS. SO. STINKING. ADORABLE. <3 <3 <3 <3
Boyfriend and girlfriend, I’m guessing?
Awww...baby. :(
Awww...Jack. :( :(
Okay but, like, we’ve learned now, right? Don’t give her your whole story please and thank you.
Oh okay. That’s okay.
This girl is...off. Is it the acting, or is the character actually weird? I honestly can’t tell.
Oof. Daddy issues alert.
“I have more dads than most.” AWWW!!! XD XD XD <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Wait baby no, you’re not letting them down stop that. :( :( :(
Ew. “Put your trust in God, not people.” Now I hate her. Trust me honey, the last person Jack--or anybody, for that matter--should be putting his faith in is God.
Oh okay then.
Ha! I love Cas’s subtle little sass with the “faith-based community”.
Oh. A.V. and tech. TV screen. Bingo.
Yeah I don’t think it’s the pastor. He seems too innocent.
...except he’s definitely not getting any father-of-the-year awards. But what else is new with this show.
“It’s complicated.” What are you talking about?? Just say yes, Cas.
Awww...soft side of Cas. <3
Yeah no. It’s not the pastor. There’s no way. It must be that Brother Rudy dude.
Ha! Awkward. XD
That’s actually really nice. I like that idea, having a church community (sorry--faith-based community) helping other people like that. It’s sweet.
Oh. Connor was gay. That honestly totally makes sense. Poor guy. :(
I’m glad the pastor was accepting of him though! <3 <3
Awww...that’s a good line. “A saint is a sinner who keeps trying.”
I really hope it’s not the pastor. I like him.
My Mom: Wait, have we just never seen them put gas in the car before? I had no idea it was behind the license plate!
I’m thinking back and I didn’t know that either, so this must be the first time we’ve actually seen them, like, open it, and that’s HILARIOUS to me. XD
OOOOH WAIT!! This is where they see Amara, according to the promo photos!!
Oh heeeey girl.
Wow she looks really pretty with that snow in her hair.
She...she...smelled them?
“You have a very distinctive musk.” “Thank you.” ARE THESE TWO STILL PINING FOR EACH OTHER? XD XD XD
I like this Amara. She’s fun.
My family and I always make kielbasa with our pierogis (I had no idea that that was how that was spelled, btw), so pierogis without the kielbasa feels wrong. XD
Jensen’s facial expressions say so much all the time and I love it. XD
Oh boy.
NOOOOOO!
WHAT IS IT WITH SUPERNATURAL AND FINGERS ON THIS SHOW JESUS!!
Okay, WHO is the timer for?? Like, is it just some form of slow torture?? Because it’s not like it’s being shown to anyone other than her.
Ooh. I like that he’s listing off all of the different names for God. Good pastor. Please don’t be a bad guy.
HIS FAMOUS “hello” OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUUUUUUUUCH!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
...oof. Ummm....
Awww.... Poor baby. :( :( :(
AWWW!! Dad Cas to the rescue!! <3 <3 <3
Jack looking at his dad omg. <3 <3
I already like this speech from Cas. I can tell it’s gonna be good.
“I guess I found a family.” <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
JACK’S LITTLE SMILE!!!
“And I became a father.” THERE IT IS!!! THERE. IT. IS!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
THE WAY JACK LOOKS AT HIM AFTER HE SAYS THAT AHHHH!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
AWWWW!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
GOOD SPEECH CAS!!! GOOD SPEECH!!! WAY TO MAKE YOUR SON FEEL BETTER!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
Awww...I really like this pastor. <3
FRIIIICK.
Oh sh**. There’s the time for everyone else.
JESUS!!!
Yeah okay. This is 100% a human being’s doing. A monster wouldn’t bother.
Jack running over to turn it off right away. Ever the hero. <3 <3
The pastor seemed too surprised to have done it, which, for me, puts pastor in the clear. Thank goodness.
True, but also he sucks, so help us out Amara.
Okay, I’m sorry, but quick side note. Everyone keeps saying he’s “very nearly done”, but when Dean looked in the telescope, he didn’t see anything. I thought that meant he was done. Unless it only reaches so far? I guess it probably only reaches so far in terms of other dimensions.
Sure there is.
“Our pal Jack.” That’s such a weird thing to hear him say, but okay. XD
Also I’m not sure how I feel about them telling Amara about Jack. Like, I like her, and I feel like she’s gonna help, but what if she doesn’t? She could, whether intentionally or unintentionally, wind up seeing Chuck and mentioning Jack to him, and if she does, that ruins the whole plan. But, on the other hand, I guess they have to earn her trust, and keeping details from her would definitely make that harder. But I still don’t like it. It puts my baby in danger. Again. But anyways.
Oh. Just like that?
“I get he’s your brother” Dean says oh so casually, as if he hasn’t literally moved heaven and hell to protect and save his own brother.
“Squirrely weirdo” XD XD
Oh. The Big Bang. New theory. I like it. XD
Sure he can.
Ummm...yeah, Amara. You’re a fool. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Maybe he cares about you a little, but definitely not as much as you’re giving him credit for. Not right now anyways.
Wait...she actually said no? No way. I thought they were gonna be able to convince her. Guess my initial theory was wrong... What does that mean though? Like...what now?
Jack’s gonna come slamming through that door, according to the promo.
Called it!
Wait...why did Jack slam through it while Cas is just...casually standing there? You’re an angel, Castiel. XD
“Lust” It is based on “Seven”! I love it!
Welp...guess it’s not him.
Wait, so we are walking away with a no? That never happens to us!
THERE we go. Go get her Dean.
Is it just me, or has Sam been, like, really not involved this episode?? Jared’s had, like, six lines. XD
OH! Okay, the “then” makes sense now.
Oof. You tell her, Dean.
That she sucks. That’s what she wanted. Because she does.
Wait NO WAY! That’s what I said! Kind of, anyways.
Woooow. That’s actually pretty messed up, Amara. But it makes sense for why Mary was such a terrible character and why I hated her so much. She is only human. A sucky human, too.
Is it, though?
“That you could finally start to accept your life.” Okay, that’s actually kind of cool, and that’s awesome on the writers’ part for adding in that explanation of why everything went the way it did. Nice.
But also, that’s pretty messed up Amara.
Oooh. We’re about to get some awesome Jensen acting, aren’t we?
Jensen’s trying not to cry face is so incredible wow.
Awww....poor Dean.
Jesus Amara. A little sympathy?
OOF. I love that quiet fury that Dean has.
OOH! He got her!
YES DEAN!!! TELL HER!
“Well now who’s living in a dreamworld?” ...ouch. But true.
...oh boy. That was a bold-faced lie. But so brilliantly told, Dean.
After ALL THAT, you’re going to THINK ABOUT IT? Really??!!
But hey! I KNEW IT!! BEAUTIIFUL acting moment on Jensen’s part!! AWESOME scene. <3 <3 <3 <3
Oh! It’s the girl. I’m calling it.
Yep. Daughter.
I KNEW SHE WAS BEING WEIRD!
See?! Super religious people are crazy!!
Go Cas and Jack go!
Ope. Cas is gonna heal, and Jack is gonna attack. Go boys go!
Cas is gonna heal in front of all those people oof.
Girl has ISSUES.
Wow, this girl is WAAAAY too religious. Chill.
Yeah, cause you need help.
HEY!!! NOT COOL SYLVIA!!!
Oof. Yeah nice try, but that’s not gonna work.
I love how Jack just takes it and then heals all bada** like “yeah sorry but no”, but then he still looks up with the kindest and most innocent expression and I love it. <3
Meanwhile Cas is like “yeah I’m not having any of this.” XD XD
Does...does he always have to say sleep when he does it? Cause he didn’t used to, and for some reason, that was hilarious. XD
Jack’s little nod. So cute. <3 <3
Fixed her fingers, but couldn’t wash the blood off. XD
Yeah ummm...how you gonna explain that one, Cas?
At least pastor dude seems nice. And, like, being the good kind of religious, he’ll probably be totally cool with the angel thing.
Wait, pastor dude is still processing this when morning hits? Okay then.
“Not a very good one.” WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! You are literally the BEST angel, thank you very much.
Man that girl is MESSED UP.
And Jack still feels sorry for her, my baby. :( <3 <3
Ah. Nothing like your daughter becoming a murderer for you to finally step into a proper role of fatherhood.
WAIT A SECOND! IT’S ZACK!!
Dude waaait. What does that mean?? That’s, like, a really random thing. Does that mean she’s gonna come back? Or that Zack is gonna come back? I’m not sure what that means. That seems so random! I DEMAND ANSWERS SUPERNATURAL!
The way Cas looks at Jack after the pastor says that about looking after her better. Cas I don’t know what you’re thinking, but you’re the best father Jack could’ve asked for, okay?
Awww! Cas and Jack talk time!! <3 <3
Cas is trying so hard to help him I love him. <3
NO YOU DON’T STOP!! THIS IS WHAT FAMILY IS FOR!! WHHHHYYY are all you Winchesters like this.
Wait. WAIT! He was hiding something?! I hate it when Sam’s right.
Wait WHAT?!
HOLD ON!!!
NOOOOO NO NO NO NO NO!!! NO! JACK NO!!! That is NOT ALLOWED!!!
HOLD ON A SECOND!!! NO!!! THAT IS NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING WTF??!!!
Wait wait wait. A bomb?? Like, just like S11?? Because no. No no no. We’re not doing this again. JACK YOU ARE NOT GONNA DIE WTF??!!

WE JUST GOT YOU BACK!!! WE CAN’T LOSE YOU AGAIN!!! :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(
Cas’s face is all of my emotional screeching right now.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN “Don’t tell Sam and Dean.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME JACK??!! THESE ARE YOUR DADS!! THEY NEED TO KNOW!!! YOU CAN’T DO THIS!!! CAS WON’T LET YOU!!!
JACK NOOOO!!! STOP IT WITH ALL OF YOUR GUILT! GOD you’re such a Winchester!! NO!! DEAN BAKED YOU A DANG BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! YOU DON’T NEED TO DIE FOR HIM TO FORGIVE YOU!!!
I’M HAVING SUCH A HARD TIME TYPING RIGHT NOW WTF IS THIS SCENE??!! :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(
Me too, Cas!!!
SEE JACK??!! YOU CAN’T!!
NO! WHAT IS THAT?!
NO!! STOP IT!!! STOP IT YOU STUPID IDIOT NO!!! YOU CANNOT SACRIFICE YOURSELF LIKE THIS!!! THEY WON’T LET YOU!!!
Cas tell Sam and Dean. Please.
Oh WAIT! We have, like, two minutes left craaap. This is the scene from the promo. Cas is gonna say Sam and Dean need to know something and then it’s gonna end. I’m calling it right now.
YES CAS!! GO CAS GO!! SAVE YOUR SON!!!
Yep. Here it is. It’s gonna cut off.
GODDA**IT!! I HATE IT WHEN I’M RIGHT!!!
WHY YOU GOTTA DO ME LIKE THAT SUPERNATURAL??!! You can’t just...DROP A BOMB like that and then NOT RESOLVE IT GOD DA**IT!! SCREW YOU WRITERS!!!
AHHHHH!!! I NEED NEXT WEEK RIGHT NOW!!! AHHHHH!!! THIS IS SO NOT OKAY!!!!
If I deny it ever happened, then it didn’t happen, right? Jack and Cas solved the case, Sam and Dean got Amara’s help, and they all went home and had family dinner, okay? New ending. There we go. Problem solved. Because NO!
Well...f**k. I guess its review time?? But JESUS CHRIST!!! Okay, okay, I need a minute. Please hold.
(Several Hours Later)
Okay. I’m back. Let me start with something kind of amusing. Several minutes after the episode ended, while I was still trying to process everything, this interaction happened:
Me, breathing heavily and dying inside: Mom, you do not seem as distressed about this as I am.
My Mom: I am never as distressed as you are about anything in this show. It’s impossible for me to reach that level of distress. I don’t know how you do it.
So...if you didn’t already realize how emotionally connected to this show I am, now you do. XD
That said, let’s get down to it.
God, there is soooo much to unpack with that episode, and even crazier, it honestly all comes from that last five minutes. Let me start with this:
I really enjoyed this episode! It can’t quite beat last week’s episode--but, honestly, I don’t know if any of the other episodes will be able to, except for maybe the finale--but it was good! I had a few qualms about Matt Cohen’s directing, but he definitely had some strong moments, so it wasn’t bad. And, admittedly, at first, I felt like the pacing of the episode was kind of slow, and switching back and forth between the Winchesters and Cas and Jack felt kind of choppy for a bit, but as the episode played out, I realized why. This was a full-on set-up episode. While last week gave us a chance to be silly with the boys and see some beautiful family bonding, this was the one that set us up for what’s sure to be heavy and plot-filled coming up. (And yes, I know next week’s episode is much more of a monster-of-the-week, but 15x17 is when things will likely really get down to it, so I’m sure there’ll still be some important plot stuff next week--especially since we need a resolution to the Cas and Dean talk). Between the boys having to find and trick Amara, and Cas and Jack bonding and working with each other again, plus that big reveal at the end, it’s setting up the next string of episodes to be fast-paced and intense as they finally start to take on God.
With that said, I really loved being able to see Jack and Cas together again. It’s been so long since we’ve seen them really spend time together and bond, and watching them play off each other and be father and son was adorable and hilarious. Plus, I just love Jack with every fiber of my being, so that makes everything better. XD <3
I also really loved Dean’s interactions with Amara. I mentioned this already, but that scene, where he’s talking about Mary...that was some INCREDIBLE acting on Jensen’s part. He’s always been really good at that subtle rage, especially when it’s also filled with sadness, and this scene was no different. And I’m glad that they did finally get Amara on board; however, I’m a little concerned with what she’s going to do when she finds out he lied. Especially after how worried she seemed to be. AND SPEAKING OF LYING!!
THOSE LAST FIVE MINUTES! HOLY SHIT!!
Okay, so I’ve had some time to think about this and talk it out with some people, so I’m just gonna roll with the thoughts as they go through my brain. First of all, that is a big no a thousand times over. Jack, you cannot die. Second of all, that reveal was very well done on the writer’s part. After such a nonchalant episode--in terms of pace, that is--to have that in the last five minutes, AND to end with that cliffhanger, was a beautiful way to keep us fans guessing, invested, and wanting more. But also, SCREW YOU!
That said, as freaked out as I was--and honestly, I’m still pretty worried--I really don’t think Jack’s going to die. There’s no way. Initially, my theory left Cas and Jack standing at the end of all of this. After CW said that thing about one of the main characters not surviving to the end, I thought it was gonna be Dean, but I can also see how it could be both Sam and Dean. However, in any case, Cas and Jack, in my various theories, always end up on top. So Jack saying he’s going to die in order to kill Chuck and Amara TOTALLY threw me. BUT! After talking it through with someone else, I seriously doubt it’s going to happen.
First of all, Cas is about to go look for another way, and, as we’ve seen in the past, they always find another way. After all, this is the Winchesters (and yes, Cas counts, obviously).
Second of all, they’re telling us this five episodes before the end, but Jack is, supposedly, completing his final ritual in 15x17. That leaves three episodes of unaccounted time, and if Jack is really going to die to kill Chuck and Amara, there’s no way they can stretch that over three episodes. Therefore, his dads are bound to stop it. To FURTHER that, 15x17 has Jack and Dean heading out together to complete Jack’s final ritual while Sam and Cas stay behind, which means that, once Jack does whatever he’s supposed to do, Dean is bound to find out what Billie’s true intentions are, and I’m convinced that he’s not going to be okay with it. Because here’s the thing. Between Sam and Dean, Jack is the one that Dean still needs the most forgiveness from. And, kind of like what happened in Last Holiday, the second Dean realizes Jack is in actual danger, he’s not going to let anything happen to him. And I’m hoping that the resulting protectiveness will give Dean the chance to tell Jack that he does forgive him, which will hopefully release some of Jack’s guilt complex and give them the ability to find another way.
THIRD of all, (and I mentioned this in my reactions), this whole “becoming the bomb to kill the cosmic entities” is an exact mirror of what Dean tried to do in S11, and we saw how that went. But the thing is, why would the writers play the exact same storyline again unless they were intending to parallel it and connect it to Jack and Dean’s relationship now? When Dean didn’t detonate in S11, he got his mom back, but then Jack killed her. Now, Jack is ready to detonate himself as a bomb because of having killed Mary, and Dean’s bound to stop him, especially after that conversation with Amara. Maybe this is all wishful thinking, but I really, sincerely feel like (and hope) that Jack isn’t going to make that sacrifice. Because, on top of all of that, while I love the family that is Team Free Will 2.0, this show still is, as it always has been, about Sam and Dean, and, as such, it should end with them too. So the odds of Jack being the “be all end all” without Sam and Dean’s help? Super slim.
So, to sum that up, as worried as I am about my baby, I really really really think (and god I hope I’m right) that that’s not the way this story will end. There has to be more to it.
With all of that addressed, let’s talk about WHATEVER it is that Cas is about to tell Dean. For me, there are two things it could be:
First, there’s the obvious answer based on the episode itself. Cas is about to tell Dean that Jack has to die in order to kill Chuck and Amara. However, I don’t think that’s it, because that seems too easy and unrealistic. If Cas tells Dean that now, then why would Dean take him to do his final ritual in 15x17 (I guess this is what happens when you read too much promotional material lol)? And even if he does, the next episode seems to be very Sam and Dean centric, and Cas dropping a bomb like that would not allow for a Sam and Dean centric episode, at least not when it’s putting their whole big mission in a different light. Plus, on top of all of that, that Cas and Jack conversation is an exact parallel of the conversation the two of them had about Cas making his deal with the Empty back in Season 14. Cas told Jack not to tell Sam and Dean, and Jack never did, even though his life is at risk. So Cas telling Sam and Dean about Jack now, knowing that Jack kept that secret for him, might break a certain level of trust between the two of them, and I don’t think Cas would do that. Which brings me to my second and, in my opinion, more likely theory.
Cas is about to tell Dean about his deal with the Empty. While this would also be a huge bomb to drop in the middle of this big fight, and in the middle of all this chaos, it technically doesn’t directly correlate with their fight with Chuck. However, if something does happen to Cas, that’s something that Sam and Dean do need to know, because it’ll affect how they handle things and what they do, in a lot of ways. At the same time, I feel like, if Cas is gonna do a whole “go it alone” thing, it’s important that he tells them before he leaves, because there’s no telling what could happen, to any of them, when they’re not all together, and being as open as possible before separating like that tends to be a good idea. It seems like Cas might finally be learning.
That said, I could be wrong all around. It could be neither of those things. It could be both of those things. Honestly, there’s no way to know for sure until we get to next week. However, after a crazy ending like that, I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Supernatural has in store for us next.

2: On Consumerism, Fighting Demons, and Societies Inevitable Collapse
Quarantine has been lowkey surreal. My constant complaint of never having enough time to do all the things I want/should be doing has now left me bored in the house, bored in the house, bored with nothing but time to get said things done. However, it is a dual edged sword - with the collapse and subsequent reformation of civil society outside my doors, it leaves me wondering – as well as a lot of other people – in the words of Miss Juicy…what the hell we gone do now?
Nearing the end of the first leg of my university career, I should be thinking about getting ready to transition to the next logical stages of adulthood - saving for an apartment, applying for permanent residency, as well as graduate schools and part time jobs. Yet, I’m worried about if these things will even be a possibility within the next month, six months, or even the next year.
On top of ALL of that, the recent BLM protests and the way that people (read: white people, Latinxs, Black men, homo/transphobes, etc.) have shown their asses the past few months is beyond mortifying - especially regarding the treatment of black women and how our value as individuals as well as a collective to society is really perceived.* This is not to downplay the murder of numerous black men in society, BUT who the fuck is riding for black women aside from other black women? And not just the ones who find attractive, or are racially ambiguous, or the ones you feel as if you get “guilted” into supporting and demanding justice for, I mean each and every black woman. I’m just saying, it gets pretty disheartening to feel like the legwork of the revolution is on the back of one category of people, and that your value to society is measured by the amount of emotional labour you’re ready to do for others, or how fat your ass is (but I digress…).
I feel like most people have used material things as coping mechanisms instead of actually facing their feelings and dealing with the things that bother them. Just think of the number of packages that have arrived on your doorstep the past few months. Breaking the glossy seal of packing tape is similar to therapy, until all the boxes are open, and you start feeling like shit again. And now, more than ever, there’s a lot to be bothered about. Western society has dedicated phrases based on the phenomenon of substituting true self-work with figurative emotional bandages (Phrases like comfort eating and retail therapy come to mind).
It’s nice to think that we – the people entering their adolescent and young adult years – will be the one to change these things, but suddenly it’s 2 am, you have twenty different things in your Amazon cart, (who the fuck needs a metal straw cleaning kit?) and you’re trying to see how far you can stretch and grab your debit card before falling off of the bed.
The conflicting messages pushed by society don’t help all that much either. If you look up “Kondo method” or “decluttering my closet” on YouTube, the numbers of videos that come up is astounding. Pages and pages of sweaty-faced, smiling YouTubers monetizing from this kind of faux “minimalism” only to post haul videos a few days later because “I threw everything out and now I have to rebuild from scratch sksksk!”. Does this not just perpetuate a cycle of buying and throwing and buying? I am....confusion, to say the least. Still I watch them, because I’m a hypocrite, and am also easily amused.
I will be the first to admit I have always had a very unhealthy relationship with money, with self-image, and with measuring my self-worth in proximity with “stuff that stems from a complicated relationship with physical self. Follow along:
Growing up, I was a fat kid. We don’t even have to sugar coat it. Think Terrio, but better eyebrows and more hair. Except I was not killin’ em, just myself. I always envied my friends who were able to go shopping at regular stores – read: Hollister, Abercrombie, Urban Outfitters (yes my friends were white), meanwhile I was condemned to shopping in the women’s department.
So, to compensate, I would buy trinkets – things like nail polish, lip gloss, journals, you get the point. My proximity to worthiness was measured not by the things that I bought, but within the act of buying. Growing up with parents who were also financially frugal also altered my relationship with money and blessed me with crippling buyers’ remorse after every purchase, even on things that are important (read: groceries).
But as a kid, buying “stuff” was fun for me – it gave me some sort of purpose, and the acquisition of things (even if they weren’t the same things my peers had) made me feel like, to some extent, I could compete on the same playing field. As I got older, and I started to have real expenses, I moved towards second-hand shopping. I would religiously find myself at Goodwill on weekend, after school, or with friends. I could literally feel an endorphin rush when I would find something that I would consider a “good deal”, and it made me feel (again) purposeful, to be spending money, even if I didn’t need whatever I was buying.
I should also add that the people in my immediate family does not believe in thrift stores (“Why am I working for you to wear other people’s clothing?”, I remember my dad asking me one day), so the act of second-hand shopping was also my form of rebellion.
I began to amass a collection of clothing that would put Kylie’s closet to shame. I began buying things for events and situations that were yet to happen, for other people, for when I lose ten pounds. It was a madness.
In freshman year of university, I had an unhealthy relationship with clubbing clothes. Did I have the figure for clubbing clothes? Absolutely not. The funnier part is, I couldn’t even go clubbing because I wasn’t 19 at the time. And yet I had drawers and drawers full of the stuff. Not to mention that clubbing clothes is incredibly similar to summer clothing and living between Minnesota and Canada meant that these things were barely seeing the light of day.
The moral of this was – I could never figure out my relationship with stuff, This quarantine has forced me to try and break down the compulsion behind my behaviour.  I felt like I was spiralling the six weeks that they closed thrift stores, and I knew myself well enough to not try and online shop with the same kind of frequency as that. But the crazy part was, I didn’t die. I didn’t go into withdrawal (ok, I did a little bit, but whatever), and I was able to take the time to go through the things I already owned and find some hidden gems that were routinely buried in the cracks and crevices of my closet. It was like the episode of Family Guy when Peter realizes he has a vestigial twin – alarming and cool at first, but then it’s just alarming and annoying.
Its more embarrassing to realize that some semblance of myself image is tied to the frequency with which I am able to spend money. I would never say that participating in capitalist society gives me some kind of purpose as a black woman because God forbid. Also, considering that a lot of big names companies are actually racist and fatphobic as hell creates a whole new dimension for analyzing the power of my black dollar, sometimes creating another spiral of guilt leading to you guessed it – more spending.
As much as it seems like it, however, this self-reflection was not in vain. In the past month, I’ve cut down my closet from +200 pieces of clothing and shoes to about 40. If you ever want a fun, humbling activity this quarantine, just clean out your closet and be honest with yourself about how often you wear certain things. It was revolting to see the number of shirts, dresses, pants, skirts that I had bought and convinced myself wholeheartedly I was going to wear, only to pull them out of my closet months later with the tags attached *insert Marge Simpson covering her face meme*.
But at the end of the whole ordeal, it felt really good to look at my space and not feel burden or guilt. It was somewhat philanthropic realizing that not only will these clothes make someone else happier (I donated pretty much everything because it’s not always about money), but that my quality of life was not dramatically impacted in owning (or not owning) certain things. The past few weeks, I’ve spent more money on going out and sharing experiences with friends, but still nowhere near the same amount of money I would have spent buying clothes and other material possession.
Youtuber Kelly Stamps has a video on how minimalism “cured” her depression**, and the whole thesis boils down to the idea that owning less things gives you less to compare yourself too, thus making you happier (in a sense) and allowing you to focus the energy and time that would have been centered around maintaining and building your collection of possessions other things.
This still doesn’t break down the root of the issue, but it’s a start. I think when you have traits or patterns that you’ve participated in for so long, it becomes hard to step back and be objective enough to realize that you – yes, you – are part of the problem. I can blame my habits on a lot of things but at the end of the day, it’s important to realize that certain cycles seem never-ending because I actively choose to participate in these kinds of behaviours (accountability is sexy, huh?). While I’m not ready to face all my demons quite yet, it’s easier to do it with a nice wardrobe and a streamlined sense of mind.

*When I say black women, I mean ALL black women. Not some limited, cis-gendered, heteronormative view of what a woman is. Over here we ride for all those who identify as women.
**She emphasizes that she doesn’t actually means that it cured anything, but rather helped with her anxiety, and in turn, helped with her depression.
